Can't Get Rid Of Military Time

Question: Can't Get Rid Of Military Time

Just finished getting rid of a bunch of trojans and other issues on my pc. Now I have Military time instead of my normal time.

I went to help/support for HP but nothing there helped.

Preferred Solution: Can't Get Rid Of Military Time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't Get Rid Of Military Time

Start> Control Panel> Regional and Language Options. Click on customize next to English (United States) or similar. Goto time at the top and change the setting to hh:mm:ss or something with the lowercase hh.

Click apply, and it should be back to normal.

I am not very experienced and running windows XP with IE6. My time shown on toolbar and all dated material (old items in outlook express folders, etc) has changed to showing military time -6:00 PM is 18:00 PM. When I right click the time on toolbar and get the actual clock, it is showing it correctly as 6:00 PM. This just happened sometime yesterday and I find no settings to get it back to showing regular time. Any suggestions as how to get it back?

Thank You tlh99

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(this is the drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix). DO NOT use it just yet.

Before we start with the fix, we need to fix the restrictions.

Click o Install
Your desktop may refresh a couple of times, don't be alarmed.
Please reboot into Safe Mode and follow the instructions below.

Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

How do I get Win 10 to show military time instead of regular format 5:45pm I want 1745 to show

Answer:Military time

Search for Time, and click Change Date and Time. Scroll down and click Additional date, time, & regional settings. You will find it underneath the heading called Related settings.

In the new window under Region, select Change date, time, or number formats. Change short and long time to the capital H version that you find. For example, Short time is set to h:mm tt - Change it to H:mm. Long time is h:mm:ss tt - Change to H:mm:ss

Question: Military Time

Yeah my clock is stuck in military time..how do i fix it?

Answer:Military Time

Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Customize button

1. In the Customize Regional Options dialog box, click the Time tab to specify any changes you want to make.

NOTE: To configure the settings so that the leading zeros in single-digit hours, minutes, or seconds are not displayed, type a single uppercase H, or lowercase letters, such as h, m, or s.

2. If you do not see the format you want in the Time format box, use the following guidelines:

? To display time in a 24-hour format, type an uppercase H or HH for the hour.
? To display time in a 12-hour format, type lowercase h or hh for the hour.
? To display leading zeros in single-digit hours, type HH or hh.
? To display a single letter to indicate AM or PM, type lowercase t.
? To display two letters to indicate AM or PM, type lowercase tt.
? To display text, type single quotation marks (') around text.

As an example: h:mm:ss tt

Would right now return on my Taskbar clock 9:56 PM and for internal use show 9:56:23 PM

Windows XP Pro. I use Avast AV software (free) and ZoneAlarm firewall (free), and Ad-Aware, though I do not have A-A in live scanning mode; I update and do scans on my own. My browser is Firefox v.3.5.5 and while I have some add-ons loaded (Ad Blocker and NoScript) I had them disabled because they make navigating websites nearly impossible.

A few days ago, while at www.deviantart.com, signed into my account, I saw this notice while signing: You're internet connection has been reset while this page was loading. A few minutes later I got my first virus alert while viewing photos online. Avast gave me the option to abort the connection, which I did, and notified me that it had stopped the virus before it entered my computer. I immediately did a scan and Avast found nothing.

Yesterday it happened again, but this time I was scanning for movies on www.imdb.com. After that incident, I noticed that my clock went to 24-hour military time. I tried to fix that and followed instructions I found on Google, but the control I needed to reset it (through control panel > Language and regional settings) was missing. Also, my screen saver (one provided by Microsoft with my Windows) was missing, just a stock photo.

I've had a third virus alert since each time, nothing shows on a virus scan.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but after that first alert, while scanning, the scan was extremely slow, taking nearly an hour to complete. A scan is usually abo... Read more

I was attacked by a coolwebsearch and trojandownloader.exe before, then I kept on getting a message saying that I was infected, with the default background as well as the military time. I downloaded the Windows Live Onecare which took care of some of the problems, and I finished off with SmitFraudFix, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, Spybot - Search & Destroy and Avast AntiVirus!. But I still have the military time, I'd like to have assistance in removing it.

And as for future reference, what other programs would be useful for removing malwares?

Good Morning,

What I'm trying to do is create a schedule in excel which adds two cells containing military time without a date ex: [2200] + [0600] into a total numbers of hours. ex: [2200] + [0600] = [8.00]

I've done this before I thought I just used a simple SUM function, I can't seem to get this for the life of me. I want to just be able to enter a time and excel understand what I'm talking about. I used to simply type the times into the cell and it would appear as entered. Typing "2200" into a cell would appear as [2200], which is what I want.

Currently, I've changed the format to hhmm and when I type "2200" into a cell it appears as [0000] when I click the cell to see the value, the value has defaulted to "1/8/1906 12:00:00 AM".

If anyone knows how to do this, I'd greatly appreciate the advice. I know it can't be too difficult because I did this on a whim about 4 months ago and decided not to use it.

I worked for a company who used this as well, its where I got the idea, in February we merged into a new company which uses an absolutely insane schedule format that is difficult to read unless you're working with about 10 employees.

Answer:Clock On Military Time

Ok, first one of the main culprits of this lately is SmitFraudFix. When run, it sets the computer to 24hr time. I have no idea why.

Second, fixing this is in a place you may have not thought of. You have to fix it in the International Settings control panel/Time.

You can't fix it in the Time control panel, which is ridiculous.

How can I add military time to an Excel filename?

Answer:Solved: Excel VBA -> Military Time

Are you wanting to save the file with military time appended to the name or just set the value equal to a variable? Below is an example of setting a variable equal to the filename plus underscore symbol + military time. If you want to actually save the document just issue the .SaveAs command instead of setting equal to a variable.

FOR EXCEL

vName = ActiveWorkbook.Name & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")

or

'To include full path
vName = ActiveWorkbook.FullName & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")
FOR WORD

vName = ActiveDocument.Name & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")

or

'To include full path
vName = ActiveDocument.FullName & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")

The company I work for utilizes military time for all production tracking and I'm thinking of helping the specialists out by creating a simple excel program to figure out the total time, in hours, that we should charge our customers.

The formula should be pretty simple but I'm finding it difficult to hash out in Excel. I need the user to be prompted to provide a Start Time, i.e. 1500 (3:00pm) and then provide and End Time, i.e. 2250 (10:50pm). The output should be in the form of total hours, rounded-up to the nearest tenth. So, in this case 7.9 hours.

Here is the conversion chart that the specialist utilize on the production lines.
Minutes - Hours
1-6 - .1
7-12 - .2
13-18 - .3
19-24 - .4
25-30 - .5
31-36 - .6
37-42 - .7
43-48 - .8
49-54 - .9
55-60 - 1.0

I am currently unable to upload anything from the computer I am using due to security measure and policies. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I need help with a formula to calculate standard time to military time. The minutes part of the equation needs to be from 60 to 100 minutes. For example Clock in time is 7:52:03 and it should be 7:86:05 (multiplying the minutes by 1.66). The clock out time is 15:12:11 and it should be 15:20:18. The standard subtraction equals 7:20:08 however, it should be 7:34:21.

I opened a file I obviously should not have. The background turned red and stated "This Computer is Infected." The clock went military and next to that it says "VIRUS ALERT." All my drives are missing and the start menu only has a few options. I was able to run an anti-spy I had on my computer but it did not work and I had to reboot. After rebooting, the computer loads to the desktop at which point the mouse will be free to move for a few minutes and then the computer freezes. I tried to run the computer in safe mode but it will not go into safe mode. I read about the malware removal but since I can not do anything when the computer loads I was wondering if there was some other option.

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

Thanks in advance for any helpp.

I would like to enter a long list of military times into a spread sheet without having to continually enter the " : " (entering 051223 to read 05:12:23)

Answer:How do you format an Excel cell to military time?

Look here for a Macro:http://www.cpearson.com/excel/DateT...Scroll down about 1/3 of the page to the:Military To TimeThis function converts military time, supplied as an integer, to a standard serial time number. For example, it converts 1130 to 11:30, and 1650 to 16:50. With either of these Custom Formats: 00\:00 or 00":"00you can make your number Look like a time, but it will only be a number and you will Not be able to do any Time Math with it.And in the future, Excel questions are best asked in the Office Software ForumMIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

A couple of days ago, a red X icon popped up on my toolbar and I began getting popup windows constantly stating that my computer had been infected with a virus and that I should click on the window in order to fix it. I though it was a legitimate warning so I kept trying to click on it but nothing would happen. It wasn't until I actually read the whole message thoroughly and saw that the word "prevent" was misspelled as "pervent" that I began to suspect something. I looked up information online and found out that it was probably the Rogue Antivirus. I searched online for ways to remove it and one of the websites suggested downloading Smitfraudfix and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware so I did and I ran both. Malwarebytes showed infections, which I deleted. The website suggested running Smitfraudfix in Safe Mode but the first couple of times I tried this it wouldn't work so I ran it in Normal Mode and removed the infections it found. I finally figured out how to run it in Safe Mode, so I ran it again in Safe Mode. After this, the popups stopped but my desktop background changed to blue. I was able to change it but then I noticed that my toolbar clock was stuck on military or 24 hour time and when I would try to change it, the time shown would be correct but then when I hit apply, it would still be in military time. I have gone through all of the recommended steps in the Preparation Guide. When I ran Adware for the second time, it showed 41 items detected ... Read more

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:Link 1Link 2Link 3* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. I need this date (3:44:42 PM)to read military time. I also need to add a month and year (4/15) in the same cell so my end result will be
15:44:42
4/15.
I am able to change to military time. However, when I add the month and year 4/15, the cell content change, and the military time disappears. Is there a way for an excel cell to contain two different cell formats? Or, is there a way to ‘hardcode’ the military time so it doesn’t change.
I am adding the month and year by hitting ALT/Enter to take this piece to a new line within the same cell, but as soon as I do this, the Military time changes and the result I am looking for ’15:44:42 4/15 never shows up. Any ideas?

cell A1 has military time, 04:25:00condition if the value of time in A1 is between 07:00:00 and 15:00:00, then B1 should display "a"; if the value of time in A1 is between 15:00:00 and 23:00:00, then B1 should display "b";if the value of time in A1 is between 23:00:00 and 07:00:00, then B1 should display "c";

Answer:how to create nested if function for date and military time

Try this and see how it works:=IF(OR(A1<TIME(7,0,0),A1>=TIME(23,0,0)),"C",IF(AND(A1>=TIME(7,0,0),A1<TIME(15,0,0)),"A",IF(AND(A1>=TIME(15,0,0),A1<TIME(23,0,0)),"B")))EDIT:Hers is an updated formula:=IF(A1="","",IF(OR(A1<TIME(7,0,0),A1>=TIME(23,0,0)),"C",IF(AND(A1>=TIME(7,0,0),A1<TIME(15,0,0)),"A",IF(AND(A1>=TIME(15,0,0),A1<TIME(23,0,0)),"B"))))If A1 is empty, this will blank the cell.MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/message edited by mmcconaghy

I have tried using a simple subtraction equation to determine the difference in hours using military time, however when you get to half hour increments, for example, 1700 - 1230, You see the minutes as 70, which is the correct subtraction. I need to know how to convert the 100 units to 60 showing 5 hours and 30 minutes, not 4 hours and 70 minutes. I thought if inserting an if statement to add 160 units, but can't remember the condition "ends with" 70. Thank you!.

Answer:Converting military time to hours/minutes in Excel

It is probably happening because you do not have the cells formatted as TIME.In cell A1 enter 17:00 << NOTE the colon - it is REQUIREDIn cell B1 enter 12:30 << NOTE the colon - it is REQUIREDIn cell C1 enter the formula =A1-B1 you should now have an answer of 4:30MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

My problem seems to be identical to MuffinMan's. Went to a commonly viewed website, all of a sudden I picked up malware of some kind. My background changed to a blue screen with a message saying "You have spyware on your computer please install antivirus 2008!" then every now and again a box pops up asking me to accept the terms and install some antivirus . My computer is running very slowly. It runs military time for an inexplicable reason. Also, I am consistently redirected to different websites, particularly when I am going to an anti-virus site. Also, the free version of AVG will not work.I went to a public library computer, went to Komando.com and downloaded every free anti-virus and spy-ware I could get my hands on. Thats how I got here. I ran about 15 scans with 8 or 9 different programs. Most of the time nothing popped up but I achieved some success. The desktop background no longer had the message. The pop-up box also is no longer occurring.Still I cannot change my background off a blue screen, my computer clock is showing military time, I am still often redirected when web-browsing(although less after I uninstalled a suspicious-looking program through control panel), and my computer still runs a little slow.I've run hijackthis and kaspersky online scanner. Question: Military Takeover

Hi there people. This is my first thread.
Initially I was impressed with the military dot com web site, which is associated with moster.com. I even made it my home page for Internet Explorer. However, when I scanned my pc with Microsoft Antispyware, it pointed to the site as a potential threat. NO MATTER WHAT I DID, including all the procedures laid out in these forums including those given by Major Attitude, to reset to my default home page, military.com took over on startup. When in my anger I blocked the site because of the violation, my entire internet connection was messed up. I was forced to unblock the site to bring things back to normal. I hate being obligated to the military without my free will to choose. I feel like I've been DRAFTED It's just not right. IT FEELS LIKE MY PC IS UNDER MILITARY OCCUPATION! I visited the web site daily and would have been perfectly fine book-marking the site as one of my favorites. NOT ANYMORE!!!

Any suggestions besides using all the tools described in this forum that already hasn't worked?

Answer:Military Takeover

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99.1 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Question: MIlitary overseas

I know being overseas lets me fall behind on tv shows, but I can't even get to watch anything from the major networks websites. I get the message that it's for US only. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to help get an US ip address so I can watch some shows and maybe even get to download some stuff on xbox live. Gears of war is banned where I am at so getting the online stuff is impossible.

Answer:MIlitary overseas

Theres a few things you can do, mostly proxy or VPN stuff try http://hotspotshield.com/ for an easy solution though I'm not sure what the performance will be like. I know it says stuff about security etc but thats for marketing reasons, it'll get you a US IP address.

For Xbox stuff you'd probably have to do something similar but at a router level, which might not be possible depending on the local network setup.

If you're on some kind of local base network with a range or domain specifically assigned to the military try contacting the local sysadmin and see if he can get it allowed or do something for you.

I'm ignorant of such things but I'd of thought the military would have been more sensitive to things like this, preventing culture shock and building moral etc.

Anyone here know the details of how the military lost secrets recently by infected thumb drives? I would like to know if Norton, et al has all the details so that I can be sure that when I scan my thumb drives (and CDs) that they really are clean.

My point here is to actually find out what the military did with those infected thumb drives--were they all trashed, or was there a way to disinfect them?

I am pretty sure that I have a couple of thumb drives, ones that have very important information on them, that open the door to some intruder.
I keep a long list of symptoms of this intrusion that are not with me at the moment, so I won't go into all the weird paranoid woman details, but it includes things such as,
--on a newly nuked and burned hard drive (Free [email protected] write to 0s, long format reinstall of XPPro) the Windows Firewall says it's working fine, but if you look at the event logs, you will see a warning that Windows Firewall is NOT working
--In the WMI Control (I THINK that's what you call it), before I connect to the net for the first time, I find 48 DCOM apps that all appear to be things that are intended to collect and send everything that happens on my computer to some server somewhere, and when I look at other people's new computers there's nothing like that. Once I open that area and look at those things, whether I remove them or not, I am never able to get back in to see whether those applications are baaaaack. That is, until I nuke ... Read more

I am departing soon and would desperately like to my laptop with me when I go. Here's a quick summary if any one wishes to have mercy on my soul and lend a helping hand:

THE PROBLEM
- The black screen of death. I can turn on the computer (a DELL INSPIRON E1405) and see the DELL Logo and the Windows logo....then nothingness. Just a black screen...no cursor, no nothing.

THINGS I'VE TRIED
- Rebooting...alot! No luck...blackness
- Tried re-installing WINDOWS VISTA by booting from the CD...it read " Windows is Loading Files"...and then it goes to blackness...nothing. No dice.
- I know zippy about comptuers...but it seems like I have two options, F2 or F12 from that startup screen...I've tried both...and can get that far.

Any advice on how to possibly save this computer? Is it dead and should I toss in the Atlantic ocean on my way overseas? Im starting to wonder if I even have the right VISTA CD anymore. Penny for anyone's thoughts...

Thanks a ton. Shack

Answer:HELP...Deploying US Military...with Computer Problems

Sound like a hardware issue. If you are about to go where you may have other things to stress you, probably better off getting something new for few hundreds bucks and leave that one home. When you get back you may try to fix it. But I wouldn't rely on that thing right now.

Is this how a Chinese computer manufacturer tries to integrate itself into US society?? I'm part of a military family posted abroad and had a pre-christmas order  for a Lenovo Y510p gaming laptop (a gift for our 16-year old son) cancelled because I'm using a "freight forwarder" in Florida. Smacks of discrimination if you ask me. Buy American instead!

This one is way out there, but I'm gonna ask anyway. Part of my job is military logistics. This involves developing and compiling all sorts of data about equipment, spares and repair parts, etc. and delivering it to the Government in a specific (MIL-STD-1388-2B) format. The program I currently use is called powerLOG, which was developed by the Government and is furnished free to contractors. The program is not at all intuitive or user friendly, and often requires repetitive entries of the same data for different purposes. I'm wondering if there's something else available, whether freeware or payware, that will do the same things and is easier to use.

Answer:Any Military Logistics Types in the House?

We use a program called MP2 made by Data steam System. I work at a Power plant we're part of 20+ plants which all use it. If you need more info let me know.
Also many 24 hours ago I was a Capt. in the New Hampshire Amry Guard. Luck Phil Conrad

French Military Confounded by Conficker

We already told you how widespread the Conficker worm is and it looks like France isn?t immune either. CNET reports that the worm is responsible for wreaking some havoc in their military.

Mr. Merchet quotes a publication that has somehow escaped my attention- Intelligence Online. This extremely serious resource for allegedly secret stuff declared that the virus "brought down certain arms systems" and grounded the Navy's Dassault Rafale aircraft.

Answer:French Military Confounded by Conficker

I thought militaries didn't use Windows, I expected them to use some sort of custom OS. Unless Conficker isn't Windows-only?

I've watched a couple of videos on youtube about military standards on x250 or x1 carbon, claiming that they are water proof or spill proof something..... but the ports on the sides of the laptops are not sealed or covered, e.g USB, VGA, mic/audio jack and ventilation etc How can it be spill proof in that case?? water could get into the laptop through those ports easily

Answer:does x250 meet military tests?

Spill proof is mostly on keyboard area, if you spill on that area the laptop has holes under it where water or so will rin out that's what is spill proof but laptop isn't water proof.

SEOUL, South Korea -- South Korea's military said Friday it was investigating a hacking attack that netted secret defense plans with the United States and may have been carried out by North Korea.
The suspected hacking occurred late last month when a South Korean officer failed to remove a USB device when he switched a military computer from a restricted-access intranet to the Internet, Defense Ministry spokesman Won Tae-jae said.
The USB device contained a summary of plans for military operations by South Korean and U.S. troops in case of war on the Korean peninsula. Won said the stolen document was not a full text of the operational plans, but an 11-page file used to brief military officials. He said it did not contain critical information.
Won said authorities have not ruled out the possibility that Pyongyang may have been involved in the hacking attack by using a Chinese IP address - the Web equivalent of a street address or phone number.
The Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported, citing the January edition of its sister magazine Monthly Chosun, that hackers used a Chinese IP address and that North Korea is suspected of involvement. The Monthly Chosun cited South Korea's National Intelligence Service and Defense Security Command.
Yonhap news agency also reported the hackers used a Chinese IP address. It said the North's involvement was not immediately confirmed, also citing military officials it did not identify.

I know theres software you can download that will wipe an entire drive with up to and more then 72 passes of random 1s and 0s to make data unrecoverable.

But is there software [preferably freeware] that can do this for selected files?

I want to erase some files and have no worry that they'll ever be recoverable again, Namely banking information and the like.

Answer:Military Grade deletion for select files?

I know what your talking about--I used to do that sort of stuff. Word of caution, though I dont know any free utlities, low level formatting can be harmful.

I've read that if you install something, like an OS on an HD with previous data, that works just as good. In otherwords, overwiting permanently deletes files.

QinetiQ’s espionage expertise didn’t keep Chinese cyber- spies from outwitting the company. In a three-year operation, hackers linked to China’s military infiltrated QinetiQ’s computers and compromised most if not all of the company’s research. At one point, they logged into the company’s network by taking advantage of a security flaw identified months earlier and never fixed.

“We found traces of the intruders in many of their divisions and across most of their product lines,” said Christopher Day, until February a senior vice president for Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ)’s Terremark security division, which was hired twice by QinetiQ to investigate the break-ins. “There was virtually no place we looked where we didn’t find them.”

I stumbled upon a GREAT deal on an Un-Advertised special on Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Edition, at the Navy Exchange today. Full version, marked as a Military Appreciation Edition for $ 59.99. I was skeptical and but couldn't pass it up. Did some searching when I got home and only found two hits on Google... One on an another forum stating the same thing I'm doing now (he got his a AAFES). The second was a closed ebay auction where it went for $127.

Just passing the word for my military family, I may head back tomorrow for another.

All,

After a big Windows update push occurred during this month PKI authentication has been intermittent for military common access cards (CAC).

CACs have been locking once inserted into a card reader, without any authentication/PIN attempts. Some users can browse to a .mil website, select their certificate, and then receive a PIN attempt warning (last time to enter PIN correctly before CAC is locked)
before even entering a PIN. Thereafter, some users can successfully authenticate on the next attempt; whereas, other users are left with a locked CAC. Some users do not receive this warning at all and their CAC does not lock. This incident is really weird!

Is there an update that got released, within the last month, that could possibly affect the cryptographic service provider or cryptoAPI, or cause intermittent PKI problems?

Or company smart cards don't have an issue authenticating during login or anything. We just have problems when end users attempt to authenticate using their CAC with a .mil website.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

A range of crucial satellite systems manufactured by some of the world?s biggest government contractors contain severe vulnerabilities that could be exploited to disrupt military operations and flight-safety communications, researchers have warned.

Security consultancy IOActive says it has uncovered various vulnerabilities in software and ground-based satellite systems manufactured by British suppliers Cobham and Inmarsat. US firms Harris Corporation, Hughes and Iridium were also said to have produced vulnerable kit, alongside Thuraya, a UAE provider, and Japan Radio Company.

The US Computer Emergency Response Team based in Carnegie Mellon University, which is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, warned about a handful of the vulnerabilities in January.

But on Wednesday information on more alleged weaknesses was released, amid growing concern the contractors are ignoring the threats. The latest report from IOActive suggested there were some easily hackable systems, many of which were designed for keeping aircraft, ships and army personnel safe.

The group typically gains a foothold in sensitive networks by attaching booby-trapped documents to e-mails, according to a 62-page report published Monday by Crowdstrike, a firm that conducts forensic investigations on behalf of customers who have suffered security breaches. When employees click on the documents, the attackers are able to gain control over their PCs. The attackers then use the PCs to take control of servers housing blueprints, customer lists, or other sensitive datahttp://arstechnica.com/security/2014/06/chinese-military-tied-to-prolific-hacking-group-targeting-us-aerospace-industry/ This is a perfect example of why you should never click on attachments from unknown sources. My uneducated, but perhaps rational, response to this and other attacks using Office would be:
1. assume that Office will not be free of vulnerabilities for 'quite a few years'
2. MS - make a secure version that always runs inside a sandbox (built-in to Office)
3. Equip it with detection abilities, such as provided by buster sandbox analyser
4. Take action when 'buster' is suspicious e.g. abort Office
5. Always empty the sandbox when Office closes

How much easier is that than reactively fixing vulnerabilities as they arise ?

It just seems to make more sense ???????????

Hello, folks.

I'd just like to say that I have been coming here for quite some time and never even needed to make a single post because you had all the answers waiting for me, and I should thank you all a great deal for that. One of the finest communities on the web, and I'm proud to say I've linked at least a couple of dozen people to these boards, if not more. They all have recieved great help as well.

This time, however, I don't think I am capable of helping myself, and I think I require the assistance of a pro. I myself, while having been able to help myself before, really have very little knowledge of this stuff. Now, I did almost everything in the READ ME AND RUN ME FIRST thread, a few things I was not able to do. I think I know which malware problems I have, I am just unsure of how to rid myself of them, and I'd rather not take a chance and delete something important.

Anyway, I have attached my HiJack This log file, hopefully someone can find the time to help me as this site has many many times before.

Thanks, all the best...

-Eric

Answer:Long time reader, first time poster...Big time problem...

I need the logs from the two online scans listed in the READ ME.

6: Online Virus And Trojan Scanning

Please run the below two online scanning tools and make sure you save and attach the logs later to any request for help that you post. From step 5 you should already be in safe mode but you will need to reconnect your cable now and possibly reboot and choose Safe Mode with Networking Support. If you cannot connect in safe mode for any reason (like dial-up users), run the online scanners in normal boot mode. You will need to use Internet Explorer to run these online scans.

*** MAKE SURE YOU RUN BITDEFENDER BEFORE PANDA ACTIVE SCAN ***

Bitdefender agree to the license and then select Scan. Once Bitdefender completes the scan:

Click-on Click here to view the report

When the window comes up with the report. Click File, Save As.... and then change the Save as type to Text File (*.txt)

Change the file name to something short like bdscan1.txt

Then save it to your Desktop or anywhere else you can find it to upload here as an attachment.

Post the bdscan1.txt file as an ATTACHMENT.

Panda ActiveScan It will only fix certain viruses and trojans. Most items found will not be fixed. When it finishes the scan click on See Report . Then in the next window click Save Report. The default report name is Activescan.txt. Just save it where you can find it so you can attach to your message when you begin a thread with a request for help.

Yesterday afternoon, I found a stand full of copies of Office 2003 Standard Edition labeled as "Military Appreciation Edition" at the Ft. Gordon (GA) PX. (For those that don't know, the PX -- or BX on Air Force Bases -- is the military equivalent to Wal-Mart: a store that sells just about everything.) The price for this "Military Appreciation Edition" was $59.95 -- and since I bought it on post, tax-free. Thinking that this was too good to be true, I tried asking a sales clerk if the Office MAE was a standalone or update version -- I confused her so much that I had to show her the MAE box and a box of the Std. Upgrade version to help her understand my question better. (There was another custormer, a self-proclaimed "computer expert," who was so confused with my question that he thought I asked if I could use the Office MAE to update Windows XP....)

Long story short: Has anyone here heard of a "Military Appreciation Edition" of Microsoft Office? And is it a full version of the Standard Edition software or an upgrade?

I tried going online and searching for information about the MAE (specifically, as compared to just Office in general), but my search results came back empty. I also tried Microsoft's website but it didn't mention anything about the MAE. My search at AAFES, the military's online store for the PX/BX, came up empty as well. And nobody that I know knew anything about a "Military Appreciation Edition.&... Read more

It's critical that my PC keeps the exact time as I record TV shows on it so just a few seconds off one way or the other will make me miss the start or end of my shows.

I found it was drifting off too much between syncs so I found a program that lets me set it to sync daily, however it seems like most of the time it gets the time completely wrong, often as much as 30-90 seconds off. I did notice that when syncing manually in the time settings it normally gets the right time each time, so I don't know why the scheduled syncs get the wrong time.

I did try several of the time servers with the same results.

Is there just no way to get the Windows time sync to work properly and if not are there free third party programs that can do it reliably?

Thanks

If I am in the wrong forum, please let me know.

About a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).

Therefore, I can't use or edit the program.

Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.

Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.

Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine?

I am a novice user but I can follow instructions.

However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.

Or is it obvious that it's a software problem?

I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.

I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Regards.

Hi,
I am using Nokia Lumia 720. The results are the best so far.
However today I started facing following issue.
It is giving me the message 'Slide down to power off' automatically in regular intervals without clicking any button.
When I slide down it should shut down and stay shut down till I start again, however it is restarting automatically and again flashing the same message.
The middle button is not working for me.
Can anyone please advice me what can be the solution for this ?

Seems like the power button is stuck. If your phone is still under warranty, send it for repair. If not, try removing the battery cover. then turn on the phone without the cover installed.

Avast Anti-Virus prevents to send emails time to time, it occurred on a computer in my home network, and then on the other one. This Avast does not issue any messages, just emails remain in the Outbox and do not
appear in Sent items.
I know three ways to send emails in this situation. All this three ways are bad.
  1) Exclusion of scanning outgoing emails in the avast settings. This is bad, since sending emails goes unchecked.

  2) Exclusion of checking port 80 in the avast settings. I found it here -

  3) Restart of the computer, just after restarting outgoing emails go normally.

Outlook Calendar shows start time in the monthly view but not the end time. I have right clicked on the calendar gone to Other Settings and checkmarked "Show End Time" but the end time still does not show. How do I make the start and end time show in the monthly view?

Answer:Outlook Calendar shows start time in the monthly view but not the end time.

You did not say what version of Outlook.

I am using Outlook 2007 and note the same as you - only the start time is displayed. I note on mine, if the end time was displayed, there would be little to no room for the Subject title so for me, I would rather have the appointment title instead of the end time. I think in a crowded field (as the monthly view can be) that is best for most people.

I don't see a fix for you. However, for a workaround, with Outlook being in "focus", if you hover over the appointment with your mouse, then the stop time is also displayed in a bubble.

Hi there! I'm running windows xp home on an hp pavilion a400n, although I'm not sure that matters. I also use Firefox as my default browser.

I've downloaded a Google gadget, the calendar, to my desktop. I use the google calendar as my primary appointment book.

The problem is that the time in my calendar gadget and the time in my actual calendar aren't matching. I enter an appointment into my calendar, and then refresh my calendar gadget to see the updates, and the times on the gadget are on hour earlier than the actual calendar.

In trying to figure out what's happening, I also noticed that the timestamps on my messages, incoming and outgoing, are the same time frame off. When a message comes in or goes out, it immediately shows that it's an hour old.

I went in and made sure the operating system clock and the google gadget clock are on the same time and showing the same DST settings. But I'm still having the same problem.

Is there another clock setting I'm missing?

Help, please!

Since then when I receive text messages it shows as being hours in front now when we have not got there. E.g. How do I get the texts received to show as the current time?

Time Machine can't access the backup disk "MyShare". (or "OpenShare")
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 5.)

Finally, if I go into my Disk Utilities , there is no LaCie Wireless Space icon in the left column
&
However, there is a Wireless Sace (Time Machine) icon under the "Shared" column when I click on the computers hard drive icon on the desktop, BUT is states "Connection Failed"

I really have no idea where else to look and what else to do - other than contact LaCie - but they have not got back to me now for 3 days.

Any ideas????

Hello,

Satellite A100-192 PSAA9 with ATI X1600 video card.

Despite the fact that I have installed the most recent driver from the Toshiba support site, display darkens (turns off) from time to time with no apparent reason.

I turn off the computer by pushing the on button for several seconds.

When I turn the computer on, the display is still dark although computer boots.

Only after I take the computer battery off and on again and then turn the computer on, the display is OK.

I haven't been able to find out whether it's a hardware or software issue.

Computer is one and a half years old.

I wanted to find out whether anybody has had such an experience before I take the computer to the service center.

Answer:Satellite A100-192 PSAA9: display stills black from time to time

Do you use the Toshiba original preinstalled factory image??

One thing that was badly missing in Windows 8 Start Screen was a clock. But now, this shortfall too has been overcomed. Dave Smits has developed a clock application for Windows 8 Start Screen ? Clock Tile. The application makes your start screen complete with a tile that displays time in a live tile and supports x86 and x64 ARM processors. It however, does not include any options for customization. Another feature that is seen as a shortfall is that the date and time appear on a small pprtion of the large tile.
Apart from this, the app is good and ready for download from the Windows Store. Remember, when launched for the first time, Clock Tile asks for your permission to run in the background.

Playing Skyrim runs fine for at least 30 minutes before the bsod. This has happened several times, this is the most recent crash. Zip file attached.

Answer:BSOD playing Skyrim, 1000007E this time. New crash code each time

The latest BSOD was caused by the Linksys AE2500 driver, check if there's a newer version available.

Hi,
My Satellite P750 always shuts down on the first start up each day, but the 2nd start up works fine and no other problems..

I press the start up button and it runs for maybe 10-20 seconds then shuts down.. it does this both on battery or on mains power..

If I try to start again after this, it starts up fine.. sometimes it gives the option to boot in safe mode, or to run startup repair, but it always start up fine and runs normally..

I have tried start up repair when the option was given, and it makes no difference as the next day it does the same thing again..

Any advice much appreciated, and Im a little concerned that one day it wont start up second time..

The laptop is only about 6 months old, and otherwise runs great..

Thanks

Answer:Satellite P750 shuts down on start up 1st time but then works fine 2nd time

Hi

Recovery the notebook back to factory settings,.
Are you using the Win 8 or Win 7 system?

Usually the Win 7 notebooks supports an HDD recovery by pressing F8 -> Repair my Computer -> HDD recovery.

If the same problem will appear straight after the system has been recovered, I presume there is an hardware problem and an service technician should check the hardware parts.

hey guys,

i just bought a new M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard to enjoy great sound in a foobar2000 + flac combination.

i've successfully installed the Vista 32bit drivers in compatibility mode and everything worked fine until then.

after starting to listen to music, i've experienced that from time to time (doesn't matter if i do something with the PC or just leave it there only playing music) the sound starts hanging (and it sounds like stuttering) for 1-3 seconds. then it comes back to normal...and a few minutes later it happens again. it's VERY annoying...

tried playing with WMP (wasn't happy about it) but the same happens.
tried vista 64bit drivers but couldn't install them. tried old Windows XP SP2 drivers, installed fine but no sound.

any1 got any ideas?
am i the only one who has this issue? did i buy a broken soundcard?

please help.

thanx alot in advance

Answer:M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound hanging/stuttering from time to time

m-audio are not very 'windows' friendly. they really haven't released a decent driver for xp x64 yet, let alone vista. great cards for linux and apple though, and xp 32bit. i wonder if any of the E-MU options in this price range would fair better...you could always go usb/firewire gear for recording...

I've been using Webroot Anti-virus with Spy Sweeper but am looking to change as viruses have recently crippled my computer.

I am interested in using Avast and malwarebytes. Can they both be used for real time protection or would they conflict with each other (and/or take up too much resources)? I am looking at getting the paid version of malwearebytes for real time protection.

Would running only one of these programs as real time protection sufficiently protect my computer from virusues, malware and spyware or would using only one leave me vulnerable?

Thanks for any insight here.

Answer:Is it a good idea to run Avast and malwarebytes (real time protection) at the same time?

I see you have an open log topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/309829/google-redirect-fake-virus-warnings-antivirus-plus-popup-xp-security-center-and-other-assorted-issues/Please finish up there with m0le before making any changes to your system not called for by m0le.But to answer your question, I highly recommend Avast. As for MBAM, I use the free version for on demand scans. Read this:The full version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware includes the ability to schedule updates and provides a real-time malware protection module that stops malicious processes before they can infect your computer. The Protection Module is not intrusive as it utilizes few system resources and should not conflict with other scanners or anti-virus programs. Keep in mind that Malwarebytes does not act as a real-time protection scanner for every file like an anti-virus program so it is intended to be a supplement, not a substitute. Those who purchase the full version receive a license key via email which includes a lifetime of free upgrades and support. For corporate and business customers, annual licenses are required. Also:Choosing a security toolkit with anti-virus, firewall and anti-malware programs is a matter of personal preference, your technical ability and experience, features offered, the amount of resources utilized, how it may affect system performance and what will work best for your system. A particular combination that works well for one person may not work as well for anot... Read more

Hello Sonam.

Nice configuration. But it is the display driver that caused here.

Code:

What I have seen, the October edition is somehow problematic on a lot of machines. So I would suggest you to do what I did myself.....
Uninstall nVidia display driver using Driver Fusion , and then install an older version which was stable there.

And, you should install Service Pack 1.

I just replaced my laptop motheboard. With the new motherboard, time always reset after shutdown, and sometimes the little internet icon in the bottom right corner would be invisible. So i upgraded my bios, and still have same problem. I have a LENOVO G470 with InsydeH2O BIOS. I have an image of the bios attached. Also, the bios can read the HDD.

Answer:BIOS showing invalid info, time resets every time shut down.

Did you install a CMOS battery? Is it new or used?
Check the Time zone, make sure it's correct.

The time limit of the Slideshow for Backgrounds on the lowest setting in Win 10 is 1 minute.

Not sure if any one has already posted this and got replies...my T400 has a strange issue. it takes a lot time in pre-boot... a cursor blinks on the top left corner for 5+ minutes and then loads the 'Windows loading...' screen for about another 5 mins and finally shows the windows logon screen. Additionaly, when i hit shutdown, i am fine. if i hit restart - i am sitting there for ever.  my laptop has 8GB RAM + 256 GB SSD + Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Answer:T400 boot time takes long time & has issue with restart

Srini shared the following observation via twitter... perhaps the community can help?
