Web Based Application Compliance Testing

Question: Web Based Application Compliance Testing

I have a web based application and want it to port it on Windows Vista . What are the procedures I must follow to check for its compliance on safe deployment on Vista?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: Web Based Application Compliance Testing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Web Based Application Compliance Testing

Let's see. I have no clue, but if I think about it, it must be:
Does your web server software work properly in Vista?
Which flavor of Vista do you plan on using?
Do you have the hardware to support it?
Have you checked into any of the documentation?
If you have checked into the documentation, promptly ignore it, set up your own test box, and see how things shake out. If what you find out on your own correlates with the documentation, then you might start to have some confidence.

That's where I would start if it were me. Essentially, a web service comes down to the web-server software, some sort of a middle tier, and I would imagine some sort of database. Are they compatible with Vista?

Hi All,
I have a customer that is trying to jump through Trustwave's
questionnaire on PCI compliance (credit cards).  This is
their explanation of one of the required tests:  they
want both "vulnerability" and "penetration testing".  Now I don't
see the difference, but they do:
Vulnerability scanning uses automated tools to attempt
to discover vulnerabilities in the cardholder data
environment.  Penetration testing goes further by
having personnel *manually* attempt to exploit
vulnerabilities and gaps in security the same way a
criminal would.  Without penetration testing, you may
know where vulnerabilities may be, but you won't know
how deep an attacker can get or what he may be able to
"Manually"?  How is the world does one do that?  Try to log in
with telnet?  Call the local federal prison and ask to borrow
a hacker for the day?  What can I do manually that the
"automated tools" can't?
Now I an see trying to seal the hole and retesting, but
that is not what they are asking for.  They want me
to sit down and try to breaking into the thing *the same
way a criminal would*!

Answer:PCI compliance: vulnerability vs penetration testing

What are the requirements for an existing application to be comaptible on Windows Vista RC1? How they are different from " Works with Windows Vista" requiremnts?

Answer:Requirements For Application Compliance.

I suspect that you'll have to contact Microsoft on MSDN to find that out. But, since Vista has gone RTM, I suspect they aren't very concerned with RC1 right now.

When you change the following registry value to "1", is FIPS enabled in realtime or does the machine need to be rebooted?

We require FIPS 140-2 compliance on all machines running WinZip. I was wondering if it was possible to enable FIPS when WinZip is opened. FIPS breaks several sites, applications, etc in our environment and trying to find the best way to be FIPS compliant so
that WinZip runs in FIPS mode. FIPS is not needed for anything other than WinZip at this point. Any suggestions?

We have been having major issues with one of our PC's. I'm suspecting there could be something fishy going on, but we have 3 computers that are identical to this one, with all same driver versions but none of the other PC's are doing this.

Issue : The PC deadlocks every now and then, and doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard at all in any ways.
So far all we've done is reboot PC, and we even tried building a new PC with new hardware - but alas, the same problems continue on this new PC aswell.
Driver verifier has been running on PC for roughly 36 hours now, and it has generated 2 dump files. I have no clue how to read these, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Our setup roughly without going into too many details:
A DELL OPTIPLEX XE2 (If i remember correctly, could also be a DELL 9020)
Escatec pressure and humidity cabinet controlled by a PLC via EtherCat
NI-PXI rack for connecting all instruments and providing required COM ports.

Driver verifier dump files attached.

Can somebody explain to me what a LAN Based Application is? I've tried to google it but cannot find nothing. I would imagine its an application that only operates within a LAN, so i.e an office, so it wont be able to communicate to another office?

Answer:LAN Based Application

It is an application that runs only on a LAN (Local Area Network) without internet access.

The LAN could be small, 3 - 4 clients; or large with over 500 clients in multiple buildings.
I have worked in both situations and used propriatary applications that ran on the LAN, but were not designed to be accessed from the internet.

Video Conferencing, Remote Access Control, Gaming Servers, all started as LAN applications.

This is the best info I could find and it isn't much.

I posted in this forum as I feel this is security related. Mods move if need be.

I'm looking for a web based (preferably PHP) change log program. It should do the following:

1. Be simple!
2. Allow people to enter descriptions of basic system changes
3. Changes should have categories by systems and can be filtered as such.
4. Time stamp the actions and have a "master display" where all changes can be viewed
5. LDAP authentication would be nice.

Does such a thing exist? My goggling has failed due to "change log" being such a popular term.

I have a neat idea that I would like to try out. Caution this is going to get nerdy not just geeky. I play D&D and my group uses a program that has our characters on it. It's a very old program made for Win 95 but I have made it work in everything from Linux to Vista.

I want to find a way to put the program online so my group can all edit their characters instead of doing it last minute before we play. I have a web server and hosting so thats no issue. My first thought is to use a VPN or terminal services but is there a way to just host the application by it's self? What I would like is something as non technical as having a desktop icon they can just click and it opens the program as if it's local.

Answer:make an application web based

Sure, just rewrite it in some language your web server can run and have it save all its data in an appropriate database accessible to the web server.

If you're talking about just putting the .exe on your website, it doesn't really work that way. By default, Windows won't run programs from the internet, and the web server won't allow you to write data to it. Depending on how the app works, you may be able to give each person a copy and configure it to save its data remotely in a central location. It might be possible to do something like Sysinternals Live, but I doubt you'd be able to do with just regular hosted webspace. That also doesn't take into account the saving/sharing of data, just the remote access to the .exe.

A user has resized a window within a hosted web application to the point where it is exactly OK/too small, meaning it flickers back and forth between having scroll bars and not. While it is in this state, it essentially freezes out any other commands in the window or ability to resize it. Are there any ways to interupt this, delete application window size preferences or other ideas? I know this is data that is stored locally as I can execute the same functions on another PC sucessfully. This is viewing of a web hosted PC based medical application by a standard PC running Windows 7, IE9. Is there a way to delete user preferences for the application so it will default to orginal window sizing?

Answer:Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

As a workaround, you could try a free program I use myself to automatically resize your different applications. I know how annoying this can be, in my case, especially for Internet Explorer.

For the pharmacy I have made an application to support a drug preparation. This application is used in public pharmacies as well as in hospitals and industry.
This is a web-based application. So the installation has been done on the server with a configuration within IIS.
The clients start the application in InternetExplorer.
Why InternetExplorer? Because the client's preparation protocols, raw materials need to be weighed and labels must be printed. Hereby I use self-programmed ActiveX controls. And other browsers do not support ActiveX controls.
The web-based application is generally found to be good.
As Edge is increasingly "pushing", InternetExplorer seems to be the cornerstone, as well as the application described above.
My questions are now:
- How long are web-based applications still supported?
- Will Edge support ActiveX controls in the future?
- Is there an alternative?
I would appreciate if there were sound answers to the above questions.

Theoretically speaking, if different types of malware files where to penetrate past Kapsersky's protection and get placed into "Low Restricted", how much damage is possible under default settings?

Answer:Kaspersky Policy Based Application Control

Theoretically speaking, damage same as trusted group. Low restricted is basically trusted group in default settings (Automatic mode). Application control is for interactive mode, in which the prompts gets issued, then Low restricted is useful as much as the user knows.

Could anyone tell me which of the many languages I should/could use to develop a browser based application meant to support database functions (store/retreival to local disk of user inputs) and that could read and send data off the host PC serial port. I'm not looking for client/server stuff, just a plain browser based application running on a local machine for accessing its local serial port and sending/storing data to or from it. I could do it using WinAPI or MFC but I would prefer to have the familiar web based application instead.

I'm not familiar with ASP.NET, PHP, XML, SQL etc... so I wonder if any of them could dot the job ??

Thanks in advance.

HI There,
I'm looking for a simple windows service that I can schedule to run that will do the following:
1.  Search a .log file for a given phrase - "fail" for example.
2.  If this is found, send an email and alert (screen popup) to the administrators.
I may need to resort to a batch file do this, but I hope was hoping something already existed and I could have this up and running very quickly.
Please let me know if you know of anything that fits the bill.

Answer:Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

This is a simple batch file if you have an e-mailer that lets you send from the command line.  I haven't tried this in ages on Windows, so I don't know which one(s) might be available.
You should take a look at the post, How to create a command-line toolkit for Windows, on these very forums, paying special attention to the "grep" command that's part of UnixUtils.  Grep allows you to do the kind of search for text content you're seeking with ease.  You can then either query the status code returned after the command or redirect the output of the command to a file, and check that its size is not 0 bytes, to determine whether it found what you're looking for.  A simple 'if' construction afterward to trigger the e-mail to be sent and you're done.
You may prefer to go with installing Cygwin rather than the UnixUtils if you want something more current and want to have a more extensive set of Unix commands available to you under Windows.

My Problem is user dont have the admin access, either i need to use my ID or administrator ID. Which installs application into Appdata\Local folder which wont be accessible by other users.
How to i enable the application for other users as well without providing admin access

Answer:Installing profile based application in other users folder

What ATT app is this? If it's for accessing the internet then that doesn't require any installed program, just plug in the wire or access wireless signal via icon in SYstem Tray. Any installed program beyond this for this purpose is bloatware.

But once we know what the program is for exactly we can help you better.

Hi, i've recently been doing work with an internet cafe and we need a solution for re-imaging. I have an image created with ghost but I have no software to use to distribute it and the client PC's only have CD-R/RW and the image is 4.3GB.

I tried to use Ghost recovery disk to map the network drive where I have the image but the recovery disk didn't couldn't detect my network card (I'm guessing it didn't support the specific NIC of the client PC's)
I need a software solution that will let me re-image any computer from a centralized location (server) over the network. We have about 40-50 client PC's. So far we have been doing manual installs (The entire server crashed and took all the old software with it so we're starting from scratch)

If anyone could help, we could open this business a lot sooner than expected with software that can do this!

A free solution would clonezilla or even RIS or WDS

Anti-malware testing on the Windows platform remains highly controversial, even after almost two decades of regular and frequent testing using millions of malware samples. While Macs have fewer threats there are fewer prior tests on which to base test methodology, so establishing sound mainstream testing is trickier than your might think, not least because so few people have experience of it. But as both Macs and Mac malware increase in prevalence, the importance of testing software that?s intended to supplement the internal security of OS X increases, too. OK. That?s what it says in the abstract for our recent Virus Bulletin paper, but that?s because it happens to be what we think.

price is everything in this question... Establish that and you can pretty much just Google it.
Also establishing training and user outlines/ skill-sets would be beneficial... As those XP machines could be nixxed and you could do it very cheap/free if they have decent users...

Question: PCI Compliance...

Is it just me or do other people hate opening up their firewall to a network so the PCI compliance scan can run?!

From what the below blurb says, I have to let the traffic past my IPS and IDS. Following the letter of the (IT) law, a firewall itself isn't an IPS or IDS, those are components of the firewall. Am I wrong? Can I technically create the white list for just the IDS/IPS module(s) of the firewall for the network range performing the scan and still be "compliant" in the scanning effort (and not open a huge 4,096 IP address hole in my general firewall)?

Here is the disclaimer they write:
Check Scanner IP Addresses
It is your responsibility to confirm that the PCI network scan of your entire in-scope infrastructure can be performed without interference from intrusion detection systems (IDSs) and intrusion prevention systems (IPSs). This is per the PCI Council's Program Guide.

Only IPs that are accessible from the Internet are scanned by the service. The service automatically provides multiple scanners for external (perimeter) scanning, located at the Security Operations Center (SOC) that is hosting the PCI compliance service. Depending on your network, it may be necessary to add the scanner IPs to your list of trusted IPs, so the service can send probes to your in-scope system components.

The scanner IPs are: (

Hi all,

I have read online that there is a solution for ADO-base application to work from top-down level, i.e, Win 7 to Win XP etc. However, I would like to know is there a solution to solve a bottom-up level problem for ADO application to work. A
short background story, I'm now working on a VB6 project which is running perfectly fine in Win XP ver. However, when I move my project from XP to Win 7 SP1 (Enterprise Version), and I tried to recompile it, I got the
"xx_deprecated" error.
I learn that using msado60_Backcompat.tlb is able to solve the top-down issue. So what about bottom-up? Does this method works too? Hope any gurus here can advise on me this issue. Thank you very much.

Having recently brought a digital camera and downloaded images onto my PC, I now appreciate the importance of RGB compliant monitors as I can never seem to print accurate colour renditions compared to what I see on my monitor. However, looking through the spec sheet of my monitor, it does state that it is RGB compliant and the monitor has in fact the RGB sockets at the back as well as the usual "normal" socket. Question: Vista compliance

Hello all,

while evaluating a new enterprise tool for our company a question was asked to the suppliers if their software is Vista compliant. One solution only requires a thin client with IE 5.5 or higher to use and say that they will not check if their software is Vista compliant as Vista uses IE 7 and they have tested with IE7 and Windows XP and it works fine.

Is there something that could prevent their software from working in Vista? Should we require them to certify Vista compliance?

Question: HIPAA Compliance

I have a client that works with health related information. They would like to become HIPAA compliant. Primarily they need to have a secure method of emailing and potentially securely uploading/downloading files from a central server. These will mostly be scans of documents to replace faxing.

Are there guides on where to go (email providers or setting up them up with their own secure email servers) and/or how to accomplish this?

They were also wondering about a secure storage for any scanned health documents (such as an external drive or server).

Answer:HIPAA Compliance

The bottom of the wikipedia article on HIPAA has a large collection of links which look like a good place to start.

anyone else had a problem connection to virgin's 24/7? They have told me that my problem is because their new server is NOT v92 compliant! Suggested string changes have helped but a reported connection of 33.6 is dissaponting to say the least

Answer:v.92 modem compliance

What Virgin are saying is that they do not support V92 'modem on hold' feature. This will not affect your connection speed.I believe 33.6 is about right for 56K modem.

I'm working on a government project that includes using PowerPoint slideshows on the internet. If you're at all familiar with the government, you're aware that there is a MAJOR push to make sure all files on the internet are 508 compliant (accessible to users with disabilities.) I'm hearing from some folks that PowerPoint is NOT 508 compliant, while others say it can be MADE compliant. (In my digging around, I found a download that claims to walk you through making a PP slideshow compliant.)

Has anyone out there run into this situation? Have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I am currently operating XP Pro 32 bit and Directx 9. In a few days I will be installing from scratch Vista Home premium 64 bit.

What I am not sure of is whether my CPU is compliant with Directx 10.

It is an Intel Pentium D 915.

I have searched Intels site for hours to no avail.

Does anyone have an answer for me please?

Answer:Directx 10 Compliance

For DirectX 10 to work you need a graphics card that is capable eg ATI HD 2000 series or above

Vista is capable of running DirectX 9 and 10 so you wont need to upgrade your graphics card unless you want to use DirectX 10

I purchased a usb type c spectre late last year (the rose version with i7 and 512GB.  It generally works well but so far the power system is very disappointing.  The basic issue is I purchased this device specifically because it purports to be USB Type C compliant.  That means I should be able to charge the device with any usb type c charger provided it meets the technical specs (e.g. 45 watts and so forth).  But it doesn't.  Instead, the software settings seem to make it in effect a proprietary set up.  If so, this is objectionable and possibly contrary Australian consumer law.  The problem is that I can only charge the device with the supplied charger.  The first issue is the charger is excessively heavy and bulky.  Why does the world's slimest and lightest laptop have such a bulky charger.  It's comparable to the laptop itself.  This is just dumb! The second issue is I can't use the rest of my USB Type C set up including a large battery, and a charger in my car.  Nor can I use my phone charger.  So I have to drag the HP charger everywhere.  The third issue is that only 1 of the 3 ports actually charges other devices at the USB Type C spec.  The 2 lighting ports are not USB Type C at all - they are just 3.1 with a usb type c connector.  So they only charge the phone at 20 per cent, the phone won't transfer data, and various peripherals such as a bluetooth keyboard/mouse don't have enough juice to... Update: Installation successful, at the cost of one RAM module (remove from system), as suggested in this thread.
However, boot still fails with 2 modules in place.

Original Post:
Hello, my version of Windows 7 has failed to install, both at boot and within windows XP. The in-OS install failed, generically stating that it couldn't read the files it was looking for. (It REALLY needs a details tab for IT experts. It could have been my raid drivers, which seem to be running afoul in other OS's...s) The boot install didn't even start stating that my BIOS was not fully compatible with APCI.
However it is a feature-laden Gigabyte model from this year! There are no BIOS updates in regards to ACPI.

MA790TX-UD4P motherboard....

In my next installation attempt I will mount the ISO with Emulation and install from there, at least until restart.

Full system specs in my profile...

Edit: I've taken a look at this thread, I should note that I have no onboard video and only have access to an Nvidia 9800 GT with this motherboard.
I will attempt the removal of the 2nd DIMM as suggested on page 2.

Answer:ACPI Compliance Failure? REALLY?

Welcome SI5K,

Sounds like you have been reading some posts first, good start. Must give you a for having your system specs in place. I have found in several of my installs of Win7 that the Bios settings were rather confusing as to how ACPI was enabled or not. So I just made several attemps until I got the right one recognized by Win7 install. that's just one thought. What Build # of win7 are you installing? How did you burn the DVD? 4x speed? seems to work best for most members. You did not state how much memory you have, but you say you took 1 stick out & attempted an install.

No Over-clocking of CPU, right ?

We can start here & other members will jump in with their thoughts, also. Sounds like all the right hardware, just some minor bugs to configure correctly.

Hi odd question here and I am mad at my IT Manager !!

Being a network Admin in-charge, i want to enforce a few policies at help desk. One of them is, not to create any user account unless an email arrives from HR to HelpDesk, informing of the user's badge ID, the department he/she belongs to. The status of employment and all those things. The procedures are in place but sometimes it so happens that some head of the Dept. call our IT Manager over the phone, or send him an email directly whcih is then forwarded to our Help Desk incharge who is then left with little options but to create the account without due processes.

HelpDesk incharge is bound by his position to defy IT manager and he is scared to tell me (sometimes he does) that IT manager is forcing him to dilute the AD account creation policy.

I don't want to confront IT manager based upon inputs by Helpdesk guys but would rather put a mechanism in place, where I would automatically come to know, that an account has been created and I can ask helpdesk to provide proof of the email from HR arbitrarily and then confront the manager.

I know some Audit trails can be put and they would appear under Securty tab of Event manager ( or so I guess) but I need something more automated that would land in my mailbox.

Is this possible?

Is this so people use their services to become compliant? PCI non-compliance email

you have to be compliant if you want people to be able to pay for services via credit card
if you fail the scan, you should get a list of what failed so you can remedy those.

Here's my situation. We have 4 systems that get remotely used. How ever we have been upgrading to be PCI-DSS compliant. We now need a way for these specific users to gain remote access to their desktops. Here are my thoughts but not sure which is best. So I'm just looking for your quick thoughts on this.

1. VPN that is PCI compliant. Then remote desktop from within the VPN. Would this still be PCI compliant? We have a Netgear FV338 router that is VPN pci compliant, but 60 bucks a client.

2. Use a 3rd party app such as go to my pc. That claims to be PCI compliant. I find these to vulnerable to changes in PCI compliancy. Will these actually pass our test?

I am just looking for options or if anyone has come across this situation?

No, there is no certification required.  However, you do need to be fully aware of the HIPAA laws and the security systems on the computer and any transference of data must be HIPAA compliant.

The two people in my company in charge are likely to dump it on me, with less than two weeks remaining for compliance. One of them believes Firefox is a firewall, the other could not find the power button on a laptop...

For 9 months they have worked to keep me out of meetings to get the company up to code, and now that the contractors are telling them they need to do most of this work, which they are refusing to do, I surely believe I will be assigned to do this.

Go over their heads, see what their management says about how they haven't been including you in mandatory project meetings and then expect you to do all the work. Hello, I'm considering purchasing the Lenovo laptop listed here: The audio board is listed as a generic "soundcard" with a Conexant cx20561 audio codec driver installed. Does this mean that the audio is HD? Is the audio board in fact a Realtek? Also, would that configuration be Windows XP Directsound compliant? I need that specification for an app I wish to install on the machine. TIA!

I am having a issue playing Blu Ray disks. I continue to get a HDCP compliance error everytime I try to play a Blu Ray video.  I am using arcsoft TMT6 on windows 7. I checked to make sure my monitor and video card are both HDCP compliant, and they both are. I used to be able to watch Blu Ray movies, and I'm not sure what changed, or why I cant watch them now. Also, I used cyberlink BluRay advisor and it said my "software player was not found" and "video connection type is digital without HDCP". Those are the only two problems found. I have a HP 2310 series wide lcd display and have a ATI Radeon HD 5570 video card, and am using a HDMI cable to the monitor. Can someone please help me with this.

Answer:HDCP Compliance Issue, Everything is Compliant Though???

Hi Eric,   The Cyberlink BD Advisor only look for a Cyberlink BD software player.  You might very well have a perfectly good BD HDCP certified software player and Cyberlink won't indicate that you have it.  Your non-Cyberlink BD player might need updating to play the new BD titles.  The other issue might be a loose or faulty HDMI cable, a bad video card, corrupted video driver or a monitor problem. Power off the PC and monitor. Check the cables for tightness.  Be sure that you monitor has only one video connection and that it is a HDMI cable. Now try a monitor reset by unplugging the monitor's power cord and then hold down the power button for 30 seconds.  If you still have issues then try reinstalling the video card driver or installing the latest AMD driver from the AMD web site.

I have been trying to make my web pages 3WC / 4.01 compliant and viewable as much as possible across different browsers (albeit not perfectly)

I have been to http://AnyBrowser.Com and checked my pages in their site viewer. I have looked at the 3WC homepage and their markup Validation service at

Basically according to all the above, my pages look like crap and have heaps of errors.

I have located the online HTML Tidy service at:

I have used this HTML Tidy in combination with the Site Viewer at and the Validator at 3WC.

After having reviewed and noted results of my existing pages in the Site Viewer and the Validator, I put my pages through the HTML Tidy, Copied the Page Source, pasted this into Dreamweaver and uploaded new pages.

I have put these new pages back through the Site Viewer and the Validator only to find that the pages are MUCH worse than they were before.

Even in the 3WC Validator the code entered by HTML Tidy is noted as errors (ex: Doc Type is replaced by Tidy code etc).

I can't understand why HTML Tidy would allow this to happen if it is indeed supposed to promote the 3WC compliance?

I am thinking that my only option at this point is to delete my HTML Tidy pages, go back to the originals and go through the errors listed in the 3WC Validator and manually fix them one by one...which (even with the error explanations handy) I am not sure that I can do properly (or indeed ... I have a few clients that need to be HIPAA compliant. I know what HIPAA is, but everytime I try to find a set of guidelines online, I come up more confused than when I started.

What are some of the basic guidelines for HIPAA compliant email and storing data on workstations, servers, backups, and offsite?

They currently have an Exchange server handling their email. But the owner wants to do away with it and use an external host because the Exchange server is a lot of maintenance, when the company only has a few employees and no full-time IT staff. I also need to help him figure out the best route for backups and some offsite solution. I can do offsite backups for him, and it is encrypted. I just don't know what will/won't meet HIPAA requirements. It scares me away from serving health-related clients. I take security as seriously as I am allowed to by the business owners.

Answer:HIPAA compliance basics for email and data storage

I dont know anything about the HIPAA....BUT, I can help you with exchange hosting. I work for 2 companies. One company owns the other one, so i manage both of them. I'm the in house IT. One of them has been using USA.NET for their exchange hosting. Awesome company, great customer service, no issues whatsoever. The only downside is their price. It's like $16.95 per user per month for only 250 MB of storage. Not alot of space!! We have just been archiving the user's emails pretty often to get the emails off of the server. Also, If you want blackberry support it's an extra like $5.00 a month.

The other company i manage..we have an in house Novell GroupWise's been a real pain in the ass to support this thing, and keep it up and running. Sometimes it abends..sometimes not..Anyway, long story short: we've been having the discussions of moving to exchange. At first it was all about hosting it ourselves, maybe even move the other company off of and onto another in house exchange server.

Then we stumbled on to Microsoft's hosted exchange solution. Yes, Microsoft themselves have their own exchange's only $5.00 per user per month..and that gives you 25 GB's of storage!!! Activesync is free. BlackBerry use costs $10.00 extra per user per month, which makes no sense, but i'm sure it's just the BB license fees. So, when we do this, we will probably move away from BlackBerrys, just bec... Read more

I'm trying to repair install Windows 7 but every time I'm getting the error "An error prevented a required compliance check from completing". There are many badblocks (like 70 or more) in my 500GB hard disk, but I checked for it (using chkdsk) few weeks ago. Please help.

Answer:An error prevented a required compliance check from completing

The hard drive is prime suspect. Run the maker's HD Diagnostic CD scan followed by another full Disk Check. If either fail again then I'd replace the HD because you can never trust one after it has failed both tests. I would even replace it if it failed Disk Check with that many errors. You didn't say if they were all repaired. If not then it should have already been replaced.

Receiving this error on a Windows 10 machine. I've uninstalled/installed from the device manager. Disabled/Enabled from device manager. Windows says drivers are up to date. Same message from multiple thumb drives. It's only doing it on the front USB port. Not the ones in the back of the computer. Stumped.

Answer:Unknown USB device (link in compliance mode) error message

I'm running Windows 10 Pro on a self-built desktop, and nearly every time I log in, I get a "The Last USB device you plugged in experienced an error". It's very annoying. I'm certain this stems from an Unknown USB device in my device manager. To be specific, it says "Unknown USB Device (Link In Compliance Mode)". I know that in normal situations, you'd simply unplug and re-plug whatever device was having the issue. Problem is, I can't figure out what device this is referring to! I've unplugged everything, one device at a time, to see if that listing removed itself. Nothing. I even made sure to test with the devices using internal USB headers for case USB ports, media card reader, etc. I can remove ALL my USB devices, and that device listing is still there. I'm guessing it's some sort of integrated motherboard USB device. My bios and all my device drivers, including USB drivers are up to date. The properties for this entry in the device manager says the following:----------Unknown USB Device (Link In Compliance Mode) Device Type: Universal Serial Bus ControllersManufacturer: (Standard USB Host Controller)Location: Port_#0022.Hub_#0001 Device Status:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)The SuperSpeed link to the USB device keeps going to an error state Compliance. If the device is removable, remove the device and then disable/enable from device manager to recover.----------Under "Details" I chec... Read more

I have installed EMET 5.1 on Windows 2012R2 member server that I am testing for compliance.
Also, admin template file (EMET.admx) has been added to PolicyDefinitions folder in sysvol.
I can see in GPRESULT output that EMET policies have been applied and I can see in REGEDIT that EMET keys have been created.
For some reason, that I am trying to find out, when scanning with Nessus and using DISA _STIG_Server_2012_MS_v1r3.audit policy definitions, it fails every EMET-related  item.

Does anyone else have the same problem? What is the remedy?

I have either a bad mobo or bad cpu. Can I put a Celron 1.3ghz in a mobo that has a 600mhz (both are 370 sockets) to test it? Could I also test a mobo by installing a slower cpu? What would happen?

I have a 32 bit windows 10 and x86 based pc but x64 based processor, originally it was a windows 10 64 bit and x64 based pc but my hard drive broke and got bad sector,it got fixed my a computer fixer but he installed 32 bit instead of 64 bit,i have a windows 10 x64 installtion media but when i run it it says it cannot run on my pc,i really wanna go back to 64 bit because only 2.60gb of my ram is usable out of 4gb

Answer:Wndows 10 x86,x86 based PC but x64 based processor,can it go x64

It could be because of some driver or other HW but if processor is 64bit (and it is), 64bit OS should run on it without problems.

Hi, I'm currently running a Windows 10 Pro PC with a 32-bit architecture. My processor allows for a x64 upgrade, but my system's information shows that my PC is x86 based. Can I still upgrade? I also have 6.00 gigabytes of ram, definitely enough for an upgrade.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:x64-based processor, but x86-based PC; can I upgrade to x64 bit?

No you cannot upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit one. You can however, clean install a 64-bit system instead of the 32-bit one.

So I opened my system monitor just for the heck of it this morning and when I did so I noticed I had the cnql1213.dnl power-pc based THING running on my intel-based mac. I see it is something called a Vundogrb. My question is can I just delete this or is there more that I need to do to successfully rid myself of it. I used to use Windows, in fact I still do sometimes for my laptop, but most of the time I used my Mac and so long since I really worried about this stuff that I'm not sure exactly what to do with it?Can you tell me something about this creepy intruder and how I need to deal with it?Thanks.

Answer:A PC based spy on an Intel-based Mac 10.11.14 Tiger
