Firefox won't load any webpages; other browsers will

Question: Firefox won't load any webpages; other browsers will

Firefox sits at "connecting" and eventually times out. Chrome and IE work fine.

Steps I've taken:

- Disabled Windows Firewall
- Made sure Firefox was fully excepted from my Avast firewall
- Uninstalled/Reinstalled
- Restarted PC
- Made sure Firefox was set to direct connect in the options

No dice.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've used Firefox on my two PCs (XP) and two laptops (XP and Win7) for years. I've noticed more recently that all of them seem to have problems with loading up web pages compared to how older versions of FF were working.

I've tried using IE and Opera as well and they seem to be slow as well. All computers are running either AVG or Avast antivirus software.

If I try to open something, I can look down in the left side of the lower task bar and it will either say, "waiting for .........." or "transferring from....... " Regardless of which it is, I endure a slow painful page load up.

I've noticed this when traveling with my laptops so I know that its not just a problem with my home's internet and/or router. Some websites are worse than others because of bandwidth (I assume!)

Is it just that the web is being bombarded with so many advertisements, cookies and spyware that browsers are forced to "work harder" resulting in slower web page loading?

I've got little to no patience and I'm very sensitive to how my computers are running. In other words, I notice things like this and even my wife has noticed slower web page loading.

Danny

I forgot to mention that both laptops have recently been reformatted so they are fresh.

Answer:Web browsers slow to load up webpages

It is not ads. Cause you can hide them/disable them. This would be due to the connection and the number of people on it. Simple as that. Do you have WPA2 Security with a strong 16 character password that would take any brute force program at least a couple of days to crack? Or do you have some simple password that can be guessed by just about anyone who knows even a small detail about you?

What is your ISP speed as reported by SpeedTest.Net?

What extenstions do you have running?

What other programs do you have running?

How much RAM is in use? How many CPU Cycles?

Everything comes into effect. Sorry to inform you but no PC will stay as fast as it was the very first day you bought it. PC Hardware wears down. It starts to slow down. It is a fact of the industry. Even on a fresh install you can have more wear and tear on your hard drive causing read times to be longer.

I recently posted a topic earlier this week where I was helped by some members of the forum. However, the issue was unable to be resolved and I was told to post a HJT/DDS log. Here is the link to that topic:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/262238/connected-to-the-internet-but-browsers-cant-load-any-webpages-help-please/So my problem arose when my laptop was unable to load up any webpages, even though my laptop informed me that I was indeed connected to the internet. This happens on both firefox and internet explorer, and whether I am connected wirelessly or using an ethernet cord. However, I found that by booting my laptop into safe mode with networking, I was able to use both browsers fine. I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 on Windows Vista home basic 32-bit. Close the command box.Go Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and and choose Properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item. Select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Reboot. Warning: Some Internet Service Providers need specific DNS settings. You need to make sure that you know if such DNS settings are required before you make this change.

I first started a thread in HJT forum, but I do not think this has anything to do with virus, malware or anything like that.

I had Zone Alarm on laptop, but it kept messing up some other programs, so I uninstalled it, and now no matter what browser I use, they will not load any webpages, and my email will not work.

I tried doing a repair of windows XP via CD last nite to no avail.

Does anyone here know how to fix this, or where should I go for help?

Or - do I have to do the dirty deed of reformating entire drive? (YUCK!)

Please help me if you can.

I'm having a real pain with my web browsers. I'm using dial-up 31.2 kbps, and the connection is just fine (I can update anti-virus & anti-spyware programs) but I can't surf the web with IE or Firefox. If I use Firefox, when I enter the web address, the browser just stays blank and the connection indicator says it's done loading already. If I open up IE, it will search for the website, but then crash (the error message indicates it's code 0xc0000005, with all the other addresses at 0). My OS is XP Pro.

I think it might have to do with some anti-spyware programs I put in: either Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Webroot Spy Sweeper, or Secretmaker (I really think it's Secretmaker, and have since uninstalled that program, but I can't solve the problem). What's really odd is that I CAN BROWSE using the browser on RealPlayer 10.0, which is what I'm using to post. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Earlier this week I started to notice that Firefox was taking progressively longer to return searches and load pages. It is now to the point where I can't get either Firefox or Chrome to even open the Google search page. My computer runs wirelessly to the stock gateway that I lease from Comcast. Another computer runs wired to the same gateway and has zero internet connectivity issues. My wireless computer shows full wireless connection with zero problems as far as receiving data from the gateway.

I can connect wirelessly to the gateway using my mobile phone on the exact same network that my wireless computer is connected to. I can browse effortlessly with my phone; zero page loading issues, such as it is, while sitting right in front of the computer with the browser issue. Additionally, I can connect with a wireless laptop sitting right in front of the computer with the issue.

I had switched to Comcast Xfinity internet service from ATT 2 or so months ago. I've had no noticable problems with wireless connections or browsing until this week. I called Comcast and ran through some resetting procedures for the gateway. They had no impact on my wireless computer's issue.

I generally keep my computer up to date and clean using CCleaner. I regularly purge unneeded software and files and keep it backed up. I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials as virus protection and keep the firewall on. I also ran Malwarebytes a couple of times. It found a bunch of files... Read more

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

I'm running FF3 on OSX Tiger. Firefox works perfectly sometimes, and other times it's like it forgets that it's supposed to be loading a page and just quits partway through, repeats certain aspects (usually an image--similar to the "tile" desktop) throughout a webpage, and sometimes it just loads a small portion of a webpage (see pic for that one--then compare it to the Recipezaar Homepage, which is what the picture is supposed to be), and lastly, it's crashing a lot.

Has anyone else had this trouble with it? Does anyone know what the problem might be? The site that the hangups are the worst on is Blackboard (it's a site for colleges/high schools to retrieve homework and other data--particularly popular for online classes). BB throws my browsing experience through all sorts of loops.

Thanks!

Hi,
I have been having the above problem with firefox for the last few months. I followed some instructions from this forum yesterday and opened a new profile which seemed to have solved the problems, but they returned a few hours later.

Everything seems to be okay when I run firefox in safe mode. I am running firefox 3.0.5

I think I would like to start again, but when I look under Documents and Settings I have the following folders:
Administrator
Administrator.HAY1
All Users
All Users.WINXP
Default User
Default User.WINXP
Denis
Denis.HAY1
If I open the folders, the Denis and Denis and Denis.HAY1 folders have Mozilla profiles in them.

Questions:
Is there a simple way to resolve this issue?
If not, how do I start again?
Do I need all those folders under Documents and Settings?
If I want to start all over again, can I delete the two Mozilla profiles?
What else do I need to do to make sure I am not importing the problems again?
How can I save my cookies as I have some setup that I need to keep, otherwise I will have to go to a lot of trouble to set them up again?

I hope this makes sense, and thank you for any help.
Denis

Answer:Firefox is freezing constantly and won't load some webpages

Hi,

I would start by asking if you have run all of your scans. I am particularly wondering about any malware scans if you don't have a scanner for that I would recommend one at malwarebytes.org. There is a free version that you can d/l and use. If you find that you do have malware on your computer then there are some routes that we can take.

After that I would make sure that you are able to reach those sites from a browser on your computer. I would recommend that you try IE, if you still have it. That way we can rule out the sites.

Lets start there and then go from there, and Welcome to TSF!!!

Cheers!

Hi,
I have been asked to post this here for someone to look at please.
I have been have trouble with firefox freezing frequently and not allowing me to access some webpages that I know are accessable.

I was advised to do a scan with malwaresbytes and it found several infected objects:
Adware.Zango
Trojan.Agent
Adware.Seekmo
Rogue.Multiple
Trojan.Downloader

These I let the program delete for me. Everything seemed to work okay after that, but after a few hours the problems returned again.
I hope I have completed all the tasks as I should have. Below is the contents of DDS.txt

Hi there,

Try flushing the DNS and see if that would help. Open up the command prompt and type in the following command = "ipconfig /flushdns". Once the DNS is flushed, reboot your computer and then try accessing the site once again.

Also, try accessing the site from another computer and see if the site works on another computer.

Try this, open up command prompt(cmd)on run box for XP or type cmd in Vista/Win 7 system on your search programs and files box. Type ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter. Try launching your Firefox browser and then check the difference. There will be a space between g and /.

This problem started a few years ago when i was still using windows 7. I used to use google chrome until i started getting SSL errors i then started using internet explorer since it was the only browser i could still access all websites and then i started having problems there too videos wouldn't load certain websites too. Also couldn't download games from steam anymore.
I went as far as to wiping my hard drive with DBAN and re-installed window (updated to windows 10) which unfortunately has the same errors and problems encountered before i then went as far as to buy a new hard drive with a new copy of windows and the problems are still there.
I'm out of ideas any help would be more than welcome thank you all in advance.

Answer:cannot access certain webpages on all browsers..

Give your ISP a call regarding your SSL errors.

Hi! I am having a strange problem. Certain webpages are causing my browser to crash. The two that are a big problem are my AIM mail which crashes as soon as I log in, and Horsecity.com to which I am a member of the BB.I use XP Pro, normally use Slimbrowser, but it also does it with IE. I tried to reinstall Firefox (used before, but I prefer Slimbrowser) to see if it also does it and it says the proxy server is refusing connection. I have no idea how to make that work. I have a wireless router. Would that have something to do with it?Now I have some basic PC smarts but nothing in depth. I have no idea what is going on here or how to fix it. If I still had my XP Pro disk I swear I would wipe my drive and just start over, only it was stolen so now I am stuck grrrrrr......This happened to some nature once before and it was some sort of malware but this is not the same. Super Anti Spyware check shows nothing but the cookie trackers so far.Oh and I ran a search on google and someone said to install java again to fix this issue which I tried and it did not help.Any suggestions on what to do to make this stop?

I suspect I'm just being too picky, but I don't like the way Win-10 shows a single instance of the Browser on the Task Bar, then when you mouse over, a preview of all the open webpages pops up.

I organize my browsing by instances of the Browser being open, not on the webpages themselves. I find this webpage preview to be very clutter, as I sometime have 2 or 3 windows (instances of the Browser) open, but each instances is for a specific purpose. I need to move between Windows or instances of the Browser being open. Seeing, 10 or 20 webpages in a preview is just too cluttered. Plus, once the TAB count reaches a certain level, you don't see the preview, just a list of open Tabs (or webpages).

So ...hope against hope ...is there any way to control that open browser TAB preview. I would prefer to set it to instances of open Browsers rather than instances of open webpages (TABS).

I typically know what I have in each instance of an open Browser, so a Browser open list is more valuable and compact than a long list of 20 webpages with no distinction regarding which Browse each webpage is open in.

The Webpage preview is pretty fast, but it is just too cluttered.

Keep in mind, I'm coming from Win-XP, each instance of the Browser was a separate tab on the Task Bar. So moving from open Browser to open Browser was easy.

Though of low interest to those viewing, here is how I might organize my instances of open Browsers 1.) Audio Discussion Group 2.) Product ... Read more

Hello,

A number of websites I use regularly are not loading correctly. They don't load images correctly and some videos won't play. I've tried updating Java, Flash, clearing the cache, etc, but nothing seems to help. It's driving me nuts. When I load certain pages they appear vertically, with empty boxes where buttons and images should be, if that makes sense. Additionally, I don't have any problems with most of the sites I visit; it's just about 3-5 that issues with display/images/multimedia occur. I have these issues in all browsers I use, however: Mozilla, Safari, and IE.

I read another thread and saw a link to Tech Support Guy System Information Utility Test, so I ran the test. Here are the results:

when i click try to load a webpage it won't load sometimes it will take up to 30 seconds to load and other times it will instantly load. I use a wireless adapter and the router is downstairs from me . This problem only started happening about 2 weeks ago. I virus scanned and tryed malwarebytes and those didnt find anything. It worked pretty well before 2 weeks ago. I think its a software issue because while im playing a game or something i dont disconnect from it while the pages are still taking forever to load. But i am also having some disconection issues so could distance from my router be an issue (only up one flight of stares from it) or could my wireless adapter or router be failing?

Answer:webpages loading slowly all browsers

I would try a system restore to before the problem started as a first step

I'm using Windows XP service pack 3 on a Samsung NC10. Chrome is my default browser but this problem also exists in Safari and IE 6.0

Yesterday, Chrome failed to open any webpages and displayed this message:
This webpage is not available.
The webpage at http://google.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

Safari displays this message:
"There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server HTTP." (CFURLErrorDomain:306)

However, I am able to open Gmail and Facebook by manually typing "s" after "http." This does not work for other sites such as Google or weather.com.

I've tried to following:
Update Chrome and Safari
Restore Chrome to default settings
Run tdsskiller, antiboot, xoristdecryptor, pmaxkiller, kateskiller (all from Kaspersky)
Exclude Chrome from Firewall
Uninstalled antivirus software

I've been searching forums for solutions, tried those above, but still nothing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, all. I've been having this issue for about a week now, and would really appreciate any help/advice. I think it may be a virus, but I'm not sure.I'm using a Mac OS X 10.5.8, and here's what's happening:While browsing sites, some webpages won't load correctly. Sometimes it'll just load a page of html codes, borked layouts, or mixes of both. Also, there are times when it'll load an image strangely, like there'll be random discolored lines or dots in it, or it'll only load half-way, if at all. It's doing this on Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. I've tried temporarily connecting to another wifi network, just in case the problem was somehow coming from my router, but nothing changed. Here are some examples of what I'm seeing:Image: 1Link: http://baddmage.deviantart.com/art/Hawk-in-the-Night-131228172?q=gallery%3ABaddMage&qo=0Image: 2Link: http://www.scriptfrenzy.orgImage: 3Link: http://www.tumblr.com/dashboard (Someone would need to be logged in to see this one, so I don't know who could make a comparison. Hello
After a fresh windows install,
I get warnings like 'your connection is not private' when I try to view webpages on Google chrome, and 'there's a problem with this website certificate' when using internet explorer.
Also, some webpages dont display very well, the pictures are missing and the text layout is wrong.
I set my clock to the right time, it was wrong, but I rectified it.
But I'm still getting these problems
I'm running windows 7 ultimate x64

Any ideas?
Thanks, the Venerable

Answer:Solved: Browsers will not load microsoft website but will load FB, Google etc etc

Either it's a problem server side for them, which would be an issue with your IP,
or a process/service altered some of your core system settings on your end which blocks the microsoft website for some reason....., you can try a different IP address just to make sure it's not server side for them, and then if that doesn't work I am not sure what to tell you other than reinstalling all browsers, and eventually refromatting if reinstalling browsers does not work.

IF it is an IP issue it could be something with your network, if a network admin blocked the microsoft website, or even theoretically your ISP if there was a strange issue with them, however that would be rare.

Hi. I'm running the lastest version of Windows Vista Home Premium and I'm using the latest version of Firefox.

I am currently having what seems to be a pretty obscure problem. Earlier today out of nowhere I started having problems loading certain webpages.

These pages will not load at all. For example, the main page of google does not work, but the firefox default homepage google quicksearch bar does. I am certain that it is not a server based problem, because I can access these websites no problem from a different machine. This problem does not seem to be linked to the browser, because both Internet Explorer and Opera are also unable to load the same pages. I tried disabling windows defender as well as the default windows firewall, but to no effect. Running firefox in safemode also had no effect, furthering my suspicions that the problem is not browser based, but some problem with a corrupt OS file.

After trying pretty much everything within my power I decided to just bite the bullet and try a system restore from three days back (I actually haven't been having this problem since before today) to see if it might fix the problem. No dice, and instead windows decided to just plain stop booting and I had to do a repair procedure with the windows vista CD to repair a file called "NETIO.SYS" with the file status: "0xc000000f", just to be able to boot to Vista again.

After the repair, windows was working again, and after a websearch for this NETIO.S... Read more

Hi all,

first post so thanks to any and all for your support.

I built a website using dreamweaver and a template (from well known company and they claim there is no issues with IE 8).

I am having trouble with IE 8 not loading some webpages in the site. There is no error per se, just a white page. I have IE 7 on another PC and it loads the same pages fine. I d/l Firefox 3 (latest version i think) and it also loads the same pages with no troubles from the same computer that has IE 8.
Looking at the code, I cannot see any difference between pages that load and those that do not.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

Thanks,

dukejp

Anyway, I have a problem with loading certain webpages- www.google.com and www.gunbound.net. These pages used to load fairly quickly without problems but now they've stopped working for some reason. I use a wireless connection and have a firewall up and when I turned it off the pages still do not load (but it has always been up, even when the pages were able to load). I've had a friend check the loading of the pages and he had no problems so I know that the sites are not down. When I try to load the pages, they are shown as "The page cannot be displayed". I have tried to change all my security levels to low and it still does not work.

I'm not exactly an IT person so I have no idea what this does, but I've seen many people post a Hijack This log up after their post, so to save time I'll post it now just in case it comes in useful:

Ok so about 2% of what webpages I try to load actualy do load.. the computer was bought yesterday. I'm pretty sure Norton has nothing to do with it.. I have tried Firefox, IE, and Netscape and all load the same pages this is about the 50th help site I have tried and the only one which has loaded.. help?

Answer:Webpages won't load

What firewall are you running?  Even though the computer is new, I'd go ahead and download Spybot Search & Destroy and maybe Ad-aware, install them and scan your system.  Never know what all's loaded on a new system.  I think I'd also download CCleaner.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I'll post here anyway.

All of my browsers have the same problem, so I'm thinking it is either a missing plugin of some sorts, or it has to do with my computer's connection to the internet.

As stated in the topic, my browser will only load a few different web pages (I get the "Problem loading page" :connection to the server was reset while the page was loading)

Some pages that give the error screen are: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Xbox.com, Microsoft.com

But I can load Yahoo.com, Hulu.com, Google

There are most likely more in both loadable and non-loadable, but I put some of the popular ones.

Maybe there is an update to Java or another program that I missed?

Please help! I am at work where I (shh!) browse the internet. Sometime yesterday morning, myspace.com stopped working for me. It acts like it's loading, takes forever, and then I get the "The page cannot be displayed" error message. I tried downloading Firefox and using that, but it won't load in there either. I've also noticed that youtube.com won't load, and hotlinked images from Photobucket accounts don't display.

I've tried deleting cookies, offline files, and history multiple times. I've also cleared my cache.

Answer:IE won't load certain webpages

And add photobucket.com to the list! The entire site won't open.

The other day my router packed in so i've changed it, ever since i cant seem to be able to access websites like ebay, facebook, engadget, cnet and windows live mail and more, it will just load for ages and then eventually i will get some links but the page wont be properly loaded, it will be all over the place or i will just get the unable to load page error. And on other sites like this one and on my own sites as well as others it works perfect.. I cant load the app store or itunes

I can even play online fine, but for some reason I'm unable to load those sites, I've tried direct from the computer the router is plugged into, over wi-fi on my laptop and ipod touch but nothing is working, I've also tried multiple browsers

It must be my router, but i cant think of any settings on it, I used this router before and it worked fine, i only changed it cause i got a new one for free which is the one that packed in

Anyone any ideas?

I am using my home network so I know there is no weird firewall or Proxy settings set up, and My Girlfriends computer which is the exact same as mine will load these pages just fine...

Hi,
My internet connects without any problem but it will not load any webpages with either IE6 or Firefox. I have done the usual reset to default settings, virus and spyware checks, LSP fix, clean with CClean, etc to no avail. I am rather desperate but still not keen to re-install WinXP/reformat the hard drive. I would appreciate very much if someone can offer his/her expertise to help me to resolve this.

Below is the Hijackthis log. I don't see any problem in them except having AVG and Avast together (They are together there for nearly a year there without any problem though!).

Hi All

I've been trying to load webpages, but only get an error message. I think someone had used a torrent site to download as Ihave recently found and removed some torrent links. Anyway, when I switch the computer off, it does download the automatic windows updates. This seems to be working OK.

How can I repair this please. I can't access any sites to download software, so if I'm advised to do this, it will take a little longer as I will have to download at a friends, then bring back and run on mine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Harlequeen

Strange thing happening when browsing these days. Can't access my own providers website to get my mail, or any affliliated sites. Handful of others too. I've followed the steps up to posting the logfile. Wondered if anything wrong with it as I've reset winsock, scanned and unistalled anything potentially responsible but still no joy. Alright. I move my computer from school to home and this problem started happening. I had no issues whatever at school. The problem is webpages like mlb.com, espn.com, nhl.com, this site, etc. Give me server not found errors. Obviously it's not the server. I am running XP pro sp2 and Firefox. What's odd is I'll go to say mlb.com and it won't load, then half an hour later it will load. Sometimes it won't load all the way though, only half of the stuff loads up.

I'm beginning to think something is messed up with my firewall but I've really got no clue. I'm pretty sure I tried turning off both my trendMicro firewall and Windows firewall and attempted to load pages but I still get the same error. The laptop I'm currently using (xp) and a second desktop (Vista) both work just fine.

Any ideas and as always, thanks in advance.

hello... a few days ago i had a major spyware problem. some of the nice people from this site helped me solve my problem, and i'm so grateful for that. but since then, i'm unable to get onto my homepage and some other websites (namely messageboards or other "interactive" sites) and i keep getting an error message that reads as follows:

The page cannot be displayed
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.
HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Internet Explorer
the sites are working for other people, so that's not the issue. i did something called "tuneup utilities 2004" on the request of someone here after i had cleared my computer of spyware, and i think that might have adjusted the settings for internet explorer. but i don't know what they were originally, and restoring them to default doesn't seem to work.

do any of you have any idea as to what's causing this and how to fix it? like i said, most websites work, but some that worked before aren't working now.

thanks so much.

I have been having this problem on my home computer (Windows XP Pro) for a couple weeks now. I am able to connect to the internet via dial-up (PeoplePC), but IE will not load any pages. I get the standard message about not being able to find page (something like that?). I have searched these forums for advise and have done the following (not in this particular order):

*Set dns #'s per Microsoft's help pages
*Loaded and ran SpywareBlaster, SpywareGaurd, Kill2Me, HijackThis, CWShredder
*Have also been running AdAware for almost a month everytime I log on. Ran it with the setting and tweaks mentioned in previous threads.
*Ran Norton AV (no viruses found)
*Dumped all Temp, Temp Internet Files, Cookies & History
*Cleared add/remove program files of suspicious looking programs.
*Made sure my activex settings are either disabled or prompt

When I try to do a window update, of course the page will not load.
I get pop-ups, but they do not load either (almost amusing). I can see that most of them start with the url look2me (even after running kill2me).
I know I don't have the firewall up, but my isp tech told me on the phone to unclick it when she was helping me with my connection.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 4120 running Vista Business. The internet seems to work fine. It will load almost every url except for Facebook and Myspace. All of the firewalls are disabled. It will sometimes load the login page and then not work. Sometimes it will seem to load all of the pages for awhile and then stop working again. It is connected through a wired connection. When I connect it wirelessly it doesn't seem to ever have any problems. Could there be something wrong with the wired connection that would make it only work sometimes or am I missing something else??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks...

First let me say that I greatly appreciate the time anyone puts in to helping me with this problem. I had a problem with a hijacker that put a html link file in my windows directory called "secure.html". And, as hijackers do, it kept setting my homepage to something like "c:\windows\secure.html". The link just advertised that I had spyware and that I could dl their program to get rid of it. Instead I spent a few hours with adaware and spybot and HijackThis and got rid of it. But, now there are a few webpages that I can't access anymore. The only definate webpage that I know is still up that I can NEVER gain access too is www.google.com, and any link on www.ask.com, you know the first links listed at the top of the page when you search for something, bussiness links and so on. These take me to the "cannot find server" screen in IE. I have another computer in the house on the same modem that accesses google fine. BTW I'm running microsoft windows xp and IE 6x and I'm on cable but not using any sort of router or network hub, the modem has usb and ethernet plugs on it and I've got the usb going to one computer and the ethernet going to the other. I know this is frowned upon but it shouldn't stop me from viewing one or more pages. So, enough of my babbling and here is a HijackThis log for you pro's to look through. (btw i found and cleared what i saw as definate threats already with HijackThis.) I've also dumped my c... Read more

Answer:Certain webpages won't load

Look in the The C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS file (open it with notepad)

It may contain entries like:
127.0.0.1 www.google.com

These will have been placed there by a virus, and prevent you reaching the site(s).

The Hosts file is a system file, so unless you enable the viewing of system files, you will not find it. It is just "Hosts" with no extension.

Download Stinger.exe from McAfee and run it.

You have only posted a portion of the HiJack This log.
Using "Save log" produces the full log in notepad. Post a full copy of that back.

In need of help! I just got Charter internet, with wifi. The speed says 65mbps and signal appears good. I also got a new laptop, Toshiba Satellite C55-B, Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4005U CPU @ 1.70 GHz 1.70Ghz. Windows 7, with Internet Explorer browser (currently downloading Chrome, but taking forever). I have done all the updates.
When I get online, some pages load very quickly, but when I click on anything it takes forever to load or does not load at all. Some websites partially load. When I type in some websites nothing happens. I have tried troubleshooting and have come up with nothing. I do not get any kind of error messages, the page just acts like it is loading but nothing happens. I am at a loss. I do not know if it is my connection or my laptop. I wondered if there were some settings on the laptop that I need to change, being that it is brand new. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. However, I am not very tech savvy, so details would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Webpages don't load correctly.

We always blame ourselves but sometimes the service we pay for is not of the quality we would like.So before making changes to your new computer settings check for the service status in your area. The signal icon in the task bar only tells you the signal from your router.

Hello,

I just built a PC for my boss with Windows 8x64 and he is running into a major issue. No matter what web browser he tries to use (internet explorer, firefox, chrome) he can never load webpages. They constantly time out after attempting to load for several minutes.

He definitely has access to the internet because he can still send and receive emails, transfer files on Dropbox, and run remote access software. I even pinged a couple websites in DOS and his latency is just fine.

I just recently built another computer with the exact same components but installed Windows 7 and there were no problems so this is definitely a Windows 8 issue.

What is causing his computer to not load webpages?

Answer:Web-browser will not load webpages

This is a fairly typical problem and usually has to do with winsock or the TCP/IP stack requiring a reset.

Copy/paste the following two commands, into an elevated command prompt one at a time, hit enter after each one then reboot your machine. Test to see if your browsers now function as they should.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

Good Day Everyone, I am stuck on a problem. The problem is this, I can not bring any web pages up on the internet. I have tried IE 6.01 and FireFox. It is the same for the modem as the Network Card. I have tried 2 different Modems and 3 network cards. Here is what else I have tried.

Reinstalling Win 98 SE over the problem ver of 98
Reinstalled All network componets
Scan for Viruses
Checked for Proxy settings

It all started after some spyware/adware was removed. I can connect to the office network and look at the user folders and print to the network printer but I can not bring any web pages up. I get the error that the page can not be displayed. I am able to ping to the local network and not the internet. I have checked my TCP/IP setting and checked DNS and WINS but still no luck. I am unable to format that drive because there is some special CAD software on there and the branch who sent me the computer can not find the disks. I have tried everything that I can think of. And I do not have the option of formatting. I would love to do that. We do not want to upgrade the OS to Win ME, 2000, or XP. Any other ideas on what do to would be great.

Thanks
Mark

Answer:Unable to load webpages...

It would be helpful if you would post a log for us so we can make sure all of the malware is gone.

Create a permanent folder on your hard drive like c:\program files\hjt.
Download Hijackthis and save it to that folder.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Hi Dylanz Of Dylanz,

What firewall are you using? Will the Adobe page load if you disable your firewall temporarily?

If that doesn't work, what are your settings if you open Firefox, go to Tools / Options and click on Content and on Security?

In Content, are all 4 options checked at the top of the tab?
In Security, is it checked to give you a warning if add-ons are added?

Answer:Webpages Flashing when trying to load.

IE10 Has compatibility issues with Older versions of Java, and Flash player. Some websites are not compatible with IE10. You can change the Browser mode by pressing F12 to bring up the developer window. At the bottom of the browser change browser mode to IE9. Press F12 again to close the window. You will have to do this for any page that doesn't load correctly.

Hi everyone, this is my first post, but knowing Windows it won't be my last!

I have recently setup a MS windows 2003 Small business network, with ADSL shared access to the Web. The network is running fine, email is collected without problem, directories share happily, things are all quiet on the LAN front. Unfortunatly not on the Web front.

I have a client who uses the web 50% of the day, he goes to a range of sites including ebay. Some days the sites load up without a hitch, sometimes the sites need two or three attempts with the refresh button before they load, sometimes (and this is the real problem) they fail to load after each new page, so when he is conducting business on ebay for example, it takes an age to perform simple tasks because he is constantly refreshing pages and going back.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, I am using a Belkin Wireless ADSL modem and BT Internet.

Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated as it is causing him and me to tear whats left of our hair out!

Barry

Webpages take forever to load. Sometimes they don't load at all. All webpages are this way not just some. Either they just set there saying they are waiting. Or it says done but the screen is white. Or after hours it loads but not completely. Or I get the message that ie cannot open the webpage. You just recently fixed a DNS hijacker with combofix. I have ran antivirus and antispyware and antimalware. The machine seems clean. Please help.

Question: Webpages dont load

Any sites I try to access, IE7 says that the webpage cannot be displayed. However, msn messenger logs in and I am also able to update nod32, adaware, spybot etc.

I am running WinXP SP3 and I have run adaware and spybot and neither pick up any malware. I also did a virus scan and no virus' are detected.

It was working perfect yesterday. The PC which is having the internet problems is connected directly to the router and this PC I am using now is connected wirelessly, so there is nothing wrong with my router. I have tried to 'repair' the local area network but it still doesnt work. I ran IE without addons but sites still dont load. I also went to Internet Options -> Advanced and reset and restored advanced settings but it still doesnt work.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Hi

On my laptop when I try to load IE or Mozilla the program opens but won't load webpages, even though my wireless connection states connected and signal strength 'excellent'. Using the phone line I get the same thing.

Here are the messages I get:

IE: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
Mozilla: Server no found - Firefox can't find the server at my.yahoo.com

I have already visited a forum that works on malware and they have told me that is not what is causing my problem and they recommended I come here for help.

I appreciate any help you can give me. I need my laptop for school which is starting back up again next week and worried I won't have it.

Thank you

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7, and when I first start it up, it works fine in every way. It's a little sluggish, but nothing bad. After 10-45 minutes, it stops loading webpages. I am still able to use programs like DropBox and Steam (that require an internet connection to work) with no problems, but I am unable to go to any website on any of my browsers. If I restart the computer, this fixes the problem for 10-45 minutes, and then I have to start all over again. I've tried resetting the DNS and the winsock thing, but that doesn't seem to have any effect. Help!!

Windows XP , webpages either load very slowly or not at all. I have AOL as my ISP. I have cleared the cache under tools in IE, cleared cache on System information, and Java cache. I have also performed a "quick restore". I have plenty of Ram.
I have Google chrome and IE8. I also have Computer checkup with AOL
that cleans the registry weekly. I do not do a lot of surfing, maybe 10
websites a day.
I do play several games on Facebook.
Can anyone give me any ideas? I am on a broadband connection.
Frustrated in MS>

Answer:Webpages Load Slowly

AOL does not offer Broadband connection, so they are not the ISP for your broadband connection, and you don't even need AOL. Try using IE outside of AOL (once logged on, minimize the AOL interface and start IE). Check your broadband connection speed by going to speedtest.net if it is below 1mbps then you are using dial-up speed. Talk to your broadband ISP.

I have a Dell laptop windows 7 and since last night it says I am connected to linksys but I can't get onto skype and any webpages won't load either on IE, GC, and FF. I checked under LAN settings and made sure none of those boxes were checked. Our other laptop is connecting although it seemed slower than usual, it was still loading the webpages, this laptop won't load anything. Windows firewall is on but it is managed by McAfee. I'm not super computer savvy and I really have no idea what the problem is. I ran AVG as well and no threats were found and I'm currently running malewarebytes.

OK so I've been trying to figure this out for over a week now. Some webpages load extreemly slow or just stay at a white page. Sometimes if I hit the "X" to stop loading the page a partially loaded page might come up.
It happens to all three of the browsers I have installed, Firefox (my main browser), Chrome and IE. Chrome seems to load a little more than the othe two but will time out alot on the pages.
Now this is only on a select few sites I happened to come across. First noticed it when I went to update CCleaner and pirisoft, com wouldn't load. Also have found a couple other sites doing it as well.
These pages all load on my phone and another computer connected to the same router. (Ethernet connection).

List of things I have tried that have resulted in nothing.

Checked Host file.

Tried switching to Open DNS and Google DNS

Checked Avira (free Version) and windows firewall for problems. Even tried disableing them.

Updated Windows (7 64 bit)

Tried releasing and renewing IP address

Uninstalled Firefox and Chrome and deleted all saved file to revert back to fresh, ran both with no addons.

Uninstalled and reinstalled all things Java and Flash.

Tried netsh winsock reset.

Updated ethernet driver.

Updated Nvidia graphics driver.

Did trace route, seems to connect there ok.

What download speed are you supposed to get from your ISP?
What download speed do you get with Speedtest.net with the wireless connection to the router? With an ethernet connection to the router? With a connection directly to the modem if you have separate modem and router?

Basically the ipconfig /all output means that you have an apparently good wireless connection to a router. What are you trying to determine from it?

i'm using firefox right now, and it is my default browser, but i still "need" IE for M$update, and for my Navy stuff, so i need to keep it working, but recently when i went and used it, the standard window opened and i typed in the link i wanted, but instead of going to the site, it closed the window and up came a "file download" box that was then overlaid with a verification of file download box.this box has the options of "open", "save", cancel" and "more info"... if i click "open" it opens FF and tried to display the site as if it were in my IE temp files folder on my HDD. if hit "save" it opens a standard "save as" box, and i can save the file as an .htm file. cancel does just that. kills it all. and the "more info" just opens up the M$ explorer help file, which is useless for the problem...

if i look at the saved file in note tab pro, i see that it is saving the main page of the website i was trying to get, but it adds in a javascript section that i "know" is not on the page, because it's my own website homepage and i use strictly html, no java, no nothin'g... soo.. i think i've had my IE hijacked / or redirected, whatever, but i am unable to figure out how to get rid of it by myself.

Really not sure what this can be. Pretty much randomly i cannot load any webpages anymore, tried numerous different ones, but i am still connected to the internet, and most of the time able to talk to friends on Ventrilo , but sometimes it does cut out. Also i usually just do a quick ipconfig/release ,,, ipconfig/renew and it fixes it immediately but then it will go off again just randomly. Any help appreciated.

Answer:Randomly Cannot Load Webpages

So is only web pages, or general connectivity issues? If renewing IP helps, try setting up static one.

In the last two days, I have lost the ability to access many websites I was previously able to.
I have two computers, one running Windows XP, the other running Ubuntu. Both have problems accessing the same sites.
I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I have DSL through ATT connected via a Speedstream 5100 modem to the router.
Some of the sites I have now been unable to access.
www.arcamax.com
www.blockbuster.com
www.techsupportforum.com

I have tried both Google Chrome and Firefox. Neither seem to work.
I look forward to any suggestions.

Answer:Unable to load many webpages

Change your DNS Settings
https://www.opendns.com/start/computer/
However, I actually ran into this problem before, and the issue was a failing modem, however, remove the the linksys router, and attempt to access the sites directly through the modem.

Also power cycle the modem (turn on turn off)

If you have the ability to remove the PC from the house, and try on someone elses network, that will give you a huge advantage in isolating the problem, i recommend that you try that if power cycling a direct connection to the modem fails

Other websites are loading fine, but hotmail and another work-related one just won't load at all. They won't load on either firefox or internet explorer - the connection times out.

Some web pages load perfectly (like this one sevenforums.com) while others do not (harborfreight.com). The ones that don't work either timeout or load without images (see attached). I've run CCleaner, tried running a cmd prompt (sfc scannow), rebooted the router (Netgear R6300v1) and still no dice. Any ideas? Thanks for the help! Oh other devices on the network are fine and pages that do load do so quickly.

Hi,
I am running widows vista. With internet explorer, google chrome and firefox (all updated) certain webpages are taking forever to load. I have problems with hotmail and facebook and many others. They do load but are not loading properly. In hotmail and facebook I end up with a white screen with blue writing on it.
Other websites like google run fine. I have done an internet speed check and am getting 11mbps.
Other computers on my home network and my iphone on the home network work perfectly.
I have run avast, ad aware, spy bot and ccleaner but none of these have helped.

From reading other forums I have also updated my flash player (adobe) and java. I have also cleared the java temp files.

Any help of suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello everyone!
So I recently came down to my parents place for a holiday and ever since I started using the internet here many websites are not loading (firefox, ie and google chrome alike) they usually show an error /problem loading page message. All webpages open fine on the wireless router back at my place.

Also, all the webpages seem to load fine on other PC's in the house.

I have scanned using kaspersky twice, there were no threats.

And I tried using Hotspot Shield - and all the websites load only when hotspot shield is on.

Do help me!

I'm trying to fix a laptop for a friend. The laptop has internet connectivity, but when Internet Explorer is opened, it will only display the "cannot display the webpage" error message. What is the first step I should take in trying to resolve the problem? I would like some advice.......I was advised on this bulletin board to download "GoBack" to help if I had any problems, which I did, but ended up having a few problems with it, so using the add/remove progams deleted it.
I use IE5 and can connect to ntl homepage fine. When I try to connect to other web pages, this is where the problem starts. I can connect to Tech Support Website no probs. But when I try some other websites, I get the error page come up. I try refresh and wait for the loading line at the bottom to complete, it gets about half way and then starts again. It is taking ages to load web pages, if they load at all. In the bottom left hand corner of IE it says "connecting to *******(numbers)" but it doesn't connect straight away. When the error page came up last I clicked on "Detect Network Settings", it started to do so, but still remained on the error page. Anyone got any advice as to what to do????

Answer:Solved: WebPages that take forever to load!!!

I've been having problems with my computer for about a month now. I can load Google's homepage, but cannot do searches without a proxy. I can't load gmail, hotmail, blogspot, can't upload any files to mediafire or any other website, can't upload avatars or upload pictures to imageshack, tinypic, etc. Most other sites will work, but the internet has become considerably slower. Occasionally this will stop and I will be able to upload things and do Google searches, but this will revert back usually within an hour or so. I am able to download any file, any filesize without problems however. No other computers on my network are affected.

I've resetted my modem, restarted, attempted to reinstall windows but the computer will not go past the "loading setup" screen (I don't know if this is part of the problem or not), tried a different browser (Usually use firefox, but tried IE and same problem; even downloaded Opera and tried it, same result). I use AVG and it picked up nothing so I downloaded BitDefender and it only picked up spyware and trojans unrelated to this problem. MSN messenger works completely fine and logs in without problem; Last.fm continues to send data, etc. Filesharing through MSN and AIM, etc, are no problem. Filesharing programs originally worked fine, but seemed to have been affected recently.

I did quite a bit of research on it and I think I might have a Vundo trojan. I will occasionally have ads from websites (such as Google ads) replaced with an... Read more
