Preferred Solution: chrome running slow and internet connection issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: chrome running slow and internet connection issues

Hello, Welcome to BleepingComputer.
I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

If you can please print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.
===
HijackThis doesn't handle Windows 7 well. In your case I need to see a final DDS Log.
I would remove HijackThis using the Add/Remove Programs list.

Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available.  Save it to your desktop.

1: DDS.scr (Not recommended if you use Chrome to download this .scr file. Use the other options.)
2: DDS.pif
3: DDS.COM

Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
Notepad will open with the results.
Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.[/list]Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.

Please just paste the contents of the DDS.txt log in your next post. DO NOT attach the log.===

Third party programs if not up to date can be the cause of infiltration an infection.
===

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

===

Search and delete the AdWare, PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) installed on your computer.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.

Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Delete tab follow the prompts.
A log file will automatically open after the scan has finished.
Please post the content of that log file with your next answer.
You can find the log file at C:\AdwCleaner[Rn].txt (n is a number).

Please post the logs and let me know what problem persists.

A couple of weeks ago I installed Windows 8 (fresh install from scratch, not an update) on my computer. I do a lot of web browsing and over the last couple of weeks I've been using Windows 8, I could swear the web browsing wasn't as fast at it used to be on Windows 7.
I then noticed I was having major issues bringing up my router's control panel (ASUS RT-N56U) so thinking it was my router I upgraded the firmware. Turned out, the Avast Anti-Virus I was running has issues with Windows 8. I removed AVAST and turned on Windows Defender (which in Windows 8 is also an anti-virus program now referred to MSE - Miscrosoft Security Essentials). MSE has gotten fairly good reviews so I decided to use it, for maximum compatibility with Windows 8.

However, although the router control panel would now come up okay, browsing still seemed to not be quite as fast as it used to be. I sat down at the old 5-year old Dell Desktop next to me that is running Windows 7, both computers were connected to the router via Gigabit Ethernet. I tested network speeds with Speedtest.net to make sure they were both getting the same Internet speeds (which they were.) I found a couple 'heavy' web pages to test:

Epicurious.com: Recipes, Menus, Cooking Articles & Food Guides (home page)
sports.yahoo.com (home page)

The browsing was MUCH faster on the Windows 7 machine!! So I decided to do more of a controlled test.

So this started about a few weeks ago after I've installed new modem from TWC.  But I don't think the modem or router (I own a separate router, it's Airport Extreme) is the issue because I can connect without issues using tablet or smartphone.  When i open an internet browser from my desktop, it just won't start or it just freezes. When i restart the computer, sometimes the internet browser will work and everything seems to be normal again.  Then a few minutes later when I open a new internet browser again, the same thing happens.  It just stops loading completely and then it freezes.  The same thing happens when I log in to minecraft, it just won't connect. The issue seems to only occur when I open an internet browser or a program that uses online connection.  I thought the issue may be IE so I downloaded Chrome but the same thing happens. It's anytime I try to open a program that uses Internet.  The program sometimes would start but eventually slows down or the program won't start at all until I restart the computer a few times.  Can someone please help? It's been extremely annoying to have to restart your computer every time the internet browser doesn't work.  By the way, the modem and router don't show signs of problems when i experience these issues.  I have an old laptop and can connect just fine using wifi so I think it's my computer.  Could this be malware?  I don't get redirected to sites or get pop-ups. ... Answer:Internet connection causing computer issues (IE or Chrome)

According to my opinion you should try to disable unwanted pop ups and plugins or may also install some popup blocker tool like smart popup blocker, adfender amd adwcleaner that helps to block pop-ups, clean cookies, and optimize your Internet-connection settings.

My internet seems to be running slow at the moment which is annoying the hell out of me. I run avg every so often - this doesnt find any infections also a few other programs (they dont find anything either. I also use ad-aware and get rid of the files on that.

But still it runs slow.

If someone could have a look for me or give any advice - would be grately appreciated.

Many thanks
Big Gow.

I have a really slow connection to the internet after I ran combo fix. I tried to diagnose and repair the problem via network sharing center and it fixed the issue but only for about a minute or too. I was not asked to run combofix, I read about it in another article and hastily ran it to remove some adware. I have the log file for that. Most connections I make time out. I have Win7 and run Google Chrome. On google chrome it hits a snag at resolving host. I tried pinging random sites and only one ping goes through. 75% loss but usually none go through 100% loss. I would love to be able to use internet again. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

I've been having some issues which are persisting. Basically my PC takes quite some time to boot up to a useable state (about ten minutes). Then when I try and use IE (or Safari) and Outlook Express I get very slow response, and frequent crashes. Most other applications I use also seem to be suggish, but not to the entent when I'm browsing the web or reading emails on Outlook Express.

A virus scan is picking up nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

I seem to be having issues with my laptop. It has recently started running reallyreally slowly, take ages to boot into windows. Once in windows it takes a good few minutes to allow me to use the start menu or click on my desktop icons. Also, when I am using the internet I keep getting errors saying that the server could not be found or 404 errors. When this happens I have to right click on mywireless network and click repair then it usually starts working again. I know this is not an issue with my actual internet connection as my girlfriends laptop does not do this at all. I have followed the five steps program and here are my los. Thankyou in advance for any time you spend helping me.

Basic information. I have a Dell Acer with Windows Vista Home Premium. My wireless internet has been working fine for over a year. A couple days ago while playing on xbox live we were bot booted off our internet. Ever since then my internet has been acting weird. It will say I'm connected at full strength but will either go slow or time out all together. Sometimes it will only be connected at the local level. I've tried resetting the router, unplugging it, resetting my computer IP address...etc...any other ideas? Other times it works fine, I've tested this on both Firefox and IE with the same result.

Answer:Internet Connection Issues (Slow/Timing Out)

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc.
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
For wireless laptops, have you made SURE the wireless switch is on?
For wired connection issues, have you booted in Safe Mode with Networking to see if that changes the symptoms?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, ... Read more

My computer runs very slow and I notice that on my computer properties it say I have 37.2BGB and 31.2used with 6.04free. My question is would this cause my computer to run slow. I don't know where the ram is going because I don't download. I just surf the web and play games online. I do have alot of $KB---$, KB--- files that I was told are log files. Can I safely delete this files now. I did a highjackthis on my computer and received help deleting programs and files that where not needed. But I was not sure if they said it was ok to safely delete this files as well. Because i do have alot of them. My computer is Toshiba Laptop Intel(R)Celeron(R)M 2002 Service pack 3 processor 1.60GHz, 504MB or RAM. I know I have asked alot but I am very frustrated not knowing what or how to fix this.

I'm experiencing unusual increased time in Windows startup, but the main issue is with the browsers that are showing strange behavior, especially Firefox. All of a sudden Firefox and, to a lesser degree, Chrome and IE, would freeze for several seconds and sometimes a minute or 2. I also experience temporary disconnection from the internet. Usually this is temporary, but sometimes I have to reboot my router and modem.
Yesterday I had a BSOD and I had a chance to take a picture of it that I'm including in attachment here.

Thanks for all your help!

My computer has been running slow for few months now despite having a high speed internet connection. I have tried to fix it by having its set up changed. It didn't fix the problem. It was working fine but one day it suddenly started running slow. At first I thought it must be a problem with the servers of my network provider but that wasn't the case. I've called the cable company to check several times but they said other users were able to use internet in full speed without any problem. I noticed the problem by trying to watch videos from various websites and after this problem occurred, they started loading super, super slowly. It has gotten to a point that I can no longer watch TV shows, movies, and other videos. The only video website that works is YouTube and even that doesn't function completely normally. Only most YouTube videos work without getting stuck too much. Another thing which I must mention is that quite often the internet cuts off in midst of browsing sessions and it doesn't reconnect without restarting the computer. My computer is a Dell laptop pc with Intel core i5 processor. I suspect that maybe my LAN card has worn out and it needs to be replaced. Although, I have been told by some computer technicians to not to do so. But they weren't able to give me any solutions. So here are my questions:

1. Should I get my LAN card changed?
2. If I should get my LAN card replaced, what model do I need that's compatible w... Read more

My laptop has recently started acting up when it comes to using the internet. I have tried unplugging the router and clearing cookies. Firefox is loading pages extremely slow and will not load some pages like Facebook at all. Please help me if you can. Thanks!

Answer:Laptop internet issues - Firefox running extremely slow and not loading some pages

Re: Laptop internet issues - Firefox running extremely slow and not loading some page

You cleared out just your cookies?
In Firefox press Crtl + Shift + Del you shall them be prompted with the catagories for tempory files to do with FF, clear all the ones you deam you can (maybe not passwords).
Once you have done that lets do a quick little maintenance run on your machine just to make sure they is nothing else bogging down FF.

Click Start then Run (or Windows Key + R) then type Cleanmgr and hit enter. It may take a while to do the first stage where it is organising the files it can deal with especially if you havn't done this for a long time.
Once this is done check all the types of files you wish to clear and click ok to delete those files.

Do you have anything like SmileyCentral or web search bars installed? If so lets type removing/disabling them. Start -> Control Panel -> (Set to classic view) -> Add/Remove Programs. Thumb through the list and remove any of the earlier mentioned types of programs.

Also I suggest you run Spybot search and Destroy and an Anti Viral check on your machine just to be safe.

Please tell me if any of this works or what the situation is like when you have done this and from there we can batt on with some more ideas

Good Luck.

Antony.

While using computer last night trying to update my games and the various applications to ensure the system is safe, I kept getting these Zone Alarm Alerts that  bit-torrent rundl32 - u torrent and other various run32dll WinSys alerts notifying me that they are trying to access the internet. when I went to open Zone Alarm, I was startled to notice that both the fire wall the id protection tabs were disabled leaving my system vulnerable.  The last time I checked to update Zone Alarm was just a couple days ago.  I have this set to be done manually. And, when I checked it a couple days ago, the Zone Alarm was all up and running fine. So, either the update I just completed on it last night caused the program to be rendered vulnerable, or possibly whatever possible virus I have on my wife's computer caused ZoneAlarm to crash.  However,  I select the deny option on all request on the above mentioned alerts to access the internet.  I did not download this U-Torrent or whatever other program is causing all the problems, but evidently found out that my son is the culprit. He has been trying to download free peer to peer mp3's again for his Ipod.  So,  I ran the free version of Avast Antivirus, and it discovered (1) virus, called, " Wind32.Malware-Gen. After I ran the initial scan, I rebooted and let it complete the full bootscan.  It stated that It eliminated the infection and stored it in the Virus Chest.  Next, I ran a free ESET onli... Hello,
Recently my PC has been taking a while to start up. I am currently running windows 10 and after logging onto my computer I am faced with a black screen that can last ages. The only way I've found to get rid of it is by ctrl+alt+del and opening task manager. After this has happened programs seem to take longer to load up, the most problems I've had is with chrome. At first I thought this was me not updating chrome, so I updated it and for a while it worked fine however now it is running slowly and I keep getting a "shock wave flash player not responding" then the kill or wait option for chrome. I would like to add that I have done various virus scans and optimizers with norton and according to norton it has nothing to do with useless files or viruses. I have personally scanned through all my files finding things I do not think are needed/don't think should be there but things still take longer to run. I have updated all of my drivers that I can in the past month so I can't see it being a driver issue (side note: my PC is very powerful so it isn't an issue with my hardware being incapable or running anything). An odd part of this issue is that after the initial delay of startup my PC runs fine and programs are usually not delayed until chrome begins to run slowly. On games I still get very high FPS and they load up easily. I noticed my self that a program I use called Discord is part of the start up process and once discord starts to respond everything else usually soon ... Read more

Answer:PC and Chrome running slow.

Ok, several points and questioned to be raised.
Firstly, "my PC is very powerful so it isn't an issue with my hardware being incapable or running anything". Despite this, you shouldn't rule out a possible hardware issue. From what you describe, I feel it's unlikely to be your hardware but just be aware that even supercomputers have problems caused by hardware.
Next, if possible, please post a list of 3rd party applications you've got installed on your PC. (I.E anything not installed my Microsoft.)
Also, a good starting point is to do the following to check your installation of windows:
Start > type "cmd" > right click 'command prompt' > run as admin > type "sfc/scannow"
This can take no time at all or it can take an hour, please post the results back.
After this, if the problem remains, a fresh install of Windows 10 may be in order, so please inform me if your ok with that or not.
NOTE 1: There are rare cases where the mixture of Norton, Chrome and Windows 10 seem to not work perfectly, so a forward step may also be to switch either security or browser.
Note 2: Have you contacted Microsoft support? If yes, please post what they said/did. If no, then that may be a good place to start seeing as it is their software.

Hi, I'm Richard. Suddenly, my computer has been running really slow, especially Google Chrome, with Shockwave/Flash always crashing. I've been using VIPRE antivirus for about a year and had done fine until now. I used Control Panel to get rid of alot of stuff, including Bonjour. I read through many forums looking for clues. I ran SuperAntispyware and MalwareBytes (which froze), and also downloaded Hitman Pro (haven't run yet). I tried GMER, and it warned of a rootkit, so here I am posting and asking for your advice. Thanks in advance!

Sorry about the double post. First I tried to post using Google Chrome. When I clicked to submit the post, I got a blank page. I checked first to see if it had posted anyway, and got "page not found," so I figured there had been an error and the post had been lost. That's why I tried again using a different browser (Internet Explorer). I'm very sorry. Thanks for your understanding.

When I launch FF or Chrome, it loads, freezes for 4-5 sec and then shows the window. I reinstalled Windows and the bug appears again..

Answer:Chrome and Firefox running slow

Try in clean boot mode. If it works, then slowly restore the software to determine the cause.

Hi, my laptop is running really slowly and has got a lot worse recently. At times it isn't too bad but it doesn't take much for it to become overwhelmed - today it ground to a halt completely. I would be incredibly grateful if you can help in any way. Thank you.

Yesterday, I posted that my computer was having some issues and most of the issues have since been fixed. My computer is working fine and the internet is no longer directing me to random sites nor is it opening tabs to random sites on it's own and it is not freezing up either. My automatic updates and firewall are all on and everything is currently up to date. However, I have both Google Chrome and Firefox and both are running very slow but was working just fine yesterday. I have no idea why they are running so slow.

Google Chrome has been running slower than usual the past couple of days so I think I may be infected. I recently installed a streaming software but deleted it so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this. I have tabs that frequently crash and it's slow typing and scrolling through a page sometimes. I am running windows 7. I ran a Microsoft Security Essentials scan and it came up with nothing. Then, I ran a Malwarebytes scan about an hour ago and it came up with 16 infections which I quarantined but it still feels a little laggy. Thanks in advance.

Answer:My connection running so slow ... 2kb/sec dl using 576k connection speed

Call your ISP. I am sure there might have been some guarenteed level of service when you signed up. Either way, I would hardly call that connection speed broad band.

I've been having some problems opening up Google Chrome today, and the internet and speed of my PC is gotten noticeably slower. I believe I may have some malware that may need removing, if I need to do some hijack logs or anything please point in the right direction! It's been some time since I last had a problem like this.

Cheers, and thanks in advance.

I know it's malware, and from reading the forums I didn't run Comboware (i think that was the name) because the previous issue involved Symantec AV protection. I use AVG, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes on this machine so didn't use previous advice. BTW, love you guys and use bleepingcomputer all the time to check startup programs. Thank you!

Is this normal? pc hogging resources
Before I consider buying another laptop I'm trying to understand whether what I am presently running is reasonable or whether there are any particular services hogging resources? Presently the computer seems to lag and is quite slow to perform basic transactions eg print to pdf in nitro pdf or adobe?
The main applications I use are Google Chrome / Dragon Dictate software 12.0 / Windows Office. Both of Chrome / Dragon seem to take up half to 1 GB of RAM when in use? Is this normal?
The two and half year old PC runs Windows 7 with 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB of hard drive space and 2 Ghz processor.
Would something new run any faster or should I try to reduce browser extensions turn off dragon dictate and put up with it?
The fan seems to run noisy continuously too.
Any feedback would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance for your any comments.

I have two computers running Windows 8.1 and have Google Chrome, with latest updates.

Over the past months I've been running into problems when the Adobe Flash plug-in runs. I've seen it notoriously bad on forums and on photo sharing sites (like Photobucket).

Symptom:
Initial page load will be fine.As site Flash media begins to execute, the browser page will become sluggish.Scrolling will become increasingly slow and unresponsive.Eventually a warning appears at the top that Flash is running slowly and if I wish to stop it.Stopping it will trigger a reload.Often Flash will end up crashing altogether.

This behavior won't be cleared until the browser is completely stopped and restarted. There does seem to be a worsening if multiple tabs on the same site are opened, but even still, crashes will happen with just a few tabs open.

My browser has only one instance of the Flash plug-in (there are numerous tips about checking Chrome plug-ins, finding 2 Flash entries, and disabling one). There is nothing else added that could be doing anything to interfere with Flash. I have Avast Anti-virus, but disabling it doesn't seem to affect Flash reliability.

I have reproduced this easily on two completely separate computers running Windows 8.1 on Google Chrome. I've searched on-line but haven't turned up much help at all.

Any advice on how to deal with this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi
I'm experiencing, Browser Redirects, Multiple Chrome.Exe*32 showing up in processes , Freezing, Slow running and lack of memory.
The problem started first with a general slowing, which has been getting worse and now quite a few Not responding issues that right themselves after ten to 15 seconds. Redirects started this morning, which I thought I had got rid of trough SUPERAntispyware, however a single incident just occurred pointing to a page called WebCloud. I'm also quite distrustful of my Google page. It takes a long time to load, and there's something not quite right about the look!!! I also don't get the padlock icon on sites like Ebay, which I did before.

Thanks

When opening Google Chrome on my computer, I get an error message and an unable to use the program.  Further, Internet Explorer often kicks me off after an extended amount of use.  On top of this, my computer as a whole has been slow, especially in regards to internet functions.  The internet itself seems to be coming in at a good speed, but my computer is unable to utilize it.

I recently ran MalwareBytes, which found over a hundred issues which it claimed to have fixed. Prior to this, I was getting numerous pop-ups, but this has since been fixed. However, any of the other problems are still ongoing.

Please advise on how I should continue.

My laptop is nearly three years old. Two days ago, I replaced a fan that had become worn down and was causing an irritating noise by opening the back of the computer and removing the old one. This worked without trouble, but afterwords, I began to observe a stutter in connection. Without warning, google chrome could freeze, and the connection would go from "Connected" to "Limited". Turning the on and off airplane mode resulted only in no connections being found, despite their obvious availibility on other devices. I was able to get a temporary fix out of disabling and enabling wireless networking through the control panel, but it would shortly start up again and otherwise requires a restart to fix.  Is this a hardware issue? Something that I bumped while fixing the fan? Or does it need a new network adapter entirely?

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.I would recommend that you double check all the connections, make sure that nothing is loose or potentially disconnected.

Also, Try to download the WiFi and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

A question,

We use google chrome as our default internet browser. While it is loading up in the lower left hand of the window we see the text lines say resolving host then establishing secure connection now this does take some time before the site comes up - Do I have a problem? My wife always asks "why does it say waiting on yahoo" as just an example. I told her it was a network traffic issue. Just like a little help on this.

Answer:When using google chrome establishing secure connection slow

Delays such as you describe...I just went through a spell with such (Firefox).

Refreshing the browser (or resetting it) may eliminate the problem.

I have installed superanti spyware and that found some stuff to delete, Im quite computer illiterate, the internet is running at about 4 or 5 for speed and it should be 8 according the internet provider, they said everything is fine from their end, however I may have programs running on the computer that shouldnt be and are slowing it down, Im not sure if this is a spyware issue, virus, program not needed? Under the windows task manager the system idle process is 98 under the cpu, everything else is 0, I dont know if that makes a difference?

Hello
My husband uses Chrome and it is running very slow. Firefox seems unaffected.
I recently wiped my computer after a nasty virus and have been trying out various security systems recently trying to decide what I want to buy. Currently using trial version of Avast. I am guessing that I need to take some of those off and would love any advise to get rid of unnecessary programs. I am looking at you, HP!
In looking at other threads I read potential helpers like to have people download and run speccy and minitoolbox to spot what is wrong. Thanks in advance for your help, A

Answer:Chrome running very slow in Vista Home Premium SP2, 64-bit Dell studio laptop

@abzurdly zane

You should only have one active antivirus installed at any time.  Multiple antivirus programs can cause false positives, it can even cause your computer to become unstable resulting in BSODs.

Your D: drive has 0% free space.  It is full.

How did you reinstall Windows?

Is Firefox running slower than Chrome your only problem?

Answer:RE: internet running slow and system CPU running at 100% constant....

From now on please create a new thread for your problem instead of posting in someone else's. I have created a new thread for you this time so post in here from now on.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Download HijackThis 1.99.1

Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

Run HijackThis and save your log file.

Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

Need help with HJT? See this thread: NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

I was helping my buddy get rid of a nasty program that was trying to install itself on his Packard Bell PC and now he cannot use his AOL 9 and his computer is running slow, real slow, snail pace slow.

His Bitdefender 3-month pre-installed AV expired and he's been without protection for about 6 months. I know, I know, not very smart.

Working for the last week, at a snail's pace, using a USB key, we managed to install and run (he's now running all this stuff on safe mode)
1. ccleaner
2. eusing free registry cleaner
3. cwshredder
4. avira anti vir
5. spyblaster
6. on line armor firewall
7. malwarebytes' anti-malware
8. superantispyware

(spybot wont install without an internet connection)

I keep insisting to my buddy that we must first clean his PC and then and only then deal with the connection problem and the slowness problem.

Any help would be most appreciated. He's been without an internet connection for a week now and it's driving him nuts.

Answer:pc running slow no connection

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.

TDSSserv Non-Plug & Play Driver Disable

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!

Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
[*]Starting your computer in Safe mode
If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could... Read more

Hi guys! I have compounded issues, but I can't get my computer to properly search through the threads to see if any have been answered. Please bear with me.

Almost 2 weeks ago, my computer (Windows XP version 2002, service pack 3) started freezing up while I was on the internet... sometimes while I was in a Microsoft Office 2003 program while I had an internet window open.

I have compounded the problem from there, after running Spybot. I then attempted to do a recovery from Spybot and it is no better. I've done a defrag... and then I installed and ran Registry Mechanic. Among other things, I suspect that Spybot removed something from my Linksys DSL setup. I attempted to re-install the drivers, but that did no good. I am now running (if you want to call it that) at 1 Mbps instead of the 54 Mbps I'm supposed to be running at.

I use Yahoo for my email, and it has gotten to where it takes several minutes to load a message for me to preview. Sometimes that takes several attempts. My entire computer seems to be running very slowly.

The issue is not with the router, or with the DSL connection itself. No one else in the office is having this issue. Trying to find the HijackThis file to download so I can post my log, but I'm having a really tough time maneuvering around websites these days.... Can you please help me?

Right-click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Internet Options and check the settings in the Connections tab and the LAN button, only item that usually should be checked is at the top for Automatically detect......... Some ISPs may specify different settings and some infections can change to use Proxy settings. Could right-click the Start button, go to Command Prompt, either one, the type ping and the name of a site such as your ISP or google.com to see if you get a return message. Use only what is in bold, no www. or https://, etc. Could use most any Domain but some will block the ping command. If you get a message back with 4 lines that mention speed or time you Internet connection is working.

Don't know what it is, but it's got me all jacked up. Started getting the "Generic Host process for Win32 has encountered a problem..." message, then Chrome quit opening anything except the home page, Opera quit opening anything at all, IE works occasionally if address is typed; search engine results are usually redirected to odd pages--very seldom the same page twice. Safari works, but keeps opening new windows if it sits longer than 3 or 4 minutes with any activity. Now computer varies between operating fine and dragging drastically. Add/Remove Programs screen only populates about 50% of the time. Never a second time without rebooting. When it is up, no obvious programs show up. Avast finds nothing, MalwareBytes shows nothing.

Any help will be appreciated. I have limited time on computer right now due to long work days, but will check every couple of days for updates.

I'm having problems regarding my wireless internet. First off, we've got two computers, one upstairs which uses a regular modem, and this one downstairs which gets its internet connection through a router upstairs.

Now, from my computer upstairs, the internet works flawlessly throughout of the day. This downstairs computer, its internet connection is...to put it mildly, crap, depending on the time of day. Speed always seems to go real slow at around the same time each day, around 2pm, around 4pm and again around 7pm. It seems to get back on track around 9-10pm, which is right now.

The funny thing is that it says connection is 'excellent' or 'very good'. Here's an example. It's the same scenario whether internet connection is actually very very slow or at normal speed.

I have no idea why, and I'd be really grateful if anyone can help me out. Tips or remedies on what I can do, because it's very frustrating!

Thank you.

Router: Edimax BR-604 WG

Answer:Very slow internet connection though status shows connection is 'excellent'

Hello -

Thanks for the help, in advance. My computer is running fairly slow now-a-days, and I don't think it should be, as it is fairly new. Additionally, occasionally my internet will just stop working. I imagine it's something related to spyware, but I can't seem to pin the problem. Here's my log.

Hello! My friend has a Hp Presario Compaq pc with Vista Home Premium 32 bit with 3 gigs memory.

I just went through the Malware scans on the Malware forum and they said to come here for additional help. The computer is slow still even though I did the speed up vista tools.

Now here is a few problems I am having thus far. When I was told to check the box for normal start up in msconfig I did and then deselected all the programs that were running except antivirus and restarted the computer. Well it automatically went to selective startup again with every program running. I cannot seem to keep it on normal startup.

Issue number 2 When I run sfc/scannow it tells me it cannot repair corrupt files. I will attach the screen shot.

Thanks for any help you can provide...

Hi,

If I knew what was going wrong; I'd fix it. As I don't I've posted the issue here in the XP section, as everything I have done so far indicates some kind of software problem.

A week ago (thereabouts) Windows XP start-up was much slower than usual. The start-up screen takes twice as long, the login screen is unresponsive for some time, and once logged-in it takes much longer than it should.

There are a host of other issues. The audio is regularly distorted / skipping - it's especially noticable at login where that interminable jingle is really garbled. iTunes is much less responsive than usual.

It seems to be in general though, that processes run slower and stutter. It's just particularly noticeable with audio.

In addition, security centre now does not detect AVG nor Sunbelt firewall.

When the first slow login occured, I was groaning - I had the /exact/ same issues, exact same symptoms (down to security centre then not detecting zonealarm) around January. I tried a host of things, but in the end I reinstalled windows.

I really don't want to reinstall windows, but have tried similar things as before, and have got no where.

So far, I have:
- Scanned for viruses and spyware (AdAware and SpyBot and AVG)
- Uninstalled anything I installed the days leading up to the slow-down.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers.
- Selective startup via msconfig
- Tried a system restore to prior-slowdown
- chkdsk for errors
- Ran memcheck from boot

Hi Guys,

I have a friend who has a Toshiba laptop.

I gave him a copy of Bitdefender 2008 (Trial) to install on his laptop. I think its a great Anti-Virus Suite, and has worked great on all machines I have installed it on.

He installed it on his, and since installing it his computer is playing up really bad.

It takes ages to load. Can't shut down, can't uninstall items and can't restore a system restore before the install.

Now I think it may have something to do with having Norton, Symantec Coroporate and Bitdefender running at once.

Now I have gone into safe mode, attempting uninstall, no success due to the Windows Installer not functional in safe mode.

I attempted to stop all things to do with all programs starting up in msconfig. Still no success

I am considering getting into safe mode just to backup vital data, but I would like to be able to just fix it, just so I know how to do it, then format.

So any ideas would be really helpful..

Thanks in advance

Answer:XP Home Issues, Running VERY Slow

hello 3PointJ,

what you need to do is go into (services) then find all services that are concerned with (norton) & (symantec)

for each service that you find you will want to (right) click it then select (properties) then select the box that gives you the option to select ( automatic/manual/disable) then you will want to select disable

then you will want to go into (msconfig) once there you wil want to select (services) and do the sams as the above instructions

then you will need to select (selective startup) then uncheck the (load startup items) then select (apply) then close / to wich then you will be prompted to reboot (yes)

then you will be able to uninstall all of (norton) & (symantec) programs & services

when uninstalled then do a search for (norton) & (symantec) then deleat all that it finds , if there is some things that wont be deledted dont worry just deleat what you can

then do a defrag then go back into msconfig and reverse what you have done by selecting (normal startup) then apply /close /reboot

then get back to us

That's actually my first issue, but I wanted to make a quick remark that apparently Chrome isn't going to let me post a new topic in this forum, either.  I tried to post about this in Chrome and kept getting a "You don't have permission to do that," message.

So, I guess there is some conflict with Chrome extenstions, maybe?  Had no problems on my previous computer.

The scenario is that I just got my "new" Dell Optiplex GX620 up and running with the sound issue mentioned elsewhere all figured out.  I use both Chrome and Firefox with a preference for Chrome.  When I'm on facebook or someone sends me a video, the video quits at around 10-15 seconds in and absolutely crashes all internet connectivity.  Repairing the connection doesn't not work.  My USB dongle (TP-Link Wireless) may report a connection strength of "low" in spite of the fact that my router, which is fairly new for the last few months, broadcasts out to the street (I can access the internet with no issues on my iPad during this time).  The ONLY thing that seems to fix the issue is rebooting the computer.

I have not noticed the issue with Firefox, so I'm wondering if one of my Chrome extensions is causing it.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Videos in Chrome causing internet connection failure

OK, here's an update.  It no longer seems to be browser specific. The issue is now cropping up with pretty much any video that streams off the web on any web browser.  The origin of the video doesn't seem to matter, so I'm guessing it's got to have something to do with either my TP-Link wireless dongle, or some issue I don't know about.  I will try to get another dongle and see if that fixes the problem.  At least they're fairly cheap.

In the meantime, PLEASE chime in if you have any thoughts.
Thank you.

I don't get what's wrong with this computer. Almost everyday it acts slow, it takes about 2 minutes to login to a page. Some days it will act fast and other days it won't and it's annoying, especially when I have to use the internet to research! It's even acting worse than a 56k modem. I've done a spyware check with spyweeper and it finds adware sometimes and I delete them, but it doesn't seem to have an affect on the speed. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be and how to fix it. Also I have a very old cable modem, I've had it since 2002 I believe. It's a Surfboard SB4100 Cable Modem.

hey all

have been trying to setup an internet connection for one of my friends and after a long wait she had finally got a cable to connect her PC to her phone line however it cannot find a dial tone. On closer inspection it transpires that she has an Intel(R) Pro/100 VE network connection and no modem that i can find. does she need to purchase a new modem or is there a way to setup her internet using this connection (either dial-up or broadband)?

thanks in advance

Cam

Answer:Internet Connection Issues - PRO/100 VE network connection

For broadband --> dsl, she needs a modem supplied by her ISP.--> Intel(R) Pro/100 VE network is the network card.
For dial up...she needs an internal modem --> should be in the device manager.

Hello!

Im at my witt's end with BT at this present moment in time, i've been an internet customer with BT since there internet service started and i have never regreted it or had a problem, until now. I'am signed up to the 8 meg package, according to BT wholesale i should be able to get around 7.5meg, as im not far from my exchange. Since it rolled out in my area a couple of years ago, i have had around 7.5meg and been pleased with the service.

Last Monday, my Internet began to slow down, only short sharp dip's but has gradually got worse and worse. Now I'm downloading a roughly 7-14kbps. I went through the steps of power cycling my router, and also reseting it, no change. I then did several speeds tests, none going above 423kps Downstream, and only 248kps upstream. I used BT's Speed tester, several times i got a error message saying that it could not be done due to a problem.

At this time my BT Home hub was telling me:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 5,438

With this, i began to check my filters, i had two spare (new) and changed them over to be safe, still my tests are telling me under 1meg.

I decided to phone BT, i was told a line test would be done, no problem was found. I was told to monitor it and come back in 48 hours if there was no improvement. There was no improvment, so phoned back, I was spoken to rudely and told that what my router was telling me now:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 438 / 6,447

was correct and that wa... Read more

My computer is running very slow, and my broadband connection is probably about as fast as a 56k modem. I hooked my friends computer to my connection and the internet works normally on his machine. I have tryed reinstalling windows xp and still no luck on getting it fixed. Could this be a hardware problem or likely something wrong with windows xp? How can I find out whats causeing the problem? Should I try a clean reinstall and if so can someone please tell me how to format my c: drive when the only partition is the one windows xp is installed on? I will be very very thankful for any insight into how to fix my PC.

Hi all, i joined today because its all going pear shaped! grrr.
Right so my main issues are:
pc running really slow, takes ages to load up programs.

And most annoyingly when i'm typing the keys either stop working altogether, or its like i'm holding a key down when i'm not so i get this kinda of effect > 'annnnnoyyingggggggggg', or a key won't register so i get this kind of effect >
'cn somoe plase elp me'.
Its taken me 3 attempts just to get this far!

i recently had a virus that shuts down the pc with this message ' NT AUTHORITY SHTDOWN your pc will shut down in 60 secs', and then it does just that, i think i got it but not sure whatelse is going on?

Please help anyone....

My computer has been running fairly slow lately. After running the symantec scanner, etrust and a bunch of other things I found that I have some spyware problems.

XoftspySE says I have problems with WildTangent, CWS.Dreplace, CWS.Oslogo, Purityscan\ClickSpring, and Viewpoint. From what I read Viewpoint came from AOL so I'm not sure if I need to do anything about it.

Here is my log, thanks for any help:

Our company has recently been deploying the Dell Latitude D630 laptops with the T7500 chip (2.2 GHz). We have had a large number of users complain that these things actually run some applications *much slower* than older laptops.

I've not yet heard back from the Dell engineers about it, but most of us are convinced that this particular dual-core chip doesn't seem to run well with older applications like MS Excel 2003 or Lotus Notes 7.0.3. The previous D630s with the T7300 chip running at 2.0 GHz do NOT seem to have this issue.

Does anyone know of a fix for this specific chip? Or for this issue in general?

Thanks in advance - I always get such great feedback on this board

Answer:Issues with Dual cores running slow

I don't know the answer to your question but you should include operating system information on the new and old laptops for better feedback.

Hi guys, haven't had to use this site in a while but suspect I have something screwed up. I am running a dell intel pentium III processor with 996mhz and 512mb of RAM. Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 3. My system seems slow and not sure what's going on with the mouse. Its a logitec wireless mouse and when i click on it, one of two things happen, either i get an unintentional double click or else it doesn't recognize the click at all.

I'm including a hijackthis. Can someone who knows how to look at this evaluate it for me.
