Can't bring up new pages

Question: Can't bring up new pages

I can connect and maintain a strong connection(56K phone line) but have a hard time bringing up a new page or pictures on a page. I ran AVG and there is one virus I can't get rid of. It is a "Trojan horse Downloader.Agent.3.AP" and is found in C:\Documents and Settings\Jacqui Rizzo\Application Data\hgv?e.exe. When I look for the file in the specified area, it is not there. I run AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Spyware blaster, and Spyware guard. According to my last HJT log, it was clean. Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Can't bring up new pages

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't bring up new pages

Hi again odm......of course, that log was about six weeks ago and anything may have happened since then.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

I am running an HP Pavillion TS 11 Notebook PC with Windows 8.1 with AMD A6-1450. I am connected through my WIFI internet, but cannot bring up any web pages. My ISP tried everything, but my other computers in the house all have no problem. I was in the process of downloading a new version of Norton. It said it removed the old version but could not connect to download the new version. I closed the Windows Firewall.

The computer is only a few years old and was the fast reliable one in the house. Sometime after a scan by PC tools, which I did regularily, it became slow to respond in bringing up pages. The little blue circle would just spin on the screen. If you were on a page and hit a link, it again would be slow or not even respond to that click of the link. AVG shows no viruses, Malware Bytes Anti -Malware shows nothing, I've defragged and run CC Cleaner and it doesn't seem any better. I also did a system restore to before that last scan. It's an HP with AMD Athlon running windows 7 with 4.0 GB of RAM. Thanks

Answer:Computer has suddenly become slow to bring up pages, sometime does nothing

1) If you are talking about the "registry cleaner" in PC Tools you are doing more harm than good.2) CCleaner is an essentially benign utility that has absolutely no effect on computer performance.3) Contrary to the title of the thread it sounds as though your only issue is with the web browser and not the computer in general, is that correct? If so, have you tried a different browser just as a test? If not, please do so.

For some reason every shortcut on my desktop opens up to a mini screen size. In other words, I can see most of my wallpaper behind it and the page doesn't fill the screen like it should. I have done this before and I don't remember exactly how I brought things back to normal. I can manually adjust the page by dragging the double-sided arrows to the top and the bottom of my frame, but this is only a temporary fix. I can't get it to stay in the size it needs to be. Once I make one page the right size, I can continue opening up more tabs with new pages and they all come up normal (like the first page I opened and manually fixed). However, once I close them up they no longer come back in the correct size. What is the trick?

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.
My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.
System details:
Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor
A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:
Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates
As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:
However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

So earlier today I noticed there was some issue with a lot of pages load pages loading up for me. FOR EXAMPLE.... A lot of pictures (not all)
Appear distorted like so:
In this other image you can see a page loading the HTML code
In an attempt to work this out myself, I updated my java and adobe flash shockwave to it's newest settings. But yeah.... this is where I'm at. Any help would be awesome.
I don't think this is a graphic card issue, as this is actually happening on all my computers.
I'm using the most current up to date firefox.

For the last few days I have been getting some odd behavior when I try to access my accounts on several websites. When I access the legitimate website and try to log in, I am redirected to a phishing page which asks for account information, including credit card numbers, ATM Pin, etc.

There was one other post I found here that had what appeats to be the same problem, but I have not been able to successfully remove the issue myself from following the help you provided to him. (

Using OTScanIT and modifying slightly the fix script provided to the other user I was able to briefly get my Ebay account working again, but when I tried to access my bank account (Wells Fargo) I am now being redirected to the fake page again. I'm not sure what information it would be helpful to include here to help analyze what is going on. I recall having had this same problem once on another computer which is no longer experiencing the issue, but don't know what exactly I did to resolve it other than installing Avast and running a full clean (which I cannot do here, as this is a work computer that will not allow me to replace the existing virus scanning software). I do have limited installation capabilities on this machine, and have installed HijackThis and OTScanIT as well as Malwarebytes to aid in resolving this.

Please let me know what if anything I can do to fix this situation, including... Read more

Hi guys ( and girls )

I have an Acer Asspire 5332 running Vista.

A month or so ago the CD/DVD rom stopped working. Device Manager states it is unable to start and updating driver/uninstalling device etc does nothing either, other than recognise the drive as "standard cd rom" whereas it is actually a dvd rewriter. Acer tech support say that windows should pick up the driver automatically and cannot understand what the problem is. They do not provde a driver for the cd/dvd unit.

Then, in the last 2 weeks, certain web pages have failed to open, namely Hotmail and Facebook. All I get is a blank page with no error message Also videos on all sites intermittently work and don't work, saying I need to install Javascript which I already have! I have done all the usual checks and fixes ( internet options / javascript uninstall reinstall etc, as well as un-installing internet explorer itself.

Using another browser ( Safari ) opens up all pages including Hotmail and Facebook fine, but I still get the issue with the videos.

Does this sound like a virus? I have run Avast scan, and Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner. I am posting a "Hijack this log" for any braniancs to look over. Not sure if it is one problem, or several but doing my head in !!!

thanks in advance,

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

hello all

i have started noticing "hijacked pages,"

and that (so far, only when using "chrome," which is outdated - NOT by choice but because i am stuck with windows vista and GOOGLE will not longer support it...),

sometimes chrome will "hang" when attempting to perform operations such as "clear browsing data,

and then if i attempt to close chrome, it will make it so that system processes(?) such as my toolbar, ctrl+alt+del/task mgr, and restart will not work, forcing me to need to manually power off my computer,

and now as of today, most pages are not loading ("err_connection_failed" in chrome, but ALSO IN FIREFOX a lot of pictures in pages are not loading),

so i fear i have malware...

okay, here is the sysinfo readout:

Hi all,

I seem to be having this weird issue whereby after an extended period of browsing in Firefox/Opera/IE, when opening a page the following will happen:

As you can see, the tab shows the page as still trying to load, yet in the status bar at the bottom, it shows the page as 'Done' or sometimes even 'Stopped'.

This immobilises my internet use and eventually all browsers will do the same, also it's worth noting that once this happens, firefox.exe becomes impossible to close (even via Task Manager > End Process).
Although programs such as uTorrent and Thunderbird still work.

This happens on two computers (one PC - x64, one laptop - x86) on the same network (both running vista and ZoneAlarm Pro), yet a third one running XP and ZoneAlarm Free and a fourth running Vista x64 and Comodo have so far never had this issue.

The weird thing is that the laptop used to be fine until we upgraded our broadband to 10mb.

My main thoughts are:
- Java, although I doubt it, I've done enough reinstalls to ensure it wasnt this.

- Modem, the modem we have is very old (motorola surfboard) and I'm unsure whether it's causing the issue (DNS cutout). Yet surely the other pc's would be affected?

- ZoneAlarm Pro, this seems like a very viable option, however so many people use this with no issues whatsoever, can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks all for the help!

PS: I have run countless adware/spyware/virus scans

Answer:Internet shows pages as 'Done' or 'Stopped' when pages arent loaded..

Weirest part is this is happening to two PCs, and likelyhood of being same issue with the OS is remote as two differing versions of the OS in x64 and x86 are in use, plus why only after extended periods of internet use.

But my thoughts are

Well while you have uninstalled and re-installed likely the latest version did you also remove all components of older versions of Java as they are not rollup/update packages, each one installs a fresh version of Java, so some PCs coudl well have 3 or more versions installed at once, which one of "may" cause a conflict.

So run this JavaRA and allow it to uninstall all older versions, it also gets to the left over dlls and files that the offical uninstaller misses.

True, but also wondering if you have updated your package to a new speed, could be possible you need to reset the model and or router and re-enter the connection details or check with ISP that you dont have to change any settings. The ISP should also be able to test your connection, give them a call when this happens, so they can test it when its not working.

I have tried everything, I delted cookies, temporary files, I told my browser to dump all the temp files when closing...
I can not open files like gmail, without first deleting all the cookies and temp files, EVERYTIME. I tried following a link to aol, and I get a blank screen with the "done" on the bottom.
I went into a web based program that stores data and then generates things like adoption reports and I can access the report OR print it, it just stops and goes no further.

I am crippled by this, I am on gmail DAILY, please tell me what else to do, somebody told me to delete host files or search for them ??????? IDK

By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.

Whe printing multiple copies from Word 2003, (SP-3) Service Pack 3, all pages come out of the printer blank. This happens on my Canon Imageclass MF5550 printer but not on my HP 8100 inkjet. I called Canon tech support and they had me print from Wordpad and since it worked they said it's not their problem.

I've pasted SysInfo below.
Whenever I enter a search on, new malware search results show up.
Sometimes clicking on a link I want to get to opens up a new browser tab that I didn't ask for. Sometimes this happens even when clicking on any random space on the page, not even on a link.
The other day I opened Youtube and there were all these new Youtube videos showing up on my home page in another language that I had no interest in.
Someone else uses this computer once in a while and I think they may not be aware of what links and downloads to avoid.
I'm usually using Google Chrome.
Anyway, please help! This has been going on for a while but it's really interfering work now.

Ok forewarned this is a high level problem.

So I had a problem with IE where it wasnt storing pages in history, I closed all my IE windows, and using ccleaner wiped the history file (I assume was corrupt) and that fixed that problem, but I made a new one, info as follows.

I normally on IE my first IE window has about 15 or so tabs loaded, which I use as reference points, for whatever reason I didnt bookmark these tabs but simply they were always loaded in the firs tIE windows after reboots etc. so basically on reboots I would close this IE windows last, and on the first IE window after reboot I would select "reopen last browsing session" from the menu to recover these tabs understood so far? What I did with ccleaner wiped this session, and those pages had hugely important info to me in them.

I have no system restore point to get it back.

I do have a norton recovery image 10 days old.

Now the new problem.

Norton recovery images are made with the system running, almost certianly I had IE open at the time. So there is no me importing IE files, starting IE and simply selecting "reopen last browsing session" as when norton did its image IE was running. So this leaves what?

The crash recovery data, when IE is running it stores data on whats currently open incase it crashes and so can recover.

In the image I have mounted there is the following folder. (Q drive)

Q:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery

Inside it is various dat... Read more

Answer:importing IE9 recovery pages to get loaded pages back

Ok I have done it, here is how.

IE prepends its recovery files with 'RecoveryStore.'

and each session file is named like this '{9AC84612-1C85-11E3-AF5A-001B213DE643}.dat'
So a recovery file is like this 'RecoveryStore.{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}.dat'

When IE is running it has a registry key matching the name at 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active'
The key is without the prepend and file extension so such as '{7ACE6B97-256F-11E3-96B2-001B213DE643}'

If IE closes down successful the key is deleted from the registry.
If it crashes the key still exists, so on startup IE checks for the key and loads the associated .dat file to recover tabs.

So I have them recovered luckily.

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

I have never met a group of people collectively, who have as much knowledge as I have here.

Which leads me to ask, can we just all focus and together, come to a conclusion concerning a very nice security setup, that would be lite and very secure.

Lets pick one of each below (these are just examples, but you catch my drift right)...

A security suite or firewall and anti-virus (free or paid).

One malware on demand scanners (free or paid)

One whitelist (free or paid)

One anti-exe (free or paid).

I bought a glow-in-the-dark keyboard a few weeks ago. The paper they referred to as an owner's manual said to delete the previous keyboard drivers to avoid conflict. I was wary of doing that, and I also did not know how to do it. I was expecting a simple plug n play, but of course nothing is simple with this stuff. When I first tried to use the new board, Windows would freeze up, but I kept at it till I found a way to make it work. I've been leaving the little cd that came with the new keyboard in the drive. When I power on it says 'no keyboard' found. Then I reload the drivers for the new keyboard, the computer reboots itself, and it's been working for quite a while that way. I know it isn't the proper way, but it's been working so I've put up with having to reload the new drivers every day. Today Windows started freezing up again even after I reloaded the new drivers when it gets to the place where I select which user name to use. That's the way it was doing before I found a way around it. I think it must all have begun when there was some sort of fatal error in Windows this morning. I looked at the screen just as an error box faded away and XP started shutting itself down. I didn't see the error message. So I'm writing to ask how do I remove the drivers for this old keyboard, and after that is done, and I reload the new drivers again, will the reloaded drivers be permanent? Thank you.

A laptop running XP and uses dial up, shows that it is connected but will not bring up a web page. The initial home page does not come up, and when we type in the web addy, it doesn't come up as well.

Any idea what could be the problem? Could it be something to do with the DNS? Just guessing here.

I have switched ISPs, switched from IE to Netscape, reloaded my modem drivers, played with buffers - switched off and changed settings. I have gone to DOS and used PING. This problem has been going on for about a week. A few days ago I got 80% lost using PING, now I get 100% lost.

My ISP is OK, since my laptop works fine. My desk unit which is having the problem is Intel 350 Pent II with 64 MG ram and Windows 98.

I am working on this computer and he has McAfee, ThreatFire, ParetoLogic and Speedy PC. We were having trouble with going to windows live, but your website helped with that, but I still can't load McAfee. It shows up running in the task mgr., but when I click on the icon it acts like it is going to come up, but doesn't. Down on the right side of the taskbar where the active programs are there is the McAfee symbol. When I right or left click nothing happens. He is running Vista Home Basic on his Acer. I downloaded Prevx and Malwarebytes had found malware and removed it. Paid some guy online $35.00 to help me fix problems, but he knew about as much as me and did a system restore and removed the above Prevx & Malwarebytes. I have tried disabiling the UAC and other stuff, but to no avail. I have spent 2 days on this and I am getting really frustrated. This computer is in Spanish which I can read some and the keyboard is also. I keep changing the language and it keeps changing back. I have a feeling that the McAfee has expired, but it still shoud come up. Oh yeah, the security center shows that there is no anti-virus software installed. One more thing...The ThreatFire has 2 screens that come is a map and the other is about security and I can't close the windows unless I reboot. Also, I am having a hard time being able to read the letter verification. Thanks for any help you all can give me!

Answer:Can't bring up McAfee

McAfee and ThreatFire are both anti-virus programs and shouldn't be installed and running at the same time.

Those other cleaner/booster/optimizer/tuneup programs are basically useless and will do little to nothing to improve speed or performance. What they can do is break programs and damage the operating system.

Hi all. I have ThinkPad T520, and I wanted a USB 3.0 port. I found out that there is a dock station 4338-35 which has one. I was naive enough to believe that the docking station has its own USB 3.0 controller, so I've bought it. So yep, now I have lots of USB 2.0 ports, and no USB 3.0 port, because my laptop doesn't have USB 3.0 controller. Awful sad. How naive. Let me be a bit more naive and ask: is it possible to upgrade T520 somehow, and get USB 3.0 controller on it? Or, is USB controller built into the chipset so it's not possible? Thanks.

Hi there

This "update in place" mechanism is a PAIN if it fails during the process -- this means you actually have to restore the previous image of your OS (if you have one), remedy the error and start again.

Mine failed because I was nearly out of HDD space for the OS so it ran out of space. OK I restored the OS from an image, used GPARTED to increase the partition size and then OK started again. OK this time.

Now in the "REAL WORLD" there will be many people who could be rendered with an inoperative computer if the update in place fails and there isn't an automatic roll back or the roll back fails. Some people (probably MOST who aren't on these forums) STILL don't take regular reliable backups !!! - Idiotic I know but true. !!

Having an ISO would eliminate a lot of this - just wipe your HDD and install clean -- what's wrong with that idea.

(I know currently there are some get around's on this (Kari's tutorial for example) but the average user won't do that of course).cre

The update in place is a DOG on VM's too - probably worse than on a REAL machine - especially if you run out of HDD (Virtual) disk space for the OS. You need to backup the image of the VM, Create a NEW VM and then restore it !!. You can't just image the OS or copy the Virtual Disk files.

Answer:Ms PLEASE bring back ISO's again

Good idea to have the option of this to download it

The only problem is would this work ok for the average user, I cant see many wanting to download an ISO, clean install and then install/setup all their apps again

IMO, the in place upgrades/updates as they are now are best for the average user, for more technical the ISO could be offered

Question: Bring back pop up

The original issue for one of my users was she was getting a message on a certain webpage that said "To display this webpage correctly you need to download and install the following components: Java Virtual Machine"

The options on this box were to download or cancel. When you hit download, it would take you out to the java site in a different window and it would load the original screen one button at a time as you kept hitting download. Now I think I know how to fix this, but one of our level 1 techs decided to check the box that said 'Never download any of these components'. So now it appears this webpage doesn't want to downlod java components anymore.

Does anyone know how to get this pop up back after he checked that box? I feel like I've tried everything in the security settings and the advanced tab. She's got IE6SP1 on a 2000 machine.

Also to note: I actually reverted back to IE5.5 and the webpage worked fine, but when I upgraded to IE6SP1 again it gave us the same screen with red x's all over the place. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello again, MG's best people::-D

I am having trouble bringing my desktop PC out of 'Stand By'.
I rarely used this function, for several idiosyncratic reasons, but now I'd like to be able to do it. Unfortunately, the PC has other ideas about this decision.:confused

It seems like a hardware problem, so I stuck this post in here; but it may be an OS issue and belongs under 'Software'....

I go to Start > Turn Off Computer > and then hit the 'Stand By' button. The PC and monitor shut down like it is really turned off, except the little blue light behind the button (where you boot-up the machine) is 'on'. The machine does not purr or make much noise. That's what I thought it was supposed to do.....

Okay. So now, when I jiggle the mouse, or hit 'enter' or hit the space bar, I am waiting for the PC to come back on, which it seems to be trying to do. The machine starts to purr a little, but there is no great humming and the monitor stays black. I can't get it up and running, or even out of this state that I am now cornered in.:cry

The only way to go at this point is to press that button that normally boots up the rig, and has a little blue light on behind it, and hold it down until the machine manually shuts down. Then I gotta re-boot it back up again.

Is this something someone knows how to fix in a simple way ?? I'm no experienced officer, so the ... Read more

"In an instant message chat, Microsoft has told the Windows Featured Communities that the demand for Windows Vista Beta 2 has been overwhelming. It is, in fact, the largest downloaded software in history. Currently, they are serving product keys out ten times faster then the downloads can be served. In fact, they are pumping out bits as fast as they can - any faster and there would be a measurable impact on the internet. In fact, I quote a Microsoft representive:

"So, we are literally saying that if we increased our bandwidth any further there's a possibilty of taking down the Internet - people might have problems with World Cup viewing, etc"

People who have recieved Vista Beta 2 product keys, but are unable to download, may need to wait a few days, up to one week. Microsoft encoruages users who want to try out Windows Vista Beta 2 to order the DVD. When they recieve the DVD in 1-4 weeks, install it, and activate it, they will be automattically guaranteed an RC1 upgrade."

this info was taken from

i was wondering hwo this would happen how couls so many people DL vista and MS expanding there bandwidth "bring down the internet"??

Answer:bring down the internet?

the only way i could see it is there basicaly being a traffic jam, i'm willing to bet they're sending one out to every single backbone carrier, ISP, everything, they're uploading to the net as fast as they can, and probably every router within so many hops has seen vista go thru so many times, its all hogging up bandwidth more than they've seen before. Basically all the routers and ISPs that are shoving this out is causing everyone else's traffic, mainly the vista downloaders and probably microsoft web site browsers are experiencing it the most, but since vista is taking up so much bandwidth its causing everyone else's internet to be slow. I actualy havent noticed much a difference, mines always slow, **PUKE FOR DIALUP**

The new folder is being put into the "Default save location". You can find out which folder this is by clicking on the link above that says "# locations".

Or, back out of the Documents library and then right-click the Documents library itself and choose Properties.

Currently living/working in our RV while we are looking for a new home. Most RV parks have WiFi which works for my purpose IF I am outside. Once I step into the RV it is like stepping into a Faraday cage, i.e., the signal strength drops to almost useless levels.

What I'd like to be able to do is grab the signal (maybe a Ubiquiti?), get the park's IP address. Feed that into a existing WRT54G (as if it was connected to the WAN) via CAT-5 cable which would then be my "inside" WiFi. I know I don't want a repeater because I will lose bandwidth. Looks like I want to do a bridge (client?) but am not sure what to get for the initial signal grab.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments, welcome.

Or am I completely nuts and just need to get a rainsuit and an umbrella and work outside?

Answer:Best way to bring Wifi into RV?

you could mount a wi - fi anteena out side or on top of the R V if You Know How ?? then run the cable to your pc / laptop

As of late, my AD-AWARE and SPYBOT scans have been relatively clean. Then... this morning, for the first time in several weeks I fired up AIM and when I did a scan late tonite it found all kinds of stuff, Wupdater, Newnet among others.

Is AIM the likely culprit of these programs? I use OPERA as my browser and since making the switch to it have had hardly any spyware. AIM seems to open up IE for any of it's updates, games etc.... I was just curious about AIM contributing to this new spyware I found on my system.

When I'm instructed to bring up a graphic by clicking on hypertext I get, instead, first a quick flash of an image that appears to be the requested picture. But it disappears so quickly that about all I get to see is a fleeting glimpse of the rectangular outline of it before it is gone and is immediately replaced by a round, red circle with a diagonal through the middle (no entry icon found on some street or road signs, etc., common in Europe) as it reverts back to the original scene where I started. I have checked my Security settings and can't find anything that appears to be out of line. I am using IE 6.0 and my OS is Win XP Pro.

Here is my list so far. I plan on playing Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim and Arma2 including some retro emulators such as Project64. I want this rig to be less then 600usd and was wondering if there was anything you guys thought would be better to change. I have an optical drive I can take from my current dell and I think we have Windows somewhere in a flash drive. Do I need windows 7 to play these games or just Steam? I dont need a monitor or keyboard or mouse. I have a Samsung 32in TV that I use as a monitor.

Cooling Fan:
Video Card:
Power Supply:

Right now it seems like this will come to over 600usd. I wanted a good processor and video card so that games wont lag and will be a good fps. I will likely play at the medium setting mostly, but may use high as well for games like skyrim. My dad knows computers moderately well and could help me with installing everything correctly.

Answer:How can I bring the cost of this rig to under $600

I've just added everything to my shopping cart, including the Hyper 212 which was only $5 more at Newegg. It looks to be a total cost of $620 for everything listed. I did notice one thing, AMD recommends a 500W PSU with the HD 7850, the list has a 450W PSU chosen. Other than the 250GB drive, everything else looks good to me. I personally wouldn't spend $60 on a 250GB HDD. For $25 more you could have 4 times the capacity. I know you are looking to save a buck or two but sometimes shortcuts have too high a cost.

Now I tried hooking my tv up this way for the **** of it, and the computer screen projected onto the tv. now i need to do the opposite. I need the vhs from the player to project onto my monitor. You should be able to do it by just opening two windows in IE.

But, I would like to recommend getting firefox from, that program allows for tabbed browsing which will allow you to have multiple sites open in the same window.

Then if I leave the computer and it turns off, I am required to log in again The same with Yahoo and any log in site I have.   I feel that there is a setting somewhere that I need to adjust but don't have a clue as to where.Thanks.drhck

Answer:Problems with startup pages and blank pages

This is not a direct answer. This is a suggestion about how to isolation the problem.Go into the Windows control panel and select the users. Create a new user with the same privilege level. Then log off and log into the new user. Now inside the new user, open Firefox and go to the Google web site. Do not log in. do not make a new account. You do not have to log into Google to use it. Try it also with other browsers and other web sites. Most general purpose web sites do not require you to log in. It is up to you. Limit yourself to how many sites your med to log into to use.Does that help any?

Hi there,

When converting a Word 2003 file to PDF, the PDF version doesn't match the Word version; on several pages, the text on the PDF version seems to have skipped a line. This is the case with several PDF converters. Is there any way you guys can help me? That would be great!

Answer:Word pages do not match PDF pages after conversion to PDF

I have recently come to realize I need a pdf editor that will give me the capability to delete specific pages from the pdf and export specific pages to jpg. I found 2 programs that give me that capability. PDFRider can delete pages and Free Convert PDF to JPG does what the name says. Is there a free program that does all of that?

Answer:PDF Editor to delete pages and export pages to jpg.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see where PDFRider will also export pages to .jpg

I have had a problem opening eBay pages ( and hotmail pages ( for the last couple of days. I have used these sites every day for the last few years without a problem. It takes up to 5 minutes to load the page and when it is loaded it doesn't get correctly loaded either (a lot of the images are missing or show an image box with a red cross in it instead of the image). Most other pages seem to load normally.

Error message:
Error on page (after about 2 mins)

I have tried to alleviate the problem without success by doing the following:

1. Tools>>Internet Options>> and deleted all temporary internet files, cookies and history.

2. Tools>>Internet Options>>Security and set the security settings to Default level.

3. Tools>>Internet Options>>Advanced and set the advanced settings to Restore Defaults.

4. I have run a number of Spyware / Adware programs :

Ad-Aware 2007
Spyware Doctor
Spyware Blaster
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Spy Sweeper
Ewido Micro

5. I have run RegistryFix to ensure the registers are ok.

Can anybody suggest what the problem is and how I can alleviate this problem.

I am using Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180 but get exactly the same errors with Mozilla (FireFox).

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Can't open eBay pages or hotmail pages

Have you got the lastest Java installed.

Try downloading [size=-1]ccleaner to see if that helps.

Answer:Bring it back to Life

Having XP run smooothly on your machine, basically depends on two things:- Processor speed- Amount of RAM memoryYou didn't post your processor speed so I can't tell you about that, but 63Mb is not enough for XP.Upgrade to at least 256Mb.About your CD Rom. You can buy any CD Rom with an IDE connector out there. If it says that it works with Vista, than for sure it'll work with ME.But make sure that the one you buy is an IDE drive and not a SATA drive!!

Hi there

I have to agree with other posters who say the current W10 search is an absolute DOG - also the fact that I can hardly read the start menu (text size for me too small and I've found no way so far of being able to increase the size of the start menu itself - other items OK though) makes it doubly useless.

For some W7 users who never used W8 here's what it looks like.

(Note I'm on a Linux Host so this is shown on a W8.1 VM in Unity mode on a Linux desktop) - but on a Windows desktop the search panel is identical. The dropdown gives you files, settings or everywhere and it works decently. The whole point of a search is that it should be easy to enter your query and the GUI should be clean and uncluttered.

Answer:Ms please bring back W8 search !!!

That would be nice to have as an option at least.

Hi there,

Many times when I am clicking a link, or less often, hitting enter after typing in an address into Firefox, I get a Google search with fragments of the address that I've typed in. For example, if I go to the recent sites dropdown, and click Firefox, I may end up at Google with a search for "" in the box.

I imagine it's some sort of timeout issue or settings in my network card that need to be changed. Maybe it's a Firefox setting that I tweaked a long time ago. I am pretty sure I have seen it happen with IE as well, though. I also thought for a while that it was caused by a slow connection, because when I was downloading files it seemed to happen more often. But of my 6mbps download speed, they may be taking 500kb-1mb at most. So that seemed improbable.

I have searched for the answer and have yet to come across someone with the same problem.

Alright, I don't know where to ask this so I'm coming to you all. Feel free to point me elsewhere.

I have a task, there are Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, one for each day of the year going back into 2005. Each workbook has one worksheet in it with between 200 and 1000 lines. Each line represents one transaction. One or my coworkers goes through each day and marks whether the transaction is valid or not, if it is not it may be marked as fix or no. So three possible outcomes.

My task is to summarize all the sheets into one. The simple solution to me is a countif type function. For some reason the new spreadsheet does not update, once I save it, where I had the correct numbers, I now have errors. When I close and go back in and update, still errors. I am assuming this is because the files are all out on a network drive.

So, the countif solution appears to be out. My next option I was considering was importing the sheets to an Access database, then I could manipulate, query and report from there. However, I don't want to import each SS individually. I can't think of a way to write a macro for it.

I'm sure people do this kind of thing all the time, there has to be a better, less time intensive option. Suggestions?

Answer:Bring together tons of spreadsheets?

what type of permissions do you have for this network drive?

OK, this may seem like a random request...

I want to make it so that I get a message box pop up when I start up the computer. I'm currently working through learning the kanji (Japanese characters), and I want to get it to pop up a message saying what % through the book I am.

I have relatively few programming skills ... is there a way to do this easily? Or will it be a case of needing to code something in C, which is still beyond me on Windows. (I'm on Vista at the moment.) I need to be able to change what the message is easily enough when I work out I've gone up a %.
Is there an easy-ish way to do this?

Thanks very much.

Answer:Bring up a message on Startup

Since nobody has replied,, I bet it's almost impossible for people to come up with that given that the software you are using is uncommon. We don't even know what software here. Stuff like that, unless it's already built into your program, is usually done for very popular softwares and for functions that a lot of people wish to have or report that they do not work the way they should.

whenever i try to bring up internet explorer, i get the message "cannot find 'file:///C:/WINDOWS/s.htm'. Make sure the path of Internet Address is correct.

what do i do?

Answer:i can't bring up internet explorer

Looks like you're trying to use a bad shortcut to open IE. Go to:

Start -- Run -- type in "iexplore.exe" (without quotes) -- Enter

Does your Internet Explorer program start that way? If so, create yourself a new shortcut and delete the old (inoperative) one.

I'm sure the answer is no, but does anyone know how to get rid of the error status on e-mail scanning without reinstalling? It's norton AV 2002, it's enabled but it shows error status, I'm trying to run Panda active scan to see if there is a virus causing it, I ran housecall and it came up blank. So I'm not sure if it was caused by a virus or not.

Thank you for your time and any help.

Answer:Why must they bring me norton problems?

Have a look here,

It's for NAV 2003 but you might try some of the fixes, especially Disable and re-enable Auto-Protect.
