Application error every time a program closes

Question: Application error every time a program closes

Hi all,

I'm having a rather strange issue that I haven't been able to trace, mostly because although the error itself makes sense to me, I have no idea what it means.

I'm using Windows XP pro, 32 bit with service pack 3 on an HP 8510W notebook. Recently I noticed that every time I closed a program, or a program exited properly, I received an error that looked something like this.

notepad.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x00bb1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x03051f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

taskmgr.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x009c1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
And so on, with everything from Reaper to firefox to Task Manager. I've also noticed two other things, which are:
A. this error never occurs if I manually end the task from within task manager or tskill, only when the program legitimately exits.
B. The first hex value always changes, but the second value, the memory being referenced, always stays the same.

This windows install has had some issues in the past anyway, and I'm two steps from installing windows 7 on this thing as it is. The only thing stopping me is a lack of knowledge about how to install windows while preserving documents and data from the old windows install, since I currently do not own a working external drive.

However, if anyone has any idea what might be causing this, or even a method for finding out, I'll welcome your suggestions.

Preferred Solution: Application error every time a program closes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Application error every time a program closes

1) Install Windows 7 if compatible. 2) Is this the same machine that was infected with malware?"THe only thing stopping me is a lack of knowledge about how to install windows while preserving documents and data from the old windows install, since I currently do not own a working external drive."If there is no external media to save the data to, this may present an issue: There may be a workaround, but this may also be forthcoming....One could (I suppose) create a partition on the HDD to house the data. Use the other partition to install Windows; then access the "backup" partition affterward.I would suggest imaging the HDD before continuing this journey. One never knows; I have seen a lot of strange things and it is allways recomended to have a quick mulligan on hand.

Every single time I try to print something, I get a white error box that says WordPad, AOL, NotePad, Paint, (or which ever program I try - it happens with all programs ) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error signature:
AppName: wordpad.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.1106 ModName: hpzntp07.dll
ModVer: 2.140.0.0 Offset: 00026403

Can someone please help me asap? I cant print anything at all because of this. I have a Dell, WinXP.
Thank you

Answer:Get Application error every time I try to print, regardless of which program I use

Which HP printer are you using?

If Windows XP detected and used its own drivers, you should download the up-to-date drivers. (hpzntp07.dll is a HP driver)

I've had an ongoing problem with application errors that say the following:

<app name.exe> - Application Error
The instruction at "0x036...." referenced memory at "0x00000ba0". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I've run HJT before and others couldn't find anything. I've significantly cleaned up my PC, currently uninstalled about 4-5 different spyware/adware programs (at the instruction of a MS tech support person who's trying to help me integrate SP2 back into my c:/ with no luck ). But, someone on the XP forum suggested I run HJT again and copy the log so here it is. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to listening. I get this error message when exiting out of almost every application or browser I have. Can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks!

I don't see major here...Did you install anything before this happened? Perhaps IE 7.0?

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/LSPFix.exe and run it. Check the box that says 'I know what I'm doing'. Click on inetcntrl.dll on the left window and then click on the arrow pointing to the right. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

I am using Windows XP and this scenerio just started happening. Using Outlook, I get the attached error message when trying to read or send mail. When using PageMaker, I get the same message when trying to export a PDF. I suspected a virus, but everything comes up clean. Ram & memory issues are OK. Seems there is no apparent reason nor any specific chain of events that make this occur. I am new to XP and have been running this os for about 6 months. This is the first I've had anything unusual happen.

Please advise.

Answer:Error Pop Up Each Time Opening A Application

Hello ah_wei and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It appears that there are multiple anti-virus applications running on this computer (Kapersky and AVG). Running more than 1 anti-virus application at the same time can cause file access and resource issues and if there is an infection the multiple programs can actually block each other from dealing with the infected file(s). I highly recommend that you choose which application you want to keep and uninstall the other one(s) to prevent these problems. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it... Read more

I took the upgrade path from Build 10122 to 10130, but every time I shut down, I get this application error message after the desktop closes. I have to click OK to terminate the program to shut the machine down.

This is the first time I've seen this error, and I'm looking to see if anyone is familiar with this and if there is a fix I can make to correct it.

Answer:Explorer.exe - Application Error every time I shut down

That may be one of the problems, with NOT doing a Clean Install. (corrupted files)

So you can always try downloading the ISO, burning a DVD and then doing a Clean Install.
Well, that's what I'd do anyway. Heck, that's what I always do, and so far, since January, I've not had any problems with any of the Windows 10 builds, from 9926 to 10135.

After a Clean install, if you have any problems, it's usually some little bit that got miss-read during the install. So you just reformat and install again and that usually fixes things.

Good Luck!

I'm having the same problem. I have to reboot each time the ccApp.exe application error comes up. Like for you it blocks Outlook's send/receive.Originally I thought the problem was due to a conflict between NIS and Spybot. Because I believe that viruses are more dangerous than spyware, and NIS includes antispyware, I decided to uninstall Spybot. It had no effect.I called Norton Symantec about the problem and the tech insisted it was due to a virus. He said it would cost $99 to have the antivirus team remove it. In response to my comment that I thought it was wrong for Norton Symantec to charge for a virus that their own program missed, they said no program is 100% effective at catching viruses. I believed this argument and decided to pay the fee for all the trouble it would cost me. I spent hours on the phone, repeated telling the same problem many times to many techs over several days, ran antivirus scans from online and from my computer, there were no viruses, cleaned out temp file, unloaded and reloaded NIS 2006, they bothched up intenal communication records, gave me erroneous instructions that they had to correct, and in the end said they had exhaused their solutions, would research it and call me back in 48 hours. They never did. An email to the supervisor resulted in no response. I lost $99 and all the time spent following instructions they read from decision tree manuals.I believe this problem has a simple solution for someone who is computer savvy. Because the proble... Answer:"Reboot each time the ccApp.exe application error comes up."

The best way to eliminate problems with Norton, is to use the removal tool, ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...a/removal_toolsthere are two listed, use the one for your OS. Once this has been run, restart the computer and use a different anti virus here is a list of what I consider to be the best: Nod32, Kapersky, Panda, Trend Micro, F Secure, Avast Free, AVG Free, Avira Free, Bitdefender, I am sure that I will miss some. Norton does not play well with others, and is becoming a pain in the arse for many people., thanks, DC3, I agree, this also includes McAfee. FWIW, the most infected machines that I get at my shop always seem to be using Norton or McAfee.

I cannot even write this from my own computer as the web site blocks! Event Viewer shows long lists of Application Hang errors, none for Internet Explorer. I?m using IE 7, Windows XP Professional,2002, Service pack 2.

Ok first im gunna need to check how much RAM you have left avaliable do this by:
1. Go to Start and click Run
2. Type "dxdiag" and click OK
3. Click the Save ALL Information
4. On this forum you'll need to upload the file as a attachment. The file will probably be saved to your desktop and will be named "DxDiag.txt".

I have a Y700-34ISH Desktop (ideacentre) - Type 90DF00B2MW, and the "Driver and Installation Application" program is installed. When I clicked on the driver menu it showed a bunch of items, which I went ahead and installed. It asked me to restart the PC, but after I did the items are still showing.

1. What is happening?
2. What are the benefits of this program?
3. Is it ok to uninstall it if I don't want those benefits?

EDIT: It seems like this program "updated" several drivers to older versions. At least that happened with Geforce, and I also had to reassign my headset as the preferred output in the sound settings.

Confusing stuff like this doesn't make one happy after spending $1500 on a new PC.

Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

I posted this on the security board last night, but I haven't gotten any response. I'm not sure if it's a security problem, a software problem, or a windows problem, so hopefully someone on this board can help...

I'm working with Windows XP w/Internet explorer.

The problem: My dial-up ISP has been running super slow recently. It is close call america (it's a small company), and I connect through a software program we installed with a CD they sent us (you open their program, which then dials and connects). This was maybe 3 years ago, and we haven't had any problems.

I went into the network settings to change the phone # we were using to connect. It then dialed the number, not going through the software. It came back with an error message, which wasn't surprising.

But now, when I double-click the software icon to open the software to start the dialing, the little box comes up (like the icon/ad box NetZero uses but with no ad), the little box that usually says "dialing" flashes up (doesn't start dialing), then disappears, and the entire application shuts down.

I've restarted the computer, I've checked my username and password. I tried reinstalling the CD software but I get a runtime error. I tried setting up a new connection and doing it without the software, but it gives me some sort of "the server doesn't recognise you" error. I've tried calling their tech support, but they're obviousl... Read more

Answer:Index tab closes application help please

Hi vsmall. I've no idea what causes this behaviour. When mysterious behaviour such as this occurs it is usually a damaged file (probably a dll file) somewhere in the operating system. Trying to find which file is damaged is almost impossible and reinstalling the operating system is usually the easiest solution. If you occasionally post to this thread, you will keep pushing it to the top of the page, and hopefully someone will recognise the problem and be able to offer more useful advice than I can.

Back again with a new problem.

Suppose I have an VB.NET application. When the user exits this application( either by using the exit button provided in the application or by closing the application), he should be simply logged out. The other desktop options should not be available.

Is there a way to do this???

A person is using Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP. When she has a webpage open (with a company web application) if she opens another window and uses that for a few seconds, the window with the web app closes. Is there an error log created somewhere by Internet explorer?

Answer:Internet Explorer closes/crashes on particular web application

This computer is used by a company. I thought the idea behind online applications is that they're platform independent? Also it's company policy to use I.E. 7 because I.E. 8 hasn't been tested. This is my first job :approve: is it typical for a company to use old programs because I thought it would be more dangerous?

I am continually getting the error "Run Time error 1004: Application defined or object defined error," each time a user clicks one of the cells within this excel file. It comes up as apparently a visual basic error. I've search other sites and unfortunately do not know enough about macros or excel formulas to know what to do next, so I thought I would post about it here. One user apparently has no trouble opening it while every other user has the same issue. Here is the debug code:

Private Sub Worksheet_Deactivate()

End Sub

Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Excel.Range)
Cells.Interior.ColorIndex = -4142
Target.EntireRow.Interior.ColorIndex = 8
Target.EntireColumn.Interior.ColorIndex = 8
End Sub

The "Cells.Interior.ColorIndex = -4142" portion is highlighted in yellow, so I assume that's where the error is. From there, I'm not sure what to do to change it. Please let me know as soon as possible what direction I should take.

Thanks

Answer:run time error 1004 application defined or object defined error

To be honest...I would assume that the file is corrupt and try to replace it. All seemingly meaningful links on this error involve VBA coding and things that can go wrong with it...way overhead my head and out of my interest arena .

If it truly is a coding error (as seems implied), I would take it to the originator of that file, since it throws an error.

Very strange that e pluribus unum...manages to use it without problems .

Hello tialaree3, and  to Bleeping Computer!  We need to scan your computer with the Windows System File Checker:
The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) scans the integrity of all protected Windows system files and replaces corrupted, modified, or incorrect versions with the correct versions if possible.Note: Be aware that if you have modified your system files as in theming explorer/system files, running sfc /scannow will revert the system files such as explorer.exe back to it's default state.Note: Make the appropriate backups of your system files that you have modified for theming if you wish to save them before running sfc /scannow.For Windows Vista / 7:
Click the Windows Start Orb in the bottom-left
In the search box, type cmd
Right-click on the search result cmd.exe then click Run as Administrator
Next:
Copy and paste the following line of text into the black box:note: to paste, right-click in the black box and choose Paste
sfc /scannow

Press Enter to run the commandnote: this scan may take a while to finish, and if SFC reports that it could not fix something, run the command again to see if it may be able to the next time. Sometimes it may take running the sfc /scannow command 3 or more times to completely fix everything that it is able to.
We need to retrieve the System File Checker log:
Click the Windows Start Orb in the bottom-left
In the search box, type cmd
Right-click on the search result cmd.exe then click Run as Administrator

Answer:run time error when installing program - cannot import DLL??

Are you running the installation file straight from the internet or are you saving the file to your PC and then run it directly from your hard disk? Try saving the file first by right clicking the link and choosing "Save Target As" and select your save location. After downloading try clicking on the newly saved file. Also disable your anti-virus software since it appears to think the file is malicious.

Rollin

Recently, I have been getting an odd pop-up error anytime I open a program. The box appears with (for example) "firefox.exe - Bad Image" in the title bar, followed by the following message: "C:\PROGRA-1\Google\GOOGLE-3\GO36F4-1.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." This happens anytime a new program or service is started (I see one right before I enter my login password, at least 10 of these once I have logged on). However, except for the annoying pop ups, the computer and whatever I try to run (so far, anyway) works normally. The program I am trying to open runs once the pop up is closed. AVG and sfc have found nothing (The file name being mentioned makes me suspect some form of malware that AVG can't catch), and I'm open to suggestions.I'd like to send whatever this is packing, and a big thank you in advance to whoever can point me in the right direction. Here are my DDS (I saw at least 50 of those "Bad Image" errors during the DDS scan, which was otherwise successfully completed) and GMER logs, in that order: (I'll gladly provide any other information that I can if needed).DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Tony at 12:52:19.49 on Sat 05/07/2011Internet Explorer: 9.0.8112.16421Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7600.0.1252.1... Hello. I have noticed that an application/window opens and then closes immediately on my computer about once every 15 minutes. You can see for a split second the new bar in the start bar for the window but then it just disappears. This is especially annoying when playing video games, because it minimizes the games for the new window, and it just disappears anyway.

Is there any way I can see a list of opened applications or windows and in what orders and what times? Thanks

Unknown Application secretly opens/closes IE window

I have IE Privacy Keeper installed and set to Auto Clean Up when the last Internet Explorer window is closed and set to show the ?Cleaning up ?? message. When I first connect to the Internet via my ISP (Wal-Mart Connect) and before I open any Internet Explorer window, the ?Cleaning up ?? message from IE Privacy Keeper flashes on my screen. This tell me that some application on my hard drive has secretly opened an Internet Explorer window and then closed that window within the span of a few seconds, presumably to pass information stored on my computer to someone connected to the Internet.

I?ve read and performed the How to: Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407) with no luck on fixing the problem. Please tell me how I can find out which application(s) on my hard drive are secretly opening an Internet Explorer window and then closing that window. Thanks.

Answer:Unknown Application secretly opens/closes IE window

Welcome

It is very important that you at least try to do everything in the READ ME. If you still have a problem then do the following:

Please try to turn OFF any applications that are not needed It makes it much easier to look at the HJT log.
Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99.1 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, INCLUDING YOUR WEB BROWSER, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Good Luck

This may go along with the other post I started here and it may not. That is where you come in.

The company I just started working for is using a program that uses a Access Database with all of the info in it. This program was written in what I believe is Crystal language according to what I have gathered from doc types. It gives reports in .rpt format and I saw something else that said Crystal and so I looked it up and it was a language. The doc type is also a crystal report doc type apparently.

This program accesses the database and brings up model numbers and info about it. Now, normally we can put in these 3 fields needed and hit add to batch, then print batch and it will print. Something happened where now if we do it, once we hit print I get,

"Runtime error 3421- Data Type Conversion Error"

Apparently before the error this time, they would enter a letter or something instead of a number and it would give an error message. It would still show up in the access report though. Then my boss would go into the database and delete the bad entries and apparently it would work again.

Now we are having an issue where we get this error no matter what. They put in the same 3 fields as numbers and this error pops up. I cannot figure out why it is doing this and the program is basically useless right now. These entries are not showing up in the database either. We deleted all of the old entries that were made into the database and nothing... Read more

Answer:Run time error 3421 when using program that uses Access Database

WELL I FIXED IT! It was indeed an issue where an extra letter not a number got typed into a quantity field. Instead of being "6" it was "6B". I deleted the B and everything started working. I can't believe it was that easy. The reason I didn't catch it earlier was because it was in a completely different file than the one it uses to pull the information from. Apparently my boss didn't know that or whatever I am not sure. The program was open and so the access file was locked but I saw another access file was also locked. So I decided to see what that file was and I noticed the lookups in a table that we were trying to do every time we got an error. I then noticed the "6B" pretty fast and thought, no way it could have been this easy. But of course it was. Like it always is. He just told me that he used the other file. Well now I know!

hi guys iv just joined techguy as i have a very annoying problem that i have.

every time i try and open a new program or window, a message comes up:

for example when opening firefox

firefox.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\System32\ctl3dv232.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact you system administrator or the software vendor for support.

this has been happening for a couple of days now, i started when norton sercurity detected a trojan horse. it seemed to delete it (im not 100% sure) but every since then i have been getting this message. it even appears before the log in screen on vista, and as i turn off my computer.

i read a little bit on the internet and thought that norton could have damaged some of the files on my computer. i downloaded CCleaner to clean the registry integrity, which includes missing dll files, but nothing has changed. my computer came preinstalled with vista, so i dont have a disc to insert and try and restore any damaged files(if thats what happened).

i would greatly appreciate any help as to what is causing this and how to solve it.

Hello Everyone!,
My desktop is currently running into an issue where it will crash (BSOD) at random times doing just about any program, the screen will basically become jumbled up/turn into Lines for a second and then BSOD to the Stop Error. I have included the Minidump file, JcGriff File, and Health and systems report as per the BSOD posting instructions.

My Basic system Specs include-
Windows 7 Professional x64 ( installation itself is about 2.3 years old and its Retail)
Age of System - Varies (Oldest component is 2.3 years old [AMD Phenom II X6 1090T], newest is only about 3 months [Asus DirectCU 6870s])

2 x SSD (C300 and M4)
1x 750GB SATA II HDD
2x DVD/CD-RW - R Combo Drives
1x Rosewill RNX Wireless NIC

(Also I noticed in the Perfmon it says it cannot detect an Antivirus Program, although I do possess one [AVG Internet Security 2012])

Any Help would be Greatly Aprreciated!

Answer:Lumia 920 browser closes all the time

I don't have an answer for you, but I've had that as well. I figured it had to do with me sliding my fingers across the screen somehow, and closing them, but I could be wrong.
The 830 does it sometimes too. The 930 never did.
Because of that, I figured it must have to do with high sensitivity settings on the IPS screen, and my clumsy digits, but I could be wrong.

Just confirmed that the warning when closing multiple tabs works. When several tabs are open and I close IE with the red X button, the warning works. But when multiple tabs are open and I close just one of them, IE 7 just closes.

The other day I downloaded reg cleaner, installed it, tried to open it, and my screen went black for 2 seconds like it was loading it up and then went back to my emty desktop screen like I never even tried to open it.

I just downloaded the BF2 demo & installed it.

I click to open it & screen goes black for 2 seconds and then is back to my normal desktop.

I right click on it & it says which user account to use?

I only have one account, there is a box there to tick or untick saying something about ticking it will prevent viruses but may make the program run incorrectly, whether it is ticked or not it won't open.

I disabled all unnessary services on this computer by going to start -> run -> services.msc -> enter........ I have researched and found safe to disable according the the windows xp tweak companion, I don't know if thats what it is or what.

Any ideas?

Hi Opferslayer.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup program before you upload another zip.

Im trying to boot up a program that runs through the command prompt, and now instead of functioning, it just instant-closes when launched. I can see the window for a split second, but it's as if something in the background is killing it.

I've gone through the usual suspects, uac, anti-virus, windowsfirewall.. I can't figure out what's causing this, and it's imperative that I get this up and running, as the tool is necessary for game server development.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense as the program is listed to work perfectly with windows version 8.1,8, 7,Vista, XP, etc. I know there isn't much to go off of here, but the site which owns/distributes the program is primarily in Russian, as is their forums.. So that's out too.

Any advice?

EDIT: After I posted this thread Mozilla Firefox instantly closed down so I'm now using my brother's computer.

The main problem is I can't run a spyware scanner. I open up spybot and it closes automatically when I try to scan. Then I tried adaware and before it finished loading it closed for some reason. Then I thought about trying an internet based one so I went for the trend micro one and as soon as I clicked the link to it my internet closed.

Anyways, here's my log:

Well i am in vista FINAL and i open dreamweaver it opens to the loadin screen then it closes automaticly anybody know why????? THANKS!!
FIXed for those looking the future here is how
Dreamweaver 8 does not launch
Issue

Some users are reporting that Dreamweaver 8 does not launch. The common characteristic is that the splash screen appears momentarily, then the application closes. Some users report being able to launch Dreamweaver 8 two or three times before experiencing the problem, while some users were never able to launch Dreamweaver 8. (Ref. 201530)
Solution

Here are some steps that should resolve the problem. Try the steps in descending order. Close Dreamweaver before performing each suggestion, and launch it again after performing each suggestion, to see if the problem is solved.
Windows

1. The Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater resolved this issue for most users. Install the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater as it includes all of the fixes in the 8.0.1 update, plus additional recommended fixes.
2. Try renaming the Dreamweaver user configuration folder, so that Dreamweaver will automatically generate a new user configuration folder the next time Dreamweaver launches. The Configuration folder is located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration
3. Recreate your Dreamweaver user settings in the registry as follows:
* Launch the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button, choose Run, then type "regedit". In th... Read more

When I am either on Google Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer on my laptop, the window shuts down, and says close program. After clicking this, the internet windows closes and goes back to the desktop page. When this happens, small white pages appear on the desktop screen, and whenever I try to click on anything such as settings or a program, it doesn't work, meaning I have to hold down the power button to switch it off. Also, when it is turned back on, sometimes the screen comes up in a different colour.
I have done a system restore, which worked successfully, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this problem.

I always use Alt-Tab to switch between programs.  I like all the programs to show in a pane while I think about things, and often select the one I want by using the mouse.  However, on the new T440s running Windows 7, the pane of program images vanishes after 1 to 3 seconds (seems to alternate) while I am still holding the Alt key down.  This is not an AeroPeek issue as If I disable AeroPeek in System Advanced Settings, the XP-style pane of program icons also disappears after the same interval. I need answers here urgently, as the computer is basically unusable in its present state.  I have approached Lenovo Support ([email protected]) and they refuse to answer or direct me to someone who can help.

Answer:Alt-Tab program pane closes while still pressing on Alt key

Does Ctrl+Alt+Tab (hold no buttons afterwards) make the alt+tab selector stay onscreen indefinitely?

Answer:Undeletable Email?closes program?

One method you could use to delete this e-mail is to select the message above the one you are trying to delete, hold down shift and select the one below. Now delete all three messages while holding down shift again. This will delete them without first sending them to the deleted mails folder.

I have a small program (shareware game) that runs well even with other apps open. It is mostly text based, does not use extensive video and sound resources. After I close it, other apps may run erratically or be slow to respond. I have checked for viruses. The windows task manager shows no unexpected programs or procedures. I notice no big drop in memory. Re-booting fixes everything. I don't need this program and it isn't worth the hassle but would like to understand what it is doing. Are there any tools that will show me? I am running windows xp. Thanks for any thoughts.

Answer:Can a program leave something in memory after it closes?

run task manager before you start the game, have a look at the running processes. Start the game and have another look, see what has changed. Exit the game and see if some of the processes started by the game are still running. If so right click and stop process. See if that helps. Have a look at the memory used column

At start up of my win xp laptop I get a "window" open and then close. The window is very small, but if I hover over the place it appears on startup with my mouse it appears somewhere else, so I am unable to click on the window. Its difficult to tell but I would say my boot time has increased and that it is running slower. This is noticeable on the speed of my php programming environment. The debugger is getting painfully slow at times.

I have attempted to track down the problem with several programs: Malwarebytes, Super Anti Sptware, aswMBR, and others, this last one appears to have highlighted a .sys file that changes its name every time I run the program after a reboot. Its a variation of sp??.sys were ? is the variable letter; in the example from the log below it's spgf.sys.

I am completely happy with my Win 7 Pro x64. Recently I noticed my monitors screen blackening. I went straight to Power Options in the Control panel and found my settings of never turn off monitor and never turn off pc. because I have had a bad infected time I had lots of antivirus programs and optimizers. Now my power settings are okay but something is changing the computer. How does it do it. I've gone through checking the optimizers and removing them but the monitor still blacks-out. I can't believe the antivirus programs would be allowed to change my settings. I have always believed Win 7 Pro is so well for the user .Any help please?

Answer:Some program has changed my monitor times so it closes down

Three things come to mind, assuming this is a config issue: 1) power settings, 2) screen saver settings, 3) video drivers

Hi

When I right-click on the title bar of a window or program in my
desktop computer, I don't get the usual context menu. Instead, the
window or program closes without warning.

This is not true in my laptop, only in my desktop.

Right-clicking anywhere else produces a context menu, as it should.

I have checked my mouse settings. Right-click is set to 'context
menu/alternate select'.

I would like to get my mouse back to behaving properly when I
right-click on title bars. Any ideas?

Answer:ritght click on title bar closes program

Hi, Mary, and welcome to the TSG forums.

Try this:

Open a COMMAND prompt (looks like a DOS window). If you don't know how to do that, then click on Start > Run > and type CMD in the box, then press Enter. A DOS-type of window should open.

In the DOS-type window (usually BLACK with WHITE lettering), type this:

CHKDSK /F

and then press ENTER.

Just to clarify things, that is the letters CHKDSK, followed by a SPACE, followed by a forward-slash, followed by the letter F.

When you press ENTER, the system will run some checks and THEN tell you that it CAN'T fix the system files until you reboot, and you will need to press the "Y" key, followed by ENTER, in order to make Windows run the CheckDisk program at the next bootup.

Once that is done, close the DOS-type window, close any open programs, and reboot the system. CheckDisk will run at bootup and will (hopefully) be able to correct any problems you might have with the file system.

Be sure to post back here and let us know what happens.

Good luck - HTH

Is it possible to get Task Scheduler to run programs after another program is closed?

What I was thinking is, it would be great to be able to get CCleaner and/or an AV program to run automatically, after shutting down IE8, Firefox or other browser.
It would be an excellent way to protect a PC from nasties.

I forgot to clean my cache the other day and my email got hijacked.

You can do first in Control Panel=>Internet Options => Check the box, Delete Browser History on close, and in Parameters Tab, don't retain days of pages saved, set the cache to minimal 50Mb so it will erase itself while browsing.

When you click "Delete", check all Boxes except the one on top from the favorites Web Sites.

Again in your Intenet Options, don't authorize the password to be memorized.

This will help a lot the clean up when you close the browser, it is delayed 30seconds after you finished browsing.

It might be harder to do a task on demand, than this lite solution...Hope this help!

I am using Windows XP and the program causing me problems is Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 on a Dell. Every time I hit the minimize button it closes the program. I don't recall changing any of the settings.

Answer:Solved: Minimize button closes program

On the very upper right of the window in Outlook there is the Outlook logo. When you click on that you get the options to restore, minimize, close etc. Does choosing that option also close the program or can you minize from there?

So I was recently traveling with my laptop and had decided to bring my desktop mouse with me. After plugging it in I realized that at random intervals it would click on objects, in particular, selectable objects. My laptop is old, worn out, and had been overclocked more than was safe before I built a desktop. So I stopped using the mouse and thought nothing of it. Now my desktop is doing the same. Things become highlighted, links on pages get opened at random, and any, and at times all, currently opened programs will close, even if the mouse cursor is nowhere close. I updated and ran MBAM, with no results, Avast has found nothing.

Also, my mouse is a MS Sidewinder, so its very possible for something to get into its onboard memory.

Please Help ASAP. I have an Online FINAL TODAY, and I can't afford to have a close out in the middle of it, and this is my only computer with the required programs.

Every time I open C:\Program Files\, my explorer crashes.

I can go to any folder IN program files i.e. Start > Run... "C:\Program Files\2K Games" would work fine.

I don't understand why it's happening. I tried restoring system files through cmd sfc /scannnow and it found errors the 1st time, but it didn't change anything.

Any recommendations?

Answer:Program Files closes immediately after opening

Try going in to the folder in Safe Mode. You may have a problem with it's display options, such as the desktop.ini file.

Howdy, My name is Michael and here's my situation:

I'm running Windows XP: Home Edition. I upgraded my AOL Instant Messenger from v5.2.3292 to the lastest AIM release, v5.5.3595 . The upgrade installation went seemingly successful. Here is the problem, when I run aim the sign on screen loads up just fine but as soon as I click sign on or set-up, one of two things happens; 1) an error messege pops-up:

2) the program simply closes.

I tried fully uninstalling AIM and then redownloading the install file and installing again. The same problem occurs. I would also another error messege which looks something like a MSMessenger error I get on my CPU:

I tried a number of things. I tried d/ling the ntdll.dll file from an internet source and replacing the dll file in the windows/system32 folder. This didn't fix anything. I've also d/led all Windows critical updates. I'm stuck and I don't know how to help myself at this point except to post this messege and hope there is someone out there who can help me. Thank you so much in advance for your help. If I can provide you with more information please email me at

Please Can anybody help.... I am running XP Home SP2 and everytime I open my C drive it closes automatically, I can right click and Explore but then when I choose a subfolder it closes... I can only open something sucessfully by the run command prompt. The problem started when I Installed the CA viruse software, it found some trojans and I guess moved them to quarentine... I don't know if this is related but I also have to start my system in safe mode in order to install most programs, the programs try to access the registry folder and then they won't install. I also have to do this to install any Windows updates.... I read a prior solution that said to run a program called Hijack This I did so and here is the log file......

I can't remember the name of a free program that I used - it will close a window or running program that won't close, when you receive a message that says the program is in use. Anyone know which software this is?

Thanks.

I don't know how this happened, but it's terribly annoying. Everytime I open an application where I have to browse for a file to upload, it opens for 2 seconds and then closes the program completely. For instance, I tried to browse a file in my videos to upload a onto windows movie maker, and it completely closed windows movie maker and the my videos folder. I ran AVG Anti Virus, Malwarebytes, and nothing. I also tried to do a system restore, but I can't because I can't go back on the calendar to find a later date that my computer was restored. I'm so frustrated and I'm ready to throw my laptop out of the window. I think this started when I tried to download a dvd to avi converter called vidomi. Everything was fine until I downloaded and ran this. I deleted vidomi from my computer though.

Help Me Please!

I just downloaded Maplesea on my Vista, however, after I double click to open it, it just flash open on the task bar for one split second, then quickly closes back again? How can I open it? I've also tried to Run As Administrator but it doesn't work, all that happens is that my cursor changes to the "loading" cursor and nothing opens and the folder where I placed the game in, doesn't respond. Please help!

Answer:Unable to browse files to upload because it closes program

Hello -

I'm uncertain that any malware removal will address the issues you're describing. It may well be that justpassingby's recommendation of reinstall is still the path you'll end upon; however, I do see signs of an infection which warrants investigating.

I need a bit more information, please.

Download RSIT by random/random and save it to your desktop.
Double click RSIT.exe to start the tool and click Continue at the disclaimer.
When the scan completes it will open a log named log.txt maximized, and a log named info.txt minimized.
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of log.txt here.
Please attach info.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\rsit\info.txt

Click Upload.

I was downloading blender (game design program) and after it gets done downloading i get the choices open, open folder, cancel iv tried all of them. None of them do anything except close the download window, Then i find where i saved the program and click on it and all it does is open multiple internet explores and i have to shut down my computer to stop it. how can i get it so i am able to extract the files to use blender?

Answer:downloading something and the program only opens and closes internet explores

It sounds like something is horribly wrong with what ever you actually downloaded.
it should not respond or do what you are describing,
->> that is responding like nasty malware usually does...
I would stop trying to open it and tell us the full name of exactly what you downloaded,
with the link to where you got it from.
when you download something like that you should manually scan it with an anti-virus program.

Try disabling System Mechanic temporarily prior to updating your SATNAV - it could be conflicting.
