LED TV connects to router but not internet

Question: LED TV connects to router but not internet

Hello friends first time, long time. And essentially I have a dreaded problem with my "smart TV".

I have one of the Samsung Led Tv's but an older model like a series 5 or 6. The T.V. has been working fine for the year and a half I've had it. The software updated itself multiple times and nothing ever happened. However last night I had to move furniture around and left my modem and my wireless router disconnected for a good 2 or 3 hrs. This action apparently reset my wireless router. I reset the network and essentially created a new one. I connected an XBOXONE, 3 laptops, 1 tablet and 2 phones and a wireless printer to the network and they all work fine. But for some reason the LED does not want to connect to the internet.

At first it was the apps that didn't connect and essentially the entire machine could not do anything related to the internet. So I went online and tried all kinds of tricks which included doing a factory reset, but that didn't work. Also I tried to manually plug those google DNS numbers of 8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4. and no cigar. I tried a few cycles where I unplugged the T.V. and the router and modem for a few minutes and nothing. I called my ISP Time Warner Cable who said the problem was with Samsung. I contacted Samsung and got no response. I contacted the manufacturer of the wireless router (Medialink) who told me to change the encryption and the WPS settings. I played around with the WPA AND WPA 2 and the WPA AND WPA2 AND THE AES AND THE TKIP AND BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. And absolutely nothing works the crooked thing still wont connect to the internet. I have read somewhere that for people with comcast routers they needed to get rid of parental settings but my router doesn't have that. I tried to disable WPS and that made it worse. So I put everything back the way it was. I don't know if the issue has anything to do with static vs Dynamic Ips or what. I wonder if anyone can give me another tip I may have skipped over. Could it be the internal network adapter is damaged all of a sudden and from pure coincidence independent of the reset?

Is there a way to set all of these things manually?

I have attached pictures of the whole process so you can see what I mean.

I can't figure out how to link so:

Preferred Solution: LED TV connects to router but not internet

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: LED TV connects to router but not internet

That's a great set of pictures to illustrate the issue. As yet I've not bought a smart TV and your post has made me less likely to buy one. In your situation I'd try another factory reset for the TV and then set it up with a cable connection to the router. Assuming that goes well revisit wi-fi concentrating on the router settings.

Bought a new router (dlink one can't remember model) and it wouldn't connect to my internet. I now am trying a linksys one and it has the same problem.

My current working setup is an old DIR 826-L. I can connect just fine to my modem which is run on wireless internet with Rural Wave in Canada.

I bought a new router Linksys AC1200+ just to get some better range and speed as my old router is just super old. When I power cycle everything my new router just doesn't connect. In the UI (I can connect to the routers UI meaning there is a wireless connection working) I have everything correct (pppoe user+pass) but still no connection. The router also states there is no internet connection in the UI.

MY old router will 100% work if I plugged it in right now ... what gives? I have tried pinging google and it cannot find it. If I ping the League of Legends server with the (-t) command it says destination net unreachable.

I can fix 95% of home computer problems, but this is seriously evading me ... I;m stuck with a million year old router .... Thanks

Hello!
I have a dlink wda 2320 wireless adapter in my desktop that had up to a week ago been working great with a dlink router, but I just moved and the router I now use is a Cisco/Linksys e3000. I can successfully connect to the router itself but cannot get to the internet. My two laptops (dell vista32, lenovo win7 64) and all other computers in the house have no trouble. I have reseated the card, deleted adapter/scanned for new hardware, and reinstalled/downloaded new drivers but all to no avail. How can I get to the internet?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Answer:Connects to router, not internet

Do IPCONFIG /ALL with the wireless adapter connected to the router and post it here.

Also check to make sure no proxy settings are on in your browser.

Hi. For a week now, we have been dealing with an issue on our sons laptop. We decided to update the 4 year old computer (hence he NEVER updated the machine ever). After all the Windows Updates and such, IE7 upgraded to IE9 and hasnt worked. The computer itself is connected by a wireless router, Linksys E2000, but will not be connected to the internet.

At this point we have uninstalled all the updates that we have previously installed except for Service Pack 2. And still nothing. All the IP address do not conflict with each other. Everything looks fine. Tried spyware and malware, taking down firewalls, and still NOTHING.

His laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ50, running Vista SP2. Network adapter is an Atheros AR5009 802.11 and router is an Linksys E2000. ( I understand that the adapter and router do sometimes conflict each other but I have installed the SP48070.exe and that did nothing as well.)

Internet Explorer gives Address not valid with any website (http:///) and Internet Explorer can not display webpage. However, it does try to load but comes up with nothing.

PLEASE help

Hello, I need some help...i have a linksys wrt54gxv2 router and my internet is a dsl modem from the local phone company. Something is not with my router. First of all I have used my mother in laws router to check my computer, dsl modem, and everything else and the issue is only with the linksys router. And yes I have factory reset my router a few times as different forums online have suggested that accompanied with many other things to ?try?. My computer connects with the router just fine, I can open the router setup and everything there. My issue is when I plug in the cable from my modem to the router my computer still connects to the router fine but there is no internet. When I troubleshoot that connection it says ?Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)?. Below I have pasted the results from my CMD ipconfig command. Please help me

Answer:COMPUTER CONNECTS TO ROUTER BUT NOT INTERNET

Hi, I've had a problem with my friends brand new netbook.
I'm usually good with network related problems however nothing I can find is incorrect.

3 Computers Connect to the router and internet with no problems.
The Netbook however connects to the router, shows up as an attached device in router config, but not the internet.
Ipconfig simply said the Media was disconnected.
Subsequently Ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx revealed nothing.
The netbook uses WinXP Home, and one of the 3 working computers uses WinXP Home also.

Furthermore, resetting the router changed nothing
Using Ethernet cable had no result
And just to check if it was a driver fault, I tried my wireless broadband which also failed.

Strangely i did notice when the netbook had just stopped working, in network places there was a Internet Connection Icon, set to "Disabled". When i enabled it, nothing changed, after a re-boot it was gone.

Anti-Virus also found nothing.

I'm hoping I can find a result, because my friend seems to have a weird obsession with getting me to reformat his hard disk and fresh installing every time he has a problem!!

Thanks.

I know that propably it's not a Windows 10 related topic but I didn't know where else to ask that.
I searched a bit on the Internet for a solution and I couldn't find any.

So whenever my brother opens his laptop and connects to the Wifi every other PC loses connection.
Router generaly is starting to act weirdly, random disconnects, connecting again for little, then again disconnecting etc etc...

Does anyone know what could be the problem and if you have something to suggest?

I don't feel like posting any info of the laptops we have here since i believe it's quite irrelavant to the problem.
The problem is what can my brother's laptop do in order to effect so much the Internet connection.
Yes i close all his downloading actions or programs that use Internet and still problem occurs.

Here in my house every one is completely clueless about technology and they think that ''just the Internet is bad and his PC doesn't affect it at all''...
So I am kinda the only hope to fix this.

Answer:Router Disconnects from the Internet only when a certain PC connects!

Did your brother recently upgrade to windows 10?
This happened to a customer of mine just after upgrading. Every device would disconnect from Wifi when the PC was connected. No devices could connect either. After disabling the PC's network-adapter, the devices could connect immediately. Unfortunately, I had not much time to investigate (customer needed the PC). However, a clean install solved the problem.

Could it be related to this problem?
https://www.tenforums.com/network-sharing/13464-one-windows-account-causes-router-wi-fi-turn-off.html

Perhaps it's dhcp starvation. Worth investigating.

My Dell laptop with WindowsXP will connect at McDonalds and at Best Buy but will not connect to the internet at home. It will connect to wireless router with a good connection but says it can not connect to internet. If I hard wire it the laptop works fine, also my Wii is connected to the router and have not problems with it.

Answer:Laptop connects to router but not internet

what type of security are you using at home ?

remove the wireless profiles and re-enter the key

also try logging into the router - removing the security - then connect - if that works - log back into the router and put the security back on and see if it now connects

------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to remove Wireless Profiles - for XP
http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm
- XP
http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=186
- delete the preferred networks
start> control panel> network connections> right click on the wireless connection> listed wireless networks tab in the preferred network list click on each one and - remove button

you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to - so make sure you know the correct password , and not using an incorrect password at all

I've been struggling with my Gateway LT40 for some time now. On wireless it will connect to my router, but shows my LAN as an unidentified network. I can see and ping the other computers on my network, but when I ping the router I get 'Destination unreachable'. Ethernet works fine, I can see the internet and my network. I have tried just about everything I have found on numerous troubleshooting sites without success.

Am running a Netgear wired router using a Netgear PCI network card GA311 on a desktop PC. It used to work fine but have not been using the desktop on line for several months (using it standalone for music recording etc. without connecting to the web at all). Needed to get online yesterday and found it just wont connect to the internet. It has always been protected with Webroot Spysweeper and Window Washer and Zone alarm comprehensive package (until April 2009 when I was last online).

The same router works perfectly wired to a Toshiba laptop and a Dell laptop (and both run happily concurrently). I am on the Toshiba now.

SO really puzzled about the desktop. Have switched off Windows Firewall, uninstalled anything which might be blocking access (zonealarm) and I will reinstall latest protection once its working again.

Any suggestions please?

thanks

Hi,I'm on the Vista Home Edition and it connects to my Belkin router just fine (wirelessly), but for some reason it won't connect to the Internet. The picture display on the Vista shows the laptop connecting to the router with a green line, but the line connecting the router to the Internet has a red cross on it.I've disabled MAC addressing on the router and enabled SSID broadcasting, but still on the client list it doesn't show the Vista laptop. I'm kinda lost on what to do now, can anyone help please? Thank you.

Answer:Vista Connects to Router but not Internet - Help!!

Does the computer connect to the internet when you connect the two with a cable? If so disable your wireless security and try the wireless connection again. Re-enable security with a new passphrase if you can connect successfully. It doesn't sound as if you are actually connected to the router to me.MAC filtering is virtually worthless and not required if you set up WPA or WPA2 encryption.

say I have a Cisco RV series router, that c/w 2 x WAN. Can I connect the server to 1 of the WAN, have the internet cable modem connects to the other WAN, and let the users access the server and users going to the internet, and yet prevent people outside to access to the server?

In other words, is there a way to block all traffic on a router level on the server?

the server is a file back up server, they want people to drag and drop files to the server for backup, but they don't want hacker to go thru the internet to the server

anyone?

Answer:Can you make a server connects 2 x WAN router NOT on the internet?

Well, the only way to keep a hacker out is to not be on the internet at all.
Let's say you isolate that backup server so the hacker can't get directly to it, all he would have to do is hack one of the client machines and then he can access the backup server.

Hey everyone,

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1505) connects to my router (Dynex, which is a Belkin but renamed to make it cheap) and I can configure the router properties from it, but I cannot see the other computer on the network, (This one, which means that the wired connection is working. I can wire the laptop to the router and it will work perfect.) I cannot connect to the internet either, even though it says full speed and excelent connection.

I have read over the other posts and tryed changing the channels, (I have tryed 1, 6, and 11), I have disabled firewalls, and all security as far as I can tell, and I have tryed changing the ip adress to other numbers just incase my modem was conflicting in some way. I have tryed connecting to other networks (the one at borders and starbucks) and it still does the same thing.

Hi,

So for some reason, when I try to use my laptop to connect to the Internet here, as soon as I connect, I get a 'Limited or no connectivity message' and the router stops providing access to the Internet for every other computer connected to it (so as soon as I open that laptop and it tries to connect to the router, no one else in the house has access to the Internet and I have to unplug/plug the power cord back in the router for the Internet to start working again).

It happened without any reason that I know of. It worked normally before, I haven't used it in a week and so when I tried to connect again, it suddenly stopped working...

Is this a common issue? Any solutions? Thanks

P.S. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Answer:Laptop connects to router = stops internet

Who is the manufacturer for your router?

Belkin, Netgear, Cisco/Linksys, etc..?

I know some older model Netgear & Belkin routers have had a tendency to kill the internet after so many devices connected use an unparticular amount of bandwidth... thus I have now invested in a Cisco/Linksys router... problem hasn't re-appeared since.

Hi All,

I hope someone can help me as i am pulling my hair out here!

I have a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit pre-installed.

The symptoms are that it won't connect wirelessly to my router at home, but will connect with a wire to the same router, and furthermore it will also connect either wired or wirelessly to the network at my office (this is an unsecured wifi network). I never have any problems at work, only at home, and only then with wifi - wired connection works fine.

I did an IP config thingy and got this..... I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Answer:New PC Windows 7 64 bit, connects to wifi router but not to internet

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Try refreshing your wireless network profiles by removing all of them then just add your own SSID (wireless network).
Wireless Network - Remove

If that didn't help, you may changing your wireless security (WEP, WPA or WPA2), make sure that you are on WPA2, it's the safest and most secured.

Hi new to this forum and to wireless networks. Thanks to the info on these forums I've managed to overcome most of the common problems but one remains. I've installed a Netgear 108 wireless router and the desktop pc accesses the internet no problem. Had some trouble configuring the laptop (centrino inside)but manually entered IP address/default gateway etc and now have an excellent connection via the router. Problem is on signing onto AOL. It can't locate the modem or words to that effect. However the laptop picked up a weak signal from a neighbour's unsecured wireless network so I tried connecting to AOL out of curiosity and connection was instant! Why is this? Can anyone help please!

Please if anyone can help me out that would be great. I recently bought a new router because I thought that was the problem. I called my service provider (Wowway), they checked my modem (provided by them) and said everything coming "in" is fine but the router is not functioniny properly. So, I bought a new one and everything is connected properly. I have a Arris TM602G modem (provided by wowway) and a brand new Netgear N300 wireless router. My internet works when the modem is directly connect to the computer but when the router is hooked up my internet doesn't work at all. When I do ipconfig /all with the router connected this is what I get.

Some time ago i moved my computer for a lan session. At this lan session i disabled my wireless adapter and enabled my lan adapter. One i returned home i replaced my computer where it was and disabled the lan adapter and re-enabled the wireless adapter. With the aerial i was using before my problem i can't see any networks at all. With a different aerial i can see the network and the signal strength is excellent. But when i try to connect, either windows will tell me it can't connect or when it does it has limited connectivity. It won't give me internet access and even though it says its connected i cant access the routers set-up page. Now none of the settings on either my computer or the router has changed. Only the physical movement and the turning on and off of the adapters is different from when it did work and now that it doesn't. Earlier today, internet explorer stopped responding and after closing it and reopening it I was brought to the 'Internet explorer cannot display the webpage' in the taskbar my wireless connection status reads 2WIRE625 connected but No internet access, 2 othe machines in my house are wirelessly connected and have no problems. I have tried connecting to public wifi sources and via wired connection to my router and I experience the same results. As I began to bumble around various forums troubleshooting, it now reads 'Internet Access' as if everything were sound, but the connection problems remain. I don't know what to do, and I am unhappy.

Answer:Windows 7 connects to router yet says No Internet Access

It sounds like winsock or the network stack is messed up so it may help to reset them.

Unzip the file below and run the file, let it run until your machine reboots itself.

Post the ipconfig/all after that if possible.

I am using a Linksys BEFW1124, v.2 router (802.11b) for my wireless network. (I know it's old but it works fine for me). It is hardwired to my Gateway desktop running XP SP2.

My daughter tried to connect her Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop to my home wireless network. She found the network SSID but when she put in the WEP key from the router, it wouldn't connect. That led us to check my Dell Inspiron 6000 which was, and has been, connected. When we checked the Network key on the 6000, it only had 8 spaces (asterisks) instead of the 10 for the router's WEP. Yet it still worked ok.

My Inspiron 6000 uses an Inter(R)PRO/Wireless 2915ABG network adaptor. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties, Network Connections, under Wireless Network Key it says:

This network requires a key for the following:

Network Authentication: Open

Data Encryption: WEP

Network Key: [8 asterisks]

I tried to put in the 10 digit WEP key from the router, confirmed it, when I clicked "OK" the laptop was connected. But in the "Network Key" box, there were again only 8 asterisks.

I'm obviously glad my laptop is connected at home (and my daughter's laptop connects to her wireless network in her apartment in another city). And when I go on trips, I've had no problem in hotels connecting to their wireless networks. And she apparently connects fine at other locations.

I'm sure both the laptops can utilize WAP, but my old router only has WEP. and... Read more

Ok guys, to start things off I recently moved so I had to change from using a wired connection to a wireless connection. I bought a Netgear Wireless - N Router (WNR2000) and a Wireless-N 300 USB adapter. I'm running vista home premium x64 SP2.

Everytime I diagnose the problem, it gives me the "there may be a problem with your DNS configuration" or the "cannot communicate with primary dns server". I have tried everything of my power, and I have called my ISP and router company. Both were useless. I have tried manually setting my dns servers but it didn't work, and usually gives me the "cannot communicate.... primary server" junk. I would be very grateful if you guys could help. I just set-up a new cisco wireless router and I was able to get my work laptop to connect without a problem, but not my personal one. The router is working fine as evidenced by the one laptop working just fine. When I try and access the internet from my personal laptop it connects to the router, but cannot connect to the internet. When I try and diagnose the problem it says:

Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server(209.18.47.61)
Network diagnostics pinged the remoted host but did not receive a response.

There is an option to Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" and an option to Reset the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection", but they don't resolve the issue at all. It says that Windows tried a repair, but a problem still exists.

I see there was a similar post in March 2008, but I tried following the same steps with no success.

If there are any suggestions, please let me know.

Hey.

You could go into your router under the WAN settings and set the preferred or primary dns to be 208.67.222.222.

If that doesn't help, Google for the correct way to completely uninstall the Bonjour service, specifically for your x64 machine.

I have a windows 7 computer that was connected wirelessly to my router and internet worked fine. One day i woke up and the internet would not work. The computer is still connected to the router but no internet access. There are other computers on the network that connect fine. I have also tried connecting my computer directly to the modem and still no internet. Running windows diagnositc tells me there is no default gateway available. Ive cycled the modem and router probably a million times and even taking the pc to another house to try on a different router and still no go.

I have the Linksys WRT150N v1.1 router. I have been using it for about 1 and a half years with no problems. My OS is Windows Vista and I am on a broadband/cable connection.
Everything was running fine until this morning. I turned on my PC and was given a message about limited connectivity. I checked my connection settings and it said I was on a "Local" network. I looked at the router. All lights were still on. I checked my cable modem. Everything was fine there too.
First I reset my cable modem. Didn't work. Then I reset the router. Still didn't work. I flushed my DNS cache, tried both static and dynamic IPs and tried connecting with another PC. Nothing.

I have my PCs, XBOX and PS3 connected by wire and use my DS wirelessly. None of them can connect through the router now... Though when I tried my PS3, it gave me a message saying that it couldn't connect because of a DNS error.

I called my ISP. They ran me through the basics and said everything looked fine on their end.
I then bypassed the router and connected strait to the cable modem. IT WORKED! Even my PS3 worked this way. No errors.
Any ideas what may have caused this or how to fix it? I have not installed any new programs in the last month and, other than today, I haven't touched the router settings in 6 months.

Please help!
Oh. And I can still access the router through my browser. Like I said, everything looks fine. I just can't figure this out...

Answer:Solved: Router no longer connects to internet

Reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it. Remember to power cycle your modem when switching from computer to router (or vice versa).

If it still does not get you internet access login to the router and see if there are any hints in the WAN (internet) status page or any error logs.

Both of those are addressed below.
Hope this helps.

We have recently been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters over the last few months, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines
- the poster did an online scan for driver updates on the HP website here HP Product Detection which resulted in a solution. Solved: Can't co... Read more

I've been running a set-up with my two roommates for almost 2 years now. We use a hard-wired router for internet connections, and recently mine quit working. I still can connect to the router itself, but not to the internet. The other two computers still have great connectivity. I've tried manually changing the I.P. address which doesn't solve any problems. Cycling the router and/or modem does nothing, and repairing the connection tells me that nothing is wrong with it.

It's been really frustrating and I'd love to solve this problem. I haven't tried directly plugging my computer into the modem (instead of through the router)...would that tell me anything? Any help would be fantastic.

Answer:Computer connects to the router, but not to the Internet... Others work fine

Ok, I have tried direcly connecting to the modem and the same problem happens. It says that I am connected at 100mps (just like the router) but i cannot access anything online. Pinging sites such as google comes back negative. Running ipconfig/renew or release does nothing (i think because I put in a manual IP...if i have it set to find its own IP, it gives me Limited or No connectivity). ipconfig/flushdns comes back ok. I'm pretty stuck here...could it be something wrong with my laptop's hardware?

As long as my PC is connected to my dsl modem directly, I have Internet access. As soon as I try inserting a router into the mix, I lose all Internet connection.

I initially thought something had gone wrong with my router; so, I purchased a new one and still I am receiving the same problem. I have done numerous power cycles and tried reconnecting everything was connected properly: pc>router>modem>phone line.

I deactivated my firewall thinking that was the problem, but nothing changed.

I am not sure what else to try. I guess the plus side is that I do have access to the Internet, but would love to get the router working in order to use our laptops and phones and other devices with wifi.

I did perform this task. However, it was performed while I am only connected to my dsl modem and not the router.

I was asked this by a "friend" online and had no ideas, so thought I would ask you here.
here is the situation

Asus laptop running Windows 7 and it keeps dropping it's internet connection. It connects for a minute or two then drops the connection, but stays connected to the router.
The computer connected driectly to the router via ethernet cable works fine, and another laptop connecting wirelessly does too, so the problem has to be with that computer somewhere.
And they hae tried the following:

- Rebooted laptop & modem
Booted into Safe Mode with Networking
Did a clean boot
Uninstall and reinstall Wireless NIC
Deleted drivers and reinstalled brand new up to date drivers
Did system restore to before the problem started
Reset Windows Firewall to "proper settings for your computer"
Disabled Windows firewall
Disabled Comodo firewall
Ran full Malwarebytes scan & removed three objects
Ran Comodo AV quick scan of system type files
Set TCP/IP 4 to static IP, Gateway, & DNS severs
Deleted the network connection & recreated it

None of the above made any difference, My inclination is that the NIC is pooched, anybody got any other ideas of things to try?

Answer:Windows 7 connects to router but keeps dropping connection to Internet.

It's the router that establishes and maintains the internet connection, not any attached computer, so have you examined its status lights? If the internet light is permanently green there could be a missing or faulty filter in the house somewhere, not necessarily the one the router is attached to, or the house internal phone extension wiring may have a fault. If the internet light is intermittently going amber, and you have ruled out any of the above problems, then it's the phone line itself or your ISP's kit at the exchange. You need to be absolutely certain it isn't an internal issue before calling out the line provider or your ISP. Here in the UK that can prove rather expensive!

I'm assuming here that this is a phone line connection rather than satellite or cable of course.

Hello,

I have a Netgear MR814v2 Wireless Router, and a MA111 USB Wireless Adapter. I have setup WEP and enabled wireless connection on the router. I have installed and setup the key on the adapter from my computer. I set the IP address to auto, and it grabs the ip of 192.168.0.4 from the router.

2 other pc's that are WIRED, gets .2 and .3 endings. So no conflicts. They both can access the internet just fine.

My computer gets a strong connection from the router, and the router registers the computer into it's log, so eveything seems fine, except I CANNOT get internet access.

When trying to ping the router, it gets timed out! What is the problem here? This adapter works on another network so i know its not the adapter.

I'll try to update firmware of the router when i get home. Does anyone know if that usb adapter MA111 has firmware upgrade available?

Please help!

Interesting situation... I was hoping someone could shed some light.

Old network card was a D-Link DWL-G510 "g" card. It connects to my Netgear WGT624 v3 (108 mbps) router just fine. In fact, I've had to resort to using it right now to type this message...

New network card is a Netgear WG311T card (wireless 108 mbps). I can connect to the router, and the Netgear assistant shows that I am, indeed connected. However, I can't connect to the network, or even access the router using 192.168.1.1 (the address used by the Netgear router). The latest drivers are being used.

For what it's worth, here are the other stats of relevance:

Windows XP, SP2 (patched)
Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro (nForce3 250 GB, socket 754)

It doesn't matter which PCI slot I use; the results are the same.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Netgear WG311T wireless connects to router, but no internet

Verify your WEP key matches that of the router; if you enabled MAC filtering on the router, make sure the new MAC address is allowed; and verify the client obtains an IP address from the router.

Hello, new guy here. Anyways, I have a problem trying to look for a solution for my problem. As I stated, I got cable installed in my apartment and then I tried to hook up my existing router, D-link 524 to it, but it doesn't get into the internet. I used to have this router in my parent's house and it would work without any problem.

But now, it can't connect to the internet. I tried running cmd, and I can't get a DNS through my router. I've tried doing a hard reset and restoring it to factory settings, follow the instructions, but the same thing happens. The router gets a "tone" but I can't get into the internet.

Help needed here.

I've reset the router countless times

Restarted computer countless times

I've tried system restore to a previous point

Disabled firewall

Reset winsock

I don't know what else to do.

Please bare in mind that with me being unable to access the Internet on my netbook I am posting this via my iPhone and therefore I won't be able to copy and paste any information direct, but I can type out any lines if you give specific details on which bits you'd need to help diagnose my problem

I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium that I've owned for just over two years.

Last night, after a couple of hours using the internet, the connection stopped. The wireless router still had an 'Excellent' signal, but it also said I had no internet access. All of the other wireless devices in my house connect to the internet perfectly, including when right next to the laptop.

I've tried disabling the firewall and resetting the computer a few times, but nothing seems to pick up the internet access. The troubleshooting guide tells me that it is a problem with the wireless modem, but quite obviously that isn't true.

I haven't installed anything on the computer for several months, and I have already ran a full virus check. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance!

Ignore my earlier post titled "domain not set.invalid - How do I fix the problem". Domain not set.invalid may not be the problem.

had a power surge at my house and it took down my internet. I had to reset my router back to factory settings and I finally got the router to work with my PC. But I cannot access the internet from my iPad 2 or my Android phone. Both devices see the network and can hook up to the network but the internet is not working on either device. I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Any ideas?

Hi Guys,
I'm really hoping somebody out there can help me with my problem as i desperately need to get to be able to use this laptop.
Basically my problem is is that the laptop connects to the router fine (when a click n a link that shows me all the avialable networks it says i'm connected my network, yet in the network sharing centre it shows n connectin to the internet).
I have other laptops and computers in the house that can easily connect to the internet, just this one doesn't seem to want to do that.
I have phne up my internet provider, gone through a number of procedures and tehy have said it is something to do with the laptop itself.
Please can anyone help me and suggest possible solutions.
I'm no genius with laptops and computers so a dummy proof step by step guide would be helpful... id be more than appreciative :)
Thanks.

How to fix Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop so it connects to wireless internet and via cable (Virgin Media Router)?
Hi all, please help!I have not been able to connect to the internet on my home WIFI network/via cable or the WIFI at work since Monday evening I have restarted my laptop and reset the "D Link D1-524 High Speed Router" several times - separately and simultaneously according to my laptop and Virgin Media's instructions over the phone. Virgin Media said that it was a problem with my laptop as my IP address starts with "165.254"...as of last night it started "192.". I have also called Dell who have not helped at all.Are there any drivers I can download from the Dell website to fix this issue or another safe program I can download? I want to download drivers or programs to a USB and transfer the files to my laptop...as I have no internet access. My computer wireless menu states the following:Unidentified NetworkNo Internet AccessThen it shows a list of NetworksMy Network - Connected/Limited AccessPlease help I want to sort this out asap! Thanks!

The bold print makes it harder to read and sometime people do not respond to these posts.

Did you power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Power on the ISP modem router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on your wireless router(if any)

start, all programs, accessories, right click on cammand prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

ipconfig /release          (space between the g and /)

Restart your computer. Try to connect. What happens?

Does your wireless router have these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11?

What operating system are you using?

I recently purchased a new laptop from PC World which has Windows 8 on (recently upgraded myself to 8.1) and was set up in store by their 'Knowhow' team.
My laptop connects to the router fine (this is confirmed as I can access the laptop on other devices such as my old laptop or my smart TV) however there is either no internet access, or I have access for 2-3 minutes and then no further access.
If I connect to the router via an ethernet cable there are no issues at all and I have connected to my university wireless routers and routers at a friends house with no issues.
There are no issues when accessing the internet through the wireless with the other devices in my home so I'm assuming the issue lies with the wireless link between my laptop and router however after searching forums for this type of issue I haven't been able to fix the issue. I have already tried a few things however I'm happy to do these again and post the results if needed to cross fixes off the list.
If it helps, my laptop is a Samsung 5 series NP540U3C-AO2UK and the router is NetGear, provided by Virgin Media who also provide our internet.
Thanks in advance!

I have a windows 7 netbook. Sky broadband and a D-link DIR-301.
i disabled the wifi broadcasting on the sky router and connected the d-link router via Wifi. This works great to extend my range as i can now surf from around the house and most of the garden. An identical windows 7 netbook, a laptop and a desktop all connect wirelessly throughout the house with no problems via the Dlink router. Now my Windows 7 netbook refuses to connect to the internet via any of the routers. I have DHCP server set up correctly so i get all the ip addresses ok. I can access all computers on my network fine. The only way i can surf is via remote desktop to another computer.Anything to do with the web isnt working. Only internally. Any suggesitons?

Hi my name is Debbie and i will be very greatfull if you can help me with this issue that has been going on ever since i got ny laptop months ago.

I Have a router in my house which was bought to power both my Laptop and the main computer fvor the children e.t.c. the router is a BT_HUB-E-726 -

The main computer will pick up the router easily and will be connected within sedonds of switching the computer on. so this computer is fine ,which is enoying because i want to sit down and relax on my laptop which i am hardly ever able to do.

My Laptop which is a Toshiba Satellite 4070CDS, will easily find the router as when you click on view avaliable wireless networks it is always there saying that the router is in range i am only about 2 metres away fron it, so i then click on connect it takes a while to search and then it wont connect , the wireless network highlited in blue will dissapear for a short time the screen will go white wirth writing in the middle saying searching for wireless networks on range , then it will load back up again and we start the whole process again , - it will say unable to connect to wireless network, when clicked on repair it will try to repair and it will say unable to repair connection - unable to connect to the wireless network.

this is one of the very rare tines it has connected - in facrt i didnt connect it - earlier on today i loaded rthe computer up and tried all this try to connect and it not connect rubbish,i left the laptop on and about ha... Read more

Answer:My Laptop Hardly Ever Connects To Router

One common cause of your symptoms is having two wireless utilities (clients) running--they will conflict. One of the possibilities is Windows XP's Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC). From your description it sounds like you may be using this one.

To see if it is running: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - find Wireless Zero Configuration. If this is not the one you are using then Stop it and set the Startup Type to 'disabled.'

If there is another one it should have an icon in the Notification Area (System Tray) at the lower right beside the clock. Its name may include the manufacturer of your wireless adapter or maybe Toshiba. If you are not using it there should be an option to turn it off or 'use Windows.'

Im using a laptop in a building that has 5 wireless routers.. i can connect to one location . but not another ..same password. some users can connect to the one i can't connect to.. i can connect with my tablet but not my laptop..???

I would think it highly unlikely that 5 separate WiFi routers all have the same WiFi password.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me. I have my internet such that my internet is coming directly from my modem to my PC. I have a network cable going from my modem to wireless router as well so I can get wi-fi for my other devices. My PC, for whatever reason automatically connects to my router instead of the modem which is directly hard lined into the PC, and this is slowing down my internet speed. I know how to tell my PC to connect to my modem instead of the router each time I turn on my PC, but I was wondering if there's an option to permanently set it so it reads from the modem 100% of the time as opposed to going for the wi-fi connection. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:PC connects to router instead of modem.

Hello and welcome Nate do I have it right you have a modem and a router?

If so why have you got wifi running - for other users? in any case your PC should just pick up the wifi which should run at full speed in any case?

My own set up is a TP-Link modem/router and I just plug the phone connection into it and then the other machines into the ports - maybe a better option for you??

I live in a Assited care facility. They have a router that with some kind of repeaters scattered throughout the facilty providing WiFi to the residents. I have my own router that I am connected to. I use my own because the bandwidth changes throughout the day with the free one.
On occassion my computer changes to the free WI Fi but my printer does not. When this happens I cannot use the printer.
Is there a way to lock my WIFI to MY router and easily change it to the free router when I take my laptop to the instruction center. About once a week I teach basic computer operations and use the free Wi Fi. So I must allow the Wi Fi to shift in this case.

Answer:Computer connects to other router

You can tell Windows not to connect automatically to the other router / repeaters. It probably uses the same SSID, but there might be more than one router (per floor?)

You'll have to manually connect when you teach your course at the instruction center. You should be far enough away from your personal router so that it won't connect to that automatically.

Open Network and Sharing Center
Select Connect To
Modify any preferred networks - UNtick Connect automatically
Make sure that ONLY your router is set to Connect automatically.

Hi,

My laptop is unable to connect to our router unless I am right next to it. I am in a split level house. When I go downstairs in our family room the laptop will not connect or is very slow loading. Once I move the laptop next to the router everything is fine. Can you please advise what the problem is?

The lap top is an HP Pavilion with Windows 7. The router is netgear n750 WNDR4000. :Laptop was connected to internet this afternoon now this evening I have problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Laptop only connects to router when right next to it

For "right next to it," about 10 feet away line of sight, and for family room ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

hi, sorry if this is the wrong thread... for a long time now.. i havent been able to have ppl connect to my ftp site or send files thru dcc on mirc... and i THINK this all started after i got my linksys router....
is there a firewall in my router ??

thanks for any help

Answer:is my linksys router blocking ftp and dcc connects ?

Yes, your router has a firewall and it will block that traffic.

You will need to enable port forwarding (its under gaming and applications usually).

Forward port 21 to your FTP server. I'm not sure what the port for DCC is, but you will need to forward it also.

For port forwarding, you will need static IP addresses for you computers.

Hi everyone
I have a really annoying computer problem on my hands
I have a Linksys router that used to connect to both my desktop XP computer and my laptop (vista)
Recently, neither computer could connect to the internet
so I unplugged the router, turned both computers off for a while and basically did everything to refresh the conneciton
The next day my laptop was able to connect to the internet but my desktop wasn't and is still unable to
I'm assuming there must be something wrong with the desktop settings, but I'm not sure how to fix it
Please help before my laptop loses its connection too!
Thanks a lot, Kim

I have a Compaq Presario SR1020nx, with a 2.80 ghz Intel Celeron processor, 1024 mb ram, 80 gb Ultra DMA hard Drive, running Windows XP home edition SP2. I have Ad-aware Se, Tweeknow, Hijackthis, and AVAST anti-virus. I have a Microsoft wireless PCI adapter MN-720 loaded. It connects to a LINKSYS BEFW11S4 wireless router. I am a secured system running WPA-PSK. The distance between the two is about 30 feet (basement to second floor bedroom). There are 5 wireless signals in my neighborhood, 2 of which are unsecured. My wireless NIC will connect to my neighbors unsecured network before it will connect to my secured system. MY signal strength in house is listed as "Very good" or "Good" and the signal strength to his router is "Low". Why does my NIC connect to his system, when my signal is stronger, and how can I stop it from doing that? Then, since I don't know who this neighbor is, is it possible to send him a "Broadcast" message to tell him to secure his router?

Answer:Wireless NIC connects to neighbors router

I had a similar problem. Actually the easiest thing to do is adjust the wirleess nic settings so it only connects to your wireless router, make sure you have some kine of encryption set up(I recommend setting a pass key) and you should be good to go. Read ALL the documentation on setting up the encryptions on ALL your wireless devices, before you adjust the settings. This will prevent you from connection to his wireless, and will protect yours as well.

Sorry I missed the part about your WPA-PSK, please disregard. But, you should be able to set your nic so it will only connect to your router. And your Nic probably is just going the easiest route, due to certain settings. For some reason the one I have kept trying to connect to my neighbors as well till I set it to only connect to my router

I've been using Comcast cable internet just plugged into my Motorola modem just fine but now I have X-box live and I've had a router that I havn't used for a while so i dug it out so I could have my comp and my x-box hooked up at once.

Problem is I can't get online when i go through the router with my computer.X-box live connects and works great with no probs.

Tried all the wire switching and just having only computer hooked through router and doing resets and clicking to repair connection but nothing works so far.The rapair goes all the way through and shows it to be a success.

I have windows firewall off and run McAfee virus.
I'm using ethernet cables and my router is a Linksys befw11s4 broadband router.it used to work for me on this computer 6+months ago.

I'm not that good with networking so I'm sure its just something i need to set up on my comp or on the router but I'm at a loss so I'd love the help, THANKS

HI there, I have been having issues with my Maplin HomePlug units. These did work until recently with my laptop; I think a recent Windows update MAY have stopped access but not sure.
I have been tinkering trying to find out what is happening with my HomePlug system. I can say that all units work with my XBOX One so they are functional, connecting my laptop directly into the router gives me a connection but when I try to connect to the internet using the "verified working" HomePlug units they fail to connect, all lights on the HomePlugs go black but they come on intermittently trying to connect... any ideas or thoughts?
I am using a Dell Inspiron7 and Maplin 500Mbps Twin PowerLine Pass-Through units.

Im helping a computer illiterate freind with and older system. Keep in mind this machine DID connnect to router before i reformated his machine.

The motherboard is an Intel (Monterrey). Also has a LinkSYS card. Desk top can connect to modem no problem. When connected to a LinkSYS wireless wrt54g v5 router, It cannot read the router at all. if I ipconfig /all, I get the computers IP. And cant ping the router either. In hardware devices, shows the linksys card ok, 1394 net adaptor ok. Then theres a Broadcom 4211 network addaptor with an exclamation point. I still dont know what that is except for what I read in forums. One said it was an onboard chipset, others refered to dialup modem. So there Im stumped. Ive been looking everywhere for the driver. cant locate.

But the question is, Is that the reason I cant connect to the router? Again to remind, It CAN connect thru the cable modem with no problem. Ive tryed all the basic stuff, made sure TCP/IP is set to auto get IPs and DNS numbers, Used the laptop to connect via hard wire to the router and it connected fine. reset the modem, rebooted millions of times, Windows firewall on and off.

Unfortunatly I cant use the driver from the Gateway restore disks because The original OS was Windows Millinnium.

Gatway, intel and broadcom was no help at all. Im stumpt. Then again Im no expert by any means. Any help appreciated

Thanks

Hello everyone.
I'm having a weird problem. I can't access the router (by typing 192.168.1.1) if I'm not already connected to the internet wirelessly (by that same router, hilariously)
I am using windows vista and the router that I am using is a ZTE ZXV10 W300.
I think it has something to do with software, because I tested the router in another computer and it showed up fine on the url bar. It is also not a network card problem , because I purchased an ethernet to USB adapter a few hours ago to take it out of the equation. Still , when wireless is off, it keeps "identifying" and the loop goes on , and on infinitely.
I deleted all the old saved connections on my computer, rebooted a thousand times, restored the router to factory settings, did a malware scan. Nothing.
I then did (as an admin) the following procedures on command line:

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Rebooted after each, nothing. Still can't ping my router when it's connected via ethernet.
I don't have any antivirus software, disabled all firewalls and even did this check:
Services are Started:
COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Say there are 2 PC: Main and Client. Main is where all the data is located. These 2 PC is connected to a router. I notice whenever the "Client" goes to the Map drive of the "Main", there is a 2 sec. delay or so. The folder is located at Public under the Main PC. Is there a way to avoid it? Both PC are using Intel SSD. The router is linksys.

Needless to say, when the "Main" PC access its own data files at "Public", it's instant

Hello,

in a little more detail,

no always, but, sometimes when my computer boots up, and connects to virgin router, the IP address sometimes changes from 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.0.4 or 5 ...

think I read somewhere that this is something to do with a lease of the device's IP address or something, is their a way to make it, so that it has the same IP, everytime it connects to the router ...

but not just my pc, all other device's too,

many thanks in advance,

Stuart

P.S. could it also have something to do with IP filtering ? found this option on my virgin hub.

Answer:need same ip address when device connects to router, everytime.

You can manually set up static IP's by following the guide in the link. Just be sure and use your own gateway IP of 192.168.0.1 rather than the gateway showing which relates to a Belkin router.
How to Assign a Static IP Address in Windows 7, 8, XP, or Vista

I'm not sure of the settings on the Virgin router but if you can find a DHCP reservation setting it's easier to set up the static IP's from there for each device in your network.

Hi. I'm a newbie here, as I've been getting nowhere with Belkin.I have a simple wireless network at home - my PC is directly wired to my Belkin "ADSL modem with Wireless G router". It logs onto the Internet every time without fail.We have a second PC in another room, running XP. it has a Belkin USB wireless card. If the router has been running for more than a few minutes, this second PC will not log onto the wireless network. It picks up the network, with a good signal, but will not log on. It gets stuck at the "acquiring network address" stage and will not go any further. However, if the Belkin router is rebooted, the second PC logs on instantly. My wi-fi smartphone behaves exactly the same way as the second PC. I've tried restoring the factory defaults on the router, to no avail. I've also tried different channels on it, but again no improvement. I've got the built-in firewall turned on, and WPA-PSK (no server) security enabled. It's broadcasting in mixed mode with automatic transmission rate and g-Nitro enabled. SSID broadcast is enabled. Both PCs are running Norton Internet Security 2009.I'm thinking the problem lies with the router itself, and would welcome any suggestions of remeedies to try! Thanks in advance,Matthew

Hi all,

I have wireless internet at home through a Belkin router.

It used to work fine but one computer wouldnt connect. Stupidly, I tried checking the security password on my laptop and ever since it won't connect. (However, now the other computer does!)

It picks up the signal from the router but just won't connect. When I run ipconfig I get a message saying Media Disconnected. I've searched forums and can't find an answer to this.

The laptop still connects to the wireless internet in my office so the wireless capability obviously still works. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks so much!

Miles

ACER laptop comes up as nothing found. When I fired up my HP laptop to look for network addresses and such the Acer could see my computer and map the router and printer through my laptop. Again this problem just occured recently. at one point it say a piece of equipment with a screwed up name which was the printer but it would not print to it. It showed a question mark for the router?? again. It connects to he internet. Any ideas?? I have checked out books from the local library but can't figure out what to look for... Hi

I hope you can help me. As the title says, my PC connects to my ADSL router fine but my laptop can't see it?

I can ping it from the PC but get no response from pinging its IP on the laptop.

Both are set to use DHCP.

The PC is running XP, the laptop Vista.

I've tried turning off the laptop's firewall, restarting everything, checking connections. Nothing helps. And I have connected the laptop to my work's network while there so I know the network card is OK.

I have been using the same ethernet cable to connect - simply taking the ethernet cable out of the PC's network card and putting it into the laptop's. One connects, the other doesn't.

I'm completely stumped. Any ideas what I should try next?

Cheers

Fergus

I saw a thread from early 2010 which described the issue I am currently having to a T. I am on a Belkin Wireless G with Mimo router and it runs perfectly either on LAN or WLAN, until my new roommate's MacBook gets on there at the same time. As soon as the MAC connects, I get a blue screen of death and the PC restarts. I have been battling this issue for over a week now and have absolutely narrowed it down to the Mac/wireless area.

I have already uninstalled/reinstalled my wireless drivers and thought that had fixed the issue(it worked fine for 4 days), until the roommate returned from out of town and connected the Mac to the Wireless....then WAMMO, like clockwork, back came the BSoD. This seems like a very unique problem, as I have done many searches online and the one I mentioned on here is the only one I could find that accurately described my issue.

For reference, I have posted the link to the previous case below. Unfortunately, no solutions, other than reinstall drivers (which I have already done) are posted. Can anyone help? I tried everything in that thread and my settings appear to all be the same as his. Is it possible this is just some rare Windows 7 glitch that has never been resolved????

Thanks in advance!

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Someone please help me! I have had a wireless connection on my PC for ages now. I have..- a BT Home Hub- 1 computer connecting to the internet using an ehternet connection-1 computer (trying) to connect using a D-Link router. To be exact it's called a DWL-G122 802.11g wireless adaptor. Anyway, the problem is I've had this connection for about 6 months without ever having one problem connecting to the internet. About 3 weeks ago when the storms were pretty rough we lost all internet connections for a few hours. After this had happened all hell broke loose with my computer and now it's a tiresome battle trying to connect it to the internet now. The computer using ethernet is connecting fine so I know it's to do with my wireless and not the actual connection. When I switch my computer on this is the process:1)The D-Link Logo (It's a big D shape) flashes green and pretends it's connecting2)Windows tries to connect (that tv screen icon comes up) and flashes and says 'trying to acquire network address' and sometimes says other things like "no connection".3) I can sometimes manually connect it to the internet myself using Windows and selecting the network connection then ticking the "let windows connect using wireless" option. Sometimes when I check this option it lets me connect, but sometimes it doesn't come up as an option and sometimes when I connect it like this it just does nothing! I really have no idea what is going on it's really starting to stress me out as sometimes it ta... Read more

My dad's recently set up a WEP-encrypted wireless system for the home, and according to him we managed to use 2 gig of the download limit in one day. He claims that it could be someone outside who's managed to crack the WEP password and is now leeching off our crappy wireless. I'm trying to find out if there is a "super hacker that managed to crack the password in 3 seconds" leeching off the wireless.

He's using a D-Link DSL-G624T wireless router-modem. Is there a way to get it to inform the host computer when someone connects to the wireless system (with a pop-up balloon or something)? Trying to change the WEP to WPA doesn't work for some reason, as the router won't take to it.

Answer:Possible to get a D-Link router to inform me when someone connects to the wireless?

I've inherited an Acer TravelMate C301CXi from a friend. I did a clean installation of Windows XP Tablet Edition on a new hard drive installed in the Acer, and everything seems to be working fine, except I cannot connect wirelessly to the main router in the house. The wireless adapter on the Acer is an Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter. My wireless network setup is as follows: AirLink 101 Super G Wireless Router is the main router in the house. I also have a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N router with DHCP disabled, connected as an Access Point. The Acer connects wirelessly to the D-Link AP without any trouble, and through ethernet cable to both devices, but it will not connect wirelessly to the AirLink router. I have never had trouble connecting any wireless devices to either router in the past. Hopefully, someone can help me, as I cannot use this laptop in certain areas of the house.

Things that I have tried include: updating the driver on the Intel Wireless Adapter; establishing a static IP address for the Acer laptop; rebooting the AirLink router (numerous times); releasing and renewing the IP address on the Acer laptop numerous times, and I've even tried disconnecting the D-Link AP from the network in hopes that the Acer would connect to the AirLink router if the D-Link wasn't available. None of these resulted in a wireless connection to the AirLink router. I've also checked all of the network settings and services on the Acer and saw nothing... Read more

I received my T570 Thinkpad laptop a couple of months ago and have had no problems connecting it to my home router. Yesterday, however, it stopped connecting to our home WiFi. It recognizes the WiFi network but it asks me to put our Security key/password in. I've entered it correctly but it then says "Can't connect to this network". All other computers, phones, etc. aren't experiencing problems connecting, and when the laptop is plugged in directly to the Ethernet cable it works fine. Today I took my laptop to a friend's place and was able to connect to their wireless network. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be very much appreciated - thank you!

Hey guys,

This is my first time posting, so please forgive me if I am not descriptive enough!

What I am dealing with: Netgear router, Netgear wireless 108 card. Directly connected computer and wireless computer use Windows XP.
I have a Netgear WPN824V2 router that I am trying to set up. I was able to set up a SSID and password and even connect to the SSID...but for some reason, my wireless computer would send packets, but not receive any!

I tried messing around with settings like setting my DNS and IP address to be detected automatically for both the computer that's connected directly to the router and the computer that's wirelessly receiving an internet connection. I even did stuff like ipconfig/reset and ipconfig/renew. Nothing happened. On all those times, the connection registered as "EXCELLENT," but I couldn't load any webpages! Even moved the wireless card to another PCI slot to see if it was busted. Also uploaded newest firmware into the router from Netgear website. No luck there either!

The funny part is that I previously bought another Netgear router, and tried setting it up. Had the same problem. Packets being sent, but none being received.

Back at my old apartment a year ago, the connection ran flawlessly with my older linksys router and the same wireless card. But at that time, I got help from Netgear customer assistance, and I was running off of Roadrunner Cable at that time. This time, I am using SBC DSL.

Please help ... Read more

Answer:Connecting to Router - Won't receive packets, but connects to SSID!!

OK. One step at a time.

First. Don't even bother with wireless if the wired connection doesn't work. You have obviously made a mistake somewhere and there's no point in adding another layer of complexity.

Does your wired computer receive an IP address from the router and can you access the router setup page from there? If yes, then you messed up something in the router WAN setup.

Did you put in the DSL username and password correctly? Maybe your ISP requires some special settings? It would be a good idea to give them a call and ask.

Once you have the wired computer up and running with internet access and all, move on to wireless.

Set up the wifi with no password at first and make sure it works. Only then turn on WEP encryption. If the WEP works OK, switch to WPA. If that works OK, switch to WPA2.

My family computer and personal computer had been able to both access the internet for about two years while I was connected to SBC global, but when I changed my ISP to Earthlink about a month back, only the family computer continues to connect. I did not change any of the hardware settings from the time i discontinued SBC and started Earthlink.

Now, I tried to tinker around with the IP config, and my router setup (trying to follow sites such as this) and I'm getting nowhere. I tried to reconnect and disconnect the plugs, I restarted computers, I tried to make bridges, connections, one thing i might mention is when I am running command on my personal comptuer and type ipconfig/renew It gives me an error.

I realize I may have left out information, I am not completely clear as to what I need to put, but if you direct me on the information to give, i will be able to retrive it. Help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Answer:Having a router problem since I changed ISPs, Only one comptuer connects now.

What router do you have?

It sounds like you don't have a DHCP server running and you might be just using the router as a switch.

If you do an ipconfig on the working computer, is the address something like 10.0.x.x or 192.168.x.x? Or is it something else?

I lost connection to the Internet on my desktop yesterday, upon trying to reconnect I received a page asking me for the PIN to my router, at first I entered what I believed to be the correct PIN after which I realized it accepts any 4 digit PIN I enter. It then asks me to assign a name and security options followed by a page informing me it could not configure the router. My laptop has remained connected to the Internet without issue.

For 2 years I have managed my wireless Peak router from XP Home. I have just purchased a Tosh sat pro L300-11d, dual core 2Gb mem etc running Vista home premium.

When I try to connect from IE7 under Vista, the router resets and terminates all connections. It does eventually connect to the roter login screen if I leave it long enough.

I was hoping the new machine would replace my XP but it is looking increasingl like XP is staying untill 2014!

I'm having an issue connecting to my wireless router. I can connect fine with security disabled, but it doesn't connect if I enable WPA. It says there's a "timeout" issue when I try to connect with WPA enabled.

No one else is having issues connecting with their laptops and smartphones, so it must be a problem with my computer.

I've got a WMP54GS wireless NIC and a WRT54GS router. I installed the card and connected and found that I was unable to connect at speeds faster than 11.0Mbps. I thought maybe there was a problem with the operating system since I had been doing a TON of tweaking over the past few months before installing the card so I installed a fresh Os today only to find that again I can't get a full speed connection to my network. It might connect at 54.0 or maybe 36.0 but within SECONDS it drops to 11.0 which is completely KILLING my network.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem and how to fix it?

Answer:Linksys router/WNIC never connects at full speed 11.0Mbps only...

Is the problem signal strength or wireless interference?

If your signal strength is too low, then you need to try placing the WRT54GS somewhere else, or buy a new antenna for the router or your adapter. If signal strength looks good, and you still can't achieve higher speeds, then the cause is probably interference.

Did you eliminate the following?
2.4GHz cordless phones;
2.4GHz wireless video / monitoring systems;
Bluetooth (2.4GHz) keyboards and mice;
Flourescent lamps near your routers / nic.
That's the first step to eliminate interference with your 802.11g network. Of course, if you live in an apartment or condo, you're still subject to the interference caused by your neighbors.

With most drivers, Windows XP will report 54Mbps anytime that you connect with 802.11g. However, that has nothing to do with the actual sync rate.

Wireless sync with 2.4Ghz wireless video system on

The x.x.x.112 system is the Playstation3 in my living room. The x.x.x.102 is a PC in an office downstairs. That particular office has a lot of RF interference when certain equipment is on. I turned that equipment on for the above screenshot, and XP showed 54Mbps with signal strength of 4 bars. But look at the actual sync speed, as reported by the D-Link router. The wireless errors reported on the D-Link's status page increment regularly.

The below screenshot is with that equipment turned off. The signal strength is similar, and Windows reports the same 54Mbps, but th... Read more

Today had to to conduct a bit of a messy reinstall of windows (changed cpu fan and windows wouldn't start properly so had to format and reinstall) and now my wireless adapter won't connect to my network. I should say I can actually connect to the internet through my TP-link wireless network card attached to my motherboard, however, last week I purchased a TP-Link TL-WN722N usb adapter because the signal was too weak on the network card. Before the reinstall it worked perfectly, giving me 4/5 bars of signal strength consistently with no drops. I've tried reinstalling and repairing the drivers but it has had no effect. I still suspect it is some weird driver conflict for some reason as I was having conflict issues with programs earlier in the day although they were all eventually resolved.

Hi, I have IE version6.0. Running in a dell 1.3 ghz. I use No-Charge free Internet. IE use to open up automatically when my dialer connected to the Internet. I messed with the settings and changed it so I have to double click IE on the desktop when I have connected. How do I change it back so IE automatically opens? Thanks...Dan

I'm not sure if this looks the same in IE6, but in Internet Options > Connection > Settings, is the Dialup Networking connection you are using the one selected there? When you launch IE, the dialup adapter should run.

Okay I just got a new laptop, running Windows vista, Business Downgrade sp2. for college about a week ago. It was working fine. It came with Dell Connect program that organized connections and worked along side windows connections.

After about a day, I was surfing the internet and I realized that Firefox and IE would just stop connecting to any website at all and would end up timing out. So then I decided to delete Dell Connect via Add/Remove Prog. and it seemed to work for the time being. everything was peachy through Windows Connections.

Then it happened again. I looked into my windows connections and realized that although I was connected to my network but the Internet Connections symbol was gone and there was no Internet Gateway area. I found that disabling and re-enabling the network connection worked but I'm still trying to find a way or a reason why the internet decides to leave.

I'm setting up a wireless network for about 7 to 8 computers.

I got in on what seems to be a great deal at Frys / outpost.com today.

In store they had:

these 802.11 G pci cards (normally 44.95 on sale for 15.99) I Bought 8.

and

this 802.11G router - an Airlink AR410W 108Mbps. I bought 1.

doh?

I'm kind of new to this wireless networking thing. I suppose that particular router supports a maximum of 4 clients.

What I'm wondering though is will it be possible to chain another router to the first one so that all clients will be on the same network? It's just 1 small room, so I wouldn't mind linking the routers together with Cat5 if that is possible.

Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

It supports 4 wired clients. You can use all the PCs on wireless with that one device if you chose.
