missing information in details pane for media files (such as song length)

Question: missing information in details pane for media files (such as song length)

I googled the problem and NOTHING!!!!! many information NO LONGER is displayed in my details pane in Windows Explorer!!!!!! song length is one of them gone missing (& total length if multiple files are selected) and I use that frequently!!!!! it ONLY shows basic information now such as artist, title, album, and genre!!! but total length is GONE!!! also MANY UNRELATED INFORMATION is now in the details pane for media files!!!!!!! mood of music has been added (never heard of that tag), song rating, and composer now have been added!!!! it even displays ALL THIS SAME INFORMATION for WAV files when it used to be ONLY file size and length for WAV files!!!!!!! WAV is NOT capable of tags so I don't know why Windows Explorer shows this information for WAV files!!!!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How can I re-associate .mp4 files with video details displaying in the Details Pane? After installing the K-lite codecs pack, my mp4's all began displaying in the details pane as audio files (Album, Artist etc) and no longer displays the important video default details (size, frame height, bitrate etc). I assume it was because of incorrectly associating file types when installing the codecs (even though wmv's, avi's are still correct), so I uninstalled the codecs but the Details categories remain for typical audio files. I've exhausted The Google and I'm stumped... any help? (Win7, 32-bit with VLC as my default player) Thanks!

I have this problem with the vista details pane and I have not been able to find any solution. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium version. The problem is that:
1. My details pane is missing a lot of properties/tags . Only ones that are appearing are file date, file name, dated created.
2. When I go into a MP3 folder, same thing happens as I described in 1. Just the 4 tags appear and I don?t get any other tags that used to be there like artist name, rating, title, etc.
3. I cannot edit any Tag in the details pane. When everthing was working fine, I could go in the MP3 folder , I could edit the title, ratings etc. and Save it. But now I can?t do anything, the save button does not appear and the tags don?t go in edit mode.
Up till now I have tried the following solutions:
1. I have reset all the folder options in Vista by going to Folders/tools/reset defaults. (did not work)
2. After resetting the folders, I have also turned on the details pane option under Organize/Layout and the details under the Views. (did not work)
3. Under View, in the tool bar, I went to Customize This Folder and chose the Music Folder Option, All Items etc. (did not work)
4. Then on the Microsoft site, I found this solution ? Open Documents by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Documents., and click a file to apply properties. Then In the Details pane at the bottom of the folder window, click the property that you want to change, type the new property in the Tags.? But it did not work ei... Read more

You said "when everything was working fine" what happened? did you download a new program? (itunes, vlc)

If it wasn't that long ago, you could try system restore.

Did you use a "registry cleaner" or an "optimizer"?

On the properties window, general tab, what is it set to "open with"?

Answer:WMP 10 Media Information Pane...

Hi Allen,

When you use the term "media information pane", you're talking about the Library screen display... the pane below the center Details pane... the pane where information from your currently selected online store is displayed? Right?

Left click on "Help", at the top of your screen, to trigger the drop down menu. Click on the Contents and Index. Up comes the 2 page help screen. On the left side, on the "search" page, enter "media information pane" and click on the display button. Check out the entry on the right side page...

What happens when you hide the pane, by clicking on the "More Info" button?
Also, there is a link at the bottom of the page, "To update information about an album". Does it help?

My friend has MSN Messenger 7.5, with the Messenger Plus 3 add-on. She used to be able to display the song she's listening to as a personal message, but she can't anymore. The "display song information from Windows Media Player as a personal message" box in her settings is still enabled and there is no known reason to this problem. She already updated and reinstalled both MSN and Windows Media, and she even reformatted her hard drive, but the problem has not been solved.

She uses Windows Media Player 10 to listen to music, under Windows XP SP2. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Edit: By the way, she has trouble with her sound card drivers. Could that be the problem? She can listen to music just fine, though.

My Windows Media Player 9 Music Library settings will not automatically update media information for files which were copied from CD's. These CD's were copied over several months but the missing media data i.e. '01 Track 1' is intact. I have done this successfully in the past with no issues.

I added the correct folder for monitoring with the following settings in Tools - Options - Media Library:
Update files by retrieving missing information from internet.
Only add missing information.
Find media information for music copied with another program.

I restarted the computer and started the browser before opening WMP9 and waited several hours for it to update with no changes appearing. I tried this with both Explorer and Firefox.

There is no menu item to force media information updates.

Is reinstalling WMP9 the best option at this point?

I recently used IOBit uninstaller to remove all traces of a program from the registry. I'm assuming it removed something that caused this issue, because after I used it all my program information in Add/Remove programs was missing. In order to customize which fields are displayed in the details pane for a given file type you can:

1. Run Regedit.
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAsso ciations\.mp3 (Or whatever file type you want to edit.)
3. Edit the PreviewDetails string.

My question is:
Is there a way to do something similar for folders? Currently, the only info displayed in the details pane when a folder is selected is Date modified, and Availability. I would like to add other details to this pane (Size, Date created etc...). Is this possible?

I just did a reinstall of XP Pro and am having trouble with video files being "in use" when trying to move/delete them (only a several second lag, but it is annoying me). It has to do with a preview being generated in the details pane in the bottom left corner of Explorer. I eventually figured out how to turn off the preview option on my last install but have forgotten how I did it. Under folder options I have "do not cache thumbnails" unchecked. Is this the setting I need to change? Or is it somewhere else? It seems to me I need an option to not show a preview in the details pane.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer:How to Turn of Thumbnails in Details Pane?

I haven't done an XP install, but I have had problems like yours. Here is how I fix them without reinstalling, in case it may help? (The instructions may be different for XP.)

Thumbnails are used as icons when the folder is in Thumbnail view. This is usually not the problem, since they are usually cached after the first time. I turn them off by getting the Properties window for that folder. (I just go to the parent folder and right-click on the folder there, then choose Properties.) Then in one of the tabs, I find the Enable thumbnail view option and uncheck it. But, again, this is probably not the problem.

The preview thumbnail (actually, the whole details pane) can be turned off by unchecking View as Web Page in the View menu in one folder. Or, you can turn it off for all folders by going to View menu > Folder Options > General tab > choose Custom, then click the Settings button and in the View Web Content in Folders section, choose Only for folders where I select "as Web Page" [View menu]

If I want the details pane, but not the preview, I edit the HTML of the window. I don't know if you want to try this, it can be confusing, but here's what I do, just in case:
I right-click on the detail pane (or you can use the View menu), and click Customize this Folder... then choose create or edit HTML document. This allows me to customize that details pane. To remove only the worst case files from the preview, I see if I can find "var w... Read more

As the title says. I first tried to find the album info using WMP, got it, and it changed the file names... but then in the library everything changed back to what it was before. I tried a couple more times with the same result.

I then decided to manually change the info, thinking it was a problem with WMP. Long story short, every change I made disappeared as soon as I hit OK.

But here is the real clincher that has me beating my head against the wall: It is only happening with a certain 15 files that are all in the same album. They have no protection on them, they aren't locked, they aren't hidden, I even checked to see if they were system files. Nothing. Can I get suggestions on this unusual problem? I just can't think of anything else to try, besides getting a hex editor out and trying to change the info that way, but really...

Recently I was trying to add comments to movie folders so that i can keep a brief description about it when i click on it. It was easy to add comment then i had a bit trouble to get the comment getting displayed in the details pane...after playing with the registry for a while i got that solved as well.

So what i need is to find a way to expand what ever that is shown in the details pane so that it shows the entire content in consecutive lines without being restricted to one line (without having to hover a mouse)

You might get a picture of it if you have a small details pane on the right and make it show your processor details when you open thisPC.

Hello.

I've been trying to re-organize my photo collection. Previously, I had been using Windows Live Photo Gallery to tag my photos, and admittedly it was convenient. Recently, though, the program has gone on the fritz to where thumbnails aren't loading so it's harder to differentiate photos simply by the file name in cases where I have a lot of photos of the same group or folder. While I've tried a lot of troubleshooting to get the thumbnails to load, and would gladly take advice on that issue, in the meantime I'm trying to accomplish the same thing using the details pane in explorer.

When I highlight a photo right now, most file types load the date stamp, tags, rating, author(s) and comments properties in the details pane. However, I'd like to edit the people properties so I can tag individuals in the photos. I have not seen a way to easily do that short of using other software (such as Photo Gallery).

Does anyone know if there's a way to do this through explorer or will it require a separate application?

Answer:People tagging of photos using details pane

You are talking about edit Exif data. There are programs out there that allow you to do that.

Is there any way to permanently remove or disable all of the various "views" in the Windows 7 Navigation Pane *except* for Details? If a subdirectory contains audio files I *never* want to see "Album" or "Artist" or any of the rest of that garbage. If the subdirectory contains an image file I *never* want to see a thumbnail of images. If I need more information about a file I'll right click on it and select Properties, thankyewverymuch!

In short, when I click anywhere in the left or right panel in the Navigation Pane I never want to see *ANYTHING* except the file name, type, size, and date modified. If it isn't a file (e.g. Network, etc.) just show me a computer or device name, not some massive image of a router or other waste of my time.

In addition to using the burned CD-RW's to put music on my other computers, I was also planning to use them to back up my music collection in case it is somehow lost. All three computers are Windows XP Home Edition. I plan to delete the CD-RW's and then re-burn them...How do I make it so that the CD-RW's (HP brand CD-RW's) remember the song info?

I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.

The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.

If anyone else has the answer, I will be really grateful.

Answer:Vista vs Windows 7 - Video Preview on Details Pane

I guess you could edit that through the registry, but believe me, lol, to be honest Idk...

Hello! Title says everything
Win 8 Enterprise x64, non local administrator user.

I can not change music's rating or other stuff from details pane. In local administrator user I can. Should I change my account type or any help?

Also the music is at external HDD
Thanks

Answer:The Details pane - Can not modify Music's Rating and stuff

Check that your files haven't suddenly become "Read-only".

Also try running CHKDSK to check the drive.

After I've used one of my external HDDs at TAFE, my PC claims that it is "Read-only" and it takes several CHKDSK commands to fix the problem.
Of course after CHKDSK is finished, it says that there weren't any problems.

I want to make some specific changes to the default Preview Details string for picture files in Windows Explorer. I have found an excellent write-up on how to edit that string using regedit, but the author was only interested in the specific around music. In the attached picture, I show the file properties/attributes that I am interested in placing in the Detail Pane. The current edited string is shown below.

prop:System.Photo.DateTaken;System.Keywords;System.Title;System.Subject;
*System.Photo.PeopleNames;*System.Contact.Location;*System.Contact.StateOrProvince;
*System.Contact.Country;System.Comment;*System.DateCreated;*System.DateModified;
*System.SharedWith

As you can see, some work, others don't. Is there a comprehensive list of these properties and their syntax in the form
(*)System.xxxx.yyy
that one can refer to when modifying the string?

Hi,
I must apologize in advance for any forthcoming ignorance, as I am a forum newbie. Using Win8.1, I am trying to relocate the Details Pane in Explorer from the space wasting right side to the well fitting & familiar bottom.

Fix I found is here: How To Move Details Pane To The Bottom In Windows 8.1 File Explorer

Has anyone had any experience in general with this tool? Haven't been able to find out any more jnfo either way othter than the link.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Answer:Win8.1: Reconnect Details Pane to bottom of Explorer

Better use Old New Explorer:
OldNewExplorer - make your 8.1/10 explorer work like Win7/8 one - StartIsBack+ - MSFN Forum

It has some other features but the one you are searching for is one of them. It doesn't always make the hack but it is much safer than patching the shell32.dll

In Windows 8.1, I want to customize the properties displayed in the Details Pane for ALL of my MP3s . (That is, I do not mean removing/modifying the properties on an individual MP3/music file. I mean choosing what gets displayed in the Details Pane for all music files.)
In XP (which I love and miss), I do believe the Details Pane could be customized easily, but I see no way to do that in 8.1. For example, I want to display Artist, Album, Year, Track #, Size, and Duration ONLY. How do I remove Rating, Genre, Title, etc.
Also, can I remove the "breadcrumbs" (...) and have the full line displayed? In XP, everything was displayed. Now you have to hover over something to see it. How is that better?
I miss XP's file manager!

Hi, I just re-installed windows 7 on my desktop pc and have a question about the settings of the details pane in windows explorer (the one that appears and the bottom when you select a file). Previously when I selected video files (.mp4, .avi and .mkv) I would get the details at the bottom, the video frame width and height, size of file etc.. but since I reinstalled I don't get these details when I select video files. I know its only a small problem but I work with video files a lot and have gotten used to seeing the resolution of files without having to open them. Does anyone know how I can get the details pane to show these details again? At the moment it only displays the video size, name and state.

Here is a screen-shot of the details pane for a selected .mkv video file on my laptop, this is what I want it to display on my pc.

Answer:Solved: Windows explorer details pane for videos problem

Is the folder set as a "Video" type?
Look at the properties of the folder, and there you will see a drop down list for the type.

I would like to see more audio details in win10 file explorer preview pane, especially the channels and bitrate for movies in the *.mkv format. (I would like to see if they include DTS 5.1, languages, subtittles etc.)

Before the latest creators update, this information was shown in the preview pane (along other video-details). Now I can't get it back. Icaros doesn't seem to help in this case.

What can I do?

Screenshot of my situation: http://i31.tinypic.com/e8txr7.png

I am aware that most or all of these song files do actually contain information on them, since I had them in an old computer, and everything was just fine. On this machine all the columns show blank.

I got tons of song files from various sources and none of them show any information under folder explorer. When I add them to the Winamp playlist the tags show normally, however by hitting Properties > Summary on any file I don't see any information there as well.

Thank you for your time, in advance.

Hello, I was wondering about the possibility to increase the images thumbnail size on the details pane in file explorer, and to make the panel maller than allowed by default. Is it possible?
Thank you for your help

Answer:adjust file preview size on file explorer details pane

There seems to be a minimum size which is pre-defined, you cannot make it smaller. The preview and details pane size is set by the DetailsContainerSizer binary value in the Registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Modules\GlobalSettings\Sizer
I do not know of way to make the thumbnail larger in the details pane. It is larger in the preview pane.

When a hardware or software problem occurs, you face a crash, your application is not working properly or your IE got crashed several times. When all such nasty thing occurs, Windows collects information from your computer that describes the problem and then creates a problem report.
Problem report details can include the name of a program that has stopped working, the date and time that a problem occurred, or the version of the program that has encountered the problem. Sending a problem report allows Windows to notify you if a solution is available.
If a solution is not available, you might be asked to provide additional details about the problem. Your participation can help Microsoft create new solutions. Additional details can include files or parts of files that help identify the problem or explain how it has affected your computer.
Windows does not intentionally collect any personal information about you. You can view the additional details in a problem report before sending it to Microsoft.
To know more about what information is being sent view the details of a problem report. Here?s How: Go to Control Panel or Notification area and open Action Center.Click Maintenance.Under Check for solutions to problem reports, click View reliability history. Hey all,
Well...I finally got my Media Player 11 working again after an issue with firefox. After opening it today...I was reminded of an old problem I had been having with WMP 11. I have duplicate songs almost EVERYWHERE!!!
I had been trying to fix this for a quite a while but have come to no clear solution for it. This issue is probably my fault in the fact that when I moved my music from PC to now PC about 11 months ago, I put the Itunes Music files on 2 DVD's, and moved them into 2 different folders in my computer. Also, the music I've downloaded from the internet recently is spread throughout my hard drive. In simpler terms...my music is scattered throughout my PC and I don't want to move it around at risk of Itunes not recognizing where I moved it to causing me a huge headache and a long night moving things back. When media player "automatically" monitors folders for music, It finds the foldered song as well as the song in the Itunes Library, causing up to three of the same song, but from different locations.

Is there any way that you can just sync your itunes library to your Media Player 11 library, and have media player not monitor anything but the itunes library, so that when I add a song to Itunes, it also shows up in WMP, to prevent duplicates?

Any Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Thomas

I have a bizarre problem that I can't seem to solve. I looked all over the internet for solutions, but can't find any.

My problem is that when I right-click on Mp3 files, the pop-up menu shows "Edit Song Information" as the default command for Mp3 files. The default command should be "Play In Winamp".

I've looked for a command in Winamp to change the default command back with no success. I've checked the Mp3 info in Folder Options > View File Types and the "Play In Winamp" command IS set as the default.

One of my other programs must be causing the problem. I have the following audio programs or codecs installed.

Winamp 5.52
Windows Media Player 10
VLC Media Player
iTunes (I don't really use it except for m4b files)
Roxio Easy Media Creator 9
RealPlayer 10.5
K-Lite Codec Pack 3.7.0
G-Spot 2.21
Quicktime Player 7.4

Does anyone know how to get "Edit Song Information" removed as the default command for my Mp3s and what program might be causing it?

Answer:Can't Remove "Edit Song Information" command in Mp3 Right-Click menu

I've got a lot of videos from the recent E3 expo and I've been watching them one last time before I delete them, but there's no sound in any of them now, all of a sudden. This is affecting all media files, yet the familar 'beep' when you do something that Windows doesn't agree with is still there. What could be causing this?

I've restarted the PC and sound is fine again. There was an audio error with Media Player Classic, it said it needed to download an audio codec and gave this reponse:

Stream 1
Avi Splitter (low merit)
MPEG-1 Audio Decoder
Audio Switcher

But when I clicked the button to 'go the website to download the codec', the page is down.

Very very strange!

Guys, I changed a setting in media player to "remove files from my hard drive when I delete them from my playlist". Now I am almost positive that I did not delete them, but all the family videos (no way to replace them) that I had in the playlist at the time are gone!!! I tried two different recovery programs which are always reliable, but nothing turned up. All the videos began with the number 2, so I should have found them easily in my search. Has anyone ever heard of an issue as this, or perhaps know of what happened? I am thinking that they are cahced somewhere and not deleted, or so I hope. I have XP and VISTA dual booting, and I think I was in VISTA at the time but not sure.

Thanks.

Well itunes is really messed up. So I found out that if I just put what I want to listen to on cd and then rip to mp3s or whatever format I want there isnt a problem provided I don't use itunes to play them with.

So anyway I have an album in media player, the songs were not in correct order and so I changed them but media player will not see that. Even after looking up the album info it still will not change it. I cleaned out the registry and all that old stuff and its no good. Jet audio had no problems with the change. Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix media player so it will play the songs in order. Thanks

My windows media player for XP doesn't always recognise when I have moved my downloaded songs to a new folder. In other words, all of my songs are in one folder, but the media player thinks that some are in that folder, and that others are in other folders that the song was once stored in. How do I get media player to keep up with these location changes.

Ryland

Answer:Windows Media PLayer-Song Location

Add them to your playlist:

Click Media Library, and then click the item that you want to add to a playlist.

Click Add to playlist, and then from the drop-down menu, do one of the following:

Click the playlist you want to add items to.

Click Additional Playlists, click the playlist that you want to add items to, and then click OK.

Repeat steps 12 to add as many items to the playlist as you want.

Note: You can also add items to a playlist by dragging files in Media Library or from My Computer, or you can right-click a file, click Add to Playlist, select the playlist, and then click OK.

You can add items to a playlist as long as they are listed in Media Library. If the item that you want to add to a playlist is not in Media Library, you must add it to Media Library before you can add it to a playlist.

So I bought a new laptop (windows 8) and transferred my music library (about 7,000 songs) from my old laptop (windows 7) to my new one. After installing i-tunes, I was surprised to see that about a half of my songs have some aspect of their song-data missing (album, artist, tack title, year, artwork, genre). A few hundred songs have all their data missing except for their track name. I looked at the file properties on windows and all the data is inserted correctly, also windows media payer displays everything fine, but i-tunes messes everything up. I've tried several things but nothing works (re-installing i-tunes, updating to the newer version, adjusting all library settings in the preferences). I've deleted my library and tried to re-transfer my songs, but the same thing happens to the same songs. When I enter the data into the "get-info" it does remain, but I really don't want to manually enter all the data over again. Any ideas of what to try next?

I am a return customer to Bleeping Computers. You helped me immensely with my last PC dilema! Thanks in advance for any assistance you may have on this one:

Background info:
Sony Vaio desktop (Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz, 512K ram) with XP Media Center Edition ver 2002 SP3.
Everything works fine except Media Center. There has not been a problem with it for the 2-3 years of owning this computer until recently. I cannot identify any new programs or drivers that may have caused the problem. I have already tried to do a system restore to prior dates - without success.

Description of the problem:
Media Center loads normally when activated. From the Media Center start menu screen, when I select "My TV", I get the following error message:

"CANNOT LOAD FILES: Some of the files needed to play radio or video are missing or corrupt"

All the other menu options within Media Center work fine, I just cannot get any video for TV or any info on the TV Guide. I can play movies using "My Video" and play MP3's using My Music within Media Center. Yes, the TV cable cable is still connnected to my computer.

I would like to avoid a complete reinstall of the operating system to fix this problem if at all possible. I have no idea of how to find the missing files or whether it is possible to selectively reinstall the missing files. Can you help? This is a different computer tha my last inquiry - so I do not have HJT installed (if needed)

Thanks again.

Hi all,
some, actually, a lot of my avi files in Windows Media Player are missing, they have just simply disappeared.

My system is:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Windows Media Player Version: 11.0.5721.5145

I ran AVG Full scan & Anti-Rootkit scan but they came up with nothing.
I also ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware flash scan, quick scan & full scan, nothing again.
I also found a site online that said if WMP has missing files then clearing the WMP Database or the WMP Cache may fix the problem. I didn't do these 2 things though cause it didn't say if that would delete the rest of my avi files as well or just fix the problem...
Any help would be much appreciated.

I've been trying to run 'Refresh your PC without affecting your files' because I got rid of some malware but annoyingly and strangely I was unable to get rid of it using a system restore point which simply wouldn't work, so I thought I'd refresh my PC to try and ensure everything is running fine. However whenever I do this it says: "Insert Media. Some files are missing. Your Windows installation or recovery media will provide these files.' But if I insert my 64 bit Windows 8 Pro installation disc, it says: "The media inserted is not valid. Make sure that you've inserted your Windows installation or recovery media." Does anyone know why this might be or what I could do about it please??

Windows Media Player playlist location is in 'My Documents\My Music\My Playlists'. Look to see if your playlists are still there.

Next, go to 'My Documents\My Music\BearShare' and see if some of your missing music is located there.

You can transfer music from BearShare to Windows Media Player by following these instructions:

So, I have an error when trying to restart my computer to factory settings. I am running on windows 8.1. It used to say "Could not find recovery environment" but after looking on forums for the day I got it to say the new error (Which I think is better than the old one) If anyone could help it would be VERY helpful. So when I go to settings it then change PC settings, than update and recovery, than recovery than remove everything and re install windows, It gives the error "Insert media, some files are missing. Insert recovery disk or drive" I want to restart it because my computer had randomly switched to a temporary profile, than i fixed it but the "temporary" profile was the new one I had to use and there are many messed up things happening with it. I do not have any disk or my windows activation code. Also, I have used a partition manager before to change the size of one of my partitions (The windows one) Thanks! -Supah

I have just signed upto to Sky anytime so I can watch programs I have missed on my PC. It all installed OK but once I log in I get a message taking me to microsoft. This tells me my licenses are missing or corrupt. It also goes on about DRM files. I have tried to follow the on screen instructions but dont get any where. I tried to reinstall the media player but this didnt help either. Can anyone help me with this in a simple way as Im useless at this sort of thing. All help gratfully recieved.

Answer:Corrupt Or Missing Media Licenses. Drm Files

When you followed the directions on MS website, did it ask you to download and Active X component?

Are you using IE or Firefox?

Hello all,
I am working on a clients computer, WinXP Media Center, SP3. Pulled several bits of malware out and installed some of the suggested cleaners, updated same and everything seemed to be running well except Internet Explorer. Tried to run Windows Update and got error message that indicated missing/corrupt files. Ran Dial-a-fix and uncovered several files (rundll for one). Ran sfc /scannow, returned error that Media Center and XP Pro install discs were not the correct disc (actually asked for XP Pro install disc). Do I need an XP Pro disc with SP3 slipstreamed? Or do I need a specific OEM disc from Dell?
Thanks!

Answer:Win XP Media Center missing or corrupt files

If you mean "MCE" when you say "Media Center"...then you need the MCE 2005 installation disk, slipstreamed or not.

Since it's a Dell system, you need to look up data on the specific model and determine how Dell set it up for recovery/repair/reinstall options.

Recovery CDs/partitions are no substitute for a MS XP install CD when attempting to repair/troubleshoot XP known issues.

I have been using Windows Media Player 11 to download songs from Pure Tracks. Up to now it has been working well. For some reason the new songs I play are cut short and I can't play the whole song.

Thanks for any help you are able to give.

I am running Windows 7

Answer:Solved: mp3 to windows media player need to put a theme song on cd

If you have CD burning software on your computer, like
nero or similar,it usually includes the ability to convert
mp3 to cda(compact disk audio) which is the standard
format for audio on CD's and should play in most CD
players.
