Awola Virus :( .... May also be messing with my open-source internet browsers

Question: Awola Virus :( .... May also be messing with my open-source internet browsers

I'm not exactly sure at what time it happened or what I was doing, but the "Awola Anti-spyware 6.0" program is installed on my computer and won't uninstall. A pop-up box is constantly at the bottom right-hand corner of the taskbar saying Your computer is infected! , recomending that I use the tool to prevent data loss.

Also - on another note - I'm unable to use any open-source internet browers (ie. Firefox, Opera, Bonjour...). When I attempt to use Firefox (for example) I'm given the message "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com." It won't open any site. I'm given a similar message when I try to any other browser other than IE. The browser suggests that if my computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, to make sure make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. I don't think this is the problem - but I really can't be sure. I never did anything to change these settings - nor would I know where to go to do such a thing. I'm not sure if these two things are related as the internet problem happened a good 2 months after the Awola problem started.

I really appreciate any help. From viewing other members' responses, your help seems very effective.

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Awola Virus :( .... May also be messing with my open-source internet browsers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Awola Virus :( .... May also be messing with my open-source internet browsers

One more thing I forgot to mention! --- On step 4 of what to do before posting a log - Updating the Operating System - I was unable to update Is there anything I can to do fix this?

Thanks so much!

And it worked fine for a month or so, and then Chrome, my usual browser, stopped letting me reblog things on tumblr, and half the page would just be coding instead of the usual style of posts (Wasn't a problem with tumblr itself, as it worked fine on my netbook). Chrome keeps on downloading random files, anything from .html, to .dat files. The sites it downloads them on is inconsistent (one day it'll download a file from a webpage, the next day it won't).
When I download .exe files with Chrome, sometimes the installer will work, sometimes it won't (Windows cannot open the .sfx file, or something similar). The publisher, though I downloaded it from the official website, comes up as unknown, instead of the company name.
Downloaded Opera - worked fine for a day or so, and then started experiencing similar problems. Same thing with Firefox.

I'm sorry if there's a totally obvious answer to how to fix this, I am totally illiterate when it comes to computers:/

Answer:Internet browsers messing up

Try clearing all your cookies and web-history to see if that helps. Also see if there is any extension running on your browsers that may be causing the problem.

I think i have a virus that is limiting my internet connectivity. it started out in mozilla as "proxy refused to connect", so someone helped me fix that, now it is saying "connection interrupted" and "connection has been reset". i can see it connecting to the site but its not letting me go all the way. The thing is, i am in safe mode because i have another virus thats telling me i need to register windows and that it has been activated by another user when i start normally, so i have no choice but to run in safe mode. Also, when i try to turn my phishing filter on, it is grey and wont let me turn it on. i have downloaded some antivirus softare like avira and avast but it wont let me download the files because it says im behind a firewall or something. so spyware terminator is my primary antivirus, but it wont connect to get the updates so it is a couple of months out of date. So i need some serious help.

About a week ago, I somehow got a strain of the Vundo Virus. Don't exactly know how it happened but I know that my AV at the time (Trend Micro Anti-Virus 2007) didn't catch it. Now, once I got this thing (and a couple other problems as you'll see) my computer has been doing really screwy things. Most of it has to do with the internet. I browse through Firefox. Now, when I browse, my computer will lose it's wireless connection, randomly connect to another wireless point without me prompting it or giving it permission, won't connect to webpages unless I refresh x amount of times, throttle my bandwidth beyond belief, screw up my forwarded ports, etc. And it's completely random. Certain times of the day it will do this and other times it will be semi-ok. That's the major problem. The other problem is the general slowing down of my computer (OS is Windows XP with SP2).

On to the Vundo itself. I'm guessing this is a new or nastier strain because I tried google'ing Trojan.Vundo.DYA and nothing came up. I haven't even seen the DYA variant or maybe I just don't know because I'm not the most computer savvy. In any case, that's not the only virus on my computer right now. I've got 5 and this is one of them. I contracted another one with I tried downloading ComboFix.

Now, what I've done to try and remedy it.

-Ran HJT for a report but I can't read it.
-Ran ComboFix which turned out to give me another virus
-Ran FxVMonde with no results
-Ran SDfix with no results

Why would you use either of these products when there are many proven alternatives .........   How long have you been using them ........The latest version of Clamwin Free Antivirus is 0.88.2.3Please note that ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner. You need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware. Why ClamWin Free Antivirus is not recognised by Windows Security Centre?     ClamWin Free Antivirus does not scan files automatically (that is when you access or open a file), you need to scan a suspicious file manually before opening it. Hence ClamWin does not offer fully automatic virus protection and does not integrate with Windows XP SP2 Security Centre. This will change once the on-access scanning component is released and ClamWin team is working on it.Please note that if you use MS Outlook email client (not MS Outlook Express) then all emails are scanned automatically when you open them.Reading comments from users indicate that it works , but just how well doesnt seem to be documented ....nor have I seen any comparisons to some of the more established AV scanners .   If you have that info , please post it as it may be useful.dl65

Why Virus Writers are Turning to Open Source

It?s nice to see people going open source in an effort to make their programs and products easier to work with. Wait, these guys are virus authors? This sucks.

"The advantages are that you have more people involved in developing it, so someone who is into cryptography could add a cryptographic plug-in or somebody who does video streaming could add remote streaming of the desktop," West said.

Hello, The DDS and other file only scanned one computer user, but I have four users, so not sure if it detected the virus or not because I'm unsure which computer user has the virus. I think it's coming from a deleted user.

AVG keeps detecting a few IRP Hook viruses, but every time I delete them, my computer won't let me log on until I do a restore which puts them right back on.

I also had an adult viruses pop up that falsely claimed I had been viewing child porn and said I was reported to my hosting provider and the police. I saw this is a popular virus, but it went away after I deleted the computer user, but I think it's still there lurking.

I wasn't too concerned, but now I'm thinking I'm dealing with a serious problem, because

1. AT&T tells me a virus is messing with my internet connect... and

2. Many of my shared hosting websites were hacked (some websites do not even have content or links to them because I never used them, so the hacker must have found and gained access through my computer info.)

3. I noticed that my screen resolution changes during the time I cannot get on the internet.

In desperate need of help and I appreciate you all!

I just reformated my hard drive. I updated windows 7, then downloaded MS Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, FF, Spywareblaster, and while downloading peerblock things started to go weird. I got a popup to install realplayer, which I hadn't downloaded and a weird toolbar appeared on my browsers - mixidj - that I saw no where in my downloads, no checks for any toolbars, etc. I'm very careful when downloading things to read everything and uncheck things that are checked automatically that I don't want (which is almost always everything - I don't even want desktop icons).

Now windows is very slow to respond. My browsers are acting weird and not responding well. this ugly malware toolbar is taking up space I don't want taken up on my browser, and don't want this malware.

MS Security Essentials keeps popping up warnings and I've quarantined two things:

I downloaded peerblock from CNET - is that no longer a safe place to download from?

Hi Guys
can anybody recommend me a best open source anti spam/virus software/gateway? I have used untangle and it really didnt suit me what I was looking for and I am currently using mailcleaner the open source one and its really not working because its really slow on delivering mail or it blocks yahoo, hotmail, gmail and there forum is really slow and it takes forever to get any help to fix there issues on it.

As for my mail server I am using iredmail/postfix with ubuntu 10.04.3 Lts.

This setup is for my own WISP (wireless internet service provider)

Answer:Best open source anti spam/virus software/gateway out there?

Well, naturally "Best" will be different for many people...it depends what your specific needs are.

Untangle really is one of the more full featured ones out there...considering the free "Lite" version.

Astaro is very good.

Endian is also good. I have those listed in my *nix router distro stickied thread.

What did Untangle fail to do for you?

To save time, I'm just going to copy and paste in portions of a couple e-mails I wrote to a few friends about this lately, so a couple parts will repeat, but extra detail is also present. I just want feedback about it

E-mail #1:
The first idea on the list is what I would call a Black Internet (and when I say black, I'm talking Black Market...I know that's a terrible title, but it's not as bad as it sounds). The infrastructure of it would consist of nothing but already existent wireless internet hardware that people already own or could buy dirt cheap. Lots of people have wireless internet adapters and networking cards. All they need now is a piece of software to enable auto-configuring, Ad-Hoc, Wireless-Mesh-Topology network; a freelance, public controlled Intranet (that's INTRAnet, or, a very huge Local Area Network). Such a software already exists that enables such networking, and it's called Wipeer, and it runs on Windows only. The developers are considering going open source (and they should do it now before their idea is copied and someone develops an alternative faster than they can upgrade their own and have a Linux version available).

All communication from peer to peer on such a network is encrypted with high end encryption. So that, if you are conducting data transfers to others in the wireless mesh that you wish to be kept private from end to end, it can be done very easily and safely. Data Encryption is something of a blessing, thes... Read more

Recently a person at my company decided to fix a "virus" themselves. Now they are unable to open any browser. This includes Firefox/ie/Chrome. When I say they don't open this means that it doesn't go into the task manager or anything. You get the loading hourglass for a half second and then it closes. Everything else seems to run normally but no browsers will run. I have double checked all dns/ip settings and proxy settings. Malwarebytes comes back empty and hijack this has been cleaned. any suggestions?

hello - exasperated newbie here. This is a problem where my computer was fine yesterday but today won't work.

I cannot open internet browsers. If I click on the icon for Firefox or IE nothing happens. I have an internet connection, my internet options says I am connected to the internet and gives me an option to browse. Clicking the option brings the same results - nothing happens. Not even a window opens that tells me I have no connection. Nada.

By way of troubleshooting I uninstalled BitDefender - I've been running it for a couple of weeks and have had nothing but problems with it - so I figured this might be a cause. It didn't fix the problem, but as a feature of the uninstallation process it opened a window for a website (!) survey asking why I am unhappy with the product. Eureka I am on the web! I can surf and my connection is fine. (It opend in IE even though Firefox is my default). But the same problem persists - I cannot connect to the internet by clicking on an icon.

Googling the problem has brought up tons of connection issues but nothing that seems related to actually having a connection and just not being able to get to it.

Like stated earlier, everything worked fine yesterday. Please help if you can! Thanks!

When i try to open a second ie window, the one I had already opened and mimimised, opens up again. This means I cannot have two ie open together, I did a system restore and it is working OK at the moment, but this is the second time in about three weeks ths has happened. Why is this happeing and is there something else I should do to fix the problem, rather that system restore? Thanks

Answer:Cannot open two internet browsers

Try tools/Options/Advanced, untick `Reuse windows for opening shortcuts`. I am assuming you mean IE6, with ie7 tabbed browsing means you don't really need two instances of the program open.

I've recently done maintenance to my computer i.e. registry cleaning, disk defragmenting, virus scans, changing which programs start on my computer, file cleaning, and I've now come across an issue in whenever I try opening chrome or firefox a get an error message saying "This program has stopped responding and needs to close" which is then followed by an error reporting message. Then whenever I try opening Internet Explorer it processes and then does nothing, even though there is an ieexplorer process in task manager yet it only takes up 7,000kb. I've done everything i could think of to solve the problem, reinstated the registry backups to before this occurred, changed start up programs to what I had, restored my computer several times to previous dates to before this occured, reinstalled Google Chrome, and scanned using Microsoft Sec Essentials and Malwarebytes (which returned nothing). The only thing that does work is booting into safe mode w/ networking. Hopefully someone can shed some light on the problem as it's very frsustrating to me, any help would be appreciated. Answer:all internet browsers will not open

Hello,Try using revo uninstaller to uninstall google chrome then reinstall chrome. Unfortunantly if that doesnt work i really see no other option other than reinstall of windows xp. Revo: http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html For the record:Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor use... Read more

Hi all - am a newbie here and a non-teccie, so apologies in advance if this is posted wrongly or the solution is blindingly obvious.OK, so I've gone through all the steps in BC's "Slow Computer Checklist" - including scanning in safe mode for malware with half a dozen different programmes - but failed to spot any malware.THE PROBLEMApart from painfully slow running right from the log-on screen, along with massive memory consumption by Firefox (FF) or Internet Explorer (IE) web-browsers, the main problem is that FF has suddenly started opening up an extra window whenever it takes me to a website that I have hyperlinked in a MS Word document. The first window is the one that I need. The second window contains a message that the page could not be found while the address bar has the URL appended by this: "FirefoxHTML\shell\open\command".If i use IE as the default web browser for my hyperlinks, the problem is even worse (but no message about shell\open\command), including a Windows message that IE is being closed to prevent "data execution".THE IMPACTAs I need to access over 600 webpages every week for research purposes, this is a huge waste of both my time and my computer's memory.WHAT I'VE DONE I've tried sorting this out with the Firefox support people but without sucess - see this link: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/749218I came across this article: http://antivirus.about.com/od/windows... So, I downloaded something and got a ton of Malware and viruses. I am going through and cleaning out what I can, but I have this one problem that I'm so far, unable to solve involving my computer opening up new pages of my default browser without me being around. and when I say open, I mean that it will either open a new tab or a new window without warning. I uninstalled almost everything non-essnetial, and I went through and deleted all the files for programs that wouldn't uninstall, and I still can't figure it out.

It works on the default browser at the time. I know this because I uninstalled my Google Chrome thinking that would solve it, but then it started to do the same thing with internet explorer. Anyone have any suggestions?

I can't open any browsers or instant messaging programs, but my gmail notifier works fine in telling me when I get new emails. In addition to that, all my other programs open up fine.

I've been having trouble with my desktop suddenly disappearing as explorer.exe does not load as well, but that seems to have fixed itself.

Can anyone help?

Please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". You may have performed some of these steps already. In step #9 there are instructions for downloading HijackThis and creating a log. (This is a self-extracting version which will automatically install HJT in the proper location.)When you have done that, post your log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. Please include the top portion of the HijackThis log that lists version information. An expert will analyze your log and reply with instructions advising you what to fix. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. If this problem continues please contact Microsoft at www.microsoft.com". I try to open my network connections, and they won't open.

Is my best bet just paying for the phishing scheme and going along with awola? Will it give me back these capabilities after I have paid, so I can reformat my computer?

Please help. I am desperate.

Answer:awola virus

Oh, I am also considering buying XoftSpySE. I downloaded the program of the internet, and it did locate many corrupt files. However, I am worried if I purchase it, I will not be able to install it fully and use it as I wasnt able to install Nortan Antivirus from disk. Is this a legitimate fear, or did this program already install, and when I purchase the license key, it will simply remove the corrupt files?

I hope I explained this well. Please reply.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP.

For the last few months it has taken 15 minutes to start up, and opening an internet browser window takes more than 5 mins.
I suspect I may have a virus / trojan/ malware.

Done defragging etc to no improvement. My log is pasted below, thanks!

Hello.

I am having problems with my internet browsers, though I believe the problem may be much bigger than that seeing as how neither IE or FF will open. I click on IE and it says ''Internet Explorer has stopped working'' and when I click on FireFox it crashes and it leads me to the Modzilla Crash Reporter. I have uninstalled FF and reinstalled it several times and each attempt has failed. I even installed Google Chrome and it performed the same way. I am not tech savvy at all, so please, if possible, be as thorough as possible when explaining what I need to do. I am currently running Windows 7, 64-bit operating system.

I am having an issue that I hope someone will be able to help me resolve. At my workplace I have internet access but I am unable to open any web browser. Every other employee at my store is able to get online with no issues. We all have Windows 7. The thing that I find really odd is that I can open a browser everywhere else I go, it is only at my store that I seem to have this problem. Anyone know what it might be?

Answer:Have internet access but cannot open browsers

Does the Network icon in the system tray have a red "X" in it?
Are you trying to use Wi-Fi?
If Wi-Fi, have you selected the correct signal and were you offerred the chance to enter a name and password?

Basically whenever I try to open IE it appears in the processes tab of the task manager, but it doesn't do anything else. Whenever I try to open firefox it keeps telling me it has crashed and appears in the processes tab. It's really annoying because everything was working perfectly fine earlier today then I had a Virtumundo or something virus that I removed and ran a virus scan after that it stopped working. I'm wondering if maybe something got deleted that shouldn't have.
I googled the problem and tried a bunch of different things and nothing has helped.

I have a problem with my internet browsers. For some reason they won't let me open specific sites such as Google.com, Yahoo.com, warbears.com, world-of-dungeons.com and thepiratebay.org.When I type any of the above into the address field of IE or Firefox, they just give me the regular loading signs, and then they don't go further. They just load a blank screen for hours! I have no idea what might have caused this, I just know that it happened one day! One day I was surfing and Googling the net, and next day these sites were not working! I do know that the problem lies within my laptop, because we have two(2) computers in our house, one stationary and this laptop. The old stationary works fine, no problem with any sites, while this brand new laptop keeps pissing in my ear! Any idea how to solve this? Thanks!EDIT: Disregard that! My browsers started working again! weeee!!!

Answer:My Internet Browsers Won't Open Google!

Try the following fixes:Log on as an administrator, go Start > Run and type: "cmd". In the window that appears type: "netsh winsock reset". When the program is finished, you will receive the message: "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset." Close the command box and reboot your computer.Go Start > Run > type: "cmd" In the window that appears type: "ipconfig /flushdns". Close the command box.Go Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and and choose Properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item. Select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Reboot. Warning: Some Internet Service Providers need specific DNS settings. You need to make sure that you know if such DNS settings are required before you make this change.

Hello all,

I don't really use internet explorer ( or as my dad calls it...internet exploder ahah ) a whole lot but bugs in general just irritate me sometimes.

I have no idea when this started ( again, I don't use IE a lot ) I run a completely updated Windows 8.1 (home?) edition operating system so the browser I take it should be fully updated already. I have tried opening it directly from the local directory for it and also running as an administrator and neither would make it open.

There is no error message and there is no direct indication in the processes currently running under task manager that shows that it has booted up and is just not responding.

I thought maybe I could uninstall it but... then I look under program and features and I didn't see any relative program to uninstall for it. I remember a few years back uninstalling like version six or seven under a xp operating machine but that was ages ago.

Any type of direction here would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Answer:Internet Explorer does not open, but all other browsers do

Hello loveandpower, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If IE shows as being open from the icon on the taskbar, then double check to see if it may just be offscreen. If so, then you could just use an option in the tutorial below to get it back onscreen.
Offscreen Window - Move Back to Desktop - Windows 7 Help Forums
If IE is not actually open, then you might see if completely resetting IE may help.

Internet Explorer - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums
Hope this helps,

This morning my Toshiba running Windows 7 stopped opening any browsers or virus program. I am typing reporting this on another computer since I cannot access MajorGeeks on the Toshiba.

I tried starting in Safe mode and Safe mode with networking, but no luck.
I tried loading a virus program on a cd, but when I clicked on it, it acted just like the other programs and browsers - the hourglass for a second, then nothing.

I would appreciate your help.

Answer:Cannot open browsers or anti-virus programs

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
Rkill.exe
Rkill.com
Rkill.scr
Rkill.pif
* Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
* If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
* A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
* If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
* If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
* Do not reboot until instructed.

If you are having problems running Rkill, you can download iExplore.exe or eXplorer.exe, which are renamed copies of Rkill.com, and try them instead.

* If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and Run exeHelper from Raktor
Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to clo... Read more

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Do you use MusicMatch Jukebox?

You need to go back and follow the instructions in step 1 of the READ ME for MSconfig. You must not use MSconfig to control any startups or services. Select Normal Startup mode and remain in that state.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 12
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

Hello everyone,
For the past three days, I have had a problem with my PC.
It will show I have internet connection, however, no matter what browser I use, whether Firefox, IE or AOL, they will say no internet connection. I decided to disable my Windows Firewall, and even tho it still does it, sometimes I'm able to get online. When I cant get online, I have to reboot my PC and then I'm able to access internet and all works out but then will just freak out and not work. Now, yesterday, I also had problems with my 1394 bus IEEE driver, but was able to fix that and I'm not even sure what happened to begin with it. Today, I decided to remove AOL, I cant stand it anymore anyways. I also downloaded "Advanced system care" and did a full system scan, and it said it fixed a TON of stuff. I also did a full virus scan and also a complete boot scan, where I saw that my Java had some corrupted files and also another program, and I did a malware/spyware scan and with everything, there were no virus' and no maleware/spyware at all. Thank God! However, I still haven't been able to pinpoint why its just losing connection and I just cant seem to find any help. My drivers for my modem are up to date as well. I usually just use my Firefox and what will happen is that I'm online, and when I click a tab to open up a new window, it will just say loading...continuously and then it will say theres no internet connection. Does anyone have any ideas as to ... Read more

Hi SuesAcct -I also downloaded "Advanced system care" and did a full system scan, and it said it fixed a TON of stuff.Downloading IoBit System Care will always find TONS of problems - The program is designed to "find problems" , (even if there are not many) -Did you have any Antivirus program installed previous to this ?? If so which program was it ??You are usually better with free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php and Free SUPERAntiSpyware programs http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE for malware detection -Do you do regular maintaining like defrag , clearing temp files , etc. that will help your system -Have you got XP Service Pack 3 installed and all Microsoft updates also ??These things will help for a start - Next run Check disk program by opening Run Box and copy / paste this code in, close all programs and let it check your system -CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30The code will reboot your computer in 30 seconds after you click OK then run a full 5 stage check/repair on the disk -On average this takes 30 to 45 mins but can take longer if errors are found and fixed -Thank You -

Answer:internet working but browsers cannot open web pages

How are you sure that your connection to the router is working. Have you changed the cable just to check.
Left click on the Network connection icon in the Task Are (bottom right) then click on Open network and sharing centre.
Click on the network name and see if you are connected to the network.
Have you set a working DNS in Internet Protocol ipv4 in the Properties.
Try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as this is Googles DNS server.

First make a folder on your computer in my documents called Hijackthis and then Unzip it to that folder.
Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.

I have been using my Verizon Yahoo Browser for my internet use since my Internet Explorer browser has been giving me problems, namely it keeps freezing up after visiting anywhere between 3-5 web pages and I can't open multiple windows. It stops responding and I have to close out of it. I have scanned repeatedly for problems and haven't found any with it. I finally gave up and started using the Verizon Yahoo Browser and all was fine until yesterday. I couldn't open either internet browsers for about half a day, thought it was a problem with my internet connection, gave up and went to bed.

Today I can open both again but it takes a good couple minutes after clicking on them before they actually load. Once it loads, it runs ok although it has stopped responding a couple times and I have noticed I can not add any bookmarks in my Verizon Yahoo browser anymore. I have run numerous scans, including the Malwarebytes one, SuperAnti-Spyware, and my normal McAfee but it hasn't found anything. I did notice that about the time that this started, McAfee was trying to update itself and seemed to be frozen. I had to reboot computer. Could that have something to do with it? I'm thinking about reinstalling McAfee to see if it's doing something. Other than that, I would really appreciate any suggestions because this is getting frustrating.

Oh, and I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Answer:Internet Browsers Take Forever To Open/can't Add Bookmarks

It is possible that McAfee could be the reason why you are experiencing this issue. You could uninstall, then reinstall McAfee to see if that solves the problem. If you decide to take this approach, after uninstalling from Add Remove, use the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool before reinstalling. The tool will (supposedly) remove any traces left behind. If a reinstall doesn't solve the problem, it could be a case of McAfee just not playing nice with your system. Of course, there are other reasons why your browsers are slow to open but since you mentioned McAfee I am addressing that question.

IE7: Refuses to open directly - However, I have a proxy program (Ultrasurf, V. 9.5) that connects to a proxy server, and when I launch that, I can bring up IE. There are certain sites, though, that refuse to display, and when I try to navigate to them, every one of my IE windows will close at the same time. Example:
I went to http://www.escapistmagazine.com/ just fine, but when I tried to go to http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/music.php , it would load the background and then close all my windows.

Google Chrome: Will open about 50% of the time. Even if it is open, however, it will only display the same pages as IE will in proxy mode. If I attempt to go to an unsupported site, I get a "This page cannot be found" error inside Chrome (Example: http://www.xkcd.com/)

I know my internet is fine, because I have 2 other computers hooked up to the same network and they can both access the internet (which is actually why I have no avatar or anything - they're on my primary rig and I'm too lazy to get a flash drive to transfer them)... Read more

Upon doing some investigation and updating Spybot S&D and running it in the safe mode as well as searching files and deleting them from my program files , control panel and other locations , after re-booting , the yellow triangle continues to reappear as well as I can hear my pop-up blocker blocking tons of attempts . I need help getting rid of this cursed thing .I have included my HJT log which I just ran about 5 minutes ago .Thanks in advance for help . I look forward to hearing from anyone who can assist .

Answer:AWOLA VIRUS - HJT log file included

Hello biddle1,

Infection is showing here, so assuming you have not made too made changes since posting this log let's work from what shows here for now.
To keep them from interfering with the repairs, be sure to temporarily disable all antivirus/anti-spyware softwares while these steps are being completed. This can usually be done through right clicking the software's Taskbar icons, or accessing each software through Start - Programs.
To keep them from interfering with the repairs, be sure to temporarily disable all antivirus/anti-spyware softwares while these steps are being completed. This can usually be done through right clicking the software's Taskbar icons, or accessing each software through Start - Programs.
Download ComboFix.exe from here to your desktop

Then disconnect from net access. Once you have done that, click the downloaded ComboFix.exe file to run the repair.
When starting ComboFix will cause your computer's internal speakers to produce two beeps, and during the start process display two warnings. These are intended to discourage people who are not getting help in the forum from just experimenting with tools they do not understand. Just to inform you so you will understand that the procedures are expected, and okay.

ComboFix will also change the drive autoplay settings there as it's own added security measure. When we have completed all repairs here we will return the default Windows settings.

Hi there. I believe I contracted a virus / trojan through Awola 6.0 a few weeks back. I started a thread in the 'Am I Infected' section, here's the link for that full thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/143729/infected-by-awola-60-and-could-really-use-some-help-removing-it/Long story short, I believe this virus was contracted on Wednesday, April 23 around 745pm. My operating system is Windows XP. Whenever I double-click on any .exe file I get an all-black window, and a little window above it with an error message similar to this: "16-bit MS-DOS SubsystemC:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\Winamp.InkThe NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.CS:054d IP: 013d OP: f0 85 38 90 3a Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." I can right-click certain programs and select "Run As" to use them, but can't double-click on anything. I also think this virus has taken over Administrator duties, changed my registry and is preventing me from properly installing programs. It was also preventing me from running anti-virus scans, but I believe we have found a way around this, and I was finally able to process a scan with DSS (and Hijack This). I also did a scan using the Kaspersky scanner. I will copy and paste all logs below. Thanks in advance for all your help. Accidentally closing webpages in Internet Explorer you really didn't want to close, can be a pain.
With Open Last Closed Tab, you can re-open those closed tabs by hitting Alt-X or by selecting the page in the toolbar list of previously closed tabs. The newly added Quick Tab Style View, displayed when you hit Alt-Q, shows you thumbnails of the previous tabs you've closed with filtering support to visually identify pages you want to re-open.
For other browsers please click HERE.

Answer:How To re-open last closed tabs in Internet Explorer & other Browsers

CTRL + SHIFT + T also works best on all browsers.

Hi,

Before we begin, I want you to have this in mind:

At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.

All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.

Yesterday, I got new cable internet service at my new apartment. Everything worked fine on my laptop (running XP) for about 30 minutes and then pages just stopped loading. At the time, I was connected to the router itself, so I figured that it might have just been a problem with the computer (I usually connect via wifi anywhere and disable the LAN connection). I tried connecting internet to my gf's computer (running windows 7) and everything worked fine. I figured that maybe we just needed a wifi router and that would fix it. After going out and purchasing a brand new belkin wireless router, I set it up (using my own computer), and it says it is connected to the network fine, but web pages still aren't opening. I have tried opening pages in three different browsers (ie, firefox, opera). I have looked at various forum posts and tried quite a bit of fixes with no results yet. my computer is also able to ping web pages fine, and when i go into the wireless connection window, it says it is sending packets on it's own (i don't have anything open that would be sending or receiving packets). If anyone could help that would be amazing. I'm really bummed that I haven't had internet for a few weeks and when we finally get it, my computer decides that it's too good to load web pages now.

Hello,

I have recently experienced some annoyances in terms of lag on my computer. Also, the wireless internet light is always on even though i have no browsers open and have disabled avg antivirus for email scanning/instant protect etc. Furthermore, i cannot seem to use msn messenger, every time i try and log on, it tries connecting only to tell me that the service is unavailable, its as though something is blocking messenger from running.

I have ran numerous scans with avg, and kapersky and they don't find any problems. I have also run malwarebytes and it does'nt detect anything either. This is extremely fishy and i know there is something being transmitted via my wireless connection because i can hear it, even though no browsers are open. I have also ran combofix. All the files seem to be in order, but if it is possible, can i have someone check my hijack and combofix logs, maybe there is something i've missed? I am running Windows XP, any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you,

Micheal

Answer:computer lagging, wireless internet light always on even when no browsers open

The wireless light is usually on when the wireless card is turned on, not when its sending data. So it doesn't matter if a browser window is open or not. Can you surf the internet?

There's something about msn messenger that will give you that error if your date/time is wrong. Double check your date and time on your system and make sure they are correct.

As far as analyzing the HJT log, you need to open a new topic in the HJT logs forum and post your log there. That's the only place the Bleeping Computers allows HJT logs to be posted.

The internet browsers on my laptop do not seem to work ever since yesterday. When I click on internet explorer, it opens up a blank window as if it is loading but then it just closes itself and vanishes. Nothing ever shows up on the screen, just a blank screen and then it closes. When I try to open mozilla, the same thing happens and then something pops up and says mozilla has crashed. It is not a network problem because online poker still works. Please help as I cannot go on the internet at all until this is solved. Thanks a ton!

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my internet browsers. I have: Google Chrome, Firefox, and IE (though I don't use IE).

Basically what is happening is that when I'm on a website it will redirect me back to my homepage. And it will do this on and off. It also opens new windows randomly which can get very annoying. It'll open 20 new windows at a time.

Prior to this problem I also had a google redirect problem. Whenever I clicked a link it would redirect me to another site. I basically avoided it by using an AVG safe search engine which didn't seem to be effected. That started about a month ago.

This current problem started up yesterday, so I tried a system restore. That didn't work. I ran the following anti-virus programs: PC Tools Spyware Doctor (full version), AVG free, Maleware Bytes, Avast! Free anti-virus program, and ComboFix (I believe that's the name of it, I got it from bleepingcomputers). Nothing works.

I'm running Windows 7. Can anyone help me? I've tried everything I could think of but I can't figure this out

Hi. I posted in the in the "internet browsers" forum and they told me to post here. ( http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,74107.0.html ) My problem is that that Firefox and IE are not working for me despite being connected to the internet.  However, Opera works fine. Hi,

I had a few viruses/malware on my computer which slowed it down tremendously. I upgraded my zonealarm to its new option of firewall AND antivirus (at the time i already had AVG installed). However zonealarm could not find the threats and neither could AVG so i uninstalled them both and installed Ad-Aware Pro Antivirus (before internet went out) and it found and deleted my virus problems (I THINK), but now my browsers cannot connect to the internet.

Here are my logs, help would be very appreciated.

Thank you,

Ray

Hi Folks,

My computer has been taken over by a virus and I am now only able to visit certain websites that require a password to enter. (facebook, mobileme, banking, etc). Cannot browse general websites (google, msn, windows, etc.). This ocurred on Dec 31st about 2:11PM as I tried to install a program that scanned OK with Norton AV. I then downloaded Twister Anti-Trojan and scanned the file to find out that it was infected with Trojan.Agent.dsci.ynkb. I have tried the Windows Malware Removal and it didn't correct my problem. I cannot find any information about this trojan on the web. Norton AV did give me alerts after the fact stating that conhost.exe was blocked from download by hxxp://4kversions.biz/gsver/gsver.php?sft=master-keystroke-logger-10.11.01&idm=800023

I have unplugged my connection to the internet until I can resolve this.

I have scanned my computer and have attached the files as requested. Any assistance will be appreciated. PS - I am on a different CPU to enter in this request.

My computer has the preloaded restore information (windows) on the D: drive of this computer.
Thanks Gerard

My son's laptop got a virus a year ago...it stopped all the major internet browsers from accessing the internet as well as all anti virus programs from connecting and updating.. It never stopped aol however but couldn't download and update any programs to help. It hid system recovery as well and deleted all restore points...yesterday aol went all web so you can't use it for the net anymore so I am forced to fix the issue. We have many many gigs of stuff on the comp too Mich to move and back up to do av factory restore....how can I fix it so I can give access back to ie explorer or Firefox....I am connected to the net for sure...I tried a bunch of different tricks from the net and it still doesn't work even with all security disabled...it's being blocked from somewhere else please help me and my son....

Answer:virus changed settings blocking internet browsers from net

You system specs show Linux x86_64, but while you mentioned Internet Explorer, I assume, your son's computer is running Windows (whatever version is running). You may try starting simple, to figure out, what's working and what's not. Therefore, first, open CMD (command prompt) and type in:tracert google.comYou should get a list of hops through all the routers and gateways passing the way from your computer to google.com. Post the result of the output here.If this doesn't work, post back the output of ipconfig /all, which must also be typed in, at the command prompt.

MalwareBytes recently found three copies of the Trojan.DNSchanger virus on the computer. These viruses have been previously removed along with others, however, these three continue to come back. Each time that they are removed, the internet browsers stop working. In the past, System Restore has been used & the browsers were reinstalled, however, the viruses were back on the computer. I have currently removed the viruses, checked that no proxy is selected, checked that the computer is set to obtain DNS automatically, flushed the DNS, checked the Hosts file, and uninstalled and then reinstalled FIrefox. The browser is still not working. In addition, my MalwareBytes definitions are outdated by 18 days, however when I try to update them, I receive the error message: Program Error Updating: 11004, 0, no address found. I have reinstalled it, to no avail.

Answer:Internet Browsers Not Working After Trojan.DNSchanger Virus Removal

If something keeps coming back, I would run utility Autoruns and uncheck any suspicious programs.

Hi, I seem to be having a problem with my laptop lately. It has been running a lot slower than usual, especially when browsing the internet.Worse still, since yesterday, I am unable to open any internet browser page as it keeps getting re-directed to another page that google chrome will not allow to open. The number of pop-ups blocked is also sky-rocketing and I am not too sure what virus/trojan/malware is affecting it. I would really appreciate your great help and thank you beforehand for it! Thanks,TraceEdit: Moved topic from Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs to the more appropriate forum, due to the absence of any malware logs included in the topic. ~ Animal

Hi,

I have been transferred here to try to complete my clean up and virus removal. I have the seachnu virus. I have managed to stop the redirect at start up, but when I open new browser windows in IE9 or Chrome it takes me ask.com. Pages don't always load despite numerous attempt to reload and even when pages do seem to load, I can not scroll down on pages. I have run the following tools and posted their respective logs on the "I am infected. What do I do" forum: Security Check, Farbar, Mini Tool box, MBAM, awsMBR.

Here is a link to the original post and logs

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic478945.html/page__p__2925200__fromsearch__1#entry2925200

After running MBAM the third time, as requested by the person who was originally assisting me, the computer crashed during reboot and I got a blue screen. I tried again and it booted just fine.

Hello,

I'm running Win8 on a Samsung 880Z Notebook

Yesterday my access to webpages through chrome was cut off, I switched over to Firefox without a hitch. Today Firefox is also cut off -both browsers cite "Unable to connect" on any page

Internet connection remains consistent - I'm provided by Comcast

I can still connect to the internet through various gaming platforms and communications software (Skype, Steam, B.net Launcher, League of Legends client) which account for the majority of my computer/internet usage.

Once both browsers were down I took a look at my active protection software (McAfee/Norton) and noticed that Norton was also completely cut off from the internet.

A preliminary web search on my mobile device for troubleshoot requests by users who have encountered a similar problem leads me to believe that my computer is likely infected.

I'm a novice to such forums, I hope I have provided enough information to start with, thank you for taking the time to read this and for your assistance if provided. I will be actively awaiting replies while I scour the articles section for tips on future prevention and recommended procedures/activities/software.

Warmly,
James

Answer:Win8 Internet Active - Browsers/Security cannot access - Virus Suspected

Issue resolved.

Did some more searching - removed Norton/McAfee and the browsers began to work again. I've installed Malwarebytes and ran a scan, it picked something up and deleted/quarantined it. In the process of installing Avira Antivirus and I plan to install additional resources mentioned in articles.

I don't understand why though - and I'd like some clarification on that. Why were those programs causing a complete shutdown of my internet browsing? Was it a safety measure in response to a threat? That would explain why removing them entirely gave me access again, but please grant me insight.

After I turned off my PC for the night, the next day I turned it on to find that all of my web browsers "stopped working". The moment I try to open Google Chrome, Firefox, or IE, they all display the message, "_____ has stopped working". the system doesn't prompt me to find a solution or anything of the sort, it simply closes the browser right after I open it, I can't even get online to find help (on a different computer at the moment).

Note: All other programs that are NOT web browsers can still use the internet, updates and downloads still work fine, I simply can't browse the web.

I have already run a complete virus scan with adaware, malwarebytes, and super anti spyware, they all say I'm clean. I am quite honestly at an impasse... please help.

Answer:Any and all of my internet browsers "stop working" and close right after I open them.

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Since it's new laptop, I assume, you don't have much personal data on it, yet. Use Recovery DVD to restore it to day one condition.

About a week ago I began running into some problems and here they are:

1. BSODs on every restart (2 on average)
2. Svchost using 50%+ CPU Usage (this stops when I run McAfee's scan)
3. Can't update anything
4. Ipod isn't showing up along with an error in the Device Manager about it
5. Internet Explorer gets redirected
6. Task Manager doesn't show up

I couldn't get DDS to work so I used RSIT.

So since about a month ago I have noticed my computer is obviously infected with SysProtect, as I get those annoying popups every single day with certain visits to certain websites. I used to get the Winfixer pop ups too but somehow I think a program of mine got rid of them. Anyway, recently I've been trying to log onto certain websites as normal (hotmail.com for example) and my computer will go to the site but once I type my info in, it can't seem to log in correctly. I've noticed on other websites, things are SLOW, and even if it gets to the page, the page isn't loaded correctly and everything is distorted, things are missing, etc. I used a different computer to see if it was possibly the internet connection or maybe the websites themselves, but they worked fine elsewhere. I've run symantec, adaware, spybot, tried to restore my computer settings from before I thought I got the spyware. Also on pages like myspace.com, the stand alone player will not work. WHAT is going on? ALSO- it takes forever for things I type in text boxes like this + to send to go through, and through other sites, it doesn't always work.

Answer:Internet Messing Up

There are some things we can do but first lets try to pinpoint the problem and see if this is just happening while using IE. Download and install Mozilla Firefox. You may receive alerts that "This site might require the following ActiveX control...Click here to install...". i've verified that my internet is working

Have you tried to ping any IP addresses? How about using the DNS name? How are you posting here, with another machine?

So, your AV/Antispyware programs are able to update? Is it just your browser that does not work? Can you plug in an IP address into the browser and have a page show up?

Copy/paste this IP addy into your browser window, and see if it takes you anywhere:

First, I'd like you to run this tool. It might help me see a cause of the issue.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"
and a text file will appear which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so!

Okay, Have got a W32 virus (Unfortunately not sure which one- as soon as I found it I deleted the file without taking the name).

This is whats happening. PC is sooooooooo slow, Nearly always running at 100% CPU, Sound has vanished from my log in yet on other peoples log in on this PC their sound is working okay, the blue bar at the bottom of the screen with my start button and program icon tray is supposed to be blue and smart looking but keeps reverting back to a nasty browny grey that I associate more with Windows 98 and not Xp (Which we have). I installed and ran Avast, it found the virus and destroyed it, i then had to install Mcaffee to destroy the exact same virus that had piggybacked when i downloaded avast (Cheeky bugger)! I also ran Spybot to erase a hell of a lot of spyware. The virus file has been deleted now but the symptoms are persisting. Its really annoying. I don't wanna lose my files- there are some I havent had chance to back up and are irreplacable! System restore wont work I know, but there must be something! Would reinstalling windows help?

So to recap- no sound, really slow, 100% CPU, old style task bar.

Virus: W32 (Full name unsure), it came with the Keygen of Photoshop CS3

I don't know how this virus got passed my Sygate Firewall but it has successfully messed up my Logitech drivers and my Sygate. I think my firewall is still running it just doesn't show in the system tray anymore. I've run AVG and Trendmicro to try to clean my computer but it still seems to be messed up. Can someone help me get ride of this? I think AVG said it was some sort of Java virus.

I recently downloaded a video that came w/a codecs.exe file to play said video. After I double clicked on the file, it extracted the files and then restarted my computer. However, after booting up, I keep getting a pop up in my system tray saying that no firewall is turned on and despite enabling it over and over, it keeps turning off w/the same pop up bubble. Also, when looking @ my norton antivirus, the auto protect is off and the "enable" button does not respond. Also, the email scanning option of norton has "error" next to it. Did I download a virus? I recently downloaded a video that came w/a codecs.exe file to play said video. After I double clicked on the file, it extracted the files and then restarted my computer. However, after booting up, I keep getting a pop up in my system tray saying that no firewall is turned on and despite enabling it over and over, it keeps turning off w/the same pop up bubble. Also, when looking @ my norton antivirus, the auto protect is off and the "enable" button does not respond. Also, the email scanning option of norton has "error" next to it. Did I download a virus? Please help.

And i'm 99% sure i caused it, i downloaded a key generator off of the popular p2p program limewire, (i know, stupid), and almost immediately after, my computer starts running new processes i've never heard of, explorer.exe starts running at 101,000 K rather than the usual 2000k or less, and i cant bear to run a single extra program for fear that my computer will freeze again. (Im running only firefox, the explorer process has been shut down). So if there's anyway you guys can help me get rid of my careless mistake, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

*ps* Gmer.exe would not... well, it wouldn't execute.

Ok some kind of virus has infected my pc and its hard to find.  I did notice it launched an invasive scanning program in My Computer looking for "viruses" but it disappeared later.  Now my computer is very slow, freezes a lot when I try to go online or open folders and when I open a folder it looks very strange with the top blue bar missing and the folder I opened looks like a cut out box you can see the desktop behind it almost like the folder wasn't there.  I think my computer has also been heavily infiltrated by spyware to make the online use so slow.  I just want to confirm should I do the anit-malware and anti-spyware and ccleaner actions in safe mode with my online physically disconnected?  I downloaded and installed AVG free latest update but have not run it yet.  I plan to do that in safe mode.  I'm posting my Hijack This log as an attachment and my computer specs are below.MS Windows XP Home Ed.Version 2002Service Pack 2AMD Athlon XP 3000+2.17 GHz, 1.00GB RAMPS. Okay, here are the problems that I know about.

Symptoms: Computer randomly shuts down and makes noise. Also, when it shuts down it won't restart without attempting to repair and then choosing a restore point. Constant redirecting of webpages on both Opera and Mozilla. Generally slow.

I've done an exhausted search of the programs on my computer and found these to be malicious, but the symptoms remain.

Retrogamer: Can't seem to get rid of it.
MyWebSearch: Can't seem to get rid of it. Redirects webpages and generally seems to slow computer down.
Yontoo Layers: is also on my computer, but I have no idea how it got there.
DealRunner: I removed DealRunner via add/remove programs and did a registry search, but didn't find any files.

Answer:Virus messing up my computer

Hi mercenaryfox

Thank you for your patience. I will be helping you deal with the issues raised in your log from this point onwards

Before we start jumping into things, here is a quick basic note which I mention to everyone. The fix which I have provided for you is for this computer only, it should not be used on any other computer. Each fix is tailor made for the specific task in hand. If for some reason you have system restore disabled, then please re-enable it before proceeding, an infected restore is better than none. Please read through the fix first and set enough time aside to complete the task in one session. If there is anything you feel needs clarification then please ask - do not guess! Thanks.

If this is a computer from a work place then please advise your IT department of the concerning issues before commencing further.

Please follow these directions in the order they are set out for you.

On with the fix.....

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Ok, so my newly purchased Norton 360 wouldn't work like it was supposed to, so I contacted their customer support. They told me I should remove every Symantec-file/folder I could find, and then just reinstall Norton 360 yet again. (The guy told me specific files to delete.)
So there were a couple of files he told me to delete manually, and one of them was this: C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec
That folder wont be deleted though. there's an error message saying that the file is protected or something weird like that (My Windows is in Finnish so it's hard to translate the message accurately.) The actual folder that won't be deleted, or won't even let me open it, is: C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\SRTSP\SrtETmp
What should I do?

Here's my hijackthis log:

Hello everyone! my computer seems to have caught something that's driving me crazy. So far My IE, Firefox and Windows Live Messenger have stopped working every time I launch them i can see the process running on the task manager but they never open up on the desktop. Also every time I install any Malware Removal Software or any program to grab my logs it lets me launch then and then closes them back up taking away all my permission giving me an error that Says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I am able to use Chrome for right now. I am using a windows Vista Machine. Any help would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

I originally had thought this problem was a malware problem but after going through days of troubleshooting in a malware forum I have been sent here. I am using XP Pro and Firefox as my browser. Sometimes I will be browsing and attempt to access a web page and it will not load. My internet is still connected and good and this has happened on my laptop both at work and at home, so I don't think it is router settings at all. The weird thing is is that it doesn't even give the page saying "cannot connect" or whatever it may be, it actually just acts as though I didn't attempt to load a page at all. I will click refresh several times and then finally it will load on one of the clicks, sometimes fully, sometimes not. If I restart my computer or repair my connection it sometimes fixes it for a while. Even weirder is that I listen to online radio at work and throughout this problem my online radio will continue to play. At one point when this problem was happening with my browser I then disconnected my internet and the radio stopped, but had kept playing through the problem. I also tried IE once after I had this problem in Firefox and the problem happened there too. I have no idea what is going on, but it is rather frustrating. Thanks for any help.

Answer:Internet Connection Messing Up

It could be a problem with the NIC card (the card that connects you to the internet on the back of the computer). Do you restart your computers often, or do you leave them on all the time?
