Damn! 'Wrong version of DLL file' on startup! And slow computer!

Question: Damn! 'Wrong version of DLL file' on startup! And slow computer!

Ok, basically, when I log into my file on my computer I get an error message saying 'Wrong version of DLL file' about 5 times. It's really slowing my computer down. I've done a scan, could anyone tell me how to get rid of the error message, and could anyone tell me some unnecessary startups that are slowing my computer down so I can delete them? Cheers!

Preferred Solution: Damn! 'Wrong version of DLL file' on startup! And slow computer!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Damn! 'Wrong version of DLL file' on startup! And slow computer!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\fprotsvc.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1085D4FD-199E-49B5-B405-695C306F96C0} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\inetconnect.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [File Protection Service] fprotsvc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSUpdate] c:\CriticalUpdate.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RegistryMonitor] c:\registry.pif
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Security Hot Fix Update] "%SystemRoot%\mshotfix.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [File Protection Service] fprotsvc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [File Protection Service] fprotsvc.exe
O4 - Global Startup: default.scr
O4 - Global Startup: usbwin32.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\fprotsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\inetconnect.dll
c:\CriticalUpdate.exe
c:\registry.pif
c:\windows\mshotfix.exe
default.scr - most likely in startup folder, so check there.
usbwin32.exe - most likely in startup folder, so check there.

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Answer:'Wrong Version of DLL File' at startup! Please help with hijackthis to make it stop!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis and run it.

Before you give us a new log here, if we gave you instructions for a fix, please do the fixes first and then post the new log with this updated version.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. Answer:"Wrong version of dll file" on start up of Computer

Could be infection-related, an install of uninstall gonewrong, or a corruption of another sort.

Can you capture those dll file names for us, as that would help us look for the source?

Answer:wrong file version

ok.........i figured out what my problem was (in case anyone else has this problem)

go to start - control panel - add remove programs - (remove ANY codecs that are in that list) mine had two "nimo codecs" and "mpeg4 codecs"

if these are needed on your system simply download them again and select the one you need by trial-and-error.

I came across the error vsfilter - Wrong file version! trying to playback a .mpg file using Windows Media Player 11. The media player took me to a site saying I needed an MPEG 2 Decoder. I then searched Google and found that I could try using the K-Lite Codec Pack. Well I installed the codec pack and I still get the error. K-Lite has GSpot built in so I used it to find out if I had the correct codec installed and GSpot says I do. I searched my computer for the vsfilter.dll and I have File Version: 1.01.4. I searched Google again for a fix and came across a site that recommened to other to uninstall the vsfilter and re-register it. I tried this method and it did not work. Anyone know what I can do to fix this error?

regsvr32 -u vsfilter.dll
Press Enter...

regsvr32 vsfilter.dll
Press Enter...

Answer:vsfilter - Wrong File Version?

You can sometimes work-around this issue by installing Cyberlink PowerDVD.

I have had some adventures in the world of codecs. This may or may not provide some useful insight for you, but it costs nothing to look

Hi!!!
Lets get to it, ok?
I got this new laptop a while ago, an Acer Aspire 4810T, intel core 2 solo cpu, 1.40 GHz, 3 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 2007, blah blah blah...

Recently its been pretty darn slow, the startup especially, its disappointing since its supposed to be fast. It takes 4-5 min until I can safely start Explorer without it getting stuck.
Also recently my sister reported a blue screen of death while it was shutting down, but she didnt note down what it said.

It might also be imperative to mention that the systems built in Mcafee has discovered and blocked several cases of Generic.fw and Generic.dx. The prob started occurring ever since that. I cant seem to locate them in the task manager or anywhere else for that matter.

I am having a problem. There is a "wrong dat file" pop up on startup, followed by initialization error. i have done a system restore, but it didn't help.

I have windows 7.

The problem started after I plugged in an USB. the USB kept saying it was write protected and i couldn't copy anything onto it. I unplugged it, and didn't use it again.

I put my computer to sleep last night, and when i restarted it this morning, the error started.

how do i fix it?

So I bought what I thought what the full version of Windows 7 Pro online for the student discount for $65. I got it all installed and the activation key wouldn't work.

Long story short I got the upgrade version on accident. So I got that refunded and I'm about to just go buy Home Premium. I need to install it. Do I need to uninstall Pro before I install Home Premium? Or will it just get rid of it for me when I install it?

Answer:Got the wrong version installed. Need to install correct version

No need to uninstall. The new installer will clear the disk.

Greetings,

I recently just built my first rig, specifications can be seen under my profile, and already experiencing strange occurrences. For the components I have, I would have figured that it wouldn't act up like it is. Recently, while downloading a game, all performance seemed to lack, my windows flashed white, and it seemed that explorer crashed and rebooted. Opening up programs often takes a few seconds and the other day when I unrar'ed a file, (25GBs), it ended up taking over an hour to uncompress the ISO. I have my speculations that it may be my hard drive, which HD Tune shows the read to be, Minimum 8.4 MB/s, and maximum 62.2 MB/s. I often get a "fart", to where as programs would spontaneously freeze and resume within a matter of seconds. It's become really annoying, and I'm not sure what exactly is going on :S.

Other notes:
Fresh OS Installation
Retail Windows 7 Ultimate

Thanks,
Fuhaxian

Answer:Computer Is Slow.... Something Might Be Wrong With It...

Hello SaMuRa1ReM1X and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It does appear that Symantec was once installed and then partially removed. There are still some remnants there but not a complete installation. For assistance with removing the rest of it post a topic in the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

Hi forum!

Recently factory resetted my PC down to how slow it was. Still just as slow!

No idea what's wrong with it. Here's the stats for the laptop, I've got a Dell Inspiron 17r.
OS : Windows 8 64-bit
Intel Core i7 CPU @ 2.20 Ghz
8.0gb Ram
Intel HD Graphics 4000
1tb 5400 RPM HDD

Any ideas?

Answer:Why is my PC so damn slow?

Hello KaseyM and welcome to EightForums. There can be a few things that are causing the slow down issues on your Dell laptop. First, usually factory PC's come with unneeded software that just is a waste and can be safely removed by using PC decrapifier at this link: The PC Decrapifier Wipes Unwanted Junk | The PC Decrapifier if you don't know what to remove, I suggest not doing this and follow the below steps.

2. try disabling some of the visual effects that are turned on, the visual effects can be accessed by following the instructions found here Visual Effects - Adjust in Windows 8. I disabled a few of the effects and it made my brothers Windows 8 laptop run a bit faster.

3. Check to see if there are any issues with your hard drive by following this guide: CHKDSK - Check a Drive for Errors in Windows 8. If there is a hard drive issue than it may be the culprit of your laptop being slow.

4. Check to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop's motherboard and install any new Windows updates.

5. If the issue still persists, hopefully other members that have more knowledge than me can chip in to figure out a solution.

Hope I helped

The problem with the computer I am trying to fix (parents laptop) is that I cant find what is wrong with it. Except the computer is just used for surfing the internet and email. Has used up about 25% of GB yet it is very slow.

I have run an avg scan as well as adaware scan andn cant find anything but there must be something with the computer because it is too slow. It is possible that a trojan or other type of malware might be slowing down the pc because of lack of security or discernment when opening emails or visiting sites.

First off, I'm not very computer savvy (I would like to think that I am, but I'm not)

I have a windows XP, and I've had it for at least over a year. Origonally this computer is very quick but we ended up extracting a few viruses, we think, and things started going slower, and weird things started to happen. Since we were too frustrated, and we were thinking of Reinstalling our computer to restore it to what it came with (Since it started off being fast)

Well, we've already done that, and it's only been a month and things are going slow again. Is there something about the computer that I'm not understanding? Do I need to get new memory or something?

Answer:My healthy computer is going slow, what's wrong?

could you post your machine specs please ?

Answer:Slow Startup, Very Slow Computer During Use, Possible Spyware / Virus Infection

Hi RoThiSePh, Our apologies for the delay. If you still require help, please post a new fresh log so I can see if anything has changed. If you have not done so already, please do the initial cleanup steps in the following instructions before posting your new log: Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis LogI see a little on there that needs looking into and some of the programs you mention I agree need to be uninstalled. I just need to see what's changed since your post and if you include a list of installed programs I can assist you with that and it will possibly give some insight into removing some malware.Open HijackThis. If you still have the New Users Quickstart screen enabled, click Open Misc Tools Section. If you just have the regular opening screen, click the Config... button then the Misc Tools button. Now click the Open Uninstall Manager button, then the Save List button. Save the list somewhere convenient like My Documents and then the list will open in Notepad. Copy and Paste that list into your next reply to this post then we'll get started.

hi. just got this new laptop and almost immediately managed to contract a trojan horse. avg free picked it up as winrvc.dll and it had a companion: A0000991.dll that was hiding in the system volume information _restore. avg says it quarantined and fixed both these things, but since the day they came into my life the computer has been super slow and acting really weird.

i deleted winrvc's registry key and started up in safe mode to disable whatever i saw fit during start up and that helps a lot, but the computer still isn't running like it was 2 weeks ago when i unpacked it; i fear that there's something else stuck in here that wants to ruin my life.

i reenabled everything i had disabled and here is my hijack this log:

My computer has gotten molasses-slow over the past 6-12 months with no major new programs. Could it have something to do with the 71 processes that Task Manager reports when the computer is freshly started, with no programs opened? They use about 1 Gb of RAM - is that high? High or not, the computer is definitely very, very slow.

For example, is it okay to have 12 instances of svchost.exe?

I know you can look up processes online but it's not that simple. Can anyone recommend a preferred site for this? The problems is that sites tend to (1) report wide-ranging, contradictory opinions submitted by many users, and/or (2) provide useless non-definitions like "abcd.exe is a executable file for Windows. The filename extension .exe is the abbreviation for executable." A lot of the sites look like bogus aggregators or click farms.

Also, please be aware I am most of the way through this big list of steps for optimizing Win 7: Optimize Windows 7

Attached: process list sorted by size and alphabetically.

PS - I am most of the way through this optimization list, but plan to do Black Viper's services tweaks after checking out the running processes.

Answer:71 processes at idle / computer slow - what's wrong?

I have around 78 at the minute but i do have a few things open so im usually around the same mark,
In terms of general slowness, you could have a few unwanted goodies in your system, i suggest running these

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your ... Read more

Answer:Computer becomes real slow, but not sure whats wrong

Everything looks ok. Lets clear some junk and scan for some viruses:

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. Once it's done, you may click the Close button. When asked if you want to logoff, choose Yes.

Please empty any Quarantine folder in your antivirus program and purge all recovery items in the Spybot program (if you use it) before running this tool.

Download the Mwav virus checker at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode.
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file. This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything.
4. Select all local drives, scan all files, and press SCAN. When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and highlight all the information in the Lower pane --- Use &CTRL C &on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file
*Note* If prompted that a virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning. We are not going to use this to remove anything...but to ID t... Read more

Im am having problems playing mp3 music. For some reason during playing it jumps and plays slowly. It sounds as if the computer is struggling to play the song, as if it does not have enough resources.

The computer was wiped and reinstalled jsut the other day so it shouldnt have too much crap running, and the specs are up to scratch:

AMD 3000+
1GB kingston (2x512)
120GB SATA HDD
Windows XP Pro
Sound blaster live 5.1

I ahve tried playing the music with media player, musicmatch jukebox and winamp, with no success.

Any suggestions anyone?

Answer:Why does my music play so damn slow? please help

So I've noticed this recently, maybe last month. Now when cumulative security updates are rolled out like today w10 takes ages to install them. I just decided to install the updates and regretted it immediately after it took at least 15 minutes of my time. WHY? When the same security rollup (or at least similar) will install in a few seconds on Windows 7.

I was staring at the "don't turn off your computer" screen twice for at least 5 minutes each and I was very tempted to turn off my computer.

Anyone else notice longer update times recently?

My computer recently started to take so long to boot up into windows and when it does it takes such a long time to get to the desktop.  For example..when I turn on the computer it goes to the Microsoft Windows Screen and stays there for about2 or 3 minutes...then it goes to a blank black screen for maybe a minute...then finally to the desktop where it still takes another 2 minutes to get things to load and work.  I sure need to know how to solve this problem.  By the way it is a Windows  XP.--

Answer:Computer is very slow and takes forever to boot up...what is wrong??

Step 1

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Clean.
Confirm each time with Ok.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner\AdwCleaner[S0].txt as well.
Step 2

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
Step 3.

Please download HitmanPro. to your desktop.
HitmanPro (32bit)
HitmanPro (64bit)
Launch the program by double clicking on HitmanPro.exe. (Windows Vista/7 users right click on the HitmanPro icon and select run as administrator).
Click on the next button. You must agree with the terms of EULA.
Check the box beside "No, I only want to perform a one-time scan to check this computer".
Click on the next button.
The program will start to scan the c... Read more

Answer:plzz help my pc is really slow becoz of damn spyware!

In the future, please do not post HJT logs unless they are requested.

You did not complete all the steps in the READ ME. See step 1 of the cleaning process. There are two online scanners listed (BitDefender & RavAntivirus). They were not run.

After completing ALL of the READ ME FIRST continue with the below:

- download Nail/Bolder/Aurora Remover 0.3.1 Beta and save it to its own folder like c:\ABIremover

- Now extract the abiremover.exe file from the ZIP file into the folder you created but do not run the EXE yet. We will run it later.

- Now boot into safe mode, run the abiremover.exe but make sure you are physically disconnected from the internet (unplug your cable to be sure). Just click install, wait (explorer window will disapear)

- When abiremover finishes just reboot into normal and continue with the below steps.
Also download HOSTER and then follow the below steps.

Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster

Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
Click the X to exit the program
Now post a new HJT log attachment.

Answer:Slow Computer,crashing & Slow Startup

Hello Sc00by22 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forum.

I was deframenting All volumes with Auslogics Defragmenter. I was working with MS word Suddenly my system slowed down. Damn slow. Only thing that's moving faster is my mouse cursor. I minimised word window, it minimised after 20seconds. I found Auslogics Defragmenter in non-responsive mode. I clicked Startmenu to restart my system. I took 40seconds for me to click that restart button. My laptop shutdown after 4minutes. Now I turned on my system, everything is damn slow. System boots to logon screen normally. After I type password and press enter. Everything goes in slow motion. I have to wait one minute to get response for my every click. This happens even in safe mode.
What to do?

Answer:My laptop is damn slow after Auslogics defragmenter crash

When you defrag using any defrag program you should do nothing else on the computer until the defrag process is done.

I personally use Windows 7 built in defrag program. I do it manually (when I used hard drives). Some 3rd party defrag programs don't get along with Windows 7.

Hi Guy's

Found your site invaluble for getting rid of req.dat problem I had.
So thought I would try to get some help with my slow startup times (apprx 5 min + 3-5 once loged in).

I also have a problem with slow file trancfer rates between hard drives.(400 meg = 50-60 min) They are ATA100 drives 120gb each.

I have attached a copy of Hijakthis log file as I think it may help.
The only thing that stands out to me is lthe large amount of referances to Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480.

Any help / sujestions would be great!

This is my son's computer. I mention this as it is a fairly unfamiliar machine to me. It is a Dell Latitude D620 running Windows XP Home SP3 with an Intel T2300 @ 1.66GHz and 0.99 GB of RAM (odd number, yes?). He's been having trouble with his media player recognizing his DVDRW drive, it is also extremely slow and for some reason Windows keeps saying his avast! is probably out of date. I've run the avast! virus scanner, also Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware free version, we have Spyblaster installed, and I've run CCleaner. These have picked up nothing out of the ordinary that doesn't appear under regular maintenance and I've taken care of those. Still, the problems persist.

The most pressing is the DVDRW problem. A week ago it worked. When a DVD is placed in the drive now and Windows Media comes up it gives a pop-up window that states: "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings." I have tried adjusting the display settings every possible way and even clicked the web help on that pop-up to try and resolve this to no avail. You have helped me so much in the past with problems on my machine I am hoping you can solve this dilemma as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I place this post here as I was not sure it belonged in the Malware forum. If this is an inappropriate ... Read more

I have a HP Pavillion dv9417ca Notebook PC with AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Technology Tl-56, 2.0G Ram, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 with Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2.

The computer when running slowly makes a ton of noise starting up and running and tends to use more processing. The computer sometimes makes weird noises that aren't normal windows sounds and come from error's. Like intense beeping noises ocassionally. Firefox especially is insanely slow and the longer I run it the more processing power it uses up along with the plugins.exe. Sometimes it will uses so much that it completely freezes my computer. Lately I've also been having trouble starting the computer where it won't even load windows.

I've ran Ccleaner daily and Malwarebytes weekly and find nothing and the problem has been getting progressively worse. I have Avast which updates daily.

Hey guys, i'm new to this forum, obviously since this is only my first post. I don't know where to actually post this so if a forum mod would like to move this feel free.

But i'm looking for a way to crash a Windows 7 computer, using a batch file. I know a decent amount about DOS/Batch files, but i don't know exactly how to crash a windows 7 computer using a batch file, because there was only one way i really wanted to do it, but with Windows 7 security fail safe, i can't take control and delete my "c:\windows\system32" folder.

You're probably asking me why i would like to do this, and the reason is because it's a school project. My instructor would like us to crash one of this lab computers using a batch file, which all i can do is Right-click>Run As Administrator. He wants it done with a lot of stylish stuff, and etc. But i'm not here for that, all i'm curious about is some different, unique, cool ways to crash a Windows 7 computer.
Batch file will be copied to the desktop and run as administrator.(No files other than the batch file may be copied to desktop)
Additional files can be utilized either as a result of creation through the batch file, as a result of downloading from the Internet or files native to the lab workstations.
Additional files are only to be utilized through the batch file
Speakers are available on-demand
Damage must be contained within the local machine

Is everything i'm allowed to do, plus i can use hardware damage.

Hi,

The computer I am cleaning was very slow at first and filled with malware (perhaps it still is). Google and other websites were mysteriously blocked. After having scanned it with Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG 8.5, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, and Windows Live OneCare the computer has been running a bit faster and access to the previously unacceptable websites (such as Google) now work.

However, the computer is still slow (I will upgrade the memory, 512 MB DDR right now!!) and decided to run AVG 8.5 on Safe Mode. The following is the report:

My computer has been running very slow for the last few weeks. It is especially slow when running firefox. When I run IE, I have a pop-up that comes up after about 5 minutes that says that the 'Skype IE Plugin Version 0.0.0.0.' has failed and then freezes the program, the pop-up also included a reference to this file: 'ntdll.dll'. Also I have noticed that a new yahoo! toolbar has been added to all of my broswers that I can't get rid of. This all started when I downloaded a FLV player a couple of weeks ago. I (am stupid) took a ghost image file (.gho) from my stationary computer and loaded it to my notebook.
Starting up the notebook, it only came to 'Loading windows 98...', then locked up. I tried this many times.
Now, unfortunately, battery is dead and it won't even run/start with AC adapter.
Have I killed it?

Note: The graphic card and sound card etc. are different between my stationary and the notebook. Different computer all together.

Thanks for any info

sorry, if this not the right place please move. I did many google searches cant seem to find the issue Im having, or maybe lack of the right key searches. You guys are my last hope.
I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Extracting 700mb files from Winrar would take around 8mins

Playing Youtube, WMP, of VLC videos would be slow and choppy.

Transferring files from one PC to another over a crossover cable would take much longer. 4gigs of files would take about 20mins or so.

Virus scanners, Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot would also take much longer than usual.

So, about 2 weeks ago while my brother was on Youtube my... Read more

Question: DAMN NEW COMPUTER

i got a new ASUS touchscreen laptop for christmas, have used it 3 times. got photos on it from christmas eve. Anyways, for some strange reason it wont startup properly, comes up with "Diagnosing PC".. im pretty sure and then up comes a blue screen. In white writing it says automatic repair then explains how auto rep. cant repair my computer. Can anyone help me use command prompt and hack into my picture files? im definitely taking it back to the store and asking for a new one but i just want the photos first. thanks (:

Answer:DAMN NEW COMPUTER

I wouldn't call data recovery "hacking"Anyway, there are a few workarounds to this. The first thing we want to do is avoid opening the case, because the computer is still under warranty and we don't want to void that. To get your photos off the laptop, you will need a blank CD and a flash drive of appropriate size, or 2 blank flash drives. I prefer Ubuntu for non-complicated access and recovery issues, so we will start there. Ubuntu is a Linux OS that can be run from a CD or flash drive without installing to the hard drive, and thus allowing us to access your data.Download Ubuntu. It is a decent size, so download time depends on your connection. To burn it to a CD: Download InfraRecorder, select the Installer 2000/XP/Vista/7 option. Install it to your computer and open it. Open the program and select the "Write Image" option Navigate to the Ubuntu .iso image you have downloaded (most likely in %user%\Downloads ) Follow the prompts and burn the iso image to a CD or DVD. You shouldn't need to change any options. To boot from a USB flash drive:Go here and follow the instructions.

Like the title says, my computer is slow at startup and it tends to respond slowly when opening programs...

I got tools like CCleaner, AV, Ad-aware, Spybot, ZoneAlarm, Microsoft AntiSpyware, etc. in short, i got all the tools needed to fight malware and i update them regualrly.. so i dont think it's a spyware problem...

I found threads similar to this one but they dont really help me...

however, it's probably because i got a lotta processes running.. my CPU usage is higher than usual... Also, I've downloaded RegCleaner but i dont know what to remove...???

What info do i need to give?
My OS is XP Home. Service Pack 2...

if u need more info, tell me..

Somebody please help me!
i may not be a "Private E-2" but i'm still not a pro...

Thanks in advance..

Hello all. I'm hoping someone out there can help me figure out what is going on with my laptop. I have a Pansonic Toughbook CF-52 with a Core 2 Duo 8400 and 1 GB RAM. Last week, it started to lag really bad when running ANYTHING. Even if my internet connection is disabled, I still get lag. Programs that once opened up quickly now take quite a bit of time to load. Outlook, Excel, Word, Internet Explorer and even anti-spyware programs are slow in opening. Even going into My Documents, which normally takes only 1 second, now takes 5-10 seconds or longer! I bought this laptop through my employer and I only had McAfee on it. I recently installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it found a Trojan, which I was able to remove easily. I also installed Ad-Aware and it came back with a clean scan. I ran HiJackThis but didn't notice anything that was out of the ordinary, however I could be wrong. I ran the DDS program found here and have attached the appropriate files. I've also attached my HiJackThis Log. I tried running GMER, but it causes my system to crash and reboot. I recently ran chkdsk and it found & fixed a few errors, however this did not fix the problem. If you can provide ANY help with this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I want to mention that I do not have Administrator access on this computer, however I have had no problems installing, repairing, uninstalling etc. Thanks in advance for your help.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Colonial ... Answer:Computer running slow for past week. No new installs. McAfee, Malwarebytes' & Ad-Aware find nothing wrong

This just happened and wanted to let you know. Outlook just gave me a message stating that "a program is trying to access e-mail address information stored in outlook." I was not doing anything that could have triggered this.

Hi,I'm having trouble with the start-up and general running of my computer. It doesn't take long to load windows, but once the files begin starting up, (popping up onto the toolbar etc.) it slows down alot and responds very slowly for a few minutes. It also runs abnormally slow randomly when running, and there's a big slowdown if I open up multiple programs (Word, Internet Explorer, etc.) at once. I've already been cured of viruses and as far as I know all spyware and adware, so this isn't an urgent problem, but I'd like to get it fixed. I have a computer that was built by a friend who has moved away.

Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz memory 1GB running WindowsXP Intel desktop board D95XBX.

I am mostly doing AutoCad drawings, and surfing the net . Every time I start up the computer, it takes an average of 10 minutes, The same happens when I try to open applications like Word, or Autocad.
It takes about 1 minute or so for applications to open.

what could be causing this? your help is most appreciated.

Answer:Computer very very slow @ startup

Trixietrack, why dont you try to use tune-up utilities software to optimize performance of your computer for internet use and memory usage as well. otherwise you have to configure your start-up manager to select only the important programs to run during the loading process.

you can also maximize virtual memory from the computer/system properties/advance system settings/advance performance settings/advance virtual memory. by changing "set" to maximum.

First, uninstall SystemDoctor 2006 Free. It's a rogue program.

Second, how much RAM does the computer have?

Third, rescan with Hijack This.
Close all browser windows except Hijack This.
Put a check mark beside these entries and click "Fix Checked".

I did a scan and found that I had a trojan horse which was put in a virus vault. Upon starting up my computer takes a long to to load up. Is there any solution to this problem. Just for information. I put in a flash drive and when I was done I got an error message saying it was being used by another program. I couldn't remove the flash drive. I eventually turned the computer off and took it out. Something appears to be wrong.

My computer's startup is very slow. I'm pretty sure my system is clean from any kind of malware, thanks to Kevin (kevinf80), who helped me immensely with a recent malware problem that I've had. I just think it's all the programs that run on startup that is causing this problem.
Can anybody please help me make my computer faster? Thanks.
