Computer Support Forum

Certain websites load very slowly.

Question: Certain websites load very slowly.

First, thanks.

I have a relatively new Windows desktop with XP. I have a DSL connection.

My computer boots fine, applications start right up and many websites load very quickly: My Google home page, Drudge Report, this forum, etc.

Some websites load a little slower but still at a very acceptable rate: mlb.com, espn.com, nytimes.com, etc.

Some websites seem to hang and load painfully slowly. Unfortunately many are newspaper and other sites that I'd like to visit often, LATimes.com, baltimoresun.com, si.com, cbsnews.com, etc.

On my kids' computer (virtually the same system) about 10 feet away on the same DSL connection, these websites load fine.

Here's my log (dss.exe did not create an extra.txt file when I just ran it. Attached is the file that it created earlier today when I posted my log to a different forum. They couldn't figure out what was happening and referred me here):

Preferred Solution: Certain websites load very slowly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Certain websites load very slowly.

Bump.

Thanks.

I noticed late last night..no IPv6 connection, only IPv4. and from that, some web pages load very slowly. I checked download /upload speed and registered very abnormal results. download: 5.25% and upload: 1.90% the normal stats would be download: 95.78% and upload: 6.88% -something like that. any clues to what is going on? of course comcast is to blame.

Answer:no IPv6 connection -websites load very slowly

Most likely because your provider does not use 6 over 4 Tunneling. The only thing that uses IPv6, is Home Group and that is only on the Local Network. As for being slow, you need to put up a copy of your speedtest from speedtest.net with the best server (try to use AT&T's) for the test. Also you can run IPv6 test - IPv6/4 connectivity and speed test, which will let you know how well your ISP allows IPv6 connections over their network. Some web browsers like Chrome will come back with an error. Ignore it.

Internet access is very slow. It takes up to 3 minutes to get a page to load, and I have to hit 'Reload' 2-3 times before a site finally loads. When it does, Firefox still shows the site as loading. This problem appeared after one of three events. On the same day, I downloaded Babylon and FoxLingo. I have uninstalled both, and removed and remaining registry entries. I also received an email from my fan site on Ning (I am an author) requesting approval for a blog post. The link took me to my fan site, but there was no blog posted. I discovered it was the usual spam for male enhancement drugs, but perhaps it was hiding a more malicious virus. I cleaned up my Ning site and notified them. I have had the problem since. I ran AdAware and AVG, and only came up with minor cookies. I also ran SDFix, including catchme, and got 0 hits. I ran Malwarebytes, which only showed the SDFix files and 2 low-level threats. I also ran HiJackThis, but the log showed nothing that should not be present. All that leads me here. I have followed the procedure in the Prep Guide. FYI-I had to run GMER 3 times. It caused my system to freeze the first two times it finished scanning, which took over 10 hours. Outside of the Internet, my computer runs other software smoothly. I have a brand new ASUS MB, 500GBHD, AMD chip and 4GB DD2 memory-less than 3 months old. I'm having this issue with very slow loading of specific websites. It's not random websites that load slowly, its specific, reoccurring sites that always load slow (I'm talking 3 minutes to load eBay).

It's not my Internet speed since I've done speed tests, and tons of equally large websites load instantly. I'm thinking that these slow loading sites share some type of web development tool or have something in common. Maybe you can help me out by telling me if these sites have anything in common as far as web architecture that might narrow down the problem.

So far I've done speed techniques with Firefox's about:config such as enabling pipelining and max_requests. That did nothing. I also, of course, cleared my cache, cookies

Here's the list so far (at least 2 minutes to download, if not more)

- Gmail (Google and other Google apps like docs load fine)
- eBay
- Facebook
- PureVolume.com

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Firefox Loads Certain Websites Very Slowly

I am having the same problem on my desk top but not my wifes lap top. this site takes minutes to load http://www.jsonline.com/index/index.aspx?id=44 on the desk top. All other sites load fine. I am no expert but I can usually figure out computer problems. I regularly clean up memory and registry and run scans for all types of bad stuff, viruses/spyware etc, so I don't think that's the problem. This one has me baffled.

It does also load slowly on explorer, I tried it out just to be sure.

thx

Hello, I just recently upgraded to Mozilla Firefox 46.01, after resisting for quite some time by staying with 43.0.4.  Since then, my websites have been loading noticeably slower.  Sometimes even my typing or scrolling is delayed one or two seconds.

It is hard for me to tell if this is because of the new browser, or if my computer caught some type of infection around the same time, so I wanted to test for the latter if possible.  Thank you in advance for any help.  My operating system is Windows 7 Pro.

Answer:Websites loading slowly-- possible infection?

I also have Windows 7 Pro.  What happened when you rolled back to version 43?  Did you regain your normal browsing operations?  [If you haven't tried the rollback, I'm suggesting trying it; I've rolled back many a Firefox versions over the years!  After some time has passed, after the plugins, extensions, addons are recognized by the newest version [at the particular time] -- then I let the upgrade stand.  Sometimes in the past, an upgrade slowed me way down!  So, I rolled back to a previous version.  Presently, I'm at FF 39.x; using Chrome 95% of the time since last year.

For some odd reason, these websites will not load yet it still says it is connected. Also, I believe there is no problem with my Internet provider because I am currently typig this from my iPod Touch which is connected to the wireless router. I need help soon. Please and thank you.

Two websites that I use are suddenly taking a few mins longer to open than usual, and when they do eventually open everything is listed in bullet points to the left, layout is all in a list. Pictures are not opening. It's happening on hotmail and another site I use. I know it's not a problem with the website as my husband can access my hotmail account without any problems from his work. I have done a system restore, deleted all history under Internet Tools (using IE), Have tried using Chrome instead. Scanned, changed security levels. Checked with my Internet Connection Provider.

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

Answer:Users are unable to load websites - no error, just 1-hour+ load times for pages

I believe I have the same problem that it seems a lot of people on this forum have and that is when I do google searches every 10-15th time i click a link i get redirected to an ad page. Also I run a website and my site loads noticeably slower on my computer than my brothers even though we are on the same network, I am hoping that the redirect problem is causing this as well. I apologize for being a computer noob and not simply following the instructions in the other threads of users having my same problem. I have tried running countless anti-virus problems but so far nothing has worked. Your help is greatly appreciated as I don't want to reformat my computer.

Thanks for your help

Answer:Certain websites wont load, or they take very long to load.

It appears that you have already posted a hijackthis log here. Please be patient while waiting for assistance. HJT Helpers are all volunteers regardless where you post a log. While waiting for a response, you should not ask for help elsewhere or make changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc.) Any modifications you make on your own can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the HJT Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you be patient while awaiting a reply and refrain from asking for help elsewhere. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the HJT Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. If you still need assistance after your log has been reviewed and you have been cleared, please start a new topic. If you have any questions, please PM me or another moderator. Thanks for your cooperation.

I use firefox as my browser. Lately some websites either won't load or take in upwards of 20 minutes. My virus scanner keeps catching virus's. I have run my virus scanner(CA VIRUS SCANNER), ad-aware, spybot, spysubtract, and superantispyware, they all cuaght something the first run through but now come up clean. i then browsed the forums here and found a similar post. I tried some of the suggestions there, which were to repair my network connection in the control panel, and to set firefox's network connection to autodetect, these seem to have helped but some sites are still slow particularly pogo games(my wife)pogo.com loads up fine it's the popup game windows that have the problem. thanks for any help.

Hello everyone!
I'm a Vienamese student. My family bought a new PC two months ago.It has a giga G31m main and an E4600 core 2 duo 2.4 ghz chip.It worked well until recently I install windows vista x86 again. At first,It took me about 15 seconds to start working. But after I installed Mz vista force and Netspeeder,It begined taking me over 1 min to load window although I have restored window to the time before(the long green button runs for 25 times!)I'm very tired of waiting for vista loads as well as ireinstall it.Can any one give me some advice? thanks.

Answer:window load too slowly.

Hi daretofail, and welcome to the vista forums,

when you say you restored vista to the time before was this by un-installing the software?

it may be that the software has left a some component set to run at stertup which is causing the delay.

you may want to check your start-up entries

Since yesterday internet Explorer 6 takes two to two and a half minutes to load URLs which I have typed in.  What I find puzzling is that sites listed in 'Favourites' come up quickly.  For example if I type www.bbc.co.uk I would get this c.2 min delay but as it's in my Favourites list it comes up in a few seconds which doesn't seem logical to me.  I have XP with 512 Kb RAM, AMD Athlon 2.2 GHz chip and ISP is provided by cable.   Any suggestions what I can do please ?

Answer:Web pages load slowly

First thing I'd do is update your version of Windows by visiting Windows Update and downloading the high-priority updates for your computer.  If you're running IE 6, then you're definitely behind the times.  Keeping your system up-to-date is a regular part of routine maintenance. The next thing I'd do is to run Disk Clean Up and a Defrag.Lastly...I'd make sure my malware protection is up-to-date and run fullsystem scans in Safe Mode.  When done...run them again normally. You can also select which programs you want to run at Startup by running msconfig in the RUN command line.

Answer:Web Pages Load Slowly

Hello there,

Please take a look at this article: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/87058/slow-computerbrowser-check-here-first;-it-may-not-be-malware/

Also, it's not recommended running multiple Anti-viruses as this can cause the slowness in your machine. You'll will be totally fine with running just one AV.

Hope this helps!

Windows XP , webpages either load very slowly or not at all. I have AOL as my ISP. I have cleared the cache under tools in IE, cleared cache on System information, and Java cache. I have also performed a "quick restore". I have plenty of Ram.
I have Google chrome and IE8. I also have Computer checkup with AOL
that cleans the registry weekly. I do not do a lot of surfing, maybe 10
websites a day.
I do play several games on Facebook.
Can anyone give me any ideas? I am on a broadband connection.
Frustrated in MS>

Answer:Webpages Load Slowly

AOL does not offer Broadband connection, so they are not the ISP for your broadband connection, and you don't even need AOL. Try using IE outside of AOL (once logged on, minimize the AOL interface and start IE). Check your broadband connection speed by going to speedtest.net if it is below 1mbps then you are using dial-up speed. Talk to your broadband ISP.

I recently replaced my Dell with Windows 7 with a new Dell laptop with Windows 8.1. I am taking online classes. I have noticed that both my wichita.edu and kumc.edu pages load slowly, including the opening pages, and any links (before or after password entered). Videos load slowly (not from other sites). I downloaded an Endnote program that typically takes 5-10 minutes to download. It took 2.5 hours this morning. I have found:
The same thing happens on Chrome, IE, and Firefox.
I did not have this issue before with my previous computer (windows 7)
I have an Ipad. Both sites load quickly on the Ipad.
The desktop computer I use at work loads both sites quickly.
I have called Dell, who had me return WIndows 8.1 to the original settings, no change.
I have cleaned the cache and flushed DNS cache, and emptied recyling bin, no change.
I have contacted microsoft windows, and have reset IE, no change.
I have contacted the tech help at the .edu sites, without assistance other than the above, no change.
I changed the preferred and alternate DNS server (due to a tip I read on this site), no change.
Microsoft wants to charge me to diagnose my new computer.
Other .edu sites (that I don't have a connected password with) load quickly.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Question: pages load slowly

I've had a cable tech out here: modems fine, fast speed to computer etc. Tech hooked up his laptop to my modem and the pages were smokin!
I ran system mechanic(optimize connection and internet speeds) and winsock fix and the problem remains. The pages will download fast to begin with but within 5 minutes I'm back to 10-12 seconds to download a page. Looking for suggestions. My cache is cleaned daily, regular defrags, registry fix etc. I run zone alarm but the problem remains running or not, IE or Mozilla; doesn't matter. Thanks

Hi. About a week or so ago, web pages started loading very when I am on the internet. Hello jparker59 and welcome to the BC malware forum. I don't see any issues in the log related to viruses or malware. There is an item with a missing entry so let's remove that first.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missingNow close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.Ok. Here's a couple of things for you to try.Download CleanUp! and install it. Start CleanUp! and do the following:Click the Options button.Make sure only the following are checked:Empty Recycle BinsDelete CookiesDelete Prefetch files (XP only)Scan local drives for temporary filesCleanup! All UsersClick the Ok button to close the Opetions dialog.Click the CleanUp! button to run the cleanup. It may take a while depending on the size of the hard drive so be patient. When it has finished, close CleanUp!.If that doesn't help then try completely uninstall all of the Symantec/Norton products. Sometimes it gets a process or service stuck and it plays havoc with the processing. After it is completely uninstalled, reboot and then install it fresh. Don't forget to update the definistions again.Cheers.OT

I have been having a problem loading pdf files ; they seem to load a line at a time. I have been using the Sumatra reader. I also tried a FoxIt reader with the same results. Every now and then ,I get a message telling me that the pdf reader is not the best and I should get a better one but it seems the reader is functioning in that respect.

Is the slowness a function of the reader software or the computer?

I also have a netbook with windows 7 starter and I used the same pdf readers and it functions fast.

I did not download adobe because it seems to take up a lot of room with daily alerts to upgrade. I just want to read a pdf file.

Hi, I am new here and I would like to thank you in advance for trying to help me. I'm new to a lot of things, so I will try my best to explain the problem.
I own a Dell Inspiron E1505 that runs on Windows XP Home Media Center Edition.
It has 1.66 GHz, with 0.99 GB of RAM. My web page browser is Internet Explorer 7. Please let me know if you need more information.

The problem occurs when I try to open a new web browser. The page opens, but it takes 5 to 10 minuets to load. Once it has loaded I can navigate around a whole site without it being slow at all, until you hit a hyperlink directing you to another web site. Then it has to take a while to load again. This happens every time I try and open new "tabs" on the web browser too. It also happens with every type of web page I try to load, even if I had loaded it before, exited out, and tried to revisit it.
Occasionally, when I try to open more than three tabs at a time, the web browser closes on itself, which means I have to open a new one and wait for everything to load again. This was never a problem before, as it may have taken a few seconds to load the page, but never more than a minuet or two.

These things started two days ago by themselves, and I have added no new programs or hardware since then. It took me by surprise, as it was all working fine, and has been for a while. It is only my web browser that is working slowly, the rest of the computer is working up to its usual speed.

Some things I have tried ... Read more

To begin with, thank God for Major Geeks. You do great work. Thank you.

I am trying to help a friend with his Compaq desktop computer, AMD Athlon, 1.1 gigahertz, 256 Megabytes RAM, running Wiundows XP Professional, build 2600.

My friend complained that he could not get online (Optimum Online cable service).
Internet Explorer would not explore ) ). AOL 9,0 wouldn't load.
Computer in general performing poorly (slow).

On my own computer I downloaded Stinger, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG (the anti-virus application), and Spysweeper. I put these on a CD.

I ran all these applications on my friend's computer.

Stinger found and fixed one virus in a file named sounds.exe. Wish I could remember the name of the virus. Stinger fixed the problem by deleting sounds.exe.

SBOT S & D found a bunch of spyware, all of which was removed.

AVG found 78 files infected with 75 viruses. All but 3 of the viruses were removed. The remaining 3 were put into the Virus Vault.

Ad-Aware SE Personal found 577 new critical objects. All were removed.

I used Add/Remove Programs to remove AOL 9.0. With a new CD I obtained I reinstalled AOL 9.0. That didn't fix the AOL problem. AOL still loads very slowly after I click on its shortcut and hangs when it get to the point where it says Updating AOL Database (100%)... After a while an empty white rectangular box appears and remains ad infinitum.

Internet Explorer will not hold our chosen home page. It keeps redire... Read more

Hello All,
I'll apologise right now if I have this in the wrong forum and if so could someone point me in the right direction.

I've found that our internet is running very slow, meaning when I call up a web page (ie msn.com) it takes forever to load. It used to be superfast.
Everything else on my computer seems to work fine. (ie opening documents or programs)

Chaslang had helped me awhile back to deal with a malware issue and also directed me to "How to protect yourself from Malware", so I know my system is clean.

Could the issue possible be with Zone Alarm which I have on my computer?

Any suggestions or direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Assuming you've got a cable modem? Reset your modem by unplugging it completely (power and from puter to modem). Let it sit for a minute or two, then reconnect and turn on your modem. This resets it, and will usually clear up such symptoms if they hadn't been there previously.

If you have dial-up internet, try moving your modem card to a different slot. It's possible it's trying to use an IRQ that's conflicting with something else in your computer. Not possitive a conflict would effect connection in that way, so I'm betting you are on a cable server.

Hi all,   I received my HP notebook with Windows 8.1 for Christmas this past year. So my computer is 4 months old. It ran like lighting out of the box until recently. On March 24th, I was on Yahoo messenger and it froze. I restarted it and it ran fine again for a while, then seemed to slow down and videos were now choppy and slow to load. Any downloads are very slow and web pages load very slowly.    I had some malware issues but have since cleaned them all up. Still, my web pages load slowly. Occasionally, for some reason, the notebook reverts to it's old form and is blazing fast again, but if it is shut off or restarted, it is slow to load again.   My apps seem to load fine and quickly, but my internet is slow. My provider is Charter and my speed is 60 mbs,  But anything with video or animation is very slow.   I am at wits end. Is there any help here before I break down and just take it to a shop? I would appreciate any help I can get.   Paul

Hello there and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Just some real quick questions.

- Are you running Ethernet or Wireless?
- If you are on Wireless, are you able to test the connection on another computer?
- If you are on Ethernet, are you able to get another Ethernet cable to test?

You do not need to take it to the shops, they charge you a bunch for a few minutes work. I would just endure it for a day or two more.

Do  a quick scan with AdwCleaner and check if there is any malicious files that are messing around with your computer
AdwCleaner: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

After you reboot your computer and save your Log, please post the log here.

Also, please do a scan with ESET Online Scanner.

Thanks,

When I try to view online flash videos, the playback is always slow to buffer and often choppy. YouTube usually buffers well, but gives choppy playback. Other sites where you can watch videos (nbc, cbs, comedy central) will only ever play around 2 minutes of a video before having to buffer again, no matter how long I wait before. I know it's not the connection because my friend's computer plays videos flawlessly from the same connection, and it's not because of the browser (IE does work better than firefox, but still not well). I have Flash 10 installed. Any ideas on what could be causing the trouble or am I just out of luck? Thanks for any responses.

So I recently deleted a bunch of old files (documents, pictures, .exe) from my computer. Since I've done that my computer has been loading things much slower than normal. For example browser pages load slower, pictures on facebook take longer to load up, youtube/espn videos are slower to load, loading into a game takes much longer than before. However once I'm in the actual game, the game runs fine, or once the video has begun to buffer, it buffers at the same rate it always has (as far as i can tell.) This has me believe that it's not internet related. I'm concerned I might have deleted something I should not have but I do not know what I'm looking for. I recently ran a malware scan and cleared that out, I'm not sure why this tsg sysinfo says my windows defender is disabled, I have it open as I type this and it says that it my real time protection is on. Just ran a scan on it too and no threats were detected. Desktop is 2 years old and custom built.

Hi All,
I am having a problem with Java games taking forever to load (pogo games). The games on Club Pogo usually take 5-10 seconds to load and now are taking minutes to load.
I have tried the usual stuff - Clearing java / browser cache, uninstall & reinstall java... Even have tried older versions and nothing seems to work. I know it's not a problem with Pogo because the games load perfectly on other computers. I have even used a virtual PC with Windows XP on it and the java games load instantly as they should.

I have made an observation though - If I open up the java console on any other computer (or the virtual one), the messages showing the games loading fly by and the game loads. On this slow one the console messages go much slower.

The computer is running Windows 7 64-bit. I use Firefox mostly, and yes the slowness of Java happens in all browsers.

Any ideas on fixing this would be great. It's probably something really stupid..

Answer:Java Applets load slowly

UPDATE
I tried booting into safe mode and doing a virus scan and defrag from there. Then I decided to try and load a java game there, and guess what - it loaded instantly! When I booted back into normal windows, the games take forever again. I've played around with disable antivirus (AVG), McAfee Site Advisor, Windows Firewall, etc etc but nothing yet. Any idea of what the problem is? It's like something is scanning all the files as they are downloaded, slowing the download time... but even disabling the services for AVG and such hasn't changed a thing.

I noticed that while watching a video that it will pause after a few seconds with a loading symbol on the screen and then continue on and keeps repeating this until completed. My computer was okay before but I think it took a windows update and the settings changed. What should I do?

Answer:Videos load slowly after XP update

This is not uncommon, it is caused by limited download speeds and can be down to many reasons....

Videos continually increase their resolution, and don't care that people's download speeds don't increase as quickly.

Your ISP may throttle your download speed at certain times of day because so many other users are doing immense amounts of downloading. And not just on your local exchange, but down the national pipelines too.

If you have a wireless network, make sure a neighbour is not 'borrowing' some of your download capacity.

A windows update can change your system properties and you have little chance of finding it, MS may actually replace your network driver without asking you. But by all means reinstall the latest network driver you can find. Also check out the properties of your network to make sure as many available settings are giving you the optimal performance. I know this can be difficult to determine, particularly as there is no general advice available.

Hello, I'm running xp home, and have recently been having problems with programs opening very slowly.

When I go to start a program, it takes from 30 seconds to a minute 1/2 to load up, this wasn't the case a few weeks ago.

I did a hijackthis session a couple weeks ago thinking it was a virus problem, but that has not fixed it.

Also, I have never been able to update windows. Up untill a few weeks ago I didn't care, but with the suggestions from the hi jack this people, they suggest updating.

When I try to update I get an unexplained error:

For quite a few weeks, my internet has been loading pages very slowly. There is no problem with the download speed, but each page it goes to takes long to load and this has never happened before. Doing a speed test on speedtest.com showed no problem with the internet speed. Resetting my modem, scanning viruses on my laptop, flushing dns, using registry fixers and switching off my firewall didn't help. I've tested the internet using other laptops and it was normal, so I'm sure the problem is with my laptop.

A week before this happened, my laptop was attacked by a malware "xp antivirus pro 2013", but I solved it with the registry fixing software and Malwarebytes. After fixing the virus, I realised that my bluetooth rfcomm driver, and dvd/cd-rom drive driver, microsoft kernel audio splitter and mixer drivers, apple usb driver had some problems, which were auto-fixed subsequently other than the bluetooth rfcomm driver. I currently still currently encounter the problem of being unable to sync my ipod nano with my itunes. After the incident, I cannot open my firewall settings, which I also solved. I'm not sure if the virus or the solution messed the registry or anything because this internet problem only occurred a week after that saga.

I cannot do a system recovery because the earliest possible backdate is after this problem occurred. I cannot reformat my laptop because I don't have the Windows installation CD. So does anyone have a clue to my ... Read more

Hi!

I would like to seek some advice... I recently bought an ultrabook with Windows 8.1. It hasn't even been a month yet but it seems like the system is getting more and more laggy. Moreover, apps such as the Music App keeps crashing, or takes several minutes to open.

I tried a solution from some other forums which is to download the Apps Diagnostic tool from Microsoft, but it keeps telling me that:
a) Windows store cache and licenses may be corrupt - I reset it but the Store app also takes forever to load and doesn't seem to do anything;
b) Display adapter drivers might be out of date - hardware changes might not have been detected "detected" -but not "fixed";
c) The diagnostic tool claims that the troubleshooter has made some changes to my system, but the issues of "Windows store configuration might be damaged" and "Device drivers might be out of date" are only detected but not fixed. The issues it claims to have fixed are "Service registration is missing or corrupt" and "Windows Store cache may be damaged"

But the computer remains laggy and appears to be getting worse...

Would appreciate any help on this please, thanks! My comp's specs are as follows:

Hi. About a two weeks or so ago, web pages started loading very when I am on the internet. For example, cnn.com takes about 20 to 30 seconds to load fully after the browser has indicated it has found the page. I have not installed any new software recently. I checked my DSL speed on CNET and one other location, and it is fine (close to 3Mbps). I ran numerous virus scans and other malware scans in safe and normal mode and found nothing. I downloaded Firefox and tried it, and it does the same thing. I downloaded Netscape and it too does the same thing. My DSL service provider tells me it is not them (although I am not totally convinced of this.

I ran a HighjackThis log and posted in that forum here, and OldTimer respoded. I tried everything he suggested, and he could not fix the problem and is pretty sure it is not being casued by any malware on my computer. I also, at OldTimer's suggestion, uninstalled all my Norton/Symantec programs and that did not speed up the web pages (I have since reinstalled it for protection).

I run Windows XP on a Dell computer that is less than a year old. Does anyone out there have any ideas on what might be wrong?

Thanks for any help anyone might be able to give me.

Had your same issue a few days ago I ran all the usual scans Adaware, Spybot, CW Shreder, Hijackthis, and Microsoft Antispyware. None of theese helped either. After running netstat -a from the command prompt I discovered several ports were being used by programs and Ip addresses I didn't know. I did a little digging and discoverd a trojan and this is the way I removed it. http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.htmlAlso, have you ever considered switching to the Firefox internet browser? Hello,

I've browsed the forums, but haven't found the cause yet for my issue, so I'm asking for help.

Here are the basics:
Win XP Home Edition, Version 2002, SP3
Intel Pentium 4, 3.4 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM
Motorola SB5120 Cable Modem
Netgear WNR2000 Router
ZoneAlarm Firewall
AVG
Malwarebytes
Spybot S & D (no tea-timer)
CCleaner (with default settings only)

Browsers:
Mainly IE8, but I also have this issue in Google Chrome

What I've tried:

Unplugging modem & router for a minute, plugging the modem back in, waiting until all the lights are solid, then plugging the router back in, waiting until all the lights are solid, then opening my internet browser. Note: I've tried this with the computer both on and off.
Bypassing my router and plugging my ethernet directly into my cable modem.
Resetting my IE8 settings to default.
Disabling my firewall (ZoneAlarm).
Scanning with AVG (full system scan).
Scanning with Malwarebytes (full system scan).
Scanning with Spybot.
Running CCleaner.
Verified with devmgmt.msc that all my computer's hardware is functioning properly.
Verified with my ISP that I am not losing any packets and that my cable modem is functioning correctly.
Verified in Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties that "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are checked.
Run ipconfig /renew with no issue.
Run ping of IP address and Default Gateway with no loss.

Answer:Win XP load web page more slowly than Win2000

Probably because Firefox must lookup the site each time or something like that this is the problem with Ubuntu+Firefox and my computer I'm not sure why but it says that its looking up the site each time. You could see if all of your drivers are installed properly. and get an addon called fasterfox.

Some websites, for example:
http://www.colonialfirstate.com.au/ and
http://postbillpay.com.au

do not load in my newly installed IE7.

The error message says:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
More information

But the same websites load OK in Firefox.

I have fiddled around with the security settings etc., but still no joy.

I did not have such a problem with IE6.

I also use Maxthon Browser from time to time. But since that is based on IE engine, even that will not show some websites.

Can somebody suggest a solution?

The only Firewall that I use is WinPatrol. I clean up Malware once in a while with AdAware SE.

Answer:Websites Will Not Load in IE, But Will Load in Firefox

Hello, This is not an answer to your question, I just wanted to say that 'WinPatrol' is not a firewall.

Videos loading slowly sometimes stops to load and crash with "An error occurred" massage.
I did not have this problem before but after I reinstalled windows this started to happen immediately.I noticed this on youtube but after trying other sites same problem starts to happen.I also tried different browser and different networks. Also tried to connect with lan and wireless.
I again reinstalled windows 2 times after but problem is still there.

Answer:Videos loading slowly sometimes stops to load

Is your browser up to date?
Have you tried clearing cookies and cache?
Do you have the latest Flash Player installed? Youtube is using HTML5 instead of Flash and some browsers are having problems. This can be disabled in most browsers to force videos to be played with Flash. You will need to research how to do it for your browser.

When I log into my work's website, I can log in on the main page and navigate it fine. However, there are several pages within my company website that load extremely slowly. I mean, they take over 10 minutes to load. The pages are my company mail inbox, my schedule, and the page where I bid for my schedule. Maybe some other pages. It's always these pages, and they are always slow. All other web pages load fine. My internet speeds run fine on test and in game. Uploads and downloads work fine.

This problem exists on Firefox, IE, and Opera. If I reboot my machine into linux and access the pages in Firefox there, they load fine. On Windows 7 though, they don't.

I've done the usual suspects such as clearing all history, cache, cookies, etc. I've deleted the cookie and cache files. I've uninstalled Firefox and started with a fresh install. I've also deleted all security certificates in Firefox.

My hosts file contains only the following:

Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost
I've disabled my antivirus (NOD32 Anti-virus) and shut down my firewall (Comodo Firewall). I do not have Windows Firewall running.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can fix this problem, or at least troubleshoot it further?

Answer:Specific web pages only load slowly on all browsers

Welcome
If the problem exists only on some browers you may want to reset one that does not work.
Please note that you will lose all of your personal settings and add ons. I have given directions for IE9, others will be similar. Good luck.
Reset Internet Explorer settings in Internet Explorer 9
Before doing anything be sure to have the most up to date version of IE.

Help! I've had this computer for about two years and experienced no problems. Several weeks ago, files and applications started opening very slowly: after clicking on a file name, it takes 30 seconds or so to open the file. Once it's open, everything works fine. Same thing with opening JPG or AVI files. Even right-clicking takes that long to open the window to view properties. No problems with Internet--everything loads smoothly. I run AVG antivirus and Spy Sweeper, and no problems reported. Opening files on a networked computer through My Network Places has the same results, although that computer is bug free as of now. Any ideas? Here's the HJT log:

Hey all. I just did a clean reinstall of my Win98se full edition on my Dell (specs below). I've tried all my browsers (IE6.0, Firefox 1.0.3, K-Meleon) and all crawl when loading pages. Everything else seems to be running good.
It's not spyware or a virus cuz I've ruled that out with the latest versions of Spybot and Ad-Aware and AVG.
I'm thinking it has to be some setting that I've overlooked but I can't think of what. Perhaps a driver?
Can someone offer some suggestions?
Thanks so much and may God bless,
Peter

i just formatted and when the computer finishes the ram check, HD check, the screen goes blank with a little cursor key thing blinking in the top left (black screen) for a few moments and THEN it goes to the windows home load up screen (with the green thing that moves left and right) and THEN it loads windows.

i've never had a fresh format do this before, is there something wrong with the settings, the installation or what?

Answer:why does my system load slowly, after a fresh format?

Is this on the machine in your sig?

Hello.

I recently moved to a new apartment, and had Comcast Internet set up. This was a few weeks ago.

Since day 1, I've been having troubles loading web pages. With regularity, my connection speed would seem to slow to a crawl, and pages would either load very slowly or not at all.  Most times (but now always)  No "no connection"  error will pop up on chrome, the pages just perpetually load. Then other times, things will load just time. It's about 50/50.

At first I assumed this was just horrible Comcast connection speeds, but I noticed that my phone would load things fine on WiFi alone even when my laptop was having trouble. My roommates have also had no problems on their laptops. In fact, my temporary solution to this problem has been to tether my phones WiFi connection through my laptop whenever I'm having problems, and this has worked always.

So the problem seems to be rooted to my laptop. The sporadic nature of the issues has made it tough to troubleshoot, but I've learned that when the issue appears ...

1. I cannot ping any websites
2. the issue happens across all browsers
3. The built-in windows network troubleshooter detects no issues

I am running Windows 10 on my HP Envy m6 sleekbook.

I should also note that I've recently had an issue in the dealt with in the "Am I infected, what do I do?" forum here, and in doing so ran several malware scanners/removal programs all which came bac... Read more

I've checked the browser settings, and iGoogle is set as the page on startup, and I've removed AVG from my search engines. However, I'm still being redirected to AVG. Webpages are also taking longer to load (may take up to a few minutes) and sometimes may not load at all.

Problem: Programs are loading slowly and running slowly. Again this is all tasks I ask the computer to perform including system checks, and even just typing. When trying to open task manager it does not respond.

Steps taken: Defrag, disk check, cleared temp internet file, deleted cache, and cleared history.

System specs: Gateway gt5670, Vista home premium sp2, amd phenom 8400 triple-core processor 2.10 ghz, ram 3.0 gb.

It will not let me complete a refresh of the sub score and base score for the performance.

Even though it is not just web surfing being slow, for your information, all other devices in my home do connect to the internet fine and my upload/download is 718/1321. Single test.

This PC has been upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and now Desktop icons load slowly at start-up. It will only load desktop icons properly once when it first makes a new set of iconcache.db files.
This was at the first time on Win10 and now after the icon cache rebuilder from this website has been used.
The rebuilder works properly every time and makes the desktop load quickly at the next boot - once - but on all the following boots the PC returns to the slow one-by-one find the icon process (which also happened on Win7).
I think I have made sure that all iconcache*.* files are deleted from users/tony/appdata/local/iconcache.db and users/tony/appdata/local/microsoft/windows/explorer/iconcache_nnn.db where nnn is different for several files.
I have also removed the thumbnail caches.
Instinct suggests that not everything is being deleted and there is something left over from Win7.
I want to avoid a doing a reformat and a clean Win10 install if I can.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Desktop icons load slowly at start-up in Windows 10

The causes could be many.
Maybe your User profile has been corrupted. Log in as some other user and see.
Icon Cache file may be corrupted. You have already run our Thumbnail & icon cache rebuilder for Windows 10. It works the first time and then on subsequent restarts, your problem re-appears. Try to Rebuild Icon Cache, Clear Thumbnail cache manually and see if that helps.
If these Hidden files exists, delete them too:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\IconCache.db
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\IconCache.db
Check your Startup programs. See if disabling them helps. Best to boot in clean boot state and see if problem continues. If it disappears, try to identify the offending 3rd-party startup.
You need to identify what could be causing this. Clean Boot State is the best way to go.
Create a system restore point first, before doing anything.
Hope something helps.

Dear helpers,

Recently, I've noticed that firefox loads certain pages slower. When this 1st happened, I tried explorer, but it also load slowly. Chrome sometimes loads these pages fast, but other times hang. When firefox hang for a certain page it simply says "waiting for pagename.com". I'm quite sure the problem is in my computer and more specifically with browsers, since I can get good speeds and download files fast (using bittorent and such). also, I tried to connect the computer to a different network, and got the same behavior with my computer, whereas an other computer on that network loaded the same pages I tried very fast (at the same time I tried).
When I work in safe mode with networking the "problematic" pages load at lightening speeds!
I tried to run combofix and it helped, but after a few days the problem returned, and now combofix won't help anymore...
I hope that makes any sense to you, and that you guys at the forum would have some ideas.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there! Am I the only one experiencing this Problem using Windows 8 and the X230?When I try to open the "Devices and Printers" page from the Settings it loads for a while (green bar is loading up), with up to 1 minute of waiting, while the CPU is getting super busy (100 % load). That is really annoying when you want to check your printers from time to time.I think that I also found where the problem comes from: the Realtek audio driver / the dolby enhanced driver, because when I uninstall both of them, "Devices and Printers" is opening instantly, always! I am using the newest driver, but the problem is still there (also with older drivers). Even with the original drivers without dolby from realtek, the problem ist still there. So uninstalling fixed the problem for me, but now the sound volume/performance of my X230 is really low. I'm hoping for a fix, but if it is only me, perhaps my hardware is the real problem. Well, thanks for reading and please report if you have the same/similar problem!

I'm running a reasonably potent system with Win7 x64, and it seems kind of sluggish at loading & handling icons. For example, after a fresh reboot, if I open the Start menu (or whatever it's called in 7) and click on All Programs, I can hear the hard drive being accessed and the icons sort of fill in down the list of programs. Same thing when I navigate folders, often I can see the icons sequentially being loaded as the page is displayed. I don't remember this much delay in icons being loaded and drawn as I navigated XP.

It seems to me that with 4 gigs of ram, that ought to be more than enough for most icons (at least the common ones that are part of Win7) should be loaded into RAM at bootup, so that all icons would be displayed instantly when you open a page or folder. It really looks kind of primitive to see the icons populate.

I've already tried increasing the Icon Cache Size/Max Cached icons via the registry, but I can't really tell a difference.

Does anyone else see this pokey icon drawing behavior in Win7 or am I crazy?

Answer:Icons in menus and folders load/display slowly

What all do you have loading at startup?
Check msconfig and see what's going on under startup. IMO

Hey all,

I found this forum doing a Google search for some computer help - I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas regarding a problem I've encountered.

Over the last couple of days, I've noticed that certain web pages are loading very slowly on my desktop, or not at all. Some pages work great, while others won't even show up at all until I refresh them several times. I've tried to notice a pattern, and it's possible that secure page (https) and/or pages with forms are giving my computer the most trouble, but I can't be positive. Some more details:

This phenomenon is occurring in both Firefox 3.0.10 and IE 7.

My computer is running XP and I connect through a wireless router. I use McAfee SecurityCenter.

I have made two changes to my home setup recently...

1. I moved my router from the floor to the top of a bookshelf, which has greatly increased my supposed connection speed to about 50Mbps.

2. I set up a wireless printer on my network.

That's really all I can think of to say about the issue at the moment. Do these clues help illuminate what might be going on?

Thanks so much for any help!

Ben

After refreshing or reloading the slow page several times, it loads properly but still slow.

I did some reading here beforehand, and i ran CCleaner and cleaned the cache and all, but nothing worked. I thought it was my Avast! but when i turned it off it doesn't have any effects at all. I know this is not my connection's fault because when i try loading some pages in another devices like my tablet or phone with my wi-fi it worked just fine. Been like this for like a month or so.
Any thoughts?
Any response is appreciated.

Answer:Google Chrome & other Browsers won't load properly/slowly

Hello and welcome Timot I cannot find the support page for that machine you have listed - not being funny but that is the correct model??
To me it sounds like either a driver or system error. I have these from time to time and have used fixes like rebooting the modem checking the network drver Ethernet or wifi but the first oen I go for is this and it is so simple and sually works

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html < do first but the next one chkdsk is the usual fixer for me

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < use the /f and /r options in Option2 if necessary

I shall be interested in what you find as I am about to get the G750JM ROG

I have Vista Home Premium (with all critical and recommended updates) on an HP Pavilion dv6500 laptop. First 3+ months I had it everything worked fine. For about the last 3 weeks most web pages, including almost everytime I click on a link in one of these forums, I get to see the "busy" icon for 10-15 seconds or so.

I think it is not a networking issue per se because I'm having no trouble wired or wireless on two XP PCs, it happens wireless or ethernet on this Vista PC, and even when it happens a Speedtest will show 7.5Mbps or better.

Things I have tried, with no change, include stopping the Sidebar, stopping Windows Defender and uninstalling Grisoft's Anti-Virus (I've reinstalled it).

I use Firefox 2.0.0.12, but using IE gives the same result.

In Safe mode with Networking the problem does NOT occur.

Thus, I'm thinking some software incompatibility with an outside chance of malware.

Any advice or suggestions?

Hello everyone,

I have a laptop (Dell E7440 -i5 4300U with onboard graphics, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD) with fully updated Windows 10 Pro x64 installed.

After upgrading (through Windows Update) to 1607, I noticed that almost every time I open the start menu, the folder icons will load after a couple of seconds. Every other app/program icon, will load immediately.
This was very displeasing to the eye, so I decided to make a clean install of the latest Windows 10, by downloading them through Microsoft official tool. To my surprise, I face the same problem when I open the start menu.

On my Windows 10 desktop, every icon loads instantly, as it should...

Anyone noticed something similar? Is there any possible solution for this?
It's my first post here, so sorry in advance for any inconvenience!

This is very weird, I have absolutely no idea what to do. Any ideas are very welcome.

When the computer is connected to the office network, many applications load very slowly. It takes 30-60 seconds for the applications to become visible or responsive. When I unplug the network cable, the same applications load normally (<5 seconds). Some of these applications do not even connect to the internet!

What's more, it seems that only applications that use OpenGL behave this way. I came to this conclusion when I noticed that Mathcad works perfectly if you don't use 3D plots; when you insert a 3D plot, the entire application hangs for 30 seconds or so. This made me go check all installed programs, and it seems that only the ones which use OpenGL experience this strange behavior.

I have updated the graphic card and monitor drivers, installed all Windows updates, I even tried some OpenGL diagnostic tools, nothing fixed this, not even detected a problem.

Specs. Hardware: Dell Precision 650 (2 Intel Xeon 2.8 processors, 4 (3.37) GB of RAM, NVIDIA Quadro4 900 XGL). OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

Windows 7 ultimate.
Intel i7 PC.

Suddenly after startup folders load very slowly (or not, blank) green progress bar loads.
Simultaneously the (template) thumbnails in the aero theme selection window goes blank too (they do work just after login).
I have noticed that when I wanted to change the theme, thinking that, that would be the issue.
Even changing it to the classical theme makes no difference.

- The problem starts after a few seconds after logging in.
- The Music and library folders open fine.
- I have set the folder properties to 'general' but that did not help.
- Folder 'Computer' and 'Control Panel' has the same problem .
- Some thumbnails do not work in folders they do on the desktop.

- When I log off or restart then everything works for some seconds.
- I can browse all folders, but soon after the prbolem occurs.
- And sometimes when I wait a while I can access the folder's then the problem starts again.
- In safe mode there is no problem.
- Sometimes when I type a path in the music folder then I can get to the other folders.

- Indexing is disabled on both HD.
- I've done system restore but no effect .
- Disabled services in msconfig in and also set to diagnostic setting and booted, but same result.
- Hardisc checked for errors, also there is enough free space.
- My Pc is quite new, this happened all of a sudden.

An update windows did recently was the .Net framework updates.

Will it have anything to do with that?

I hope you can help me.

Answer:Suddenly folders load very slowly (blank) green progress bar loads.

Because it does not happen in safe mode it seems something is not right. Try enabling indexing, and if the problem remains, do this. Click the Windows Start button and type “index” in the Search box. Indexing Options should appear under programs. Click Indexing Options to bring up the Indexing Options screen. Click the Advanced button on the Indexing Option screen. Click the Rebuild button. Your current Search Indexes will be deleted and rebuilt.

Hello, My Thinkpad T520, Windows 7 Pro takes over a minute to load any webpage  after waking from sleep. The wifi icon shows that the network has connected to the internet after about 10 seconds from wake up. But if I attempt to use a browser to load any webpage, I must wait nearly a minute before the page will load. After that, pages load quickly. This problem occurs in multiple browsers (FF, IE, Chrome). I am using Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 wireless adapter. I've updated the wireless driver and BIOS. I've cleaned out my registry using CCleaner, and I've defragmented. One bit of advice I've read that I've tried from these forums does NOT work: Uncheck from Device Manager under the Power Management tab for my wireless adapater the option to Allow the Computer to Turn Off This Device to Save Power. Unchecking that option (which would seem to keep the driver on) makes the problem worse because the wifi will not reconnect at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad reconnects wifi to internet after wake up from sleep, but web pages load very slowly

Hi, welcome to the forum!

It seems like a problem between your Access Point and your wifi card rather than just a problem with the card.
Are there other wireless clients associated with the access point? Do you know if there is a "sleep mode" activated for that device? Please give more details about your wifi network setup and the way it connects to the internet..

For about 2 months now, my computer will enter a phase where sometimes it will work and sometimes it refuses to load any website, will then work properly, and will then refuse to load websites again. The problem persists for several days, sometimes beyond a week, then disappears for a while before coming back

I've tried using different browsers, updating my browsers, fixing the browser settings as each one suggests, updating Windows, and restarting the computer. The last time this happened, updating Windows fixed it. Now it's returned.

This is the error message I get when it refuses to load a site on Google Chrome:

This webpage is not available

The connection to ***whatever website URL I'm on*** was interrupted.

Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the wrench menu > Options > Under the Hood > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN"... Hi everyone,

I've the issue stated in the title. Some websites load and others time out. I've been googling for two days trying all sorts of solutions but none of it helped. Before I just wipe and reinstall Windows I want to try this as a last resort, partly because I'm not even convinced it's actually in the computer itself. Here's what I know so far:

- The problem started at an indefinate time: it's the computer of my parents and they can't tell me more than "it suddenly stopped!"
- The pages that aren't loading don't share any commons grounds: they're news pages, forums, secured websites, a bit of everything.
- Some pages load slowly instead of not at all.
- The computer runs on Windows 7 Home edition and is up to date.
- The computer is wired to a switch which leads into a router, which connects to the modem.
- The problem occurs with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox.
- The problem is not affecting any other computers on the same network.
- I can ping some of the "unreachable" websites just fine. Typing in their IP address does not load the page.

I've tried the following things that didn't work:

- Deleting temporary internet files and resetting safety settings to normal.
- Disabling the firewall
- Clearing the DNS cache
- Giving the computer a static IP address
- Changing the DNS server manually (to that of google: 8.8.8.8)
- Uninstalling and reinstalling browsers and related applications like Flash and Java.
- Disabling all startup... Read more

Answer:Some websites don't load

Do the pages that dont load on that computer, load on other devices?  It could be server error, or it could be your ISP, somehow throttling your connection to certain sites.  You have quite the comprehensive list of things you have already tried.
Im not exactly sure what to suggest for you to do.  Good luck.

I am using Windows 8 64-bit and I am having an issue loading certain websites. Twitter and Facebook are the main two. I have tried Chrome, Firefox, IE, Chrome portable, Firefox portable and qupzilla portable. I tried using https as well. http://en-gb.facebook.com loads but once I enter my login details it just comes up with "problem loading page" again. I have run Malwarebytes and SUPERantispyware I have cleared cache's etc and nothing seems to be helping. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm almost at my wits end with it.
I should add I've reset my router, restored factory settings but they seem to work on other devices (android phone, old laptop etc).

Answer:Can't get some websites to load

Check and make sure that time/date settings were accurate in your computer. If the problem still persists, try uninstalling Firefox/Chrome and install it back again.

I've just got the internet and find that both internet explorer and firefox don't show some sites (eg won't show microsoft, some anti-virus software companies etc) yet it shows most others I go to, even obsure ones. I've tried disabling both the windows and the router firewall. I've dropped all the security levels in the Privacy and Security tabs of the Internet Options. I have SSL3 and TLS enabled. I've allowed ActiveXs to run (with prompt). I've checked C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and find the only line is: 127.0.0.1 localhostI've tried all the above simultansously but the microsoft website will not load. I can't believe it and many others have been offline for many days now. Very little software has been loaded on this laptop and it has no history of surfing and this problem I noticed almost immediately after connecting up to my router for the first time. I downloaded version 8 of IE from microsft (from a different computer a week earlier). I then downloaded the most recent firefox from here upon my struggles with IE. I'm running Windows XP Professional service pack 2. please plase helpregardspaul

This has been happening recently... most of the websites I try to go to won't load at all, or simply state at the bottom of Firefox that it's transferring data or whatever.

Some of the websites that will never load are... yahoo answers, last.fm, facebook... Others will give me a 404 error message until I refresh the internet page a dozen times.

It definitely is not a problem with my ISP.. ever since I've bought my Toshiba (with Windows Vista Home Basic, eek), I've been having problems.

I don't know what to do. suggestions? :B

I do not know this product, but if they just included a firewall and did not disable the windows firewall, there may be a conflict. After that, go to their website since this is directly related to their product. They probably have a support site with FAQ's, common fixes, an email or chat tech, and possibly a forum dedicated to their product. They know their product best and others likely will have the same problem. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hello, I seem to be having problems with either my internet connection or software on my computer, hopefully someone out there can help me figure out what the problem is.

I recently just purchased a sager notebook, and by recent I mean I just got this sucker 3 days ago. Since then, I have been unable to access a handful of websites unless I use a proxy to tunnel them. Even then I am unable to download several files from said sites because they simply will not load.

I first noticed this when I tried to access Firefox.com. Having used Mozilla on my previous computer, I decided to switch over to it again on my new one. At least I thought I was going to. The website simply will not load, and continuously times out. When I attempt to diagnose the problem, I receive a message stating "Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource is not responding."

I immediately assumed it was Internet Explorer, my current browser at the time, was restricting me from accessing the site. I disabled my firewall and played around with my privacy settings, but to no avail it remained unreachable. So, I searched and searched and found a Developer Preview version of Mozilla, and downloaded it hoping the problem would not persist. To my surprise, I was still unable to access the website even with a seperate browser.

So I unistalled the Mozilla crap and returned to using Internet Explorer, albeit begrudgingly, until I could fix the problem.

It wasn't long ... Read more

Hi,

I bought a Sony Vaio netbook in November 2010 and to start with it allowed me access to hotmail, my work email, and university email accounts. Now however, none of these websites will load for me to access any of my emails. The internet progress bar says 'done' but the pages always remain blank.

I can't load any videos on youtube either.

I've had a look around up here and can't really find anything useful.

Please help as I'm at a loss as to what to do. I'm not that much of an advanced user. I'm really just an average computer user.

I'd be grateful for any advice you can give me.

Just earlier today, for some reason, I am unable to get onto some sites because they just won't load at all, the main ones being Wikipedia, other wiki and wikia based sites and just some random sites when searching for stuff on google. They take forever to load and then come up with the message 'oops! Google chrome could not open the site'. Other than that, most sites are working perfectly fine and are running at a normal speed, but some are a bit slow with loading, like IGN, Gamespot and the American site for yahoo answers.

I've tried two different internet browsers (google chrome and internet explorer), but that doesn't work. It DEFINITELY has nothing to do with my computer because I've tried both my computers and they both have the same issue (even my PS3 couldn't load wikipedia). I tried connecting my DS to my internet earlier as well and couldn't connect (kept getting the 62010 error code) the first two times (never happened before).

So I think it must be something to do with my internet connection. I've checked my internet speed and that hasn't changed, it's just some sites refuse to load or take forever to load, very annoying. And I tried loading wikipedia and other sites that wouldn't load on my computer(s) on my phone and they all loaded fine, and since my phone is using the mobile internet, there must be something wrong with my router/internet connection.

The only thing I can think of is that my br... Read more

Yesterday I ran a virus scan and deleted several viruses. After I did that, i noticed that my internet was running slower than normal. I figured i would wait until today to see if it would work better...it didn't. In fact, it got worse. Now websites like facebook and ebay take forever to load, and when they finally load, they load incorrectly. Today I ran more virus scans but they found nothing. I tried a system restore but that didn't work either. I also tried other browsers, but they all had the same problem.

I also tried booting up in safe mode and everything worked when i did that. I've seen other people with this same problem but all of the solutions that they were given didn't work.

I have not been able to open many forums and websites that have .php at the end of the link/address.  I tried both FireFox and IE on Vista Home x64.  I don't think it is an issue with the sites I'm visiting because it is happening to many sites I've tried to load.  The weird thing is that sometimes the pages will not load, and the next day it will, then i won't again.  I have done several virus and spyware scans and came up with no threats.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Have you tried with the 32 bit IE, the 64 bit IE does have problems with some sites as it is more geared towards security.

So I have a bit of a hobby I guess you could call it. I do little graphics for people online for roleplaying style sites (no nothing adult lol). But the graphics I make do require me to venture out to find websites with a large collection of photos of the person or people the requester is using for their character. Normally this just results in me finding and using fan sites.

Where the problem is happening is that certain sites just won't load (even though they once did months ago). At first I thought it was just my old and dying computer that was like four years old. But I'm now using a brand new custom built (and expensive) system but the problem still remains. I have done a few tests, even grabbed some suggestions from this site in fact. But nothing seems to be working. When I did a troubleshoot on my connection and then insert the sites I was trying to access it came back saying my network was fine but the site was not responding. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Also, friends of mine have been able to load these sites just fine and just like I stated back a few months ago I too could access them.

Answer:Certain Websites Won't Load

Welcome to Seven Forums KamiCDN. Can you share some sites you are having problems with? What browser are you using, and do you have more than one browser that exhibits this problem? Try accessing one of the sites through a web based proxy, and see if it displays normally that way.

I started having a problem yesterday on all of my computers (desktop and two laptops). Some websites, such as Google, Yahoo, and Facebook, will load but almost everything else will not load. I'll get the "Problem loading page" message in any browser (Firefox, IE, Chrome). Luckily, I am able to access a few computer help forums like this one and found people with similar problems. As had been recommended in those threads I tried downloading various programs for removing adware/spyware/viruses and cleaning the registry. I tried Adwcleaner, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and my AVG antivirus. A few threats showed up on each, but none of them appeared to be serious threats, and removing them did nothing to solve the problem. If this is relevant, all of my computers run some form of windows (Vista, 7, and 8). I just had my modem replaced a few months ago, and I don't know how that would stop only certain websites from functioning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This would confirm that it's with your ISP server connections problems on sites being block or loaded. Have you called them on the issue? See also the link below on how to ping websites not loading.

For a long time I've tolerated this problem. Basically, an assortment of websites have trouble loading. Some times they will take a couple refreshes to load, sometimes they will load in HTML after a long time, and some don't load at all. Sometimes a website will work fine, but then not load the next day. It's starting to really piss me off, especially since it affects such websites as:
- SoundCloud
- Twitch.tv
- Justin.tv
- The Escapist
- Facebook (occasionally)
- Many more!
As far as I can tell, this all started a few months ago. My internet spontaneously stopped working. I called my ISP (TelstraClear NZ), and the operator did some troubleshooting. Eventually the problem just seemed to fix itself after I unplugged and replugged my modem; I guess it reset my connection. But ever since then, I've had this problem.
I have a SURFBoard modem and a Netgear wireless router.
The things I've done to try fix are:
- Changing my DNS servers - many times
- Using a different OS/computer
- Using a different browser
- Pinging the servers of stuck websites. Often I can't reach them with a ping
- Turning off/unplugging my modem and router
- Plugging my modem directly into the computer
I'm at my wit's end as to what the problem is. Everything i can see suggests that this is a DNS problem - the seemingly arbitrary times websites won't work, my inability to ping them, the random assortment of affected websites. The only other thing that would make sense ... Read more

Answer:Certain websites don't load

Diagnose the problem with the ISP modem only being used. It might be a hardware or connection problem from your provider. Try ipconfig/flushdns on command prompt.

Answer:Re: Can't load certain websites

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using... Read more
