I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please let me apologize in advance for being a noob. This is my better attempt to comply with the posting requirements. I previously posted in another thread but left out some important things. I marked it as 'solved' and started a new thread. The zip files are still attached to the old thread at: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...ok-466908.html

Last week, I clicked on a pop-up disguised as a warning about an attack from Microsoft Security Essentials. The situation felt terribly familiar to what I had done last year with an infected pop up disguised to look like Microsoft Security Center. Both times I backed out without fully downloading and the last time I was for sure left with an infection.

The symptoms are different, though. At that time, the security software I was using (Windows Live One Care, I think) kept detecting & removing the infection - which would just have returned (and sometimes with some friends) by the next scan.

This time, MSE detected and removed 4 programs (they were also listed as quarantined items - which have since been removed through the MSE control panel). Since they were removed, all MSE scans come back clean. I also downloaded and ran TrendMicro House Call which came back clean as well.

These are the 4 programs that MSE found and removed:

Since then, all MSE scans come back clean. I also tried running a scan with Trend Micro House Call, which also came back clean.

Today, everyone in my hotmail address book received an email from my account with only a link to a hazardous google site.

I checked my 'Send' folder an see no such emails being sent. For security, I already changed my email password but don't think that was the only problem.

Answer:[SOLVED] Hotmail account spammed address book

I should add that the infection that happened last week was due to a pop up that I clicked on that was disguised as the MSE security software. I did click on the link, but backed out & shut down through the task manager before completely downloading. I'm afraid it was too late, though.

Nothing was changed in Hotmail to my knowledge, i.e. contact list was not deleted. I deleted the contents myself and left only a second email I use to see if more messages get sent out. So far nothing today....

I hope I'm being thorough enough, but if I could provide anything more, please let me know.

Thank you,
Beth

Hi there,

I'm hoping somebody can help!

My Hotmail account has been copromised in some kind of way. It keeps sending out e-mails with the subject of 'Hi' and the base of the message includes a link to a site called easybuyshopcn.com. I also lost all my e-mails in my inbox for the last 2 months. I scanned my computer using Norton, Spybot S + D and Lavasoft Ad-Aware and have cleared all of the results but it still seems to be sending these e-mails out automatically.

I have done a scan using Hijack This and have attached the log file.

If anyone can help at all, I'd be really graetful.

Thanks for taking the time to read...

Rob.

Hello and welcome. we need to do some scans and change your router password.Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds). If you don?t know the router's default password, you can look it up HERE.However, if there are other Zlob-infected machines using the same router, they will need to be cleared with the above steps before resetting the router. Otherwise, the malware will simply go back and change the router's DNS settings. You also need to reconfigure any security settings you had in place prior to the reset. Check out this site HERE for video tutorials on how to properly configure your router's encryption and security settings. You may also need to consult with your Internet service provider to find out which DNS servers your network should be using.Once you have ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on the infected system, and reset the router to its default configuration you can reconnect to the internet, and router.MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfe... My hotmail contact list has been accessed via a rogue e-mail disguised as coming from a trusted family member. It is sending out messages in my name, often with the subject of "woow" and "amazing" etc and asking you to click on a message to view the pictures or video. You then get the official looking MSN log in site for your password to log in, as if your PC has temporarily had a glitch.
How can I cure this and eliminate any dangers.

i had a virus last week, which someone on mse kindly fixed (didnt know about here then, so apologies!). i ran scans etc and my laptop was cleaned.

yesterday, i got up to find that i had undelivered mail and out of office replies for emails which i hadnt sent. it was a "shopping" one which was obviously a spam one - it had been sent to everyone in my address book - the top part of the email detailed everyone's details.

after taking advice on mse yesterday, i changed my password on another computer, then ran malware bytes which said my laptop had no nasties on it.

ive tried to send hotmail today, but my contact list has disappeared. Are the 2 events related? is there anything i can do to get the list back?

i run on firefox, have free avg, windows firewall. malaware, superantispy and spybot are all clean. as you have probably guess, i'm not that technically minded. I am unable to post a malaware log, as it won't let me get into it.

thanks for your help.

Hi Everyone,

Here's my mini dilemma: Am attempting to delete unused email addresses from my hotmail (free) account. When I attempt to delete a contact (by check marking their address and then hitting delete) I am asked: "am I sure I want to delete this contact". When I answer yes I get an error message at the top of the screen with a yellow box. The error message asks the same question and answering yes again doesn't get me anywhere. - i just get the same error again.

Any ideas? - I have already attempted to do this on a different computer so i know my system isn't the problem.

Thanks for your help.

I have never knowingly given out my email addy, but did receive a few dodgy emails a while back, after a friend of a friend of a friends 'puter was hacked, and a ton of spam was sent bouncing around all their contacts.

Other than closing the account, (I'd rather not as it's my name) any ideas for a fix please?

My daughter wants to change her hotmail account to a yahoo email account. Is there a way she can transport her hotmail "contacts" into her yahoo email address book?

Answer:transport hotmail contacts to yahoo address book?

Hi MRBEE

I don't know of an easier way, someone else might.

Start a new message, click the To: button.
Add all the Contacts to the To: window.
Select all the Contacts in the To: window and Cut them, Paste the Contacts in the body of the message.

The Contacts would then appear as:
[email protected],[email protected],[email protected] etc.

The Contacts can then be edited to appear on their own line by clicking Enter at each comma and removing the comma before sending the message so they look like this:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
Send the message to the new Yahoo account.

She might be able to use Quickbuilder for the Yahoo Address Book to add the addresses.
It did not work all that well for me.

I have looked it over several ways, and there just does not seem to be an easy way to share the Hotmail Contacts with another messaging program.
Hopefully, as I said earlier, someone else has a better way.

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

4. Whichever screen I receive- whether I input scrambled letters yet again or insert my name and password the process repeats itself and one of two things happens:

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.

As the title says, my Hotmail account is spamming those in my address book with a particular email. I am also receiving daily dozens of failed deliveries to other unknown addresses. My anitvirus software is Symantec and is up to date.

I've looked around and believe it may be Goshopex or a variant.

From the times and dates of the undelivered email, the account is sending spam when I am off line too. So I believe the account is being spoofed elsewhere.

Here is the spam. I cannot find it online as a tip off for the virus:

If the spam is being sent while you're not even offline, then it's possible that either your e-mail address is being spoofed or that your account has been compromised. I had several hotmail accounts that I could view in the Nokia 930 windows 10.
I have not installed any apps (however there wsa an app that I do not know what was doing there with the text showing @\user\microsoft\windowsapp\ etc. the text was longer an I was not able to remove the app)
However the problem of the emails did not arise after the above app was mysteriously installed but happened before.
It looked like that one specific account was inexplicably confused with another email account...e when I was tapping on one Icon app of hotmail account I would actually read the email of another account.
My main Email setup account within windows phone setup had disappeared and when trying to re added it was saying that it was already setup.
Therefore I could only but hard rest my phone. I have hard reset it four times now and every time I setup the account with my main Email account everything is fine but when I add another email account it all goes wrong with similar variations of the above issue and now I even have an error message saying the account the I added
Now I am getting has the settings out of date. I tap FIX button there is some activity but nothing happens.
How can I fix this!!!

Hi, this is my first post here and i really do hope you can help as i have not been able to get any help from the regular forums i visit.

For the last 2-3 weeks i have been facing an issue when trying to use hotmail. I log on fine, and then i get a message recommending that I upgrade my web browser 'so you can get the most out of Windows Live Hotmail'. Until a few days ago i kept thinking it was a issue with hotmail but now i realize it is something to do with my system.
I have uninstalled & reinstalled IE7 - no luck
Then i downloaded & installed Firefox 3 - exact same message.

Today while trying to log onto facebook i get a similar message
"You are using an incompatible web browser". Please upgrade. I cannot even log in.

I have no clue what is going on and would really appreciate your help on this matter.
My operating system is XP home, with SP3.

Answer:IE7 - Face book & Hotmail claim incompatibility

sorry forgot to mention that
1) i had been fidling around with Windows services a few weeks back. disabled some but cannot remember any direct link to this probalem at hand.
2) using Zone Alarm security suite

hope this helps in some way. Thanks again,

Can you get back old Hotmail account, after having renamed it to new Outlook account?
Well here is Microsoft's answer on Reddit!

If you renamed your account, and want to rename it back to the original name, you can do that.
IMPORTANT: This may not work if you are outside of the US and have a "@live.com" or "@Hotmail.com" address!
First, remove the alias that was created when you renamed your account (the alias will be for the original name).
Go to http://account.live.com, select "Notifications" then "manage your email preferences" and you'll find links to remove aliases.
Second, go back to the Rename page, Sign In and rename back to the original name.

Hope it helps someone!

Go into All Settings and choose Accounts. Under the 'Your Account' menu you'll see an option on the right to 'Sign in with a local account instead' - choose this.

Ask them for a appeal? The only ones who will know what happened is them. Do you happen to use Skype to send adult content? I hear they have been cracking down on that more.

For the past week, since 8/18/2004, E-mail that I send to Yahoo and Hotmail via Outlook Express 6, is being delayed. It is only certain addresses. It is taking up to 2 days and occassionally there is a mail failure. Hotmail sends me messages that the mail is being delayed and not to resend, but the recipient never receives it. My E-mail address is not blocked. When I send via internet, all is well. I have no other problems sending or recieivng to others.

Any thoughts?

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook 2003)

I was using the older version of Outlook Connector to access my Hotmail account, but recently it said that I needed to upgrade it. The automatic upgrade did not work properly, so I manually removed/un-installed the old Outlook Connector, removed the hotmail account within Outlook, and I also removed a bunch of hotmail.ost files hanging around that seemed to have no data in them (in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) - I believe they were formed when I was going through all the problems with the supposedly automatic upgrade).

Then I manually downloaded and installed the newest version 14.1 for 32-bit and through the Outlook connector interface within Outlook, re-added the Hotmail account. But now when I try to click on any Hotmail folder, the following error message appears:
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

So I feel like I am back at square one and not sure how to get the Connector to start connecting. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Hotmail Connector unable to connect to Hotmail

Amazingly, I finally found the answer in another forum, of course only after I went to the trouble of making my earlier posting.

SETTING THE HOTMAIL ACCOUNT AS THE DEFAULT EMAIL ACCOUNT solves the accessing problem. I hope this can help some other poor souls out there!

I know some people have multiple hotmail accounts that they want to sync up with Outlook, and have no idea what to do in that case, but if you only have one account, this seems to work.

Hi everyone

I tried to use Outlook 2002 to access my hotmail. I used the POP3 settings, got it to work, and hit send/receive. Now none of my emails from my Inbox are in my hotmail account when I use my web login. Why did it do this and how do I reverse it? I tried to find some answers on the Microsoft site but they give pretty generic answers there. The answers I've got here in the past were much better.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Answer:Hotmail + Outlook 2002 = no emails at Hotmail site

Try going to Tools > Email Accounts > View or change existing accounts > Select your account and click Change > Click More Settings > Advanced tab. From here there should be a check box that allows you to set whether you want your emails to be left on the server.

I am having some trouble with my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. I can open mail in Yahoo but can't delete it. I can't even open any email at Hotmail. It seems when I click on a button online the browser doesn't go anywhere. I tried various things suggested in this forum but nothing seems to work. Please help me. My computer is working great now that you guys helped me last week. I am extremely grateful!!

Answer:Can't delete Hotmail or Yahoo mail and can't open Hotmail

Hi
Lots of people have problems with Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The most common causes seem to be cookie rejection, incorrect firewall settings, and/or an overly aggressive and intrusive firewall like ZoneAlarm that does a lot of things without asking.

Are you able to access the email accounts from a computer at another location? (other house, library, etc.)

Did you recently change any settings in a program or install a new program or a new version of or update for one, especially some security program (firewall, antivirus, etc.)?

Do you have a router?

Is your trash folder overfull?

I hope somebody can help me. I'm not sure where to turn. I had a hotmail account with all my contacts. This Saturday one of my horses is running in the Kentucky Derby and I had a picture of the horse I sent out in a mass mailing to all my contacts.

Hotmail closed my account and will not let me back into it. It is now my understanding that you can't send such mailings or they will stop the service for you.

Is there any way I can appeal to them to get at least my contacts? I don't know who to write or contact to request this. I would certainly hope that someone has had this problem and can tell me how I can at least get my contacts.

Thanks for any and all help.

My email address ends in @Hotmail.com.I receive emails with no problems, when I compose a new email or forward

When I click CLOSE the message is "You are about to throw away these messages without sending them".The only option
then is CONTINUE.The messages always show in the "sent" folder, some get to the receipient and some don`t.
Any idea whats going on?
Regards.

Answer:Hotmail account

Are you logging into the account by way of web browser or by the new Mail app? For older WLM and Hotmail as well as Live accounts you would want the Windows Essentials 2012 over the new Mail app.

Logging in directly online you would add the destination is as a new contact if not already in your address book there so the emails being sent will go through. I find that every time I go to send an email out to a new contact and forget to add the address in first as a new contact the draft will be saved. I see that with both the old Live accounts as well as at times with the accounts at outlook.com

I can receive mail from this new account to my own hotmail account but I am having problems receiving e-mail from this account to my Outlook Express.

Can anyone please offer any advice.

If your friend is using the free hotmail service, then you cannot access the account with an editor such as Outlook Express. You can only access Hotmail externally if the account is a paid option.

and this is the message on the screen:

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

When I try to log in via My MSN, I can view the subjects of the first several e-mails, but can't access them.

Answer:Can't log into Hotmail account, but others can from same PC

Hi,

I've seen similar problems with Hotmail and Yahoo acounts. I think the volume on these "free" accounts is SO HIGH.......that it fills to capacity as far as availability. My advice would be to try again at different times. This problem makes these accounts very unpredictable and somewhat unreliable because of the availability issue.

Hi all

Has anybody else been locked out of their Hotmail account lately?

I have been locked out since Friday May 17th.

At first I could not get Hotmail to recognise even my account name. When it finally did, it would not accept my secret answer and redirected me to msn support.

msn support now tll me there is no such account, even though there is still a secret question logged against it and email sent to it dos not return undelivered.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I foresee a huge security blunder on the horizon. Possible scenarios include a distributed denial of service or mass email virus dissemination through 'disappeared' Hotmail accounts.

I'd appreciate knowing if mine is trhe only one.

Question: Hotmail account ?

Could you explain The account policies that govern your use of Hotmail are detailed in our Online Help. Please note that you must sign into your Hotmail account at least once every 30 days. If you do not, your account will become inactive. After being inactive for 90 days, it will be deleted. Answer:Hotmail account ?

sportman10,

From Hotmail Help page - Close Account:
If you don't sign in for 30 days (or within the first 10 days), your account will become inactive. At that time, any messages in your account will be deleted and inbound e-mail will be refused. Your Passport will still function, and your Hotmail e-mail name will be reserved. If your account stays inactive for a further 90 days, it is permanently deleted, and your e-mail name is no longer reserved. Click to expand...

I tried logging into my account and a msg popped up saying that I have tried to log into my account too many times or I am trying with a wrong user id and password. I know this was not the case since I had tried to login once only. Since then, I have not been able to access my hotmail account. Looks like my account is blocked and I need to access it asap. Please help!

Question: Hotmail account

My email address ends in @Hotmail.com.I receive emails with no problems, when I compose a new email or forward
on emails, more times than not I get the error message "Can`t connect to Outlook please try later"with a CLOSE button.

My son has a hotmail account. My husband and I both email him from our respective mchsi accounts regularly. I found out the other day that my son receives my husband's emails, but not mine. I asked my son if he has me blocked...he checked and said I wasn't. What else could be causing this problem? He does receive my emails if I send them from my aol account.

Thank you for any help you can offer.
Pam

Answer:can't get into hotmail account

I'd try to contact hotmail. They may be able to reset password.I guess you could try your account on a friends computer that has been shown to work with hotmail.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

I had an @hotmail.co.uk email address.

I created a new @outlook.com as I had too much spam.

I can't log back into the @hotmail.co.uk email addresss as I wanted to close it and I've tried the forgot password method but still had no success.

My question is what happens if I leave the email address for example not attempt to login to the account for a long period of time, will it automatically be deleted?

Answer:Hotmail.co.uk account?

The account should get canceled after 270 days of inactivity.
