Windows update is not working in Windows 7 Professional. Error code 8024402F

Question: Windows update is not working in Windows 7 Professional. Error code 8024402F

hi,

My OS is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, Unable to update any file from windows update. Same error code 8024402F occurs and Windows could not search for new updates.

Whereas my internet connection is working fine and i able to browse and download from internet.

Also tried Microsoft Fix it and it says Repair windows update components. After applying it still same error occurs.

Even disabled AVG Internet Security 2012 and still same problem.

Here is the log detail from windowsupdate.log

Preferred Solution: Windows update is not working in Windows 7 Professional. Error code 8024402F

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there... I have not been able to do a Windows Update on my PC since the past two or three weeks I think... I get an error that says "Windows Update error code 8024402F".

I have tried a lot of things... checked all the posts possible.. here is the list

1. Followed the windows troubleshooter... no success
2. Changed the date settings to system time.. no success
3. Ran a sfc /scannow... not detected anything... no success
4. Reformatted my PC and tried again... no success
5. Disabled all the antivirus programs and ran malwarebytes to check for any malicious software... no success

Does anyone have a resolution for this... I would really appreciate it... because its become really frustrating right now...

Many thanks... Watiing for a quick response.

Hi. I think I have replaced my original windows 8.1 64 with a fake one. The scenario of what I did is given below:
I purchased a hp laptop with original windows 8.1 64 preinstalled. I download Microsoft office with toolkit from torrent because I did not want to buy ms office. First I installed the office setup.exe as per instructions. Then I opened the Microsoft toolkit. I had no idea how to use it. I pressed the windows logo instead of the office logo. Then I selected windows 8.1 and I clicked activate, backup, check, check status, etc. I had no idea what I was doing. Now I think I replaced my original windows 8.1 64 with a fake one. I cannot update my windows and it is showing error code 8024402F. Please help me on what to do now. I want my original windows back.

Hi everyone,

since round about 2 weeks I'm facing the following problem:
I've realized the problem by accident, because Avast told me to update my Flashplayer and redirected me to Windows Updates -> after searching for updates for a few seconds, the following error code appears: Cannot search for updates - error code 8024402F.

Now this is what I've tried in the past 2 weeks to solve the problem, but apparently without success :

Microsoft Fix itFRST Scan to exclude any malware behaviourautomatical windows trouble shootingdouble checked if any internet settings have changed (Proxy or smth.)windows repair (tweaking)sfc scannow while system is runningsfc scannow at boot (using your tutorial which is great btw.) 3 times with restarts in betweendism check health / scan health / restore healtheven tried to do a "refresh" of the system, but that's simply not possible - it comes with an error but no error code and no way how to fix it

Looking at the sfc scan, there is a component, which cannot be repaired by windows (see logfile of sfc below). Apparently I don't have an image backup to adjust the corrupted file

I hope you guys can help me, and I hope the solution is not reseting windows, because I cannot get rid of the feeling, that it's just a minor thing to repair, but I simply just don't see it.

Short info to the system I use:
Windows 8.1 (bought as windows 8 one year ago and then upgraded to win 8.1)
I'm using Avast as an AV and windows firewall.

Are you getting Code 8024402F when you try to download? I get that still when I manually check for updates sometimes, but after a few tries it catches. You can also go here to microsoft support and try the windows automated update troubleshooter. Also try here too. If they don't help open notepad and copy and paste thisCode:

Dear Sir/Madam,

How are you? My Windows 7 update function does not work and shows error code 8024402f. To deal with this problem I followed instructions at URL Windows Update Posting Instructions.

1: Firstly, I downloaded System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2014] windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe at URL Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center. Then, I ran this tool.

2: After that, I ran command "sfc /scannow" in cmd as administrator within folder C:\Windows\System32. The execution finished without problems.

3: As final step I compressed the files in folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. Due to file size I used 7zip to split the archive in two files CBS.zip.001 and CBS.zip.002. But given the file extension restrictions I re-named those files as CBS.zip.001.zip and CBS.zip.002.zip, respectively, and I attached them to this post.

If possible could you please give me some insight to deal with this update error. Thank you very much. Your help is much appreciated.

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop that I am getting very frustrated with. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. My son had this laptop origianlly and got so frustrated he just stuck in the top of his closet for a few years. Now I'm needing
a computer and he gave me the laptop. I have researched and done so many different things I'm ready to pull my hair out. I decided to make sure everything was backed up and ran the eRecovery Program on here from Acer back to the Factory Default settings. I
have uninstalled the McAfee Security Suite and added VIPRE Antivirus Home. I also uninstalled Bing Bar (I have no use for it), newsXpresso (no use for it), Norton Online Backup, Times Reader. I tried to do a manual update for Windows and I'm still getting
that error code. Please help.

Hello! Good evening, morning, noon to you!
I have a problem that quite happened 3 days passed.
Like what the title says, "Code 8024402F in Windows Update"

Every once and awhile.. I check for updates for my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
3 days ago.. This error appeared..
Options I tried
-Troubleshooting with Windows
-Searching the net (Over and over again)
-Did what the net says (Like removing third party firewalls, stopping processes that eat up connection or interfere with the connection for Win update, troubleshooting and etc)
-Still quite didn't work
-I reformat my PC.. And back to Home Premium 64 bit. Still the error is there..
-Upgraded again to Ultimate.. {Still no dice}
-Quite did some exploring in this forum and still no dice
~After the reformat, I activated my Windows x64 HP (No other programs were installed including anti-virus progs), Error persist.. Upgraded to Ultimate x64 (Still no programs installed), still the error stays.~

Overall of that I got frustrated... So Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Guys. I have been experiencing this issue for some time. At first I ignored it but I would really like to get it resolved. My issue is pretty much identical to the issue found here: Windows 7 Professional 64bit Update Error Code 8007370B Basically I receive the above error code when I try to check for updates, it happens almost instantly after I click the button. I also get 2 updates (KB2709715 & KB2679255 Shown in attachment) that constantly install every time I shut down my machine, I have tried using various windows update fix tools but all have ceased to fix my issue. I am pretty stuck now, i have followed the instructions in the previous thread but it looks like it is out of my knowledge base.

I've been having a problem updating my windows 7 professional 64bit for a while (Code 8007370B). I have tried to use microsoft fix it, the SURT, the SFC Scan all to no help. Reading the other posts, I believe it is a "bitflop" that Tom982 mentioned. Anyways, here are the files requested in the Windows Update Posting Instructions.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Windows 7 Professional Security Update failure (Error Code 80000ffff)

.NET 3.5 is part ofWindows 7 - so we can't use the usual trick of uninstalling/cleaning it out.

There are a mass of what appear to be simple download failures in the update log file - but nothing informative in the CBS.log file
These failures relate to updates as early as KB2862973.

Please run the CheckSUR tool, and post the CheckSUR.log file

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

Hi All,

First post on here so please be easy on me I've receiving the above error when I try to retrieve updates thru Windows Update. I am able to connect to the website fine, and it will invoke the WU applet. This has been happening for about a month now, and I've been trying various things I could find (for both 7 and Vista). I have not installed the latest beta builds since I'm running this as my primary desktop OS at home (for testing, so far it's got me sold...tons better than Vista) and don't want to spend a day re-installing everything. Details of the PC:

OS: Windows 7 64-bit build 7000
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 @ 2.7 GHz
RAM: 4 GB DDR 2
Chassis: Shuttle SN78SH7
Chipset: nVidia nForce 8200
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 9800 GT (PCIx)

LG Super-Multi SATA CD/DVD burner (don't know model # off the top of my head)
WEI: 5.9 (7.9 on graphics, everything else is 5.9)
Windows is activated
Not sure if any other hardware/software is relevent...if it is please let me know. Also, this just randomly started happening, I have not been able to trace it back to any specific event/configuration change.

What I have done so far:
-Added both incoming and outgoing Windows Firewall exceptions for wuapp.exe
-Set both Windows Updates and Windows Defender services to Startup Automatic (removed delay)
-Disabled anti-virus (running AVG Free 8.0.238)
-Checked Windows CA certificates (seemed fine)

I just bought a new desktop computer. Did a fresh raw install of Windows 7 OEM onto a blank hard drive. The computer is connected directly to my modem. I have an internet connection and have no issue loading most sites.
I'm clearly having some kind of connection issue, but I can't figure it out. Windows Update keeps giving me error 8024402F, which is related to the comp. not reaching the update servers. This seems to be a larger problem though. I can't update my steam account or connect to the steam network. On top of that, some websites won't load, particularly microsoft sites. They just time out. I have seen a few errors in the event log about finding the master browser. Not sure if that's related.
I've tried running the microsoft fix it in aggressive mode and run the network troubleshooting application. Both fix any issues they find, but I keep having the same issues.
I just ran the MGA diagnostic. Here's the report:

Before you continue, make sure that you have the installation CDs or downloaded installation files for any Norton products that you want to reinstall. Hello all:
Recently I had quite the go at the PC in my specs description. I'm getting ready to sell it, and the customer wanted 8.1 installed. I've managed to get it installed, and bypassed the activation errors I was getting by using the phone activation process, however, I am unable to update Windows.
I ran he MS troubleshooter for Windows Updates, and it said that it fixed the issues, but as we all know, those FixIt's rarely work. I get Error 8024402F, and I've not found any way around it.

Troubleshooting so far:

1) Disabled Windows Firewall
2) Attempted to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder, no luck. Even after stopping BITS and Wuausrv it still says access denied.
3) Ran the FixIt from MS, no luck
4) Synced with time.nist.gov for up to date time sync
5) Did a clean boot, just in case, and still have the same issue.

As always, my system specs are listed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello guys,

I don't know what's going on with my computer, I started to get this error suddenly! tried to do couple of tips in order to solve it but couldn't. What I did lastly, I formatted my PC, I didn't install any software after I installed the windows, what I did I started to update my OS which is Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit till I've got into Windows Vista Service Pack 2. Just after the windows SP2 update has finished, I restarted my PC and whenever I try to search or look for new updates I get this error 8024402F!

I tried multiple ways to solve it such as sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r /f , System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) [May 2012], I didn't touch firewall since I don't have an anti-virus software installed yet!

May I get assistance please!!

Answer:windows update error 8024402f

This issue can be caused by the following factors:

1. The Windows Update service has been stopped.
2. Corrupted Windows Update Temporary folder.

In order to narrow down the cause of this issue and resolve it, please refer to the following steps. After finishing each step, please check the result again on the Windows Update website.

NOTE: Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try accessing Windows Update later. Please understand that we are disabling these programs only for the purpose of troubleshooting and we can re-enable these programs after we finish troubleshooting.

Step 1: Verify the relevant Windows Update services
=======================================
1. Click the Start Button, in Start Search box, type: "services.msc" (without quotes) and press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Double click the service "Windows Update".
3. Click on the "General" tab; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic" or "Manual". Then please click the "Start" button under "Service Status" to start the service.

I have a crazy issue going on and I'm pretty much at my wits end trying to figure out what the issue is.

I have a custom built desktop running Windows 8 x64 and a Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop that I have upgraded to Windows 8 x64 as well. Both are running different purchased, 100% legal copies of Windows 8.

The issue started when I decided to reformat my desktop (which I do fairly frequently - once or twice a year usually as I'm extremely OCD about keeping things clean) and reinstall everything. Upon reinstallation of Windows 8, I tried to perform Windows Updates and received an 8024402F error message. I scoured Google trying to find answers to my problem and did everything from restarting the BITS and update services, running the Microsoft FixIts, etc, but nothing seemed to fix the issue. I also did a malware scan with MalwareBytes and a system file check - both of which came up with nothing.

I decided something must have gotten corrupt with the OS. Reformatted and reinstalled again. Same issue. Thought it may be a failing hard disk. Tried installing it on another hard drive. Same issue.

Attempted to perform updates on my laptop to see if Windows Updates were down or something - they worked fine. Decided to take a gamble and reformatted my laptop as well with its copy of Windows 8 to see if the desktop Windows 8 copy had been scratched or damaged somehow and hoped that would be the issue. Upon completion of the laptop reinstall, I received the exact same error code I got ... Read more

Anyone know how to fix this error. (Windows 8 Update Error 8024402F) I have done everything that I can find on Google. The MS tech support is even stumped on the problem. I know MS tech support is most likely a joke. I was really hoping to be able to change to windows 8.1 for BF4 but it is looking like I might have to go back to Windows 7. The error sounds like Windows update is having problems connecting to the server. I have disabled windows firewall. I even plugged my PC right into the modem to make sure my router wasn't the problem. I have done everything with disabling and re enabling windows update. Any ideas would be great.

My client's Win 7 64 bit desktop PC will not run"Windows Update".... Can't say when this quit working.. possibly in the last 1-2 months... I now get the red "x" and error message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running"... when I try to start it in "services", I get "system Error 5"....

Also, the downloading using E 11 doesn't work,,, get the message "xxxxx contained a virus and was deleted".... I have scanned the PC with combofix, Malwarebytes, Rougue Killer, and others, and nothing is found. Downloads work fine with Google Chrome..

Finally, I also see "windows defender" is now missing from this system.

Not sure if any of these are related, but need to get Windows Update working again

Any suggestions on how to get Windows Update working again? This PC is out of use by my client until I get this resolved.

Hello. Recently many computers on our network are unable to search for new updates. We keep getting error code 8024402F and it says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error."

We use Trend Micro Antivirus 7 (SP 1) and do not have the Firewall enabled. I've already tried disabling it, as well as adding the Windows Update URL's to the URL Filter, but no change.

I sent a ping to update.microsoft.com and they all timed out, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

I am not quite sure how to handle this and they were all working just a few weeks ago. I've already tried the FixIt solution and resetting the Windows Update components. Here is a part from the WindowsUpdate.log file:

I note the date on this report is from a while ago - or your clock is off.
Check that the time/date/region on the affected machines is correct before doing anything else

Answer:Solved: Cannot fix error code 8024402f

Hello Everyone at Tech support. after 5 days struggling to get a fix on error code 8024402f, I finally got my windows update running again. I'm writing this to see if it can help others with this same problem. Here is the thread i read from another site:
Hi,
I had same problem with Out of the Box PCs.
After Installing KB982670 I got Error Code8024402F.
Solution:
Installed a VPN client like Anchor Free Hotspot Shield.
Tried Updates and it worked.
After this point, I removed VPN and the updates are still working as normal PC.
Best Regards,
Raj Sekar
My Thanks go out to Raj Sekar because i tried what he suggested and it worked for me. So i decided to give this input for all others whom cannot find a solution to the 8024402f problem and hopefully it will help you as well(Fingers crossed). Instructions:
1. Download Hotspot shield thru google (or your browser).
2. I selected the free version of the download (the free version has ads that show up about buying full version. just ignore and close pages)
3. when finally installed just click the begin button from the program and that's it.
4. go to windows update and see if it now works
5. install all updates
6. After all is done you can either keep the program (hotspot shield) or just uninstall it from your system.

7. Uninstall thru control panel and select programs and features.
8. That's it.

Although i had to download the program on 3 computers in my home it worked for all three. Hopefully it can work for oth... Read more

I tried to reinstall windows 7 after installing my new Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 mainboard, but the process stops at 1-2% and throws the 0x8007045D
Error message. I quick formatted and repartitionated the HDD. Still the same error. I tried again after low formatting the HDD with partition wizard,
repartitionated again, still getting Error 0x8007045D.

Also updated my bios, ran chkdsk and partition wizards sector check, which both say the HDD is fine, installed xubuntu and archlinux without any problem, reformatted and repartitioned again, changed my SATA-Controller in BIOS from AHCI to IDE, took out 1 RAM module, tried win 7 professional 64-bit without SP1 and win 7 prof. 32-bit. I ran the Installation Disk in both, UEFI and normal mode (of course with gpt partition table in uefi mode and mbr in normal mode), tried different SATA connectors and cables and burned and tried every single iso at least twice (with different programs).

I'm still getting Error 0x8007045D with every single setup I try.

System Specs:

Mainboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 with BIOS Version 1602
Previous Mainboard: Asrock N68C-S UCC

Answer:Error code 0x8007045D during Windows 7 Professional x64 Installation

Hi,

You covered a lot, so the only thing I can think of is to take the CD/DVD drive out of the equation (although I note you did install a Linux distro using that, in addition to PW).

Download the appropriate Windows 7 ISO here, then use this tool to write it to a 4GB USB flash drive, which also makes it bootable. Insert the drive into a USB2.0 port, and then boot from that and try the installation.

The error is usually an I/O error....although I don't know why you should be able to install a Linux distro and not Windows. Did you install all the motherboard drivers prior to attempting to install Windows 7?

When I try to update windows, I get the above error. I can the run the troubleshooter, which starts and stops Bits and CrytSvc, and fixes potential error 80070490, and "Windows Updates Components must be repaired"

Hi there,
I'm noticing a few issues. In order of appearance:
1. Many websites stopped displaying correctly. I have a feeling this has something to due with Javascript (not Java). Dynamic (?) content is gone in both Firefox 19.02 and IE 8. Hotmail fails to login. When attempting to redownload FF, the webpage does not actually give me the option: the header (three images and Tour | Desktop | Mobile | Add-ons | Support | About) and footer (privacy policy | Legal notices) are there, but everything in between is missing. Here's the page I'm refering to: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-19.0.2&os=win&lang=en-US
2. Windows update throws an error: 8024402F
3. M$ Mouse & Keyboard center fails to load. I get a popup (multiple times in a row) telling me to reinstall it. I have an old sidewinder mouse, but I can't say I've ever used that piece of software.
4. The wireless icon no longer shows up.
The only thing that's changed was that I installed Skype. It has since been removed.
Comodo & MBAM show no issues. This is a desktop PC, W7 x64.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, I ran the programs and obtained the logs asked for in the sticky but I'm not posting them here. Why? Because this applet thingy to post messages isn't working right (in BOTH browsers) and it's ignoring line breaks unless I use HTML tags. And I'll be damned if I'm going through those logs to add a BR tag t... Read more

So after a fresh install of Windows 8 I am having a problem getting windows to update. I keep on getting the error 8024402F. I have tried everything that I can find after doing a google search. Nothing is working. I even call MS support and the lady had to move the ticket up to tech lvl 2. I have no clue what is causing this. All i wanted to do is to test out Windows 8.1 and see if i wanted to move from 7 to 8. Like I said this is on a fresh install. Windows shows that it is active under system settings. I have added a Windows update log file to the post. If anyone has any info to help out that would be great.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to update my Sony VAIO Flip 13 (SVF13N17PXB) with Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. During the installation process (Installing features and drivers part) I get stock on 6% of "features and driver installation" (for like a good 30 min). Then installation get stock on 71% (overall % completion), a time at which I get a BSOD (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE).
After the restart (rolling back to Windows 8.1 of course), I get a windows update error: C1900101-40017.
I suspect this is a driver issue, does anyone have this same problem and knows what might be causing this issue (I successfully updated my Sony VAIO DUO 11 in ~20 minutes with no problem, and my drivers and Windows updates in that computer were really out of date so I don't know what the issue might be).
Thanks everyone beforehand

I'm using Windows 7 RC. I did not upgrade it was a clean install.

Whenever I try to update my computer via Windows Update, it gives me the error code in the title of this thread. This happened *before* I even installed anti-virus, and after as well.

My internet connection is working flawlessly via cable, not wireless. I've tried about 5 or 6 times over a period of 6 or 7 hours.

Same thing happened to me last week. I ended up backing up my important files and doing a fresh install of Windows. It was quicker and easier than all the work I put into trying to repair it.

Hi. I think I have replaced my original windows 8.1 64 with a fake one. The scenario of what I did is given below: I purchased a hp laptop with original windows 8.1 64 preinstalled.

Answer:Why am I getting update error 8024402F (Windoes 8.1)?

Run the windows trouble shooter.
Try to set you OS back to a date before you started this "mess".
Reinstall the recovery back up you made when you got your laptop.

I've just restored my Asus Eee PC and proceeded to install the available updates. This it did, until I got the above error message and the text Windows Update encountered an unknown error. As I hadn't installed anything, I restored and tried again. Same thing happened. I did notice, however, that the last update it installed was the .NET Framework 4 Client, so I uninstalled that and voila, updates were back offering me that which I had just uninstalled.

I then downloaded and installed the standalone version of .Net Framework 4, and unfortunately got the same resultant Update error message. Again, uninstalling it restored update functionality. Note that the standalone installs both Extended and Client, and they need to be uninstalled separately (Extended first, followed by Client).

Needless to say, I set that update (KB982670) as Hidden so that I don't get offered it again. It would seem that there is a serious issue with .NET Framework 4 and Windows Updates on some systems, my Asus Eee PC being one of them, because removing that program restored Update functionality.

Answer:Update issues and Error 8024402F

Do you actually need .NET 4? if not then don't install it
If you do need it, try installing the Redist version, rather than the client version....

cross-post from the SuperUser StackExchange site.  Apparently, because I'm a new user of this forum, I do not have permission yet to post links, so have removed all links I have included in the original post.  I've identified the removed links in
bold, italics, and underlined below.
I've recently started experiencing some issues with a couple of workstations on my network getting the above-mentioned errors
when trying to check for and download updates for Windows 7 (x64). Sometimes I get the 8024402F error, and sometimes I get the 80072EFE error. I've attempted to resolve the problem myself through liberal
use of Google-fu, but I've been unable to find anything yet that will allow these computers to check for updates.
Other workstations including my own do not seem to be experiencing any problems checking for, downloading, or installing updates.
The affected workstations do not appear to have any other network/Internet-related issues, as far as I can tell. The problem only seems to be with checking for Windows updates. All of the workstations on the network have the same basic configuration when it
comes to AV software scanning and security.
For now, I'm just working on one of the (apparently) three computers on my network that are having the problem because it's
a computer that isn't actively in use for production at the moment.

I brought my computer as a windows 7 computer and i upgraded all the way up to windows 8.1 before i got a virus. I had to order some dvds which worked but the updating process stopped at 99%. I let the updating process update for about 10 hours and it was still stuck.

So i took the dvd out and it got me to the startup services screen where it got stuck. So i changed a registry line and it worked! I got all my files back but now i can't upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10. Can i get some help?

I just sat down to my mother's brand new laptop (brand new as of 8 weeks ago anyway) to find there was a counterfeit message on the screen. I did some quick troubleshooting but everything I tried doesn't work. It got to the point that the links I was Googling were turning purple, coming up with little insight on where to go with it. I installed some hot fixes and whatnot, no dice. I also cleared out the downloads and datastore folder (or something) as per some of Microsoft's instructions. There again, no dice. Upon reboot, it gives you the opportunity to enter the key. I entered the key underneath the laptop, but it still said it was counterfeit. I'd like to reiterate... it's not counterfeit. It's the default OEM install that came on it. Computer is an Asus laptop.

I was just preparing to dual boot this laptop too, as my mother preferred to use Ubuntu on her last dual boot laptop but I kept Windows around in case she ever needed it. That said, it doesn't fix the Windows issue at hand that I'd like to figure out so the partition is fully functioning and good to use. Anybody have any insight?

Just built a new gaming pc myself, all new parts, first build so maybe there's something I'm not doing right. But I was following this guide for windows 8.1 installation However I decided not to do any of those tweaks under "System Setup after Installation" I just skipped to installing drivers so it's a pretty normal installation. That's just extra information, probably not relevant.

Installed windows 8.1 OEM.

Installed my drivers and I connected to internet but when I try to check for windows updates I get this error

Code: 80072EE2

Looked online for a solution, found one on windows website. I then downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic from another PC and ran it on the PC i'm having issues with, it fixed something but I still can't update.

I also can't open a webpage using internet explorer even thought I'm connected to the internet. When I type any address it just loads "waiting for ..."
I've also noticed that windows is not activated when I try to activate it I get "Windows can't activate. Try again later."

Don't know if relevant but I actually installed Windows the first two times incorrectly, I mean it installed fine but I was trying to install on a GPT formatted SSD (used diskpart with command prompt at windows install window to clean and convert to GPT) but even though I formatted with GPT I kept ending up with a MBR formatted SSD. Hi,

For a while I have been having problems updating Windows 7 Home Premium x64 using Windows Update, getting the Error Code 80246008 (please ?Error Code 80246008? pic attached).

I decided to investigate this and found this Microsoft page:
Windows Update error 80246008 - Windows Help

Tried to start BITS but got the Error Code 2147024894 (please see ?BITS start error? pic attached)
I then downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab and ran it.

Tried first to troubleshoot and repair BITS but also some error messages surfaced (please see ?BITS troubleshooting errors? pic attached)

Then tried to troubleshoot and repair Windows Update but also got error messages (please see ?Windows Update Troubleshooting errors? pic attached)

Yesterday I did also a partial re-installation of the OS (only key files), using the OS image that came pre-installed with the laptop. This did not work. (I did a fresh reinstall of the OS just some 3 weeks ago to get rid of all the little bugs that had accumulated so far, which makes this situation a bit more frustrating).

Since none of these things helped I did what you state on the Windows Update Posting page:
1 ? Ran the SURT from the Desktop and it seemed to install a file. (please see ?Hotfix for Windows message? pic attached). It took about 20 mins or so to do it.
2 ? Did a sfc /scannow from command prompt, logged in as admin. (please see ?sfc scannow check results? pic attached)

Hi,

the Update above won't install on my machine. I tried several fixes - Microsoft FixIt, complete deinstallation - but nothing helps. Everything thing else (updates) works fine, after the deinstallation of Microsoft .NET Framework the Microsoft Security Essentials Update popped up (didn't before, but I did simultaneously remove my Avast! AV)

1. I have tried to run the System Readiness Tool - error 0x8007000d. (Try to fix that atm with Microsoft help routine)

2. Did run several sfc /scannow, it reports some corrupted system files that it cannot fix and I had to run it 3 times before reaching 100%, due to holds. CBS Log is attached.

P. S. Several reboots - no change.

Hi All,

I have done it again !!!!

My OS is Windows 8.1 (Single Language).

For the past 2 days my windows update has not been working. I am getting Windows Update Error 8024402F.

I have tried a lot of things including System Restore which I found out is also not working properly.  It seems all my restore points are corrupted so I deleted all of the and now cannot create a new point (see attached photo).

Please help me to fix these 2 problems.

I have used FixWin from Windows Club, it says it created a restore point for me but there is none. I also tried SCF and as usual it said it fixed some but not all files.

Also tried Microsoft FixIt but that didn't work either.

I tried start repair and it said it cannot repair whatever's wrong.

I am at wits end. I very recently did a Refresh and am almost finished downloading programs I want to reinstall, I really want to avoid redoing that again mainly because I only have a 3G internet connection which is slow and very expensive.

I have worked through the night on fixing these problems and will keep pushing because I have work to do and need my laptop running smoothly.

HELP !!!!!!!!!

Am searching the net now to learn how to re-install windows update.....

I did zip the CBS folder.

I should also note that I get the message on the splash screen about 'Preparing to configure updates.... failure configuring updates, reverting changes".. etc.. as well as blue screen etc...

I have attached the CBS zip file, as per Tom984 instructions.

I will try to provide whatever info I can.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide..

Hi there.
Just found myself diggin' more and more in bugs and troubles in Windows 10.
Now, when I'm looking for updates with Windows Update it shows me that the Updates cannot install and to check it out later, and then gives me an error code: 0x800705b4.
I don't know how to fix this, I have been looking for this error code in the gigant sea of the Internet but nothing. I'm growing tired of Windows 10 Mountains of Bugs. I know it's still not finish and it's never ever gonna be finish, but this is just too much, adding that I'm with the people who cannot download/update apps from the Store and cannot open the Mail/Calendar/OneNote apps, I believe I'm being very patient whit this and waiting for a proper fix.

Answer:Windows 10 Windows Update error code 0x800705b4

It could be that your system has a corruption that's preventing the install. Try going to Tweaking.com and download the Windows Repair utility. After you've invoked the utility, there are a large number of check boxes on the left side of the screen. Check all of the boxes except those that do not pertain to the operating system you're currently running. Once the check boxes have been selected, invoke the scan and this utility will reset all of your settings to the default settings and in the process if there are corrupt configuration and/or settings files it will re-create them. This is what the Microsoft Tech that spent 2 days working on my PC to get rid of the 8007005 error I had. Let us know if this helps.

Answer:Windows 7: Error Code 800B0100 on Windows Update

Re-installed windows anyways.
Seems to be working now, apart from it taking a long time to check for windows.

So my copy of windows 10 is ready, and i want to update everything else beforehand. but i go into windows update, and when i hit "check for updates" it says checking, then returns an error code 80244019. i already tried running the windows update troubleshooter app from their website...no luck with that. it says fixed, but i still have the same issue.
i'm assuming this is the reason that when i click "lets continue" on the windows 10 update notification, its just says "working on it" for infinity.
i have not tried booting in safe mode yet, because the last time i tried that, something happened and i couldnt log back into windows and ended up having to bring it to the microsoft store and had to have them clean install windows.
any thoughts?

Answer:Anyone have a fix for Windows Update Error Code 80244019 on Windows 8.1?

Hi, you could try going to answers dot microsoft dot com and put in the error code. you need to set windows to only update for windows and not any other microsoft products

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Answer:Windows Update fails in Update Check. Error code C80003FA.

Clean windows install doesn't fix it? You must be blocked, maybe your firewall???

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

Hi everybody

I get windows update error code 2 on installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5, 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 x64 (KB2978128)
I have also some other errors installing Internet Explorer 11.

I have used "sfc /scannow" command but it didn't find any integrity violations. the CBS log is attached.

I have also used SUR and the log file can be found attached to this post.

Any help is appreciated.

My Windows Update has been failing to update for a while now and I can't seem to find the solution. Here's the run-down of what happens step by step:Launch an update scan for Windows Update
It scans for a few seconds then says:

Quote:
Install new Windows Update software

To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update.

Once I click Install it begins to "Install and Update," but then immediately returns to "Checking for Updates."
The next box I see says:

Windows could not search for new updates

An error occurred while checking

Error(s) found:
Code 800F081F

This happens every time I've attempted to update. After looking up the error code, I found the main Windows site that gave me the following explaination:
If you receive Windows Update error 800F081F, it means that Windows Update or Microsoft Update cannot determine the cryptographic service provider, or a file Windows Update requires (named catalog store) is corrupted.

I've looked through multiple Windows forums and How-To's and have tried all the fixes I found. SURT, sfc/ scannow, the standalone download for WU, Windows Update Diagnostic, multiple malware scans, and Microsoft Fixit. Ultimately, I always get the same error code, (800F081F).

I should also say this problem has been here for a few months now, and it's becoming more worrisome as more time passes. The longer I... Read more

Hello,
First, excuse my english, I'm trying my best.

I get error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run.

I did the Windows Update Posting instructions. When I did the SURT installation, it didn't finish and I had to reboot the PC. Then it work.

I've tried sfc /scannow several times before with different results: sometimes finished with no errors, sometimes finish with unfixable errors and sometimes didn't finish at all.

I uploaded the CBS.zip

Hope you can help me, thanks.

Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...

Save the file as Appevt.evtx

Repeat for the System log

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum but from what I can gather, you guys know how to resolve Windows Update errors.

Each time I run Windows Update I get error code 8007370B.

I've tried running SURT but that fails straight away with the error on the screen shot attached.

Please help!

All the best,
Glenn

Answer:Windows Update stopped working Code 8007370B

Hi Glenn,

SURT is really a self install Windows update, so......

What update (KB) is failing?

You can try the Windows Update Troubleshooter in Control Panel, and How do I reset Windows Update components?

If those do not help, try manually checking for updates and bypass (untick) any causing problems. If you get some to download and install, go back throught the offers and select one at a time.
