Technicolor screen, Popups, Error messages running programs, random programs starting

Question: Technicolor screen, Popups, Error messages running programs, random programs starting

I've been trying to fix my brother's computer for a while, but every Spy-bot and Ad-aware continuously find 60+ bad items and something has recently caused most programs to stop working completely that can be solved with a restart and crossed fingers. Recently a restart brought up a very colorful rendition of the screen that wasn't a good sign as I try to fix the computer. So I turn here. I'm pretty sure I got rid of the 'win antispyware 2005' malware he had running for the longest time. I had ZoneAlarm (deactivates the Windows default firewall) for a long time then had to uninstall it for Medal of Honor:Airbourne which required the windows firewall to be running (to add itself to the allow list). Then I got Jetico Personal Firewall and I've had Avast! On-Access scanner for the entire ordeal. I think that's about everything. Extra.txt is attached.

Edit: I tried the panda activescan. I downloaded the plug-in, but after 1.5 hours of running the scan it remained at 0%. If it's neccessary, I could run it overnight.

Preferred Solution: Technicolor screen, Popups, Error messages running programs, random programs starting

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Technicolor screen, Popups, Error messages running programs, random programs starting

Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!
All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

The fixes we are going to do may and may not help other problems you are having.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
Smitfraud by S!ri

Double clcik the smitfraud.exe
When promted
Press any key to continue.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with any others I have asked for in your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. When prompted by allow it to run

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
If you do and smitfraud isn't present it will have undesirable effects
In your next reply I would like to see: A new HJT log
The Report from Vundofix
The report from smitfraud.

Hello, i've found this site while searching for information on similar problems.

I had this nasty infection in my computer, so i ran Avast!,Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware. These programs found and deleted smitfraud-c, Win.32agent, Trojan.fakealert, trojan.alert, malware.trace, trojan.ircbot, etc.

Everything seemed fine, until I opened a Firefox window, that showed me thie error mesage:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, file...

As well as when i open an .dwg drawing with AutoCAD:

C:\...\AutoCAD 2008\acad.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, file...

I have tried re-instaling Firefox, Java and Autocad, but the messages are still showing.

Am I still infected?, what can I do about it?

Answer:error messages while running programs

Hello, do these apps work and you only get these errors? Please post your MBAM log.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system. Also runFakeAlert Stinger.

Hey this is my first post,

I've read most of the instructions on posting and hope I've done it right. This is the second computer I've built in about a week that is having this same BSOD. I am new to debugging so I'd like to know if I've come to the proper conclusion. I'm using WinDbg x64 to read the files. The last system I replaced the processor and it worked fine.

This computer reboots randomly, usually within the first 3 minutes of operation. No programs running.

I've included the information from using the DM LOG collector as instructed.

Answer:BSOD Random, after Win7 boot. No programs running. Error Bugchk 0x124

It appears your CPU on this PC is causing issues.

Please follow these instructions and run Prime95 for around 2 hours.

Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

If the PC blue screens when running Prime95 then please run it in Safe mode, if it still fails I'm afraid a new CPU will be the only option.

I have posted a topic in the hijack this forum here: browsed around and thought i found out what was wrong with my log, it was the ntos.exe trojan thing where some of the people here have had problems with so i removed it following the same steps they have.So now ive ran all the necessary programs (SDFix etc) and finally got rid of all the viruses....hijack this doesnt show the ntos log anymore either. The thing is now when i run programs like adaware and superantispyware, i automatically get the blue screen error (i can post the exact 0x000000 wutever if you want me to). However, when i run them in safemode, i dont and they do not detect any viruses (yay?)Now my internet is very slow after fixing the viruses and i was wondering if i have REALLY removed all the little bugs and maybe i shouldnt have tried to remove those virus myself. Any help will be appreciated and tell me if i should post my new HJT log. Thanks

Answer:Blue Screen Error When Running Antivirus Programs

Have you been trained in the use of HijackThis? You should never attempt to fix anything using HijackThis, until someone who is experienced at reading the log outputs, has a chance to review it.Fixing the wrong items can make your computer unbootable.Spaces, extra characters, spelling, file location, plus numerous other subtle changes, all make the difference between a "good", or "bad", file entry. HijackThis is an ennumerator, not a removal tool. It lists what is found in certain areas of the registry, or system files, in an easily accessible manner, so that those familiar with the use and reading of HijackThis logs, and windows programs, can determine what is infecting the machine, and how to remove it.It will indeed remove the entries listed, but that does not cure the underlying problem. The problem must be properly identified first, and cured, prior to removing the entries with HJT.Otherwise, you leave the infection, and remove the keys which are needed to identify and remove it.Removing entries in HJT before the problem is properly identified, and correct removal instructions posted, can make the problem undetectable to other detection and removal tools.Hijack this should only be used to clean up the entries left behind, after you have properly removed the offending program, file, trojan, worm, hijacker, etc. And this usually requires help.Once you've posted your log, you should not have made any changes to your system, as that could change the re... So the other day I was looking through some pretty questionable websites looking for a certain download, and surprise, like an idiot I downloaded and ran something which proceeded to run things in command prompt, and then vanished. So now, a couple games I play lag, I'm noticing weird processes running, and random IE windows are opening up, sometimes multiple ones making an attempt to flood. So I've run Spybot and HijackThis and even used killbox, but to no avail. So, here is the HijackThis log, and i'm hoping someone can save me from my idiocy, please.

Hi all,

I KNOW I should remember how to do this, but..................

I have a program for my digital camera software and one for the mp3 player software that start when I boot up. The icons remain on my toolbar and I have to exit or disable them manually everytime to stop them running in the background.

How do I turn them off lease?

Thanks, in advance, for the advice I know I will receive - after you all go "*sigh* - you dill Teejay!".

Answer:Programs starting up and running in background

Have you gone to the start menu>all programs> start up and removed them?

Or the programs themselves might have a "run on start up" that you might have to turn off in the options

I'm not sure if this is where this thread belongs, seeing as I'm not yet sure what I can blame my problem on.

I have a Dell Inspiron 600M notebook with an Intel Pentium M 2.00GHz processor and 1.00GB of RAM running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 installed.

My problem is as follows: After startup, my computer responds just as it should. However, if I should run a program of any decent size (most commonly iTunes 8.1, Internet Explorer 8.0, Firefox 3.0, and any video games), the computer seems to slow down. The mouse animation jumps as I move it around the screen, scrolling takes minutes to respond, and single- and double-click response times become excrutiatingly long. Closing the program will free my computer from the majority of this heavy lag (the mouse still skips and the windows Start menu is barely responsive), but leaves the computer incapable of handling any other programs (this would include the previously mentioned programs as well as all of the Microsoft Office (2002) programs and anything else I might try to run/open/access. Restarting is the only solution I've found thus far, but that brings me back to the beginning of my problem all over again.

Also, I have a Dell docking station (Model #PR01X) which connects 2 external hard drives (160GB & 250GB), my printer, and my monitor. When my laptop is docked, the problem progresses at what seems to be an accelerated rate.

Computer history: I bought my laptop in July of 2005. Since the... Read more

I just got a new laptop and I don't know much about how it works, whenever i turn it on, several newly installed programms are automatically activated. I tried looking for a solution online, and I saw "install AutoRuns" a few times. Now I took a closer look at the page, and it said AutoRuns is for advanced users. Pretty noticable, I'm not. So how do I turn off the automatically starting thing?

Answer:Stop running programs automatically when starting pc

Welcome to the forums.

The easiest way to disable startup programs is already part of Windows. Go to Desktop. Right click the mouse on the Taskbar. Click Task Manager. Click the Startup Tab. Any program you do not want starting with Windows right click it and click Disable in the menu.

Foolishly I was careless the other day when trying to watch some movies online, and in my frustration to find something to watch, I clicked somewhere I shouldn't have, clearly, and now my computer is very upset with me.

Here are my symptoms:

Can't run System Restore. Error message: "System Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore, contact your domain Administrator."

Can't run Task Manager, error message: "Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator."

I cannot start in Safe Mode. When I choose safe mode my computer just turns off and restarts on its own. Sometimes on restart it wants to do a disk check.

I can't run malware bytes, it just searches forever for itself and if I choose 'browse' and find (what I think is) the right file, it just doesn't do anything, won't open. I tried changing the name of the file as someone suggested to me but it didn't seem to do any good. I tried to reinstall Malware bytes but now it just says "Unable to execute file: C:\Program Files\1\mbam.exe CreateProcess failed; code 2. The system cannot find the file specified."

When browsing I get a ton of popups. Some from the browser, some from windows. For example, windows start bar popup: "Click here to protect your computer from spyware. Your computer is infected!" Browser popups: "The Art Institute of San Francisco." "Stopzilla" "Download Registry Defender - Win... Read more

I can't figure out how to edit my post to add new info...but I wanted to add a few more things in hopes that it would help someone determine what is wrong with my computer.

For one, on startup now every time it shows me this message: ""Worm.Win.32 Netsky detected on your machine. This virus is distributed via the internet through email and active-x objects. This worm has it's own SMTP engine which means it gathers e-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself. In worse cases this worm can allow attackers to access your computer."

Also, my background image now says, "Your System is Infected!" in big red letters.

As of this morning a new antivirus program seems to have downloaded itself onto my desktop. It is called "AntiVirus Plus"

And everytime I open mozilla or IE it crashes. Until I have decent advice I'm leaving the computer powered off since I cannot open in safe mode.

Hi there,

My XP Pro computer has been infected by some type of virus/spyware/malware...

I keep getting popups in Internet explorer (even though i use mozilla) pointing me to some type of software sites.

I also get random ad's in the background that play even when no ie, or mozilla window is open.

I cannot run or install spybot search and destroy it wont let me. I also cannot install hijack this, i click on the exe to install and nothing happens.

Any help? I really need this computer for school and it is running so much slower now that it is infected....

Please help...

I am running norton corporate edition, i also have ad-aware, and another program called spyware doctor.

While playing an online full-screen game, with no other active programs running, internet explorer invisibly opens and forces whatever else I was doing to minimize. On checking task manager, iexplorer.exe and another program titled "8Ok4qQGr.exe" are running. I searched the latter of the two and it's in the System32 folder. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has removed it several times, claiming it as a trojan, but it reappears in hours. Please assist, thank you.

About four days ago, "Windows Antivirus 2011" randomly appeared on my computer while I was working, and began running a scan. I knew it was fake, so I ran Malwarebytes, which recognized it and removed it. Ever since then, there's been three major problems:1) My computer has slowed down noticeably. 2) I can no longer open programs normally (by just double clicking on them). Either nothing happens, or I get an error message that says "Application not found." If I right click and "Run as administrator," though, the programs open fine (although slowly).3) While on the web, using Firefox, sometimes new Firefox sessions will randomly popup, at least five new windows at a time that I have to quickly close to prevent more from popping up (I've tried just letting them keep popping up, and it seems to go on indefinitely). These new sessions always have the same three tabs, with complete nonsense URLs such as:"http://www.xn--i-4fa.xn--1cam/%C2%A8%C3%B7_%C2%AF%C3%95%C2%BA%C3%81#%16?uV%C2%A7%C3%BC%C3%8B%C3%B7%06%C5%BD%0F%06N%C3%A6%1A%16H%0B+%14%E2%80%9A%1D%C3%B4%29G%C3%A2[%E2%80%BA%C3%BC%C3%93:oi%C3%86%C2%AC%E2%82%AC"In addition to these problems, today (the fourth day since that first fake antivirus appeared) upon startup my computer had to run some self repairing mechanism in order to get to my desktop, which took about 15 minutes. The same fake antivirus has actually come up another time since that first time four days ago, and similarly I... For about a week now I've been having audio ads have been randomly playing on my computer with no apparent application as the cause. I've found that most (not all) of these audio ads originate from a process called "b.exe". I have been also experiencing popups from IE while running firefox. I have downloaded and run a number of virus programs including Spyware Terminator, Spybot S&D, and Threatfire. What do I do?

Answer:Random audio ads and popups on computer, spyware programs will not detect.

I've been getting random errors when running certain programs. Yesterday, everything was working fine, and today when I started up the computer, I ran across many errors. I can't really think of a reason as to why they began.

Well first off, iTunes won't run anymore. Or rather, the process will begin, but it will not actually start up. I tried to re-install iTunes and it didn't work. So I tried a clean un-install and re-install. I wasn't able to completely un-install because apparently "bonjour" and "apple software updater" and other related programs were in use - even though no program in the processes list seemed to be using them. In fact in the applications list the only "program" open was the windows explorer used to see the list. I tried moving the folders to desktop, quickly restarting the computer, and then moving the folders to the recycling bin before all the programs could start up. Which worked, kind of. Then I re-installed iTunes and it still wouldn't run.

So then I thought it might be a virus (even though I doubted it because I just got this computer maybe two days ago and haven't used it for anything but playing a game off of a CD and downloading programs like iTunes or Windows Live). But microsoft security essentials was giving me problems so I downloaded Spybot Search & Destroy - only I had the same problem with Spybot that I did with iTunes. So then I tried malware bytes - which ran for a total of two seconds ... Read more

Hello all, firstly thank you for taking the time to read this. I logged off normally, then logged back on a day later to find a lot of connectivity issues to random programs. Skype, Chrome, and any website where I need to log in is having issues. When i click skype, it takes about 5 minutes to load, says my P/W is wrong, then freezes. Chrome says I'm out of sync and when it asks to me to re login, it's just blank. And all websites say my P/W is wrong after I type them and know they're right.
Some programs are working fine like, Steam, and Telegram. Everything not related to the internet runs smoothly like games.
I made a new administrative account and it works perfectly well but I don't know how to transfer my music from one file to the other. Needless to say all my friends and I are baffled why certain things run fine and others appear to be getting blocked when on my normal account. If anyone's heard of anything like this or if you need more info, please let me know. Thanks again. Also, for some reason every like 15 minutes my internet hiccups. I'm using comcast so I'm not shocked, but it's been happening rather more frequently than before.
I did a restore point to 1/22, still having an issue.

To make it short, I am unable to type with the keyboard due to physical disability and as a result, I cannot type in my user password in the log-on screen until someone presses a combination of Start+U for me, which activates a utility manager. This allows me to access the built-in onscreen keyboard so I can type with my mouse instead?

I was wondering if it?s possible to somehow make an edit to the registry so the onscreen keyboard alone or even the utility manager could load automatically every time I enter the log-on screen, either from logging off, switching users, turning on or restarting my computer, etc.

It?s not so much a problem as it is an annoyance because I like to be able to use my PC with as much independence as possible. Thanks.

Answer:Starting up programs in the log-on screen

I don't know of a way to start the virtual keyboard at login as it is a Windows program and won't start until after Windows has loaded. (If anyone else knows a way, please jump in.) I have come across this program from MountFocus that may answer your problem, but it's not free I'm afraid.

I posted the other day (didn't get any replies, maybe because I bumped an old similar topic, but no matter).

Since then my problem has progressed and changed. Connecting to the internet seems a moot issue at the moment. My computer keeps freezing, I managed to use Nero to make a backup however, which is a good thing, because now my computer won't let me open any programs! I just get error messages.

I just noticed last night that I could click a little thing and get info on the error messages that pop up everytime I try to open a program. They all have one thing in common. In the box where it says what files it is going to include in the error report it says:

I don't know what that means, but I tried to search it and I couldn't find it on my computer. Could I have lost it in a freeze/restart somehow? Would reinstalling WindowsXP fix that? Can I recover it maybe?

I am at a loss.

Thanks for any input or advice.

Alright guys this is a question for my girlfriend. She's having problems with her laptop.
Basics - Dell Inspiron 2560 laptop, runs Windows XP. Two years old. Never had any real problems before.

Okay, I told her to download and run the AdAware program for her laptop, because it had been running slow for her. She did, the program found over 1000 items. She deleted all of them, restarted the computer. And now her computer keeps giving her error messages.
-Windows Virtual Memory is too low
-several executible programs saying basically - they failed to initiate - such as for her digital camera program, something that shouldnt even be running when she starts up her computer. And several other similar programs that shouldnt have been affected by the AdAware.
-The application on DLL - Windows32/system32/systemappli.dll is not a valid windows image.
-Could not open Main: failed to initiate.

And several more.
She cant open any programs-get to her documents. Although the system DOES boot up to her desktop. She cant do anything but move the mouse once the error messages go away.
She tried system restore to a saved point BEFORE she did the AdAware (which by the way was the only new thing she downloaded/did to her computer)
But she's still having similar problems.
She was able to at least get to her documents ONCE. But then it said the computer couldnt find a network connection - she restarted and now it's doing the same error messages as before.
She called her mothe... Read more

Hi, I was referred here from the Windows 7 forum.
I hardly know where to begin. I am having so many problems. I run Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 on a Sony Vaio laptop. I will just list some of the things that are going on. My Vaio Care quit working. It will load and immediately I get the message "Vaio Care has experienced an error. Please restart application." This is unfortunate since my Windows Updates are handled with VC, although I think I am current on updates. Restarting the app and rebooting do nothing. I always get the same message.
If I right-click on my desktop to personalize, I get the message "Explorer.EXE No such interface supported." Right-clicking to screen resolution gets the same message, although right-clicking to all the other options works fine.
Some programs quit working. My e-Sword program won't run correctly. Many things seem to be missing. I get the message "Error encountered opening Bible file: c:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\kjv.bblx" and several other error messages saying it can't locate various functions of e-Sword. My Incredimail won't pull up at all. Since I couldn't pull up my usual email program, I tried to pull up Windows Live Mail, but neither would it pull up. I went to uninstall it and had the option to repair it and it works fine now. Secunia PSI won't load right. I get just a blank screen. I uninstalled and reinstalled it but still the same results. Hello.I had this nasty infection in my computer, so I ran my antivirus and other tools (Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware). I have already had some help in the security forums (first here, and then here). My computer is clean now. However, the error messages are still there. It seems to be a permissions issue, so I've been asked to open a new topic here.

Hello, Everybody. I have two questions.

I have Windows 10. How do I access which programs on my computer are activated at start up? I believe some of them may be slowing my computer down, and it's possible I don't need one or more of them. And, how do I determine which programs are necessary, besides the Windows and security ones? I may not use some of them knowingly, but my desktop might think they're important.

Secondly, When I get on line, I'm getting all these "unresponsive script" error messages with options to ignore or debug the script. These script problems are really paralyzing my desktop at times or causing "jerky" or "spastic" responses following a delay, after I hit a key or my mouse button. It happens primarily on Mozilla, occasionally in Windows and/or Google. How do I deal with that, also? Thanks, Steve

Hello, I would like some help reguarding a malaware I may have picked up somewhere. Let me start from the beggining.
About 3 days ago my PC kept asking me to update and it was very persistant, so after awhile, I let my PC run the update (It's verified publisher was Microsoft) ... After I had the "Ok" button , I went into one of my games that usually runs very smoothly and it started acting VERY slow (freezing every few seconds). I then went into task manager and saw a bunch of random programs running that I had not started. At first, I just closed all of the programs and that it was all good, but the programs (like Notepad, CTF loader, Windows Command Processer, Windows Presentation Foundation Host, etc.) still just kept re-opening themselves and not going away >_> So, I decided to run a few scans using AVG 2014 and Malawarebytes. The Malawarebytes didn't turn up anything, but the AVG scan picked up a few threats and removed them. After the AVG scan, the processes stopped starting up and I assumed that AVG had taken care of it. I was wrong >_>
Last night, all of the programs started opening again ( and I started the AVG scan again and let it run through the night. This morning, AVG said there were no threats detected but now media player had also started running in the background and was playing some kind of skincare advertisement. I'd love to get some help on this and how I can remove it

I get BSOD super randomly. Sometimes my computer will stay on for 24 hours and sometimes I get the BSOD after 20 minutes, It seems to occour more frequently when Im running multiple programs (IE, CHROME, or multiple webpages or tabs)

I did some basic stuff (don't laugh Im just a beginner) - I've ran Windows updates and I did the memory test from startup menu. I also checked the device manager for driver updates.

No new software or hardware.

possibly unrealated, Im seeing alot of "aww snap" messages when I'm online, but i will troubleshoot that when my computer is more reliable.

thank you so much for your help!

I first noticed this problem this morning. I start up my computer and immediately I start gettign application error messages like the following :

"The instruction at "ox7c809793" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program.

Once I click ok, I get a message that pops up stating that Windows will restart because some program DCOM or something is not working or has crashed..something like that.

My computer is running XP. The start menu and toolbar look different than usual..they look as if I was running on windows 98 or something.

When I go to try to open up firefox, itunes, internet explorer, google chrome..anything that connects me to the internet, it just doesn't open but it shows up in my task manager.

++ I keep getting this message about Trojan-Keylogger.WIN32.Fung & net-worm.win32.dipnet.d. I unfourtunately can't download any new programs because I can't access the internet.

Is there anyway that someone could tell me how to figure out what is causing this problem and hopefully how to get rid of it without having to completely wipe my entire computer and start all over again?

Thanks and any help will be greatly appreciated!

PS - I am using another computer right now to access the internet

Hi there, first time poster because first time I can't fix the problem.
Upon start-up I receive error messages:
"c:\progra~3\{71a19~1\171~1.0\sime.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error, Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the sodftware vendor for support.
I get this error a dozen times on startup and when opening any program.
Also when navigating Google Chrome new tabs and websites are opened when I click on anything.
As such I am messaging from an old notebook. I've been reading some other forums to try and solve the problem myself to no avail.
I have tried antimalwarebytes, CCleaner and RKill before using Tweaking Windows Repair but clearly I'm not sure what I'm doing and the problem persists.
Should I need to post reports to this forum is it safe to copy these files to a usb stick from the infected machine and move them to this notebook?
If anyone can help it would be massively appreciated.

Answer:Help? Error Messages When Opening Programs, Can't get rid of this Malware.

Hello and Welcome ..
You need more assistance with this infection. Other advanced tools are available but they cannot be used in this forum.
Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide starting at Step 6.
If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running FRST which will create two logs, copy and paste both logs with your new topic.
When you have done that, post your logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT Here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team only.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own.
If you cannot produce any of the required logs...start the new topic anyway.
Explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happened when you tried to create them then describe your problem. A member of the Malware Removal Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.

After posting these, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one, so any unwanted advice will not be posted.
The Malware Response Crew will be able to remove your infections and clean your system.
Thank You -

It began when I was browsing and out-of-the-blue a popup saying "HDD Failure - etc. etc. We recommend you restart your machine" came up, it looked legit so I checked out my PC to see some desktop items (not all) had dissappeared. Naturally I restarted machine and went on my normal user;

- my desktop was completely black and their were no icons, their were only a few programs listed in all programs aswell.

- A program called "Windows XP Fix" was running, it was obviously false software, I managed to delete its root (i think) from All Users / Application Data / 01032483.exe (or something)

- A program called browser+ was in my All Programs which it let me uninstall.

- If i go to a different user there's desktop icons and i can use my browser (still limited All Programs though) but if i click on a link it sends me to different web pages like or (lol?) it's really messed :/)

Stuff is attached I appreciate your help <3

I was having a problem after starting my computer and logging in I would encounter a black screen and the cursor with no programs loading. After going into safe mode and restarting I got it to work and download Emsisoft. I did a scan, quarantined the files and everything seemed to be good. After a couple hours, I got a popup that said there was an application error (I think NVIDIA related). A couple hours after that, I tried to open a new tab in Chrome and it wouldn't work so I tried to open Firefox and got the same application error. Then I tried to open a few other programs and they all got the same error. I restarted my computer, got the black screen and cursor again, rebooted in safe mode, rebooted again and that's where I am now. Please let me know how I can fix this. Here's my FRST file:

Hi,I see you have malwarebytes already installed, which should get rid of your problem, however I assume the malware prevents malwarebytes from running? In that case, Please try this version of malwarebytes: Click the link hereSave it on your desktop. You'll see it will have a random name, and will look similar like this: Doubleclick on it, so it will extract the files and will start Malwarebytes automatically. In case the installer (random named file) won't run either, rename it to EXPLORER.EXE and try again. When Malwarebytes opens, click the "Update" tab FIRST and select to check for updates in order to get the latest updates. In case Malwarebytes doesn't open, search for the folder mbam-installer on your desktop, open it and doubleclick the file winlogon.exe which will be present in there. This should launch Malwarebytes. Then perform a scan and let it remove what it found. Reboot afterwards (important). After reboot, post the malwarebytes log together with a new HijackThislog. In case you're having problems with above instructions, let me know.

I thought I had put really good protection programs on my computer such as: Hitman Pro, Hitman Pro Alert, CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, Webroot, & Secunia. I always did my updates, scans, etc... I used Win 8.1 on 1yr. old HP desktop, along with Chrome, Firefox. I thought I was doing alright; but I have got hit with something that I can't understand or fix for the first time in 15 yrs. And like going to the doctor, I am not even sure WHAT the computer has wrong! I just know that things are not working correctly. I am new, & not a expert or professional at this site or in the area of removal of computer troubles. Can you please help me to figure this out so that we can go back to enjoying our FV2, Ancestry, and photos etc...?

Hello all. I decided to come to these forums to seek some help with a very odd problem I started experiencing with my Windows 7 Ultimate PC. Let me first state that I am an IT professional by trade and have exhausted my knowledge of getting my install running smooth again.

Basically my problem is that after boot up I get to the Desktop fine. When I attempt to launch a program I get the waiting indicator and then nothing. I can not run chrome, Task Manager, open My computer, nothing. After some time my screen goes black, but I still can use my mouse cursor. After this the only option is to hold the power button and power down.

Up to this point I have done the following:

1. Attempted to run Windows Repair, but could not get that to load. Stated incorrect version of Windows even though I have the Windows 7 Ultimate disc.

2. Booted to Safe Mode a couple of time to try and remove any programs that were installed recently.

2. Thinking I had a virus/malware I used a couple of bootable CD tools that allowed me to scan for infections prior to getting into the O.S. They found nothing.

3. Used the Ultimate Boot CD to scan both the hard drive and memory for errors. Found nothing.
At this point I am hoping to tap into the knowledge of this forum to try and find a resolution. Let me say thank you in advance to anyone that can help.

Answer:Unable to launch programs after boot, no error messages

So today after turning on the computer I got this every time I click anything on Chrome:
Chrome.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetPrinterDriverDirectoryW could not be located in the dynamic links library WINSPOOL.drv

So then I tried opening Word to do some work. It suffers an error which it does not describe and will not open. This only started happening at the same time as the annoying error messages detailed above. On resetting the computer the problem did not go away and I noticed various similar errors to the one above but instead of Chrome it might say ATI something or other similar start up programs.
I did nothing to cause this and there are no viruses. I googled everywhere but cant find much. Please help

Hi, my computer keeps coming up with error messages about certain files not being a valid windows image when i start it up. a few examples are Amsample.dll and Amoures.dll. These are all in my system 32 file. Also certain things on my computer aren't working such as add/remove programs in the control panel and disk defragmentor. I dont know if this is related but the only program i can open in office is word and that sometimes shuts down for no reason.

I have AVG anti virus and anti spyware and have run full system scans with both.

Any ideas?

Answer:Error Messages On Startup And Add/remove Programs Not Working

First of all, could I ask which operating system you are using and under what service pack?

This looks like your system files have been altered in someway. Let's run the file checker:

Click Start>Run>type without the qoutes "sfc /scannow >hit OK.

A window should appear with the title "Windows File Protection". It will say "Please wait while Windows verifies that all protected Windows files are intact and in their original versions." Leave your computer alone while the check is happening.

If there are any problems that occur during the scanning process, please post back with the error message.

Hey, this is my first post here, so we'll see if I go about doing this correctly. Basically my computer went belly up on me. The system tray (or whatever the thing at the bottom right is called beside the clock) is now just a thick black line. I cannot do anything there as when I right click anywhere on it I just get the normal right clicking thing you get clicking anywhere along that bottom bar thing.
Anyone know how to fix this? If more info is required please ask and tell me how to obtain the information.

Answer:System tray blank, random programs opening and running in background.

is your "system tray" unlock?
put ur mouse cursor over the thick line. and if it shows a double arrow. click on it and draw it up.
unlock it if necessary. still u need to have more details in your problem.
hope it helps

Your reports continually give a driver as the cause, but it is just a scapgoat. Lets see if it really is a driver or something else. Take driver verifier
Driver Verifier
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the syst... Read more

I just got infected with something that does not even allow me to take the first steps mentioned in the sticky.

- Initially a fake malware protection program installed itself, and started producing results
- I eventually had to power down, and on reboot, the malware stopped me opening nearly all programs, including all browsers and Norton.
- Another reboot, and the screen display was knocked out, and I can only boot in safe mode - PC now seems to be effectively disabled

The past three days, it's happened about twice a day to me. Just at seemingly random times, my currently running programs stop working and attempting to open new programs just results in the program's icon being momentarily highlighted in the taskbar, and then it disappears, as if the program automatically closed itself. This even works for simple programs like Notepad or Paint. Any currently running programs usually crash or stop working. All of my tabs in Chrome will have the pages using Shockwave crash, and attempting to open any new tabs or navigate to new pages will just result in a white screen. The computer is fast and responsive on the desktop (ie, I can open and close the start menu and highlight programs on my desktop with a mouse rollover), and nothing on my computer is frozen, just not working.
This all happens just at one single moment when everything stops working right, and I have to manually shut down the computer, because going through Windows to shut down or log off does not result in anything. Upon startup, everything is back to normal. CTRL+ALT+DEL command results in a black screen with the cursor visible, but nothing happens.
I was recently infected with quite a bit of malware, but as far as I know, I got it all off. I don't know if this is was "malware" or just my computer being a bleep. What do you guys think?

Answer:Currently running programs stop working, and new programs won't start.

What malware did you find and remove?  What did you do to find and remove it?  You may not have gotten all of it.

So I went to bed last night and everything was ok on my pc. I rarely turn it off so left it on as usual. I have Comodo Firewall, AVG and AdAware running in the background which normally gives me a heads-up when something is trying to get in.

This morning when I got on my computer I noticed that I could not click on links within certain websites. I rebooted thinking that that would be the problem......but something more sinister was lurking around the corner.

After the reboot I noticed that comodo was no longer fact, none of my "normally running" protection was. Also, I can no longer get online. I tried running spybot, mbam, avg, adaware and superantispyware in safemode but couldn't get some of them to run at all.

mbam gives me a "vbAccelerator SGrid II runtime error '0' and the run-time error '440': Automation Error." error.

avg gives me a "Problem with Shortcut" The item 'avgui.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly." error

I tried to remove a program from the Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program but when I click on the "Uninstall a Program" link, it does nothing.

My "Help and Support" does nothing when I click on it either.

I tried the System Restore but once it opens I cannot click on anything to restore, all i have access to is the cancel button, I cannot even turn it on or off.

I also attempted... Read more

Answer:Programs not starting, can't remove programs, etc....

I figured out how to get everything back to normal.........and I feel like a complete idiot.

I forget sometimes that this is Windows 7 and not XP. All I had to do was to reboot with F8 (which I had done numerous times but failed to see) and then select "REPAIR COMPUTER"! Voila! Now everything is back to normal and I am running Mbam which should get rid of whatever caused this in the first place.

I have been having a problem that seems similar to a thread started on 1-05-09 by morallybankrupt, however when reading that thread there seemed to be no conclusion and I wanted to see if that is the solution I should try as well.

After using my computer for a period of time, text will begin to disappear throughout the website/program I am running. Error messages will begin to pop up, but I am unable to read them since the text is missing. I am then unable to open any other programs or the start menu and the text under desktop icons also disappears. I then must manually turn off my computer. The problems disappear after that but end up coming back after a period of time.

Attached in this post and the next one are the required scans for you.

Thank you so much for your help!

Answer:Disappearing text resulting in error messages and unable to open programs.

Hello, im new to these forums, but i have moderate experience with computers.

I have a problem with some programs (so far only 2) that, when i run them, parts of the program (when in full screen, and windowed) are off the screen so i cant access them.

This is best described by these 2 screenshots... (attached zip file)

how can i fix this?
One program is Videora Ipod Converter, which used to work fine, then got half of it cut out of the screen (no matter what i set the screen resolution to), and now works fine again for some reason. The other is for Halo (PC), a FPS game. Its a map editing tool, and some of the text at the bottom cant be viewed.
(this isnt a fault with the program, because i used to be able to see everything that the program had. its a problem with my computer, and i have no clue whats happening)

its not my screen resolution... as far as i know.. it does the same thing on each res.

Thanks for your help

So, I shut down my computer, and noticed it was taking abnormally long, so I push the quick-restart button on my PC. It restarts just fine, but stays on the boot screen for a bit long, and then proceeds to get "stuck" at the "Starting Windows" screen for about a minute. From there, Windows loads just fine, and I can access a majority of my usual programs (Firefox, avast!, etc.) without any errors. However, when I try to load very few programs (iTunes, Malwarebytes, etc.) they don't load at all, despite appearing in the Processes section of the Task Manager. Also, when I try to unpin a program from the taskbar, the program's icon remains but I can no longer "unpin" it from the taskbar.

These are all of the errors I've experienced, and here's what I've tried thus far:

System Restoring. Tried it twice, to before I installed a Windows Update and before I installed a graphics driver update. Neither changed anything.
Disabling all non-Microsoft startup services.
System File Checker (no errors found).
avast! full scan (no threats found).
Windows Repair thing (at startup) - didn't get past the loading bar
Any help whatsoever would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Answer:Stuck at "Starting Windows" for too long, and unable to load random programs

You should never use the reset/restart button on your case unless you need to. Otherwise this happens...

Hi. a while ago I used msconfig to remove some programs that automatically on startup but now I have noticed that close to all of my services and startup programs have stopped loading on startup even though they are all checked in the msconfig window. I have tried rebooting in diagnostic startup but I haven't been able to fix it. I used the admin tools to set some services to run automatically but it doesn't help Steam, Norton, and my other programs to run and many services revert to manual startup. I also cannot run any programs, the only ones that seem to work are norton scan and firefox. Wizards and the system restore tool won't open, I don't know what to do

Answer:Startup programs not running, programs not opening

Try and use Start up CPL to add the files back to start up

To use start-up CPL

Click Start
>Control panel
>>Double click on 'Start up'

When that is open go through the tabs and add the programs you want to load on start up

Hello everyone,Recently, I got a Lenovo yoga 14(with Nvidia Geforce 940m and intel(R) HD Graphics 5500) on windows 10. I have one problem with it which is the screen flickers on and off if I have software such as store, bing news, google chrome and microsoft word open on maximised screen. I've tried turning down the resolution, turning of panel self-refresh and updating the video drivers, but it didn't work. Also I've noticed that when the screen is flickering the mouse moves back to the centre of the screen. Instead of pushing the maximised button, if I drag the borders of the software window and make it full screen, it doesn't flicker at all. Some advice would be much appreaciated, Roger

When I try to run some programs (most usually games, or programs that install games) then a black screen appears and nothing more happens. I can't get out of it, even if I alt-tab, alt-f4, or Ctrl-Alt-Del.

I did have hardware acceleration set to none for some reason, but i've put that back up to full and it still doesn't make a difference.

I'm running on Windows 98.

I've run all of these games before with no problems, and thinking it would be something to do with my graphics card (NVIDIA TNT 2 Model 64) I got the drivers from NVIDIA's site, yet when I run the program, it says it can't detect any NVIDIA graphics cards.

Answer:Black screen crashing when running some programs

Are you still having this problem? If so, which version of DirectX are you running:

Go to Start | Run and type DXDIAG. In the first tab will be the version. Also, go to the Display tab, and see if all the tests work.

As for the games and programs, are they graphic intensive ones, like Paintshop or Call of Duty?

Plus, just in case its something conflicting, lets see a log, go to , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Answer:There is no full screen while running some programs or games.

There may be a setting in your video drivers to allow a lower resolution to stretch to fill the whole screen.

As a side note, I don't trust third-party apps to handle my drivers updates...not when they are simple to do yourself, to make sure they are installed properly.

I have been going through my collection of old DOS games and trying them on Windows ME and XP.Something strange seems to be going on with the Windows ME MSDOS Prompt. Programs keep telling me that EMS is not installed and that the game cannot run in the memory available. How do I turn on the EMS part of MSDOS Prompt? When I right-click on MSDOS Prompt and click Properties the Memory tab shows EMS with a blanked out section beneath it. ie. it is not saying Auto and a list of numbers like all the other sections.

The games I am having trouble with play fine on my brother's Windows ME computer.Presumably one of the files that EMS relies on is corrupted on my computer. Is there any way of uninstalling and then reinstalling MSDOS Prompt from the Windows ME cdrom?Or could I just copy the system files from my brother's computer onto mine to fix it? If so, which files would I need?

As of late, (as in the past month since I re-installed windows 7 ultimate x64) I have been receiving frequent BSOD's (sometimes multiple per day) mostly during gaming and other hardware intensive programs as well as random times on youtube. Now I've sort have tolerated them lately as I am constantly doing my best to try and get to the bottom of them with each new BSOD (I've ran multiple tests such as memtest86, chkdsk, scans with Malwarebytes, keeping all my drivers up to date, deleting known BSOD causing drivers) and I have still haven't found anything abnormal that could be causing the situation so that leads me to my final option before reinstalling windows again and I would like to ask for a bit of help on this one as I know there is some very knowledgeable people here on these forums.

Also, if this is any help as well, I initially was running Rogers Internet Protection towards the beginning of the BSOD's and I have switched to MSE instead but with no prevail as far as stopping the BSOD's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I have attached the dump files, etc.

Based upon experience your problem is due to hardware. Before that testing lets go with what the dmp reports suggest, drivers
Prior to the test, update your video card, since it was mentioned more then once in the many dmp files that you have submittel

Apologies in advance, I'm not tech savvy in the slightest.

I've had my computer for about a year now with no problems, running frequent virus scans, etc. However, a few days ago I've been having problems running programs such as Skype and League of Legends, and I've been getting this pop up: C:\windows\SYSTEM32\schannel.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor. error: 0xc000012f

At the top of these pop-ups, I'm being told that the program is a "Bad Image". For example: LoLClient: LoLClient.exe-Bad Image.
I've tried the sc scannow, however it says there are files that are corrupt. I tried the DISM Restore Health, and it is frozen at 20% every time. However, all other aspects of my computer work perfectly fine. This has been extremely frustrating as I have no other ways to talk to some people except for Skype, and I would very much like to have this problem fixed as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for any help.

Alright well to start this I don't know when it began. Maybe a couple days ago however am not sure exactly how it all occurred. So I am running into a issue with my laptop where it will run certain programs but not others and it is causing some rather large issues with things.

List of Programs that Work (A Very Short List):
Google Chrome
Windows Task Manager
Google Talk
Kaspersky Pure 3.0

Programs that Don't Work:
Windows Media Player
Media Player Classic
Gamestop Now
Apple QuickTime
Apple Itunes
Many others don't work. They crash without ever once showing any sign of launching.

This is a huge issue as I cannot watch any videos on my laptop at all currently and I need to be able to watch videos due to classes.

Steam launches, updates, then crashes when it goes to load the main program. QuickTime and WMP and MPC all show no sign of loading at all and just fail to launch.

I have attached a screen grab of my processes running. Do need some help as this is a HUGE annoyance. I cannot find my re-install disk that came with the laptop so some help would be AWESOME! I might have a restore point from a long time back.

If additional information is needed please say so.

I would also like to note that I did a full system scan. Didn't find anything in the files, system structure, registry or anything else computer was clean.

I am not computer illiterate and have no issues messing with my system registry if needed to remove something that is running.

Answer:Programs Crash Upon Running (Not all Programs) Need Help.

One thing for sure, in that picture you have too many instances of Google Chrome running, may be impacting resources available. If Chrome seemed to be actually closed when you did the screenshot it could mean Chrome isn't removing itself from RAM when it is closed.

Hi all! I'm facing this issue that is really annoying since I can't find out what is the cause.
It started about one week ago, I notices some programs were not starting at windows start (ex: Coretemp, Malwarebytes).
Moreover, the pc always got stuck on the reboot or shutdown screen, saying the system is restarting /shutting down, with the animated icon rotating but without actually rebooting or shutting down.
Looking on the services list, I've noticed that many services are stuck on starting or terminating, without the ability to terminate or restart them.
I then proceeded to format. Things were working good then, today, this problem emerged again. Malwarebytes anti malware service is stuck on starting, other services are stuck on terminating. I'm attaching a screen.
(it's in Italian, "avvio in corso" means it's starting, "arresto in corso" means it is terminating).

After 30 minutes they're still stuck.
Programs such as Coretemp (not service) won't even start.
I really don't know what could be causing all this. Can you help me please?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
AMD Athlon II X3 455 @3.3ghz (Stock)
4gb DDR3 1333mhz
Biostar A780L3L mobo
AMD Radeon HD 6670 GDDR5 1gb
3 80gb Seagate hard drives

I did have 8gb of ram (two 4gb sticks)which at first I thought there was a problem with the memory, so I ran Memtest86 and found out that one stick had lots of errors so I've sent that stick off to be replaced, however the BSoD's still continue. I've tried a fresh install of Windows 7 which I encountered a BSoD during the install. I did manage to install a fresh copy of Windows on the hard drive though.

After installing, the BSoD's still continued, I went into the bios and underclocked the CPU from 3.3ghz to 3.0ghz because I thought that maybe the motherboard was under some kind of stress or couldn't handle the CPU at this clock speed. This still didn't help as the BSoD's continued. I thought it might be something to do with the onboard Realtek network chip as it crashed a good few times using any internet browser. I've tried disabling the onboard network chip and using an addon wireless PCI card but this didn't seem to solve anything either.

The system seems to work fine for a while if I'm not running many programs but eventually blue screens. If someone cou... Read more

Topic says it all, CF thought I had AVG and Norton running. I used to have those two, but thought I had deleted them. Was CF wrong, or are there pieces of these 2 programs floating around, that have evaded deletion? If so, how do I remove them. TIA/.

Consistently happens when running Hold Em Manager 2 + Pokerstars. Without using those two programs it appears to never crash and I can leave it running constantly. But I need those two programs for my life!!! They are not graphical games but HM2 can be very processor intensive.

It often happens when I'm listening to music / watching a video + running those programs / move a window. I updated my graphics card drivers and got a new error message, in win32k.sys with stop x000D. I already did checkdisk, memory checks, etc, registry clean etc etc.

Maybe I dislodged or damaged the hardware when I moved? Maybe my parts are breaking down? I will take it for repairs but I want to identify the problem first so I can avoid wasting money!! (or maybe fix it myself , Pasta willing).

Attached are my crash reports from SF diagnostic tool. I also enabled minidump logging so will post that ASAP if it isn't included.

Answer:BSOD: stop error while running specific programs, I moved recently?

Should note it also crashed once running through the Windows Experience Index, although I managed to get through that fine after updating the graphics card drivers, I still ran into the crash again while running Hold Em Manager 2 + Pokerstars + iTunes (and other music/video players similar results).

Sometimes when it's crashed it will re-crash on startup, but usually startup is fine.

I'm getting this error message on 90% of programs I try to open. But if I keep trying it will eventually open. It doesn't happen on chrome/firefox, thankfully.

Another problem that I believe is connected to it is that I can't open a browse window. On photobucket for example I'll click "browse" and it won't open. But if I restart the browser a few times it will eventually work, just like the problem above. I had some sort of worm on my computer earlier this month. I removed it and since then ran multiple more scans (malware anti-bytes) and nothing new comes up.

Any help will be appreciated. I know this will be hard to diagnosis, but maybe the problem with the browse window might help narrow it down? It's the first time I've ever heard of that problem occurring.

Answer:"encountered a problem and needs to close" error messages, Can't open programs

Please avoid using IE as it only works if you purchase it and that too if its under warranty, else it might throw some or the other errors. Instead, you can try Google Chrome which never give you this sort of problem.

I have a Dell XPS 8300 64 bit Windows 7
My HDD recently failed, so I ordered a new one and did a full restore off of my NTI backup drive. I started the computer up with both HHD's hooked up, so that I could transfer whatever filed hadn't backed up from the old to the new. I then discovered that because I did so, the old HDD was still labeled C and the new was now labeled D. This caused the blue screen of "this copy of windows is not genuine" issue when only the new HDD was hooked up.
I researched for days. If both HDD's were hooked up, the computer would boot from the old one, even if I selected the new one from the boot menu.
I downloaded Paragon HFS and installed that onto a flash drive. I booted from the flash drive and selected boot correcter. I switched the drive letters of the two HDD's and ran the other boot correctors as well. I shutdown and removed the old HDD and started up.
Seemingly I was able to boot off the new HDD, but now explorer.exe was not starting. It was just a black screen after logon. So I ctrl+alt+delete to bring up talk manager and ran explorer.exe and there it was. The other issue is that NONE of the standard startup programs are starting. My computer is essentially starting as if it is in safe mode. Just the bare minimum.
I put in my windows reinstallation disk and booted from it and ran the repair and it did its thing. Nothing changed.
I go into msconfig and all the normal programs that I had before are on ... Read more

I have been having this problem for the last, 2 weeks or so, were i will be browsing the internet and i will get a random screen popup, it is easy to close out but quite annoying. I also get random messages saying "YOU ARE INFECTED DOWNLOAD THIS NOW" i have not DL'd anything from one of these messages because i know it is most likely a virus in itself. I'm running AVG free. I have scanned my computer with AdAware, and AVG and it has not yet picked up the virus.
Here is a log:
