No sound coming through 'stereo mix' device

Question: No sound coming through 'stereo mix' device

Hi, as the title suggests I've got a bit of a sound problem:

I wish to record some of my digital sound (e.g. my friends in Skype) using Audacity and stereo mix. However, using the built-in stereo mix record feature Audacity has, no sound is being recorded. So I checked out the stereo mix device under 'recording devices' in 'Sound' and found that it was not detecting any sound at all.

I'm not totally sure as to how all it's settings must be, but it's like this now:

Listen to: enabled
Playback through: Speakers (Realtek HD Audio)

The device is set to be 'used' ofcourse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: No sound coming through 'stereo mix' device

Go to Edit -> Preferences and to the 'Audio I/O' or 'Devices' tab, and make sure the the audio INPUT is set to the source you want to hear from, in this case, the pc sound card or such, apparently Windows 7 does not change the input device when you select the Stereo Mix function for some reason.

If that's not the case, maybe your sound driver isn't allowing the stereo mix to work, you can try the Control Panel configuring method, which you can find at the audacity website (i can't set up links yet, but go to wiki.audacityteam.org/ and add this: index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel) [sorry for this, but it's for a good reason, i'm not a bot/spam ]
kind of a pain to read through and configure everything, but will fix the issue.

If you don't want any trouble at all, you can just plug you speaker in the PC's 'Line In' plug (the blue one), and set Audacity's Input device to "Line in" or such.

Good luck.

I want to record from my stereo mix like on every computer I've ever had, but I don't have this option. I've been all through the control panel sound setup and everything and the stereo mix and SW Synth is not a recording option. Do I have to install a third party patch for this (like cakewalk pyro)?

Answer:Sound device - recording N/A stereo mix

Trying updating your drivers m8. Optionally just the normal line out should give you the benefit too really. Depends on the sound card your using!

I would like to have the option to send stereo sound from my Dell Dimension 9200 by a wireless method or home network to my stereo in the lounge. I did try a Creative Sound Blaster for iTunes Music Streamer with receiver which uses the 2.4Ghz frequency but it would not work beyond about 4 meters distance I think because of everything else using the 2.4Ghz frequency.
Would a Bluetooth transmitter and receiver be an option or some other method? I don't have a large budget for this but just want something fairly basic that works well. Am I restricted by the age of the desktop as to what I can use?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Cannot record sounds which are played in the speakers.  When activating "stereo mix" in the sound card, a loud noise is generated.  Installed a new driver from Relater, but cannot see in the installed drivers list, if it is actually installed, but  no difference in recording  - except now the "Stereo mix" device has disappeared. By accident I have removed the "Windows Media Player" from the system. Can this have any influence?  And how do I get it back?

Answer:S12 Ion, loud noise out of the Realtek sound card device "Stereo Mixer" when activated

Hi and welcome...

We used to have "stereo mix" option that enabled streaming audio recording without having to have the audio playing through the speakers. How do I do that now? What replaces that capability? Who makes my sound card? Why is that not readily available somewhere in Dell land? I can't believe forum searching found pretty much nothing on this.

Answer:Latitude E6530 Windows 10 no "stereo mix" option for sound input device, only "high definition audio device" with Microsoft driver and unknown manufacturer.

aj_chicagoWho makes my sound card?
Hello. The audio chip manufacturer was IDT.
aj_chicagoWhat replaces that capability?
IDT doesn't have "stereo mix", so I'm not sure how you used to have it on the E6530. IDT has an equivalent capability that it calls Rec.Playback. That can be found in the list of recording devices, after the IDT driver is installed.
aj_chicagoHow do I do that now?
Dell doesn't support audio on an E6530 that has had Win10 installed. The IDT company went out of the consumer audio business long before there was a Win10 OS, so there is no Win10 IDT driver for that model. Your computer is currently using the Windows native audio driver, which, as you say, does not support a stereo mix kind of feature.
You should be able to install the IDT driver for Win7 by installing with compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  [There are two "formats" on the driver's page. Scroll down to the 2nd one, named "Hard Drive" format, and download that one, not the 1st one named "Windows Update Package".]2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the dri... Read more

I tried every available solution on Google but No help.
Someone help me to identify which service/ program etc conflicting with my Audio Driver and causing This Issue...

Thanks in Advance...

Answer:"Device in Use" No Sound Coming From Speakers.

I would try uninstalling the audio drivers via Device Manager...then reinstalling same from the Drivers CD or the website of the system manufacturer.

FWIW:  The notation that drivers are current...IMO, is practically meaningless since current drivers can/do become damaged and incapable of doing what they are designed to do.

I have a Realtek AC'97 audio card and it's been working good, but now all I hear coming out of it is this sort of zooming, I recon it's got something to do with my hardware, but can there be any other causes that I can fix without opening my case?

Try a driver update. There's a posting in the forum about new Realtek drivers coming out. That often fixes problems.

Hey all, I have to make note of this strange issue I had with the sound on my system.  I've read other posts with people losing the sound from their speakers or all together.  Well, I had something like this, but not a total loss of sound. I noticed it at first when playing videos that sometimes the sound would change phasing as it it went from robust stereo sound to weak mono sound and then switch back occasionally.  Then after a while the sound started to get worse until all I heard was the mono sound.  It got especially bad after playing video games. I immediately dug into my sound properties and went to "Control Panel > Hardware and Sound" and chose "Sound", then under the "Playback" tab I selected "Speakers" and chose the "Configure" button.  It was set to "Stereo" (the obvious and only option).  When I hit "Test" the sound that played started off fine in one speaker and then played in both speakers, or it always played in both speakers or it didn't play hardly at all.  I thought it odd especially since it was previewing left and right speakers that it would not play sound out of the left side or right side or would play in both speakers. I cancelled out of that and then pressed the "Properties" button, went to "Enhancements" and checked the box labelled "Disable all enhancements".  I went back and tested the stereo sound and it worked perfectly.  Crisp, clear and robust.  I had to restart the video game I wa... Hi guys, so I did some tweaking around in Sounds and Realtek HD Audio Manager, and I finally got stereo mix working. There's only one catch. It only picks it up if my default device is Reaktek HD Speakers. I tried setting my USB headset as the default device, since I never use my monitor's built in speakers, and it didn't work. I'm dead confused on what to do now.

http://i46.tinypic.com/a0uja9.png To give you an idea in visual terms.

This used to work fine on Vista, dunno what happened when I made the switch to 7 but my friends seem to have no trouble switching back and forth between stereo mix and their mics in Ventrilo, which really bugs me.

Any helps appreciated, and if you want more info, just ask.

Edit: Hmm, I just tried this: Downloaded VAC, in playback I set Line 1 as my default device, and in the recording tab, I made the Line 1 (different than the playback one) listen to what my USB headset was saying, and that somehow worked in letting me use my headset for stereo mix rather than the speakers built into my monitor. I know that there are other ways though because I NEVER had to go through all this trouble to do this. So help is still appreciated!

Answer:How do I get Stereo mix working when usb device is default device?

Any suggestions?

Hi to all seven forum,
I have a movie audio and its left channel sound is lower then the right side. so I wanted to Increase left channel sound for equal to right side channel. I used Audacity but its "Normalizer" option didn't really works.
see the image, there is clearly shown one channel sound is lower then other.

A little off topic, but:

I'm dealing with a Compaq laptop (F767NR), running Vista -SP2, that uses a Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221 device for audio (hard wired, not component). The owner wants to record music with Nero, but there is no "What You Hear" or "Stereo Mix" device to be activated by any of the usual means (Show disabled devices, etc.).

Doing a search reveals that it is pretty much etched in stone that the available drivers for this audio device do not include "What You Hear" capability, and it may not be available because of a hardware limitation.

So I'm wondering if anyone here knows of software that can create a virtual "Stereo Mix" device that can be used to record what you hear, preferably on the Nero software, Windows Sound Recorder, etc.

I see lots of software to record what you hear, but none make it clear whether they provide that functionality in the absence of a Stereo Mix or similar output device to use.

TIA

Answer:I need a virtual Stereo Mix device

Virtual Audio Cable should do the trick.

Hi everyone. I have my headphones plugged in and am getting poor sound quality out of them. My computer says that the sound is coming through my speakers, but its not (its just coming through the headphones.) I've attached a picture of what the comp's showing me for reference. I've tried going to the Sound menu and making the headphones the default device, with no luck. This issue seemed to happen after I was done using Google video chat with my headphones plugged in. I am trying to get the sound quality in my headphones back to normal. They work with every other device. Please help!

Question: stereo sound

Hi. I was wondeirng if anyone knew how to play music FROM my computer using my speakers from my stereo system.

the radio stations here in the dessert in california totally suck! i would really like to be able to play the internet radio stations in my stereo system. does anyone have any ideas? all i have is a built in sound card in my computer. crystal sound fusion or something like that. (you can see my sig for details)

my newer computer might be able to handle more as it has better sound and speakers but i don't know exactly what it has. its an emachines 2240 i think. (in case someone knows their emachiens really well that might be useful lol)

my stereo system is an old techniques but still kicks really good sound with the two big speakers. please let me know if this is at all possible and what you think i need. i imagine i would have to invest in a pci sound card i suppose. if so let me know. but if there IS a way to use my built in one, that'd be better i think.

let me know.

I noticed today when trying to make some settings changes to my speaker properties that my sound is in mono, not stereo. I vaguely remember making a change a while back, but whatever I changed, I don't recall. I tried everywhere i could look to see if I could determine why the speakers were mono but nothing was evident. This is a systemwide thing, not just an app or two.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...

Question: No sound in stereo

Hello,
I have installed Windows 7 to several PCs and this is the first time encounter a problem of this kind. The config is:

AMD X2 4200+
2GB ram
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum rev1.0 with ALC850
etc.

As the title says in stereo there is no sound to the line out jack. I tried several different drivers from Realtek, the ones from windows update and even 1 from Nvidia and it's always the same thing. The weird thing is if i switch to 4 speakers, 5.1 etc all of them have sound except of the front speakers. The board is not the problem since it worked fine on Windows XP. Anyone has any idea other than going back to XP? Maybe there is a way to change front and back speaker's jacks or some other way to make the back speakers act as front?

Thank you

Okay, I tried everything from enabling mobo sound from bios, updating drivers, reinstalling drivers, and enable stereo mix from sound control panel. Whatever I do, I can't seem to get my stereo mix to work, it's there and enabled. It also says that the device is working properly, but when I play a song or any sound that I hear from my speakers/headphones from the "playback" tab.. it does not relay to the stereo mix from the "recording" tab. So the stereo mix isn't catching "what i hear", but IT IS enabled. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? or any suggestions to fixing this problem?

I am running on a HP Pavilion P6510f
AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.80Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit OS)
Realtek High Definition Audio

Any help will be much appreciated.

I'm having the exact same issue as this post, which was not solved...

i got a another problem with stereo mix. (win7)

Bascially, if I try to record through stereo mix (for podcasts or live recording over the internet) There is a horrible white noise, pulsating, echoing sound that gets louder and louder and doesn't stop. Stereo mix is set to default device, obviously, and my speakers are the default playback device, everything else is disabled.

It did not use to do this, so i'm not sure what is causing it.

I checked all the properties and its all at default settings. If I check listen to device and hit apply, I can hear the sound that keeps pulsating/echoing faster and faster until I uncheck it and it apply again. (I only checked it to see if the sound would play which it does).

I have looked all over the internet to try and solve this issue and have not gotten one step closer to solving this. Hopefully someone here can figure this out!

My goal is to record music while people watch what I am doing on my desktop. They do not have an audio feed coming to me so that is not the problem, I am the sole broadcaster.

Thank you in advanced! I eagerly await someones response.

What you've described is "Feedback".
Let's not change too many things at once.

Things to check:

Single left click on the Stereo Mix icon then select "Properties".
Go to the Listen Tab.

Uncheck "Listen to This Device". (if it is checked) Reboot, test record.

If not that-

Same procedure as above but select the "levels" tab.
Reduce the record level to 15, reboot, test record.

If none of that works go to Playback Devices and select Speakers, then properties, go to the Enhancements tab and disable ALL effects.

You could also be getting feedback from the Realtek "Environments"
This is basically a hardware/software Reverb system to simulate "space". It can feedback upon itself if the levels are too high.

Hi, Im having problems getting the sound to play on both of my speakers. I am hooked up to a reciever via a 3.5mm to RCA cable. ive tried plugging the RCA end of the cable into several ports in the back of the reciever, although Im only familiar with that being a problem when plugging into a phono port.
does anyone know if there is a setting within windows that i havent found that allows me to switch between stereo and mono?
Or do i need a different cable?
I had it plugged into an old sony stereo and i could get sound from both speakers, but only when turning the surround up. the surround sound knob acted as a volume control for only one speaker, with the master volume knob controlling both speakers.
weird huh?
not sure if this is a windows 7 problem or a hardware incompatibility issue.

I think the title is kind of self-explanatory.. stereo mix seems to be unaware of it when I am playing sound on my computer. Could explain more but here's a video instead:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUfg73F6cBk

(Tried to embed it with the little YouTube icon but it got filtered out for whatever reason.)

This is especially bizarre because just a few days ago, I used Stereo Mix to record something playing on my computer and it worked perfectly. But then I tried today and suddenly it's.. not. Anyone have any solutions? If you need any more info on my computer then let me know.

Answer:Stereo Mix Not Detecting Sound

Two suggestions.

1. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there were any Windows corruptions this will (usually) fix it.

2. Another option is to try the System Restore back to an available restore date that is when the sound worked correctly.

The specifications i have seen for my 3000 C200 say that the mic input is stereo. I installed Audacity recording software and connected my stereo guitar FX to the mic socket. The volume is fine, and the quality good with no clipping, however the sound is mono. I have updated the drivers, checked balance and mixer settings but still no luck. I tried a different recording program (Cantabile Lite) and also Windows sound recorder, but i can only monitor and record in mono. The sound is perfectly central when using headphones. Any advice would be appreciated.Ric.

On my old Dell M5040 laptop there were two simple  3.5" jack sockets one for input and the other output. I was able to plug a dual 3,5 jack cable into the headphone socket of my tape player the other end into the input mic socket of the Dell and it allowed me to digitise my old tape collection in stereo. My new HP laptop has just one 3.5 inch socket and from what I googled this might be 3 pole or 4  pole it might be somthing called OMPT which is not compaible with CITA devices (whatever those are) and if I do get the right cable, splitter, adaptor, then what way do I set it up to replicate what the Dell did so easily? I am trying to record something that is playing through my speakers, but it just records nothing, only short static noises every couple of seconds...
My system is XP SP3, Intel M/B (probably D915GAV but I'm not sure) with integrated sound chip (ALC860) and the whole driver issue seems to be messed up. When I originally got the computer it had 4 sound drivers already installed: 2 Realtek (97&HD), one KB888111 and one standard driver (SoundMax IIRC that came with the M/B CD). I already uninstalled everything except for Realtek HD Audio and KB888111 (Otherwise the PC will lose sound).

Two issues:
1. Although I see 2 sound drivers installed in Add/Remove Programs ("Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" and "High Definition Audio Driver Package - KB888111"), in Device Manager this is what I see:
http://i57.tinypic.com/2dh89r5.jpg
2. I cannot uninstall the current Realtek HD driver (R1.25). It gives me a weird error message upon the start:
http://i59.tinypic.com/fm6phx.png

My questions:
1. What is the correct driver that I should use in order to have sound and have the ability to record from 'Stereo Mix' successfully, that fits my integrated Motherboard or ALC860 chip?
2. How can I get rid of that faulty Realtek driver?
3. Do I really need that Microsoft UAA audio driver? (I mean, right now it is the only option to have working sounds on my PC, but not recording)

Please, this has been frustrating me forever :cry

I have been banging my head against the wall for a couple days here. I've been trying to enable recording and streaming audio through the Stereo Mix device but it doesn't seem to be picking up any sound. I have tried reinstalling drivers, enabling and disabling different audio devices but nothing seems to have any effect.

I have read a lot of posts on different forums but most of them are about stereo mix device missing. Thats not the case here since it definitely is showing up and is enabled.

Answer:Stereo Mix Not Picking Up Sound

I do a moderate bit of sound recording from time to time and 'Stereo Mix' isn't always the best choice. Try either 'Wave' or 'Line-in' as an alternative. It can be very annoying - hearing the audio coming across your speakers and the level meters in your recording software showing nothing.

so i have two sound cards installed, one is my onboard card and the other is my installed PCI sound card

On-board:
Newegg.com - ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

PCI:
Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Sound Cards

i want to be able to listen to music through my sound blaster card and use the stereo mix from my onboard to record what i hear. any way to either link them to make this possible, or have sound go through both without having to plug in speakers into my onboard?

the stereo mix works fine with my onboard, the problem is that it requires speakers pluged in to work. any way to bypass this?

Answer:two sound cards/stereo mix

If you want to record "what you hear" (what is playing on the PC's speakers) you don't need the on-board sound. SoundBlaster has the "what you hear" option (what SoundBlaster calls the System Mixer).

You can only have one default audio device for any function. Dual sound cards will not work for all functions. Actually, you should be able to do everything with the SoundBlaster and disable the Integrated audio in the BIOS so it doesn't conflict with the SoundBlaster.

Hi   (Windows 10 64 bit, drivers are all updated)
I want to hear sound from both my PC sound bar and my TV(connected by HDMI) at the same time. I did this before and it worked with my older AX510 sound bar that had an audio jack connected to the motherboard input on the back of the PC. I was therefore able to use Stereo Mix to enable this audio set up. Sound came from both my PC and TV at the same time.
However, AC511 sound bar only connects to the monitor with a USB cable, no audio jack to go to the PC. Does this have anything to do with this?
I kept trying to enable Stereo Mix like I did with the AX510 sound bar but it doesn't work. I only get sound from the sound bar or the PC(by HDMI) one at a time.
Is there a fix for this? I dont know if the audio jack really has anything to do with this or not. I want to hear  sound from my PC sound bar and my TV at the same time.

Thank you.

I recently came to a sound hiccup when I wanted to set my live stream to record audio and video from my desktop (video works fine no question), but speak to my viewer(s) on skype with my microphone. I've always had stereo mix enabled and I believe it's worked fine in the past, but recently it's acting up.

For some reason, only the Microphone or Stereo mix work one at a time. I either have to disable one to get the other work, or set one as the "Default Device". When setting as the default device, that particular option will work, and the other will not. When stereo mix is set, the microphone levels (the little green bars) are nonexistent as I run my finger past the mic or blow into it. Same with the stereo mix if the Mic is set to default and I play sounds.

What's weird was, when I was in Skype, pressing one function to be the default did not change what picked up sound. That is when I had to disable the other in order to get one to work.

I am on Realtek High Definition Audio and my driver is all up to date. I have done countless searches, most of them lead to how to enable stereo mix and the few that actually recognize the problem I have seem to not have a posted solution.

Answer:Stereo mix enabled; yet produces no sound

I don't know if this might apply or you've checked (i've seen posts about it) but if you're running Vista or Win 7 check the tabs under Control Panel->Sound as i believe you find a check box to Allow an application to grab exclusive use of the mic. So i think the first app that grabs it works and others might not

First of all, to all those having problems with sound, I would suggest the following.

Go to Control Panel, Programs, and uninstall the audio driver.

Reboot.

Then try to play sound. You might think that you would not hear any, before installing a different audio driver, or reinstalling the same one. But actually there is a default audio driver that works with your chipset in Windows, that installs when you uninstall the manufacturer sound driver, and although the Windows driver may not have all the bells and whistles of the Realtek or Soundmax or Sigmatel or whatever driver, its basic functioning might be better, and it uses much less memory.

That said, I am wondering if any of the Realtek drivers support what used to work in XP, and has been problematic since--choosing "Stereo Mix" for recording input, so you can record the sound digitally that is playing on the computer?

Has anyone got that to work with one of these drivers?

Answer:Stereo Mix? Also, Windows sound driver.

There are many current sound drivers that have the Stereo Mix (System Mixer) function. I have two systems with RealTek (current technology Z77 motherboards) and a Lenovo Laptop with Connexent sound. All have Stereo Mix.

XP drivers are not compatible with Vista/Win7/Win8 as these OS' handle some audio functions differently so you do need newer drivers. However, some of it can also be the sound hardware chip and what it supports, especially if its an old hardware style made for XP. On the Dell forum, many users that upgraded an old XP hardware system to newer OS systems had to install a separate OS compatible sound card to get the System Mixer function.

The generic basic function Windows installed HD Audio Codec doesn't usually offer all the functions of regular sound drivers. It will get you PC audio, but not much more.

However, if I were to play music or make sounds on my PC, it would not pick up any sound at all (i have it turned up to the max)
I have a Realtek HD Audio integrated sound card, and the latest driver does not support stereo mix, so I'm sticking with the one I have

if you dont have the option, u can always try to use filter codec, such as ffdshow decoder, which is capable of doing that. i strongly suggest you to get K-lite codec pack, beside the vast availability of codecs installed, ffdshow is also included, to improve my music performance, and lot of things.

In Windows 7 there is a Stereo Mix option under the Recording Tab.

I have VM Ware with Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.. but there is no Stereo Mix option listed. I have the disabled devices checked and it still doesn't show up. I'm using VM Ware Player Version 4.02

I have searched for this problem and have found others having this issue but have yet to find a fix for this.

Answer:Solved: VM Ware Sound Stereo Mix

Stereo Mix is not an option for Windows7. It's for Sound Card and because your Sound Card support Stereo Mix, It is available on your Windows 7.
But in VM Ware it's different. It doesn't use your Sound Card Driver , It just use a Standard Sound Card Driver so that you can hear and record, It may not support all your original Sound Card options.

Note. This is WIndows 2000. I may or may not have posted in the wrong forum (may be a windows issue)

Hey,

I have the Plextor Digital Video Convertor and I have quite an old Video Camera.
I have converted the video and sound fine it's just that the Camcorder only has a Mono audio output.

How can I make the audio stereo so it can be played on a Surround Sound System?

The camera is Samsung VP-L600 and the cable I have plugs into the A/V Out and there are two connectors at the end: Yellow (Video) and White (Mono Sound). I don't want to buy another cable.
Thanks

Answer:Make Mono Sound Stereo

There is no stereo information in a mono track, but you can simulate stereo using an audio editor such as the free Audacity:http://audacity.sourceforge.net/A basic technique is covered here:http://www.selected-audio-reviews.com/arti...o_to_stereo.htmWhat format are your video files being recorded in? The difficulty is going to be that the mono sound is incorporated into the audio layer of the video file, and extra sound would have to be added in as an overdub. If you simply want to record straight onto left and right channels, you would need to get a y-splitter lead for the audio connection, so there is two connections available. This would record two identical channels, sound would come from left and right speakers instead of just one, but there would be no stereo "surround" effect.

Hello,

I play guitar and bass through my computer and record with Windows Movie Maker and Audacity from my soundcard using 'Stereo Mix'. I have Windows 10.

Everything was working just fine yesterday and I recorded a track.
TODAY, Stereo Mix, despite being enabled and set as the default device is not even picking up sound (as it can usually be seen by the green bar next to it).
I use headphones to listen to my playing.

All of the settings in my Movie Maker and Audacity are the same. All of my audio settings are the same as yesterday.

I would greatly appreciate your help as this is my hobby and my joy to share music with my friends. I'm not very tech savvy so please use layman's terms.

Hi,

I am reading a lot of complaints about the lack of "stereo mix" on many (most?) sound cards these days. My Dell Vostro with onboard Realtek also lacks this capability.

And yes - I've tried all sorts of drivers and unhidden, etc on the recording screen, etc, so I've decided I'll buy a PCI card that does do this (still). But which one? With which driver?

Please can anyone give specific guidance so I know what to buy?

Answer:Which sound cards DO have stereo mix for x64 Win7?

I'm using an HT Omega "Striker 7.1" PCI sound card with Windows 7 64 bit. Works great and has the System Mixer function. Actually, I had a newer SoundBlaster Xfi installed but had problems and the Striker 7.1, that I pulled out of my old Dell Dimension E510, works better than the SoundBlaster.

It's available at newegg here Newegg.com - HT | OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card

One issue, and that is with ANY add on sound card. You will most likely lose the front panel headphone and mic jack capability. Dell uses proprietary (and undocumented) front panel connections on many systems (I do a lot of support on the Dell desktop forum).

If you buy the Striker 7.1 you will probably have to download the Win 7 64 bit driver from their web site. http://www.htomega.com/striker.html

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click to higlight the RealTek audio device and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Hello there,

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Answer:Stereo Mixer not recording sound.

**EDIT**

So I've sort of figured out the problem. When I talk through my mic like on Skype for example, the sound level of the Stereo mixer drops to 0. If I then mute my mic on Skype the stereo mixer volume stays at 100. I've been able to Stream music and use my mic at the same time before, or does it drop due to priority? Thanks

I have an HP laptop, and my sound card is (displayed using PCIutils for Windows):

Code:
Intel Corporation 7 Series / C210 Series
and I am finding difficulties in getting stereo sound from analogical headphones (plugged in with 3.5mm jack). Drivers downloaded from HP or Realtex do not work, drivers supplied by Windows (although they are Realtek drivers as well) sometimes work, I mean: speakers and headphones are shown together at the mixer, and sound from headphones is not stereo. I then go to device manager, audio input and output, and uninstall "Speakers/Headphones". I then reboot with my headphones plugged in, and, after that, the sound is stereo, and (IIRC) the mixer distinguishes between headphones and speakers.

But then things get broken back soon: one time, the windows updated the sound driver, and no stereo sound again. I uninstalled the device, rebooted, and stereo back. Then I unplugged the headphones, and windows said that no speakers were found: I restarted the audio device, speakers were found again, but stereo broken again

I think that debugging this looks tricky but, do you have any ideas?

Yesterday, my sound suddenly stopped working on the right channel of my headset.

At first I thought it was the headset, I replaced it and got a new one but the issue is still there.

I checked the sound configurations and have both channels equally. Even when I increase the volume on the right channel, I still do not hear anything on the right part of the headset.

Currently using Windows Vista 64 bit version,

Driver is "Realtek High Definition Audio".

And this problem started happening suddenly(no known changes in computer).

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Sound not playing in right channel(stereo)

If this is the computer in your less than helpful system specs, please include information such as Manufacturer and Model of Computer if big box (HP/Compaq, Dell, Acer etc...) or the same if custom built for the Motherboard, Processor, Ram, Video, Sound card, Hard drives, Power Supply and Case.

As replacing the Head Set did not correct the problem, please describe where you had the headset plugged in. is it the front headset port or the port on the rear of the case. While it could be a driver issue, it could also be a hardware issue with the headset port on your system. If you have it plugged in the front port try connecting it to the rear port. If you do not have a front port and are only using the rear port it may get a little more dicey.

Two, is Stereo Mix, which normally comes with realtek audio drivers as far as I can tell, something that can be used with usb sound cards (see attachment for meaning).
Three, will the sound card be affected by my computer specs?

Answer:Realtek, USB Sound Cards, and Stereo Mix

Okay, I think there might be a problem I didn't consider:

My Logitech Webcam and Dell Speakers both use USBs to connect to the computer, which means that a USB Sound card/adapter would be useless. ...Crap.

Hello. I am using a Satellite L50-B-1P1. The soundcard of this machine is a Conexant SmartAudio HD, as it is for many other Toshiba laptops by my understanding.

I want to record sound on this machine. In order to do this, I need to enable Stero Mix. This machine with its soundcard does not make Stereo Mix available. How do I overcome this issue to record sound?

My Windows XP on my Sony Vaio -vgn-t370p laptop does not have sound anymore. When I look in the device manager it shows that all devices are working properly but ( there are not yellow question marks), I still do not have sound. Please help?

Answer:Device Manager shows sound device is working but still no sound

Hi

What Service Pack is your XP at?

Did your sound just disapear or did you have a malware infection?

Have you checked that the volume is not muted?
Also check in Services (Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services) that the Windows Audio service is set to Started and Automatic.

What I would try is the below and if you are at SP2 only then install the UAA driver from HERE and reboot, possibly even re-install your audio driver once the UAA driver is installed.

Or if you are at SP3, then try the below originally posted from muskesnipe

Goto Start>Run and type in regedit , then click OK.
Click the plus signs in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, Current Control Set, Control, and finally, click Windows.
In the right panel you will see CSDVersion.
Right click it, choose Modify.
In the highlighted input window, you should see 300. Change it to 200.
Click OK, close regedit and restart your PC. Windows will now think it is SP2 and allow you to install the HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe and your Sound Driver.

Make sure to reboot and then test your sound BEFORE, changing the value back to 300.

Then follow the same steps to change it back to SP3. Change the 200 back to 300.Click to expand...

Hi everyone,
I got an Averatec 3150H laptop, which I recently bought off ebay. I have a problem with the sound. The place where the headphones are supposed to go in (the female jack) is ruptured and thus I guess that it doesnt work because I dont get sound either on the laptop speakers or my headphones. It used to work fine before, but one night I guess I forced my headphones jack too hard into the plug and something inside is broken and hence no sound. I noticed there is also a microphone jack next to the headphone jack. Is there some way I could reconfigure my computer to permanently use the microphone jack as my headphone jack and my head phone jack as my microphone jack? simply put I want windows to swap headphone for microphone so that I can once again listen to music through the old microphone jack. I tried opening my lappy and see if there are any wires I could physically swap to make this possible but I guess everything is inside the circuit so I couldnt do that. My only other option of getting any sound from my lappy would be through a USB sound card but I dont wanna do that as it just adds to the accessory I have to tug around with my lappy. Does anyone have a solution for my problem?? please help!!!!!
Regards,
zaurav

Hi,

I recently changed my motherboard (to Asus Maximus Extreme II) and it came with a soundcard (SupremeFXII 7.1).

I have tried to record sound from the card, but the stereo mixer is missing in the sound menu. The only icon is CD Volume, mic volume and line in.

I have tried the following method:

For Windows Vista users
- Go to Sound in the Control Panel's classic view
- Select the Recording tab and right-click any of the devices listed.
- Check "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
- Stereo Mix should show up. Set it as default.

But Stereo mixer doesn't show. I also installed drivers from Realtek without any positive results.

Any suggestions??

Hey,
Stereo Mix randomly works, it randomly does not, this is seen in my game recordings, some have no game sound (stereo mix).

It has been a while now without stereo mix sound. I havn't changed anything.

After spending days googling it, I think it has something to do with the fact that I have a headset.
It connects by a bluetooth usb adapter which has its own hub to connect a cable to charge it at the same time as use, someone said it's because it has its own sound driver which stops stereo mix ?

My headset is Logitech G930 but I think its the same for any headset.

I just want to be able to record sound in games (I use shadow play, comes with geforce).
I would also like to be able to record music.

I need stereomix to hear my computer sound again.

I tried using Virtual Audio Cable has someone else mentioned but It's just too much work every time to just get a type of stereo mix recording to work...
Thanks.

I have windows 10 pro now but I forgot my password and there is no forgot password button on that forum. This bug is in windows 7 too though.

Hi.
Advice needed. I have a new motherboard in my machine, an ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS - Newegg.com and my 2 soundcards the older Adigity 2 ZS with all the bells and whistles locsk up the machine and the X Fi Gamer SB 0730 in the PCI slot has very low audio to the stereo system. Another PC with he same card is considerably louder. I had a PCI e Recon 3D but it had a faulty line input so I could not plug my other PC into it (essential). It was plenty loud enough but not hi fi. I have a Yamaha 100 RMS per channel surround sound hi end unit RX V2090 and a pair of B&W DM6 monitor loudspeaker which I listen to music on from CD and the computer FLAC, 320kbs mp3 and some lower resolution (not many). Another machine hooks up as a media center for surround sound from Blu Ray, DVD's and HD over the ai TV and Netflix. Amazon etc. I am looking for the sound card in this machine to be for Stereo playback only. The other machine does the home theatre movie experience. I sometimes listen to cheapo headphones at low volume late at night but mainly this will be fairly moderate listening levels. I have read about Asus cards and some of them suffer from high pitched whistling and hum from ground loops. OK so I took my own advice and ordered the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card powered by THX TruStudio Pro - Newegg.com
I have installed it and I am testing it through the hi fi whilst tweaking options, the driver disk I got seems to be bang up to date with Windows 8 7 drivers only and more updated than drivers on the web. I'll post a further diagnosis after a few days of testing but I am impressed and that is pretty hard to do to this old fart.

Hi

Is it possible to achieve more then stereo with this laptop?
I have a 5.1 Creative analog speakers, i know there is no way to connect all of them, but as there are 2 jacks i could connect it as 2.1.
Is there any tool that would allow me to connect subwoofer to mic jack?

If not then how to make use of the Realtek HD?
I guess it's a High Definition not High Defeat.

Best regards
Krystian

Answer:Satellite A100-192: Is it possible to achieve more then stereo sound?

Hi

As far as I know the audio line out jack S/PDIF is not available on this unit.
You can use the headphone jack to connect for example the HiFi to your notebook.
Additional the notebook has a preinstalled application called Toshiba Virtual Sound.
This program aworks as a audio filer using SRS TRUsurround XT, SRS WOW HD and SRS Circle Surround Xtract functions.
The audio filter enables you to enjoy the sound and music of better quality on your notebook.

Hello.

I'm having a problem with stereo sound on my laptop.

My laptop has a single stereo 3.5mm headphone jack and I have an ordinary pair of ear bud headphones and a pair of stereo speakers.

I work with sound (binaural beats) where it is important that sounds that are sent to the left speaker and right speaker are completely separate - i.e., proper stereo sound. However I noticed that my laptop leaking sound from either ear to the other ear.

For example when I create a mono track on the sound editing program Audacity, and have it panned completely to the left, I should hear nothing in my right speaker, and sound in the left speaker. this is not the case. Instead, I hear a soft sound in my right ear and a loud sound in my left ear. Stereo is working, but for some reason a reduced volume sound is being sent to the opposite ear. The opposite happens when I reverse this and pan completely to the right.

When I go to control panel/sound/speakers and headphones/configure - to get to "Speaker Setup" i see the option "Stereo" selected (I don't have any other options here). I click on the button to test the left speaker and I hear a loud noise in my left ear and a soft noise in my right ear (once again I would expect to hear noise in my left ear and nothing in my right ear). The opposite happens when I reverse this and click on the "right" speaker to test.

I have repeated all the above tests with stereo speakers and I still have the sam... Read more

I recently purchased a CREATIVE Sound Blaster Audigy.

I was looking for a Stereo Mix or What u Hear Option in my Recording Devices, and could not see any option to use those recording Devices. I have 'Show disabled Devices' and 'Show disconnected Devices' Ticked, yet nothing shows up.

The only options that are avaliable are:
Line-In
Microphone
Auxilary
S/PDIF-In

I'm wanting to stream music on Ventrilo, and if its not possible to use Stereo Mix or What u Hear, is it possible to use another method using the other 4 options that are avaliable?

My current OS is Vista 64-Bit Home Edition. I have Windows 7 but not wanting to install it till i have my new External HDD.

Any Ideas or options that i havent seen? or is it simply, you cannot use Stereo Mix or What u Hear on this soundcard?

Thanks for your time.

I have a Sony VAIO VPCEB24FD and I have installed manycam and disabled my webcam driver. The video works just fine but no audio is broadcast. I've read on the forums that it has something to do with a "stereo mix". So the audio driver I have installed is a "high definition audio device" by Microsoft. Digital version 6.1.7600.16385. Can someone walk me through the steps I need to take to be able to broadcast audio through manycam?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:No sound being projected through manycam (stereo mix missing?)

I can't help you with Manycam software. But I might be able to help you find the Stereo Mix device.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound > Manage Audio Devices.
On the Record Tab you would find the Stereo Mix Device. If it is not shown, Right Click on any white area inside the Recording Tab and Check: "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
Now the Stereo Mix device should show. If it doesn't, post back.
Right Click on Stereo Mix and select "Set as Default Device" to activate.

Hi there.
Go to control panel, sound, the second tab for recording and then right-click and mark "show deactivated devices" and "show disconnected devices. After that stereomix should appear and you only have to select it as standard.

I have Toshiba sattelite L650-PSK1JE with mobility radon 5650, and is connected via HDMI to my sony reciever
whitch is then via another HDMI connected to TV.
Problem is that I can't get 5.1 or quadrophonic sound from notebook, only stereo.

I have tried installing drivers from TOSHIBA web site, and also drivers from other sites (everi time deleteng old drivers) and still can't get it to work. Currently have ATI 12.6 drivers. and official conexant audio drivers .

In sound propertis it says that max number of chanels is 2. But in graphics card manual it is said that it suports up to 7.1 via HDMI.

Funny thing is that once (but only once) surround sound worked, and i had a choice to select 5.1.

Is there possibility that i need to do something with mi sony DH520 reciever.

Answer:Satellite L650-PSK1JE - can't get 5.1 or sound - only stereo

Have you tried setting HDMI as the default sound output device?

What software are you using to play the media? You may need to select the HDMI output in the software player.

Using an analog stereo connection cable, a main USB connector and (Headphone) via high definition as default playback device, I want to use Stereo mix (Which is enabled and supposedly working, not muted and up to date) to play sounds in Skype calls. I checked out the recording devices and the green bars for stereo mix are not moving when sound is playing.

My friend on the other hand has the same head set using the same analog stereo cable and playback settings, but is able to play sounds in the Skype call.

Answer:Stereo Mix Via High Definition not picking up sound.

Doing some research on that motherboard, I see it has RealTek HD Audio.

I'm not sure exactly what you are hooking up. "Using an analog stereo connection cable, a main USB connector and (Headphone)". Can you explain a little more on exactly what you have?

With a mix of analog conections and USB it can be a problem (I have a recording studio and use both).
