The entire system does not work properly.

Question: The entire system does not work properly.

First of all I would like to take a second to apologize for probably creating yet another topic considering the same matter. However I really do suck when it comes to any technological matters so I was simply unable to find/search efficiently for a solution.
Namely:
My operating system (which is Windows 7) has been gradually decreasing it's efficiency over these last months.
It's come to this moment where 90% of programs don't work properly without me knowing what's going on.
System itself started to create folders like "asdjbi82egbjqhvsd1v18127teyashbd" (randomized letters and numbers with no sense whatsoever), that despite the fact I've got administrator privileges, forbids me from taking any action.
I can't do much right now. Games don't work (I can install something, but every time I open a patch or the game itself it crashes into "program has stopped working". I've got a thing called a back-up recovery system, but even though I do it, nothing really changes. The entire memory is being literally cleansed and yet after I install anything it happens once again from the very start.

Is there anything I can do or am I being forced to contact professional technicians and pay tons of money (which I don't really have) to try and save it.

I thank every single one of you from the pretty much bottom of my heart for taking your life-time to read this out and maybe help me find a solution.

Best regards,
Bart McAllister.

Preferred Solution: The entire system does not work properly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday I tried to start my computer like I do any other day, but today when I started it, I couldn't open start (nor use windows key to do so) search bar didn't work only some of the icons worked. There is also some blank spaces where it seems there used to be icons oh and did I mention that the whole taskbar freezes after 5 minutes. Task manager doesn't work if I right-click on the desktop and press Personalize/Display settings they give me an error message (ms-settings:personalization_background

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.
Same thing for Display settings except for the title which is: ms-settings:display). Settings refuses to open, but task manager just give me the Not responding message for all eternity. If somebody knows what to do help will be greatly appreciated! :)

After a painful and long process of cleaning my pc of spyware.
everytime a reboot winxppro. i got the following Security Alert Message from NSW 2003.

"Some symantec product setting has been changed by an unauthorized program. This can indicate that an attacker or avirus is attempting to disable your protection.
To avoid problems setting will be reverted to a previous configuration and your system will be started"

I scanned my system and nothing shows up as a virus
I don't know what's wrong. I uninstalled and re-installed NSW2003 and I am getting the same message.

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Apps not starting properly, sys. recov. doesn't work, can't shut down properly, etc..

no replies yet?

anyway, just stopped by to say that when shutting down, it takes forever to get to the "Saving your settings..." screen, and that's where I decided that it stops and nothing else after that.
Defragged my C drive, still no results besides the computer feeling a bit smoother-running o_o

Hi A good choice would be to look at Macrium Reflect and see if it suits. As to removing data, that is upto you as to the level you wish to goto.

when I want to doa back up using Xp pro it says I need nearly three days to do it and god knows how many floppys, I gave up after using 15 floppys and it still said that over two more days were neccessary to complete the task, surely there must be a quicker way to back up your system, I just tried to back up my excel and pictures and some letters on word but even that was going to take over 20 hours and god knows how many flopys for that too, how do other people back up their systems in case of complete system failure?

Answer:Backup entire system

Write the back-up image to cd with acronis or cd/dvd with norton ghost.

well as u can already see ive created three threads so far no im not spaming they all deal with differ subjects. well as you all know my predicament, if you dont just read the thread titled, help my computer wont start. should i just upgrade the motherboard and cpu since im gonna be spending money anywas???????? ive already spent 143 dollars and try to fix the problem and i still cant get no where my comp is at best buy getting diagnosed.

Answer:should i just upgrade my entire system??

ooooh never take anything to best buy...getting 'diagnosed' means they charged you $50 to eat a sandwhich while staring at your computer. Best buy will charge you $30 just to put in RAM and call it something like 'Modular RAM Insertion Seating Service Fee'. I haven't read your other threads and you should just put your specs in the sig. Would help us know what you got a little more. Or go to that other thread and copy in your specs here or somethin.

First, my schemes are gone, Windows Movie Maker won't start with the saying "Unspecified Error", settings won't save (ex. IE starts up every time as if it's only first time starting up), Control Panel won't switch to classic mode, many DLLs are corrupted and Windows Media Player keeps restarting the configuration and refuses to open further. What do I do? I can't find my CD, but I have another computer with XP on it and it has the folder. The other one. The i386 with the setup files. What do I do?

My old computer, a five year old HP Vista, has recently had issues, and then issues on top of those.

First of all, the monitor won't even turn on -- I've tested it disconnected and it's fine, but connected, the signal isn't sending.

Secondly, the computer seems to be stuck. I ran the CHKDSK utility last night to see if there was anything wrong, and now due to its third problem, it won't -finish- that.

Thirdly, the system freezes randomly and without cause. The entire system requires a hard boot after suddenly freezing.

I've got an AMD 64 processor, a Seagate harddrive, a TSST Corp CD Drive, an nVidia 7300LE graphics card, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM.

I know it -cannot- be: Overheating, viruses, spyware
I suspect it -may- be: Magnetic interference corrupted the system, age has destroyed it

I have: Run scans with Avast! and Spybot, run CCleaner a few times, defragged, restored to factory condition.

Answer:Entire System is dead(?)

From another computer.

Downloading UBCD which is in my signature.Burn the ISO Image to a blank CD using Imgburn (How to burn a ISO Image using Imgburn) burn at lowest speed. With the newly burned cd boot with the cd from your computer go to HDD>Diagnostics>The make and model of your HDD perform a extended and long test. Also
Download Ubuntu Live CD ISO image and burn the ISO image to a cd using Imgburn (how to burn an ISO image using Imgburn). With the newly burned cd boot with it then select "Try Ubuntu" not "Install Ubuntu" access the Windows partition or what ever partition or hdd you wish to backup files from by going to "Places". Backup the files to DVD, an external hard drive or thumb drive(s).
Question about the monitor. When you turn on your system does any BIOS post, or system name logo screen appear?

It's been about three weeks now that I haven't been able to use any media programs. It started with Winamp (a popular media player/manager), then I had the problem with Radio365 (a program for registered users at Live365.com an internet radio website), and now I'm even having it with Windows Media Player.

The problem is this...
I'll start up any of these programs and begin a playlist, and a few seconds into playing the media, the entire system will freeze (can't use the keyboard, mouse, nothing) and I'll have to reboot the system manually.

I've had this computer now for about four or five months and have only recently discovered this problem. Before it was working great. I have various virus-scan and adware-scan programs that I update and use every day (almost never finding anything that needs to be deleted or cleaned) and I make sure to put the system in hibernate whenever I don't use it for long periods of time. I even opened up the case and cleaned out a bunch of dust recently, hoping maybe it would speed up the fan...and I still have this problem. I have run out of ideas and I am praying that someone reading this can help me fix it. Save my computer please!

The title pretty much says it all. I'm honestly at the end of my rope. Device manager replies all is well, yet sound stopped working overnight.

It isn't muted,I'm not that oblivious.

I own Advanced System Care Pro ( and consequently, Driver Booster ) so I have already all of my drivers up to date, as well as any other problems I might have had.

Used a bunch of other scanners to figure out the problem to no avail. Plugging some headphones in also doesn't cut it, so it made me think that perhaps the hardware was actually fine and some software conflict was the cause of the problem. I have no freaking clue anymore, should I just get mad and yell at my computer for an hour or so to relieve stress now??

Answer:Laptop audio refuses to work, all devices work properly, sound isn't muted. Help?

First we need to know the EXACT make and model number of the laptop in question. Secondly the only place you should be looking for drivers for you laptop is the laptop manufacturers support website. Driver scanners really are not helpful.

Spilled about 1l of water on my entire laptop...
I wiped water from it, and turned it on. The only parts that don't work: Mouse, Keyboard.
What should I do?
P.S: In the BIOS the keyboard works(and other stuff before the OS actually loads)

Answer:Spilled water on entire laptop, mouse and keyboard dont work.

First and foremost ...... are you SURE everything is dry inside? I spilled about a half glass of water on mine last winter and it was a couple of hours before it was dry enough for me to even try it. In my case I was lucky as everything was fine. Have you tried a system restore to a point before this happened? (I know I know... but simple things first.) An sfc/scannow will check for corrupted/bad system files and possibly repair them, have you tried that? Heres a link to a tutorial on how to do that : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi,

My Sat Pro 6100 has just been away for the usual motherboard and power board replacement with Toshiba, but now I have a strange keyboard problem.

When I turn it on, all the keys work. After a few minutes, '3' doesn't work, then 'r' fails, then '5','7','8','9','0' stop working. At this stage I can feel something getting very hot under the middle of the keyboard. A reboot and no keys work. Another reboot with an external PS2 keyboard, and the internal keyboard is still faulty (some keys work, others don't) but the external one works correctly.

Now if the pc didn't get so hot under the middle of the internal keyboard, then I would conclude that the keyboard was faulty, but for it to fail slowly and sequentially like this, and it fails the same way every day (Since the Toshiba rebuild!).

Maybe, internal keyboard controller overheating?
Does anyone know what this might be? :-(

Cheers,
Homer

Answer:Keyboard on Sat Pro 6100 doesn't work properly after remedial work

Right under the keyboard of your pro 6100 is the VGA graphics controller (the keyboard cable plugs into the same card). It is normal that this part becomes warm during usage.

It's strange that your problem appears after a while and not right away.

It might be just an improper reseating of the keyboard cable (it's a thin layer like a photo film-negative) that easily pops out, but... it can be something more serious, too. (Especially since you had the upgrade done where hardware had to be changed)

I would consult the service center once again and ask for instructions how to deal with this. Don't ignore it (by using an external keyboard instead of the malfunctioning internal) as it might end up into something more serious soon...

I am having trouble running Diablo II on my new laptop.

I am running XP Pro with all the current updates and Serv. Packs.

Diablo Keeps freezing in the middle of games.

I am wondering if it is conflicting with some of my background processes i have running.

I shutdown all my startup programs including Norton and McAfee andthe Microsoft Anti SpyWare...so this pretty much leaves no programs running,

only the stupid background processes.

I tried terminating some of the processes in the background, but i ended up somehow turning off the sound...

this is pretty annoying, since i dont know what all these cryptic processes are running in the background.

I can screenshot my list of processes and post them if someone wants.

please let me know how i can fix this...or if anyone knows of a program i can run to give me an actual description of WHAT is running in the background, also please let me know.

thanks

So I've got a laptop running Vista home premium x64, and 4 out of 5 times i start Winamp, it shows only part of the player, and bit by bit freezes the whole system. Initially only Winamp is frozen, but if I make any attempt to close it or even do anything to it, it freezes up windows and stays that way until I give the laptop a hard reset. When it does work, it works like a charm, no issues at all. My desktop running Vista doesn't have this problem, although I don't know if its OS is as up-to-date as this one is.

I can't imagine this is a hardware issue, but just in case, here's what I'm running:

Hello.
I want to install a new Operating System (It's legal, don't worry. It's Linux.), but when I install it I know that I have 2 options:
1. Keep your old operating system
2. Delete your old operating system.
Now, I sort of want to do both.
I want to back up my entire old operating system on a cd. But, I have a problem.
The CD can only download so much. It has a mb limit of about 750. I really don't want to buy a new cd, but if that's the only choice, please recommend one for me. All help is appreciated.

Answer:Need help- I want to back up my entire Operating System on a CD

Welcome
A CD of any size is not the recommended medium to download your OS.
The way to go is to back up using Macrium Reflect on an external hard drive.
In lieu of that use a thumb drive (usb Drive)

Hi all,I am currently on a back-up PC until I can afford to get my own repaired. Specs as follows:OS - Windows XP SP32.2Ghz processor1GB RAMI have several problems but the two that are really causing me heartache are as follows:1) When I right click on a folder (to copy, move, delete etc) it can take 5 to 10 seconds for the options box to appear.2) In task manager my system resources are always running at 100% (97%-99% is on IE) and it can be difficult just surfing the web.I am not running anything I can think of that would slow the system that much as I only have the following running on the system and these are only used when required not all the time:ZoneAlarmAVG 8VolumeAnd thats it - I only have a max of 30 processes running in taskmanager and the total mem usage is only at about 10% of the 1GB I have.So does anybody have any idea why my system is running at max when nothing is happening? I have ran anti-virus, anti-adaware etc and found nothing and I simply can not explain it.I would be grateful for any advice anyone has. Many thanks - Andy

I cant play a game without every 5 seconds the thing just seems to "Burp" and everything goes crazy for a second or two. i end up lagging in video games and it throws off my shots terribly. When i play music its even more frequent and aggravating, and even when i use internet explorer it gags and farts, and i end up having to click some links multiple times or scrolling twice as much as i wanted to. When im disconnected fmro the internet however, it all seems to work fine.

i have no idea what could be causing this!

Answer:Entire system acts like it needs gas medication!

Viceroy,

How long has this been happening?
How often do you clean out temp files and system cache?

Have you checked your computer for adware/viruses etc?

Hello,

I'm running a Windows 7 pc, which has a 128GD SSD with the OS installed and two 2TB internal HDDs. I went to configure the HDDs just now and one of them is completely partitioned as System Reserved.

I read and watched some tutorial on creating a small partition on the SDD for the System Reserve and did so following a video guide following the following steps at the command prompt:

> bcdboot C:\Windows /s H:
>DISKPART
>select volume H
>active

Now I'm not sure if I even needed to do that.

What I want to do is get back that 2TB drive that's marked as System Reserved. How can I do that?

Attached is a snapshot of the current Disk Management setup.

Thanks,
John

Answer:entire 2TB drive set as System Reserved

I ended up shrinking the volume of the 2GB drive that was listed as System Reserved by all but 450mb and now I have the remainder of that HDD available.

I deleted the new partition I created on the SDD and expanded c: to use the entire SDD.

I guess I'm good now.

John

Hi there!

I'd like to backup my entire System or at least most of it onto a seperate Computer/NAS but as the size of what has to be transferred has gotten quite big in the meantime ( 4TB+ ) so I'm running into a problem concerning the time it takes to do this.

Let me get some facts about me:
Right now I consider myself a Noob when it comes to networking 2 PC's together mainly because I'm not working with it that much.
Other than that I can solve pretty much any other computer problem in the blink of an eye.

What I'm looking for:
- A system that serves as a backup for my entire current system which has about 4TB of storage housing - MANDATORY!
- A system that does the Copy/Move Process of the respective files fast - MANDATORY!
Waiting 11.65h to transfer 1 TB of files at ~25 MB/Sec over a GBit Network is an absolute no go.
If possible I'm looking for something that rivals the 150-200 MB/Sec from my internal RAID-0.
- A system that serves as a MediaServer for my Home Cinema System either directly connected to the TV or a PS3 - OPTIONAL

What I've tried so far:
I recently bought myself a QNAP TS-412 which transfers the files at speeds of ~25 MB/Sec not giving me a happy face.
Blame me for trusting the clerk at the shop where I bought it before reading through the specs.

What I could do:
Build a second PC from former HighEnd bits and pieces acting as a homemade NAS.
Question is will this give me the results that I demand or will it lack the same way as the NAS?

I really... Read more

You might want to check this tutorial on using Windows 7's Robocopy utility.

You'll get a fast file transfer with it, but its main drawback is that it copies folders, not individual files.

Per an AV scan yesterday, I am infected with 2 trojans. 1. A variant of Win32/OLMARIK.AYH trojan and 2. Win32/OLMARIK.TDL4

I have run the scans as requested, however, was unable to generate the GMER scan results (program locked up and was not responding). I'll provide the HiJack this scan results. I'll run another GMER scan overnight and will attampt to save it to my d-top since this scan takes so long to finish. If there is anything else required, please let me know and I'll provide what's needed. My download speed is reduced to a crawl, so I may be delayed in providing other necessary information. I'm sure that the trojan's have a lot to do with this.

This has only been happening to me since firefox was updated to the newest release yesterday. I don't know if it's a problem with the new release, or if it's something else on my computer causing the problem.

But firefox is consistently using CPU in the 90% range. Especially if I've got more than one tab open. It hangs, takes 3 minutes to switch between tabs, and slows everything else on my computer down to a crawl whenever it's open. I am not experiencing this problem with IE - but I don't like or trust IE so I'd rather fix the problem with firefox.

I looked around on the mozilla help boards - but nothing I found made any sense. I always understand what YOU are suggesting I do, however. So I figured I should come here.

Any ideas of what I can do to fix this? I really don't want to have to resort to using IE to browse.

Answer:Firefox hogging my entire system

Hehe, I love your alias, I'm from Quebec. I just installed the updates and all is fine with 12 tabs open, actually using 40MB less than before the update. Sorry I can't help you.

I built this system a year ago specifically for Windows Vista. I installed Windows 7 32 bit a couple days ago. There were no issues during the install. Everything was detected and I had absolutely no conflicts after installation. Smooth, fast and wonderful. Now for the issue...

I was sitting here watching TV not looking at my screen. I'd say about 10-15 minutes went by. I reach over during a commercial break to grab my mouse and nothing was functioning. The download I had going that was open in the middle of my screen was stopped, the keyboard wouldn't function the mouse wouldn't move..nothing. I had to manually power off the system. When I turned it back on the computer would not POST! I had to unplug it, plug it back in and wait about 5 minutes before the system would post. Bios defaults loaded and then system booted. I woke up this morning and the system was dead again. I had to power it off and again it would not boot. I had to unplug it and wait awhile. About 5 minutes later (while in windows) I moved my mouse cursor and automatically the system locked again. I had to reboot and this time the system booted up without my having to unplug and sit. I locked the computer and went to work. I just got home about 20 minute ago, turned on my monitor and could not type in my password to log back in, once again it was dead. Power cycled and it booted up fine again.

Now on one hand this sounds like hardware issue then on the other hand it sounds like a software issue or a combi... Read more

Answer:Entire System Stops Responding

No problems here, but it does sound like Hardware especially when you say it wont post, have you been overclocking at all in the last year and have you done any memory diagnostics to check for bad RAM or possibly even the PSU might be the problem. I think the best way to find out if it is Windows 7 causing the problem would be to install another OS and see if you are still having issues.

I turned my computer on today (using XP with SP2), and when it loaded up, everything with text is symbols. (aside from a few limited areas -- I think the title bar of the folders might be using the standard language text). The desktop icons, the names of every folder, all documents and internet sites with text, all of it -- symbols.

I've tried all I can think of to do -- restarting a zillion times; starting in safe mode with and without networking; a restore -- but the most limited kind where I only placed the CD in, loaded it at the restart, and then closed the new XP set up before it continued; checked the regional settings for the language -- can't even see that; virus scan just sits there going slower than anything with no results. I do get an error (full of symbols in the text) but the title bar says 16 sub-system error (so, it is correct to say the title bars remained in English).; and finally I've run some reg repairs from smaller programs (like system mechanic.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on and especially what I can do to fix this??

Answer:My entire system is using symbols as text

2 days ago, I was trying to load up some vacation pics from a Cd from the DVD drive when phone rang. After returning to the 'puter, the DVD was buzzing around all over and not stopping with the screen going black. I shut everything down, retrieved the CD, and rebooted to home screen. My desktop was back with the original wallpaper I had...BUT...the icons were missing with only the text names of the shortcuts/files left behind...?! No matter where I went on my system, all the icons were gone. The system works fine. I can surf from Firefox or IE, I can open pics files and view them. I can even play CoD with no issues at all. I can open all my drives, I have 1 500gb HDD, 1 128SSD, and 1 250SSD. I can retrieve files from all these drives and open/read/view all information, but there are just no icons left. I ran sfc scannow, 3 different full virus checks, 2 different Malware scans, but still no icons, just the icon text. Windows reset as per MS instruction will not work, it says there was a problem resetting. I uninstalled Explorer and tried to rebuild the icon cache but did not work. The other tricks using command prompts from the run screen did not work either. I am retired and basically "winging" this mess, so go easy on me, as I am not a computer wiz...! I must have tried 20 different "fixes" to no avail.

Any and all help appreciated.

Laurie

Let's try this one fix bro:

1) Go to: Icon Cache - Rebuild in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
2) Under option 1 at that page, download: Rebuild_Icon_Cache.bat
3) Run that .cmd file
4) Restart the computer. Let's hope this worked itself out

Been trying to copy 50gb from my synology to a USB hd disk.
This causes the entire system to not respond well.. If I hit the pause button on the copy window everything works again perfectly.
So I tested to a local Hard Drive.. Same copy movement. No issues then.
So the problem is clearly the copying to USB. But is there a way around this.. The computer is becoming unsuable when copying to USB disk. While win 8.1 pro, same computer, same copy movement has no issues at all..
It is only in Windows 10 that this phenomenon happens..
Any ideas anyone?

Was using GPEDIT.MSC to lock down parts of windows for my friends granddaughter's account on her Windows 7 Pro and unknowingly locked them out of every single program, control panel, and even safe mode with command prompt. All I am able to access
is Computer and explore the hard drive. We don't have access to system restore, revovery discs, backups, or any other way of restoring the system or I would of just clean installed it. Is there a back door or a hidden file/folder I can access to delete
the settings? Thank you all in advance for your help.

Answer:Windows 7 Pro gpedit.msc locked down entire system.

Hi,

“Was using GPEDIT.MSC to lock down parts of windows for my friends granddaughter's account on her Windows 7 Pro and unknowingly locked them out of every
single program”

First I want to know the detail steps you did. Such as which option you changed in GP? How did you edit this item?

You may check “Restore files and directories” and “Back up files and directories” options in the path of Computer Configuration\Windows Setting\Security
Settings / Local Policies / User Rights Assignment. Make sure the current account is set in these groups.

Please understand, system restore only could be lunched with administrator permission. I suggest that you may use an administrator account to restore your system.

“Is there a back door or a hidden file/folder I can access to delete the settings?”

There is no back door for this.

However,  you could use Windows Live Family Safety to control this instead of group policy. If you have further question about this, please feel free and let me
know.
Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ?

Ok, Here's the deal..

Now, I usually leave my computer on at night, but this night was different. Was a rare moment, I turned it off!

Not thinking anything bad would happen, since I've turned it off before without any problems. It's usually during electrical storms & such.

anyway, the next morning I went to turn it on and nothing happened.

At first, I thought it was my power supply. The green LED on the MB was on, but that can mean nothing.

I went over to Frys to buy a new case w/ a psu. I needed one anyway. The original was short & crowded. Not good for the air flow & may have been it's demise. (Seconds from Disaster unavailable for comment)

I came home and I slowly pulled everything out of the old case, and swapped it into the new. I put all the brass fittings in their respected places. I made sure the MB was properly set.

I only put the jumpers I needed on, IE power & reset buttons, case speaker & power light. I plugged in the ATX12v, plugged in the psu fan, plugged in the cpu fan. Didn't change any other jumper settings from last time.

I put all my hardware back in, plugged in the monitor, keyboard, mouse & power cord.

Nothing..

So, I pulled both hard drives. I pressed power and the cd-rom started to spin up and all the fans came on. The system seemed to want to boot up after that, but, Nothing appeared on the monitor except the usual "pc turned off/color bar" splash screen.

I pulled all hardwa... Read more

I've been using CorelDraw X6 (Win 7/64-bit) without any major issues for over a year now. Suddenly, a few days ago, I went to resume a project I had been working on the night before and my entire system froze up?mouse, keyboard, everything?a few seconds after clicking the .cdr file to open it (splash screen hadn't even had a chance to pop up). I had to do a hard shutdown and reboot. Tried it again?same thing. Tried opening the program directly from the start menu?again, same thing.

It turns out all programs in the CDX6 suite all now freeze up my system completely when I attempt to open them; Draw, Photo-Paint, Font Navigator, all of them. I can't reinstall or uninstall it either because that freezes up my system too. All X6 patches and updates have been installed and were working fine until this happened a few days ago. My Windows 7 is up to date as well. No other programs outside of the X6 suite are giving me any problems.
I've cleaned out my Temp files, did a sfc /scannow, a system restore (going back 4 days before the issue), a hard drive scan, defrag, nothing works.
Someone in the Corel help forum suggested uninstalling and reinstalling .NET Framework 4 which I did and the update logs indicate it was installed successfully, but it didn't resolve this issue.
Any ideas?

On my Windows 2000 Pro PC, I've recently installed a new Video card.
Once installed, I now have my entire system's displays streched in length:
It's as if you are in notepad and the characters appear in Calligraph421 BT

If it was in Notepad or Word, I woul dhave just change the fonts from the menus...but in this case, it's my entire windows display (the windows popups, all windows, etc..everything is a lil bit stretched in length)!
it's not that bad looking, but I want to get back to the default normal windows 2000 font display. Thanks for helping

I have been trying to fix my in-laws' computer. They have the XP Antivirus 2008 virus/malware. I've tried using the remote assistance option a couple times and it hasn't been optimally cooperative.

They have had essentially no virus/spyware protection of any sort for some time, as they decided to let their McAfee subscription lapse.

I will have hands-on time with the machine this coming Sunday, and I wanted to hopefully get an HJT Log posted here in advance so I could be more efficient on Sunday. So, I installed HJT remotely and tried to run it, but it wasn't cooperating.

Right now, I'm wondering what, if any, guidance can somebody offer me to be able to accomplish as much as possible in relatively limited time on Sunday.

I'd really like to be able to avoid having to keep their laptop beyond Sunday.

Any guidance? Will anyone be readily available on Sunday to help me in near-real-time? Maybe?

Thanks in advance!

I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8 around the new year, and until about June everything worked just fine. Then, Google Chrome all of a sudden started freezing up the entire system and required a restart. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it multiple times and every time the same thing happened. Every time I launched Chrome everything froze up. A month later I tried reinstalling it once again and the same thing happened. Is there anything that may be causing this, as it seems very strange for one single browser to have such an effect and I would very much like to switch back to Chrome.

Answer:Google Chrome Freezes Up Entire System

There is a setting to tell Chrome to run as a Tile App, but it is inside of the Chrome Settings. it can only be set when you have Chrome as default. Try changing your default back to IE, then try opening Chrome again: See if that setting had been checked. It shows up on the button on the right upper side with the three horizontal lines, it says "Open Chrome in Windows 8 Mode" - If that is checked, it may be trying to load Chrome into the Start Screen and choking in the process.

Answer:How do I clone entire system from Desktop PC to new Laptop

Do you intend to continue to use your Desktop: Acer Aspire ASE 380-USD 480A?

If so, you will legally need another copy of your OS (Win7 Ultimate 64bit SP1) to use on your laptop.

I ran chkdsk because my entire system crashed every time I plugged in a device- -ipod, blackberry, etc...
However, the computer crashed during stage 5/5, about 49% into it. It stays a 1.8 million files of 4.something scanned, didn't move from there in hours. After a hard reboot, I ran a system check, and it told me that it's not detecting any issues. I can now plug in my blackberry with no issues.... any thoughts on what's going on there?

Answer:my entire system crashed every time I plugged in a device

chkdsk can take hours to finish.
If it didn't outright crash, it was still working, you just won't see it do anything. I have had chkdsk run for an entire day before.

Might want to run Hard Drive diags. But there is no telling what the problem was.
Next time you run chkdsk, let it finish. It is not often that it just stops, unless there are real issues with the hard drive itself. Then it's time to replace it.

I just wanted to say thanks in advance to all the people who give up their time to come and help here, I joined the forum because it looks like there have been so many great solutions.

My PC picked up the PCeu virus when I clicked on a google search engine news link in advanced search options earlier today.

After this, the PC would not let me start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, or safe mode with command prompts; in order to take the necessary steps to removal explained in other threads with the help of Farbar. When selecting any type of safe mode the computer will crash and go back to the beginning of reboot, despite me pressing F8 afterwards.

When pressing F8, as well as the safe mode options, I am also given these additional options : Enable boot logging, Enable low res video, Last known good configuration*, Directory services restore mode*, Debugging mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure*, Disable driver signature enforcement, Start windows normally*.
(* = Most of which I have tried and result in another system failure and reboot).

The only other option on the F8 menu is 'repair' and this is the only option that works. It sends me to the HP menu restore page with a few other options. These options include : 1) Microsoft system restore, 2) microsoft startup repair tool, or 3) system recovery. After selecting 1), you are able to select a restore point which loads, but right at the end it says the restore has failed. Option 2), tells me I... Read more

Hi there
This is just a note to people who think it's too much hassle to backup their systems.

Just recently I needed to swap from a SAMSUNG 830 128 GB SSD to the newer 840 250 GB SSD on my laptop.

Plugging the new SSD into a USB2 (not even USB 3) slot I restored a previous system image that I'd backed up to a bog standard external passport drive. Time taken for restore -- 17 Mins for 54 GB. This system had Office, Photoshop and quite a few other applications installed.

This laptop was only an i3 powered device but I like it because it's really portable and powerful enough for my requirements - especially when used with a decent external monitor so more powerful machines will complete the operation faster than the 17 mins mine took.

Opened the computer and swapped the SSD's -- Booted fine first time (and faster SSD too) -- although the old one wasn't that bad either -- I'm now using the old one as my Windows to Go system !!.

If I'd have to restore Windows again and all the applications I probably would have spent the best part of at least half a day -- certainly several hours -- plus probably some time on re-installing updates for the OS and the applications - SP1 for office 2010 contains a LOT of fixes !!! if you have to do it again.

So there is really NO EXCUSE for anybody to avoid backing up their systems --keep the OS and applications separate from your USER DATA -- separate partitions or preferably on separate drives.

I used Acronis 2013 but any type of decent... Read more

I've been having this problem off and on, sometimes it cures itself randomly for weeks at a time but its getting really bad now. Whenever my wireless card is switched on, the computer seems a bit slower, mouse doesn't move smoothly, and most annoyingly, the audio is horribly distorted and crackly. Obviously this is quite rage inducing. Wireless card has newest drivers, Windows is fully updated.

CPU usage isn't rising so I have no idea whats causing it

Answer:Entire system slowing down when wireless card is turned on

sounds a bit odd for a wireless card to slow down the computer....have you tried booting into safe mode with networking and see if that slows down the computer. i'm just thinking it the wireless card and somthing else is working together for this problem.

I noticed if my internet is down and I am accessing the web interface, at some point, something will fail to load. The page will just spin forever. At this point the entire web interface is pooched, even trying to close and go back in, no go. Only way to get it going again is to power cycle.

I suspect it's trying to access something on the internet (maybe looking for an update?) and it does not fail gracefully and takes the whole system with it. Well, the web interface anyway. It will continue to route packets in this mode but it can't be accessed at all.

Anyone know anything about this, ex: is it a known issue? i posted on their forums but never got a response but I googled and found other people with a similar issue with the web interface.

I noticed this when my internet was down after I made firewall changes and I was just troubleshooting why before I call my ISP. (turned out to be them). My internet rarely goes down but I don't like the idea of a device on my network ceasing to work just because my internet is down.

Answer:PFsense web interface locks up entire system if internet is down

You running it on a dedicated box? or a VM. Im on a VM and havent noticed it, but I dont allow it to update automatically. I know when you open the web console it immediately searches for an updated version, that would be my first guess on what is going on.

Even if you cant remote dont you have a local console? with mine running in VM I can still access the machine itself to reset web or reset the machine itself.

On 2.66GHz CPU, 1.5GB RAM, GeForce 6 series GPU, clean install of Windows XP SP2:

Any media player I try lags my entire system when attempting to play some videos. Initially it would lag the mouse as well as the screen occasionally blinking black for 1/10 of a second until I disabled overlay for media Player 11. Now it sucks up 95%-100% CPU cycles, but at least the GUI is responsive again so it's easier to kill the offending apps. So far it seems only to be WMV format, and some unknown format streaming media that loads through an embedded Windows Media Player (probably WMV as well).

I initially had Windows media player 9, tried uninstalling and upgrading to 11. Tried DivX, RealPlayer, etc. etc. cleaning all previous media player installs with each different installation.

I've tried ACE CodecS Mega Pack as well as K-Lite, and neither fixed the problem. Everything still lags and says "Opening..." when I play certain files.

GSpot reports codecs installed for the files that do play, but for WMV files it only displays file size info, plus the File Type and MIME Type in the "container" list.

I've already tried cleaning and reinstalling graphics drivers as well as trying different versions. Anyone know what else to try? This is hampering some important college work as I need to view some streaming videos. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi All,
I will try to keep this to the point. I want to backup/copy my entire xp drive to a second drive then disconnect the second drive and keep it for when this one fails or the system starts giving me so many hassles it calls for a full reinstall of windows. I have installed the backup utility from the xp home cd. I don't want to use boot floppy's etc, i just want to be able to connect the other hard drive and have every thing running as it was previously. All is running great at present so i figure now is the time to do it. Is it possible to do this with the backup utility or do i need Norton Ghost. Never used either. I'm sick of reinstalling windows after dodgy programs stuff the system or through my own silly mistakes ! Looking forward to suggestions.
Brunoboy.

Answer:Backup/Copy Entire System to a 2nd Hard Drive

Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image would be your best bet. Either one would be able to make a direct image of you drive as it is now and be able to just put that image onto your hard drive at any time.

PS I have edtied the title to remove the Caps. No need for them.

Specs:
Windows 7 64-bit
Service Pack 1
CPU: i5-760 2.8GHz
GPU: GTX 660 Nvidia Driver: 335.23
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-850TX 850W
Mobo: ASUS Maximus III GENE
Boot HDD: SAMSUNG 830 Series SSD

Basic Explanation of the Problem: When I'm playing games, no matter the graphical intensity, my display will randomly shut off and audio will duck out. It stays like this for about 5 seconds then everything comes back online, with an error popup bubble from the system tray that says something along the lines of "Nvidia display drivers crashed and have recovered." Sometimes this happens very often, sometimes I can go for a few hours without it happening. Sometimes when my display ducks out, instead of a black screen it will be pure magenta, or pure yellow, or pure green, and the audio instead of ducking will hang. It doesn't recover from this state and I have to hard restart my computer. Sometimes the system just crashes entirely and automatically restarts. These latter two issues happen more rarely, the "display driver crashing and restarting" error is by far more common.

Details and What I've Done Already:
This is an issue that's plagued me for about 3/4 a year now. I thought I solved it by using an older video card I had (a GTX 460). Everything was going fine with my 460 except sometimes I would boot my computer up and everything that used the GPU would run at like 2 fps. I'm talking games, Windows Aero fades and window size ... So ive had a problem with very specific visuals in games completely rebooting my computer i have also found that attempting to stress test the card has the same result.

I can rule out card issues since ive tries stress testing both a nvidia 770 and a 560 in both tests the computer crashes the same second i start the stress test.
Ive also tried different drivers none seemed to have any effect.

So ive pretty much ruled out that the issues lies in the graphic cards and is tied with the heat issues i had with my CPU a while ago.
What happend then was that i had forgotten to change the cooling paste when removing the heatsink for cleaning and the cPU reached teampratures of 95+ and ofcourse made the system do a emergency shutdown.

With that in mind im thinking i might have caused some damage to the hardware but i dont know what to look for in order to determine that.

So any help or advice would be great.

Hi

I hope somebody on this knowledgeable forum can help me after a very silly mistake I had committed when trying to reinstall/reformat my friend's Samsung R519 Laptop and do a clean install of windows 7. I had used the tutorial below, using diskpart to 'clean all'

How to Do a Clean Install of Windows 7 ? How-To Geek Forums

DiskPart <ENTER>
list disk <ENTER>
select disk 0 <ENTER>
clean all <ENTER> (Will Take a While)
create partition primary align=1024 <ENTER>
format fs=ntfs <ENTER> (Will Take a While)
assign <ENTER>
active <ENTER>
exit <ENTER>
exit <ENTER>

The problem there were two disks listed - disc 0 and disc 1 - I completed the steps above but stupidly ran the clean all steps for both discs and now I think I had managed to delete the entire HDD and now it won't boot from CD. The error comes up as 'operating system not found'.

I can access the BIOS on F2 but cannot access the recovery console on F4 - it's probably been deleted. I have tried booting from various recovery discs including the windows 7, a system repair disc (created from a different laptop), and the hiren's boot cd. Nothing will load from the CD-ROM as it says the same error - Operating system not found.

At some point I can remember it saying bootmgr is missing, but after attempting a few things I read up on various forums I don't receive this error anymore. I'm thinking there must be a way to load up whatever is misi... Read more

Is there a way to be able to copy my entire hard drive (operating system, programs, etc) to a portable hard drive and still have it work on the portable unit? I know in the past, I have taken a hard drive out of a desktop computer and it worked that way, but I have never tried this.

I want to wipe and reformat my hard drive on my laptop and would like to have a working backup if I ever need anything on it without having to put everything back onto the laptop hard drive as I may never need some of this info again.

Thanks,

John

Answer:Copy entire operating system to portable hard drive?

No .. I can only speak for USB drives. What happens with usb is everytime you plug in a device usb resets. So if you have windows out there on a usb drive and it is doing an in page and you plug in a usb device and the usb resets... well that is not good. I think win 98 will run on a usb drive, not xp though. Second xp will not install at all on usb.

Yes this guy I work with has xp that boots from a usb flash drive. Actually it is some sort of a shell that xp is running in, some othre program. Very unsecure.

I am experiencing lag times that are incredibly slow. When I log on it takes almost 10 minutes before my desktop appears. Any software program takes a long time to open and always kicks back errors that I have clicked "do not ignore" including I9. Outlook won't load my folders anymore. All folders: documents, pictures, music take up to 20 minutes to upload. I suffer watching a green bar slowly creep across the menu bar with no results. I also ran a complete Windows Defender-found nothing, defragged my hard drive, checked recent updates-found none. My computer also has started restarting itself (no time pattern) and I've had the "blue screen of death" appear three times in the past month-all times required hard reboots. Took all the advice found in aother forum about lag times to try resolve my issues: Booted in safemode-took almost as long to upload; Ran SFC/SCANNOW in command field-results returned normal, no integrity issues found. My computer is less than a year old. Gateway says its a Microsoft issue because I changed from the OEM to my own Windows 7 Professional (discount because I'm in school). Had a computer tech look at it & he says it either my media center shutting systems down or my cpu is overheating or my video card is defective. The issue:

At times the GPU will spike to 100% and freeze the entire system, usually preceeded by the mouse "dragging" or slowing down and stopping. If I do not quickly stop using the mouse after the slowdown begins, the entire system will usually freeze and cannot be recovered without power cycling the PC. If I stop using the mouse in time, the system will recover to normal after a few seconds. (if playing sound or music when the slowdown starts, the sound is caught in a loop until the spike ends). This occurs often with nothing more than Outlook and a browser window open, more often with several applications running as is usually the state I work in, although not related to games or anything that heavily taxes my system. The offending process is usually csrss.exe (usually when running my ArcMap application), chrome.exe or firefox.exe (usually the only browsers I use) and occasionally dwm.exe. The firefox.exe process pic attached was just after resuming after suspend, which triggers the issue at times as well (although the browser related issue most often happens while actually browsing).

I have caught this pattern several times in the Process Explorer (see pics):
GPU usage spiking to 98%-100% (with preceding usage only around 1%)
The offending process appears to only be "using" 50%-70% of GPU during the spike
At the same time or just following the usage spike, there is a sudden drop in GPU dedicated memory.

A couple of times I have been... Read more

Hi,
I have a drive that was using PGP that has become damaged and will not boot despite trying 3 days of different fixes and repairs. I have a complete drive backup that will restore but when I try and boot after my PGP password I get 'Missing operating system'. Again I have tried decrypting and fixing but to no end.

I have another disk with a working and booting install of Win7 (same architecture etc) on. I have the entire contents of the non-booting system disk that I can access from the image of it.

If I booted into something like Windows Recovery or Live Linux environment, can I copy the entire contents of the non-working Win7 drive over the working one and expect it to work and then boot?

Aside from a fresh install of Windows and all apps and settings I am at a loss and hoping something like this will work!

Thanks

After disinfecting and attempting boot repairs there are steps for copying out files at boot which should bypass encryption since the OS is inert. Then you can restore your image or Clean Reinstall following best practices in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

I would not use any Norton or Symantec product.

This Acer Aspire 7250 laptop with Windows 7 64bit system has been causing trouble ever since I ran Tron script. I have ran the DDS on this machine if needed I will post as directed. As the title says the stuttering and delays are system wide. In event viewer the Error 11, the driver detected a controller error on \ Device\Harddisk\DRI. , which concerns me. I was seeking help on this if anyone has an idea. There are about 7 other error/warnings in the event viewer 3 of which I know to be irrelevant. As of now I only have Windows Firewall and AntiMalware malware on this system, formerly Avast Premier was on the machine. If more information is needed please inquire, I appreciate all assistance.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running on Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP1.
and lately whenever I switch it on Windows Boot Manager appears with the following message.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
1) Try system repair
2) Insert Recovery Disk.

File: \$ Windows.-BT\ Windows\ System 32\ winload.exe

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded. Application might be missing or corrupt

after which I get the following options

Windows Setup
Windows Vista

and when I enter Windows Vista. I get my perfectly normal OS that has been installed with all of my data.

When I try system repair I get a blue screen which says the thread had to terminated. Try closing BIOS.

*** STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x83FFE330, 0x83FFE47C, 0x81254336)

What do I do to fix this problem?

Would be highly appreciated if you could help/

I have an old Dell PC with Windows2000. A few years ago I noticed that the it would not play cd's without skipping. I have had to use another computer for my ipod. A few months ago, the cd rom would no longer open so I just replaced it with a Pioneer DVR/DVD and it still skips while playing a cd! It also would not import to itunes. I was told my drivers could be bad but I am really lost while trying to find ones to update/ install. Please help!!!

My CD/DVD rom shows up in my device manager & states it is working properly.
Any disc that I put into the drive is not recognized. It pulls up zero info from the disc as if it can not read it. If I simply select play (even though no info is showing) I get the windows notice to add media to that drive.I thought the drive had died and I was ready to install a new one. BUT..
I ran the installed PC-Doctor program that is a HP diagnostic program and during that test, the drive played just fine. There are multiple test for the DVD/CD rom and it passed every test in the PC-Doctor program.
But after the test, I again placed different CD's , DVD's into it, and nothing.

My "gamer" -PC has lost its connection to the rest of my LAN, WDlive, laptop.
The laptop can not "see" my "gamer" -PC more. And yet. Do I open a cmd in my "gamer" -PC and writes PING PHOTO PC (called my laptop), then the corresponding fine, but in the Windows network can not be seen, and I can not connect or network drive to it. Oddly enough, I have always had a network drive on "gamer" looking for PHOTO-PC, and this old connection still works fine, even though I reboot both computers
As I see it, so can the PCs well find each other in a CMD, but not in Windows Explorer or Total Commander. Both PCs are members of the same workgroup. I have been through all the settings in "Network and Sharing Center" and they are 110% identical (there are not corrected in them, since that time it worked).
Is there perhaps a service not running? Or a policy that has been changed?
The laptop and WDlive can see each other, and the laptop can easily see the wife's PC when she is on (it can "gamer" -PC'en no longer).

If I create entries in reg.databasen, it connects the network drive just fine after a reboot. See picture for examples of drive Y and Z. Both networking places are available as network drives, and in a CMD prompt with "PING PHOTO-PC" for example.
It is only in Windows Explorer that it can not find the names and / or network sites. Therefore, I believe that it is a service or a policy that has gone w... Read more

OS=WinXP Pro, 64-bit, installed on drive partition "D:\".

Have tried " sfc /scannow", following instructions online as follows:
1) copied folder I386 to "D:\"
2) Regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup>ServicePackSourcePath, where I changed location to "D:\".
3) Restarted computer, re-tried "sfc /scannow", after which still got "...need XP CD for more..."This was supposed to prevent the latter request for the CD, which didn't work for me anyway.
Will any of this work, specifically in XP 64-bit?
I need to check my system for errors: can you help to get sfc working for me?
Thanks in advance.
Art Miller

Answer:SFC won't work properly

Did you also change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup - SourcePath to D:\?
And does the CD have the same service pack as is installed on the PC?

On my laptop I have a DVD CDRW combo drive (ie. I can watch DVDs and burn CDs). However the past three times I have tried to burn a music CD the buffer rate goes all the way down, then fixes itself, but shortly after completely fails and the burning process stops at 30%.

Variables:
>I have not changed the type of CD I use when burning since I have had the laptop.
>I have always used Nero burning software.
>I have installed new RAM recently.

Basically, I am wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this error. If it is the RAM that caused this (I'm pretty sure the errors started shortly after new RAM) will taking it out fix it? Should I try a new burning suite? If the problem is not fixable the laptop is still covered under a 12 month HP warranty and 3 year extended warranty so I can get it replaced or fixed but I would rather that be the last resort. Any help would be great, I don't know anything about hardware issues, etc.

Answer:DVD/CD-RW won't work properly

"(I'm pretty sure the errors started shortly after new RAM)"

well you found ur problem
try this
change back to the old ones, and try to burn, see if it works
if it works, ur new ram are not very compatiable

are the new rams same brand and PCXXXX as the old one?

Hey, So I updated the Y510P to windoes 8.1 (Most regretted thing I've done with this laptop, that includes doing a battery reset.)  As many people have found out there are issues with 8.1 and SLI. I used the recomended BIOS update, and that seemed to fix the issue.  Unfortunatly, for some reason I'm not sure about, the 750M does not seem to be working right. Before the windows 8.1, and after updating the BIOS, League of Legens ran at the 60 FPS capped at max settings.  After the 8.1 and now, LoL will run around 10-15 FPS at max settings, and only 25 FPS at the lowest graphics settings.  I'm not sure why the laptop's performance has dropped.  I'm also getting major lag in Path of Exiles, where I used to have no issues playing it.  As I mentioned, I have used the BIOS update, and it did fix the issue I had with 8.1  I've specified that the laptop use the 750M as the default graphics GPU, and in the GPU monitor, the games show up and using it.  But as I've stated, their performance is at par with using the integrated  Intell graphics card.  Any thoughts or suggestions of what I can try to fix this issue would be greatly appreaciated. Sincerly,Jinotad.

Hello everyone.

My name is George Sebros and I owe a Toshiba Satellite A300.
The reason why I am posting this new thread is that I need a little help from anyone who knows something about my problem above:
One day, about 2 months ago... I turn on my Satellite A300.
When it logged in, not only none of my icons appeared but also the start menu didn't....
The only thing that appeared in a totally BLACK screen, was my "Documents and Settings" folder which was opened automatically.
There was no way I could find neither the Start menu (I mean the task bar) nor my icons...
So, everytime I closed the Documents and Settings folder that was appeared, the only thing I could see was a black screen....
It was a kind of shock for me and I could not believe in my eyes...

After a few days, I tried the well-known combination "Ctrl+Alt+Del" in order to see what was working and what was not.
Then, I pressed the "FILE" and then "NEW TASK" and finally, I typed the word "explorer" in it.
That was it!! Suddenly, everything turn to normal as like the day before the problem begun. I was happy because with this way, I was able to use my Satellite A300 again!
However, this is an indirect way to make my PC work!
That means that I am still fain to use that indirect way to make the icons and the taskbar appear.
Does it mean that the "explorer.exe" is not working ?
A lot of registry programs I use, notify me about some HKY... Read more

Hi

Seems your Vista is muddled up?
You could try to clean the OS and the registry in order to avoid new OS installation.
Please use the CCLeaner.

I use this tool as well? it free and it cleans the registry and other temporally files.
It helps really!

But if the OS will still not work as it should then you should try a new installation?
Of course this procedure is drastically because the HDD would be formatted but at the other hand you will get a clean and fully functional OS
