[SOLVED] Firefox 3.0.6 fails to load pages

Question: [SOLVED] Firefox 3.0.6 fails to load pages

Recently, I've installed the Windows Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. May or may not be the problem, but ever since, Firefox has not worked properly. It will not load pages and results in the "Network Timeout" error page. What is strange is that it does load my school email account which is held server side at the university. I am currently on a VPN network, but have had no problems with firefox in the past. Also, IE works properly, but Firefox refuses to load anything but my server side email account. I do not have a firewall on my computer and I have turned off windows firewall to no avail.

I have already deleted my profile for firefox and uninstalled/reinstalled and it did not help at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Preferred Solution: [SOLVED] Firefox 3.0.6 fails to load pages

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: [SOLVED] Firefox 3.0.6 fails to load pages

I'm having a similar problem, neither firefox or ie8 load pages as they used to - forums I seem to double post sometimes and other sites just time out, photobucket is the worst.

When I run IE I get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" - no matter what webpage I am trying to access. I have no trouble with Firefox though. I used to be able to use IE but I am not sure when exactly it stopped working (since I so rarely use it). I have tried downloading the newest version of IE with no success.
I have Comcast internet service, TrendMicro PC-Illin Security software (firewall/virus protection), and am running on an eMachine computer running WinXp Home Edition, Service Pack 2. IE LAN's setting is set to "Automatically detect settings". Any help getting IE to work would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am attempting to repair a Toshiba Laptop (Sat Pro A300) running Vista Home Premium. The computer is not mine: it belongs to someone who knows less than me about PC faults but I am no expert with Vista. MalwareBytes identified and removed Adware.Zango, Adware.Hotbar and Adware.Softomate with no noticeable difference in behaviour. In general the computer seems to be in working order except for some aspects of networking.

What doesn't work
Internet Explorer and Firefox can't load web pages
AVG can't download updates
ePrompter can't check for email
FTP can't connect to ftp site (connection refused)
Other computers on my network are not visible

What does work
Wired or wireless, the computer connects to my ADSL router and receives an appropriate IP address.
Ping works fine including DNS (e.g. google.com)
Windows update downloads updates as usual
Clock can be set from internet time server with usual reliability

My conclusions so far
There is something wrong with http or TCP/IP. It could be a corrupted or missing file or a faulty registry setting or maybe something is deliberately blocking certain types of traffic. Turning off the Windows firewall makes no difference.

Repair options
The computer can be reset to the factory default installation and all the additional software installation and configuration repeated.
There is no restore point old enough to be useful.
I have a backup image of the current hard drive configuration.

I would like to restore ... Read more

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

i'm trying to clean a friends laptop. a few months ago he had infections and i did my best to clean them. he had more infections recently. the last time his browser was hijacked and all searches led to dummy pages. i disabled tdsss (i think thats it) and was able to start the cleaning process (i did use smitfraudfix and sdfix and recently deleted them to make it easier to scan for real infections-these 2 programs show up as malicious in other scanners, i know they arent). this time around his laptop shows connected to the network (at his house and mine) but IE won't load pages like something was intercepting the page requests. i started the cleaning process with the programs i had and then found this site (which is awesome). i went thru the run me first cleanup tutorial and the how to protect yourself tutorial first. when i completed the combofix step IE finally started loading pages. i continued and finished with mgtools. thinking everything was allset i reran some basic scanner programs to confirm it was clean before i did the restore points step. SAS did find something and after that IE stopped loading pages again so i reran combofix and mgtools again. i know i wasnt supposed to but it did correct IE again and I haven't run the afterthefact scanners again.

Hello, Please help me!
2 days ago, my system started to be a little slower in start up. also my dial up ISP will not work, it says "failed connecting to server" or error 720 when logging in after dialing. now if you turn on the modem speaker, you dont hear the dialing tone.
anyway, i tried fixing that problem, and soon noticed that my IE was acting strange. It wont load yahoo. at the time i used firefox, and it can load yahoo, but some buttons like in email, reply, move, does not work on it.
IE now cant load yahoo at all, it use to load half way and then display "cannot display page" message.

i tried fixing the dial up problem (through ethernet, which was slow and inconsistant in its connection for whatever reason) and was told by tech service that i might have to reset the DUN and after that i can connect... but it was short lived for when i tried to fix IE with winsockfix, it revereted back to its problem, not to mention IE wasnt fixed at all.

i rebooted many times
i scanned for virus with norton, came up nothing, no new updates either
i checked for spyware with SBS&D, no results, no new updates.
i also ran into some fatal errors, and sometimes after startup, if some programs dont work right.. and some doesnt anymore.. ex. defrag no longer works right.. and scan disk take many trieds to get it to start on restart, and if you go to start >>> programs during after freeze or so, it shows "program" as empty.

Hi, I'm a newbie here. Perhaps this isn't so much of a question as it is a long winded and frustrating statement. History of my browsers: Like all others, started out with IE. Trojan robbed me of Google. Dropped IE because of security holes and never ending need for security patches. Installed Netscape 7.1. Worked great for two years. Upgraded to 7.2 two months ago. Netscape 7.2 would not allow me to "watch item in my Ebay summary page". It constantly forced Ebay to ask for my user name and passsword after I was already signed in. Contacted Ebay, received quick response. I followed all his suggestions, none of them worked. He told me how to configure IE to work with Ebay. Really now! I was using Netscape not IE. Seems this escaped him. Found on various forum sites that Netscape 7.2 contained various bugs and contained a very serious backdoor security hole that had not been fixed. Removed Netscape and installed Firefox v1.0.3.0. Firefox worked quite well until two days ago. Firefox suddenly would not completely render my Ebay summary page or my Yahoo email page. Went to MozillaZine forum for answers. Answers to questions there similar to mine resulted in "don't blame Firefox, blame the website developers for not adhering to standards". What's this? Ebay and Yahoo are some of the most heavily visited sites and have been around forever and Firefox can't handle them? At the top of my Ebay summary page and my Yahoo page there are images... Hi,
It would be so great if someone could help me a really annoying problem that I've been experiencing recently. In Internet Explorer and Firefox, I can't right click on any of the web pages to load them in another window/tab. My right click works fine on my desktop and in my folders but IE and Firefox this problem occurs. Also, when I click to open a webpage (and it can be any webpage), my laptop is redirected to a different webpage (normally adverts). This is becoming so annoying, as I have to copy and paste all the links into the address bar. Anyway, I took the advice that I found on here to use Malware, which I already had on my laptop but this didn't open. I scanned using AVG and CCleaner but couldn't get into the Malware scanner. I eventually managed to get it to work by changing the name and there were about 10 threats which I deleted successfully. However, I am still having the same problem. I downloaded the hijackthis scanner. Here are my results - if anyone could help I would really appreciate it!! Thankyou!

I have the latest java version verified on the java site (it had me remove some older java versions which succeeded; after this, I rebooted). I cannot get youtube to play anything; I always get "an error occurred, please try again later." Youtube works fine with IE and Chrome. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer:Java fails to load in Firefox 13

Youtube does not require Java.
It requires the "Flash Player" from Adobe, and also requires that "javascript" be enabled in your web-browser. Javascript has nothing to do with Java, despite the similar-sounding name.

My computer wont alow me to to open pages with either browser, but i am connected to the net via wireless. Here is the weird thing, i can still use my windows email, update windows(vista) and update all other programs. Any idea how i can fix this?

Answer:Cant load web pages with Firefox or I.E.

One suspect is a non-Windows firewall or security suite mis-configured or corrupted. If the former the fix is to configure it for the desired access. If the latter the fix is to un-install it and run the Removal Tool if one is supplied.

Do the browsers work as desired in Safe Mode with Networking?

Hello, I just got a Lenovo Ideapad S10 with XP. The first thing I did was install Firefox, as well as flash player directly from Adobe. Then I got to work uninstalling Norton Internet Security using the Add/Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel. Since uninstalling Norton I am unable to use IE7. It will say that it is unable to load the web page and when I try to refresh, all that appears in the address bar is http:/// While I don't generally use IE7 for the web, I do want it to work properly. Any thoughts on what may be wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.

This only happens once or twice a day or it might not happen at all.
Also the other computers on my network seem to be loading pages just fine.

in fact ANY browser besides windows internet exploiter will not work anymore on my machine =(

it all started with allowing scripts and downloding the new firefox 3. somthing
version 2 worked fine. then a windows update to fix firefox 3 (haha) and now its even worse.
I have tried: 1: uninstalling firefox and re-installing, nope. 2: reinstalling fire fox version 2 and that wont work now either. 3: tried removing the windows update, nope. 4: installed safari for windows xp only to have it tell me the same thing "can't find internet" even tho its connected and on. 5: installed opera for windows xp and the same problem...

SOooooooooooo it leads me to believe that windows xp is blocking all browsers except its own IE somehow. Which is Horrible since its the worst, slowest, and most annoying browser out there.
(not to mention it seems illegal to do something like that, or at least it should be)

can any one help me???
anyone else have this problem??

Hi. I am having a problem loading pages in Firefox. It shows that the page is loading, but nothing loads. I am also having the same problem in Avant Browser (an IE-based browser). However, IE works fine...

This seems to have started after a recent Windows "Security" Update for Windows XP (KB912919). I tried uninstalling the update, to no avail... I can't seem to get any browser to work, except IE. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox.

I have tried configuring my firewall (Norton). But that doesn't seem to work either.

Perhaps it is coincidence, but when I try to update MS Antispyware (beta 1.0) and SpywareBlaster they both stop responding...

Any ideas, so that I may return to the wonderful world of tabbed browsing?

Answer:Firefox won't load pages

So do you eventually get the "page cannot be displayed" error? And regardless of the page you request? Sounds like IE isn't wanting to share the internet connection. But I'm not sure how to tell you to check it in windows.

I am currently running Windows XP and Firefox 3.5.2. When Firefox attempts to load a page it stops, but the circular indicator keeps spinning although it is not doing anything more than spinning. Sometimes when I hit the reload button one or more times it will actually load. Sometimes it does not load at all. I have tried the following things: I have closed down Zonealarm, but that did not make a difference. I have ditched the latest version of Firefox and downloaded a version from a couple of versions ago. I did this because around the time I downloaded the latest Firefox is when this problem surfaced. Downloading a different version of Firefox did not matter. I have totally cleaned my system using CCleaner. I have defragged and I have gotten rid of .tmp files and also scanned the system with Spybot. None of this has helped the problem. I have a feeling it may be something that I am overlooking. Can someone help?

Thanks,

I read Trojan.Vundo might be the reason, but I'm afraid to delete some of the files because of they're dll.

It is unwise to muck about in the registry unless you are very careful and completely sure of what you are doing. It would be best to do nothing, since you could very easily invalidate the data contained in the HJT log you have submitted and cause confusion.

I recently downloaded Firefox 3, and since then problems loading webpages have arisen in both Firefox 3 and IE 7. Certain pages wont load, ie; Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo, Google will load however its searches will not turn up a result. Once I type in the URL and hit go, on the bottom left corner the process remains at "Waiting for (URL I'm trying to load)".

Since then I have updated my virus definitions in Norton 360 and complete a full system scan. I have used Spybot S&D to try to get rid of the problem also. To no avail, the problem loading certain webpages on Firefox 3 and IE 7 still persists.

If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. I assume a HijackThis log may help you diagnose my problem, so I will include a log.

Am using the latest version of Firefox (1.07) and notice that a few pages that I visit occasionally won't load. The status bar shows "done" but all I have is a white screen. One site is Optimum Online's speed check page: speedcheck2.optonline.net/speedcheck/speedcheck.html
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Steve

Its possible that the Applet on this page takes time to load and you think its not going anywhere. Are you using dialup?

Some of my trusted web pages have suddenly stopped loading. I don't even get an error message; the timer just keeps going around and nothing happens. There doesn't seem to be any connection between the web pages. I've tried using Google Chrome, Firefox and IE with the same result on all of them.

I've tried running my virus scanner (Avira AntiVir Personal), Spybot S&D, CCLeaner, ATF cleaner and I've installed a new firewall (PC Tools Firewall Plus) and Spyware Blaster just to be on the safe side. I've run the various scans in all of these programs and there have been 1 or 2 infections found and cleaned but nothing seems to be making any difference. Not sure what to do next!

I'm running Windows XP SP3.

two computers - both run XP 2002 with IE 6 sp2. the laptop has firefox, which was loading every page I come across. Now neither computer will load them. My computer at work loads them fine. Here's what's happening. I get to a page and log in, the security screen pops up in IE and asks me if I want to display nonsecure content...sure, okay. Then it changes pages and thinks, thinks, thinks and then nothing - blank screen.
here's the URL i'm trying to load using both browsers:
https://campus.ctuonline.edu/MainFrame.aspx

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. OBTW, I've already set the security tab stuff back to default and ran the scannow thingy.

Answer:Some pages in IE and Firefox wont load

I'm no HTML guru, but I know a thing or two and I think it has to do with the poor job they did on the source code there. If you view the source, you will see that towards the end, they end it with the body, then the html tags. That's normal, but then they try to add more scripting, and then finally end with an unneeded body tag and a misplaced form tag...

Code:
</body>
</html>

<script> .......</script>

</form> this doesn't belong here
</body> this is not even needed

I can't get about half of my bookmarked pages to load today. All of them loaded yesterday, but today about half of them won't load. I tried using IE and Firefox. I use Firefox 95% of the time, and that's where I have the pages bookmarked. None of them are bookmarked in IE but they won't open in that browser either. I try typing the addresses into the address bar manually and they still won't load. Anyone have any idea what could be going on?

One other funny thing is that I can get to the Yahoo! front page, but can't get Yahoo! mail to load.

I use Verizon DSL and a wireless router. I connected direct without the router and had the same issue. Could Verizon be having issues getting to certain IP addresses?

My neighbor uses the cable company to get to the internet and he can load all of the pages without any issue.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I have a reasonably fast Dell box running XP SP3 Home. On 3/17/10 the web became unusable via BOTH Internet Explorer 8 (IE) and Firefox 3.5.8 (and now 3.6) (FF) because web pages either do not display at all or only display partially.

When I open FF, with a default home page of MSNBC.COM, the title changes to ?Breaking News, ?? (the usual MSNBC title) but the page remains blank. The progress indicator continues to rotate and the status remains ?Transferring data from www.msnbc.msn.com?? Sometimes the top part of the page will appear. If I click in the address area (highlighting the entire address) and press enter without stopping the previous attempt to display the page, then the page may appear, but not always. Repeating this a number of times usually causes the page to be displayed. Even then the page usually never truly completes. The progress indicator continues to rotate.

I discovered that, if I right-click and View Page Source, the entire page seems to be loaded and, one would think, available to the browser. This is true for BOTH IE and FF.

Clicking on additional links may display the new page, part of the new page, or none of it.

The problem does not depend on the complexity of the page. It occurs on simple pages like Google.com and the Hotmail login page as well as the MSNBC.COM page. The BleepingComputer.com page usually displays only about the top 2 inches, through the ?Welcome guest ? New Member? line.

My computer uses NTL broadband, or rather Virginmedia now, and I have done for a year or two now. I used to use IE exclusively, but decided to start using FF a few months ago. All was well, FF became my new default browser. Then I was surfing around when pages stopped loading on FF and MSN messenger closed, it does it every now and again but is pretty much always back up the next day, I did the usual things turned it on and off, refrshed everything but no hope. I tried loading FF a few hours later and it cmae up with a page titled "BIA computer Provisioning" it had an ntl logo and a big start button. Pressing the start button leads to nothing as it takes ages then stops. My mum prefers to use IE and when she opened it, she said the internet was fine, and on IE it was for some strange reason. Also, strangely, MSN messenger works as well, it;s only firefox that won't do a thing.I;d really rather use firefox than IE as FF is much quicker on my PC.Any help?

Answer:IE is fine, but Firefox won't load any pages

Try going to Tools and clear out your Private Data or Ctrl+Shift+Del.I get the same if that Provisioning screen appears.

If i hit refresh several times some will eventually load while others dont only to have the ones that dont start working 10 mins later. I've ran Antivirus, and spyware detectors and came up clean. Also cleared out all temp internet files, cookies, etc and ran windows washer to be sure. Download speeds are good, everything seems to be working fine except the browers. Tried reinstalling Firefox and its still the same. Any help would be appreciated..

Overnight, my Firefox browser stopped working. I uninstalled and updated to the latest version and it still is not working. It is as if something is blocking the browser from going anywhere on the web. IE is working, although I have concerns about the displays. Something smacks of a virus here. but Adaware and spybot have clean results. I have not changed my firewall settings at all since the last time I used firefox, yesterday.

It seems as if the problem has cleared itself up. Very strange!

GEEZ, now it's back again!

The URL line stays blank as well.

Can u help me plz? xD

EDIT1: I also try: /flushdns
/IE/Mozilla Resetting the options

Answer:IE and Firefox wont load some pages

If you can load some websites then the issue is with the websites your trying to connect to ie their servers are down, they no longer exist or they have changed their web address, if you cant load any websites at all then the issue is with your internet connection.

My problem is that Firefox will work fine for several hours and then it starts misbehaving. Not only facebook won't load and display properly, but Twitter.com and Amazon.com also stop working.

I am on an Asus Eee netbook that only has 1 gb of memory, but when I first started using this netbook in December I had no problems.

I have:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 GTB6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Firefox is using 206K
Evernot is using 34k

There are a total of 62 processes running

The only way I can get back into normal operation is to reboot.

Answer:Firefox pages won't load after several hours

Hi, welcome to TSF

You'll probably find that Firefox is actually using 206,000K (approx 200MB, 20% of your total RAM).

Reboot the computer, then hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Task Manager and click the Performance tab at the top. Make a note of the Total Physical Memory and Total Commit Charge when you first turn the computer on, and again when Firefox starts misbehaving. Post back with both sets of figures.

How many Firefox addons are running?

Have you tried clearing the cache? Tools > Clear Recent History, click the Details button, select 'Browsing & Download History' and 'Cache', then click the Clear Now button.

I've also been using Firefox on a 1GB Asus Eee XP netbook since December, but haven't had any problems with it so far (usually 5-10 tabs open). To get round the 1GB RAM restriction, I've installed a 4GB SD card into the slot on the right-hand side of the keyboard, and installed eBoostr which acts like ReadyBoost that is found in Vista and Windows 7. Programs start and run much quicker now. Might be worth looking into if you find 1GB RAM is going to be a problem when multitasking or browsing with several Firefox tabs open.

Hi there,

I've been using firefox for the past 8 months or so and i've been really happy with it, and have experienced no problems whatsoever. I use it everyday and including last night when I went to check my gmail and I got the Alert error-"gmail.google.com cannot be found. Please check the name and try again" So I thought it might have been my broadband connection-but I could access gmail via IE6. I've checked my firewall and anti-virus settings and all appears to be fine. Ive re booted the machine and uninstalled and reinstalled firefox but i cannot access any pages through it. It's sooooo frustrating!!! Any ideas on even why this is happening would be terrific!

The same problem occurs when i try to use IE.

i have created a new profile in firefox and deleted all my cache and temporary files. None of it has helped.

i called dell and they said it might be a virus or malware. They wanted me to pay additional for them to find out but i declined.

i hope someone on here can help because i have not been able to use my computer all day.

I hope someone can help me out.

I can't open any sites in IE. However, Firefox just without a hitch. All other programs can access the Internet too. I did the basics like running the network wizard, yada yada yada. Checked the Hosts file, clean. Ran spyware/adware removal apps (found none... since Firefox rocks!). No virus'. Turned off firewall. Am I missing something here perhaps?

Here's what i got:
- Win XP SP2
I think i've got all the updates - but can't check since IE wont open.
- D-Link ethernet card, going through SMC router to Cable Modem.

if there's anything else you need to know, just ask

Any suggestions would really be great!

In the last week or so (can't say exactly how long) when my computer wakes from sleep. Firefox seems to have difficulty reconnecting to pages that are already open, often showing an error message, and shows a 'connecting' message for ages when I refresh. Even if I close the tab and open a new one, it still struggles.
The only way to avoid this is to close Firefox and open it again and the problem ceases. I've been using Firefox for years without this ever happening before, so is anyone aware of any change? Using Firefox 25.0.1

I've been slowly recovering from a nasty virus on my netbook. I think I got the rootkit out of the way. I'm still seeing random pages loading on their own in Firefox. And, ever since it was first infected, Google Chrome stopped working. Chrome will load up just fine. But, entering any URL and hitting enter does nothing. The spinning 'now loading' icon on the tab doesn't even start.

Here's a HJT log for now. What other info could I provide for you guys? Thanks a lot!

Hi all - I just want to preface that I am a newbie and a beginner but I know my way around the cpu a bit. My problem in a nutshell is that I have a cable modem through Time Warner Cable Roadrunner Service. My internet connection is hard wired and the connection is very very strong, however, everytime I open either internet explorer (8.0) or Mozilla Firefox (3.6) the pages either do not load at all, load halfway and timeout, or fully load if given an extraordinary amount of time (10+ minutes). This happens with every page, not just a few.

I've run multiple scans for viruses through AGFree and Malwarebytes and the computer is virus free, but still no change. Temp Internet Files are clear, and I've unchecked proxy settings under LAN like someone suggested. I've defragged the computer and I only just now downloaded firefox in the event this was only a IE problem (obviously now I know it is not). I've tried disabling my firewall and still nothing. I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. It has an 80gig hard-drive and 71 gigs are free. The computer has a fast processor (im not sure how fast) and programs run very quick, save for the internet. The computer was donated to me by my dad, so I don't have a lot of history on it.

Anything anyone can do to help me would be so appreciated. I have been at the computer for DAYS and cant figure it out. I'm currently using a work laptop with a remote broadband USB and that's how I am a... Read more

I am connected to the internet fine via cable, but I acnnot get any webpages to load. My preferred browser is FF, but I've installed the latest versions of IE and Chrome to try them, and they don't work either.
I experienced a (strange) gradual and random deteriortion of my browsing - first FF struggled with Yahoo and Facebook, then Youtube and any video content, images, and now everything is down.

I tried taking the computer to work, and it connects fine there both by cable and wireless...(?!) But I called my ISP and we did a few successful ping tests and they say my home connection is fine...

I have tried the following:

- Thorough check for and clean-up of malware (pretty confident the computer is clean now).
- Tried firefox in safe mode with no luck so assume the problem is not an add-on.
- Installed latest Adobe Flash Player and Reader and Java
- Have cleared the cache, run ATF Cleaner, and tried to clear all temp files of any description...

None of this has had any effect on the problem... Please help!
Cheers.

Hi all!!

This is my first time on a forum so please excuse me if i do not give enough information. Let me know and i'll post it again

My problem is related to the Internet Browsers Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. One day I opened my Laptop as usual and Mozilla Firefox wouldn't open any webpage. It simply said 'done' in the bottom left hand corner. Sometimes it would open a page but it will be painfully slow and the pictures and videos wouldn't load at all.

Skype and Messenger connect but are extremely slow and it seems that the wirless connection is only receiving half of the packets it sends.....

I really am at a loss with this. I have no trace of Norton Anti Virus anywhere on my laptop. (after searching through a basic find file and folders search on my computer). In addition The windows firewall allows Mozilla Firefox and the proxy settings are all ok (Unchecked). Is there a chance that this could be a virus??

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks a lot !

Dan

If I connect to my work VPN, then IE refuses to load any pages (inside the work network or outside). It doesn't even appear to try, just goes immediately to "Internet Explorer cannot display this page." I was able to connect to the computer with teamviewer remotely, name resolution worked properly, I was able to ping the web server etc. all fine, even brought the page up in FF and Chrome with no problems. I turned off all add-ins and restarted IE, same deal. If I disconnect from the VPN then IE works fine again.

I was running IE9, I tried uninstalling it but having the same issue with IE8.

Dear helpers,

Recently, I've noticed that firefox loads certain pages slower. When this 1st happened, I tried explorer, but it also load slowly. Chrome sometimes loads these pages fast, but other times hang. When firefox hang for a certain page it simply says "waiting for pagename.com". I'm quite sure the problem is in my computer and more specifically with browsers, since I can get good speeds and download files fast (using bittorent and such). also, I tried to connect the computer to a different network, and got the same behavior with my computer, whereas an other computer on that network loaded the same pages I tried very fast (at the same time I tried).
When I work in safe mode with networking the "problematic" pages load at lightening speeds!
I tried to run combofix and it helped, but after a few days the problem returned, and now combofix won't help anymore...
I hope that makes any sense to you, and that you guys at the forum would have some ideas.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hello generous friends,

Something is wrong and I do not know enough to fix it. My firefox will no longer use google search, nor load certain specific websites such as amazon, myspace, gmail... however, it will load other pages. I tried reinstalling firefox - after the reinstall I used google search successfully a couple of times, then experienced the same problem. I'll enter a search term and the browser just will not load, same with the other pages mentioned - it will just tell me it's loading but never load.

This computer is a bit old and likely has some virus issues... here is a Hijack log if you are will to help. Thank You!

Hi
I have a weird set of problems remaining on my system. I have Microsoft Securities Essentials running which has already removed bunch of malware and virus' however despite MSE thinking my computer is clean it is not.

I have internet access with Explorer 7 but Firefox won't bring up any pages. I get a Connection Reset error.
Window Update after trying to load an activeX control fails on the download so I can not do a windows update.
MSE can't load new definitions - It gets an error that it does not have permission to get onto the internet
And Lastly I get random pop-ups of advertising when running Explorer 7.

I read on the site to run DDS and Root Repeal and post the logs here so they are listed below. Anyone who can help me, please respond. This computer is almost back in working order and I would love it to be running perfect again.

Thanks
Neil

Hello! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. In order to see what's going on with your computer I'll ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process. Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:Link 1Link 2Link 3Important!You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an Malware Removal Expert, not for private use.Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. Make sure that you save ComboFix.exe to your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

I am having issues lately with Firefox. This isnt constant but happens intermittently waiting to load for 10 minutes then loading and working well for a few minutes before slowing to a crawl again. All pages load fine in IE when I test it at the same time.

Test pages were:
myspace
google
wikipedia
192.168.1.1 - router page

All 4 showed loadtime in firefox. I started firefox in safe mode and also had the same issues with wait times. I dont know why it is just firefox and why it happens intermittently.

A related issue is music or youtube videos would stop playing after I played my first song or video. With youtube videos, the whole video downloads but would freeze after 2 seconds of playing. Works fine in IE, issue only happens in Firefox but corrects when I close and reopen browser.

Maybe reinstalling browser would fix it, but I would like to know why it is happening.

I am not running any firewall.
I am running 2 codec packs, ffdshow and vista codec pack.
cant think of anything else.

Hey chrisdab,

Sounds like it could be anything. I think you'd be better off with a new install than waste time trying to isolate the problems.

If you're running any nightlies you should expect some backward steps at times. What version of Firefox are you running? (Help > about)

Recently, I've been having problems with Firefox, no pages will load, (all that comes up is Page not found). I uninstalled and reinstalled it but it still did not work. IE7 works perfectly. I even tried another version of Firefox (older version and newer version), none of which seems to work. Also, I have been having issues with a strange Automatic Update icon that shows up and asks me to restart my PC every time I log in (even though I've already restarted my PC multiple times.) This message is identical to the Genuine Microsoft update message except that the timer counting down until it the system automatically restarts is not present. These events have led me to believe that I have an infection on my PC.

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

Go ahead and turn off the computer and unplug it from the wall and remove any hardware or USB devices that you might have added to it and by that I mean USB thumbdrives, printer, etc. Let's have this PC only have the essential parts (mouse/kb/onboard graphics card) attached to it so we can quickly and effectively resolve the issue. Now, with the computer unplugged from the wall, press on the power button and release after 5 seconds. Now plug it in and turn on the computer. What happens now? Please do not try anything else at this point but simply report back to me and I will provide you with the next steps.

Recently my laptop has not been loading some web pages such as ,Facebook. Ebay and Microsoft. Microsoft update just times out for example.
I've scanned for malware virus etc and also reformatted and reinstalled / updated all software. Also bought a new adsl modem.
Tried using Firefox and IE 8.
Tried disabling Avast and Zonealarm as well.

It doesn't matter if I use a lan or wireless the result is the same.

I have also hooked up a desktop with the same software ( browser etc ) run over lan and it works fine.

Fujitsu Lifebook S6410
Win XP sp3
Centrino Duo

I hope that you can help as I'm running out of ideas.

Thank you

Hi, this problem just popped up a couple days ago, but neither IE or Firefox 3 will load google.ca or mail.com. Everything else seems to work fine. I can get to google if I go to google.com, even though it just links me to .ca. I did some searching, and it sounds like it might be a virus problem of some sort. I've tried doing a system restore to before the problems cropped up, and I've tried the solutions you've listed, as well as tried some things listed on other webpages. No virus scanner finds anything wrong on the computer, so here's my log files from hijackthis. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
My MSI CR720 every so often doesnt load past the bios on startup. It runs the bios screen, then the screen goes black and two little white lines appear at the top left, normally they go away and the OS loads but for some reason they somtimes just stay there and nothing happens.
This has happened 4 times within a week, it started about 1 week ago although i cant remember what i changed to the laptop that would cause this issue other than recently i have been installing and playing many old games (age of empires, freelancer and others) which i have to run in compatability mode. My last install was Battle for Middle Earth 2.
I keep a system image backup as well as a third party backu on an external hard drive.
I have also added a partition to my hard drive by shrinking a section of it. I was running out of space on my C:OS partition so i created another and moved documents to it. (i read up about it and its possible this is what is causing my laptop to fail on startup?).
Help would be much appreciated in tracking down the issue as soon as possible as i need my laptop for my uni course! :(
Specs:
Windows 7 64bit
Intel i5 M480 2.67GHz
4 GB DDR3 ram
~300GB Hard drive - partitioned into 3 parts - C:OS is 172GB, D:Data is 66.3GB and my new partition H: 48.8GB.
Ive attached a DXDiag file.

When I go to my display properties, and go to the appearance tab and try to load the scheme for XP, it says that it cannot find the file and no details are listed. I am stuck with the Windows Classic visual style, and I would like to be able to go back to my XP.

Answer:[SOLVED] XP Visual Style fails to load

I don't know if you are comfortable doing this, but the UXTheme Multipatcher (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...iPatcher.shtml) will allow you to use any theme you want, and I'm sure there is an XP theme somewhere. If you don't want to do that, check your directory /Windows/Resources/Themes and see if you find the Luna visual style there. If not, I could certainly e-mail you with it.

I have Vista Premium installed as the upgrade from Hp since I bought this computer right before the Vista release. It is a Hp Pavilion a1637c, 3GB memory, 500 GB WD Hard Drive, AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4200. I was having problems when burning ANYTHING to DVD's or CD's. The DVD/CD RW stops responding, locking up the computer. Only thing to do is push the power button to restart. (Can burn if I restart first but have this problem!) Now when I try to restart, it appears to be fully loaded but won't open any folders on the desktop nor the internet. The circle just keeps going around and all I can do is hit the button again to restart. To get it to fully load, I have to go into Safe Mode and do a System Restore. What can be causing this?

Answer:[SOLVED] Vista fails to completely load.

Answer:[SOLVED] Unable to load any pages in IE 8

Are you running Internet Explorer 8?

Try enabling compatibility mode. It is the broken page icon next to the refresh button on the toolbar.

If that doesn?t work, run IE in No Add-ons Mode. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) - If this fixes the issue, then go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons and enable the add-ons one by one to find which one was causing the problem.

You can also try resetting Internet Explorer's settings by going to Tools > Internet Options and then the "Advanced" tab, and click "Reset..."

If you?re still not having any luck, I recommend you reinstall IE8 on your system.

I hope this solves your problem!

Cheers,
Bryn

My IE7 is taking 60 to 90 seconds to load up to my home page. It then takes 40-60 seconds to load any other page. When I use Firefox I do not have this problem, it loads pages quickly. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I have also cleaned up any spyware, run disk cleanup, and defragged the hard drive, all with no effect. Any ideas?
