Internet Explorer and Chrome not working after malware removal - please help!

Question: Internet Explorer and Chrome not working after malware removal - please help!

Hi
I have a Windows 7 64bit home laptop, it was infected with Malware. I installed MSE and it removed the malware but now can't browse the Internet, I've tried chrome and IE. I have tried to install malwarebytes but get a runtime error. I contacted their support and was asked to run FRST and send them the two log files which I did but not heard back yet. If anyone has any suggestions it would be really appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have been using Google Chrome for many months without a problem. However, last night I was somehow infected by malware. A fake anti-virus program appeared in my system tray and I could not kill it or any other processes. It prevented me from running MalwareBytes or getting to the Task Manager. I restarted my computer in safe mode and ran MalwareBytes and it removed 7 things. However, since then, I have not been able to use Google Chrome or Internet Explorer; I am currently only using Firefox because that is the only browser that works. I did some searching online and found that other people have had this problem after removing malware from their computers as well.I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me figure out what is wrong with my computer.I am running Windows Vista (64-bit) SP 2.As stated in the Preparation Guide, here is the log produced by DDS. Also, I ran GMER, and I attached the file that I saved from it. However, a bunch of the options were grayed out, so I wasn't sure what else to do. I will await further instruction and rerun GMER if need be.Thank you so much!DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSX64 Run by Ken at 13:18:11.29 on Sat 07/10/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18928 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_14Microsoft? Answer:Internet explorer is not connecting to the internet after malware removal

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a differe... Read more

I had several malware infection on my machine, and a HJT Senior classman helped me to remove them. Following disinfecting of the machine, my Internet Explorer (6) will not fire up. I found another IE application in a strange folder that I think the malware was using to access the internet. I have tried to uninstall the current IE, and then re=-install it, and I have tried to install IE7 and IE8 with no luck. Any guidance on how to get control of my IE would help.

Thx, Pat

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7 and Macafee security. Got infected with Thinkpoint malware. Followed all the instructions to download Malwarebytes to remove the virus. Seemed to work. A few days later, my internet explorer won't connect to my home's wireless router. My older laptop running XP connects just fine. Weird thing is, I can connect to my school e-mail account (Office Outlook web access) and my gradebook on our district's server, but nothing else connects (yahoo, google, ancestry, etc.)

Answer:Lost internet explorer after malware removal

Malware will sometimes change proxy settings that will prevent you from connecting to the internet. Have a look at that. You also may want to post in Am I Infected just to be sure that you are clean.

Internet Explorer stopped working first. The dialog box says Internet Explorer has stopped working- A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Chrome looks like it is going to start because of the symbol that pops up but after a second the symbol goes away and it just never opens. When I open firefox it works but I noticed it is starting to slow down. Do I have a virus?

Answer:Only firefox is working - no chrome or internet explorer

Virus may be too strong a word
Did you get all of the updates released yesterday and did they all install correctly?
Have you rebooted the system at least once since all of the updates were installed?
Is your security program current and have you run a scan?
How old is the system and can you give us some details - HDD size and free space, installed RAM?
Where were you just before you noticed the problems?
Keep us posted

i was on the computer today and this antivirus thing popped up, saying I had something. i freaked out and I'm still not quite sure if it was a virus telling me this or something real, because I have Ad Aware. So I ended the program that said that I had it.I then opened up Ad Aware and they told me they detected some things:CookiesWin32.Backdoor.Bredolab - MalwareWin32.FraudTook\..\irSolutionPro/A - ProcessWin32.Trojan.Scar - MalwareWin32.Worm.Pinit - WormEverything on this list besides cookies was listed as Quarantine. So I decided that I wanted to remove them. After that my primary internet explorer that I use, google chrome, stopped working. It is now saying "This webpage is not available. This is what I copy and pasted from it:This webpage is not available. The webpage at http://www.google.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. It said this: Internet Explorer cannot display the web page. "www.yahoo.com" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer. I have for the past week had a problem with Internet Explorer v11.0.9600.17496 and Google Chrome v40.0.2214.91 where they become unstable after running a scan with HitmanPro which reports a Riskware “C:\ProgramData\{564FBE8C-06CD-6F0A-B74B-1F8867C9CC06}\1.9.0.1\lato.dll” which I delete. I then have to reset both IE and Chrome for them to return to normal working again! When I try to load certain pages both browsers report Error 404 and in particular when I try to connect to Bleepingcomputer.com.
Windows seem to take longer to load and Network and sharing center takes a long time to open and connect to the internet.
A folder {564FBE8C-06CD-6F0A-B74B-1F8867C9CC06} reappears in C:/Programdata.
The problem seems to return after a couple of days.

Hello,First, I am grateful for anyone here who wishes to help me with my husband's computer. Everything was okay with the computer until this morning. He was using Avast for antivirus and he noticed that the main shield was off. He tried to turn it on according to their instructions but nothing would happen. We uninstalled Avast and tried to go online to reinstall. That was when we got "Internet Explorer cannot display webpage". I checked Add/Remove programs and didn't find anything that wasn't supposed to be there. I rebooted the computer and then I got a Runtime Error. It didn't show the full path for the error but it did state at the top that it was Microsoft Visual C++ Library. I don't know if they are related or not. However, I ran Malware Bytes and found "funmoods". It wasn't in my programs list so I was unaware of it. I deleted them per the instructions from Malware and deleted other folders and files associated with "Funmoods" through a search of the computer. I have done the Defogger. I have the ".txt" files from DDS and Rootkit Unhooker showed no threats. I have tried various other "ideas" through research, i.e. resetting to default internet options and trying IE without add ons. I am at a loss and could use some guidance. I did have some trouble with trying to reset the IP at the command prompt. The computer only has one user and is set as Admin. Also, everytime I go to mscof... Read more

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition and have Avast Antivirus on it. Initally, the computer became infected with XP Antivirus 2010, which I tried to remove with
Malwarebyte but was unable to properly install Malwarebyte. Thus, I did a system restore and was able to properly download Malwarebyte and remove the infected files (ran numerous full scans with both Avast and Malwarebytes). After this, i had a problem with exe file associations (nothing would open) and was able to fix this with exefix.reg.

Now, everything is running properly on my computer except for Internet Explorer. My computer is able to connect to the internet (Avast is running and I'm able to download Windows updates), but when I launch Internet Explorer it opens for a second (quick flash) and then immediately closes. I've tried to reset the internet settings and uncheck the "enable third-party browser extensions" box, but none of this worked. I had recently updated to IE8 (one of the windows updates after the system restore), so I tried to uninstall IE8 but I had the same problems with IE7. I then tried reinstalling IE8 but it was no help. Please let me know if there is a solution for my problem.

Thanks in advance for your help - mckli

Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox are not working in Windows 8

Answer:Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox are not working in Windows 8

I found this on another forum and it worked for me.
This problem usually has to do with TCP/IP or Winsock requiring a reset.

Winsock entries tells Windows 7 how to access your network services. Additionally, your TCP/IP protocol can
be corrupted. The TCP/IP protocol is a stack of 4 layers that includes several transport layers, but when this stack is corrupt you will constantly have connectivity issues.
You need Admin access to enter the codes below. Windows button + x, then choose Command Prompt (Admin)
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)
You may have to reinstall Chrome and Firefox or reboot to have the chnage take place.

No luck.

I'm running IE8 (and no thats not the problem, installed long ago), Windows XP SP3.

Hi all, let me first introduce myself. My name is Andrew.

Here is my current situation: The other day while on my computer, I started receiving messages I've never received before. I kept receiving popups on my desktop saying that threats had been detected and then proceeded to perform a fake system scan. The "dialog box" said something like 'PC AntiSpyware 2010'. I also had the little red circle with the white X in my system tray. Anytime you'd mouse over it, a warning balloon would pop up.

After doing a little research around these forums, I decided the best bet would be to download, update and run MalwareBytes' remover tool. I did a scan, checked all the objects that came up (all 44 of them! OUCH!) and had the program delete them. I then restarted my PC and voila! No sign of the malware at all. Awesome.

Except now my internet doesn't work. Both my wireless adapter tray icon (D-Link DWL-G122) and my wireless network icon are shown as being connected and having excellent signal strength. I even did a ping of google.com using the CMD prompt and it showed no errors in either direction! Weird. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with my network either, as every other computer connected to this network also connects to the internet with no problems at all.

So my question is wtf is going on here!? lol

I'm running out of ideas and would really like to get this resolved ASAP. Any help/advice at all will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks... Read more

Hi, for a few weeks now YouTube hasn't worked in any of the three browsers I've mentioned in the topic title. I've made the topic in this section as the problem isn't specific to one browser. I have absolutely no idea why it won't work, here's the message I receive when I try to access YouTube using Firefox:

Quote:

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at YouTube - Broadcast Yourself..

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I've looked through all my firewalls and anti-virus software and the website hasn't been blocked, it just won't load. Embedded videos just appear as a white box. I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help me as this is really starting to frustrate me now!

Answer:[SOLVED] YouTube not working in Firefox, Internet Explorer or Chrome

Hi, and welcome to TSF.

It sounds like a problem with flash player. Try uninstalling, Uninstall Flash Player | Windows and reinstall. Make sure to reboot after uninstalling AND installing.

If that doesn't work, uninstall again and try reverting back to an older version.

Hope this helps.

It also obviuosly took over my home page (which was BBC.co.uk) Also toolbar was added.None of which I seen the option to untick which would be usual. So I deleted icons and went into control panel to add and remove and uninstalled only the 7-zip.It was fatal. All my icons such as Internet explorer, firefox, Google Chrome just to name a few would not work, so I cannot get online to try to correct problems. I am using my laptop at this time. However that was NOT the end of it. On my desktop MY COMPUTER yellow folder was gone and replaced with an icon that had no name and very plain. There was 3 folder like that. When 2 never opened I deleted them and moved on. I came back later and clicked the 3rd one and to my surprise it my computer folder, plain with no name.I went to control panel to restore and that had been change no option to choose any restore at all. Finally 3 times I went to control panel to internet options to restore my bbc home page which I did but each time I started my computer it was replac... Read more

Where did you go to download the Zip file containing Apache 3.4.1 open office? If I go to http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html and start a download, I see I would be downloading a .exe file, not a Zipped file. So, where did you go to download? The problems you encountered after you downloaded and opened it seem to indicate a malware infestation. Perhaps you should post in the Viruses and Spyware part of the forum.

Hi,

My Windows Vista PC got the Security Shield virus and I followed the steps on the Malware Removal Guide from this page: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-security-shield, but my Internet Explorer will not work now. It keeps saying that the program has failed and windows tries to solve the problem but failes to do so.

I also had my IT Manager look at it and he did some things to it before I tried to remove the virus myself.

I tried un-installing IE 9 and using IE 8 but the same problem persists. I did a "sfc /scannow" in the cmd, and it found corrupt files and repaired the items that it found, but still IE will not open.

I do not have another web browser installed on this PC.

Please help!

I searched through the forum and I find that my problem appears to be very unusual. My Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer browsers are not working properly and this issue has prevented my computer from shutting down or restarting properly. This
problem started when one day, I was unable to open up Google Chrome (which is a browser I commonly use) to go online. Google Chrome refused to launch open. When I finally got it to open, it was a blank screen that would not show my frequently visited websites
as it normally would but would only show my bookmarks bar. When I tried to enter a website, like google.com, it refused to load and responded like I had not entered any website at all.
In a panic, I tried internet explorer, which also refused to launch. Then, I decided to shut down my computer but it refused to shut down. The screen would say "Shutting Down" and would go black but, after waiting over 5 minutes, I decided to force
shut down the computer. (This is very similar to the scenario that would happen when I would restart my computer). Once I turn the computer back on, however, my browsers work normally.

After calling the manufacturer of my computer, they had to put my computer in safe mode and then they scanned it for viruses after deleting the temporary files on my desktop. Strangely enough, this fixed the problem and my browsers worked normally. However,
in less than a day, the problem would return. I know this is not a virus problem be... Read more

I hope I have posted this in the right forum - most of the topics I see here on the first page seem to have the "Moved" tag on them. Despite what the title and the first paragraph describing my problem may suggest on a quick skim, I don't believe this problem is currently being caused by malware nor removed with malware removal tools, but rather being a system problem in nature.

I recently cleaned a Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition machine of SystemFix, which was quickly followed by another malware program I don't remember, and after that by AV Protection 2011, using MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware. Since then, the computer shows in Network Connections that it has been connecting to our Linksys router, but no packets are being sent or received and there is no internet access available, and I can't even access the router administration page from the affected computer. The internet works without issue if I boot to Ubuntu Linux off of a CD/USB drive, so the problem should be with the Windows software. I've tried just about every possible solution I could possibly find on the internet, as well as a few I made up on the spot, which to my memory includes but is not limited to the following (all under an account with administrator rights, of course):

- scanned computer with MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, COMODO Antivirus, SuperAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware, ESET, IOBit Advanced SystemCare 5, Sophos Anti-Rootkit, and avast! aswMBR.exe
- attempted to run tdsskiller.e... Read more

A summary for the time-strapped can be found at the bottom of this post. If you have read my previous topic, the main new details are a more informative description of the unnamed malware and a brief mention of an attempt at a wired connection that I forgot earlier.

I have reposted this from the XP forums at the request of a team manager, though I feel it belongs there rather than here. Despite what the title and the first paragraph describing my problem may suggest on a quick skim, I don't believe this problem is currently being caused by malware nor removed with malware removal tools, but rather being a system problem in nature. Even so, I suppose that won't be so much of an issue if my helper is experienced in both subjects.

I recently cleaned a Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition machine of SystemFix, which was quickly followed by another malware program I don't know the name of (it redirected search result links, and opened Mevio alerts and hidden iexplore.exe processes randomly with sporadic spurts of random audio in a manner similar to that described in this topic), and after that by AV Protection 2011, using MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware and possibly other automated removal tools which I can look up if that would be helpful. Since then, the computer shows in Network Connections that it has been connecting to our Linksys router, but no packets are being sent or received and there is no internet access available, and I can't even access the router administration pag... Hello and I guarantee the problem is still malware related.

What I need from you, is a proper set of logs so I can see the current state of the machine. I'll have to ask you to please stop doing any other self fixing while we're working together, or you'll make my job that much more difficult.

Please follow the instructions in our pre-posting topic New Instructions - Read This Before Posting for Malware Removal Help and post the requested logs in your next reply.

I have been reading the post and the fixes of others that are having the same problems that I am having. I downloaded and performed a scan with SuperAntiSpyware and it quarantined numerous files. I know that as soon as I access Internet Explorer again it will just all be re-loaded on my computer.

I have the same "Security Tool Bar 7.1" issue that others have been discussing along with the same triangle(!) in my system tray that keeps telling me that I have trojans on my puter.

I need help.....nothing seems to work when removing this from my computer.

My computer is running really slow, so I have been following the thread pinned in here to try and clean it up. I ran an anti-malware program and now Internet Explorer won't work. I am getting this message

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I assumed that I deleted something important when I deleted the things the program found, so I tried reinstalling IE, but I am still getting the same error message. How do I fix this?

Hi,I was recently infected with the Windows Repair bug and fixed (maybe its still there) it via one of the posts on the sites. So I'm thinking I might have had a couple of other infections that were dormant for a while or Malwarebytes or Symantec never noticed. After fixing that, I noticed Google Chrome stopped working. When I started googling in Firefox and IE i noticed the page would redirect. And then an the "Internet Explorer Script Error" with the URL pointing to apparent spam urls "http;//celebrity-gossip.net/ashley-tisdale..." as an example. So I updated and ran Malwarebytes AM, Symantec & Microsoft Defender to see what they would. Symantec found an bloodhound virus in an archived drive. And i cleaned whatever Malwarebytes found, forgot now since its been a 4 days.I've tried the TDDSkiller.exe and that wouldnt launch. I tried renaming it too, but nothing.I found another thread and tried cleaning with SuperAntiSpyware and Hitman.I don't remember the correct order I've ran these, but followed according to the threads, including safed mode, internet off, etc...Anyways, any help is appreciated. here is the log:.DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Mikael at 21:35:05.37 on Thu 04/07/2011Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_24Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.2047.902 [GMT -7:00].AV: Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition *Enabled/Updated* {FB06448E-52B8-493A-90F3-E43226D3305C}.===========... Hi, I am putting this in the Internet Explorer forum because it directly relates to IE, however I am using Vista and this may be a Vista problem for all I know.

Anyway...

Whenever I am on my laptop, sometimes I get a pop up telling me Internet Explorer has stopped working. But I don't even use IE!!

One solution I found was to disable IE (I read I cannot uninstall IE on Vista for some reason) yet this has not worked. (By disable I mean go onto Set Program Access and Computer Defaults, then custom, then uncheck 'enable access to IE').

Another "solution" was to repair Microsoft Office (by add/remove programs, then change/repair). This has also not worked.

Does anyone have any input on what can be done? If they only solution is "upgrade to Windows 7", I am putting that off until the summer when my studies are completed, I just don't want 6 months of "Internet Explorer has stopped working" pop ups.

Many thank yous.

Answer:"Internet Explorer has stopped working"... But I'm using Chrome!!

Make sure you've installed all Windows Updates. Uninstall IE9 (Start>Programs & Features>View Installed Updates>Right click IE9>Uninstall). After this finishes you still have IE8. If the problem isn't occurring, you could reinstall IE9.

Hello. First, Google Chrome stopped working and shut down. wouldn't open or immediately crashed. then lost IE as well, unless I backed in from a cached page. Avast virus scan revealed Dropper gen Trojan and supposedly quarantined, but the problems persisted. I carefully followed all seven steps on this site to remove, using all the listed software/scans. I have IE back now, but it is often redirected, and Chrome still doesn't open or immediately crashes. Please help.

I am currently rerunning FRST in safe mode but it appears to be erroring with 'Getting Application errors: 20740'. Is there another tool you would prefer for me to run or should I let FRST continue?

Stopped FRST after 1.5 hours (still at same error). Including results from both (incomplete) scans.

Hi,I have tried many ways to get rid of some Malware that has only recently infected my PV. I hope someone can help me as this is my work PC and I need to plug back into my office network in a few days, but think this would be a bad idea at the moment. The problem first showed itself by insisting I had many viruses etc, and I should install Internet Security 2010. I have installed Malware Bytes removal tool, and installed as instructed. It found the above, said it was removed, but still it appears to exist, although the name of the infection has changed a few times, and is currently redirecting my brower to a similar page to the above malware. A popup now shows that I should install Cyber Security to remove the infections. This is obviously another malicious antivirus/malware program.I have McAfee Enterprise installed (which I can't seem to disable)I have also run SuperAntiSpywarePlus, which did the trick removing a similar problem about a year ago on a different PC. However, although this program also finds problems, and supposedly removes t5hem, the problem is still there. Please help. Answer:Cyber Security removal; Malware removal not working

Hi,I have tried everything I know of to remove this pesky piece of malware. It seems to keep changing names, starting out as Internet Security 2010, and redirecting me on a google search to a webpage trying to convince I was riddled with viruii and malware, and then trying to sell me thier software, which is really just a scam. I ended up here after a few days of tearing my hair out, almost beaten. I went through the tutorials, but unfortunately that was before I fired off a post in desperation. Please delete my previous post, as I have now followed the suggested path, and run the utilities to help diagnose my problems. The resulting files are attached. Please help. UPDATE: This issue was resolved with Malwarebytes. Thank you.
Hello,

It appears that I have fake Google Chrome process malware on my computer. I do not recall installing any new software or Chrome updates, but this process is now there. I now have multiple running processes of executable files that appear to be fake Google Chrome Processes. adkshfjdkjd.exe *32 or something to this effect. Slowing computer, causing erratic buggy performance, etc., Norton Internet Security icon appeared twice in system try before deleting process and disabling suspicious start up file.

I have downloaded and installed Farbar Recovery Tool, run the initial scans and attached files. Any help with removing this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Cameron

Hi, I'm suddenly having a lot of trouble with malware. My computer seemed to be running okay but I ran Malwarebytes as I occasionally do, and it picked up a fair amount of malware on my system. I deleted it and rebooted, but that's when my problems really began. Upon restarting, my internet connection has become almost unusable. It's extremely slow and generally I can't even open a page that I want after trying to refresh several times. Oddly though, google is working perfectly and a few other sites seem to work too, including this one. I've tried running MBAM again and again, each time it picks up more malware and I remove it, then reboot and the cycle renews. I can't seem to get rid of all of it, every time I scan my system there's just more of it. I've tried ComboFix but it doesn't seem to have done anything. One persistent thing seems to be photo_id.exe, I've got a few messages from MBAM saying it can't be removed and I need to reboot. Also, I've noticed that if I'm trying to reach a webpage, although it won't load there seems to be some redirecting, for example I just tried to reach a wikipedia page and it says "The server at topsearchfeed.com is taking too long to respond" For some reason I can't bloody format this properly no matter how hard I try, so here's an attached HJT log:

Last week my computer had a virus that I successfully removed using Malwarebytes. Since then I have been unable to access the internet using my default browser Google Chrome (instead I receive a 'This Webpage is not available.' message with the error: Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

Or with internet explorer where the following message is received: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Yet it works fine with Firefox. I then tried signing in via Windows Live Messenger where it failed and upon doing the connection troubleshooter received an exclamation mark next to the proxy and key ports sections.

Is there any way for me to fix it so that I can have normal internet access? One major problem right now is that I cannot even upload pictures via Photobucket or even e-mail where Google Chrome gives the message: Attachment failed. This may be due to a proxy or firewall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For MX Explorer, Google Chrome, Foxfire I would type in, for example "newegg" and search. I would click on the newegg from the search results and the browser would redirect to another site. These sites vary but all deal with shopping or video viewing like youtube. It does not redirect to porn or other questionable sites. It would take me three or four attempts to finally get to newegg. I decided to try Safari and thus far I have not had any problems. At that time I was running Norton with full protection. I performed full scans, Norton said my computer was clean. I then did research and determined that spydoctor from PC Tools may solve the problem. I scanned with spydoctor and it found adware, spyware, and trojans. They were removed.Problem still remained with MS Explorer, Foxfire and Google Chrome.I found Computer Hope and performed the steps laid out in Computer Hopes Malware Removal steps. Below are the logs, I separated them with a line of dashes. I have not attempted to use Explorer, Google or Foxfire until I get the adware removed. Thanks for the helpLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 5:20:28 PM, on 3/24/2011Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\... Answer:Malware on MS Explorer, Google Chrome, Foxfire but not Safari

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer. 1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. ****************************************************Download Security Check by screen317 from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.Link 1Link 2* Unzip SecurityCheck.zip and a f... Google chrome is a web browser that i have been using for a while with no problem, untill a couple days ago. I can open it, but then it loads a white screen. Even if i type a new URL, it will still just load a white screen.

I have tried:
-reinstallation
-full uninstall with revo uninstaller then installation
-scanning my computer for malware using MBAM(malwarebytes)
-virus scan
-having it open without anything running on my computer

All my other browsers work (IE, firefox) so its not a slow computer or loss of internet connection.

will upload last log after it is finished

Here is my LOG

My Sisters net book developed a fault within four days of setting up, in so far that access to the internet was not possible. Each time a site was typed in the error message could not open page would come up. I started the net book up in safe mode, by using MSCONFIG and changing the boot up with network but left all services etc running. Once booted I started the wifi connection and started IE11 and it loaded pages correctly. Reverting back to normal boot and the fault re-occurred.
I did notice however if I opened IE or Chrome before the net book had fully booted (started all back ground programs) I could access the internet for a short while before getting the unable to load page error.
Windows update and Netflix both work correctly.

Another problem with the laptop was the right click context menus. Some of them did not work and would make the laptop freeze for a short while. A thread on this site pointed to context handlers and in particular to one from Norton. Using the method quoted in the thread I was able to get the right click menus to open correctly.

I have always hated Norton and decided to remove it from my sisters net book. After removal and a re-start IE11 and Chrome now work correctly.

Prior to removing Norton I noticed that the context handler was built on the 26th of December 2014 and the fault on this net book started around the 29th.

Answer:Internet Explorer 11 and Chrome can not open internet page

Hey mate,

glad you got it working. Make sure you removed every trace on your computer by using the Norton removal tool: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/...rProfile_en_us
- otherwise it might conflict with future antivirus programs. The built in Windows Defender works okay, but it is not great at catching all malware. Unfortunately, some of the other free antivirus programs have interfered too much with the Windows system, including Avast!, Kaspersky, etc. I actively use Defender, and give a manual scan of Malwarebytes.org 's free malware-removal program to compliment it. You might consider giving it a try (it is not an antivirus program, just a malware removal kit).

Another great way of ensuring fewer malware get loaded onto the computer is to always make sure windows is updated with the latest.

Cheers

After uninstalling google chrome ,windows explorer was started
The keys were Cntrl C , Cntrl Z ...., the "1" and the "3" on the numeric keyboard
After uninstalling office 2007 the problem was solved
Does anyone has an idea why office 2007 caused the problem

Answer:Ctrl C starts internet chrome or internet explorer

Because, mate, it is office XP. Not office 2010.

The only thing that is wrong is when i click on My Computer in windows explorer or any dialogue box for that matter it is extremely slow. In between all other directories it moves quickly, but if I click My computer I have to wait atleast 30 seconds. Any help would be appreciated... This is windows xp home with current updates. One other problem I have noticed is when I goto System Information, I dont get any info. it says, "Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation Software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing. The Management service is running and I tried restarting it.

Answer:Having windows explorer issues after malware removal

Maybe it is some sort of external storage medium? Try unplugging flash drives, and maybe turning off the CD drive in BIOS. See where that takes you.

Hello MajorGeeks,
Yesterday my sister contracted some nasty malware by clicking on a fake link or what have you. I think it was AV Security Suite, or something along those lines. I immediately ran MSE and then Malwarebytes Anti Malware. This did not make a difference so I system restored to a few days earlier. I was still having problems so I system restored back to the most current restore point.

Problems at this time were:
Windows installer issues. Could not install or uninstall any programs
Drive access or windows explorer problems (when I click on my computer it searches forever and either takes a long time or the window freezes.)

I then went through the cleaning procedure for windows xp: I had to run SAS portable as I couldnt install anything and malwarebytes was already installed. Everything went as planned aside from the Java uninstalling/installing. After completing the procedure I was able to install again so I proceeded to complete the java step. I still however having the windows explorer issue. It searches forever and the pc gets real slow. it dosnt seem to happen until I goto My computer... and after that folders and files open quickly as usual. Odd problem but perhaps you all can help me out.. I will attach my logs.. Thank you very much

I had a piece of malware attack my computer called 'System Tool 2011' as soon as system tool starts the blue screen comes up and computer shuts down and restarts. I managed to delete system tool after it installed. This stopped my computer shutting down.
Google Chrome hasnt worked since, just wont load any page.

I checked all the proxy settings and they are all normal, as in there is no remote proxy being used.
I ran a scan with malwarebytes and removed everything it picked up - chrome still didnt work

I did a system restore - chrome still didnt work

I unistalled chrome and downloaded the latest and installed - chrome still didnt work
At some point while I was doing this 'System Tool 2011' returned and the blue screen happened again. I restarted in safe mode and deleted the program from the file location (which is what I did before)
I did a system restore to an even earlier point - chrome still didnt work

I am really lost here, I have spent hours on forums and trying things and am getting nowhere. Please save chrome for me!

I am running W7, AVG

This is an interesting article because it ecplains why the IE9 64bit is a lot slower than the IE9 32bit.

Quote:
But, then I ran 32-bit IE 9 on my 64-bit Windows 7. Wow. Now, IE 9 came in at 245.4ms. This was actually faster than Chrome 10, which came in at 266.7ms. So, for the moment at least IE9 is actually the fastest browser I?ve tested to date.

Answer:Chrome 10 vs. Internet Explorer 9

Doesn't really concern me, until it becomes unusable to me, I'm pretty much sticking with firefox, I have too many plugins and add-ons and settings saved just the way I like them. While it's no doubt slower loading than another browser would be. I'm quite sure by the time I loaded it up with all the extras I wanted it too would have significantly slower loads.

Thanks for all your help

Answer:USB port not working after malware removal

Hi

I would say your are best to follow what Chaslang posted HERE and attach the logs in that thread of yours in malware forum as while you may look ok and malware free, their maybe some malware files causing this.

We may be able to reinstall the driver but that may not change anything, unless all malware is removed first.

The info we would need to get the correct driver is in below steps, but TBH, do make sure you are fully clean from malware first.

If your PC is one from the likes of DELL, HP, Sony, etc what is the Make and model varient as this will assist us if we need drivers?

If your PC is a home or custom build what is the motherboard make and version?

Download and install Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post [/URLClick to expand...

1) Random new browser windows opening with hoax antivirus pop-ups asking for download
2) Firefox crashing everytime it is launched. Crash report submittal is failing.

3)Unable to connect to Internet through wired LAN. It shows connected status but no sites open.

4) Sometimes my McAfee Antivirus is closing down abrutly throwing warning that it has been closed although the system guard icon of McAfee is still active.

Thanks!
Ron

Answer:Need help to get started with malware removal-DDS.scr not working

Hi
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized, if not you'll find it in c:\rsit folder)

I have worked on a couple of machine lately that have had rootkits (.zeroaccess) and after removal devices would not work. I tried the easy stuff like uninstalling/reinstalling devices, replaceing driver files, reinstalling inf files for the devices, SFC, and repair installs but the devices do not work correctly again. On one machine it is the CDROM, on another the mouse and keyboard. The mouse/keyboard with work ater a removal and reinstall but stop working after a reboot. A wipe and reinstall will do the trick but I sure would like a better answer. Has anyone else run into this or found an answer?

Hello,

For the past month or so I've been having issues. IE9 works fine but firefox always freezes, chrome will only work with the 'no sandbox' trick, and malwarebytes crashes the computer (although it works fine in safe mode). Also, new windows updates will download but cannot install correctly. Any help would be much appreciated.

I read many articles explaining to me how chrome is so much faster than ie8....Claims of up to eight times faster and everything.

However, after installing chrome...nothing impressive. Everything runs at the same speed. Curious, I installed firefox, opera, safari and they all seem to run at the same speed...In fact, ie8 seemed to run faster at some pages.

Are the claims of chrome being so fast or ie being so slow overrated? (I have also tried the ie9 preview and liked it, though I cannot feel any speed difference...)

Answer:Internet explorer 8 versus chrome

Speed is dependent on a lot of factors, eg. the speed of your system, the speed of your internet connection, the complexity and graphic intensity of a website, browser addons, etc. Those ratings you read are taken in labs with everything optimum and have little in common with the every day machines and conditions. Read those as potential speeds under the ideal circumstances.

As for real world, I can definitely see and measure a difference in IE8 vs Firefox. I cannot tell much difference at all in FF vs. Chrome vs. Opera. The initial loading of FF is slow; but after that, I don't see much difference in page rendering speeds.

I have been having trouble with internet explorer 11 - keeps having me update Adobe Flash Player and I have the latest version, when I do... nothing changes it still wants me to update. Then Google Chrome crashed - I took pictures of the screen with my phone while that happened. It almost always comes up a box at the bottom that has show content in it. Do I have malware or spyware or adware or what?!
Thanks in advance for your patience!

Answer:Internet Explorer & Google Chrome

FWIW: IE has nothing to do with Adobe Flash Player...if you are getting messages onscreen to update, they probably originate from the websites you are visiting.

What do you mean when you say "Google Chrome crashed"? Did it halt the system...did you get an error message of some sort...exactly what prompts that statement?

I am running a Gateway computer that is running Vista Home Premium, 32-bit. I am taking a class the requires me to access the Cisco Net Academy online (cisco.netacad.net)and until a month ago I was able to access it using Internet Explorer 9. Then following the latest upgrade to Flash Player I could no longer access it. To solve the problem, I restored my computer so I was using the previous version of Flash. This worked great until a week later when Windows updated automatically. Since then I have not been able to access the website. I have tried uninstalling Flash, emptying caches and making sure flash was completely removed, then reinstalling it, uninstalling IE9, changing settings on IE9, adding the Cisco website to the trusted list, I have asked my instructor for assistance (his solution was to download another browser or send Cisco an email asking for assistance), asking the website for help (they told me to ask my instructor for assistance)and I asked on another forum, but so far nothing I have tried has made any difference. An interesting aside is that the site has a flash movie on the log-in page that plays when I first get to the site, but then after logging in I'm told flash isn't installed.
Hopefully, someone here will be able to help me.
I finally broke down and downloaded Google Chrome (someone told me that the Cisco website runs great with Chrome) and while I am able to access the site when using Google, another problem showed up. There is a skills bas... Read more

As of about an hour ago i started getting popups about running/downloading spyware from different sites as well as several from nightlife.com or some variation. The other thing im getting is a message saying explorer.exe had an error and needs to close. The keyboard responsiveness is also slowed... im thinking a trojan

i ran spybot search and destroy with tea timer and have denied two registry changes, as well as adaware 2007, neither finding anything specific. After a full scan with AVG Free it came back with no viruses but "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" as changed.

im running win xp on a HP and i generally use IE 7.

Hello, this is my first post to this forum as I have usually had good luck with removing most malware on my own. This one has me stumped, however, so I would appreciate any help I can get. Up front, I will say I am experienced with computers (or at least the software side of things) though I'm certainly no expert. Here is some key information:OS: XP Pro, Service Pack 3Anti-Virus: AVG (newest software version as far as I can remember)Anti-Malware Programs: Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition Spybot S&D (With TeaTimer, though I already read on your list of info to disable it for now)*I am aware that you recommend two other programs (SuperSpyware and some other). I am willing to switch to those if recommended, but for now I do not have the option to as you will see. Here is my problem. I got one of those annoying popup programs that pretends to be anti-virus claiming I had lots of infections and to buy their software. I knew I had at least one infection, namely that program popup. I ran Ad-aware immediately, it found 2 Trojan items, which I selected to remove. It informed me that to finish the removal process I needed to reboot. I did so, immediately. Upon startup, the normal XP login splash screen with user icons was replaced by a simple login box (with my username already filled in to the top box, with a blan... Hello, I've just about given up trying to fix this and am ready to reinstall the OS, but maybe someone here knows what's wrong and how to fix it. The computer was upgraded to Windows 10 and had some minor malware that was removed. After the clean up the printer no longer works (I'm not sure if it was working before the clean up since it wasn't tested). The computer has no other problems or errors in the event log.

The printer is an HP OfficeJet 8500 A909g. The OS is Win 10 x64.

Symptoms:

-The printer is detected in devices and printers
-The scanner actually works
-It will print an internal test page of some kind from the HP Solution Center, but not the Windows test page or anything else.
-The same problems happen with both network and USB installs
-When printing a text document it says "The handle is invalid." with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark.
-When printing a Word Document it says "We couldn't print because there doesn't seem to be a printer installed :-(" with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark and a "show help >>" button.
-Opening the printer properties from devices and printers gives the following error with a red X before the properties windows opens: "C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE Function address 0x3f416fda caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed."

Attempted repairs so far:

Hello,

Sorry for the length of this post, but I try to describe in detail what I've done. I have used the instructions in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide".

The reason I have done this is, because Avast On access scanner periodically alerted me to trojans in the temporary internet folder for the past two weeks. I instruct Avast to delete these files but the messages always come back a short while later. Two days ago it started alerting me of blocking access to a malicious site (the url for this site is garbled and ends in .cn). This message would pop up every 5 to 10 seconds. So I attempted to remove the malware on the pc with the help of the instructions of this forum yesterday night.

I am not sure where the trojan/malware originated from, as I am not the only user of this computer (my parents also use it). Around the time that the problems started, I visited a reputable (or so I thought) job site (engineeringcareers.co.za) - upon visiting Avast alerted me to a trojan attempting to download and gave me the option to block the connection to the site, so I did so.

Now, on to how I followed the instructions in your guide and the problems that I encountered:

I followed all the instructions to the letter, up to and including the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Super antispyware had to be renamed to SAS.exe to run, as the explorer window crashed if I tried to run it normally. After MBAB finished, I could not connect to the interne... Read more

Hello again,

Here are the combofix and rootrepeal logs I intended to post. I wanted to post them directly after my earlier post, but real life interfered in the time between posting and my post showing up in the forum. This will probably be seen as a bump, but oh well - so far it looks like my problems are sorted out, so far Avast has not given me any more alerts to trojans/rootkits.

Thanks again,

Z.

Tried installing Malwarebytes...installed, but unable to open through play store. I tried hooking it up to a pc with Malwarebytes, but the program won't let me scan the phone.

I need ideas. Please help.

Hey

So my hp tablet (windows xp) was infected with fake virus alerts which would not allow me to connect to the internet.

The malware has been removed, but I still cannot connect to wireless at any location (others can). Wired ethernet works. Right now my laptop is connected to a wireless router via an ethernet cable.

I can "see" wireless networks. When I try to connect, I am told I am connected, but I can't do anything and become disconnected in about 5 seconds. The connection continues to "connect" and "disconnect" every 5-10 seconds, although I still can't use the internet either way.
When I "repair" connection, I am told the ip address cannot be renewed. I have renewed the ip address manually in command prompt, but that doesn't change anything.

When I run ipconfig/all in command prompt, I get this (minus the host name):

Hi,
2 weeks ago Malware.Trace & Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface were removed from my pc (using F-Secure and MAB). Things seemed ok at that point.

Last week I noticed I wasn't able to access the SEARCH function. A few days later Windows Media Player wasn't working and my scanner wasn't being recognized by the system.(Had a death in the family and didn't have time to pursue the issues at that time.)

Today I reinstalled Media Player and the scanner. Scanner is fine.

Both Windows Media Player and the SEARCH function work just fine when I use the Administrator account.

When I try to run WMP in any of the 3 limited user accounts I get this message: "An internal application error has occurred."

When I try to use the SEARCH function in the limited accounts, a window opens with only a blank folder in the title bar.

Please let me know what you think I should do.

Thanks a lot!

Attempted repairs so far:

good afternoon! while web browsing I am facing difficulty in using both google chrome and internet explorer. specially google chrome which remains totally unresponsive and does not function at all. internet explorer opens but often becomes unresponsive .pl. help! thanks and regards!

Answer:trouble using google chrome and internet explorer

Google chrome is a little easier as it can be completely uninstalled and all the settings removed. A reinstall will pretty much put everything back to default which will tell you if the problem is with your system or the installation. IE is a bit more difficult as it cannot be uninstalled. However first try clearing the cache completely and setting the config back to default. Also try removing the temp files from your profile. You can use the free version of CCleaner to do this which works quite well.
