IE9 stops working on Windows 7 in user mode but works as Run as administrator

Question: IE9 stops working on Windows 7 in user mode but works as Run as administrator

Hi all. IE9 works on my Windows 7 laptop but only in Run as an administrator. When I run it under user mode, it stops working. Went to Microsoft help reset it back to default settings still problem exists. Any ideas anyone has in our IT community? Thanks

Preferred Solution: IE9 stops working on Windows 7 in user mode but works as Run as administrator

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: IE9 stops working on Windows 7 in user mode but works as Run as administrator

Hello there,
I really need help on this one. When I switched on my laptop ( Hp windows 7) , it started as usual and it screened the message " starting windows" as usual , after starting I was expecting the log on screen to come. But there it was, just a black screen while the standard windows tune was heard, there was NO log on screen. It was just black.
Then I went into safe mode with networking. And that's all how it works now.
Please I would be really greatful if you could help me out.
So basically the laptop is functioning all fine in safe mode but wouldn't go further the " starting windows" message in normal mode.
Please Please help

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista Ultimate.
My problem is that when I Log In to the Administrator Mode I start seeing many errors pop up.
List of errors:
“Catalyst Contol Centre: Host application has stopped working”
“Input Personalization Server has stopped working.”
“Unable to create Temporary folder. Error5-Access is denied.”
Windows Explorer doesn’t work
In addition to this I can’t get into some applications and they sometimes get errors. I can however get into Internet Exployer but not Firefox. The strange thing is that when I Switch Users and Log into the non administator mode everything works fine. I realized all this was happening when I was trouble shooting a bug in the Adobe software with Adobe technical support. I turns out I can’t fix the Adobe problem until I fix this or so they say.

When sniffing around my system in "Credential Manager", I found an unknown set of credentials known as "virtualapp/didlogical" which after a vague research, I deleted. CHECK THIS OUT...

Attachment 62236

After I deleted it, I finished my work and shut down my machine. A few hours later I went to login to my laptop using the same login credentials i've used since system setup....I COULDN'T LOGIN!!

After a tiny shart, I had the wherewithall to google "lost Win 8 passward" and found to reset my password. During login I was able to click on the wifi icon (bottom left) and connect to the internet and presumably my computer updated my new password via Microsoft's Server, and I logged in with the new password.

This. Is. Baffling.

And whats weirder...Once I fired up my computer and went to Credentials Manager again, the mysterious "virtualapp/didlogical" was back.

1. Why is my personal login connected to this weird "domain-like" service? My PW should be stored on my local machine NOT a Microsoft Server. This isn't a corporate environment where my personal login password is supposed to somehow be corporate knowledge.

2. How did this mysterious credential get recreated without my consent!!

I never had this issue until I used the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I am the only user of my PC. I work with Microsoft Office 2007. When I open Microsoft Word, Excel or any other program in the suite I have no problem... not until I try to
save the file I'm working on. For example I open up Microsoft Word and work on a file. I go to save it and I get:

You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission.
Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?
It was the documents folder that I was trying to save it in, in the first place.
I can open up any of the Microsoft Office programs by right clicking, and opening the drop down menu, and scrolling down to  "Run as administrator".
I want to be able to open the program without right clicking (to Run as Administrator) to save whatever I'm working on. I never had to specify before the upgrade. I forget to right click on that, for the drop down menu, than I'm stuck trying to
figure out another way to do it without losing all my work.
How can I make this right without downgrading back to Windows 7? The only thing I haven't liked about the free upgrade is the administrator rights issues.
Thank you!

I'm using the trial version of Win 7 Enterprise and run in user mode.

When I installed Google Chrome, I was expecting a prompt requesting my admin ID password. This did not happen and Chrome just installed itself. The same was seen when I installed the Picnik extension for Chrome.

However, when I installed Flash 10.x, I was prompted for my admin password.

I'm just wondering if someone might know why I didn't get the admin password prompt for Chrome? It concerns me because I wonder what else could be installed while running in user mode.

Thank you

Answer:Running in User Mode vs Administrator Mode

Administrative password is required for programs etc, that can effect the perfomance of the computer. Chrome a browser, just affects the one user. Quite a difference.
Delete that one account Chrome is history.

I am using Windows XP home edition with SP3. It was working normally. I used to get a popup "Windows cannot find "syssetup.exe"....When i opened yesterday morning I found it taking longer and never go to the desktop after giving the username and password. It stops at Welcome screen with a msg "Loading your personal settings" and no more response. I followed below steps to trouble shoot the issue.

1.I have tried opening in both "safemode" and "safemode with networking", found its working fine. I ran "msconfig" in safemode and unchecked some unwanted applications(nothing related to windows process) and tried again opening in normal mode.... Not worked

2. My internet works normally in safemode. Found some virus by running antivirus in safemode and cleared all the viruses.

It would be really appreciable if any one could solve my issue..

Answer:XP home stops loading at Welcome Screen in normal mode, but working fine in Safe mode

try using system restore in safe might help...or try selecting the last known good config that worked...if still not work...try repairing it with you windows xp bootable cd..

My friend inputs his Windows login password successfully, but cant input anything from the keyboard after that. He has already tried going into the Device Manager, deleting the keyboard and rebooting so the drivers are reinstalled. Hes also tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards with the same result. He is running the XP with the latest updates and as well as up-to-date antivirus and antispyware. The OnScreen Keyboard works ok. Also (maybe unrelated), he a few days after the keyboard problem popped up, he started getting this diagnostic: `Microsoft Office Outlook - Error in registry for extension "exchange extensions?" The syntax or format of the registry entry is incorrect. Check the registry settings to compare the registry for this extension to other extensions in the registry.` I'm thinking this is unrelated. What can he do about the keyboard problem?

Thanks in advance!

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 running Windows XP SP3.

I had been using a TrendNet Ethernet wireless adapter and was having problems. I thought it had to do with the Ethernet port on the PC, so I just got a USB Wireless adapter figuring that would work better. Unfortunately the same thing is happening.

The internet connection will work for some period of time (after a reboot). Then in a matter of several minutes, it stops working. The wireless status looks fine (shows connected with a very good signal). However, when I try to go to a website in both IE and Firefox, it just hangs, waiting..... I try to disable/enable/repair the wireless local connection but that does not work. I have to reboot the PC to get it to work again.

Now, several months ago I did have to reinstall XP on the PC and am wondering if the driver installation was screwed up. Unfortunately we had spotty internet before the reinstall so I can't specifically tie the problem to the reinstall.

Also, I tried to reset the TCP/IP information and Winsock and uninstall IPv6 (as per other threads I saw on this forum) - still does the same thing.

Note that all other wireless devices have no issues (laptop, Droid, Wii, TiVo, etc.), so it's something with this PC. I have a Netgear router (supporting n and g). And I'd used the TrendNet adapter on another laptop with no issues.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

My Laptop has been known for having wireless internet problems for a while. Just today while I was at my public library, my internet kept on disconnecting after being connected for about 2-3 minutes.

After about an Hour of 'raging', I realized that after restarting my wifi driver (disable, and then reenable), then it would work again....until it stopped...

Is there some solution to this is is this an issue with my driver?

My wifi driver is [Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN]

Please help me!

Answer:Wifi works, and later stops working

It could be one of 2 things yout router (might be a problem with the 5100 AGN and its drivers) or
It was the power management settings causing the problems.

* Go to computer and right click it. Click on manage.
* Go to Device Manager
* Click on network adapters
* Right click your Wifi Link 5100 AGN, then properties and go to power management. Make sure the
(allow the computer to turn off this device to save power) is turned off.
- Go to your ethernet NIC, right click it and do the same.

P.S. An external USB wireless device will solve the problem...

My internet connection dials just fine and works for about 5 minutes and then stops working. It's not a problem specifically with internet explorer because AIM and downloading also don't work. When I try to go to webpages it will start to load them and the searches for them under .net .org etc... and then brings up the "cannot load page". Does anyone have any idea how to fix this???

Answer:Internet works perfectly for about 5 mins then stops working

This could be so many things but to start if you are on dialup you could have a bad connection. Can you bring pc to someone elses house and try from there. Could also be your Modem.

Hi all

My browser (IE, Firefox, Opera) stops working after about 5 minutes and displays the error can't find web page (although I can ping web addresses). When I start my system up in Safe Mode it works like it should do. I've tried multiple methods of trying to resolve this but desperately need some help.

Solutions tried so far ....

- Checking for malware and viruses - none found
- Installing the winsoc fix
- Turning firewall and anti-virus off

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Best regards

Answer:Browser stops working after a few minutes but works when I boot it up again

Welcome to TSG;
You do not have this problem when you boot in safe mode with networking.Correct ?
If so,that would seem to indicate a task running in normal mode not enabled in safe mode.
This will be tedious, but might give you a clue about what task that may be.

Listing running tasks in safe and normal mode.

Open a command prompt in normal mode and type the following command.

tasklist >c:\nortasks.txt
Do it again in safe mode with networking and use this command.

tasklist >c:\saftasks.txt

This will give you two text files in the root of C: that list the tasks running in each mode. Compare the lists and see what unique processes are running in normal mode.

Don't know how else to start on this problem.

No matter what video, game, program I am using, for some reason sound does not stay on. I will get 4-5 minutes of audio before it just stops working. The video keeps playing. I first checked to see if the mute button kicked on by itself - it didnt. I plugged in my headphones to see if that was part of the issue - it wasnt. Rebooted my laptop, reloaded several different videos and got the same thing. less then 5 minutes and then audio just shuts off. Went to Control panel and everything is as it should be. Beyond frustrated as I have online lectures I need to hear, but am only getting it in bits and pieces after I reboot. And yes - after every reboot i get audio for 5 minutes or less. 0.o Puzzled! I have a computer connected with the router, and several mobile devices and a laptop which connect to the router on and off. Occasionally (and very annoyingly) all devices connected to the wifi are unable to connect to the wifi even if they are in range, all devices at the same time are unable to connect to the wifi. This will last for hours until somebody goes and restarts the router, and during this dry spell the computer connected through LAN with the router works just fine.

The router i'm talking about is "N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router"
or can be found at this link:

My laptop and computer both are win 8.1, the other devices include android and ios.

So it just happens 100% random out of no where and I get this error:

(note i ripped this image off google but this is the exact thing that happens)
so I found TWO temporary fixes.

One: unplug router / modem for 10 sec and replug

Two: Go to the network settings and disable the ethernet (note I am connected via ethernet cable, 100% wired)
disable it

Enable it BUT i have to enable it about 30 times before it enables.

When it's enabling, it doesn't enable, it shows the message that it's enabling and I refresh the background and it's still disabled. I have to keep enabling until it randomly works (if anyone knows why I have to keep enabling it 30 times for it to actually enable please let me know)
why does my internet randomly stop on my PC? it works fine on other devices while its not working on my PC and it takes forever to enable the ethernet after i disable it.

Well, I guess I kinda deserved this one, but there still maybe hope. I was trying to free up space on my partitioned C drive by moving my user profile (C:\Users\Matthew) to F:\Users\Matthew and then using a NTFS Junction with the mklink cmd. Two files were stuck in the old user profile so I moved all the files back to C (all of these operations were done using a second admin account). Trying to log back into my regular account at first gave me a temp profile and the log pointed to an event 1542 (User Profile Service) error - It didn't give me a bubble telling me that it failed to load my profile correctly, just the error message in event viewer,

After rebooting, my vista account would instantly log me out. After entering the password, welcome flasshes for two seconds, then it says logging out. 20 seconds of black screeen with a frozen cursor and I am back at the login screen.

So... My account loads successfully in safemode, but not in standard more. Both the built in Admin and my other admin account (used for attempting the move) work in both modes. I have spent hours looking into common registry issues that most people describe with this.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-4211479757-2833760250-3217603951-XXXX is not labeled .bad or .bak, refcount is 0 and state is 0.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Answer:User profile works in Safe mode, not standard

I'd say that you screwed up your profile by moving stuff around since the registry points to multiple files/folders in the users folder. If you have other accounts that work then your easiest way around it would be to use one of those accounts or create another. I don't know what programs you use but I suspect that the programs you'd have the most problem with setting up again would be itunes, if you have it or with a mail client. You'd have to export your firefox bookmarks if you use it and move your IE bookmarks. Without knowing all that you do with your computer it'd be hard for me to advise you further but if you'd list the ones that you use the most I can try to help you port your data over to the other account.

Let this be a lesson to you.

I can open FF (r17-01) without any problems in my admin account and it runs just fine. If I switch to my std user account and open FF (r17-01), a popup appears 'Windows Explorer stopped working', then it restarts, then another popup, 'Firefox stopped working'. When I close the popup FF closes. I have uninstalled FF from my std user account and reinstalled it from the Mozilla web page twice on the std user account. I have disabled all add-ons and plugins. The problem just keeps coming back. There is no crash report that I can send to Mozilla. In the event viewer it shows as an application error. RPCRT4.dll is the faulty module in system32.

If your absolutely sure all traces of FF are removed, you can install FF to all users from the Admin account. The reverse is not true.

Alright I have a unique problem with my keyboard, that seems more or less of a software issue than a hardware issue. For some strange reason, every few minutes my laptop keyboard will stop working for no reason. But when I restart the computer, or go into standby and then turn the computer back on, it works fine. Currently having problem, in that when I turn on my laptop, it loads very slowly, and when it does eventually reach the sign-in screen it freezes within ~5-10 seconds regardless of whether I have time to enter password or not. I have tried disabling some unnecessary startup processes in safe mode, still no luck though. Every now an then it does work, an will continue to work, even if I put it into sleep mode an restart through that. When I try boot up in safe mode it works fine without freezing. I am running Vista also btw. This is all the info I can think of, I am not incredibly computer literate, but if any more info is required I shall gladly post here if I know how to. Thanks.

Answer:Freezing on User Sign In Screen [works in safe mode]

Since Safemode works fine, the problem is likely a start-up app.

Use SysInternals AutoRuns -

Go through "startup" entries 1-by-1, uncheck a box, see if you can boot into normal Windows.

First, I'm sorry if this has already been answered. I've searched the forums, but haven't been able to find an answer to my situation.

When I right click on a program from my user account (no admin privileges) and choose to "run as Administrator", I am not prompted for the Administrator password. The program then prompts: "XXX needs local Administrator privileges." This has been happening on all programs I have downloaded recently, not just one in particular.

I do have a valid Administrator account. In the past (on the same computer, same OS) I have been able to right click, select Run as Administrator, then enter a password, and continue unhindered.

I am not sure what has changed, but I now have to log in to the actual Administrator account to install programs when I used to be able to do it from my user account by running as administrator.

Any help getting "Run as Administrator" to work on my lower privileged user account again is greatly appreciated.

I have no saved point to reboot my system to a past saved poiht (the last saved point is the same day that my pc stopped working).

Long ago I disconnected the side panel from the pc box which includes a fan and lately my pc temp have raised up to 50 when before it was around the 30's or 40's.
The days this problem started I wasn't home and a blackout happened while my pc was still on.

Hello everyone

I did some searching on the forums and haven't found the problem I am having.

Before I used to be able to use the net user administrator /active:yes command and it worked fine, I could then see the "administrator" account at the login screen, and when I changed it to active:no it would then remove it at the login screen as it should.

So then I ran a whole bunch of windows updates including Sp1 and now when i run the
net user administrator /active:yes command I have no login icon. It says the command completes successfully but I can't access the account. So I tried rolling back pre SP1 and it didn't solve the issue. There could be anther update that blocked this but not sure. Anyone experience the same thing after running windows updates?

I'm running win7 home premium 64 bit

Thanks all

Answer:Net user administrator /active not working anymore

Run SFC -SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If this fails, obtain a Win7 Home Premium with SP1 installer (not slipstreamed) to run a Repair Install

Have uploaded URL for my system specification page. In case this fails, my machine is an Acer Aspire 5633WLMi, 160 GB hard Drive (55 GB free), 2 GB RAM, loaded with OEM pre-installed Vista Home Premium (updated by now to SP2). System is 3.5 years old.

Early in its operating life the problem started and persists to this day - even in Safe Mode.

When I attempt to save a Window-created file (created using notepad, wordpad or other Windows program) to my hard drive or external flash drive, explorer crashes within 2 secs of clicking on
HTML Code:
in the file tree in the left hand pane of the explorer window. Peculiarly the program does not crash with the same invariable consistency if I click on the

symbol to the left of the computer icon.

I am at a loss and would very much like NOT to have to re-install Vista.

Can anyone help ?

Hello! I have been experiencing a problem for a few months where every once in a while, I will be in class and my wifi will completely stop working. It will say I'm connected to the network, but I will be unable to load any webpages. After shutting my laptop screen, or manually attempting to put my machine in standby mode, it simply shows the going into standby screen indefinitely. The longest I left it up for was 30 minutes before forcing my machine to restart. I am running Windows XP SP3 on my T400. I got it a little over 4 years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! -Matt

Hello everyone, I just purchased a new Dell Inspirion laptop about a week ago. Right out of the box it connected to wifi with no problems. I noticed the second day however that sometimes after it was in sleepmode(lid shut) it sometimes cannot connect to my router until I shut my computer down completely and restart. It can see the router, but it is unable to connect completely. I don't think it is the wifi card because the drivers are up to date and I can connect to an unsecured router in the area with no problems. It almost always works after a complete shutdown.

If anyone has some info or things to try it would be very appreciated.

Specs: Dell Inspirion

Answer:Wifi stops working after sleep mode or hibernate.

Go into Device Manager. Go to your wireless adapter, properties, Power Management, unclick "Allow the computer to..."

If that doesn't work, I'll try something else.

So I get these moments where the computer decides to enter power saving mode randomly (more usual when in gaming but happens other times too). I notice that I can still hear whatever is going on (skype, game) but all peripherals have somehow disconnected and cannot do anything. I cannot exit it externally and will have to force a restart.

Another problem is that the computer randomly freezes and tells me that the AMD Display driver stops working and recovers. This happens when I'm watching videos, not gaming. I then quickly close the tab or exit the movie player. If I try to continue watching the video (or reopen the video file, page) after this, the computer will keep freezing up and eventually shutdown so I just restart it.

I figured these two are probably linked.
Any help will be awesome.

For starters tell us your syste specs also be sure to tell us what ATI gpu have and which catalyst version.
Disable power management within windows:

I have a Prot?g? Z10A and the touchpad and keyboard intermittiently stops working after sleep mode. I cannot wake it up or restart without re-booting.

I have done the update to the firmware keyboard docker as advised in a thread on January 2014 but this has not helped the problem.
This computer is only 2 weeks old.

I have been to download site and updated all drivers and updates.
The computer works perfectly except for this problem.

When the tablet is asleep the white led is blinking, and when it is all works ok, but if the light for some reason is not blinking but permanently lit then it will not restart and I have to re-boot the tablet.

I have disabled the hibernation mode in options but still no help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Portege Z10t-A - touchpad intermittiently stops working after sleep mode

I?m wondering if the option (within the BIOS) called Wake-Up on Keyboard is enabled.
To restore the operation of the computer from sleep mode, press the power button or any key on the keyboard dock for a short amount of time. But the keyboard keys can only be used if the mentioned option is enabled.

Note: when the notebook is in Sleep Mode, the power indicator will blink white. If the power indicator does not blink white, the notebook isn?t set to sleep mode!

Guys. I need help. so this is generally an update of my previous post (screw my previous post). So, again, I have 6 usb ports and 4 of it are not working. but they are working when i boot the pc on safe mode. so i guess this isn't hardware, right? ( i think those 4 non-functional ports are 3.0 usb ports and the working ones are 2.0 ports)

There is nothing to restore because i didn't have an update plus there's no history.

Tried system restore but the dates available are dates that i already got issues so it's a big no.

Maybe my nephew did something accidentally that caused this or I did? i don't want to argue. I already checked the device manager and there is no yellow flags anywhere. i'm running out of options. can someone please help? i'll be grateful. thanks ahead!!

Answer:Some USB ports are not working but works only on safe mode

Thats coz W7 >>does not<< have USB3 drivers as part of the OS.
You will have to go to your Comps homepage (make/model) and download them.
Doubt if they will be available as i suspect this is a non--genuine install.

I have a problem where the digitizer pen interittently stops working on the yoga S1 - win8.1 x64 with all updates applied.I can re-create the issue by folding the screen from normal mode to  tablet mode, then normal mode , then tablet mode. At this point, the pen susually stops working. I can get it to come back to life sometimes if i wait a minute, or if i go to power settings and apply / un apply something or by restart. It sounds like a driver issue to me - and possiby power management drivers - triggered by swithcing to tablet mode.I have tried max perfromance, min power savings etc to stop the screen driver being starved of power, have disabled sleep and hibernation. Done multiple driver re-installs, but no difference. Sometimes restarting the drivers relating to the pen and touch screen bring it back to life. But it should not die in the first place. Anyone else have this or do i have a hardware issue?

Hi there to who ever may be reading.

First of all thanks for taking a look at my issue, the problem as follows :

It shuts down (ie turns off, need to manually press the power button to boot up again) when getting to windows xp desktop.

what i have tried so far:
complete reformat windows xp home

complete reformat windows xp pro

taken the battery out of the motherboard for 30 secs then putting it back in(sometimes this works and it did for a while inabling me to install some softwarelike mobo drivers then after
reboot the problem persisted)

Following that i have tried different batterys and no battery at all each not solving the issue

started in safe mode and installed service pack 3

cleaned processor and heat sink

tried different psu

tried different hard drive (with fresh install)

I originally thought it would be a power issue but i have left it on overnight in safe mode as a test and it never shut down. It only seems to shut down in normal mode! i thought it might be a software issue but i have reinstalled it with different discs and different versions.

I dont think it is a hardware issue as it doesnt turn off when in safe mode, but then i dont think its a software issue because of the multiple clean installs that i have done. So i really dont know.

Please, sombody put me out of my misery. . . . What is wrong with my computer!

I have few Toshiba laptops, satellite, and now netbook100.

All of them share one problem, touchpad scroll bar:
It will stop working after exit full screen mode in youtube.
Here is how to reproduce the incident:

1. using any mainstream browser, start playing a youtube video, click full screen button at the bottom right corner of the video.
2. click on the [cross] to exit the full screen mode. (next to full screen button.)
3. check if you scroll bar still functioning.
4. a reboot will restore the function.

Currently, I?m on vista, I believe in XP you will have the same problem.
Searching in google (touchpad scroll bar stops full screen youtube) will return more people share the same question but no answer.

Environments: win xp all, win vista all.
Windows all most updated driver, touch pad driver up to date.

This is not a major tech problem but for a netbook, this is very annoying.

Hi everyone-

I've got a puzzler--for me anyway, hopefully someone will have some advice.

My laptop connects to my modem and the internet, then after a minute or so, it stops working. It is not loading any pages, won't ping anything (request timed out), and is probably not connected to the router anymore since I can't load the router administration from that computer, but I still have a valid IP address, and Windows still insists that I'm connected.

The laptop internet works fine when using a wired connection. It also works fine when connecting to other wireless connections (work and Starbucks are 2 I've tried). The home network works fine on my Lenovo X61 running Windows XP as well as my LG p-925 (phone) running Android 2.2, my Acer A500 (Android 3.2). So I'm thinking it's a Windows 7 issue with my router, but I haven't been able to find anything on the topic online.

The router is a Dlink DIR-655

The laptop is a Samsung Series 3 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. This one, in fact:

It is fresh out of the box. I have only installed Firefox, Dropbox, and AVG, which I did at work, where the wireless connection works ...

A list of things I've tried:

resetting router to factory settings
updating drivers on the computer (they were up to date)

I got this weird/annoying issue yesterday and here goes the scenario:
I could use my Windows 7 for exactly 1 hour then it stops responding which leads me to restart.
After restart, I get an error of boot manager corruption so I have to use Setup disc to fix startup issues since this option won't show up the second reboot.
Anyway, after fixing it and booting successfully, the problem comes back with the same scenario which made me think I have hardware issue.

I did the following so far with no luck!
1) Checked the cables inside
2) Resetted CMOS to default
3) Restored Win7 to an older (working) version using Acronis

Here's my config:
OS: Win7 Ultimate x64
MoBo: Gigabyte Ex58 Extreme
RAM: Kingmax DDR3 4x4 1333 Mhz
GPU: nVidia GTX 570
CPU: Intel Core i7 2.8 Ghz
HDD: Corsair SSD 64GB
PSU: Gigabyte 1200 watt
AntiVirus: Kaspersky Internet Security 2012

So, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Solved: Windows 7 works for only 60 minutes then stops responding !!

Turns out the issue was on the SSD Hard drive which needed firmware upgrade and that's what solved my problem!
Thanks anyway

Hi guys, Foxfax again, and this time it might not be a virus eating my computer from within!

I recently moved into a new flat and brought my trusty desktop with me. Having been away from the poor thing for nearly 2 months and, with all the jiggling from the move, I took the side panel off and made sure everything was plugged in correctly before booting up. Everything was fine. Since it's been a while, there were around 40 updates Windows was screaming at me to install. First I ensured everything was all right, and all programs that I tried worked including Steam, OpenOffice, Adobe Reader, Solitaire and World of Tanks. So I shut down and let Windows Update install the updates completely, but problems then began to arise.

Now, when I turn the computer on, it hangs either at the Welcome screen after I log in, or at Configuring Update 1 of 3: 0% or 3 of 3: 0% before the log in screen. The furthest I've gotten is an all-black screen with a cursor and nothing else after 45 minutes of waiting when I fell asleep once, and another time when it got to the desktop and froze there. Safe Mode seems fine, and I can access pretty much anything bar those things Safe Mode seems unsafe. After I shut down Safe Mode (usually because I've been trying something that requires it), the "Configuring Updates" screen appears, but nothing changes.

I tried System Restore, but there were only two Restore Points and neither worked. Safe Mode won't let me manually unin... Read more

So basically my brother put me on his domain thing and it's caused me loads of problems and he doesn't want to fix them. So now i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. When I try to log on as a user (Jebus) which is the user I currently use for most
activities it says something about there being no logon servers to process my request or something. So I instead thought if I just created a new user and copied the files over it should be fine. But my Jebus user had admin rights, so when I log onto the user
Administrator it can't open most of my C:Users folders, so I can't even see what's inside the Jebus folder. And when it asks for permission so I can access this file, administrator credentials say they require elevation, and the Jebus credentials do nothing.
So now I'm just stuck on this administrator account and I can't do anything. Please help.

It's safer to have a limited account for internet use, while using the admin account only when needed. That is, you would log in as a limited user for email and web browsing, but (for example) when you started a command prompt you could use the "run as" option if you needed to use it as an admin.

For someone who has used the administrator account for everything, though, it's a real pain to set up user preferences for a new limited account. I wish Windows would let you copy one user account to another with a new name, and then change the new user's group to user instead of admin. I have seen that capability on some operating systems but don't know how to do it in Windows.

Is there a way to do this in Windows?

Is there an easy way to copy one user's account's Firefox settings and addons to another user's Firefox?

Answer:Windows: User and Administrator accounts

Do it the other way around!!!!!!!!!

Set up a new ADMINISTRATOR account.
Then demote your current account to limited user.

That way you keep all your existing settings and data intact.

I was just using my computer as per usual when there was an error in installing a program. I found the error and fixed it by troubleshooting. the fix was to create a new user with administrater credentials and so i did. I fixed the problems and switched back to my main administrator user. I have been using this for a couple of weeks when i turned off my computer. When i re booted it automatically logged into my new account that i had created for the fix. I found this odd, so i went to switch users and my main account with everything on it was missing. I've read up on this and have tried various fixes including restoring to back before the problem started. But to no avail. I found on many websites that this can only be fixed by copying the previous data on to a new account therefore reclaiming my lost data. when i tried this it told me that access was denied, even though i was in my new adminstrator account. My computer had been working correctly until this happened. I will upload some screenshots which will hopefully shed some light on the situation. Ohh i have tried this forum with no results. I just helped a friend build his first PC. However, what I found out is that he has no aptitude, or maybe it is mostly no interest, for software and OS setup. So I ended up taking the PC home to do the OS install and drivers and such.

My question is should I set him up to use his PC under a User Account and not the Administrator account?

I remember reading somewhere that for everyday use, even for experienced users, it is best to use a User Account.

Answer:Windows 7: should we use Administrator or User account ?

He wants to do hardware but not software?
Send the pc back auto logging into a user account with a bill for your time. Be prepared for the inevitable tech support calls, that is one of the reasons for a bill at this point. Dont forget to document the admin account so when you get to fix it you can access the admin account.

So we are a company stuck a few years in the past. We give all of our approximate 1,200 users (currently on XP Pro SP 2) admin rights because we have about 5 different computer models at any given time and have 5 images to maintain. With all of the software we have on our network and our limited IS staff (on the support side aside from server guys/network guys/etc, we have 3 service desk guys and 2 desktop support guys in our corporate office, and we have about 10 remote sites and only 5 of them have IS support, mostly with one person or one part-time person at each site), we just can't seem to find that magic bullet for just suddenly taking everyone's admin rights away or just suddenly stop shipping computers with admin rights. With Windows 7, I thought I had seen the light with UAC - ship users their computers with limited user accounts, and remote in to input administrator credentials to install all of their software for them. However, after lowering my UAC level to "Never notify," suddenly I can install Java, Roxio, etc...

So today I attended a 3 hour workshop on Windows 7 and the instructor told me that if you do not use Group Policy to disable the UAC "slider," then user's can install software and do anything else that they want to. That just doesn't sound right to me.

If that's not right, why am I able to install software on my PC as a regular user without inputting admin info?

I downloaded an application recently, and when I opened it, it said that I need some sort of application to be installed in my laptop, I pressed "yes", and it gave a message that windows is finding this file. After waiting a while, I decided to cancel it, it didn't stop so I pressed the power button to shut down. After this when I try to log in to my user it just keeps showing welcome. I can't access this user even from safe mode. I tried to log in to my another user, which is not administrator and it was successful. Then I tried to delete that application I downloaded before, but I couldn't, my whole computer crashes and I have to restart it.
Now I don't know how to log in to my user and delete this application.
Thanks in advance for help.

I am have recently bought a dell inspiron 15 7000 series laptop. Its only been a month that I have been using it. Everything was fine but my airplane mode button (the button beside F12 and PrtScr which are working fine) stopped working. Any help? Every other buttons on the button row is fully functional so I fear its not a keyboard matrix problem?
Please help me.

I was trying to explain to a friend yesterday the difference between the powers of the hidden Administrator account and a user account with Administrator privileges; but, I don't feel I was successful. I searched for an article on the 'net that would explain one vs the other; but, I could not find one.

Can someone point me to such an article?

Answer:Solved: Administrator Acct vs User with Administrator privileges

This is an article on how to enable/disable the Built-In Administrator account but at the beginning it explains the difference between the two which, it seems, boils down to whether or not a UAC prompt is needed to gain elevated permission:[2]=User Accounts&

I have one user that is the Computer Administrator account.

I set up a password on for it and then removed the password (this was done to test something on my network and the password is not really needed) and now my Computer Administrator account is hosed.

It is behaving as if it is a limited access account. I can not remove or add software, nor can I access programs that I should have access to.

I have logged off & back on. I have rebooted multiple times. Nothing has corrected this.

I've searched but can not find the answer to this specific problem that I have.

Wondering if I can make a new computer administrator account, log into it & then delete the current one (hosed up one) that I have and be back in business? Or does this sound like a more complicated problem?

Hi,I have spent a looong time setting up the default Administrator Acount in windows after a new installation of XP Pro.I had the taskbar & desktop icons etc all how I wanted. The only thing that was wrong was the name in the Start menu.I wanted to change it from Administrator to my name, so I went to user accounts and Created a new account in my name and got a the default desktop setup. When I tried to go back to the Administrator Account it is not listed to log onto any more? Can I get back into it?And if I can is it possible tochange the name of the Administrator account please?Really hacked off!

Answer:Windows User Accounts - Administrator has vanished

The admin account is hidden by default. If your user account has full admin rights you don't really need to use it. But if you want the option:If the Welcome Screen is enabled (You have to log on to a user name) press Ctrl-Alt Del twice. You will get the Logon to Windows dialog. Enter Administrator, and then the administrator password. If you want to add the administrator option to the user names permanently open a command prompt and typelusrmgr.mscThis will open local users and groups. Double click the Administartors group and remove all accounts EXCEPT the Administrator.Open either Users or Power Users groups and add back each of the users you removed.Done.You cannot change the administrator name.

I have a new PC and set up. I have (stupidly, not knowing what I was doing) changed from an Administrator to a Standard User. There are NO other Administrators set up on this PC! Now, there seems to be NO way to change back from Standard user to Administrator. Every solution I have come across needs an Administrator password and of course, I don;t have one because I am not signed in as an administrator! Does anyone know of a workable solution to this? I can't even do a system restore because of course, I need to be signed in as an Administrator! ANY assistance will be most gratefully received!

I purchased a Inspiron 17 7737 directly from on 12/5/2013.  It was delivered on 12/182013.  It had Windows 8 as the operating system.  I had assumed that it would have the latest version of Windows when it arrived since 8.1 had been issued in October. I opened the Store app and the upgrade to Windows 8.1 was not available to me.  I understood that this was a problem for others and did not pursue it further at that time.  I was out of town for 2 weeks in January and did not use the laptop during that 2 week period.  When I returned, I opened the Store and found prominently placed the invitation to the free upgrade to 8.1. I was signed in using the Administrator account and when I hit the download button for 8.1. I was given the message "You need to use an account with Administrator privileges to install Windows 8.1, try logging in with the user account of an administrator of this PC and try update again".  I verified that my account had Administrator privileges and tried again and got the same message. I created another user account and gave it administrator privileges and tried the download again signed in on that account and got the same message.  I called technical support and for over 5 hours over 2 different days, the technician attempted to resolve the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling Windows updates. When that failed to resolve the problem, he "refreshed" my PC which, I understood put it back to ... Read more

Answer:Store does not recognize my Administrator User account when attempting to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

You are not alone. Several have had the same problem with no resolution. I think it has something funny to do with the User Accounts. Making a second account with admin privleges doesn't work. I would try to reinstall the OS from the hidden image and try again. A Refresh like Dell tried will not do the trick, as it retains much of the data from before the Refresh; you need a clean start. Don't do anything witht the Admin Account other than let Windows set it up and set your password. All updates need to be installed before the upgrade will show in the Store. I have upgraded five Win 8 installations and have had zero problems.

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and Office 2007. I installed a Bluetooth transceiver recently and developed a problem when replying to email in Outlook 2007. When I select an email to reply, the email editor pops up with a "Custom UI Runtime Error in Send to Bluetooth." The solution to this issue is to disable the COM Add-In "Send to Bluetooth" in one of the other Office applications such as Word.

However, when I attempt to uncheck the "Send to Bluetooth" option, I get an indication from a pop-up warning box that "This add-in is installed for all users on this computer, and can only be connected or disconnected by an administrator.

I am the only user on this computer and my user account is an administrator account. I have the system to start to the desktop without any intermediate log-ins or any intermediate screens.

How do I let Word know that I am an administrator so I can disable the COM Add-In and stop the offending pop-up every time I reply to an email?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:User Administrator Account won't allow Administrator Privilages

You could try right clicking the program and choose run as administrator. Then try to disable the addon.
Although with Microsoft software it usually is smart enough to prompt you with uac when you need to change something like that.

Hi all
Quick question if i may, this is really baffling me. I have onboard sound on my xfx 750i mobo. ( realtek, i believe) i have installed the latest drivers and for some reason i have this strange problem. If i have my speakers plugged in the back of the PC. the sound is really good. Good quality, then for some reason the audio will cut out then after a few seconds it will come back on. No matter what im listening too, music, watching a film etc... allways does it. Theres no pattern to it, i can listen to a whole song with out pause, then the next song will do it throughout. Also im my gaming (CSS) the audio is nowhere near as good as what it was in vista/xp, i cant hear as much as what i used to be able too, yet when i listen to music, when its not cutting out the quality is fantastic.
I tried my headphones in the front socket, now if i use my headphones the sound does not cut out, however regulary it seems that sound goes low and then comes back as if it is wanting to cut out but doesnt.

Hope someone can help and that post actually made sense lol

Answer:Audio works, then stops then works again

I wonder if it's a flakey (bad) connection somewhere. Have you reseated (unplug then plug back in) the speaker connection to the PC's sound? Same way there is a cable from the front panel that plugs into the motherboard.

And i dont have password. How can i solve this?

Answer:Windows open into administrator mode in start!

You mean it's logging automatically into the Administrator account?

Why do you have it enabled in the first place? It's hidden by default and only enabled if you enable it via command prompt.

Dell Dimension 2400
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.20GHZ
Windows XP Professional

I apologize in advance about the length of this post but I am at my wits end and just want to be thorough. Also, please forgive me if the answer is somewhere here on the website, I have been dealing with this computer for nearly a month and am a little worn out on searching for answers.

The computer is my sister's. She inherited it from her boyfriend's father with no operating system cd except for a Windows XP Professional Upgrade cd(Includes Service pack 1, Version 2002).

The problems began when we attempted to hook it up to the internet. I found the Ethernet Controller on Dell Support and promptly solved that problem.

Then it began missing dll files and her icons were showing up unrecognized and it kept asking if she wanted to search the internet for programs to run applications she had previously ran on a daily basis with no problem. I downloaded a regedit hotifx and fixed that...I have both fixes on my memory stick USB if they are needed.

Then, her cat was running around and jumped down on the power strip, that everything was plugged into, and turned everything off. When she turned it back on nothing happened. I thought nothing of it at first and figured she had forgot to turn on the monitor or something trivial..that was not the case. Upon power up all the bells and whistles would fire up and the Dell loading screen would load and then....BLACK!!! I went home to my... Read more

The start button wasn't working after a power outage so I was googling how to fix that and ended up doing what the kid said in a youtube video which involved doing this:
*Open Command Prompt as Admin
*The Command is "sfc /scannow"
Now after restart the computer is in safe mode and a popup says:
'This app can't open - Get Started can't be opened using the Built-in Administrator account. Sign in with a different account and try again. '
I don't have any other accounts to sign into so Im not sure what to do..

Answer:Windows 10 stuck in safe mode. Something to do with Administrator account?

I don't think it has something to do with an admin account. "Get Started" is an app, and I don't think all apps can run in Safe Mode, hence the error you encountered.
Try this:
press the Windows key + R, to bring up the Run dialog box.
type in "msconfig" and press Enter
in the window that appears, open the "Boot" tab, and in that tab make sure that "Safe Boot" is not checked.Restart your PC afterwards.
