IE Wont load (will load for other users using computer)

Question: IE Wont load (will load for other users using computer)

I am having trouble with internet explorer (the newest edition) When I try to open it, it opens up, my homepage wont load and everything becomes non responsive the tool bars, file menus, even the "x" to close the window wont work. It completely freezes up. Worse yet, other users on this computer are having no problem using internet explorer when they are logged on to their side of XP. Why is it that when im logged on to my user name on XP that internet explorer wont work? I need help quick as all my favourites are saved in IE and I need to access some pages very soon. Im using firefox right now, and absolutely hate it. Please help me.

Preferred Solution: IE Wont load (will load for other users using computer)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Wont Load Users...?

Try running System Restore.Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System restore. When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore. This may take a long time to complete, and when it is done it will restart your computer. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process. This will take a while, so be sure you have time to allow this to complete running.

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

Answer:Users are unable to load websites - no error, just 1-hour+ load times for pages

Hi there

fixing a friends pc and it had lots of trojans and spyware. Ran the usual cwshrdeer, spyboy s+d and even trojan hunter. He couldnt perform a scan using his trend micro.

The main problem i had was an (02 bho) that couldnt be fixed using hijack this-it kept reappring with a slightly altered name. and using sypbot it found 5 dso (?) in the rgeistry regarding timezones. every time i fixed and rebooted spybot found the same 5.
adaware found over 100 problems and trojan hunter found almost 150 trojans.

The problem thatw as reaccuring was on the taskbar it was an icon which kept popping a popup up saying your pc has been infected with spyware lick here for antivirus solutions - which i believe is a virsu in itself.

so i wanted to do a hijack this log for you to help me out but i bought his pc home withme, connected it all up and now it wont boot.

i cant run safe mode and when i boot to windows i get the xp loading splash screen but when it gets to the users list the monitor goes off and all i hear is the fan whirring.

if i cant get in how can i fix it???????

ive done a repair install using his xp disc but this hant done anything-still the same.

ive got the chance i can slave the drive to my pc but what good will this do in running any malware removal etc and surely i wont eb able to edit the registry!!
please help me guys n gals

Backstory (skip if you need)
I'm fixing someones laptop, It was slow and taking 30 minutes to startup, i did the usually virus scan and restarted, then it was stuck in an auto repair loop. I used a windows 8 Install CD from microscoft. None of the options in it would work, install (key doesnt match) reset (missing partition), image recovery (cant find an image), restore (no restore point), etc.

Used command prompt, did stuff like bootrec, bcdedit, diskpart, and chkdsk. After it ran chkdsk it finally loaded windows. I reset/reinstalled the OS completely. Fixed, restarted, running smooth. Owner said it was working great for a day, then after turning it back on it was in an auto repair loop.

Now
It's stuck in a preair loop, I can't even boot from the 8 CD! Have it configured in the bios, it shows the the blue windows logo then the screen goes black for 3 minutes and a blue screen flashes for 1 second saying  "Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. Collecting some info (0% complete) search online for error: 0x000021a"

The weird thing is, Windows 7 disks boot fine, but it's "not compatible". And if I physically remove the HDD, it will boot into the windows 8 CD. So I put the HDD back in (while still at the command prompt) and it wont take my commands in related to the C: . I get a "System cannot find the drive specified"

I also tried hooking upp the HDD to my PC SATA, it shows in explorer, but just right clicking it crashes explorer.exe. D... Read more

Answer:Windows wont load, Boot CD wont load, Automatic Repair Loop

UPDATE:

I got a windows 8.1 disk made and it allowed me yo boot from the CD, but it's SLOOOOW, it takes minutes to load reset or w.e (none of them still work), or open the command prompt.

I ran chkdsk /f /r /x but it didnt help. chkdsk /r ends with:
"A disk read error occurredcc0000185
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream."

Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.

Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull
/rebuildBCD - Total identified Windows installations: 0
/scanOS - Total identified Windows installations: 0

Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."

Next sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
Then sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows
"Windows resources protection didnt find integrity violations"

BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files

Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

Hi all, I am new to this forum & I am hoping you will be able to help me with a few problems I'm having with my PC.

This seems to be an intermittant problem but it happens more often than not.

When I boot up the pc no matter who's login i use (mine or the wifes) when the desktop loads, the taskbar down the bottom is frozen. When i move the mouse over it there is just a hour glass.

Also certain programs won't load up like I-tunes or the defrag yet when i go into processes the itunes exe is showing.

Internet explorer seems to work ok.

I have Avira anti-virus & I am using Adaware, Spybot & spywareguard.

My system details are:
Windows XP sp:3

Computer just turned off automatically today and it will not load past the begining load screen with the Alien Head load screen where you can press f2 and enter setup or f12 to boot options. I cannot load safe mode or remove the battery as it does not have any place to access it.
Windows 7. Alienware m14x.

Answer:Alienware Laptop wont load past Alien Head Load Screen

Any fans running, any post beeps? Your laptop does not have a CMOS battery. Try removing the chargeable battery and power adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in just the power adapter and try powering up the machine again.

I have a NB100 And when it trys to boot i get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

I have connected a DVD drive with the product recovery disc GMR400882EN0 inside it and powered on, on booting i keep F12 pressed and I get the options for setting it to boot from HD FDD CD/DVD USB Memory, I set it to boot from CD/DVD

When it loads it gets to loading RAM image I get Error 32768 File PEBASE ISO Could Not Load.

I am suspecting faulty recovery disc? and a new one is 29.99? But the laptop is under warranty but they told me to do this.

My daughter has a Asus 904HD and once she had a problem... She had none of the poor support of go and do it yourself... Asus sent a courier very fast-confirmed pick by text-fixed-delivered back confirmed drop off by text within 5 days!!

Answer:NB100 Recovery Disc wont load - Error 32768 File PEBASE could not load

>I am suspecting faulty recovery disc? and a new one is 29.99? But the laptop is under warranty but they told me to do this.

I doubt it?s a faulty recovery disk.
The error message: missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys could be caused by faulty HDD or another hardware component.
In your case I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP for hardware check and new OS installation. The notebook is under warranty (as you suggested in the posting above) and therefore everything should be done for free because it?s covered by warranty

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal.
First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly.
After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects. someone please help

Answer:windows 7 refuses to load and system repair wont load

Do a hardware/software reset with your BIOS:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

After doing those steps, clear your CMOS by entering the BIOS (see your system manual for steps to enter the BIOS), going to the EXIT screen, and loading setup/optimized defaults.

I do maintenance on my PC often like defrag when needed , disk cleanup and virus scans and use CCleaner often

Scanned for malware using Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware and found a few problems and took care of them

Any help with this problem would be great

Answer:Some Pages wont load at all and others load fine

Try running a ping to the sites that have trouble loading to see what kind of connection times you are looking at. I would also run a tracert to those sites to see if there are any places dropping the connection.

It appears that you have already posted a hijackthis log here. Please be patient while waiting for assistance. HJT Helpers are all volunteers regardless where you post a log. While waiting for a response, you should not ask for help elsewhere or make changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc.) Any modifications you make on your own can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the HJT Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you be patient while awaiting a reply and refrain from asking for help elsewhere. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the HJT Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. If you still need assistance after your log has been reviewed and you have been cleared, please start a new topic. Do you have more then 1 computer connected to your modem/router? If so, does this happen on them? If not, can you connect a separate one (ex: friend's laptop) to test?

Normally when you get errors like this it's best to rule out a problem at the modem/router and provider before going crazy over trying to fix a problem (that may not exist) on your PC(s).

Also just a couple of other questions:

Who is your internet provider (ISP)?
What connection type do they use (Cable/DSL/Fiber/Fixed Wireless/Mobile Wireless)?
What is the make and model of your router and modem?

When I start up my pc, I get a screen that says, "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully, a recent hardware or software change may have caused this, ….etc."
Then I am offered with a bunch of options to either:

1) Start in Safe Mode
2) Safe Mode with Networking
3) Safe Mode with Command Prompt
4) Start Windows Normally
5) Last Known Good Configuration

None of them work, the safe mode ones, show a bunch of lines of code as per normal when starting up safe mode, then it freezes and stops and eventually goes back to the screen mentioned above. Same for 4 and 5, windows blue loading bar screen comes up, then the screen turns black and nothing. After a few mins my computer restarts again and goes back to the screen mentioned above.

Prior to my computer not being able to restart/load windows. I had some pop up vundu trojans i was trying to remove. Did some research after about 5 hours finally removed it. A couple days after i started receiving "generic host process error" Something to do with explorer.exe program. So i ctrl + alt + del and explorer.exe was taking up 100 cpu usage. At this point i tried to minimize task manager and my computer froze up. I waited about an hour came back and still nothing so i manually turned off my computer and turned back on. I have a computer that will not load windows. I have just installed the os. I went through the blue screen part of the install fine. but when i restart the computer to go inti the other part of setup it goes to the loading screen and halts then there is a blank screen, the comp. never powers off, just stalls at the blank screen.

I heard it could be the hard drive but i ran diagnostics on it in a different comp. and everything was fine.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:computer wont load os

Can you get to safe mode? Tap f8 on boot to try. Look for a hardware conflict.

Next remove all hardware you can that you dont need, extra drives, sound card, network card and see if it boots. If it does, replace hardware until it does not, which tells you where the problem lies.

Question: Computer wont load

Specs:
Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Motherboard
Intel P4 3.6Ghz CPU
2GB Ram
700W PSU OCZ
Evga 7800GT GPU
80GB Hard Drive

Something strange is happening.

I was using my PC, everything was just fine. I shutdown, go to sleep, and the next morning when I turned my PC on, nothing booted. The GIGABYTE text showed up at the start and just froze there without loading any further.

I tried restarting a few times and with every restart, I heard a strange noise which occured only once after every boot up. I believe it came from the Hard Drive and sounded like a whirl noise of some sort.

That led me to believe that my HDD was dead.
This PC is fairly old so I decided to purchase a new Motherboard, CPU and larger HardDrive.

New Specs:
ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93Ghz E7500 CPU
160GB Hard Drive
-Memory and GPU left the same-

After putting in the new hardware and booting the PC up for the first time, sadly, the same thing. Strange noise from the new Hard Drive now, and nothing at all is showing up on the screen.

The monitor's standby orange light still glows and nothing loads. The Motherboards green LED light does light up, and everything seems to be running fine, however I cannot solve the mystery of why this PC doesn't load.

Please I need some assistance.

Thanks, Yuriy.

If you have a laptop there are some screws under it that house the internal memory of the drive. Once open you will see these little watch battery looking pieces. disconnect them and reinstall your operating system and it should work.

Answer:my computer wont load

In many cases this error has been generated by faulty RAM memory. So if you have just upgraded your computer with some new memory and you started getting this error then I would remove them and see if the error goes away. If it does then send the memory back and get a refund!http://www.updatexp.com/0xC0000005.html

Hi my laptop has stopped working. I don't mind so much but there are some music files and word files i would quite like. Basicly it goes as far as the windows black loading screen with the logo etc but then just does that and goes no further. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Answer:Computer wont load up

Your drive may be damaged. If you are computer hardware savy you can buy a external 2.5" hard drive case and mount your laptops hard drive into that and then be able access your data through USB communications to SATA or IDE depending on the type of hard drive your laptop has. Be sure that the system this device is to be plugged into has the latest antivirus to avoid spreading if it is viral.Other than that you can try the windows repair utility that is on the OEM CD that may have come with the laptop and perform a repair or restore ( without formatting ) which would rebuild Windows, but not touch your music etc. Also heard of people using Knoppix Linux Live CD to access data, but if you dont know Linux, then the first 2 ideas are better for you as for to get NTFS support is quite fun and manual.

Question: Computer wont load

Not sure which forum to post this in as not sure what the problem is.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro running Windows 7 SP1. It shut down due to Windows updates and when it booted up again it just hung on the Windows icon but wouldn't load. Eventually it asked if I wanted to run a repair which I did but it said it couldn't repair it.
Using F8 I found that I could boot into safe mode, and safe mode with Networking.
I ran the System Scan which said that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
I tried to do a restore to a previous point but it said I didn't have any points to restore to.
I then ran a CHKDSK which came back saying volume is clean but just hung for hours. I eventually forced a shutdown but now it wont load at all even in safe mode. When I try to load it, it just hangs whilst loading windows files.

What do I try next? Help.
(I also have no external drives or devices attached)

Answer:Computer wont load

As with many 'proprietary' built computers, you don't get a DVD of Windows ... which makes it near impossible to recover from disasters such as you are experiencing ... instead, you were expected to make your own 'recovery' disks. Your manual would/does tell you how.

If you don't have a set of recovery disks, then I can only advise contacting Toshiba, or, maybe install Linux.

Lets start from the beginning..this is the kids pc and it wouldn'r boot W2K stating something was missing (I can't remember what this was as I started trying to get this machine going over a month ago)...long story..erased the HD and was going to reload W2K. Would boot up far enough to say it couldnt read drive A. Went into BIOS and changed it to boot to CD only....starts to load and shuts down - then it won't power off.----> Sometimes it will power off to reboot and sometimes not. Once I actually got it to start booting windows to have it stop 1/3 of the way in. So I thought HD...they had a crappy 6.8 gb in there anyway. Replaced HD today added memory and I am still having the same problems. I am thinking power supply, motherboard or processor. Where do I start without feeding excessive money into this project and pulling all my hair out?

Question: Computer wont load

Hey i finally got annoyed last night and disk defragged my machine. All went well, switched it off after it was done.

However now it wont load up. It posts etc, gets to the windows splash screen then brings up the bit that says, Windows didnt shut down correctly, boot in safe mode, last know good settings or just boot up windows.

I have tried each option several times, but the damn thing wont booot up.

Any suggestions will be gratefull. If not then ima just go f-disk it and reinstall everything i guess.

my sisters computer is infested with viruses so i downloaded malwarebytes and mse and updated them, i changed her computer setting to safe mode and rebooted and was planning on trying to rid some of the viruses. now the computer lists all the drivers it's loading and freezes after it gets to drivers\CLASSPNP.sys
it sat there for about 10 minutes so i restarted it and it gave me the option to start windows normally, or in safe mode. if i choose the latter, i get the same problem as above. if i choose to start it normally, it lists all the drivers like before, gets to classpnp.sys, then goes to a black screen saying the computer is loading in safe mode with minmal services. then it goes to a black screen and just sits there. All i did really was change from normal startup to safe mode now i cant load windows or something. Anyone have an idea?

Hi there, am staying @ my parent's and looking after their house whilst theyre abroad. Yesterday I decided to have a little play on my dads computer which runs on windows xp, I installed the sims duluxe edition and the sims living it up and played on them for about 10mins. Everything was fine, shut down the computer etc. Today I went to turn it on and windows will not even load. The start-up screens come up and it says there was a power-failure could not start properly perhaps due to software/hardware changes. However it wont even start in safe mode, none of the options work the computer just reboots itself and goes back to the same screen. I think there was a power cut last night but am pretty sure its something to do with the game I installed. Please help, my dads going to kill me is I cant sort it out!

Hi there everyone hows it going? I was wondering if you guys may be able to help me with a computer problem I am having a little difficulty with my cousins computer. She gave it to me to repair. The problem is that the desktop won't seem to load up to the main screen, when I turn the computer on the screen is all black and it says press ctrl alt del to restart. Now what could be the problem. I think it needs to be reformated, maybe somehow the OS got removed and the hard drive is wiped out. So if anyone has any suggestions please post. Thank you.

Answer:Computer wont load please help

normally when it says press ctrl alt del to restart it will say something else, like a reason, like no ntlr, or no hard drive found etc. is there any more info you can provide. if formating is not a concern then go ahead and format away.

Answer:why wont my computer load up?

try to download malwarebyes antimalware and spybot search and destroy in safe mode ,and destroy and install them(in safe mode) if they wont install change their installing files to random names like s87rh54sf45.exe or 8wb57y6897.exe and install them and run them if they wont run, goto the place were you installed them and change their .exe file names to something random too and run them and scan with them and remove any viruses found. Then try to start in normal mode.If it wont start up after that buy a windows vista disc and repair your existing vista installation(it wont change your files and settings) or upgrade to win 7.

Have you tried booting into Last Known Good Configuration ?

-1. Turn on your computer

-2. Keep pressing the F8 key while it boots up to get the Boot Menu (Safe Mode, Last known good configuration, etc will be listed in it)

-3. Use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

See if that helps resolve your problem...

I think she was in her msconfig settings trying to stop messnger loading on startup, obviously she may have pressed something else? But anyway, now the computer just lags on startup and doesnt get past it... it just sits and waits...

Is there anyway to back up at a system restore point or put the msconfig settings back to default or anything?

Hello there,

It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.

Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:

1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.

4. Accept the Windows license agreement.

5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.

6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.

7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

Hey Everyone.

My dads computer has just stopped working for some reason. I can normally figure out why it doesnt work, but this time I cant..

So this is what i've done.

I've started up my dads computer, it goes to the black screen with "Safe mode" "Safe mode with networking" etc etc. I clicked the bottom one (Load micrsoft xp normally blah blah blah)

It gets to the start up screen, then it just restarts itself. I thought, huh. Lets try Last Known Config, but it restarts itself like I stated earlier. I then tried booting it in safe mode, and safe mode command prompt. It still doesnt work, but what I did notice, a blue screen with some writing pops up just before it restarts, but you can read it because it restarts after like a less than a second.
My dads computer is a Windows XP pro by the way.
Thanks everyone who helps me.

oh, btw. I can take a video of what happens if you guys want, if you cant figure it out. Thanks again.
Edit: sorry if this has been asked before.

I use an HP a720n and lately I've been having some problems.

A few days ago it started to make the noise that it makes when shutting down (maybe the hard drive stops spinning). It would do that several times and basicly freeze up. The mouse will still move but programs can't be opened.
Now it won't even boot up. An error message appears that says file windows/system32/config/system can't be loaded.

I run 2 250 gig Western Digital Hardrives and do a lot of video editing, but the external drives have there own power supply. A few months ago I installed an extra 512 stick of Kingston Ram, and it ran fine for months before it started recently acting up.

I ran an antivirus program on it and came up with nothing.

Could my hardrive have crapped out ?
PSU maybe?

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

2. Also on the COMPUTER MANAGEMENT, doesn't appear under volume but it does under disk management is the one call Disco 1, but cannot open it.

I also use the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics, told me have some bad sector, so I fix them, unplug and plug the USB and same error, wont load, sometimes wont even appear or the computer tells me need to format, I click on format (don't want to erased) and tells me the WD My Book is not connect it

Do you have the Windows XP disc for it, and does it contain any of the 3 service packs?

Did it come with Windows XP Home Edition or Professional or Media Center Edition?

Is the 25-character product key on its COA sticker readable?

On my roomates computer whenever she tries to laod a new page the url wont automaticaly load. For example if she wants to check her e-mail, after she types in her password it wont automaticaly direct her to her e-mail inbox. But instead a different screen pops up and reads something like "Internet Explorer cant automaticaly load new URL's, please check your browser settings" Exactly how do I change the browser settins? I already tried playing around with the internet options, but that didnt seem to fix the problem. Is there anything else I need to be doing?

Answer:My roomates computer wont load URL's

Hello Bug,

Sorry to hear about your Roomy's troubles. Several things she should do first just out of principle. Update definitions and run a complete virus scan. If any viral activity is found, post the name of the virus and the location of any uncleanable files. Download, update and run SpyBot Search and Destroy from the link in my sig. Be sure to close out all browser windows before doing the scan. You can also run adaware too as it sometimes will find things that SpyBot S&D won't. Once you've done all that, reboot the computer. Download Hijack This and post a HJT log for us to look at.

Edit: We may not find the problem by doing this, but at least we've eliminated a bunch of things from the list. So, lets give it a try!

Did you save the change in bios (confirm that the cd is the first device in the boot order)? If so, is your OS cd an original, retail version? Try a different BOOTABLE cd and see what happens.

Paul, welcome to TSF.

Can you confirm that it's the Dell load bar that gets stuck, and not the XP loading bar??
If it's the first Dell screen, then check the Diagnostic Lights on the back of the tower. There will be 4 circlular lights numbered 1 to 4, or lablled A to D. Check what sequence is (they should be all green for a normal working towers) and compare what they mean in this Troubleshooting guide:

I have run windows troubleshooter to check for errors but none are found. What could be causing this. I have posted on another site for help but I am getting slow answers and I want to get more or better feed back.

My computer crashed last night and failed a physical memory dump. It will no longer load appropriately, in that it takes 15 minutes to load safe mode or regular. It has a click then beep in a very consistent pattern. it is not rapid but consistent, this only occurs when trying to boot the computer. When I do get the computer to load in safe mode or regular it no longer shows my files, images, applications, and documents. Instead, it shows an NPR-User with basic factory style programs such as CTest. However, when I go into the start menu and click computer the hard drive shows the exact amount of free space as when i was using my computer before the crash. WIth advice from the other site I have created an ubuntu cd and selected the Try It option. It can not recover any files as it only shows the NPR-User and Ctest files. I am a college student, I dont do anything ridiculous with my laptop, I need it for school, and I need help.

Hi and welcome to TSF,

You have no backups at all?

You can try unhide it may be able to recover the files if hidden link below:
Unhide.exe - A introduction as to what this program does

Backup immediately if files are recovered.

If you go to the driver update pages for your toshiba on their website it may have an update for your hdd firmware.

Some seagate drives have suffered from this and update is all that is required to eliminate only known it on dell studio's tho.

You have checked the second hdd to see if any important data is on there?

So my girlfriend just updated windows xp this morning... since doing so, her computer wont load... it shows the 'windows failed to load' screen with the options to start in safe mode, last known good configuration, or start windows normally... i tried all 3 options to see if windows would load... but when it reboots, all 3 send me back to the exact same 'windows failed to load' screen with the same 3 options...

PLEASE HELP!

=(

Answer:After updating WinXP computer wont load

That's strange. Today 3 of the 4 cafeteria computers @ work (school distr) were updated, and now all 3 are bombarding the users with errors. Gotta love how MS updates just... work!

Have you tried booting from the Windows CD and doing a repair?

i have an intel core 2 e4400 2.0ghz proccesor, 3 (1)gig sticks of ram and an intel dg965wh board

I was recently trying to manually set memory timings and set the cas latency to three, originally five but later changed to four with no ill affects.
Restarted the computer and heard three beeps meaning a memory error, computer never loaded not even bios, then reset the bios by removing the battery. same issue, still hear the beep codes nothing loading

Answer:memory timings set to low, computer wont load

Just how did you change the memory timings? I checked the manual for that board and it says "No changeable options" under memory settings in the bios.

Have you tried to clear cmos with the clear jumper? If not, follow this procedure.
1 Unplug the pw cord from the pw supply
2 Hit the ON button 1-2 times [this removes any residual charge from the pw supply caps]
3 Clear cmos with the clear jumper for a min of 30sec
4 Replace jumper to keep position
5 Reinstall pw cord and pw ON system

My computer load windows, when i turn it on the nec screen flashes for a split second then it just goes to a screen with a flashing dash in the top left corner.
The only menu i can seem to access is the system setup screen if i press ctrl alt del then tap the f2 button.
I also cant find my windows disk (i bought my comp brand new about 5 years ago but i dont think it came with a disk)

I read that replacing the battery in side the pc could fix it, is this true?

Also i unplugged all unneccesary devices

cheers, Andrew

I built a computer from scratch and as I go to setup windows xp, it loads all the necessary files then says starting windows, still on the original blue set up screen. Then my system speaker sirens and the computer turns itself off. It does this over and over again and its not letting me load windows so I cant use the machine. I am building this for my parents business and have been working on it for weeks, it is killing me right now cause my parents need it badly. I thought it was the power supply, which is a 350W. I unplugged everything but my hard drive, cd rom, video card. Someone please help me asap!   :-/ :-/

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Hi all,

For a while in our house we were using only US Cellular Broadband connect, which is essentially a mobile 3G USB adapter. We uninstalled this from all the computers when we recently got Charter cable internet which is being broadcasted wirelessly with a Netgear cg3000d-rg. I know that the US Cellular broadband turns off wifi connectivity, but we made sure to uninstall all the drivers and software. We have 2 comps running XP and one Macbook, all able to connect to the new router. One Acer Aspire One is the holdout. It connected wirelessly fine before, but now will not work. It says it's "connected" and assigns an IP, but no matter what browser it will not load any webpages.

My computer has a virus on it called svchost.exe. My computer will boot and stuff normally and the "Welcome" screen comes on and it starts loading my background desktop and stuff and all of a sudden a box comes up saying "Personalizing Settings: C:// .... svchost.exe." Can someone help me?

Answer:Virus wont let my computer load past welcome screen!

Hi and welcome to TSF.

My name is Iain and I will be helping you clean your system.

svchost is usually a critical system file and must not be removed - however, it can become infected or copied elsewhere.

I'd like to see a log if possible, before doing anything else. Can you boot to Safe Mode?

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
Double click the exe file.
The program will begin to run, and perform an initial scan. If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan. Click No.
In any case, after the initial scan is complete, click on the Save button, and save the log file somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

Hello, I have a emachine w3052 and all of a sudden it just decides to stop working for me. Today i go and turn it on and all that comes up is the emachine logo and it doesn't go anywhere from there, doesn't load windows or anything. I haven't changed or touched anything so im wondering why would this just happen all of a sudden

Answer:Computer wont load after startup logo appears

Probably a bad boot sector or other startup windows file. Try to reboot hitting f8 keep hitting f8 till the menu comes up. Scroll up to last known good configuration and and hit enter. It will reboot and if your lucky fix it.

Hello everyone! I have a fairly big problem, or atleast I believe it is? I recently bought a used Gateway Computer. (It runs on windows vista service pack 2 & no disk came with it.) Everything was great for a week or so, until I started to watch netflix & received an error saying I need to uninstall Microsoft Silverlight & try to watch another movie so it could prompt reinstallation. I done as it suggested, but when the computer went to restart it wouldn't load past the windows screen. I shut it down & when it restarted I pressed F8 & went into safe mode w/networking. After some research I attempted system restore (starting at the last point before the update & ending with the last restore point I had available) but it didn't help at all...I then tried the "repair your computer" option from the F8 menu, but it loaded up to a blank square (instead of user profile) that said other user. I've tried all the users on the computer, but get the same error "the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." I had to remove the battery to get the computer to shut off, I had no other option. I started the computer in safe mode again & attempted the Gateway Recovery, but it restarted & took me back to the blank square page...The computer isn't apart of a domain, so I'm pretty much completely lost...Please someone, anyone help!

Answer:Gateway computer wont load normally, only in safe mode?

can you try running msconfig? Click the startup tab, and let us know what things are checked.

Hi

I have a LG R500 running windows Vista home premium it was also the originally installed OS and came pre installed on the system and has never been re-installed.
I belive it is 32 bit and is almost 3 years old and is running the factory power supply LG 90 W.
Im not sure about the CPU, Video card, or the motherboard.

What is going on is when I turn the computer on the microsoft Corp loading screen comes on then the blue screen of death (or at least that what I think it is) flashes for a split second to fast to read it then I go straight to Windows Error Recovery screen. If you try to start it up normally again the same error occurs. I have launched the startup repair and it tells me Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. So I have tried everything in the system recovery options except for the command prompt becasue I am unfamiliar with it. This error occurs in safe mode as well. I have not tried any of the other options except safe mode as I am unsure of them.

On another note I was having problems with the computer freezing prior to this but after a couple days of updating and virus scans I felt I had it fixed and seemed to be working properly for about a week. In this time windows was telling me I was having a problem with an intel driver and when I tried to download and intall the new driver as recomended by windows couldnt get it to work but seemed that the computer was fixed without it. Hi. I have a Abit-BE6 mobo and my computer crashed. I got a new hard drive and it isn't recognizing my new HDD. I got a Maxtor 200GB OEM. I have it as the slave and my floppy as master. I think that is ok but for some reason it isn't recognizing it. I Then attempted to put it as master and put it to the mobo without the floopy as slave. It recognized it but when it went to load windows it gave an error message that said something like that it couldn't read it or failure. It said i had no hard drive when i put it as slave, it wouldn't recognize it any where. I need the hard drive to load windows and get my computer running. It is also PATA/IDE. I also have no software so i don't know what to do. Please help, i want my computer running again!

Answer:My computer wont recognize my harddrive to load windows. Help!, please

lets start from does your MB bios support this large drive check with maker?
do you have a working hard drive with OS on it
try just booting like normal (remove new drive)
now if that works
make sure this older drive jumpers are set to master on first ide cable
make sec. drive slave on 2nd ide cable if you have a cdrom make that master
on 2nd ide cable.
after adding new drive watch boot screen should show the 2 drives
if not reboot go into bios see if you can forcr bios to recognize drive.

I have recently upgraded a home built computer with a new motherboard, memory and a CPU.When i pressed the power key, once the parts were put together, the computer starts for a few seconds then restarts. The screen stays blank and doesnt even get to bios and there are no system beeps to indicate a problem.I thourght there was not enough power getting to the system so i upgraded to a 1000W PSU. This did nothing unfortunately and the problem remained the same.I then cleared the CMOS but all this did was stop the computer from restarting. Now the computer powers up then dies, again without any system beeps or getting to bios. All the parts i purchased are compatible, although my memory needs a quad core processor to work (what i have) but im concerned that it is not being recognised.Any help is much appreciated.

Answer:New Home Built Computer Wont Load to Bios

Disconnect all unnecessary hardware like CD/DVDs extra hard disks or PCI cards then try to start.Does it beep at all? There usually is one beep. If not, remove all but one stick of RAM, if no different remove all RAM.Have you checked the manufacturers website to make sure the CPU will be recognised by the BIOS version that is running on the motherboard? You need to get it to the POST screen to make sure the CPU is named correctly.

Answer:Computer Wont Load up frozen start up screen RAM problem

Hi sorry you seem to have a poor impression of techs lets hope we can help you and possibly change that, 2 things come to mind, the slot is bad ie damaged in some way or the ram is,when you tested the ram in the slot did you try only 1 stick, try 1 of the others in it if it works ok then it is the ram that is the problem,if not then it is the slot, you can run with 1 less stick of ram, also check that the ram all matches as this would throw up a similar problem

My Medion PC running Windows XP loads past the windows loading screen then simply goes black but the computer is still on and the screen is still active. My dual boot of Ubuntu works perfectly as does safe mode. Ive had this issue for a while but it used to turn on after i rebooted it but now it only turns on occasionally. Also I'm almost certain its got nothing to do with my hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Caught Antivirus 2010 Malware. Thought I successfuly removed it using malwarebytes, now when i turn on my pc it loads like normal and as soon as desktop wallpaper shows it starts shutting down. But then redirects to windows login screen. When I click on my user profile login it goes to desktop but shows nothing but the wallpaper and is totally unresponsive. Safe mode will not load. And if its any help, when it redirects me to the login screen after loading; where the word shutdown should be next to the power button icon is instead my computers name... please help.

Answer:Antivirus 2010 Malware removed now computer wont load

Correction::: where the word(s) "Turn Off Computer" are not shutdown.

for eg: ebay i can go to the website search it all but click on the sign in and it just wont load.
there are other web pages which just wont load at all and just get the load thing and a blank screen.. and then time out.

I dont know alot about computers so please bare with me. I deleted alot of old programs (such as games etc) which I do not use anymore, *through the control panel add/remove programs*, then did a virus scan, and deleted what was found, and decided to go to www.microsoft.com and get the sp3.. after I installed, when I restarted my computer later, it gave me a black screen saying that it was shut down unexpectedly, and offers safe modes, last good config, and start normally, I have tried all three options, with safe mode, it freezes the computer, with the other two, it boots to the windows logo screen, then it will restart the entire system. Is there any way to fix this? I did not get windows disks or anything like that when I bought the computer, I did create recovery disks, but have since lost one of them, so they aren't much help.

Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] computer wont load past windows logo screen

lickitysplit87,

It's going to be difficlt without the XP CD, as that has the Recovery Console that we need in order to get your computer past the logo screen and into the OS.

Have a read here. If you feel confident that you can get the ISO burnt to disk, come back and we'll continue.
