Slow Windows 7(iBuypower Disc)

Question: Slow Windows 7(iBuypower Disc)

Back in December 2009 I bought a computer from iBuypower. I have just recently noticed how slow the install is because I got a new copy of Windows 7 for my 13inch MacBook Pro(2.66 Core2, 4GB RAM) and it seems to run games faster and be more stable. Could it just be a early version of 7 that is causing the problem? or is it hardware?

iBuyPower Specs:
Core i7 OCed 3.2GHz
12GB RAM at 1600Mhz
2x1TB RAID 0 HDD
ASUS P6T SE
ATI 5850 1GB

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Your over clock maybe causing it to slow down.

On a Packard Bell iMedia D2525 running Win 7 Hm Prem, Windows Exp is very, very slow to open the disc in the DVD-RW writer. I'm talking minutes. When DVD-RW drive E is clicked a green progress bar with the short path 'Computer' written in it starts from the top left of the screen and gets progressively slower as it approaches the right end of its travel.
What do you think is causing this and how do I cure it? My 3 old machines running 95, 98SE and WinXP never did this, but I suppose that's progress. Good old MS.

Hello,

I have a problem with my computer, It became very slow lately. The main symptom is that the disc usage is always at 100% (with in reality only 10 Mo/s). I have already tried many things that were unsuccessful :

- Clean disk and registry
- run Malware Byte (Minor things were found)
- desactivate superfetch; windows search and defrag
- remove windows tips& notifications
- disable MSI (see No superfetch No windows search No Defrag still 100% disk usage - Windows 10 Forums)
- Change some parameters on google Chrome/Skype (see : How to fix 100 disk usage in Windows 10 - Microsoft Community)
- change the page file settings ( see here : Disk usage always at 100% [Solved] - windows 10 - Windows 10)

I still have the same problem . Any other suggestions ?

I have to say that I am not a pro, so I followed most of the things I cited above without really understanding what I was exactly doing... If you think that I might not have done something properly, you can ask me to repeat it.

Thanks a lot in advance for help !

Hi there,

I have a Lenovo laptop here that is having quite a few problems. Firstly it was just a problem in Windows where I would click to open something, it would flash up and then close immediately. I thought this may be a HDD error so I tried to boot on to the Windows disc to do a CHKDSK. I powered on the laptop, pressed a key to boot from the CD and Windows started loading files. After loading files it showed the Windows Vista "Aurora" background and then the laptop just crashed and restarted. Now it just gets to BIOS and after a long time it does the POST and then reboots. I thought it may have been the RAM also so I have changed out this. Any suggestions? I have an inkling that it may be the motherboard.

TIA

*OCSE

Answer:Slow BIOS POST and not booting onto a disc or Windows

so it will not even let you do anything with the BIOS?
it sounds as if it is the flash memmory (part of the motherboard) if it is it would most likely be cheaper to replace the MB
you could try reinstalling the BIOS it is a bit of a long shot but it might work, you would have to use a floppy disk for this (usb one should work).

hope this helps

Every time my computer starts up it pops up, and while i'm using it now too. Why does it keep asking me to put a disc into the drive?

-Thanks

Answer:Windows-Disc. No disc in drive. Please insert disc. Pops up a lot.

you probably have an application running upon startup to prompt for that.
or
you did not finish an installation of a program/driver properly, and it thinks you are continuing the installation...

START, Run, enter msconfig, and check startup

Question: www.ibuypower.com

http://www.ibuypower.com/mall/lobby.htm

has anyone heard good/bad things about this site?

I'm someone who lacks the ability to build their own PC and i've seen quite a few people recommend this site for building gaming rigs, so i was wondering if this is a good place to buy a PC from...

Answer:www.ibuypower.com

my desktop is an ibuypower computer which i think is pretty good but their tech support is really sh*tty and on top of that say if u purchase 2GB of ram and your motherboard will only support 1gb they will only give u the 1gb and they wont even tell that ur mobo aint compatiable with it. if u want to build a ocmputer there like i did i searches the stuff i was getting and made sure it would work with each other. but if u can get it built and it performs well its a kick ass computer like mine

thank you. I've never used a forum before, and have no idea what else to do in my position. I uploaded the files that you will need to solve this if you can, thanks again. Also my temps read around 40-60 because i play mmos, and my rear fan runs hard core alot even with case open, and idk if its just the fact that its a gaming pc or if it is telling me of a soon to come heat problem.

Hi,

Uninstall Avast then use the removal tool. Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too, using services.msc.

Update Realtek HD Audio codec driver from their website:

RTKVHD64 RTKVHD64.sys Fri Mar 29 09:40:06 2013 (515599B6)

Update motherboard bios to newest version.

Likely that the memory is not configured well, mismatched, or defective.

Please attach a screenshot of CPU-Z first tab, one of memory tab and one each for each stick of RAM of SPD tab - along with newest crash dumps - if necessary after completing the above. (Or perhaps Avast removal is the trick instead.)

Answer:Ibuypower Or Cyberpower Laptops?

Ummm , the styling looks a little old, like the " C " series Dell. It is also AMD. More then likely it is a good notebook. awahat you have to think about is worst case scenario, this probably will not happen, what if you have a major failure. How good are they with warranty. Will they send you the part like Dell does or will you need to send the whole notebook in. I see a lot of Dells which also means if a few years down the road you crack the LCD, you more then likely can buy one on ebay instead of paying double or triple from the OEM. Also site support like drivers. support email. How much do you have to spend ? Have you looked at alienware notebooks ( they are owned by dell)

Does anyone out there know if the iBuypower computers or other computer out there on like Tigerdirect or the ZT brands from Costo are any good? I've never heard of them but keep seeing them popping up everywhere....

I've only ever had a Dell, HP or Gateway machine.

Answer:iBuypower and other non-namebrand computers

They're most often made from quite much better quality parts than Dell, etc as they don't get exclusively extra cheap motherboards and other parts like the big brand companies. They do sometimes use lower quality power supplies though, quite a feat considering what the factory built boxes have. I wouldn't recommend getting any of them without modifying it yourself and selecting a quality power supply for it, or replacing it yourself to save a few dozen dollars, as well as getting a longer warranty for the PSU.

This was an "Opened and resealed" deal from nobetterdeal.com. I knew the unit wouldn't last for too long as-is but I did at least expect it to work on arrival. Out of the box it would turn on for about half a second and then it would die. After I got it opened, I reseated RAM and GPU and all of the other motherboard connections and then it would start. When I connect it to a monitor, though, the monitor  just sits there in a dormant state. BIOS doesn't even try to run. Neither the motherboard's connection nor the graphic card's will work. I know the motherboard is at least partially functional because the CPU and GPU fans are running. The tech told me it was either the motherboard or the PSU, but given that the stock PSU that they use on Amazon is only $25, I'm betting that it's the PSU, but I'm not an expert. I had the tech trace the serial number and it turns out that this website nobetterdeal bought the unit from amazon. com after a customer returned it. I have about 24 days to decide on getting a refund or keeping the parts. What do you think? Does it sound like the PSU? Or is it more likely the motherboard? Thanks!Specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte Ultra Durable GA-78LMT-USB3PSU: ALLIED ATX12V Model #:  SL-8320BTXOther Specs:     AMD FX-4130 (3.8GHz)    8GB DDR3, Power Supply: 300 WATT    1000 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive    AMD Radeon 6670 1GB    Windows 8

Update: I've tried starting the computer with 1 stick of RAM installed and no RAM installed. Didn't make a difference. I've also tried starting it without the graphics card. \Also, the CD-ROM drive will not open. I've confirmed that it's connected to the PSU and the motherboard, but no love. I'm not really sure what that implies. If it sounds like the PSU I think I'll take the plunge and buy another one for $25. If it might be the motherboard too..idk.

Hi everyone...I'm in the process of getting a new computer and I'm currently looking at this online place called www.ibuypower.com ... basically that site lets you choose the components and they'll put it together for you. I searched the parts on NewEgg and the price actually came out higher hahah

Anyway, what's troubling me is that a look at their ratings at ResellerRatings.com is "great" http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2001-p3-s1-d1.html

So my question is has anyone here had experiences with that company along with suggestions, etc. Thanks in advance.

I found a really decent laptop from iBuyPower.com, but I have a concern about it.

When I google search P170EM, I find that it's made by "CLEVO". And that it's listed a LOT cheaper at other places. I'm willing to spend $1700 on a laptop with no questions asked. But if I can get it cheaper, and more options, then I'll go that route. So what gives? I also find that Sager NP9170 is extremely familiar to the one at ibuypower.com

Either way, what are some good websites that offer gaming laptops? I've been messing with iBuyPower, SagerLaptops.. I'd REALLY like to have a AsUS laptop but I can't configure them :'(

Hey all, new to the forums and in pretty serious need of some help. I bought an IBUYPOWER prebuilt gaming rig last... April I think, and its been working great for me. Recently however ( the last month or so), the sound keeps going out. It went out for about a week before randomly coming back (nothing I did), and now its been gone for about 2-3 weeks. The sound icon down by the clock shows a red x and says that no speakers are plugged in. I've tried a bunch of things to try and get my audio back on, but no luck. I'm not sure what I would need to provide here for anybody to help me, or what I SHOULDNT post for security reasons, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some important notes
*I have Windows 7
*I have two jacks for my speakers, one in the back where you would typically expect to find one, but also an additional one in the front panel. Neither one apparently works, leading me to believe its a driver issue.
*Gosh idk what else to put down! any help would be greatly appreciated, I used to think I was capable with computers but this seems to be beyond me

Hey!
What seems to be wrong us that the UEFI can't seem to detect the harddrives when determining boot order? That's my best guess. I really have no idea. If I load Bootable media, such as my installation drive, it detects it just fine and all my components are fine and I'm able to format and install as I please.
However, I'm unable to access the UEFI configuration, as the pc just stops.
Twice in the past few days it's been able to work itself out and boot as normal, so I know it's not a harddrive issue, but it's extremely rare.
I formatted and installed a fresh windows on a secondary drive to see if that would help to both avail.
I have a video showing what happens, but I can't upload it

On a 4-year old laptop running Windows 7, I've been burning, in Windows Explorer, Verbatim brand DVD-DL discs rated at 8x, on an external USB Panasonic UJ-220 blu-ray burner that can burn DVD-DL at 2.4x, at 2.4x (the only burn speed choice that Windows Explorer offers), with no problem.

Now I'm trying to do the same, with the same external USB burner and with discs from the same cake, on a 1-year old desktop, also running Windows 7. Both the laptop and the desktop are running 64-bit Windows 7.

On the desktop, I get this error:

=========================================
There was a problem burning this disc

The write speed for the recordable disc is either too fast or too slow for your CD or DVD burner. Insert a recordable disc that has a different write speed, adn then try again.
=========================================

Then it offers choices to try with a different disc, save the temp files for later, etc.

I've tried with 3 discs, and got the same error with all of them.

The UJ-220 has two USB plugs; one for data & power, and one for just additional power. I thought maybe the burner wasn't getting enough power from the cable that's just for power. So I plugged that cable into the laptop, leaving the data cable in the desktop. Same problem.

Burning a disc rated at 8x at 2.4x, in a burner rated at 2.4x, should be no problem, but even if it was, why does it work fine with the laptop?

What do I need to do to resolve this problem and get these discs to... Read more

Answer:Error burning DVD with Windows Explorer: "disc to fast or too slow"

Hi GregL,

Normally I would say that is because of media incompatibility with the burner (some brands just don't get on with each other), but reading through your post this can't be the problem as you're using the same discs and burner on both machines. The only thing I can think of at the moment is that the drive is being picked up by your laptop as USB 2.0 but only USB 1.1 by your desktop.

One of the very first things I did after receiving my W510 was to create the Lenovo R&R Start Up disc (actually 2 of them in case one doesn't work). Is that the same as the Windows 7 System Repair disc that is recommended to make as well or do they perform separate functions. Thank you for your time. Jim

Answer:What is Difference between Lenovo Rescue & Recovery Start Up Disc and Windows 7 System Repair Disc?

Lenovo Rescue & Recovery Disc allow you to recover your machine back to Lenovo Default Windows 7 image, in case your Windows is corrupted or something went wrong.Windows 7 System Repair Disc allow you to recover and repair Windows file if something went wrong, you can also do a System Restore when your Windows cannot start up. You can do some advanced configuration with command prompt in Windows 7 System Repair Disc or uses your own Windows Recovery Image files to restore your Windows + files + program, because that will be your custom image files. Best RegardsPeter

Windows ME Computer has a CD-ROM in it, which shoud be able to read data from a disc. If I put in a data disc and go to my computer, it shows the D drive with the little disc and music notes by the disc. When you doubleclick it to open the CD it takes you right to windows media player. No matter what you do it always opens windows media player. I am helping a co worker of my wife with this computer. They must have had it working at one time cause they have games in the computer that probabaly came from discs. anyway, why does it bring up windows media all the time, why does it show the musical notes beside the disc in my computer? how can I get it to read a data disc? I removed her CD-ROM and hooked up an old burner I had and it installed and worked right away. I went to mycomputer and it showed the D drive with the disc but this time without the musical notes, I doubleclicked it and it brought up the data on the disc I had in right away with no problem. So, my question is, I will have to take my CD-Burner out of her computer and put hers back in. How can I get hers to see a data disc and not just a music disc? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a Pavillion [WC778AA-UUW, Software Build #: A1PNv6PrA2].After upgarding to Windows 10 it exhibit temporary slow performance.I can see the disc and memory at times are accessed intensively and this slow down my computer, sometimes it is running on its own for minutes. It seems to be the system that re-indexes the disc repeatedly or similar OS-internal operations. Now I think about supplementing my PC with an SSD.Do you have any advice on which product I should choose, I need about 400 GB.Have you any description of how I can best carry out the upgrade (20 years ago I was an experienced computer technician).Best regardsroffeh

Answer:Slow disc - add a SSD?

Hi, The following link shows specs of your machine:        http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c01998983 It is an old machine by today standard. It has at least 1 spare HDD bay   Bay                                                                                       Total Bays*13.33 cm (5.25 inch)28.89 cm (3.5 inch)3Pocket Media Drive1* Bays may be occupied by existing hardware. therefore you can add any standard 2.5" SSD (very hard to find 3.5" SSD) which is normal laptop drive. My suggestion Buy new SSD and mounting kit. 1TB SSD's are very cheap now but if you wish you can buy smaller (capacity) such as 512GB.Clone existing HDD to new SSD, this should save your time a lot,Swap new SSD to the place of old HDD,Format old HDD and install it as a second HDD.For 1: please try Crucial, Samsung, SanDisk .... SSD and you need mounting kit such as      http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/2-5-to-3-5-bracket For 2: Normally you can use free software to clone. I ... Read more

I have an HP Envy i7 laptop which came with a 1TB hard drive.
As there was space to add a second drive I added a 500GB drive.
In addition I added a 320GB drive in the DVD slot (using a dvd/disc converter cartridge).

I have recently noticed that disc access in Explorer has become really slow (seems to think about it for 10 - 15 secs sometimes) and loading programmes seems to take longer too.

Could this be as a result of adding the extra discs?
Is there any way to resolve this and get back to normal without removing the discs?

Answer:Disc access very slow

Hi, have you checked the SMART parameters of your disks? (E.g. Passmark offers freeware.. plenty of others).

Run chkdsk on each disk from an elevated command prompt
(Windows key + X, click Command Prompt (Admin).

If you want to specifically check the speed of access to each disk, please see:
Hard Drive Benchmark - How to Run a Hard Drive Speed Test

Have you checked your task manager for excessive CPU/RAM/Disk use?

As you don't want to remove the disks, you could try (but it's not 100% equivalent to removing them) sthg like this:
http://www.windows8core.com/how-to-d...n-windows-8rt/

(Ok it's Win 8 but should be very similar and you can research further).

Presumably you are sure your system is clean of viruses.

Question: Disc cleanup slow

Disc cleanup is slow calculating lately (Windows XP Home Edition) even when it turns out there is little to cleanup. Any ideas?

Answer:Disc cleanup slow

Hello Julie Frances

Is it hanging at "Compress Old Files"?
If so, try this fix
Go to the link below and scroll down to 48 and you'll see the "Disk Cleanup - Compress Old Files Freezes" Fix in the right column, download it and run it which should correct your problem.
"To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 48 right hand side
Just click on the words "Disk Cleanup-Compress Old Files Freezes" NOT the underscored word "Undo"

You could try using CCleaner but do not use the registry cleaner. Just clean out all the temp/old files

Having at last received a replacement PSU, I've finally put all the bits together, no problems.

My first slipstream disc was not appreciated. but thankfully I had made a backup, so XP installed, no problems.

The issue now is the world's longest boot time. The POST screen comes up and does the memory check. There is then a delay of over one minute until the IDE HDD and optical drive are detected. Then a PCI devices screen appears. This is on view for about another minute or so. The system will not boot to Windows unless I have the XP disc in the DVD drive - I just get a 'Disc Error' message. I have changed the BIOS setting between HDD and optical drives for booting - makes no difference. HDD shows up on channel 4 as Master and the DVD on channel 4 as slave. Mobo only supports 2 IDE devices. Eventually, the 'press a key to boot from CD' message appears - I can ignore this and Windows then loads up - and very quickly as well.

I have checked all cabling, cleared CMOS, tweaked the BIOS every possible way - all to no avail.

System details:

Gigabyte P35C ? DS3R mobo
C2D E6750 2.66Ghz cpu
2 x 1Gb Corsair DDR2 XMS2 ? 6400C4
ASUS GeForce 8600 GT 256MB PCIe
Antec TruPower Trio 650W

Thanks for any help.

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 premium 64bit.
I generally use Ashampoo burning software 7 to burn files to discs etc and it works fine........however it wont burn to RAM discs.
I tried using the Windows built in burning operation to drag and drop 2 gb of files to a DVDRAM disc......it started OK, but after 40 minutes I pressed cancel.
I burned the same files to a normal DVD and it was done in a couple of minutes.
The discs are made by Panasonic and should be just drag and drop.
My DVD drive is an Asus sata drive. I checked on the Asus web site and the last driver build was a few years old, so I didn't try it.
Anyone else having problems with DVDRAM discs?
Is there other software I could be using?
Thanks
Graham

My pc has really slowed down now. It was having a few minor problems due i believe to my son playing games or downloading various bits and pieces although he denies this. Using any other burning program would take the usual 7-8mins
I assumed it was the drive so i swapped it for a samsung still the same slow burning time
I have unistalled the program and reinstalled but with the same result so i upgraded to version 5 of convertx and again another 28mins to burn a dvd
Ive consulted vso, their answer is poor quality discs
Clearly isnt when the other software burns the discs fine

Hi all, first time poster so please be gentle!

Yesterday, I replaced an ailing DVD writer, nothing complicated, a straight SATA swap. When I restarted, I was met with A DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED. PRESS CTRL ALT DEL TO RESTART. I did, and the machine booted successfully, but ever since my HD read/write times have been woeful. Using HDTune to benchbark write speed, I get around 4.5mb/s - compared to over ten times that on my other three hard drives (two internal and one external connected via USB). The two internal drives which are working normally are PATA, as opposed to the snail-pacer which is SATA.

In case the drive is about to fail, I'm currently backing up its data to one of the fully working drives so I can't try anything yet, but I was wondering if anyone else had dealt with a similar scenario and had any ideas how to go about fixing it?

Many thanks in advance!

I have done memtest86, RAM is fine. All temps are good. I replaced the HDD...but I fear that some files may have been corrupted or lost in the process of copying my old HDD to the new one.

The windows 7 repair disc says it cannot fix the problem. I tried running sfc in command prompt, but it tells me that I have to log in as administrator from the local machine, WHICH I AM.

I am at my wits' end. I mean it takes almost a minute at times to open an email, or to open a new window... sometimes it's fine, but usually it's super slow.

Maybe I should just wipe the HDD and reload windows?

Help???

Answer:Super slow PC...can't access sfc...repair disc not working...

What exactly is the message that the repair discs give? How old is the computer?
You could just reformat the drive now, but obviously you would lose your data. I would wait to reformat until you can tell that it is the only option left. Or, I guess, if you don't want to deal with it at all, then just reformat now.

You?ve got tow possibilities:
Either you will take a original Microsoft Windows CD and would reinstall the OS. Then you could install the Toshiba drivers which you could download from the Toshiba European driver website or you will order the Toshiba Recovery CD from the local ASP (authorized service partner)

It?s your choice now

You most likely don't need the Repair CD if you're PC is running slow, and it's presence wouldn't make any difference anyway.

Hey

Problem 1
having an issue since some time now

the transfer of files from one hard disk to another has become extremely slow

2 mins for a 200 mb file

the transfer is both ways. One HDD is PATA, the other SATA

Please help

Drive 1: SATA: 446GB, Free - 7GB (But the problem is persisting since the time there was much more space left)
Drive 2: PATA: 465GB, Free - 132GB

I have just reinstalled windows but the problems are still there

Problem 2

The drive when attached directly to the motherboard and now attached to the USB does not read a blank disc, hence i cannot burn it.

It is able to read a disc which already has data on it.

It is a Reader cum Writer with up to date drivers but can only read and not write

Help

Thanks

Answer:Transfer of files is very slow, Drive will not read blank disc

Working on a spiffy e-machine with Windows Vista Home Basic that runs pretty well.

After reading multiple posts where the advice usually begins with suggesting a 'boot disc' or a 'recovery disc', I guess what I'm looking to find out is:
1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?
2) How do I go about making one on this machine (or if I even can)? << I did read through Grinler's tutorials regarding System Restore points and all that seems to in good order. But I guess I'm not sure on the relationship between that and my post (or if there even is one).
3) a best practice regarding these type of discs
I don't have any pressing issues at this time, but I also don't want to wait until I do.

Everything I've learned here at BC has been so great & helpful, I would like to stay on that path, so any links/apps/ideas/suggestions and/or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Boot Disc, Recovery Disc, Frisbee Disc

1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?Boot disk vs recovery disk. Let me see if I can phrase that in a way that makes some sense.A recovery disc is a generic term for the disk or media containing a backup of the original factory condition or a specified condition of a computer as configured by the original equipment manufacturer or an end-user. OEM supplied recovery media is sometimes shipped with some computers to allow the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software as it was when it was shipped. This is not as common a practice today as it was in the past. I won't confuse the issue, but google recovery partition for more information.A boot disk is a removable data storage medium, i.e. DVD or flash drive from which a computer can load and run 'boot' an operating system or utility program. The computer must have an installed program or application which will load and execute a program or application from the boot disk. This will enable you to boot an otherwise unusable machine to be able to troubleshoot the OS or non-working application as necessary.Hope that gives you a better idea of the difference. As to how to create a boot disk? I will let more knowledgeable staff or members assist you.

Hi everyone

Sorry but my first post is a request for help

My dear old laptop 80% of the time is so slow it's basically unuseable. When it is running slow the disc light is continually flashing. This can happen from startup and after a while the disck light will go off and the laptop will be ok for a while until the disc light starts again. I'm using chrome and as far as I can tell the problem is not affected by what load I'm placing on the machine.

I recently had a fresh install of Win7 Ultimate and as far as I know it's fully up to date. Previously it was running Vista and had the same problem - I was hoping the win7 install would sort it out.

One thing that puzzles me (but may mean nothing!) is that when I look at the disc device properties it lists -
capacity 14472mb
unallocated space 1mb
but the disc has 78.3gb free space.

I've checked that the disc drivers are up to date and not sure what to check for next.

I'd really appreciate some help and thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Since you only have one Gig of RAM, that is one reason. That is the minimum. Post a screen shot of your Disk Management and I can check it to see if your files are correct. Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image

I'm trying to set up a sort of retro gaming system, an old P2-233 I've underclocked to 166 so that those things with the overflow problem don't crash due to the processor being too fast. I was lucky enough to get an AWE64 (ISA) for it, which is a convenient card for such a time thanks to the fact that it more or less covers all bases but the UltraSound, and everything supporting UltraSound supported General Midi anyway (excluding MIDI players or whatever explicitely designed for the UltraSound.)

Thing is, it didn't have a driver disc with it. I remember it was a pain to get PROPER dos support out of the thing. I had to install Windows 95 drivers and then play around with the managers and such until things were exactly right as I recall. Unfortunately, I no longer have that disc. I made do with what I could, and I found a synthgm.sbk file which at least got AWEUTIL to work, but, the file was from DirectX, so when I later tried the so called "basic" disk I found a file that may or may not have been there before that appeared to be a different size, so I overwrote the old one with it. Thing is, some things, such as Descent 2, still don't work right with General Midi emulation enabled. That's fine in Descent's case since it supports AWE, but, what about the things that don't? When I start up Descent 2 with GM configured in the music, there's no music and it runs so insanely slow that it takes a good 10 minutes to completely ... Read more

Hi all,

I have been trying to creat recovery discs for my L300 but after a 1-2 mins the programme stops and says "please check if the disc is scratced or dirty, if so, try again with a new disc" error code 0E01B5-26-2A030C00,

I have tried this lots of times with lots of different DVDs over the past few weeks but this keeps happening!

The machine is only a few weeks old and running Vista home premium any advise please as Im stuck.

Thanks for reading.

Answer:Satellite L300 - recovery disc creator error - disc is scratced or dirty

Hi mate

I think you used simply not fully compatible and supported disks.
In my case I couldn?t create the recovery because the CD/DVD drive was not able to handle it.

Fact is that many CD & DVD disks supports different standards and properties and in many cases the CD/DVD drives have many difficulties to handle the different disks.
I think you should simply test some DVD-R disks.

I uses DVD-R and was able create the recovery disk.

Hello world!

I just got a new laptop with Win7 64 bit home premium and that's all good that this
OS came installed on there and I'm using it, but for my teaching activities I'll need
to get into some Linux OS in a multiboot configuration. So I will want to eventually
need to be able to fix this when the HD fails, well because we know that ALL HDs
will eventually fail, right? So this is a 'remanufactured' ASUS K55A, and the one piece
of paper that came with it says the HD has been reformatted and there is no recovery
partition so I should promptly make up a recovery DVD set, which I did (4 DVDs).

So I used the disk management to shrink the C: down to it's minimum, like 150Gb, due
to what it said was some files that could not be moved. That's probably OK. Then I
deleted the D: and made a new D: of about 350Gb which leaves the unassigned space
all looking to be contiguous (like 188Gb). In looking on there, I see the UEFI partition
of 200Mb, which is cool, and then there are these two mysterious partitions: a 25Gb
recovery partition with no listing of it's filesystem nor any drive letter, hanging out in
the never never land and not in the early (leftmost) part of the disc, and there is this
protected Q: drive that apparently has MS office on it 'in case' I want to buy it. There
is the 'reduced with ads' MS office already working and that is all I would ever want.

1) In reading up I see there is a lot of headache going around with Win 8 and UEFI but
I believe that UEFI is a goo... Read more

Answer:Questions: UEFI, restore partition, Q:, install disc, recovery disc

Hi PJ,

You covered several areas, so I'll start with some suggestions:

1. Since you already burnt (and checked?) the recovery DVD's, that recovery partition is no longer required, so you can remove it. Everything you need to restore the computer back to its factory state will be contained on those 4 x DVD's - store them safely.

2. For the Linux distro's, given that this is a UEFI boot, I would run them in a virtual machine using either free VirtualBox or free VMWarePlayer (my personal preference is for the latter).
Linux - Install on Windows 7 Virtual Machine using VirtualBox

3. If you never plan on using Office, uninstall it, then remove the Q: partition.

You should also consider a clean OEM install at some point - it gets rid of all the bloatware that the OEM's come with:
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Lastly, keep this handy if you choose to clean install under UEFI:
UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with

Hi, it makes 2 month my computer crashed during Windows 10 update. It's a coincidence but the Hard drive crashed during the update.I bought the set of recovery disc from lenovo website and when i received them i tryed to recover my laptop. TO do this i plugged an external CD-ROM and insert disc 1 inside. But after asking me to insert CD 2, the screen is blocked on  "Current Item : CPPII Initialize Storage Disk(s)"  Recovery process is running , please don't remove your power adapter. I've called the lenovo's support and they decided to send me a new set of discs. Today i've tryed them but it does the same thing. I'm certainly doing wrong thing but what ? I'm not using the original hard drive, i've bought a SSD 240Go instead of the 750 Go SSD+HDD  Thanks for the help

hello all
I hace recently replaced my failed hdd in an old acer pc. I loaded the recovery software and thathseemed to go well, until the pc reboots. It reads "disc boot failure insert system disc and press enter". Despite the several attempts of reloading the system recovery software, and changing the boot order in bios i get the same result. Is it bad /old software, bad hdd? also i noticed that in bios the dvd/cd drive and hdd are labeled sata 1 and 2 respectively should the be or does that not matter? Thanks in advance.

Satellite A100 is old notebook model and I think you cannot order it anymore.
What you can try is to install own WXP version. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Hi All,
I know this is 'against the rules' as I have posted this in another section as well but I got no replies so thought I would try this instead.

I have a toshiba satellite L750 running Windows 7 home premium, when trying to burn anything onto a blank disc I get as far as selecting my items and asking it to burn but it keeps telling me to insert a blank disc (which obviously I have). I have tried several different types of blank disc but it dosnt seem to recognise any of them.

Would be very greatful if someone could help.

Many thanks in advance!

I have an old Fujitsu Euroline PC operating on Windows ME. I ahvent used this in some time but today i tried to boot up and got the messageDisc Boot Failure... insert system disc and press enter.I can not find this disc but not sure i had one to begin with. How do i solve this problem and get the pc up and running again ?

Answer:disc boot failure .. insert system disc

Disc Boot Failure means it can't find an operating system - Windows MEIf it has a floppy drive make sure that is it empty and no floppy disc in.Ditto for the CD drive.Remove floppy disc and CD if they were in, then reboot PCIf it still gives the Disc Boot Failure message then it is the Harddrive not working.Switch off the pc and unplug the wall plug then:Take the side off the pc tower and reseat cables to Harddrive (unplug the connections and then plug them back in again) Switch on pc and boot up and see if that fixes it.

It's probably a loose connection to the hard drive or the other end, the motherboard.Check that the SATA data cable is pushed fully home into the rear of the hard drive. Follow the cable to the motherboard and push that fully home. Also check the power connector. If the problem persists, try different cables.

Hello.I have been trying come up with a solution for this issue for awhile and am at my wits end. After upgrading my PC:http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03685096...to Windows 10 a few months ago, my PC will randomly not boot (more often than not) and I will receive the following error message upon booting:Error: No boot disc has been detected or the disc has failed.I then have to manually shut down the PC.When I select F10 upon booting and enter through the bios and simply select "ignore changes and exit" the PC will then load normally. It happens seemingly at random. Sometimes I can restart the PC a couple times in a row without issues. Typically I have to go through the bios though and I avoid powering down the PC at all if I can.I have done numerous tests on the hard disks and they have all passed. I have checked the connections from the HD to the motherboard and there are no issues there. I flashed the bios to the newest version as well. I tried downgrading as well as refreshing Windows to no avail.Help?Thank you in advance.

Probably you have to update the current version of your Toshiba Disc Creator software. It?s downloadable Toshiba tool that you can get here:

I have a problem trying to set up raid 1. I have a new PC with W7 Pro 64 bit installed and have migrated everything off the old failing desktop. Everything works well and W7 has no problem booting. I can take W7 image dumps as well. Somewhere in the process of setting up RAID I have done something that does not allow me to complete the process. I decided to use the Install Disk and do a startup repair to clear things, but for some reason neither the Install Disc or the W7 System Repair disc find a system to repair yet my system boots properly.
I've read that I can image dump the whole thing, enter BIOS and setup Raid 1 properly and then restore the image. The proper drivers for RAID were loaded. Can someone tell me if this process would work? Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Neither W7 install disc or W7 repair disc find my new system

Win7 doesn't much like dated RAID technology, and doesn't need it with built-in drive imaging.

If you wanted to RAID your new PC you'd have reimage or reinstall anyway.
