Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

Question: Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

I'm writing this post because this was asked so many times over, but nobody seems to have come up with a good answer. People suggested some trials of paid programs, but that's not really an everyman solution. I don't know on how many machines my workaround will work, depends on the audio chip.

I'm going to tell you how to do this in foobar2000. My system is Win7.

0) I think that this will work only if you see something like this in your Playback devices (right-click windows audio icon & select from menu to launch it):

So if the headphone output is not "Ready" when nothing is plugged into it, you will maybe be able to use the HDMI output if you feel adventurous, or for that matter any output that you have. You possibly have no idea why I'm talking about that, but this will be clear after reading through the rest of my little manual.

1) download & install foobar2000 here:
play around with it of you don't know the player.

2) download & install the latest ASIO4ALL here:
leave all install options default.

3) download ASIO support for foobar2000:
double-click it, fb2k will install it automatically.

4) go to foobar2000 file->preferences->output->asio. Check if asio4all is visible at the top list. You can use the x64 driver (requires foobar2000 restart)

5) Add a new channel mapping. Don't change the name, you won't need it anyway. click "configure"

6) ASIO4ALL window will pop up. Enable advanced settings (bottom right).

7) now there's the icky tricky part. Click the [+] next to all and enable all the outputs that you like (sometimes the HDMI output is also there). What you really need is sth like "internal speakers out" and "HpOut". On my computer (Dell Inspiron 15R) it looks like this:

8) IF YOU CAN'T SEE TWO OUTPUT DEVICES HERE YOU WILL PROBABLY NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS. Sorry (everything depends on how your soundcard handles it, maybe connecting the headphones will make it appear? Try around).

9) Click "cancel"
(this was for other outputs to appear)
10) Click "Add new". Rename it to "int+ext" or whatever.

11) Map <channel_name> 1 to the Left channel and <channel_name> 2 to Right (you can play with that, even build a faux surround with a bit of luck). Play test signals if you're not sure where each channel should be. On my machine it's like that:

12) Click OK, Apply, then restart fb2k and go to file->preferences->output

13) Select the output: ASIO : int+ext. Click OK. Play your favorite piece of audio

If you did everything correctly, you should hear all the outputs together. Meaning your internal speakers and the jack-connected headphones or speakers. The sound will work ONLY fb2k, you will have to stop [ ] the music to use any other program that outputs sound. ASIO overrides Windows output. Most music files will work. The method is transferable to any program that can support ASIO.

Leave some feedback if it worked for you. Or if it didn't, anything's good.

Preferred Solution: Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

Props to OP - I've found a somewhat related hassle-free solution for desktops with Realtek Audio.

In the settings, you can 'disable front jack detection'. Therefore, speakers connected to the rear panel won't stop when you plug something else in the front.

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Hi,I have a Vision laptop running Windows 7 that was recently formatted. Since then, I have been unable to play sound from all of its internal speakers at once. Also, when I connect to a bluetooth device (in this case, a Bose Soundlink Mini, which has been tested on other machines) the audio quality is very poor and crackly. When I go to the control panel to set the playback device it presents me with three different, completely identical speakers to choose from. Depending on which one I choose, I get sound from either the bottom (sub-wooferish), the top (treble-heavy), or the middle (mid-range) of the laptop. They are all just called "Enheden High Definiftion Audio" ("High Definition Audio Device"). In the device manager, there are two identical entries both called "High Definition Audio Device" (see attached screenshots). If I try to remove theese, Windows calls for a reboot and then immediately reinstalls them when it boots up. I don't know which sound card I have and the dxdiag only list the three "Enheden High Definiftion Audio" devices (see below or attached txt-file).I've searched far and wide, but I've been unable to find neither answers nor people with similar problems. I think this is a driver issue since it appeared after a format, but I'm not completely sure.Hope you guys can help!Best,Bertel DxDiag:------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 9/13/2015, 14:11:47   ... I just reloaded a laptop with XP SP2. After reload, my laptop internal and external speakers don't produce any sound. I loaded the driver from the laptop manufacturers website. And everything appears to be set correctly and working from a systems view. However - no sound from PC on boot, application, or cd or dvd play.

In Control Panel/Sound and Audio
Hardware tab - Windows says the hardware is working OK
Volume tab - All mute buttons are off/unchecked. Volume is high on all componets - PC Speaker etc.

I've also removed the driver and reloaded it. still nothing.

Is there anything else I should try? I doubt it is the motherboard.....

Answer:No sound from internal or external speakers after XP reload on laptop

It may not be the correct driver. There are some cases that the OS wopuld not report any abnormalities but the driver may not be the exact driver you need. Identify the sound device you need ( you can use unknown device identifier for that ) and download the apropriate driver.

Also check the microphone socket incase something got stuck in there.

My Logitech Z333 speakers worked fine in my previous laptop, but ever since I got this new Y50 laptop last week, it has suddently stopped working. I plugged in my speakers into the 3.5mm jack, and the only sound to come out of them were buzzing sounds.  This is weird because when I plugged my speakers into my phone, the sound played through the speakers fine, and when I plugged my earphones into my laptop, the sound came through them fine, but now when I plug in the speakers into my laptop, no sound comes through. Is there something I have to download? Like a software update, or a driver? I have checked the Device Manager, and everything is up to date. How do I fix this? Thanks  Mod's Edit: System model added to Subject line to improve visibility / clarity

I have L500-13T(PSLJ3E) with 32 bit Vista.

When I connect external speakers, the internal speakers continue to play. So I have sound on both. Other laptops turn off the internal speakers when an extenal one is connected.
How to make the L500 also do the same?

Answer:Satellite L500-13T - External speakers do not mute internal speakers

First try updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Also check the Sound Settings in Windows - perhaps you can configure this 'feature'.

Also check the HDMI settings, and have a read of the Users Manual.

My external speakers work but my internal ones stay muted.  I have re-installed all drivers (Realtek) & problem won't go away. Also tried system restore & system scan shows no problem.

Answer:Internal speakers stay mute when external speakers disconnected

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.
You can test the driver by switching it with the Windows native driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked [but SEE NOTE].7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]NOTE: if you have a 2-in-1 model and do not see a "High Definition Audio" option after step 6, then uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. However, due to a fit of stupidity I have overlooked the fact that only either the radio's speakers or the computer's speakers can be connected to the computer's sound output at once.

I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? Cuz when I tried putting the radio into the (<-->) slot and the comps speakers into the (<-) or vice versa, only the one put into the (<-) will play.

Answer:How to make radio speakers and computer speakers play at the same time?

Go get a splitter. I have my audio output setup using a splitter and it works fine. You can hook up both devices to the 1 output jack on your pc.

I recently purchased a Studio 1558 laptop. The specs are below:
Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU   Q 720 @ 1.60 GHZRAM: 6 GBSystem type: 64-bit operating systemATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470Sound - ATI High Definition Audio Device, IDT High Definition Audio CODECI have plugged in older Dell speakers that I used with my desktop. The sound works fine until I load a webpage, or load a folder etc and then sound will temporarily switch from my external speakers to my internal laptop speakers. This is quite annoying as it happens frequently and sometimes I blare my externals which can't be good if it keeps switching to my internals.
Can anyone recommend a fix? It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi jc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never seen one of these before, Try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the notification area, select Playback Devices, You should be able to select the speaker device that you want to use.
Right click enable/disable Hide/unhide
Left Click will allow you to configure the device after selecting Configure
Properties will also give you some options

I hope this helps

Hi there

I have an Acer Aspire laptop and bought a little bass speaker that will enhance what I currently have on my laptop.

Only problem however is that when plugging this speaker into the headphone jack my internal speakers don't play anymore.

How can I play through both my internal laptop speaker and through this external speaker at the same time.

Your help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Play sound through internal speakers and headphones simultaneously

For most systems dual sound is impossible. Actually I'm not sure if that is possible at all on any card at all...I've browsed around the internetz, and this is what everyone seems to say on this subject.
My advice would be if you are using your laptop for home use only, just go buy external speakers as well, as long as you have 2 sound ports. If not you can get a splitterand plug both the bass and speakers in that.
Sorry I couldn't be of much more help!

I am working on a sony vaio pcg-3b1m

The power socket has recently been repaired, and the laptop fully and correctly (I have checked), re assembled.

Problem is, there is little or no sound coming from the internal, or when connected, external speakers.
Have tried updating drivers, and all the usual sound checks, but to no avail. Even so far as a full factory restore has been done, but still with no joy.

Any suggestions?

The long and short of this is no.

I've looked into this thoroughly in the past and it's just not possible

The only thing I have come across (other than having a corrupted audio driver) which might be able to do it is NTONYX - VIrtual Audio Cable 4 but I could never get it to work and I didn't think it was worth the money.

I hope you can have more luck with this than me.

The soundcard on my toshiba p-50 satellite stopped working, therefore i can't use my internal speakers or audio jack. I purchased a usb audio jack so i could use my headphones but i'm still unable to use my internal speakers. I was thinking maybe an external sound card could do the trick, I'm not sure. Any suggestion on how I could use my internal speakers without having to go through the trouble of replacing the broken soundcard?

Answer:How to use internal speakers with a external sound

I can't think of any way of connecting internal speakers to an external soundcard as far as I'm aware they're hard wired to the internal soundcard and if that's gone they're not getting any signal and without popping the case and rewiring them that's how they'll stay. If anybody knows otherwise please say.
I'd be tempted to try a cheap compact Bluetooth speaker or combine the USB audio jack with some clip on speakers.

I hope someone here can solve this problem because I'm at my wits end.

I installed a Microsoft headset called "LifeChat LX-3000" with a built in microphone. I only want to use it to make online videos for my business. Everything worked fine until I unplugged the headset. I can't get any sound at all from my computer. The internal speakers and external speakers give me no sound. The only way I can hear anything is by wearing the headset. I finally gave up and uninstalled the headset, but I still can't get any sound.

Any suggestions?? Why in the world can't I get my sound back??

Answer:[SOLVED] No Sound Through Internal or External Speakers

First, I am assuming that you still have your speakers hooked up the female mini pin that is green.

Second, go to
Start > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Device properties

3. Click on audio tab. Default device listed should be your onboard audio or sound card. If is not selected, select it and hit apply. If nothing is in the selection box, you may have to reinstall or re-enable your audio device.

4. Click on volume tab. Make sure mute is not selected.

Thanks for the post @vpiPhillip,

I understand that you had to reinstall Windows 8 and are facing difficulty in activating the OS on your computer. Happy to help.

Have you tried any methods on your own?

If you have installed Windows 8 using the recovery kit that was created on your computer, recommend you to refer to this HP Article for the procedure to activate Windows 8 on your computer.

Hi, I am currently looking for a way to make my built in laptop speakers and my external speakers play at the same time.

Like most laptops if there is something plugged into the line out jack the internal speakers are disabled and the external speakers take priority.

Is there a program that could accomplish this or is what I'm asking terribly difficult to accomplish?

Something that may be significant is that my integrated audio chip set is not manufactured by Realtek (nor is any other part of my computer).

Answer:Enable Internal and External speakers at the Same Time

You could try something like Virtual Audio Cable. Theres a trial version available.

The headphone jack on my Sony Vaio notebook has a "loose contact" and it is no longer possible to listen with headphones. So I bought a USB sound card and plugged it in. That works fine when you are listening through the headphones but the card seems to hijack the whole sound system. It installs itself as THE sound card and the original card is disabled. If I boot up the machine with the USB card it automatically installs itself (logical enough). If I then want to just briefly listen to a file without searching for my headphones it is not possible. The internal speakers are not running through the USB sound card. If I go into the Control Center and change the sound card under "Audio" I can then listen through the internal speakers. But this is a real pain. I tried using Device Manager and the Audio in Control Center to see if I could re-route the internal speakers through the USB card but I couldn't even locate them let alone re-route them. If anyone out there knows how to do this I would appreciate the tip. Maybe it's just not possible. One or the other.

If I bought a PCMCIA Soundblaster card would I have the same problem?

My laptop's internal speakers recently went straight from normal to no sound whatever (from any source), while the volume level still fluctuates as expected in the System Tray Volume Mixer. External speakers work fine. Is this a simple case of the internal ones giving up the ghost? (The laptop is 6 years old).

Hi I bought a E470 Thinkpad with windows 10 ~2 months ago. The computer has been sitting idle for the last month (in sleep mode) and when I started it today I have an issue where the internal speakers wont output any sound. However connecting headphones or other external devices lets me outout audio (through said device). I've looked through various topics online (non-lenoveo related). The most common issues people have are the following:-Speakers are disabled / not selected as default device  *Pretty confedent this isn't my problem as everythin seems fine in the audio properties/settings-The driver is broken and needs reinstallation / replacement  *I have reinstalled the driver "Conexant Smartaudio HD", same problem after restart  *I have replaced the driver with the "High Definition Audio Device", same problem after restart-There's a sensor in the mini-jack socket whats faulty leading the computer to believe headphones are connected  *I don't know the correct way to go about diagnosing this, but several users on another forum fixed the issue (on different computers) by "poking around" with a toothpick in the audio jack.  Other observations / useful info:The computer does not appear to "know" that there is an issue with the audio. The internal speakers are not disabled, in able to adjust the volume bar. When I connect an external speaker / headphones a dialog box appears where I can chose between Headphones, Headset and Speaker. For th... Read more

Hey people,

So here's my issue, recently took out my laptop HDD and formatted it, NTFS format, and stored stuff on it. Now when I place that in an enclosure and want to use it as an external HDD drive, it doesnt pick up the device.

Through Diskpart I am able to give the drive a letter and access it, but when I "Safely" remove device, the Drive letters remain....

1St problem, Do I need to do anything special to make the Device a Plug and Play ?
2nd Question, am currently consulting google on the matter, HOW do I remove the Drive Letters that I assigned through Diskpart from "My Computer"

Answer:Make Internal HDD to External

Diskpart isn't the easiest way to do so, and I hope that didn't do anything to the drive. The easiest is to assign the drive a letter in Disk Management. But, to back up a bit, is it recognized in Disk Management, first.

Why would you be wanting to do this?
What is the nature of the external IP address? Is it a dynamic IP address - if so you'll have some considerable fun running to keep up!
A little more info wouldn't go amiss - nature of external IP address, type of router (NAT, not NAT)? And again, what is it that needs the two addresses to be the same?

I have had this desktop for years without any issues. I use external speakers connected to the audio jack in the back. Once you plug in external speakers (or headset), the internal speakers get disabled as expected. Last night my PC automatically installed the Windows Anniversary Update (Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607). After this update, now both my internal speakers and external speakers are working at the same time! I cannot seem to disable the internal speakers without also disabling my external speakers. Lowering the volume affects both sets of speakers as well. I tried disabling audio and re-enabling but that didn?t help. How can I get back to my original audio behavior where connecting the external speakers (or headset) to the back 3.5mm jack would automatically disable the internal speakers? Thanks.

We have a Portege R500-11Z running XP and want to use Skype with an external desk microphone and the internal speakers.

How do we use an external mic and still hear the internal speakers?

Answer:Portege R500-11Z: How can use external mic and hear internal speakers

> When we plug the mic into the MIC socket on the Portege, the built-in speakers cut out!
Are you sure you used the Mic port and not headphone port?

Did you check your Skype Audio settings?
There is an option called ?Ring through the Speaker too? or something like that.

Please check also the Realtek HD audio manager in control panel.
There is a tab called Audio I/O.

Usually you can change the connector settings clicking on the small tool/key icon.
Disable the option called ?Mute the rear panel output when front headphone plugged in?

As you see it?s called ?headphone? and not microphone and therefore I?m a little bit confused why the speakers are off when connecting an external mic.

By the way; there is also an tab called Microphone.
Check if both options which reduce the echo and noise are OFF

Hi All,

Please can someone help.

I have a second HDD that - at the moment - is just sitting in my computer (not in any cradle or anything - as I have a Dell Dimension, and they don't like you adding extra bits to their systems) I am thinking of buying one of the HDD cases so that I can turn it into an External drive.

My question is:

I also have an Internal DVD writer, which - again being a Dell computer - I cannot install into my computer (as the drive is wider than the space to put it in the computer). Is it possible to get a case similar to the HDD one to turn it into an External drive (I would buy an External writer, but I haven't got the funds at the moment)

If anyone has any ideas or knows of somewhere I can buy one of these, please let me know.

Apart from doubting, depending on its construction, whether you can do what you require, a new internal CD rewriter is only around £10 to £12 these days and, even better, a DVD rewriter from £18 upwards for the very latest top brand name models.

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

I am sure that I saw the conversion cables somewhere before but I cannot find anything or anywhere to buy it on the net. It would be great if anyone knew what I was talking about and pointed me to a site where I could find something. Thanks.

(by the way the internal hard-drive that I want to connect externally is a normal desktop hard-drive. A similar pic is below)

Answer:Make an 'internal' hard-drive 'external'

Just buy an enclosure.

Is your hard drive SATA or IDE? The one I linked you is SATA.

I have been wanting to get an external hard drive to back up data for both my desktop and my wife's laptop, but they're just so doggone expensive. A friend told me that I can buy an internal hard drive with some sort of a case, get a PCI card with an external SATA hookup, and I'm good. I figure this would be cheaper (and a smaller profile to boot). I've already got Acronis True Image so I don't need any backup software. What do I need to look for when I'm shopping for stuff? I'm looking for at least 300 GB

Answer:Can I make an INTERNAL hard drive EXTERNAL?

Yeah just buy an external HD enclosure and bingo instant portable HD. Most of them use PATA IDE HDs and USB to connect to a PC.

Greetings,I need to make my Seagate Barracuda ST 380011A HDD into an external drive. It is currently a 'slave' on an old computer, want to use it as external drive on new computer. All of the 'enclosures' or 'cradles' I see are identified as being IDE, while the ST 380011A is identified as being ATA.Will any of these IDE 'enclosures' work with this drive? Is this drive what they call a 3.5 inch drive? I am specifically looking at that enclosure work with the ST 380011A ?regards,stevenjs___________________________"I am but an egg."--Stranger in a Strange Land

Answer:Need to make internal HDD into external USB -- exactly what enclosure will work?

IDE/ATA are the same designation...any IDE enclosure will work.

If I plug in external speakers, Realtek asks whether these are external speakers and then these exetrenal speakers work but ALSO the not so good sounding internal speakers.

-> Is there a configuration trick to switch of the internal speakers and only use the external ones?

Thnax 4 support!

Answer:Satellit L555-110 internal speaker won't stop if external speakers are plug

You could change the settings in Realtek audio manager which can be found in control panel.
There should be a tab called I/O or something like that?
At the right you will find the headphone and mic plug? do a right click on headphone plug and check if the option enable internal speakers has been enabled?

I just bought a Dell Inspriron 15 7000 series laptop. I want to use a pair of Altec Lansing desktop speakers with it to listen to music. They are probably about 5 years old and work fine with my ipad and with my older HP laptop that I just replaced. However, when I plug them into the Dell, they make a popping sound and then continue to pop somewhat randomly while I'm playing music. The internal laptop audio works fine on the Dell itself, for videos, PC sounds, etc.
Any idea how to fix this so I can use the speakers? Maybe a different driver? I don't want to screw up the internal sound.

I would like to if it is possible to take the hard drive out and connect it to my other computer externally. The only other issue is the other computer is running on vista. Is it possible to do this?

Answer:Can I make my internal HD external and I change the type of microsoft it runs with?

Yes, you can take that hard drive out of the 2k machine and read it just fine in Vista. What you can't do is take your OS drive from 2k and boot another machine with it, but I don't think that is what you were asking.

Hi all,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32bit) from windows vista. Everything seems to be running smoothly except I can get no sound from the internal laptop speakers. When I plug in external speakers in via the jacks on the front, sound comes through fine, but as soon as I unplug them there is nothing. Headphones also work like this too. Under sounds in device manager, it simply says 'High Definition Audio Device', and I'm not sure if I should be downloading some other drivers?

Any advice is welcome!

Answer:External Speakers work, Laptop speakers do not

What do you have set as your default sound device? Mine is set to my external speakers.

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

I've searched a lot to find how to NOT mute my laptop speakers when I insert something in the audio-out-jack.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:
They're closed, so I can't comment on them.

BUT when I dual boot to Ubuntu (using the same hardware), I can easily choose to mute the internal speakers, or the jack, or none at all. So why can't it be possible on Vista?

Answer:Same audio through laptop speakers and external speakers

You answered your own question... It's a software/OS issue. If Vista's Realtek options in the Control Panel don't give you the same options as in Ubuntu, you're out of luck

Ever since I got my new Dell Vostro 1510 I've noticed that the speakers are well.. lacking to say the least. They're horribly tinny and have no bass whatsoever. My old D600 speakers were much better than these ones.

Is there anyone out there that has upgraded the internal speakers in their laptop before? Do you think this would be a difficult task to accomplish?

I know there are external solutions including headphones and 2.1 systems that would be great but I need something that is just as portable as my laptop by itself with no extra peripherals.

I want to just start off by saying that my current speakers work, I'm just wondering if it is at all possible to find somewhere that sells higher quality ones. For example, purchasing harmon kardon speakers that are the same size as my current speakers. I have no cracked open my laptop to see what type they are yet, because I wanted to see if anyone else has tried this.

My laptop is a Samsung X460I. Any help or input on where or who to find internal speakers from would be greatly appreciated. I watch a lot of movies on this, and the audio quality is subpar and "tinny".

Also I understand that external speakers that sort of hang off a usb are available, but I'm looking for something more permanent.

Answer:Replacing internal laptop speakers?

Hiya pal

I don't think it's worth while trying to change your internal speakers for a couple of reasons.

1. Your going to void your warranty
2. The sound isn't going to improve that much
3. You might do more damage than it's worth

Why not look at a set of bluetooth wireless speakers. Apart from connecting them to your lappy these can double up as a hands free kit for your mobile phone as they have a built in mic & you can also play music from your phone through them. Some of them like this one are rechargeable so they don't even need a permanent power cable. They are quite cheap +- ?25 for the speaker and +- ?5 for a bluetooth adapter.... just a suggestion

Answer:Use internal laptop speakers and jack simultaneously

Probably not possible without actually rewiring your headphone jack, as it has a contact tab that disconnects the speakers when headphones or external speakers are plugged in, the reason being that output voltage for headphones is a fraction of that used for the internal speakers.

I have a Dell Inspiron N4110 to which I have plugged Logitech external speakers. However the Logitech speakers have a short cord with them and a family member is always tripping over the cord. This evening, when they tripped over the cord, the computer fell over off of a short stand where it sits and landed on the floor (a height of about two feet from the floor so not a major tumble). This caused the jack from the external speakers to become unplugged from the computer and when I went to plug it back into the computer (after righting it back to its stand) I saw the metal part of the jack that goes into the computer was bent and looked ready to break off. Since there is no way to replace the cord to the speakers I had to just order another set of speakers from Amazon. My main problem now is that I discovered that for some reason the computer's internal speakers now do not work at all. I don't understand why. There was no problem with them whatsoever before this. I got a flashlight and checked inside the hole (headphones) where the speaker's jack plug into and there is nothing stuck in there but it does look sightly crooked now. The speakers will work if they are plugged in (despite the damaged plug/jack) but the computer' internal speakers now will play no sound whatsoever when unplugging the speakers from the headphones jack. You can only have one default audio playback device, such as your "Speakers" (the PC's sound card and speakers) or some other device such as the USB soundbar, if it sets itself as the default audio playback device.

To make it more weird when I enable the Communications headphones and test them the sound comes out of the speakers and cuts out (since it is a test).i've phoned a friend of mine and he said that maybe the sound is stuck or locked on the headphones. I was playing really bassy hardcore and it popped both speakers on all low frequencies. I've tested them and both have gone. The laptop is out of warranty but still only 2 years old. Everything else is working well. Asked at the shop I bought it from and was told it's cheaper to replace than repair, which could be the case (it's not an expensive model) or they may want the sale and commission. It crossed my mind though if I plugged in external speakers would they work and solve this problem? Buying them would be cheaper than replacing an otherwise ok laptop.

Answer:Help please my Dell laptop(internal speakers) dont work all the time only sometimes

The jack where you plug in your headphones probably turns the speakers
off when the headphones are plugged in.
Over time, this causes wear to the jack and it does not make contact
properly,so the audio is not being passed to th speakers.
You can have the jack replaced(expensive?), or use a set of USB powered
external speakers.
BTW,not a good idea to bang on a laptop.

Hey everyone is there anyway to boost the sound a a laptop? My cousin just got one and he barely can hear his DVDs? is there an amplifier or sumthing in a program i can download? Thanks 4 looking.

Answer:Any way to make laptop speakers louder?

Anyway to make LAPTOP speakers louder?

That's pretty common for laptops. But as long as you checked all the "volume" locations, that's about it as far as I know.

From the speaker icon in the system tray. To control panel audio section, make sure the pan is in the middle, that the speakers are set to stereo speakers, and the main volume slider is all the way. All this can be done from in there. But there is more then one location for volume. Also use the laptop's function keys to up the volume, as this can sometimes be sepparate from Windows control. And lastly the volume of the DVD playing software itself, may also be sepparate.

But as far as I know, there is no such thing as a software amp.

I own a Dell Inspiron 1420 and somehow the built-in laptop speakers won't play any sound at all, including when Windows start up. I run on a Windows Vista.

The audio does work when I plug in headphones to one of the outlet thing but only on one, I have two of those output jacks though.

Answer:Laptop speakers won't play sound at all

Try running the audio tests in Dell Diagnostics. These interactive audio tests are designed to narrow down the problem to either the software or hardware. The tests are independent of Windows and drivers, meaning it doesn't matter if those are working correctly or not. To run Dell Diagnostics1. Restart the computer and tap the f12 key as soon as it starts to boot up . 2. Select 'Diagnostic' from the boot menu. The computer will run its pre-boot assessment tests (PSA) before Dell Diagnostics starts. During the PSA you will hear some tones through the system speaker but this does not adequately test the audio hardware. Dell Diagnostics plays an instrumental piece of music complete with drums, so if you only hear some tones then you have only run the PSA.3. Dell Diagnostics should open after the PSA tests, or you should see an option to open it. If you have ever reformatted your entire hard drive then Dell Diagnostics will no longer be there as an option. In that case run it from the Drivers and Utilities (Resource) CD if you have one.4. Select 'Custom', then the audio tests. (At this point - after you have opened Dell Diagnostic custom - if you can't find the option to select the audio tests that is a symptom of a failed audio chip.)5. The tests will run. Alternate between using headphones and listening to speakers in case only one signal path is working. The tests will play some audio and ask you whether you heard it. 6. If you don't hear the... Dell 5559 i5 6200u with AMD m350 audio crash(audio cracking sound) when power source is changed usually when power shifts to battery. the problem often occurs when watching online videos, like from youtube or Facebook. the sound is choped and terrible noise came with audio from Laptop speakers. But no sound issue when using a plug in device like headphones. or external speakers.
only solution is to restart that application.

Drivers are fully updated.
battery is fully charged.
problem with all web browsers.

Answer:Dell 5559 Audio Crash or /cracking/Choping sound from laptop internal speakers when PowerSource is changed.

Search for sound goto the properties of the speaker now to the advanced tab and select the bitrate '24 bit,48000Hz....or you could just uninstall the audio driver....hope this helps

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

HiI have a lenovo y700 and I have had it for 6 months now.  My speakers recently recently started making a popping or cracking  noise when  I increase the volume ,start a youtube video or play music. This issue is random as it doesnot happen everytime but it happens 7/10 times.  I have tried uninstalling the audio driver and reinstaalling it and that didnt fix the problem. Has anyone else come across the same issue?

Hey guys, so i'm running B10074 on my laptop , and I connected my external display to it as well as my external keyboard and mouse at my desk so I could sit there and do the setup etc without moving all of that out of the way. I had the laptop lid shut and off to the side while I was doing this. Then, I shut the laptop down, unplugged all the external peripherals, and turned it on again. It went through the windows boot sequence with the spinning circles, then black screen. After 20 minutes of frustration, I realised that the laptop would show a login prompt only when I plug in the external monitor BEFORE i start it, and only if the laptop is closed while it is booting (when the lid is closed during boot, the Dell logo and spinning circles come up on the external display)

I further figured out that in Control Panel, it only displays the external display, its like the computer doesn't even recognise the internal display anymore. I dont know why that would be since when I first booted it up and installed drivers, I was using the internal display and everything was working fine.
Any help appreciated as well as pointers on not running into this again

Answer:I connected an external display to my laptop now no internal

I want to clone the internal 10gig drive on my HP Pavilion notebook to an external USB Iomega 40gig Hard Drive.

I have read that I can use Norton Ghost to do this, but can I clone the eentire drive (OS and all?) onto a partition on the external using Ghost?

Since the new drive is much larger, I'd like to clone the existing system in toto to a partition which will go untouched, then add data backups, downloads, etc. to other partitions on the Iomega HDD 40GB.

When I look at Norton's online documentation, it doesn't indicate whether this can be done.

I've also read that Ghost can be a bit daunting for the everyday user. I'm not a computer idiot, but also not a superwhiz. Are there other, more user-friendly programs that can do this? I have looked at Nova Backup site but understand that I need to use a program outside of Windows if I want a truly complete clone.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I plan to purchase a new internal hard drive and transfer my current internal hard drive to an external enclosure. My internal HDD is not broken. Rather, I would like to triple boot XP, Archlinux, and OpenBSD, with Archlinux as my primary OS.

If I choose to boot my computer from the "new external hard drive," will there be any problems? My key concern is that the drive won't be "C:" anymore and that all the shortcuts will be broken.

Answer:Transfering internal laptop HDD to external enclosure?

Are we talking e-sata or usb? I have no experience with Archlinux or OpenBSD, but I know from experience that getting Xp to install to a usb external can be painful. And that once it is installed, it is sluggish when run from a usb connected external.

Xp can still be the C: drive. When I still dual booted Vista and Xp, Both thought that they were installed to the C; drive. When I was in Xp it saw it's own drive as C: and Vista's drive as D: . When I was in Vista it saw it's own drive as C: and Xp's as D: . I just use VM's now and don't remember if it did that by default or not.

Hi all, hope everyone is doing good?

Basically, I have a custom built pc back in the UK which I will be taking apart, as Im selling up everything I have back in the UK. (Moved to Finland last year from UK).

I want to keep my internal 300GB HDD from my custom built PC, and know I can do this, and also know what case I'm going for too, although it will be powered independently, with its own psu rather than USB powered.

Now my question is to you kind people, is, what exactly do I have to do before I can dismantle my custom built PC, and start using the 300GB HDD as an external HDD with my laptop.?

Im sure its not as simple as it sounds.? Just unplug, and fit to external case/housing(which comes with leads etc), and then use with laptop.?

Do I need to install anything on this drive so that everything stored on it can be accessible?

Also, not sure whats installed on there all together right now, although theres loads of photos, and files I need for work etc. My concerns are that some, if not all of the files used from the OS from my custom built pc are in there, which I do not need.

I will of course power up the pc to double check all files etc prior to dismantling, I just need some advice on what is the right way in going about this? The last thing I want to do is remove the 300GB HDD, then then bring it to Finland, and not being able to access anything due to some problems which could of been prevented back in the UK.

Any help, advice, or tips would be greatly appre... Read more

For christmas i got a laptop and i have been having some problems with gaming. I know it is problably not ment to play these games but i was wondering if anyone could help me make it run faster (without lag)? It is a Compaq Presario CQ56-134CA.
It has,
3Gb of Memory
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M (i think this is the problem)
1309MB video memory
320GB Hard Drive

Thanks for your help.

Answer:How to make my laptop run faster to play 3D games like CS:S

you're probably going to have to turn the settings to as low as possible, and see what framerate you get. You can download FRAPS which can tell you the FPS. Then you can scale the settings until you get a frame rate that you're happy with.

Hi guys. My wife bought a new HP laptop. We've hooked up Harmon Kardon's HK695 speaker system (two desktop speakers and a small sub), the same type I have on my PC. When it's running the speakers emit a low-frequency rumble, kinda sounds like audio on a video that's streaming. I tested these speakers on my system and have confirmed they're 100% fine.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong by having them on the laptop, or is there perhaps a step I'm missing? Thanks.

Answer:external speakers not compatible with laptop?

If it were XP I would say check out Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Volume tab, Speaker Settings, Advanced, and after that check settings under the Audio tab. Since it is a laptop I imagine you are using the outlet for headphones and a mini pin-stereo plug. Check connections by removing and replacing and try again. Rumble sounds like interference, possibly speaker placement, or a bad connection.

A friend of mine just got a new toshiba laptop. She wants to use it at home as her only computer and also take it with her on trips etc. She tried to just use a set of bose speakers she also got and they won't work. I'm sure it must need to be changed in the BIOS for using external speakers, but could she use both the internal laptop speakers and the new external ones without changing the BIOS each time? If so, how?

I hope all of you had a nice Christmas.

Windows 8.1
Genuius SW-G2.1 1250 external speakers
ASUS K56CB laptop

When tested on other devices, the sound system blows the roof off. On my laptop, it doesn't (max level on computer controls, media player and speakers knob is lower). I'm pretty sure it's not the soundboard, but I've desperately fiddled with drivers with no avail.
Sound actually starts being heard only after the knob goes past the quarter mark, and does not increase in level too much between 3rd quarter and max setting. Works fine when on my tablet, for example, though.

Edit: Also, volume is lower on right speaker

What is the best method of connecting external speakers to a laptop. Thanks

Answer:Solved: Laptop External Speakers

Depends on the speakers... Usually the 1/8" audio jack. After that, depends on the laptop model too. I can't know what kind of connectors it has...

I just got a Samsung R522 laptop and the speakers are terrible so I've been trying to connect my Altec Lansing speakers (MX5021). I've plugged in the green sound cable into the headphone socket and the speakers are working.

Problem is that the sound isn't how it normally is from my desktop. It sound's fine if for example a song just has piano or guitar alone at the beginning but once the other instruments are on top of each other the quality is terrible and the volume seems to fluctuate.

I'm not sure if I've explained this very well but I am hoping that I can install something or configure settings to make the quality better and use the full potential of the speakers.

Thanks for any help!
