Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

Question: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the problem might be? I prefer to fix the problem from home if possible.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.

If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.

I had a virus a few days ago. I tried to delete the virus after downloading a scanner. My laptop rebooted and had a blue screen that gave me options to fix, reset to factory, etc however the keyboard wasn't working so I couldn't put in my password. The only option without the password was to reset totally so I did. After a while another screen popped up saying there was an issue with the resetting. Long story short when I reboot only the lenovo splash comes up, F2 and F12 at the bottom of the screen, and the curser in the top left corner blinks a few times and then disappears. I can't get it to boot for nothing. I am able to plug another keyboard in but now all I get is the black screen and have no options to reset. I've read that the bios is probably the issue but have not clue how to get this set back up. Won't read usb flash. Please help.

Laptop is running on Windows 10. Yesterday I updated my AMD graphics driver using the update tool from AMD. After all the necessary files were downloaded and installed, I was prompted to restart and I did. Upon restart, the laptop would not boot past the Lenovo screen. The white circles that rotate always freeze and it just stays on the Lenovo screen upon every attempt to boot. I can't enter safe mode or the bios options, what can I do to fix this?  P.S. A few months ago I began having an issue with the sleep mode. When trying to enter sleep mode, the laptop would just shut down unexpectedly and almost instantly. I'm not sure what caused this issue, but I've just been avoiding it by shutting down instead of sleeping. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, or if the restart was interrupted by an unexpected shutdown.

Dear Members,I am in trouble with my  Idea Pad Z570: I bought it couple of years ago running Windows 7. During the years of usage I had no trouble at all. With Windows 10 beeing released, I upgraded and it starts to make a lot of troubles: Bluescreen directly after boot or sign in, no WiFi, ... all the known stuff. So I decided last week to downgrade to Windows 7. But now, I am even in a bigger trouble:I tried to boot the Windows 7 from DVD and it crashed into Bluescreen saying: Windows Error 0xc0000225Restarting is not helping. So, i tried to go into BIOS to boot from another device, but I do not even get to BIOS or UEFI. So, thats a kind of Deadlock: I cannot boot from Harddisk because Windows Error 0xc0000225 appears and I cannot get into BIOS & UEFI because the Windows error 0xc0000225 comes before getting to BIOS. Hope this description of my current situation is understandable and you guys have a lot of ideas how to fix it. Thanks!TheGooner

Yesterday my Lenovo Y50/70 stopped booting up.  I am running windows 10 and when I power it on the fan comes on and i get the Lenovo screen and the spinning dots for a few seconds, then it blinks goes blank.  The screen is lit but nothing is displayed.  I can interrupt the boot by hitting F2 and see the bios stuff but nothing so far has helped. What is going on?

Answer:Lenovo Y50 Y70 Wont boot past Lenovo power up screen

If you switch off the laptop, and then switch it ON by pressing the ONE KEY RECOVERY button, what do you see?
Does it go into the recovery menu?

Hi all, Having multiple problems with my z570, initally started booting up very slowly and running system repair automatically, and could eventually load onto desktop. Then system repair to load to no desktop giving an error code 6.1.7600.16385, corrupt driver etc. Sometimes same error code with NoOS Now seems to boot up only to launch chkdsk automatically which then reboots and starts again. Naively I did not make recovery disks, nor a restore point however I have purchased recovery disks from lenovo which should arrive next week. The plot thickens some what as the Window 7 product key has been worn and is not legible anymore. Will I need the key during the use of recovery disks? If not if there anyway of retrieving it off the machine baring in mind currently I cannot reach desktop? If this is not the case, does anyone know who to contact be it Microsoft, Lenovo or where I originally purhased the machine?  I thank you all in advance!

Answer:Ideapad Z570 - Failing to boot - Lenovo recover disk query.

Hi hazza257 and welcome to the community,

The recovery discs are pre-activated, so you won't have to enter any keys.

You might want to run a linux live from a usb flash drive or cd and run some diagnostics on the hard drive. You might have a problem with the hard drive.

Hi, my name is Ben and i own a 2 year old Lenovo Y530 laptop with windows Vista Home Premium.Everything was working fine, when one day about a month and a half ago, i got the "blue screen of death".Better known as an error code, where your computer crashes.I then proceeded to re-install windows vista, where then it failed to install the updates, and only after a very short amount of time of actually being in the desktop of the computer, it crashed once more, giving the classic error message of it might be something new that was installed, or new hardware, when in reality i didn't install or add/remove any new equipment whatsoever.I bought this Laptop in the US 2 years ago in late 2008, and then moved to Israel. So here is the real problem, after checking the HDD for bugs, or viruses, it was fpormatted, and put back in, also following a system recovery from Lenovos one click recovery system. And found that neither the HDD, or the OS was trhe problem. So since i live in Israel, i sent it to my local Lenovo shop, where they said they do not fix these types of lenovo laptops! So how am i supposed to get to the bottom of this issue? if my local computer lenovo store does not fix my model of computer?I would like an answer ASAP because i need this computer for school and such, and the information that was lost is irrelevant, i would just like the computer to be functioning and stable again.Thank you, and much regards,Ben.

To be covered by warranty, your laptop must have IWS (International Warranty Service). That's the only way to get covered. http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/UserFiles/IWS/20100909035858_62.htm Best regards.

Hi,  My ~3 year old ideapad purchased from Newegg seems to have gone south. I have Windows 8.1 installed. Last night I shut it off to bring it to class and when I got to class and tried to boot up, it wouldn't finish starting up, would sit at the logo screen for about 30 seconds before shutting down and starting over. The fans power up like it is going to start. It repeats this loop indefinitely. I tried holding the reset button next to the charger port and still nothing.  Suggestions?  Thanks

My Z570 is nearly brand new and it just shut down on me the other day and won't boot past the BIOS. I called Lenovo customer support and they "assumed" it was a problem with the motherboard. Which means I have to wait nearly three weeks just to get my computer fixed. Has anyone else had this problem or could suggest some steps to get it to boot up? I've tried changing the boot order in bios but that's really all I can do at this point in time. Thanks.

Answer:Ideapad Z570 won't boot past BIOS

Will it boot a CD or DVD? Or flash drive?

What exactly happens when it doesn't boot "past the BIOS"?

I'm not the greatest when it comes to computers (yet).  I have a quick learning curve.  I have managed to install Linux Mint (Ubuntu) on my lenovo.  Its a slick OS.  I really would like to see if it's possible to install a new processor.  I would like to go from the i3 to an i5 at minimum but would prefer a decent i7 quad core + hyperthreading.  Would this require a new motherboard? Would there even be enough room in the laptop itself?  I'm good with the software aspects of computers but hardware, not so much.  If you would need more details in regards to the exact specs, please let me know.  I really hope someone can help! By the way, the reason I'm willing to invest in this is because I would like to have some sort of experience before i actually hit my computer engineering classes with hardware on top of having a slick running machine.

Hello everyone! I have bought a new z570 a few days ago and am very happy with it!I'm trying to get the veriface software to work, but it wouldn't, even after several uninstalling/reinstalling processes. I downloaded version 4.0, which is said to be compatible with my system. The problem is, when I click the start capture button, nothing happens, the camera is doesn't turn on (judging by the small white led besides it), and the scan doesn't begin. I have the appropraite drivers for the webcam, and it works properly with other programs.did anyone face a similar problem?  hwo can I get veriface to work? Thanks in advance!

I can't find most drivers and the machine's important Apps for my lenovo ideapad z570..I have recently upgraded my machine from Windows 7 Home Premium.. I have format the machine and repartitioned it and made a fresh install of windows 8 Pro..The OS seams to be more than fascinating, of course it needs a touch screen device to get the most out of its functions, but it's doing more than fine on the Z570..All I need here is the full compatible drivers and apps list for Windows8 which it seems to be lenovo is not supporting yet, they make available of the Drivers and Apps that only can make the machine (JUST) working...Also I need to make a full format for my HDD so I can make a proper fresh install of the Windows once more,Thanks.

The Lenovo IdeaPad I'm working on has an issue wherein the built-in webcam claims to be "being used by another program" when opened with Skype and easycam, and online webcam checkers also failed to register a picture. I tried the following approaches:Reinstalling drivers.enabling, then disabling the device.Uninstall, then reinstall both skype and YouCamupdate Microsoft Windows 7 with all service packagesupdate all driversrollback webcam driversUse task manager to disable all non-system processesused Process Explorer to search for programs containing the #vid tag  I'm officially stumped, the webcam was confirmed to work originally- I can't say if there's a hardware failure, and regardless of the method I use the system claims that the webcam is being used by another program  Please Help, and thank you for your time.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 EasyCam

You can try this, uninstall Lenovo EasyCamera software and use standard driver.
Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Uninstall Lenovo EasyCamera driver.

If the issue persist then update the BIOS and reinstall Lenovo energy management software.
Please refer to the web link to download the updates.

Hi, so I bought my Lenovo Y570 sometime in 2011 and it has been running smoothly ever since. However, over the past week I havent used it very much and when I went to use it today, I found that it wouldn't boot past the first Lenovo Logo Screen. I press the power button, it gets to the logo screen, then it 'restarts' itself and does the same thing over and over again until I turn it off by pressing the power button.  I've looked around on other forums and I saw a suggestion to take the battery out and hold the power button for 30 seconds but that didnt do anything and when I hold down the F8 key on the lenovo logo screen, the laptop just beeps a dozen times. I'm not sure if its just done for or if there's anything else I can do, but I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Hi folks... maybe you can help me.  I bought a used S10e in apparently great cosmetic condition with a known boot problem.  It powers on, shows splash screen and the F2 Setup or F12 Boot options at the bottom of the screen the LENOVO logo.  The screen stays frozen and remains on with the keyboard locked.  It will simply stay on that screen.  Until tonight, that was as much as I could get it to do. Tonight, after playing with it a bit, I held down the ESC key as it started to power up and once it displayed the splash screen it beeped loudly about 15 times and changed screens into an apparent boot sequence.  It announced the bios name and other information but I noted a comment regarding "no tpm or tpm problem right before it froze up again.  Encouraged, I shut it off and and tried to power it up again.  This time, after I hit the ESC key and started getting the beeping as the screen shifted, I managed to access the cmos settings.  I carefully went through the CMOS and very carefully ensured no passwords were enabled in either the HDD bootup, supervisor or user areas... I cleared everything out, I think and also reinitiated the factory settings.  I saved all that and tried to save the CMOS and reboot.  When I did, it locked up at the splash screen again and I couldn't go any further.  I repowered up again, hitting the ESC key, then the F2 key as it was beeping and managed to get back into the bios and CMOS. S... When I turn it on, it continuously cycles between the "Lenovo" with black background screen, to a black screen, then seemingly restarts itself and continues over and over. When I hold down the reset button near the power cord, it shuts down the pc, turns it back on, and the cycle begins again. What are my options? Also The PC shipped with Windows 8, but I upgraded to the free windows 10 back when that was available. If I have to reset the PC, it'll reset to Windows 8 right? Will I be able to get it to Windows 10 again?

I have tried the hold down the power key  repair, but that hasn'tworked. I've tried to boot without battery and with battery but unplugged. I found the suggestion about the USB ports being damaged and that could be my problem but I am a computer novice when it comes to hardware. I don't understand how to check the contacts as has been suggested, in the USB ports. Could someone explain exactly what I would do? When I look at my ports they have a little bar looking thing that is not shown in the photo I found referenced on this site.

Answer:SL510 doesn't boot past Lenovo screen

You are probably looking at an image of a port that has the little bar looking thing broken out already.

There's supposed to be a little plastic bar.  It should have 4 metal contacts laid in parallel along it.  If those contacts get twisted they can short to each other or the metal shell and prevent the laptop from booting.

Not to say that's the problem, but it's something to check.

I'm having a devil of a time finding a good photo.  Here's the best I can find ATM:

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

The laptop just won't go past the Lenovo logo and stays there for hours. I've tried everything such as holding F2 and messing around with everything there, holding F12 and booting from everything there, using the OneKey Recovery and tried the Sytem Recovery, which gets past the logo but ends as a black screen. It won't start up no matter what I do. I'm hoping someone with a wider knowledge than I could helpme out with this problem. Story is that it began to get very slow after a System Restore (the Disk was constantly at 100%), so I decided to restore it back to before I restored it and I waited 3 hours at the screen where it said it was storing some stuff and registering things. I looked up what to do and one solution was to shut it down and try again. I did that and now it won't start up. Please help solve this.

Answer:lenovo ideapad z570 my dvd drive is not working

Hi larikrohail,

Your DVD drive head is probably dirty. That can happen when the drive sits for a long time without being used. There are 2 solutions for this condition. I use both.

1. Buy a CD drive cleaner disk. The cleaner disk has a tiny "comb" on the underside, that will wipe the dust off the optical drive head.

2. Pull out the drive tray. Use a 70% solution of rubbing alcohol applied to a cuetip (or cotton swab), and gently clean the dust, and dirt that has built up on the laser drive head. Be careful not to damage the drive head assembly.

After reading what i have on various forums, seems we're not the only people facing this issue. The laptop, Z570 (1024-6JG) was a christmas present to a child recently diagnosed with aspergers. This laptop is the only computer they have, and she has to attend a Virtual Classroom. She has now basically lost her work and cannot access her education. The laptop in question has suddenly stopped working. It was shut down normally, kept safe on a desk, lid was closed. Came to it the next morning and....nothing happens. There are no LEDs lighting up whatsoever, not even the charge LED, which worked before. It does not respond to the power button at all, with just battery, just mains charger or both! Basically, what i really need is for Lenovo to actually support a product for once. So what are the options? I have read that one option is to have one sent out so we can swap the hard drives around - that would be perfect. The other option is to be sent or, if it will resolve the issue quickly, purchase a motherboard from you. I can't seem to source one anywhere on the internet, seems i need to contact you (Lenovo) directly. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated. I just didn't want to ring some number just to be told it was the wrong one or there's nothing that could be done. For a laptop that isn't even 6 months old yet, i find it scandalous that it can just suddenly die like this. What happened to the legendary reliability that is IBM Thinkpad? The most recent IB... Have a nice day!I've got a little problem with shutting down or rebooting my laptop: IdeaPad Z570 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit - SP1.When I try to reboot/shut down the computer after the final blue windows "Shutting down..." pictures the computer doesn't do anything - the keyboard leds (power button etc.) are still lightning and the laptop starts loudly whizzing and workig hard (the display turns off). And I have to turn off the machine with the power button manually after this.Has anybody an idea what can cause the problem? Maybe one of the installed drivers? Or something else?(And sorry, if this isn't a real Lenovo problem, I've just tried to get help here first.)Thank you for your answers!

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Can't reboot or shut down

When did this problem arise? Was it after installing anything? Try a system restore prior to the tome before problem arised.

I think my laptop's fan needs replacement. I was sitting quietly, using my laptop when suddenly it started making weird noise and vibrating horribly. I figured out that the cooling fan is making these horrible vibrations. The fan is working properly but is making my entire laptop vibrate. I need a replacement but there's no lenovo service centre in my city and it is not under warranty. I opened the back and tried cleaning it, but the vibrations won't quit. What should I do? Please can anyone suggest any solution?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad z570 Cooling Fan problem

I assume that you have tried using some compressed air on the fan to blow out any accumulated dust and that did not work. I also assume that when you had the back off you visibly inspected the fan to insure that nothing was caught in the fan blades such as a small piece of paper.  If you have tried all that and the fan is still noisy and vibrates then I would replace the fan.  In the event a Lenovo Moderator doesn't stop in with information on obtaining a Lenovo replacement part, you could also just buy a replacement fan off eBay.  There are a number of sellers that will ship worldwide and page 65 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual will explain how to do it.  Below is a direct download of the Z570 manual.... http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/UserGuide/en/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals/Z370&Z470&Z570/Len...

Hello dear Community! I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 notebook, purchased 4 years ago.Not so long ago the HDD just went wrong again so now I'd like to put an SSD in it instead of a new HDD.Here's my first found: SSD Kingston 240 GB SSD, V300, 7mm (other specs: 2,5 inch, SATA3 interface). So, my question #1 is whether this SSD will be okay for my machine or not?If not could You just suggest me another ones that are compatible with it for sure (around the same capacity)? Another but not so important question #2: is it possible that changing the drive manually (no guarantee anymore) will cause the original (with-purchased) Win7 OS not working? Thank You very much for Your response in advance! Best regards,Zsolt László

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

hi Zsolt,

Welcome to the Forums.

I haven't seen anyone used the Kingston 240 GB SSD on the Z570 but it should work as it's a 2.5" drive (ensure that you can return the item though just in case the BIOS doesn't detect it).

Alternatively, you can opt to get another brand like the Samsung Evo as other users have tested it on this unit.

Video:
Samsung SSD on the Z570

As for the OS, Windows should automatically activate itself once you re-install Windows (e.g., From a backup, a recovery disc, or fresh install) but in case it doesn't activate, you will need to activate it by phone.

Hello everyone.  My Ideapad Z570 refuses to show the bios screen after it turns on.  What happens is the power led and media bar will light, but no other activity happens.  It has been diagnosed that the bios chip needs to be re-flashed.  How do you perform an emergency bios recovery on the Z570?  The methods described for the Y560 do NOT work for me, although the laptop tries to access the USB drive when holding fn + R. Any and all help is appreciated, I am avoiding to contact Lenovo since the warranty is expired. (or any tips on negotiating with Lenovo support helps too)

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z570 Bios Recovery

If a BIOS recovery was possible you would need to have a bootable machine to do it.  From your description it sounds like your system is hanging during the boot process.  If that is the case then a defective piece of hardware will prevent the machine from sucessfully booting.  Try removing all hardware items from the laptop such as the hard drive, optical drive, wireless/lan card(s) and memory.  With the memory removed, the machine should at least beep an error code.  If the system shows any sign of life then start re-installing hardware one piece at a time.  Put the memory back in one module at a time and try booting.  If it still shows life then add another piece of hardware.  Keep doing this until the no boot scenario returns.  That should give you an indication of what hardware item is causing the problem.

Hi everyone, I recently reformatted my Lenovo Ideapad Z570 and it seemed to work fine however, there was a major issue in that I couldn't get the wireless to work at home. When I was at home, when I pressed FN+F5, the list of wireless network adapters would appear but it would only be the bluetooth there and the wireless network card wouldn't even appear there. Sometimes when I was away from home, it would appear but I cannot control when it appears.  When it appears I can turn it on allowing me wireless capability and I can use it completely fine until I shut down the laptop. Then when I restart my laptop, the wireless network card doesn't appear in the FN+F5 menu anymore. I think Energy management was automatically turning off my wireless capacity, and so I went to Device Manager and unclicked the box which allowed this automatic turning off of the wireless capacity but I still wasn't able to find the Wireless Netword Card in the FN+F5 menu. Today I tried to fix it but ended up uninstalling LENOVO Energy Management program on my laptop and now its even worse. I have lost the function menus and I can't even see the menus anymore.  Before I reformatted my computer I never had these issues, nor did I even have to turn on and off the wireless capacity, it would just always be on.  I installed the Lenovo Solution Centre and when I run a hardware scan it would have Warning appear under every box for the Intel (R) Centrino(R) Wireless N... Hi,  have a bricked Lenovo Z570 machine that is not able to boot any Windows 7 retail disc or Ubuntu disc (to perform a recovery). My partition table is a mess right now (can not boot anything) and I can not reinstall either since every single disc I try (including Boot Repair) will not boot, crash or hang as with Windows 7 one that hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen. My machine came with a certain BIOS version (can not remember which), l was able to install a retail Windows 7 Pro and dual Ubuntu 12.04 boot (so far, so good) BUT then I had the TERRIBLE idea of updating my BIOS to 45CN38WW and now it seems it will not boot anything!!! I can not even change the boot order in my VERY limited Phoenix SecureCore Tiano BIOS. I have tried everything...Windows XP, Windows 7 (several versions), Ubuntu 11.x, Ubuntu 12.x and Ubuntu 14.x and all of them fail (Ubuntu even complains about a kernel error and reports something related to the BIOS so my guess is that it is the only thing that explains this behavior).I'm looking for an OLD version of the BIOS for this computer, I just need a download link since telephone support agent said to me that the only BIOS available is the one in the Downloads page for the Z570, I really can not believe that there is no other link to previous versions of software components. Thanks for the help

Answer:NEED LENOVO IDEAPAD Z570 OLD BIOS, URGENT

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

After a BIOS update it doesn't hurt to do a reset of the BIOS.  Just do this.........

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

As for obtaining your earlier BIOS version that might not be possible unless someone has it available on the Internet.  Lenovo unfortunately does not have older BIOS versions available, only the latest release.

I bought it last year 8/31/2012, almost 1 month after 1 year warranty, there is a brighter mountain-shaped area like a scar at the bottom, with size of 1 sq in. I think it may be a manufacturing problem, does anyone have the same problem?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 LCD Problem about 1 year.

hi dehongma,

Welcome to the Forums.

The issue that you're having is most likely similar to this thread. If the mountain shaped area is the same as this picture then you may have a case of backlight bleeding  Try to lower down the screen's brightness and see if it helps. Other users in this thread found out that slightly tapping their finger around the backlight bleeding area helps.

If you still get the same problem, you may need to open up the lcd screen and apply some tape on the backlight bleeding area or replace the entire screen.

Hello,I have had my U 400 since May and it has been great until this. I shut my computers lid to make it sleep but I accidently moved.my wireless mouse. I opened it to put it to sleep again when I was greeted with a screen I didn't recognize so I restarted the computer. Now it can not move past the initial Lenovo start screen. It says to press fn+f2 for set up or fn+ f12 for.multiboot. Neither command works. The recover button brings me to this screen as well. What should I do? PS I have Windows 8 if that is important.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad z570 keyboard some keys are not working.

hi Lalit,

Welcome to the Forums.

It's odd that some of the keyboard keys are still not working even after a keyboard replacement (btw, is this replacement keyboard brand new?).

If connecting a USB keyboard works fine then there's most likely a problem with the replacement keyboard or the keyboard connector from the motherboard. In this case, I would first get the replacement keyboard RMA'ed to rule out a bad replacement keyboard. If this doesn't fix it, consider bringing the unit to a local computer repair center for checkup.

Integrated:Intel HD 3000 GraphicsDedicated:NVIDIA GT 540MDescription of issue:Integrated is acting as main even when dedicated should take over (e.g. gaming). This causes problems, unacceptable ones, during gameplay when an intergated GPU just won't cut it. Framerate (with Vertical Sync off) reaches 160~ FPS when idle in-game but when minimal effects appear on screen a huge drop in FPS is witnessed (down to 5-10 FPS). This renders the game (League Of Legends) unplayable despite the low demandings it has. Not an issue of the game, as other more demanding games have same problems. What I've tried:Sorted from common solution to less commonTried setting preffered GPU processor in NVIDIA control panel ---> Manage 3D settings ---> General settings. Option is greyed out and stack at "integrated graphics processor".Tried setting game-specific preferences in NVIDIA control panel. Didn't help at all. Hi So after upgrading to Windows 10 yesterday, I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 as it was a bit laggy. Now after getting the Windows from the Microsoft website and booting from a USB drive, I did a clean install of Windows 10. But after the notification tray loads, the wifi icon has a small red X mark next to it and when I select it, there are no networks being shown. When I go to settings ( Network & Internet ), on the first WiFi tab, it shows Wi-Fi as off and no matter how many times I press it doesn't stay on. I have no idea what is wrong with my laptop or why the setting is stuck on off. The master switch is set at ON. As a complete novice when it comes to these matters, I begging the community here for help as otherwise I won't be able to use my laptop without internet connection. Please help.

Try using another computer to download the drivers for your wireless card onto a flash drive. Once the drivers are downloaded, put the flash drive into your laptop and install the drivers from there. Hopefully this will solve the issue. If you have an Intel WLAN card, you can go to the Intel Download Center and find your product. Alternatively, you can go to the Lenovo product page and find drivers there. Let me know if you need links .

I have an older Ideapad z570, it made a popping sound and it won't power up now either.  I ordered a replacement adapter from lenovo thinking that was the issue as the light on the adapter was not coming on when it was plugged in.

After reading some of these boards, it appears I might have an issue with the mother board.  I would like to see abou getting it replaced, but there are no repair centers close to me, and I cannot find any information on Lenovo's webiste as to who I can contact or where I can send it.
And information to this end would  be greatly appreciated.  Sorry to tack on to this thread, but seemed silly to create another one for the same issue.

Thanks,

If you have a z570 you'll know that they have a switchable graphic system controlled by a switch at the front of the laptop. However, after a repair by KNOWHOW, this switch is gone - they replaced the base plate obviously with the wrong model parts. Is there any way I can bypass this switch and enable my Nvidia card manually? At the moment it's greyed out in the control panel and I can't use it to play any games. This laptop used to have the switch. The Nvidia card in question is GT520M

Answer:want to change compability to AHCI mode in lenovo z570 ideapad

Hi Sushant,

Compatible setting is compatible to IDE host controller mode and a must if you want to e.g. install
Windows XP on your machine,
some time ago I temporary installed Win XP on my IdeaPad Y560p and changed it to compatible,
then going back to Win 7 I forgot to change it back to AHCI mode.

I find absolutely no difference in performance and out of laziness left it set in compatible mode.
If your Z570 works fine, just use it as is, but if there is a performance issue with your machine,
it's a different cause and has nothing to do with AHCI / Compatible settings...
http://www.diffen.com/difference/AHCI_vs_IDE

Regarding Win 8, there are still many problems with upgrading to this brand-new Windows version.
I suggest you to just enjoy your Z570 as is.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Happy computing... Zehn

Hello there!Would somebody be so kind as to tell me how I am able to turn off UEFI mode in BIOS of my Lenovo IdeaPad Z570?(I can see very few things and options in the BIOS menu at the moment.)It's necessary, since I'd like to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium to my computer and during the installation process there is an error message - while choosing the partition where to install the system: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."And I've read somewhere that turning UEFI mode off would solve the problem.By the way, I'd appreciate any other ideas or suggestions to solve this problem.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - MBR/GPT disk problem (or BIOS/UEFU)

There are two solutions for your problem.WARNING! Both the ways that I suggest will ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA ON YOUR HD! If you have anything you want to save, copy it before doing it.First, easy, is to erase all partitions from your disk via windows installation utility. Then, windows will offer you to convert disk to GPT.Or, if windows doesn't do it in this 'automatic' way, you can convert disk to GPT using diskpart. For this, use this manual to access console http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/682-command-prompt-startup.htmlThen, type following commandsdiskpartWait until it loads, and thenLIST DISK <-- this will list currently connected disks, you should determine which of the disks is the one on which you want to install windows and remember its number.SELECT DISK <0> <--you should replace <0> with the number you had on previous stage, in most cases, it would be 0CLEANCONVERT GPTCREATE PARTITION EFI SIZE=200 OFFSET=1024SELECT PARTITION 1FORMAT FS=FAT32 QUICKCREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=<size_for_win_partition_in_megabytes> OFFSET=206848SELECT PARTITION 2FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK That should be all) After this, you should be able to install windows on your hard drive.

Hello everybody,I have a very weird problem with my synaptic touchpad. I've clean install of windows 8 and the newest synaptic drivers because I thought it was a problem from the Windows ( before that i was with windows 7 and it has the same behavior).So... the problem is that both touchpad buttons work like Right button. When I click on the left button it has the same behavior as the right button - the context menu appears and simultaniously it catch the left click. I just want normal click behavior. It is not from the settings of the synaptic driver. There everything seems to be all right  - the left button has the normal click and normal drag setting, and the right click has the context menu and special drag setting but they work absolutely equal. It is very disturbing to work with the touchpad in this way.  Have got any suggestions?Thank you in advance and happy new years eve,Plamen

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 synaptic touch pad buttons problem

hi plamen_yovchev,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

What you can try is to:
1. Boot into Safe Mode (press F8 upon boot-up) and observe, if it works, try to perform a clean boot to isolate if there's a software that's causing the unit to right click..
2. If the problem persist, there's a possible short on the Touchpad. What you can try is:to re-seat the Touchpad and re-arrange the Touchpad cable (see page 1090 on how to remove the Keyboarad Bezel - this will detach the Touchpad board) or check this video as it will show how to detach the whole thing.

If re-seating the touchpad board & touchpad cable doesn't work and If you left click then suddenly the right click context menu pop's up, this could mean a short on the touchpad sensor or the left clicker is touching a part on the motherboard that's causing the issue. Sometimes this happens if the touchpad gets worn out overtime from continuous use and you will need to contact Lenovo for service to get it fixed. Support phone list here.

Hope this helps..

I have decided to upgrade my laptop's Wi-Fi modem to the newer one. So, I have checked the hardware maintenance manual for my laptop for the needed equipment and found out that the best option would be "WLAN card, 802.11a/g/n && 802.16e, Intel 6250NX MOW M PCIE NB HMC" (FRU number: 20002321). So, I have purchased this WLAN card and after the hardware installation BIOS started to display "104-unsupported network device detected" error. Even though I have upgraded BIOS to the latest available version. It would be great to have some explanation about the hardware compatibility. Otherwise it seems that I have just wasted my money on incompatible hardware.

My Windows 7 basically blew up and is no longer working. I tried a one-key recovery as well which utterly failed. As a last resort I tried using Windows 7 recovery disks sent by Lenovo. There are 4 disks 1,2,3, and an additional disk. Everything seemed to be going somewhat smoothly, although slow up until disk 3. The screen shows

"Current Item: ApplyOs" "Recover process is running please don't remove your power adapter."

It's been like this for days. The blue bar load bar under it seems to still be running. Tried again, this time with 4 different disks sent by Lenovo. The first 3 disks went a bit faster, but the end result was still the same, getting stuck on "ApplyOs". Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

This happened about 2hrs ago with my B520. Was working perfectly fine before this. Performed Microsoft updates as suggested, system prompted a re-boot to complete installation, system never came back completely. Only begins to boot and stops at the Lenovo splash screen at the very initial stage of boot. It never moves beyond the Lenovo Screen even after holding the power button and forcing shut-down.  Someone please help!! Thanks.

Answer:Ideacentre B520 won't boot past Lenovo splash screen after windows updates

First try and see if it's not a lenovo little bug that happens to a lot people: Disconnect the pc from power for like 5 minutes or longer.  Then try to boot, see if it works again.if it doesn't boot as normal yet , still let it be for at least 20 or 30 minutes to see if it boots after that.

Hi all, Am looking to reinstall the OS for an old Lenovo IdeaPad for a friend of the family. But it is an old installation, and, when I try to download the ISO from Windows using the product key and S/N, I'm told: "the product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer." When I go to Lenovo, the customer support number did not call me back. Looking through the docs, I am less optimistic that there is a supported way to do this. Has anyone gone through this and can offer any advice? Thank you,Patty

I have bought this laptop - Lenovo Z570 - few months ago (in April) only to find that apart from 2 dead pixels, the Copper Metallic covering and the screws at the back side of the laptop has started coming off, here are few pics of the what is happening. Link to picture Link to picture Link to picture Its really looking ugly, and now I always try to avoid touching this particular region as whenever I touch it, more of this copper metallic polish withers off. It's still in the warranty period and when I had a little chat with one of customer care representative (online) - Sameer Bhan - I was told that this is covered under warranty and I can call at the toll free number to register my request, and so I did. After two days someone from lenovo came at my place told me that its a genuine problem and its not a physical damage, and in order to make sure he can help me out, he took these pics and told that he'll forward these pics to lenovo center to ensure that it is really covered under warrenty. And today I got a call from one of the local lenovo service center that this problem isn't covered under warranty.  So are these people only interested in playing with their customers!!Can anyone on this forum please tell me that is it really covered under warranty or not? What should I do now? Seems like a hardware issue but can't seem to get this laptop to boot at all. On startup it hangs at the Lenovo logo screen. Have tried booting to a Windows 8 recovery flashdrive and it starts to load it and eventually goes to a black screen. I was able to boot to an older Hiren's boot cd setup and run a memory test from the cmd line(passed) and also tried to run mini xp and it seemed to only load the background for some reason.. Haven't had a whole lot of time to take a look at it but any ideas I could try out? - Thanks

All my problems started after attempting to upgrade to Windows 8.1.  My Ideapad crashed during installation and upon restarting, the Lenovo startup screen was displayed with a white circle that stated "updating" and gave a percentage number.  This number never got to 100 percent as the computer always crashed.  Somehow I was able to get Windows to start back up at Windows 8, but when I did I would get a black screen with a blue square stating Boot Device Not Found.  This would happen every 1-3 times I started the Ideapad.  Now since 2 months have passed, it happens Sometimes the Ideapad will boot, but more likely than not after going through the enter password screen in Windows  to 8, the screen display will be shrunk by 15%.  Is it booting in safe mode?  When it does this and actually boots, I have had enough time to backup all my files on an external hard drive in case I need to do a refresh or reset everything back to factory mode. At this point should I reset everything back to factory mode and test if the problem is the same? When I got the Ideapad, all I wanted was for a Laptop that would turn on reliably so that I can browse the internet and write my work in Microsoft Word.  What I got is a piece of junk that can no longer start right.  I purchased the Yoga Ideapad 13 months ago and my warranty expired.  How much does a new warranty cost?  I am thinking of getting a better laptop because I don't... Answer:Lenovo z570 boot mode = UEFI ?

hi cisserkan,

Welcome to the Forums.

I looked into the Z570's BIOS and compared it to the image that you linked and verified that this unit uses legacy settings in its BIOS and doesn't have a UEFI feature.

In this case, you can still install Windows 10 but it's on legacy mode (which should be fine) but take note though that the Z570 isn't officially supported so you may need to hunt down the drivers manually.

Recently I am facing issue with my Z570 where I start the ideapad just black sceen appears nothing display on the screen. Can anyone help me out here

Answer:Lenovo Z570 not booting and black screen

hi mgoparaju

If you're getting No Display during POST, try to check if there's an HDD light activity or startup sounds when Windows loads up or if there's a change that you can see an image on the screen (by using a flashlight).

If there's sound / hdd activity but no display, try connecting an external monitor via the VGA/HDMI port and observe.

If there's no HDD activity / no sound / no image on the screen, try to:
1. Pwer off the machine, remove the AC adapter and battery then hold the power for 30secs. When finished, plugin the AC adapter and turning on the machine.

2. If same problem, reseat the RAM.
  - see page 41 of the Z570 hardware maintenance manual for instructions or
  - check this Z570 disassembly video

If all of the above steps doesn't work, I recommend you contact lenovo (for service) or a professional computer repair store as there's likely an internal component that needs to be replaced.

As per your concern unable to boot the system, I would suggest you to please perform the following steps.

1. Please remove the power cable as well as battery.
2. Now press the power button for 20 seconds.
3. Re-fix the battery and then plug-in power adapter.

Now check the display appears, if the issue still persists then it needs a personal assistance of the service technician.

Hello, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad and I am missing a feature that my previous MacBook had. Opening the lid on this laptop does nothing, I have to physically push the Power Button for it to wake up. Is there a way for me to turn on the feature to wake when opening? I have gone through Power Management and the Devices/Hardware and have not seen that setting. Only comments related are that I can have it do something when closing. The ACPI lid driver is from the beginning of time, 2006, I am surprised since this laptop is just a few days old that there is such an old driver still being used. Is there something there?

Recently i bought a Lenovo y500 laptop with 12 ram and 16gigs of SSD. It came with Windows 8 by deffault and what i wanted was to install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 alognside with the Windows 8. It didn't work out, because i could only log into linux. When i tried to log in in Widonws it said: "unknown command drivemap      invalid EFI file path, so i used the one key recovery. It loaded Windows but i noticed 2 things:1st. After loading the Lenovo logo the screen turns black without the cursor on it and stays that way for about 17-25 sec. That means that from 20 sec boot time now it is 40+.How could i fix that one?2nd. After creating the backup i divided the 1tb disk into smaller discs and after the rocovery they were the way i left them with all the games and media on them. I thought that the one key recovery would undo the partiton i have made. The 2nd one isnt bugging me out so much but the 20 secs extra boot time do. The changes i have made in bios are disabling secure boot and switching boot mode from UEFI to legacy. After that i switched secure boot to enabled and the boot mode to UEFI as it was in the beginning.

Answer:Lenovo y500 black screen after the lenovo logo slows down boot time

hi psskobraa,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1. The additional 17-25sec boot time is probably caused by the UEFI Firmware / UEFI boot loader (see this flowchart) - this probably got modified when you installed Ubuntu. Can you try to boot back into the BIOS, press F9 to load default settings then press F10 to save It settings. If this doesn't work, is the boot time the same when Disabling Secure Boot and UEFI set to Disabled/Legacy first?

2. OneKey Recovery usually reimage the OS partition only (i.e. C:\) and will not affect any other partitions (i.e. D:\)

Im sure this is a common issue but my programs in Windows 7 will not open after initial start up. The computer boots up into Windows 7 just fine and everything appears in order. However, if I open any program such as Google chrome or a game, it will not open at all and does not display an error message. Sometimes if I quickly open a program while the computer is still opening programs, it may open briefly but sometimes freeze. I am assuming it is a conflicting driver issue or program but no new hardware was installed.
This recently all started happening for no real reason as I had not downloaded or installed any hardware or programs when this happened.

Everything seems to work better in safe mode (although occasionally, some programs will also not boot up). I've tried all the usual options such as a clean boot (did not work at all), system restore (also didn't solve the issue), tried Repair in the boot up, tried opening msconfig, and also tried running Malwarebytes and anti-virus software in safe mode and so far nothing has been detected.
Im not sure if it is a driver issue as everything seems updated and the laptop is relatively new and hardly ever used with only a few installed programs since its purchase. I am running the laptop just fine in safe mode for the most part and can figure out what to do next.
Also, since the laptop was store bought, I don't have a Windows 7 install disc to re-install Windows. It was preloaded.

Im all out of options at this point. ... Read more

Hello everyone. I've been given a Lenovo Z570 laptop with little background information other than the fact that it refuses to boot. A clean install is not an option at this point due to the personal information on the laptop. When I turn on the laptop, it displays the Lenovo sign, then boots into a screen that says Windows Error Recovery. I've been working through the troubleshooting guide here with little to no luck. Here is what I encountered on each step:

1. Using "Last Known Good Configuration" results in a black screen that does not go away or change.

2. Using "Repair your computer" under Advanced Boot Options leads to a black screen. If I try using a Windows installation disk, the screen hangs on the initial "Setup is starting" screen indefinitely. Using a repair disk gets farther- it lets me choose some settings, but then hangs on a screen that says "Searching for Windows Installations". I'm not sure what a UEFI install is but I assume my hard disk is not UEFI because I did not see any options in the BIOS

Edit: I'm sure that the installation disk is not corrupted: tried running it in another Windows 7 laptop and it loaded without problems.

3. The hard drive is still detected in BIOS set up

4. Trying the System Restore leads to a black screen

5. As mentioned above, the repair disk hangs on "Searching for Windows Installations"

7. Booting into Safe Mode with Networking leads to a black screen

8. Not available,... Read more

Hey everyone. Basically I had installed windows 10 and was stuck on the screen with the spinning dots. I ended up getting in stuck in the "preparing to fix windows" problem. So I just reinstalled Windows 7 using (I think?) the backup. I dont have a windows 7 disk. Well it worked perfectly and then I turned it off to go to bed. The next day it wont get past the lenovo screen that starts immediately. it goes to a black page with a blinking typing indicator, but immediately restarts to the lenovo screen again. It never gets to the "preparing windows" stages. I tried looking it up and tried so many random things. Laptop: Lenovo thinkpad t-61 2gb of ram. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello,
since my next of kin's Lenovo Z570 (with Windows 7 HP x64) started to work very slowly I decided to restore it to its factory settings, I decided to use OneKey Recovery -  everything seemed to be easy. OneKey Recovery started running, to crash after some seconds (with 0% progress ). The only option to choose was to confirm it - computer restarted, but instead of Windows loading screen, I got Windows Boot Manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause (...)" I didn't have Windows installation disk nor Windows Recovery/Repair Disk. I decieded to download plain copy of Windows 7 to repair system. I burned DVD with Windows 7, clicked Repair your computer. When it finished its work it said to try to reboot computer, because probalby the problem had been solved. Unfortunatelly, I still got Windows Boot Manager instead of Windows loading screen.I came back to "Repair your computer", but now it said "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. (...)". So I decided to install Windows from the DVD - believing that this will end all of my problems. But when Windows asked me where do I want to install Windows, showed me partitions and I chose one - Windows said that it cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1, because I had selected a disk with MBR partition table - and Windows demanded GPT disk. On a forum somebody wrote that I have to ma... Read more

You stated that the unit has Win 7 HP x64. Is this the pre-installed OS for the unit?
