How to prevent multiple browser windows switching on load complete?

Question: How to prevent multiple browser windows switching on load complete?

(Using IE6 on XP)

Hi!

When I have multiple browser windows open and I am viewing one window, I get automatically switched to another window when page loading in that window completes. It's quite distracting; is there a setting I can change to prevent this?

Thanks for any help!

Preferred Solution: How to prevent multiple browser windows switching on load complete?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hey all

i have 2 keybard layouts, English and French.

So once in a while the keyboard will just change input on its own. Not kidding.

i just start my browser to type something in a forum or facebook whatever and the layout changes from one to the other.

Windows is assuming i want to type in French because the interface is in french, but i'm on an english forum.

How can i prevent this odd behavior from happening while letting me choose on my own which layout ?

Answer:How to prevent windows from switching keyboard layout on the fly ?

If they are both hooked up at the same time, yes the OS can change the layout on the whim. Just get one with the keys silk screened with both English and French on the keys and then you can just make the change on the fly from a shortcut.

I need to load an internet browser multiple times to get internet access after the computer has been on for a period of time. The longer the the time the computer has been on, the more times I need to load the browser. This problem has existed for several months. It existed before and after downloading Windows XP Service Pack 2.

For example, I left the computer on overnight last night. I needed to load Microsoft Internet Explorer thirteen times the first twelve of which displayed the message "The page cannot be dispayed." On the thirteenth attempt I received access to my home page on the internet. When I turn off the computer and restart it, I get internet access on the first load of a browser.

I have internet access with email and other programs which are browser independent. It seems to make no difference in results whether I use dial up or a DSL line. It also makes no difference which internet browser I use. I get the same result with Internet Explorer, Maxthon or Firefox.

The computer that has the internet access problem is running Windows XP Pro with all updates installed. I have a DSL router with 4 computers attached, two with Windows 98 SE operating systems, a laptop with Windows XP Pro operating system and the problem computer which is hardwired to the computer. None of the other three have browser internet access problems.

I use the most recent versions of Zone Alarm, Norton AntiVirus with the most recent definitions installed, and S... Read more

Hello Sometimes it happens that I double-click on an icon of a (any) program and - nothing happens. Then I double-click on it again, and (in a couple of seconds, or more) - to my surprise - that program then opens twice! This usually happens when the computer's CPU is high, and it needs a couple of seconds (or more) to launch the first instance of the application. So, I wonder, is there any utility program that will perhaps:- Detect the memory proces of already started application, and- prevent, or pop-out a warning-message when initiated twice (or more!)Is there something of this kind already available?Best regards

Answer:Prevent multiple opening of the same program in Windows?

This sounds very similar to a problem that I am having with my Dell desktop. Both Allan and Superdave have made suggestions to me about how to tell what processes are consuming all the CPU and or memory use and making it slow to get into Windows and programs thereafter.Perhaps there might be some useful information hereAlternately you can use the Ctrl Alt Del ( press all three at the same time, you need two hands to do this unless you have very long fingers) to bring up a "Windows Security' screen. Select the "Task manager" icon. It will bring up the Task Manager box. Then select in the top row "Processes", from there you can see what processes are running on your computer. There is also a selection for "Performance". This will give you an idea of how hard your computer is working. It sounds like there is a program running in the background that is stealing all the memory available. If you go to "Control panel" and open "System" click on that and select "Hardware" in the system properties box that comes up. You will see in the top area "Device Manager", click on that. This will open another box that shows all your computers components. Check in the left hand column whether you see any yellow warning icons. You can also click on the plus signs to open each of the titles to see if there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it. These warning signs mean there is a problem with this item.

Over the course of the last few months, I have been experiencing issues logging into my office computer from home as there has been other individuals logging in at my work station using the "Switch User" option. This creates issues for me logging in from home. Locking the computer does nothing to prevent Switching Users. Is there any way to make my Windows 10 computer at work only usable by me....ie, making Switching Users not possible? Thank you in advance.

On my HP laptop, the "Complete" sound plays after a CD burn, import or app update is complete. The "Page Load Complete" sound plays after download of an app and at various other time I can't recall off the top of my head. Some people find these sounds annoying and disable them. I, however, like them as they let me know what's going on when I'm away from the computer.

On iTunes on my Maingear desktop, these sounds do not play at the prescribed times. In fact, the only time they play at all is if I go to System Sounds, select them and press the "Test" button. They are selected and are pointed to the correct file location but, they do not play in iTunes when they are supposed to.

Any ideas?

Hi all,

Everytime I boot my pc I get a MULTIPLE IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS BSOD on Windows 8.1. Upon rebooting (which takes quite a bit longer than the original boot) things work fine. From what I understand the causes of this BSOD vary quite a bit. I attached my minidump file in case anyone here could help me through that. Thanks in advance.

The first three are likely in Downloads/Utilities section on your motherboard's website (look to see if Windows 7 drivers are newer if that is the latest there is only.)

The last one can be download from Intel.com.

The others, a quick Google search should help. Let me know if you get stuck.

After all is said and done, if issues persist, remove AVG and set Windows Firewall + Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too.

On the screen where you choose which user account to log in to, I've noticed the user avatars/icons are sorted in "last used" order. This is extremely annoying because it forces you to actively look at the icons instead of just alway clicking on the same place on the screen. (Compare it to if the digits buttons on your cellphone switched places e.g putting the 0 first. Confusing.)

How can I prevent this, ie to have the avatars in a fixed position always?

Thank you!

Option One in the tutorial below would be a good option to have "All Users" always show at sign in instead of the "Last User".

All day now I've been trying to find a way to fix this. I do not have LogMeIn on my computer, which seemed to be the most common cause of this error. Basically this morning I realized that my Elan touchpad was no longer responding to two-fingered gestures, and I realized I may have accidentally uninstalled the driver the other day, then windows probably installed a default one. I downloaded the latest Elan driver from the website then ran it. It installed successfully, asked for a restart, and I've gotten nothing but the BSOD since. No startup repair, no system refresh, no safe mode. Nothing works. Even System Restore gives me an 'unknown error' for any restore point I try.

I imagine if I could just delete or rollback that driver then the machine would be fine, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do that in Windows 8.1 if I can't access the desktop. Any help is much appreciated!

My laptop with Vista Premium Edition was shutdown using the tab, that allowed for it to do updates. Apparently the updates didn't finish as it is saying 3 of 3 0% and will not reload to windows. If I turn it off, and restart, it will not load to windows. It just keeps going thru the start up process to the updating screen and then the same again. I tried loading in safe mode. No luck. I tried last good configuration, same thing. What can I do? I cannot find my vista cd. Is there anyway to get a copy of the cd with the product code? Maybe then i can just restore to a few days ago? Thanks for any advice.

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for helping with my problem -- I really appreciate it.

Last weekend I got a very bad infection that basically rendered my system unusable, i.e., when I tried to launch resident programs such as Word, some message said that the .exe was infected, and asked if I would like to activate my antivirus software. The problem at that time was evidently a rogue antivirus program; I ran several spyware cleaner programs (those that I saw recommended on this forum) and this seems to have been fixed -- so now it looks like I just have this redirect problem.

First, my details:
- Windows XP Service Pack 3
- IE 8
- Firefox 3.5.5
- Chrome 3.0

Here's what happens: When I use any of the above-mentioned browsers to search, using Google or Yahoo, and I click on one of the links in the search results, I get taken to some random, garbage website instead of the one mentioned in the search results.

Also, multiple browser windows open repeatedly -- multiple windows with IE, and multiple tabs with Chrome. This seems to get worse over time, until the next reboot.

Here's what I've tried within the past two days:
- SuperAntiSpyware
- Spybot Search & Destroy
- Malwarebytes' Anti-malware
- Spyware Doctor
- Browser Hijack Recover
- Windows Live Onecare Safety Scanner
- My primary antivirus program had been McAfee, but now I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials instead

I've run scans with all of the above (some of them in safe mode) but the pro... Read more

Hi all

Basically since yesterday my PC has been having issues. I first got a BSOD which stated it was due to memory management. I reboot the PC and it ran for a bout 5 mins before happening again. This continued to happen and then stopped briefly. I tried to do a windows update in between, however half way through it crashed with CI.dll and then on startup with a couple of .sys files showing up on the BSODs. Eventually it fired back up however, when it did, the Chrome preferences were gone and it stated that Windows was not a genuine copy. To try and solve the .sys problems I used a Pro upgrade disk (as I had a key spare). This seemed to stop the system related BSODs however Windows still continued to tell me the copy of windows was not genuine. I therefore tried to activate my copy of windows however after I input my key, during activation the Memory Management BSOD returned. I tried this several times but no dice. I therefore thought it might be a virus, however as Norton Scans, it crashes at a specific point with the Memory Management BSOD. Again I tried this several times but no luck.
I then tried to reinstall windows but as that fires up, the BSOD occurs. I removed the OS HDD and tried to run the setup again and it seems to work, so it makes me think there is a virus or fault on the HDD.

I am completely perplexed to what is happening and would very much appreciate some help.

And after a few hours of getting my head around windows 8 in general i really like it, its soft and easy on the eye. It makes things more personal well it feels like it does anyways haha. Ive been using my laptop for browsing, downloading and a little bit of gaming and have come across only two problems which are the following. If any one could tell me the problem or any sort of resolution it would be very grate full.

1 - Browser issue , When using Google Chrome browser i cannot select certain things like inserted links.
eg - Facebook cannot add freinds using the 'add' icon.
-Cannot click downloads which say 'click here' it does nothing i have to open them in new tabs. why is this??

2 - Toggle issue, if i open up some apps say like Mail or Calender when i am not in the apps it sometimes flicks to them with the touch of the mouse pad why i cant work out what is making it do this its not a double click or moving it left they just pop up after touching the mouse.

I have shockwave flash player and java installed that did not resolve the browser issue.

Help would be great. hiya guys.

Hello Walshy, and welcome to Eight Forums.
Q1) Not sure about this one. If you have any installed extension in Chrome, then you might temporarily disable them to see if it may help.
Q2) This sounds like it may be the touchpad Edge Swipes feature. It's suppose to help make using the Charms bar, app Switcher, and Application bar easier, but often it makes it to easy to do so by mistake. In your case, it sounds like you're using Switcher by mistake with this feature to open the apps with. The tutorial below can help show you how to disable the touchpad Edge Swipes feature. It may be a bit different on how to for your system, but it should help get you there.

Hey guys! I'm really hoping you can solve a problem that I've spent the past 16 hours wrestling with. This morning my PC hard crashed,. I didn't think anything of it, restarted and got back to work. About an hour later it hard crashed again, eventually BSODing within minutes of logging in. These are just some of the errors:
IRQL null less or equal
System Service Exception
Bad Pool Header
Kmove exception not handled
And a few others. I could never stay on long enough to google these errors so I ran CHKDSK from the advanced boot screen which came back fine. I decided "screw it" and just did a System Restore since my last point was a few days ago. Then it BSOD during the system restore, and it made it so that it would crash after the Windows logo. I decided to use the Reset to reinstall Windows 10 but keep my files, and, you guessed it! BSOD during that. Now it doesn't even ask for my password in the advanced boot screen like it used to. If I try to do the Reset again it gives me an error and says it can't be done.
If I power on, there's a 90% chance it either hard crashes or BSOD at the Windows logo. On the off-chance that it makes it beyond that, it runs a repair tool, but it always fails.
I made a Windows 10 USB installer but it just prompts for a serial key which I don't have because I used the automatic upgrade from Windows 8.1 a few weeks ago.
I spent hours searching for answers, and even resorted to making a USB Linux installer just to access my HDD and transfer... Read more

I sometimes accidentally run two copies of notepad. Sometimes, I don't spot them both in my taskbar. I wondered if there was a way to alert me that I'm attempting to run the same .exe, if I already have it open?

For example, on my desktop I have a notepad file. I'll run that, but sometime later, I'll double click on it again, forgetting that I've already got the same file open in notepad for editing, because it's been minimised, and I don't check the taskbar to see if it's there. Thanks for any comments.

Answer:How do I prevent multiple .exes (eg notepad) from running?

Hi, you could, if you wished, write a small script that launches Notepad from a shortcut

The sequence would be

If Notepad.exe already exists
Ask if you wish to continue
If yes, open Notepad
else exit

Quite easy in Autohotkey for example (free).

On another forum I belong to, there has been a recent outbreak of issues of multiple accounts. It is a serious issue, because contests are in the works, and money is won by votes cast by other users. Now if someone with multiple accounts casts several votes for his himself, he would win unfairly by cheating.

Is there someway to check other users to see if they belong to the same person. + is there a way to do it without checking IP addresses, or email addresses?

Thanks, Mike

You probably get this one a lot, and I've had it before but forgot what I have to do. While on a website, an unnamed pop-up appeared, and then the original browser window kept replicating itself ad nauseam. I had to forcedly shut it down and restart, but since then, nothing else has happened, although I have noticed the moving smileys on WLM have stopped moving...

I have worked out that to overcome the Site error message, after Posting a Response in the normal way, ignore the Site error message and close your Browser - wait a few moments and then open your Browser again. You will then find your message has Posted.
This is exactly what I am doing now, have recently made a double-post in Beginners' Tech Help.

Hi everyone!

I've got a strange problem.

IE seemingly randomly chooses whether it wants to load websites. I sometimes have to open several tabs before I get one that works. For example, if I want to right-click and open a link in a new window, I may have to try it several times before the page actually loads. Otherwise, I'll just have tab that appears to be seeking the website address, but just stalls there.

Firefox works perfectly so it isn't a connection issue.

This is my HijackThis log. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My son said when is using more than one browser window (IE 6.0 dial-up) and is viewing a new page while waiting for another to load, that the old page pops open when it is finished loading, instead of staying minimized until he re-opens it. He said his screen looks like the 4th of July with these pages poping open.

We can't find how to stop this in internet options. Would appreciate suggestions.

Answer:multiple browser windows open

You did not mention which version of Windows that you are using, but there is a program called tweakui that has a setting to prevent application from stealing focus.

Here is where you can find the pre-XP version.

Hello, this seems like is the place to come for help so here I am. The past 3 days I've been battling some malware that opens up several new browser windows often but with no regularity. It seems I'll get more windows opening the more/faster I type into a google search or even a txt file(weird!). These arent redirects exactly ...seems to only open up my homepage. It doesn't matter which browser I'm using and the behavior still happens in safe mode!

Win7 x64 - firefox

I'm sure I've tried every scanner out there and nothing has helped yet. I'm ready to post whatever logs you guys need.

I'm eager to beat this bugger so please help.

Thanks!

Hi

I am new to this forum and am glad to be here:

I have an Intel Pentium 3 computer and Windows Me operating System (soon to switch to Xubuntu OS)
I started having problems with multiple windows opening very rapidly and in an out of control fashion until no more space is available to run any programs and I am forced to reboot. There was even a fast clicking sound as the windows kept opening up over and over ... at the speed of Superman.

This has been happening for over a month now ... it goes away and then comes back (about once every couple of weeks)

I have the free avast virus program (updated automatically), and the free A2. I also run Adaware and Spybot and have tried the free online PCCillin check as well. I have also used Anti Vir but not at the same time as Avast.

I have not been able to find anything on my computer.

I reformatted my hard drive twice. And the darn thing keeps happening (but not every time ... just off the wall)

Changes I have made ... I had some extra ram put in my computer and XP installed for awhile then I deleted the partitions and reinstalled Windows Me creating a fat32 (as directed) as I was more comfortable with Me than XP.

Could the new ram be causing me the problem? I don't know. I must of picked up something or else something is malfunctioning for some reason or other .

Also, what is slip.net? I was browsing one day and I got sent there.
Got to a blank page that said test ... I forget what happened after that but I rebooted and ... Read more

I use Windows 2000 OS with IE. I just downloaded an update to Macromedia's shockwave flash player and after installation I found I could not open multiple browser windows. When I try to open a second window now, it simply directs my first window to my homepage.

I checked my browser settings but can't seem to find anything wrong. I also uninstalled the flash player and I'm still having the problem. Any ideas?

Hey guys thanks for any help I can get with this problem. I have tried many things to fix these problems.

First, whenever I type something into google it redirects me to another website, sorta like a advertising website..! I have tried many different ways to fix it, like spybot seach and destroy, avg, and multiple malware programs, even tried upgrading windows. So some help with be much appreciated..

The second problem is when i try to watch a video it just cuts off.. and it says it is fully loaded but the video cuts off what is actually loaded so its odd and my sound went out with it lol.

The last problem is whenever the monitor is going into standby, it goes into standby and says it is going to restart and it actually does but it goes into a black and white loading windows xp boot up screen. damn sucks.

I dont really want to resort into reinstalling windows and wiping everything i got on here, too many programs and dont really have time.. Just trying to finish my major in college. I have a a++ certification but this has really got me confused lol. I am a hardware person not so much software :( thanks

If you need specs just tell me to post them.

Answer:Multiple problems with browser and windows

Hi neweaver and welcome to TSF !

The advertising popups mean you may have a malware problem, some won't be detected by the regular anti-malware stuff. You need to solve that first so please follow these 5 steps and read the instructions carefully :
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html

Post the requested log(s) and a summary of your problems in a new thread in the HJT section. Be very patient as that section is extremely busy and it can take up to a week before you get an answer. As soon as an analyst starts reviewing your thread you'll have quick feedback.

Hello everybody,

For more than a week now I've been trying to solve this puzzle.
My Firefox and IE browsers get triggered and open multiple windows/tabs of my homepage or Windows Live page. (Oops, it just happened when typing this: so I used the 'go back one page' button). As soon as the webpage is finished loading it starts reloading or/and opens another window and the whole process starts all over again.
Another problem is that all of a sudden I can open my Firefox (default) browser with unintended hotkeys: The Ffour, Ffive, Five, Four and Delete key...

I tried Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Trojan Remover, Webroot Antivirus (my default is Avast), SpywareBlaster and Ad-Aware. Only Ad-Aware came up with results and quarantined some 125 (!) files. Hm, mostly nothing impressive.

Some remarkable things (but maybe I'm getting paranoid): I get bugged by Windows Update. My Anvir Taskmanager indicates that C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\netfxupdate.exe suddenly has become a start up item. Anvir also frowns at ctfmon as a start up item because it could be used by Family Keylogger. Anvir's explanation: 2. Status: Regular entry. When I have multiple browser windows open with Firefox and I close the first window that I opened, all other windows freeze and I have to shut them with process manager (can close them now with 1.01).

I'm assuming that it's connected with tabbed browsing but not sure if it can be fixed. I've never managed to get url links I click on to open in a new browser window which may be connected with this.

Any help would be appreciated

My problem: Multiple IE browser windows started opening automatically. So many were opening that it was preventing me from doing anything on my computer. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and made that my default browser. Now, multiple sessions of Firefox are opening. I removed Mozilla Firefox for the time being. I ran HJT (see log attached) but couldn't identify a problem. I also ran SuperAntiSpyware - no problems were found. My virus scan is also clean. I believe I've been hijacked but am having difficulty identifying a problem in the HJT log. PLEASE HELP!!!

Every time I open up multiple browser windows, the browsers freeze up on me. Never happened before. So I upgraded from IE version 5 to version 6, but it's still goin' on. I even tried the Windows OS upgrade, via the browser, to no avail.

Anyone encounter this problem, or rather, its solution?

Looks very clean. I thought that loading Firefox would help but it does the same thing when I made it the default browser. Also when trying to type a search in Google it will immediately be erased as you type. Cannot find any help on the web for this problem. I have a PC with windows 7 64bit installed and a pair of SSDs striped as the primary drive. Windows threw a wobbly the other day and said it couldn't load and it appeared to be linked to the RAID array somehow. It started working but ever since some programmes have had issues. The majority have been fixed with a reinstall of the software with error.

I still have one really annoying issue. Both IE9 and FireFox9 take an age to start. IE Loads up a browser but is unresponsive for a good 30 secs and Firefox doesn't even display a browser window for nearly a minute. Once a browser is open I can open a second window instantaneously. However, close all browser windows and it takes an age to re-open.

I have uninstalled Firefox, Norton Security, Java, Flash etc... and reinstalled them all but to no avail. I have also run a clean reboot disabling all non MS Services and startup applications. I have also run ccleaner and wiped everythings history, cache etc...

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Andrew

Hi
I?m using a little script to enter "add rule" to the firewall in Win 7

f.e.

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Firefox Updater" dir=out program="%ProgramFiles% (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\updater.exe" enable=yes profile=any action=allow

This works fine so far.
But if i start the script again, it will create the same rule AGAIN (with the same name and everything).

Can I prevent this? Maybe I need some unique identifier that prevents double entries?
Or should I better check - using some if/else commands - if a rule exists and if not add it (but how do i do THAT?).

I don?t want to create a lot of single script files, i just want to use one which i might extend with new entries if a new tool is coming along. I know this might not be the nicest solution for a security matter, but it?s fine for me :-)

Aside from that, if someone is doing the same thing or something similar, are you still using the batch cmd or are you on Power Shell?
Thanks a lot!

I recently installed Windows XP and all my programs on a new hard drive, as the old one would not boot. Last week I received a "Generic host process for Win32 services" error. My machine locked up, and I had to restart. Then I started having issues where Windows would not load or would take a very long time. I am able to start Windows in Safe Mode, but it takes much longer than it should.

Now sometimes when starting IE or Firefox or when surfing, new tabs are started on spammy webpages. Other times, IE or Firefox will not start. I also cannot go to the Windows Update site.

Neither Malwarebytes nor Avast find any instance of infection.

AVG says that it finds 6 infections and repairs 3. Just in case it would help, here is that part of the AVG log file:

I am constantly having redirects and new tabs spontaneously open to spammy websites in both IE and Firefox. I cannot get to Windows Update, it either says it can't connect or takes me to a fake search engine page. Windows is very slow to load at start, and after working for a little while, I tend to get Generic Host Process for Win32 Services errors, after which my machine locks up.

Malwarebytes has not found anything. AVG says it finds 6 infections and fixes 3. The infections are in svchost.exe, iexplorer.exe, and explorer.exe, where it says that a Trojan horse Agent_r.XJ Object was removed from each.

I do have access to my Windows XP Install disk.

Thanks so much for your help,

Last week I was playing Tom Clancy's: The Division when the game unexpectedly crashed. I reloaded the game, played for a few more minutes, and then my entire PC locked up and then crashed to a blue error screen with a face stating that "Windows has encountered an error and needs to restart". My PC then restarted, and the HP Omen X Logo screen came on stating "Attempting Recovery Repair". The screen then would cut to another blue error screen, and the whole process would start all over again. When it would do this it would give me three different error codes each time a blue screen would come up. The order appeared to be random. The three error codes I would recieve are: "0xc0000145"  "0xc0000142"  and "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED" Again, this process of switching between error screens and the HP logo "Attempting Recovery Repair" screen would loop for about 5 or 10 minutes before ending with a completely black screen. My PC will not boot in Safe Mode and Factory Restore from the HDD partition ends up going to the aforementioned error screen loop. I contacted HP about my situation and they have sent me USB recovery media unit. However, when I try to boot from the USB to do a clean install I am again met with the same error loop. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi -- All of a sudden multiple browser windows have started opening up spontaneously, like one every couple of seconds. I had to force the computer to shut down, because I couldn't get my task manager to come up, perhaps because the system was overwhelmed trying to open so many windows.

I ran AdAware (7 critical and 42 neglible), and Spybot found nothing. Here is a HJT log, just in case. Thank you, as always, for your help.

Source Multiple Browser Bundling With Windows Is Stupid

A recent article published at the Wall Street Journal suggests that EU officials are considering forcing Microsoft to include a bunch of web browsers into the operating system to dilute the advantage that Internet Explorer has so far. This could mean forcing Microsoft to add web browsers to the installation of the operating system or to offer the user a choice during installation to download and install another web browser.
This poses some interesting questions. Who decides which web browsers will be included? The list will probably include Firefox, the Google Browser, Safari and Opera. But what about other niche browsers? What if the makers of Lynx, Arachne or Sleipnir want their web browsers included as well? This opens Pandora?s Box and will confuse the average joe more than anything else. Many regular Windows users do not even know which version of the operating system they are running. How are they supposed to make a decision between 5, 10 or 20 of different web browsers that are included in the operating system?

Answer:Multiple Browser Bundling With Windows Is Stupid

Sounds kinda stupid if you ask me. Of course the other browser's will like it since they would get more exposure, but how much do you think this will add to the price of a OS?

Two separate issues..

*What makes IE7 "stop working" as much as it does?

*Sometimes when I click on a link..up to 36 browsers open at a time. Not just my PC, either. My wife gets this behavior on her HP at work, too.

They just open and stack on top of each other, wham wham wham.

Maybe I need to stick to FF2?.......

I am having trouble figuring out how to reset my Windows browser. I use a home made computer that runs Windows XP Pro...I have Internet Explorer 6...Anytime I am online and on a web page, if I want to open multiple web pages my original web page closes and the new one opens.
Even if I hit my explorer button on the task bar to open a second window at the same time ...it will ALWAYS close the first window. My browser will NOT let me open multiple windows at the same time! :-( I did not used to have this problem, and I do not know how to correct it, nor what caused it... I am sure it is something I can go change but not sure where that it is located...so if anyone knows I would be eternally grateful! honest Oh and I have even tried to reset my computer to a previous time when it worked fine and that did no good either...Help Please! Thanks, Dedee

Hey there, miracle workers.I am a Firefox user. IE opened when I viewed a file for work, and everything blew up from there. My printer was uninstalled and my computer started to reboot itself at random. I ran several virus scans. The automatic shut downs have lessened in frequency, but still occur from time to time. What is happening now is IE opening itself and opening several tabs, one after the other, which are usually directed to gambling sites. After a little research, I downloaded HiJackThis and tried to read my own results. This has been unsuccessful. I am hopeful that some kind soul here will take a look and help me. Hi All,
I have some quirky thing , rather ANOTHER, quirky thing going on with the new system. About a week ago my blue "e" icon disappeared from my desktop. Since then I haven't been able to open more than 1 browser window at a time. I don't have a clue what happened to the icon but realize it is probably something I unknowingly did myself. I have been all over the Microsoft site and can't find anything to address this issue. Of coures Win help is no help either... I have the feeling the two problems are directly related. Sure miss both functions and welcome any suggestions/fixes.
Thanks,
Jan

Answer:Can't open multiple Browser windows Win 2000

I don’t have Win2k but it works the same way in all the other MS OSs. Find Internet Explorer under programs in the Start menu. Right click on it and “Send to” the desktop. It will make a shortcut on the desktop with the blue E.

If you don’t like how it is named you can change it. Right click on the icon on the desktop and select “Rename”.

ok, i just changed my computer over from a old nforce2 mobo with an athlon xp in it to a ecs 755a2 and a athlon 64 3000+, they are the only things different, EVREYTHING else is the same, memory is pc2700+ 400mhz not dual channel, and the first time i booted it i went to bios and set it to failsafe defaults to be safe, and then tried to boot xp pro sp2 into safe mode. loading the system files, it stopped on mup.sys and stayed there for awhile, so i finally hard rebooted it and tried to start windows normally, the little white bar that loads before the gui comes up loaded fully and stopped.

so, i can't seem to start windows, and the last time i did this with my system i tried to just do a repair install of windows and ended up having to reformat because the files wouldn't copy (for what i assume was because the motherboard was set up for dual channel ddr when i wasn't using it, why i loaded failsafe this time and tried to boot windows without doing a repair install)

any suggestions on what i should do next? i don't want to end up screwing my harddrive up and end up making the same mistake twice. thanks in advance.

if u change a mobo and processor in a system you almost always have to reinstall. you can try a repair, but i haven't had good luck with those in similar situations

I swear by Netscape, but it's a bit long in the tooth and I now use Opera v 11 or IE v 8. There are a few things that Opera gives problems with, then I use IE. I still have Netscape 7.2 on my computer, because I make extensive use of the excellent email client which came bundled with it. It appears to be an integral part of the whole thing, and to the best of my knowledge can't be separated.

I have made Opera the default browser. That "honour" used to belong to Netscape. Now here's the problem:- if I click on a link from within Netscape Mail, it automatically defaults to the Netscape browser and then invariably freezes or crashes. How can I "isolate" the browser from the Email part of it?

I know many of you good folk will suggest nuking Netscape in its entirety and just use Outlook, but I know & Love Netscape Mail so well... Does anyone know a way to tell the Netscape browser to butt out and let Opera pick up the link? I've also thought of custom installing only the mail and not the browser. but I'm 99% sure you don't get to choose Btw I'm using XP home.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer:how do I prevent an unwanted browser picking up lnks?

Hi Larry,

Look in Folder Options>File type tab and make sure the following items are set for your default browser.
URL:File Transfer Protocol
URL:Gopher Protocol

URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol with Privacy

To open Folder options, at the top of any folder click Tools>Folder Options.
Highlight each item in the File types list.
Click the Advanced button.
Select Open in the list of actions and click the Edit button.
The "Application used to perform action:" line should point towards your default browser.

Thanks for listening, as my user name reflects I am now into stuff I'm ignorant about.

History.

Had this computer a little over a year, I7 with 16gb of memory, windows 7 ultimate. etc

About a month ago, started seeing BSOD's. The BSOD would normally reflect "Memory Management" as the cause. Then the browsers started crashing, tried chrome, firefox and IE. Have removed and re installed all of them. I continue to received "windows has recovered" screens.

Was reading this thread, attempted the memory test via CD, it ran for several hours (actually alowed it to run all night. When I went to bed it was on test 8, the errors were moving from 0 to 32767. I got up this morning, same numbers, same test #. Seemed like it was stuck on that run even though the error numbers were still changing.

I have down loaded and ran who crashed. It's conclusion is :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the... Read more

Answer:Browser crashes, windows crashes, memory test won't complete, BSOD

If Memtest86+ is showing up errors, then there are hardware issues present. It's just discerning what hardware is bad. Initial suspect obviously is memory, but the unusual case makes it think it's some logic error like some CPU failure or something. It's also possible that when burning it to CD that the Memtest itself got corrupted somehow (i.e. bad burn).

16 GB is a lot of memory on a consumer motherboard. There is the possibility that while your motherboard can handle 16GB of memory, that 16GB of the actual memory model that you're using may not be supported. Certain configurations of memory can have problematic issues. So while the memory sticks themselves may not be bad, the actual 16GB setup of them may break things.

Have you tested system stability with reduced amount of RAM, like 1/2 sticks of RAM, as well as running Memtest on a couple passes for each separate stick?

On irregular occasions both when using Thunderbird and Chrome, multiple windows open at once.
For example this morning when I wanted to write a new email, and tapped the 'write' item on the T-bird menu, 11 new message windows opened.
This also happens sometimes when I open a new tab in Chrome. I guess it happens about once a day on average.
I have run a virus scan using Avast and also run Malwarebytes, neither of which have detected anything out of the ordinary.
I am running Windows 10.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Hello,

I am running Windows 7 Prof x64. Recently, I have had a problem with multiple (sometimes 100+) internet browsers opening up automatically. This will happen even when I am not online. I have tried Firefox, Chrome and IE; all have the same problem. I have searched for malware, spyware, viruses and have come up clean. Ultimately, last night, I did a fresh install of Windows but as soon as I booted up for the 1st time the problem persisted! Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance!

Recently I discovered that windows update on my computer doesn't work anymore. When I tried to access Windows Update page , all I got is: "This webpage is not available." in google chrome. In Internet Explorer when I try the windows update link, the browser keeps closing and restarting with no success. If trying to google about this problem concerning windows update issues I also get the browser closing and restarting. Also no succes in Mozzila Firefox nor in Apple Safari. I tried all browsers with no success: windows update page is not working ( Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), neither is it possible to update form Windows, I just can't get updates to work no matter I do.

When I tried to run Combofix to see the results, the computer freezes and I need to shutdown and restart.
I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I didn't get any objects infected.
What advice can you give me?
Thanks in advance.

PS: also on this page in this post when I tried to paste the windows update adress(link) I could not post, I get "This webpage is not available." in chrome.
In Safari: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?”. The error is: “unknown error” (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10052)
And it is only because I pasted the adress of windows update site I could not post it no matter what browser I use.

I have 2 monitors in extended desktop mode and each one has a different wallpaper. I saved them as a theme but after a little while, they seem to switch witch screen they are on (monitor 1's wallpaper goes to monitor 2 and monitor 2's wallpaper goes to monitor 1). If I go back and reselect my theme, nothing happens so I have to select a different one and then reselect my theme for it to go back the way it should be. We frequently visit state websites to use their Java based permitting sites and are wondering if it is possible to set IE to switch between which Java version is used. Certain sites require older versions of Java to function, while others require newer ones.
We can have both versions installed, however IE seems to use the latest version automatically, so we end up uninstalling it when we need to download a permit on the site that requires the older version.
If there is an easy way to tell IE which version to use, please let us know. Thanks!!

Answer:Switching between multiple Java versions

I am looking for a way to have one simple page for viewers.
The tables contain monthly data going back multiple years (each column being a specific month & each row contains members contributions for each month).
Is there a way to (perhaps using infoboxes or such) enable the user to view the tables one year at a time (eg; 2013, 2014 each bringing up a different table) with the viewer remaining on the same page?

First timer here. Hoping somebody can help.

What I'm trying to do is toggle back & forth between two user profiles within Outlook while it's open and running (just as you're able to within Outlook Express).

Let me further explain...
1. I set up multiple user profiles for Outlook 2002. (Not a problem)

2. When starting Outlook it'll ask me to select a profile.
Then, Outlook will open the selected profile accordingly. (which is fine)
However, to be able to switch from one profile to the other
(e.g. - Switching from Profile A -to- Profile B),
I must close Outook, restart it, then select Profile B.

3. Summary: I don't want to have to close Outlook & restart it to switch
between multiple profiles.

Does anybody know if this is possible? If so I'm hoping you'll be kind enough to explain how to make this happen in an elementary like way so that I don't screw things up.

Thanks for any help you may be to provide.

Leonard

My problem is I need to have 2+ programs running that are normally a single instance only application. I've been trying to simply fast user switch and let them run in the background. I can log in fine on any of my accounts when it is my first log in (after boot) however; when I go to switch user it will bring me back to the account selection menu but it will claim I have a password for every account. This is not true as I created a few tests ones without a password and can be logged into fine on boot. It will display a password field however nothing works.. accounts that do have a password never work either regardless of the fact that the password is correct. I am running xp home sp 1, sp2 is not possible as I am on a 3200+ machine. Any suggestions?

My next train of thought is perhaps there is an easier way to run 2 programs which are designed to be single instance applications. Using run-as does not work and I can't seem to locate any resources on this front. Perhaps editing memory? I would give that a shot as I've done some basic editing to get odd things like this to work in the past but dealing with windows I have no idea where I'd start.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

We would like to be able to switch between Java version for web applications in Internet Explorer 10. Is there a way to do that?
Currently, we are specifically interested in 1.6.0_23 and 1.7.0_45
Other threads on this subject have been sparse and not helpful. 8-)
Thanks.

Answer:Switching between multiple Java versions

Hi,
the version attribute of the <script> tag is depreciated.
http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/html/elements/script
you use feature testing eg.
(element.feature)?'has feature':'does not have feature';
eg. (window.createElement)?'DOM 2':'Quirks';
or document.implementation.isSupported
(see prototype.js)
see modernizr.com (modernizr.js)
to determine browser capabilities.
you can use compatibility view x-ua meta to provide backwards compatibility in MSIE browsers for features that are not supported in your client browser.
Post questions about html, css and scripting to the IE web Development forum with a link to your website or a mashup.
Thx.

About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that my yahoo mail was not loading correctly.
Since then I have discovered that several websites will not load at all.

My wife's laptop with xp has no issues with the same sites.

Yahoo sites load partially displaying only text and text links.
While searching for remedies, I found yahoo answers that appeared like there might be useful information but could not get them to load either.

Two other example sites that do not load at all:
www.irs.gov
www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/the-world-isnt-such-a-bad-place

Firefox reports that they failed to load, Chrome reports that there was no data received.

I have Avast AV running, have tried clearing any and all rootkits. Tried Malware bytes, tried flushing the DNS cache. And as far as I can tell I am virus free yet nothing has helped.

I even tried looking up the IP address of irs.gov using nslookup and could not get any of the returned IP addresses to load.

I thought it may be a DNS issue, but I appear to be using reliable DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Any ideas as to what may be causing my system to refuse to download specific web sites?

Answer:Some sites will not load, some load partially, most are fine - browser independent

and welcome to the Forum

Will those sites open with IE?

I have always worked in Chrome. My work page won't load anymore, as of last week. I tried it in Internet Explorer, and then tried FireFox. Chrome and Internet Explorer both say the problem is with the site, not with my computer or my firewall. FireFox says the site may be busy and can't be contacted. Every other employee, including my husband's computer in the next room, can load this site.
I have tweaked my proxy settings to allow automatic connections. I have disabled Kaspersky and Ad Mucher. I have done three progressively early system restores, to times when I was able to load the web page. I have turned the computer on and off after each new fix I tried. Nothing has worked.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
I have some problem with my Intel Core 2 Duo CPU with 2k RAM, OS used is Windows Vista Ultimate 64.
My PC seems to crash every time when I try to load two or more webpages simultaneously while playing an online game in the other tab. I have been facing this issue only after I re-installed my Windows Vista after a format. Since then, I tried removing every odd software and kept it as plain as possible with just Avast Antivirus for protection.
This blue screen pops up showing some error and also "MULTIPLE_IRP_REQUEST_COMPLETED". Also, at the bottom of the screen, it shows that it is dumping physical memory.
It happens every now and then. Is something wrong with my Hard disk? It is brand new . Please help me resolve this issue.

Your anti virus program too.

If you have problems posting these things just ask me how to find it.

Good morning,About a month ago, my sister got a problem with her computer. It is an old Dell Dimension 3100 Desktop PC. Anyway, anytime she tries to boot the computer now, a blue screen comes up that says:''A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer''MULTIPLE IRP COMPLETE REQUESTS**STOP 0x00000044 (0x865c9030, 0x00000d63, 0x00000000, 0x0000000)The message suggests that the problem may be caused by new hardware or software, but my sister assured me she didn't try to install any. She just said she downloaded something out of LimeWire and then the computer went weird with messages from her Antivirus multiplying before the computer shut down.We tried booting in safe mode, but we get the same error screen.I have searched the Internet and most people suggest it is a problem with a driver that needs to be either downloaded or updated... but I don't know which one! Even if I knew, how I am supposed to do it without getting into Windows?Any help is greatly appreciated!

hello, im getting a Multiple_IRP_complete_request BSOD. Mostly after i boot up.
Windows Error Reporting says its caused by Kaspersky Anti-Virus. The problem is i dont have that Anti-Virus. I have AVG Anti-Virus. Any body know whats going on?

Answer:Multiple IRP complete request

I would suggest you check Add/Remove {rograms for Kasperky anyway - if you did an online scan or whatever the remnants may be causing the problem.

Also, look at their site for clues from other users;

http://www.kaspersky.com/support/kav6/install?qid=193239348

You might well be advised to run a HiJack This scan and post that here.

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude D630 model laptop that is having problems with memory dumps (BSOD). One thing I recently discovered is that it happens pretty consistantly when removing and returning to the docking station though I don't know why. As far as troubleshooting, so far I have ran the dell diagnostics which came back clean, I also tried to reinstall fresh windows. Then put a new hard drive and reinstalled windows again. Still no luck. The laptop is still under warranty so had Dell replace the physical memory and the motherboard this still didn't help.

Answer:Multiple IRP Complete Requests

If its still under warranty SEND IT BACK!!! Thats what the warranty is for.

I'm using a desktop computer, and all of a sudden out of the ordinary, I would get a BSOD saying "Multiple IRP Request Complete". The problem is that I use a Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adaptar for my internet connection, and now for the past 3-4 days, I'd get internet for like 1-5 mins everytime I restart my computer, reconnect to my router, unplug/replug usb/router, basically i'm get no internet. When I go to disable the connection, ex. right clicking local connection, disable etc. The BSOD will appear and restart, I have reinstalled the drivers for the USB many times, I reformated my computer twice, and I can't seem to find the reason why this happening. In the Event Viewer it's listed as a System error :

Hp laptop running WinXP w/SP2 stops loading at background screen. CTL-ALT-DEL works and seem to be able to run almost anything except explorer. When I browse to it, system says 'Windows cannot find "C:\windows\explorer.exe" '. Iexplorer works just fine, as does regedit, games, etc.

I even tried to use another copy of explorer on a USB stick and got the same error, even though other programs on the stick would work just fine, programs such as SIW.

I've run chkdsk /f and sfc / scannow to try and verify integrity of the system and both completed fine. I've run eventvwr and do not see any problems there.

I'm pretty well stumped and looking for some advice.

Thanks and Brgds

I have Vista Home Premium and an Intel Dual E6600 processor. When I am using bit torrent software (uTorrent) to download programs, it takes over most of the bandwidth. With having a dual processor, is it possible to assign a high priority for one processor to do the downloading and have the other allow me to surf normally? It takes a lot longer to load pages with the torrent software running.

Answer:How can I prevent prog downloading from taking over my browser speed?

" bit torrent software (uTorrent) "?

But aside from that, your processor doesn't determine your bandwidth. Your Internet connection does.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone can tell me how I can prevent users from deleting the browsing history or accessing it all together. Even if it required password access to deleting history, that would be fine as long as only I can have access to deletion.

Reason is because I have users who are denying they visit porn sites yet mysteriously I have porn pop ups on my pc even after I had them removed several times.

I think they are deleting History so I can't see if they visit or not.

Thanks in advance,

Falzzy

7 Browser Security Tests to Try Out and Prevent Exploit Attacks.

To draw a comparison, the internet is like the badlands of the Wild West. Full of opportunities but also a free-for-all, where you don’t know when the next attack is going to come from. The browser is one of the most vulnerable soft spots.
