Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

Hello,

For the last two weeks my laptop has been having troubles with its network adapter (Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter).

Every time my computer starts up from sleep mode or just a normal start up my icon in the bottom right hand corner shows a black box with a plug in it and says no network connection available.

I then proceed by opening up the "Network and Sharing Center," clicking on the "Change Adapter Settings" button in the top left corner, right click on the "Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter" icon and selecting "Diagnose."

The diagnostic runs and asks me if I would like to turn on my wireless capabilities, I click the "Apply Fix" button and it turns on my Adapter.

Here's the Detection Details:

Preferred Solution: Wireless capability keeps turning off

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wireless capability keeps turning off

Check your windows settings and any software specific settings if there is a control panel other than the windows one for controlling the card. With my laptop the wifi always disconnects after a certain amount of time idle to save battery. Its not really uncommon.

Good evening,

My laptop wifi keeps going off, everytime I start the computer or wake it up from standby.

It's the same problem as mentionned in this post:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1035200-laptops-wireless-capability-keeps-turning.html
... but that post did not include a solution.

The hardware switch is on, which turns the bluetooth on but not the wifi.
The only way to get the wifi back is to run the networking troubleshooter. After a while, the troubleshooter says "Turn on wireless capability", I click the button and I get the wifi back .... until the next time my computer goes to sleep or is switched off.

Thanks for your support,
YAG88

Hello. I have a Toshiba A200 with Windows Vista. For some unknown reason today, I have no wireless connection. The button on the front is switched on. Hitting the function key and F8 does nothing. When I tried Windows X, the Windows Mobility Centre menu is greyed out for 'Turn Wireless On' Any ideas?

I'm running Windows 7 on my ASUS laptop. All the sudden a couple days ago, my wireless capability started turning off every time I shut down the computer or was idle for an extended period of time. Does anyone know the cause and/or solution to this?

Answer:wireless capability keeps turning off

Hello whitelighter1972 and Welcome to TSG!

This seems to be an issue with Asus systems. Try uninstalling the Wireless Console 3 Utility and see if the issue is resolved. If you want to reinstall it, you can download it here. ASUS Wireless Switch (Wireless Console3) Utility Just select your OS. But if you do reinstall, the problem will most likely return.

hi,

Im having a problem with my laptops wireless capability; it worked fine, until i tried a hardwried connection (i went over to this center and tried one and it didn't work, so i unplugged it).

Now, I can't connect to any wireless networks unless i do the windows network troubleshooter, which it tells me my laptops wireless capability is turned off; I then have to click on the option to turn wireless capability back on..

I have tried playing in change adapter settings in Network Connections, but nothing is working.. I have tried disabling the LAC and wireless adapter but nothing is working..

I also notice under Local Area Connection that is says "Network cable unplugged". Also in one of the tables of the windows network troubleshooter it shows Network cable unplugged and wireless capability is turned off.. Is my laptop trying to find the hardwire connection all the time so it turns off wireless? How can i fix this :3

Answer:laptops wireless capability keeps turning off..

I also notice under Local Area Connection that is says "Network cable unplugged".Click to expand...

That's normal and accurate unless you have a cable plugged in. If you do have a cable plugged in probably the NIC or cable is defective. Although it's possible that the ethernet was turned off to save power.

I assume that you are using an integrated wireless adapter. What kind of wireless switch do you have, and is it turned on? Do you also have a utility that can switch the wireless on or off? If so, is it saying "on"?

For some reason the wireless Capability is turned off sometimes, when I tried to search for wireless networks, it said that no networks are found even though I turned my wireless adapter on.  When diagosed, it says that my wireless capability is turned off.  This happens randomly and I don't know what is wrong, can somebody help?

Answer:T400 Wireless Capability Keeps Turning Off!

This happens to me, and its somewhat madding. Its a combo of not finding a wifi network to auto connect to and your power settings. If your in 'Energy Star' mode for instance, if it can't find a wireless network in X amount of time it just turns it off.  Try setting to 'Max Performance' and see if thats the issue.  I also recall seeing somewhere, can't recall off the top of my head if its Power mtg or wireless mtg that it can disable the wireless card to save power.  So far, I have never notice this happing when un AC power.  Although I don't often use wireless when on AC power.

hi, i'm using lenovo n500 with Vista as my OS, and i'm having problems with my wireless capability. At first, and for some reasons, my wireless capability automatically turns off. Then i just usually turn it back on from the Windows Network Diagnostics that says "Turn on wireless capability," and everything works normal afterwards.  Early this morning, however, my wireless capability went off, and i can't get it back on. I clicked "Turn on wireless capability" from Windows Network Diagnostics, but nothing happened. I pressed fn+f5, and still the light indicator is off. I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled my adapter yet; i need to know if there's anything else i can do before i resort to that, or if resorting to that will work. I'm using Broadcom 802.11g. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Answer:wireless capability is not turning on (lenovo n500)

Before uninstalling/reinstalling the wireless driver, go to control panel and then uninstall a program.  Look for a program that says 'lenovo readycomm' and unistall it.  Then, restart your system and check the wirless connectivity. If it still is not working, re-install the wireless driver - just uninstall the driver from device manager and restart the system.  Then double check the physical switch and make sure it is on, also toggle Fn+F5 and try to enable the wireless device if it is disabled.  Should work fine after that. Let me know what happens after that.

Long story short, my laptop's keyboard and mouse pad broke, they became disconnected from the motherboard, or whatever, through events I wish not to explain. Unfortunately, just before that happened, I had pressed Function (Fn) & F3, otherwise known as the Wireless Capabilities button, therefore turning it off. Not even nowing what might happen, it stayed like that. Now, after trying all that I could without doing the obvious and forking up money to have the keyboard fixed, I can't seem to turn it back on.Subsequently, through my searching, I found that you're able to turn it on a multitude of different ways, on the Aspire E1531, though...none of them work. I have attempted to Troubleshoot the adaptor in order for it to enable itself, but it will not do it. I somehow got to this one GUI that had, what seemed to be, a list of commonly used APIs or GUIs - I don't know, I'm not a computer person! - and it had the volume there and the Wifi adaptor with a grayed out button that said "Turn On Wireless"; talk about a tease. Is there any way for me to turn on my wireless through ANY means without having to pay just yet??? Also, I am using an external mouse and keyboard and have even attempted using the OSK in conjunction with the external, as it doesn't have an Fn key, though when I press the Fn key on the OSK and the F3 key, it opens a search folder with the cursor in the search bar, which I have found to be the basic F3 function. Even pressing Fn+F3 on the OSK itself didn't work... Read more

My apologies if someone had already asked similar question. Recently, I have been having wireless issues. The wireless connection would drop suddenly and the LED indicator for wireless switch on the front of the laptop would turn off (even though the wireless switch is still at the "on" position). When I try "diagnose and repair," the message tells me to "turn on wireless capability" by opening the switch that is already on the "on" position. Manually closing then opening the wireless switch does not help. Shutting down or restarting the computer also does not solve the problem. The only solution I have found so far is system restore to a previous time point when the computer is not confused about whether my wireless switch is on or off.  Is there a simply solution to this? I'd prefer not to restore my system every week or so. I have had this computer for about 7 months now, and this problem started happening mid-last month. I have removed ReadyComm previously awhile ago, long before the computer started giving me this problem.Message Edited by vltmichelle on 06-08-2009 09:54 PM

I seem to be having quite a bit of trouble with my asus laptop lately.
It started with a hotspot virus that kept redirecting my webpages, my virus scanner seems to have stopped that now but Im wondering was this what started it.

Iv also started using a lan cable. These are the only two new things I can think of.

SO when I use my wireless ( I alternate between this and lan) it keeps turning off and error comes up wireless capability is turned off so I have to turn it back on.

Then I noticed some of my programmes stopped working my photo editer ACDsee, windows media player, adobe reader and java. When I try and reinstall them nothing happens and there is all kind of errors, sometimes they just stop installing and I get no error. So I am now without all these programmes.

I just started an online course and couldnt run blackboard today due to an error about java but yet I cant download java.

I used system restore as far back as I could but it was only 3 days and it didnt work. Not sure what to do now as Im totally baffled

Having issues with the wireless capability on my laptop.
It's an Asus, but I don't have a book or anything stating specs. etc. We bought it off a friend.
What I have done.
Troubleshoot
Troubleshoot tells me that the laptop is unable to connect and I should try enabling wifi via a button or FN+F2 (F2 has the wifi icon) This doesn't change anything.
Went to Network and Sharing Centre and disabled the button that stops it connecting when the battery is low.

I am not completely inept when it comes to technical computer stuff, but I am no expert. Any help is appreciated.

Hello all,

I was hoping someone could offer advice on a pesky problem I have with my sons school laptop.

He has a relatively new Acer Travelmate P645-M SNID 44804139034 Win 764 bit which just last Monday could not connect to the school server or my modem at home, we can connect with a wire or a dongle but not with the inbuilt wireless adapter.

I have been to Acer site and downloaded the relevant drivers for the devices listed in Device manager and they are all updated. The list under Network adapters is.

Bluetoothx2
Intel Dual Broad band wireless n7260
Intel ethernet
Microsoft virtual mini port adapterx2

I'm assuming the Intel Broadband wireless adapter is the one that connects wirelessly to the internet.

So when the computer starts it looks for a connection but message says no connection available, so I trouble shoot and get "Turn on wireless capability" by using the function keys, so I do this eventhough the wireless lamp is indicating it's on, but no good.

This is a bit frustrating now as everything seems like it's working as it should be but something is blocking the wireless starting up or so it seems.

Now I've been onto Acer support but they only checked the device manager for warnings, but everything is good, their next suggestion is a factory reset, that's something I don't want to do at this stage especially mid school term.

I ran scannow and it fixed some errors but couldn't fix the all so maybe that could be a possibility, I have logs if they are... Read more

Fixed a DC Jack on an old Laptop that I haven't used for several months however I am having a problem with the Wireless. Troubleshoot is telling me that the Wireless Capability isn't turned off.

So I try and turn it on with FN+F9 and it doesn't work, I try to turn it on in the mobility center and the button is grayed out. Unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" also didn't work.

It's a Samsung RV510 Laptop running Windows 7.

Anyone have any ideas?

Possibly re-install the Atheros Wifi driver HERE from Samsung for your model

What security software do you have installed? please name all?
As multiple security softwares can affect internet LAN or Wifi access.

I have a IBM X31 thinkpad laptop which I have had the hard drive replaced. I have no OEM discs but have loaded Windows XP professional 2002 with SP3. After a great deal of time I have found drivers for all hardware from either the IBM (Lenovo) website or from driver detective with the exception of the network controller whiich I assume controls the wireless capabilities of the computer. I have tried to turn on/off the wireless capability using the f5 key to no avail. I'm unsure of what to do next.

Whats the type-model number of your laptop? Should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

Also try installing the IBM System Update utility: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html

Then run it and download any drivers and software it shows available for your laptop.

How do I tell if my desktop computer has wireless capability. Simple question but I have very little computer savvy.
Thanks-Chuck

Answer:Solved: wireless capability

Being a desktop you would most likely see an antenna coming out of the back of your computer.

You can also look in device manager. If you see only one device under Network Adapters, you most likely only have a wired connection.

If you have lost your wireless connection (Wi-Fi) and pressing the wireles button on your laptop doesn't fix it, do this: Download and install HP Connection Manager. After 8 hours of screwing with this I am so happy to report my Wi-Fi has been turned back on.  The antenna button did not work.  It only turned the Bluetooth on and off.  My wireless connection had a red X on it and the troubleshooter told me straight up that my "Wireless capability is turned off", but gave me no way to turn it back on.  In Windows Mobility Center the Wireless Network clearly showed it was off, but the button to turn it on was greyed out.  I updated the BIOS and wireles drivers, but that did nothing.  Then I downloaded and installed HP Connection Manager and rebooted.  I opened up HP CM and there was a button that showed the wireless was off.  I pushed it and the wireless turned on.  That easy.  Or rather, after hours and hours of pain, it turned on.  My next step would have been to go through the BIOS to see if somehow from there the Wi-Fi had been disabled, but I did not need to go that far. Good luck people.  Hopefully this thread will save you some time.

My HP laptop (Windows Vista, 4-5 five years old) has started to malfunction. I cannot connect to the router attached to my PC. The message tells me that the wireless capability is turned off. It says "Turn on wireless capability - this can be done by using as switch which can usually be found on side of computer or a function key combination." I can find no switch on my laptop, and don't know how which function key combination to press. Can anyone help me, please?

Answer:Wireless capability turned off

If there isn't an actual switch on the side/front of the Laptop to switch "wireless" On/Off, it is probably done with a combination of the Fn key and one of the F keys at the top of the keyboard. Look for one with a symbol in the same colour as the Fn key showing a radio icon - a mast with a series of concentric circle segments radiating from it.

Answer:Wireless capability on this computer is off

is there a wireless button on your computer? Most laptops have one by the power button.
If not look in the control panel.
Might also be a shortcut key using the fn key on the keyboard.

hi and thanks in advance

ive got a toshiba satellite p755-s5320 windows 7 home premium 64 bit. laptop has ran fine for a while and then out of nowhere i cant use my wifi anymore. i dont know if someone deleted some drivers or other software maybe while i was at work..no clue. normally i would boot up and connect to the internet automatically but now it says "not connected. no connections are available" btw all the other tech in the house is working and connecting fine. my xbox, phone, and other laptops all connect fine so i have internet i just cant connect to it from my toshiba. windows network diagnostics says the problem found is "Wireless capability is turned off". my fn keys i dont believe are working because they wont turn on my wifi switch and the hot key thats lit which is supposed to toggle my wifi switch isnt working either. if i touch the hotkey it just flashes slow one time but nothing happens. actually there for a little while when i would touch my wifi hotkey to try to turn on my wifi it would launch "windows media player" lol. i did a system restore and set my laptop to back before it messed up and that didnt fix it. im not very tech savy but i think somebody deleted some software maybe some drivers or somehow reassigned my keys on my keyboard and hot keys. but either way if im missing software i dont know how to check and i cant reinstall windows because i dont have the disc anymore. also i cant still connect to the internet... Hello,

I'm using Lenovo Z570 laptop. (Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter)

Problem:- Can't switch on wifi. The on/off switch is grayed out. While troubleshooting, it says, " wireless capability is turned off".

Solutions Tried:- Re-installed drivers provided by lenovo's website.
Re-installed drivers by windows update.
Reset settings in Bios to default values.
Yes the physical switch is on and the indicator light is glowing.
Fn+ F5 just toggles on/off airplane mode.
Disabled the option so that power management doesn't switches off wifi to save battery.
Other numerous solutions on internet.

The wifi worked flawlessly in windows 7. I even used it as a hotspot (via cmd method).

Someone save me..... Life without wifi seems Dull. :'(

Answer:Wireless capability is turned off

Try doing a full uninstall of the device and driver in Device manager. Then reboot and see if Windows 8 will find the device on its own. If it does, then you should be able to go into the desktop, open device manager and see the device listed as functioning.

I have and Asus N50Vseries.
My kids have been playing with my computer and I cannot connect to the internet.
If I go into Windows Network Diagnostics it says to turn on wireless capability.
It says via a switch at the side or front or a function key combination.
I cannot find were this is.
I think it is a function key.
F2 has a blue signal looking icon on it, but if I press FN + F2 it
does not seem to do anything.

Please Help Anyone?

Thanks, Becs

Answer:Wireless capability turned off ?

Welcome!

There is often a switch on the side, bottom, or front of the laptop that turns the card on or off.

Also go into Device Manager, find your card, and make sure it is enabled from the right-click menu.

I feel rather stupid asking this, but... what part do I need to purchase to get a Desktop on wireless internet?

I've got two desktops to set up in a house with AT&T wireless internet (via DSL). One of them will be hooked to the ethernet cable going into the wall, but I want the other one on WiFi (at least some of the time).

I looked into what part to buy for PCI or whatever, and they all seem to stick out the back of the computer and have antennas. That doesn't make sense to me since laptops all seem to manage WiFi just fine without bits sticking out these days.

So what's a good fully internal one? Or do laptops all have clever ways to integrate the antenna (I think they do)? Would I be better off getting a MoBo that can do wireless stuff? I think those exist.

Hm, guess I should also try to figure out how to get Ethernet cables to more than one room of the house. But really I want the Desktop WiFi more.

Answer:Desktop Wireless Capability

The chassis on a laptop is typically plastic or magnesium, so it has minimal interference with the WiFi signal. A desktop chassis is usually metal, so an internal antenna is going to have a very tough time getting a good connection.

I can't use wifi anymore for some reason. . . it pretty much happened over night, literally. When I open up access connections the Wifi selection is grayed out, so i cant click it. When I open up my Device Manager and click on Network adapters theres only the driver for my ethernet cable. So, I decided to do some little diagnostic test and when i tested for Drivers, it said "Driver version does not support Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software version 13.0.0.0. So I'm guessing I have a too-new driver? and need to down-grade? I called Lenovo support and they wanted me to open up my laptop and get a number on my network adapter, call back, and they'll open up my case and bottom  line is they'll send me  a new one (hopefully for free). BUT before I did that I wanted to try everything that I could and I got that error when doing a diagnostic test. Soo, can anyone help me out and tell me if I should just downgrade my driver? and how to do so?  Thank you Lenovo community for your time in reading this. P.S: I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium upgraded from Vista. . . and bought from Lenovo with the laptop, on a T400 laptop

Hello, a few months ago my laptop started randomly turning off its capability, however last week it turned off completely. It occasionally turns but not for too long. The wifi button does nothing, no matter how much or how I press it, it stays orange. At the mobility center the function to turn on wifi is greyed out. I tried checking BIOS, everything is fine there, I tried checking WLAN AutoConfig at services.msc, everything is fine, and ofcourse I tried different drivers and stuff to no help. The interesting thing is that I had mini usb wireless adapter and it made wifi work, however I accidentally broke it and am unable to buy a new one at the moment.
P.S. I should also mention that I tried to lower the roaming sensitivity, make it that the laptop does not turn off the adapter on power saving mode, checked whether radio is enabled, troubleshoot the problem as admin, with no help. The driver is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter. I pretty much tried everything out that I can find but nothing helped, hopefully someone will be able to help me. The laptop is HP ProBook 4540s. If you need more info I can gladly provide it.

Ok on my Dell D530 Laptop I got home last night to find my laptop I use for work has no interner connection.

1. Checked my other laptop- It has a connection (not the Router or service its self)
2. Restarted Cable Modem and Router, just in case.
3. Re set the NIC adapter of the D530.
4. Windows Diag was no help.
5. Did everything I could think off.
6. Back-ed everything up, and re-imaged it.

With a fresh factory. It's still saying "wireless capability is turned off". There is no physical switch to "turn on or off"

I looked in "services" and re-started things I thought were help but nothing.

Anyone have any ideas that would help. Next move is calling Dell.

Thanks, Ryan

Fixed a laptop that hasn't been used since the DC jack broke in March.  Today I finally come around to soldering a new one on and to my surprise [never soldered before xDD] the laptop as booted and it's working.

However I cannot connect to the Internet.  After troubleshooting I am getting the message "Wireless Capabilities are turned off".  I tried using FN+9 to enable wireless but nothing happens.  Also when I go into the Mobility Center it won't let me turn it on as the drop down menu won't appear.

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening and/or how I can fix this problem?

The Laptop is a Samsung RV510.

Thanks.

Answer:Wireless Capability Problem

This happens because power management turned off wireless capability when not in use. You can change this setting:
Open Network Connections
Right-click on the wireless connection
Click Configure next to the wireless adapter
Click the Power Management tab
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
Like this:

Then Reboot.

Problem is, when I try to go to that area, it is greyed out, leaving me without the option of even resetting anything.

I have even reprogrammed my while computer and have lost everything in the process. Using the function keys do not help. It only switches off and on in airplane mode. I am having issues with my wireless on my Asus laptop with Windows 7. About half a month ago, I was trying to help a friend with his internet problems, and was going through the steps myself. I instructed him to disabled, then reenable the wireless adapter in the network and sharing center. I did so myself, and noticed my wireless did not work after that. I ran diagnostics for it, and it told me that my wireless switch is turned off, which I checked and it is turned on. I tried switching it off then on again, but it still didn't work. I then did a system restore to get it to work again (which it did). Then, this morning, I was having trouble connecting to the internet, so, thinking it wouldn't do it again, I disabled and reenabled the wireless adapter, and now its doing the same thing. I tried doing a system restore, but it comes up with an error about the memory and cancels it. I would like to fix the wireless problem without having to do a system restore anyway. Please help.
Thanks, GPolice

Answer:Wireless Capability is Turned Off

Answer:Turn in wireless capability without hot keys

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc right click the devmgmt icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager open up Network Adapters, do you see a wifi adapter listed there? If not, and it it not listed in the Bios, this computer may not have ever had a wifi adapter.
If it does, go to Start/Search and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. If the wifi adapter is listed here you can right click it and Enable it.

Hi,

I have an Satellite 1130 which seems to have wireless capability, but i'm not sure if it has a card installed.
Can anyone tell me how to tell, and offer advice on the type of card to purchase if it has not?

I have a wireless switch on the left hand side, but switching from off to on makes no difference, also have a Fn (F8) wireless icon which again seems to make no difference.
I have downloaded the user guide which shows the underside having a compartment for a wireless lan socket - what am i looking for in here??

Be gentle with me, and speak slowly!!

Thanks,
Mick

Answer:Does Satellite 1130 has a Wireless capability

Hi

The WLan on the Satellite 1130 is optional.
Some of the Satellite 1130 units were equipped with the internal minPCI WLan card and some of the notebooks were not equipped with a WLan card.

If you want to know if your notebook supports one then go to the device manager and check the ?Network Adapters? area.
There should be listed a LAN card and WLan card (if available).

Cheers

The wireless capability is always automatically turned off when I restart/shutdown my notebook. I'd like it to be turned on without pressing Fn+F12 everytime I turn on my notebook because I'm using external keyboard&mouse. The driver is broadcom wireless downloaded from HP, its date is January 31, 2016 This problem  won't occur on Windows 10, only Windows 7 has this problem.

Okay I know this is almost certainly impossible but I've been asked to find out about it so meh.

Is it or is it not possible to get some device that can plug into a wired router, say a Draytek Vigor 2600 , and add wireless capability?

of course if there isn't I can just say "not possible" *grins*

.....easy to add a WiFi access point to an exisitng wired LAN. It's just another RJ45 ethernet connection....get current with the security issues and you are good to go...
If you want to use a router as an access point, all you do is run a cable from the LAN port on the upstream router to a LAN port on the access point, disable DHCP on the access point and you are good to go.Click to expand...

Hi, guys...I have an "old" IBM Thinkpad X20 that I'm trying to get a Wireless connection for.  I currently have Qwest Internet with my regular PC, and their Modem comes with a wireless attachment.  The USB-plugin wireless connector does work...I tried it on another PC I own.  I don't believe there's anything to load (drivers, etc)...just plug the USB Device in and that's all it takes.  I thought that until I decided to try it on the Thinkpad.  It seems to know the device is hooked up...but there's no recognition that's it's a wireless connector.  I'm missing something...and I think it might be that I need an IBM ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN PCI Express Mini Card...or something like that?  Right now, the only thing on the laptop is a 3Com 10/100 mini PCI Ethernet Adapter. I'm dumb as a stump when it comes to laptops...any help you can throw my way would be appreciated!  And right now the OS is Windows 2000, but I'll probably try upgrading that at a later date... Thanks!!!!! Spaz23

Answer:Trying to upgrade Thinkpad X20 for wireless capability - HELP!

You very likely do need a driver for the USB-attached WiFi adapter because there wasn't much (any?) WiFi support in Win2k. If you don't have a drivers CD for this device then you could Google on the make/model of adapter and the keyword "driver." Also go to the manufacturer's website and look there. What's the make/model of your adapter? Your other option, to upgrade to WinXP, might solve this problem but will likely slow down system performance substantially because of RAM limitations.
