Can't boot up using Safe Mode - XP Antivirus 2012

Question: Can't boot up using Safe Mode - XP Antivirus 2012

Hi all,

Last night my Acer Aspire One became infected with the Xp Antivirus 2012 virus. I have dealt with this once before and suspect it may be from a shared disk I used. Anyways, last time I was able to track the problem down using some tutorials, rkill, malwarebytes and a few other malware removal tools. This time though the damage was done too quickly. By the time I knew it, no programs would launch. I couldn't access the task manager either. My laptop froze and when I tried to reboot I'd get the laptop splash screen and then nothing. I attempted to boot in safe mode and no dice.

My next step was to use Hiren's Bootcd and use Mini Xp to boot up. I was able to do so successfully but once there I was not able to get much done to fix the boot up problem. I tried identifying the problematic system file in the system32/ drivers folder but found none than looked suspicious. There was no oddly named sys file with the size 0kb.

I am at a crossroads. Should I just back my files up (since I can access them with mini Xp) and restore windows to factory settings or do I have a chance to fix this thing?
Thanks!

Chris

Preferred Solution: Can't boot up using Safe Mode - XP Antivirus 2012

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't boot up using Safe Mode - XP Antivirus 2012

You could try to repair your Boot File? This can be done by selecting r when coming into the Disk or onboard Recovery. When asked type in fixboot That should get it booting again, but please, before you do any thing further Post in the "Am I Infected" Forum http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum103.html and include a link to this? Once there you will get expert help on Malware.Ray.

Okay so I am having major problems! Run ning Windows XP First I started getting all these porn popups and nothing made them go away. So I ran a Ccleaner, and Spybot S&D. I was prompted to reboot. I did. when I got to log in screen, it immediately prompted an automatic reboot citing a NT Authority\system reboot. So I rebooted in safe mode with networking, came here and have tried to follow read and run me first. Now every time I try to run SuperAntiSpyware, it starts to run, shows 2 trojans and something else, then stops running and I no longer have access to it. So I tried running malewarebytes (also renamed it mb.exe). Same thing. Starts to run, dissapears then I no longer have access to it. Happened to spy bot S&D. Came here and tried to access the online SuperAntiSpyware. No go. Runs, picks up 2 Trojans and quits working. HELP!!! I can not boot in normal mode.

Answer:Can not boot with out safe mode can not run any antivirus

Not trying to bump, I have an update...

I finally got combofix to work. Ran it. It detected a rootkit. It removed a bunch of infected stuff. This allowed me to boot in normal mode and download/run malewarebytes
I've also attached a couple of logs. Not sure if they are time stamped. But the order of running was
Root repeal last night
CF alog fter running it
Malwarebytes

I still can not run SAS but am actively trying.

Answer:Can not run Antivirus, can only boot in safe mode

You mentioned that you booted into safe mode with networking.
Have you tried regular safe mode?

My dad's flash drive was infected with Antivirus Security Pro, yesterday I plugged it into my laptop and it got infected
I tried to remove it as I did on his computer but I just doesn't let me boot into Safe Mode, as it automatically reboots the system

as I read some things about the virus getting smarter, I've already did those FRST things and here is the log, as I know there's one specific way to do to each user

Hi all, First time here at BleepingComputer.com. I just took a look through some of the forums and it looks like there's a fellow named "Gringo" who is adept at this one and may be able to help me out. I've got a computer that has the Antivirus Security Pro virus on it and it's beating me up pretty badly. I can't boot into safe mode, nor can I load any programs to clean it up. What can I do to get this off my system? Thanks for the help. DK.Edit: Moved topic from Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Software to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

HI GUYS. I badly need help. My PC is acting weird. The symptoms are enumerated below. Suggestions are very much welcome. I found a similar thread with almost the exact symptoms. The guy found a solution. I am really hope I'll find mine. Please do take time to read my post.

SYMPTOMS:
I first found out about the infection about two days after the internet connection at home was restored.(My provider had a routine maintenance check up for the lines in my neighborhood.) I can't really say when is the exact date of the attack. So here is a list of symptoms of the infection/attack?.

1. McAfee anti virus stopped working.

2. Can't install anti virus. Tried to install other anti virus. The list includes AVG, Kaspersky, and Nod 32 but all failed.

3. The IE and opera browsers does not work but firefox is fine.

4. Can't connect to Yahoo! Messenger. Prompts a message telling to try again. Every time I do, it prompts the message again.

5. Can't boot in safe mode. When I try to boot in safe mode, it loads all the drivers and reboots again. Normal mode is fine.

WHAT I TRIED TO DO:

Note: Since my pc is sooooooooo slow, I reformatted my pc hoping the problem would go away. Unfortunately, it didn't do anything good with regards to the infection. It did make my pc a little bit faster though. Also, I can now use the opera and ie. Still, the problems persist.

1. Installed SuperAntiSpyware. Scanned pc and detected infections. The Lo... Read more

Answer:can't boot in safe mode; can't install antivirus

Assuming you are trying to run the Read and RUn First instructions, you don't mention whether you tried running ComboFix and MGTools......we need more than just the SAS log to see what is happening in your system.

And yes, I would advise staying off the web (physically disconnect) until you have to attach logs here.

Hi,

I am facing a major virus problem with my system. Task manager, registry edit and folder options of my operating system got disabled and also I am unable to boot in safe mode. If I press F8 and chose Safe Mode (with networking or any other option), pc is getting restarted again so again I had to start my pc normally.

I downloaded avira and avast and when I tried to install them, installations were being closed at the starting without any prompt messages. While googling, I came to see this forum I had downloaded hijackthis and here is my log.

Ok. I've read all these threads regarding this horrible malware. Yesterday i noticed I was infected with this antivirus pro 2010. The computer wouldn't allow me to do much so i tried to reboot in safe mode. That was the last time I was inside Windows xp operating system. Now I can't get in through safe mode, normal mode or anything else. My computer boots just up to the Windows Xp logon screen and then shows the fastest blue screen and reboots. It repeats this cycle endless times. The last thing I tried was using the Windows xp cd to repair. Unfortunately it tells me the partition1 is (unknown) so they want to format my drive and reinstall. I'm trying to recover files on this laptop. BTW its a Compaq Presario. I even tried the recovery console to simply get a prompt and my c: drive wasn't even listed. Only some D:\MinNt

Help Please!

Answer:Antivirus Security Pro problems (can't boot into safe mode)

Can't boot in Safe Mode with Networking? (Antivirus Security Pro Virus blocks Safe Mode with Networking)
If you have more than one user account in your operating system - please log-in to the clean account and download the recommended anti-spyware software, install it and run a full system scan, remove all the security infections it will detect, however if you have only one user account please follow this guide (this guide will show you how to create a new user account using safe mode with command prompt - using this newly created user account you will be able to remove Antivirus Security Pro virus).
If Antivirus Security Pro virus also blocks your operating system's Safe Mode with Networking follow these removal instructions:
1. Start your computer in Safe Mode with Command Prompt - During your computer starting process press F8 key on your keyboard multiple times until Windows Advanced Options menu shows up, then select Safe mode with command prompt from the list and press ENTER.

2. When command prompt mode loads enter the following line: net user removevirus /add and press ENTER.

3. Next enter this line: net localgroup administrators removevirus /add and press ENTER.

4. Finnaly enter this line: shutdown -r and press ENTER.

5. Wait for your computer to restart,  then boot your PC in Normal Mode and login to the newly created user account ("removevirus"). This account won't be affected by the infection and you will be able to downlo... Read more

I'm at my wits end here. I'm infected with at least Virtuomonde and Smitfraud. Here is what's happening.

All antivirus and HJT that I've tried (spybot, HJT, Avast, etc) start to run and then die. When I try to restart I get a dialog box that says, cannot access, file, drive, path--you may have insufficient rights.

clicking on browser links redirects to a random page.

booting in safe mode gives me a quick BSD and then starts over

Active desktop has died--I deleted an html "warning" image from the recovery console on a Win XP CD.

Can ANYBODY help or am I doomed to reformatting?

Currently running Win XP Home Edition--SP-3

Thanks so much!

Chuck

Running XP Pro, infected with Antivirus Action. Cannot run any tools as I cannot boot into safe mode. Safebootkey won't run, rkill won't run and malwarebytes won't run. Can't open regedit or cmd.

Help, please!

Answer:Antivirus Action infection; unable to boot in safe mode

Hello, First I will move this to the Am I Infected forum. Now let's see if we can do this by logging into a different user account ,not your regular one. I'm thinking we can do safe mode from there.Do you have SUPERAntispyware installed? Please follow our Removal Guide here Remove Antivirus Action (Uninstall Guide) [/url] .You will move to the Automated Removal InstructionsAfter you completed that, post your scan log here, let me know how things are.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

Hi,

I am infected with the System Care Antivirus on a Windows XP machine. When I try to boot into Safe Mode (both with or w/out Networking), I get a Windows blue screen of death. I have removal instructions that I can follow, but those depend on launching Safe Mode. Any suggestions? Is there a rescue disc that I could try?

[Note: The machine does boot into normal Windows mode].

Thanks!

Hi, yesterday I got hit with the Antivirus System pro / Netguard 2010 virus. As I tried to fix it, it was like peeling an onion. More problems continued to emerge. Here is a run down:

My system briefly is a Dell notebook running XP.

What I've done so far is basically the 8-step virus/spyware removal plan on techspot.com with a few other things mixed in. I started off by running rkill. Then I installed and ran Malware Bytes Anti-Malware.

The name of my virus process was nstxsysguard.exe. Other posts have indicated that the 4 letter prefix is random. I located an NSTXSYSGUARD.EXE process in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch and deleted it manually. It was also in C:\Documents and Settings\James\Local Settings\Application Data\tcwrwl

Then I ran the 8-step process (minus generating hijackthis log):
-Installed and ran ccleaner twice.
- Temporarily disabled AVG resident shield
- Ran Malware Bytes Anti-Malware again
- Installed and ran SuperAntiSpyware free ed

Here is my current set of symptoms:
(1) Google redirect problem - when clicking on google links, get directed to unwanted sites, some with other viruses/malware
(2) There is a process called CLI.exe running that constantly takes up 50% cpu. Easy enough to kill it but no antivirus or spyware program finds and gets rid of it.
(3) When I boot up in safe mode, I immediately get a blue screen and can't do anything else, forcing me to only boot in normal mode. The blue screen looks weird -... Read more

Answer:related problems? antivirus system pro, google redirect, blue screen on safe mode boot

Hey James, I'm having the same issue with the odd blue screen and it started on the 28th, yesterday, I'm not sure where it came from but all I remember doing was DL'ing Google Chrome and I had one BitTorrent going. When I try to start normally I get a BSOD with the stop error 0x00000024. I was thinking about running through and restoring the registry but I'm not totally confident with myself to attempt changing flies and such. Also, like a moron, I restarted while the fake spy protection thing was running and didnt do the 8 steps like you, so I have no access to the start screen even w/ normal mode. Please help! Anyone. -Dylan M.Edit: I found this http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...irus-system-proThat might help you, but it doesnt for me because I cant get past the windows XP loading screen

This morning we had a power outage and when I turned my computer back on, it would not boot. I tried several times to hard boot, with no luck. Then I tried safe mode. Ran an antivirus scan and it showed malware and several infections which it cleaned. The computer still would not boot normally. I then ran chkdsk, still would not boot normally. I have ran malware bytes, registry repair and the registry defrag program as well as done a disk clean up. It still will not boot in normal mode.
Since my last problems that you helped me with, I have upgraded to a broadband internet connection and have a home network. The 2 other computers on the network are fine.
A week ago, I had purchased Avast internet security and had problems immediately. It would not allow me to connect to the internet. That was uninstalled and I went back to the free Avast antivirus, Zone alarm and Spyware blaster. I was very unhappy with Avast customer service and support iYogi and decided I did not want Avast on my computer at all. I have since downloaded PC tools free antivirus. Once I have my computer operational again, I am open to suggestions.
Fortunately, I did not change anything on the other 2 computers. Just mine.
Running Windows XP 3 .
Thank you.

Alright this is a family's laptop that is about 5 or even more years old...has windows xp on it dont know the exact one -.-...alright.

My sister has been using it and says she has never done anything to it...which i dont believe but anyways this computer will not boot up what so ever...everytime you power it on it goes to the screen that says unexpected error software/hardware problem yada yada yada...and then it gives you the options of boot in safe mode, safe mode networking, safe mode command prompt, last known good configuration...and none of those will work...we do have the recovery disks to wipe it but are trying to find a better way if possible...and when you try to load into any of the safe mode choices it stops at multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys...will stay at that for about 5-10 mins and then just turn off...if you try to just do normal mode or last known configuration it just acts like it loads with the windows and the little green loading bar then shuts off...the more i type the more i think the harddrive is toast but im new and learning so i probably could be wrong. Just looking for suggestions =)

Oh and this pc will run very hot...so if its a hardware issue i would not be surprised.

Answer:HP Pavilion will not boot in safe, safe w/networking, safe command or in normal mode

Can't boot into Normal/Safe Mode with Networking, only safe mode...
Good Evening,I could do with some pointers on resolving an issue. I can only boot into windows in safe mode in Windows 10. Normal mode and safe mode with networking doesn't work. The problem occurred after a windows update. I have removed the latest updates that were installed and cleared any pending ones but it still won't boot properly. I have also run the troubleshooter and tried to recovery to an earlier date which also doesn't work. The laptop is a HP ENVY 17 notebook. At boot it just gets to the HP logo with the circular loading icon and no further and can only boot it into safe mode. Can anyone recommend the next steps? I have also tried the following;stopping startup items
uninstalling hardware drivers
removing recent software
running troubleshooters at boot
sfc scan
diagnostic/selective startups with minimal services running
Would the fact that I cant boot into Safe Mode with Networking imply its a network driver related issue?Bit of a dead end really, any help would be much appreciatedKind regardsTrevor

Answer:Can't boot into Normal/Safe Mode with Networking, only safe mode...

It's uncertain what the problem is - although a networking problem does sound likely.
Start with trying a clean boot:
Perform a Clean Boot:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/what-is-clean-boot-state-in-windows
If that stops the problem, then re-enable things a few at a time until you figure out what's causing it.
Then uninstall the problem program (from Start...Settings...Apps...Apps & Features - if you don't find it there, check the right sidebar for Programs and Features and see if you can remove it from there).

Let us know what happens there and we'll move on from there if needed.

Answer:Can't boot into Normal/Safe Mode with Networking, only safe mode...

Hi Trevor and welcome to Tenforums. There are several ways to approach your problem. When I was reading your post, my initial impression was the same as yours, the Network driver was causing your issue. To be safe, go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features uninstall a program and sort the drivers by date installed. See which drivers were installed at the time you began having the problem. If you find any, I think it would be safe to assume the problem would be one of them. If you have another computer, go to the HP website for your model computer and download those drivers to a USB Flash Drive. Do one at a time and install the drivers you just downloaded and reboot until you find the offending driver. I would do this one at a time so you will know which driver it is in case Windows Update decides to install it again. See if that will work for you.

I have a yoga tablet 2 pro. I powered down the tablet one night. In the morning, I normally held down the power button for no more than 2 or 3 seconds to power it up agian until I saw the lenovo logo. Everything was going well, but then it went to an android reboot screen. I never took any action to reboot my tablet, but the screen popped up anyways. I didn't want to reboot my tablet, so I selected the "power off" selection on the reboot screen. It powered off, and then took me back to the reboot screen. I selected the same option once more, but I got the same results. I decided to end the nonsense and just reboot. It wasn't going to hurt anything. When I did, it took me to my home screen where all my apps were gone. I noticed my tablet was then on safe mode. I researched what it was. I'm not sure why safe mode even exists or why it is on my tablet, but I can't get to any of my apps. So I decided to restart my tablet, but after it restarted, I was still on safe mode. I looked up how to take your tablet off safe mode, and all the info I got was to either power off your tablet or restart it and your tablet would be off safe mode. So I restarted it again...still didn't work. I then powered it off again and it took me back to the reboot screen. I have done this multiple times selecting every option on the reboot screen and nothing has seemed to work. I also powered it off and left it over night but that didn't work either. I even tried to power it off, then turn it back on while ... Read more

Windows just downloaded an update to my ASUS x83V laptop and now I can't get it to boot up. I've tried booting in normal mode, last successful mode, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt and nothing works.

If trying to boot in safe mode it gets stuck on crcdisk.sys. When trying to boot in any mode it eventually hits the blue screen with a STOP error of 0x0000001E. I have also gotten 0x0000007E and 0x00000024.

I am positive it's the latest Windows Update that caused this because my computer at work, which also runs on Vista and is also an ASUS, had an update yesterday. When I came into work this morning and tried to start up it was unable to and did a start up repair. That didn't work but it gave me a system restore option which did work.

Unfortunately my ASUS laptop does not prompt me to do a repair nor a system restore. The recovery disk I have that came with the laptop only allows me to do a restore which erases everything on my HD.

I'm only somewhat computer savvy; better at working with them than fixing them so please try to put things in layman's terms. Thank you!

Hi

I downloaded dodgy file last week. Afterwards my antivirus (Vodafone PC Protection) wouldn't run normally or in safe mode. Neither would AVG or malwarebytes. Before malwarebytes stopped its scan I glimpsed a message saying something like boot files hidden.

I decided to reinstall OS using drive partition.

Everything seemed fine until yesterday when I found a message saying the laptop had just recovered from a blue screen crash. Then this morning everything froze on startup.

I can currently boot in safe mode but I can't run the antivirus.

I've just run Kaspersky TDSSKiller in safemode and when I included 'Loaded Modules' among objects to scan it reboots to normal, bypassing safe mode, then freezes at 75% installation of the Kaspersky utility. I can't copy and past the report.

I guess my partition drive must have been infected as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

My problem is somewhat complex so please bear with me. I had malware and adware on my laptop which was really annoying and I tried really hard to get rid of it. So I decided I was going to do a system restore. The system restore kept saying "System restore is initializing". I tried it three times and it didn't work. I looked around on the internet, and someone suggested to do the system restore while in safe mode. This is where I made my mistake. I set safe mode in msconfig.exe (not knowing you could go into safe mode while booting). msconfig forces the computer to boot into safe mode everytime, but my safe mode won't boot. I get a b;ack screen with a cursor. I have noticed that the cursor gets reset to the middle of the screen every five seconds or so. I also see the words safe mode flash in all four corners sometimes. I have tried re-installing windows 8.1 from a bootable usb, but whenever I change the boot priority, it doesn't seem to save my settings. Please tell me what my options are. Will replacing my hard drive do the trick. Thank you in advance.

Answer:I set safe mode in msconfig.exe and safe mode won't boot.

Can you restart and get into your log in screen ? If you can, enter safe mode by pressing the power button icon (lower right corner) then Shift + restart. That gets you to Advanced Settings where Safe Mode and, if that fails, Reset PC to orig settings. If you can't, try a hard reset by removing battery and all external usb attachments and then pressing and holding power button until it shuts down. Repeat a few more times to drain memory, then see if powering up will get you to log on screen.

A system restore in safe mode will just restore the malware. You need to boot into safe mode and run your anti-virus or malware program and have them quarantine and then remove them while in safe mode. Use Malwarebytes free or Adwcleaner or Hitman to clean the system. If that does the trick, manually create a system restore point that you know is clean after the system is to your satisfaction.

I detected various trojans etc so ran a registry cleaner but some still remained so i booted into safe mode and ran a deep scan with Dr Web and cured issues but suddenly i got a blue error screen "crql not less or equal",that old chestnut!
My system would not boot into Windows (Xp prof. corporate) and after lots of various attempts decided yo try and "repair" Windows via the installation disk option. So off it went, copying all files etc. but then only got to a certain point and was halted with a message stating Disk 0 at i.d. 0 at bus 0 and something atapi
(sorry,it moved so quick i didnt write it all down but there was not much more than ive mentioned).Again after several attempts with nothing i started taking drastic action and decided to just try a full re-install after formating the drive but again it would not let me.
To cut a long story short,my pc boots up and gets to the initial "Windows Xp" loading bar but then freezes and reboots and does this in and endless cycle! I cant reinstall Cause it wont let me and there seems to be nothing in the Bios menu that can help???
I dont know what else i can try,how do i get Windows running again if it point blank refuses? I know it is only through stupidity that i have erased something important but i dont understand why it would prevent me doing a restore/repair or full reinstallation and i have had a fair few problems over the years but nothing like this, that simply prevents me from accessing an... I have a host of problem that have developed of late. I installed a file conversion program called Audio Convert and during the install some odd 'windows related" messages came up. Awhile ago you helpedme solve an issue regarding a "No Disk" error. You saw that I had no antivirus engine and I've been tring with my IS{P to get their program working but still have had no luck, you suggested AVG and I tried and failed to get it to install and load properly. After that little incident recently, I've lost my "Run" button, after clicking stat, I ahve no Shut Down/REstart buttons, instead I have a switch user button. I lost my Msconfig, and can't restart in safe mode, in any of them, the computer goes into a restart.

I've got an HP Pavillion m7480n, P4 930, 2G of RAm, Wndow XP Media Center Edition, it's 2 months old

Can you help?

Hi, i am new to this forum and i have a pretty big problem with my computer. Dell Dimension 4550, windows xp home edition, service pack 3.

I first encountered the problem when i was bombarded by a ton of popups of random things in internet explorer, but i use opera as my main browser. so that was odd. The popups then turned into an automatic installation that looked to be authentic windows security center, but was a fake, and i could do nothing about it. if i ended the process, another would start.

The popups have now stopped, i ran superantispyware and found many viruses. I fixed all, but when i log onto windows, i get error messages of missing .dll files: ntuser.dll, calc.dll, sinuvili.dll, pofutuva.dll.

Another problem is my safe mode. when i attempt to run, a blue screen appears stating that windows has shutdown to prevent damage to computer, and at the bottom of screen i see: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7A46528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I saw in another forum that to fix this, i could boot from the original xp disc, select "R" to repair, and enter "CHKDSK /R". I tried this, but nothing happened.

Another observation is my computer clock, it has changed to military time.

I have now tried to run a HIJACK THIS log, but i wasn't able to. So i ran rsit.exe, and came up with the attached log file.

Can someone please look over the log file and tell me if there is anything i can do? i am lost when it comes to this.

Thank you, ... Read more

If i restart in safe mode and run an antivirus scan with the AV installed on my PC, is that as good a scan compared to scanning in normal mode. (Do scans in safe mode miss anything that a scan in normal mode would pick up?)

Answer:AntiVirus scan in safe mode

you need to scan in normal mode not everything is running in safe mode

As I stated on my other post, my computer has been formatted for a month now. I?m using windows XP. My main antivirus (McAfee) just can?t complete a whole scan without the pc restarting by itself. It happens with all antivirus and anti malwares and some other kind of programs too. I just don?t know what to do anymore.

On the other post someone told me to try my scans on safe mode. McAfee restarted, SpyBot closed and couldn?t get open again and stinger had to close. Only hijack worked all the way through. I have disabled windows restore.

Hi,
I have an infected windows XP SP2 pc.
I do not have any active antivirus software on this pc ( ESET NOD32 is expired).
1. I tried downloading a few free antivirus softwares like avira/avg/avast/MSE but was unsuccessful as -
a) either they do not support sp2 or
b) on clicking download the page does not load
2. I have tried running online antivirus softwares like bitdefender (cannot load) and ESET (after running the activeX control tried downloading the .cab file but nothing happened)

Following is the info from SysInfo -

Be sure to read the information in these threads about Windows XP risks and options:
Derek's post here is a view of the risks : End of Support For Windows XP
You have already taken this risk with an SP2 machine, and lost the bet.
My post concentrates on software options for saving the machine: Windows XP - The Elephant In The Room
Read it very carefully.
Your machine will support the simplest of Linux systems, but really will not be satisfactory with ANY of the newer Windows.
I don't think trying to Fix this will produce a good result.
Almost all of our Fixing tools actually require XP Service Pack 3 to work, and installing Service pack 3 on an infected machine will usually fail or produce an unstable system.
This may be why the programs you are trying to use don't work.
Windows SP3 came out in 2008, and Support for SP2 ended in 2010.

Hi

I am new to this forum and came across this great resource by googling . I got my Sony VaIO laptop infected with the Win 7 2012 fake antivirus along with a combination of google redirect virus.I followed some of the advice given online and used TDSSkiller along with Malware Bytes and Combofix. The malwarebytes and TDSSKiller worked well. The combofix seemed to run in compatibility well and then the system crashed . I have access to a Windows 7 CD and tried all three options of system restore, restore through image and startup repair but the system is not able to perform the repair operation or restore.

After searching some of the threads on this forum came across the Farbar system recovery tool and decided to run it from the command prompt. To save time I scanned it using the FRST tool.Below is the scan log.....I realize should not have run the combofix without supervision .Kindly guide me as soon as possible in getting the system to boot and possibly remove any traces of the malware that might be left.

Really weird issue. My computer locked up and restarted when I was playing Battlefield 3, not sure why. Then it didn't want to boot up for some reason. Eventually I got an error message about a disk i/o error. I assume this is due to a corrupted USB that was connected to the PC. When I removed that I was able to boot into normal mode, but not into safe mode. I didn't like this, so I went msconfig -> boot -> Safe Boot. And now every time I try to boot, no matter whether I select normal or safe mode, it tries to boot into safe mode and fails.

It gives me the menu, shows a screen loading all the system files and then says "Booting in safemode - Minimal Services". Then my monitor says "no signal" and remains black. Things are still plugged in - tapping numkey makes the light go on and off on the keyboard - but I can't actually DO anything. And now there's no way I can see to boot into normal mode.

What do I do?

Answer:Windows 7 won't boot into safe mode, WILL boot into normal mode

I just tried putting in the Windows Install disc, to try and launch the Recovery Console, but I only got 4 options on the boot up screen. 3 variations of safe mode and one "start normally" (which due to my msconfig edits means safe mode, minimal). Tried downloading a W7 64bit repair disc ISO, burnt that.. same deal.

Hi guys. Trying to fix the parents windows XP media center computer which got hit with this beauty of a malware, XP Security 2012. I guess I have to take the blame for it because I was using the computer at the time, browsing some perfectly legit websites with firefox. I don't maintain the thing so I guess java or flash or something must have been out of date, was planning to check after cleaning the malware off, but that has proved easier said than done. I've cleaned a lot of this type of malware from PCs before, but this situation is new to me.

So the thing came up, I hopped on another computer and found this guide: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-xp-security-2012. I downloaded and ran the fixncr.reg, and used rkill (iexplore.exe) to shut down the process and that seemed to work. I proceeded to install malwarebytes (looking at the guide now, I apparently missed the step to run TDSSkiller, oops), it updated ok, and I started a full scan. While it was scanning I saw a ping.exe exception error. It was running for over 2 hours before I went to bed figuring I'd finish it up in the morning (at this point it had only found 1 bad file).

In the morning, the PC had gone into some kind of sleep mode which I couldn't get it to wake up from. So I powered it off and started back up. Now it gives a BSOD every time, normal and safe mode. It's STOP 0x0000007b (0xF78A2528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I tried running fixmbr and fixboot from ... Read more

Hello my name is Austin,

As many other posters this past month, my father recently got infected with the Antivirus Security Pro Malware. I built this computer 8 months ago for my father, so I'm almost responsible for anything wrong with it. I'm a novice at most programming lingo, but I am really good at following processes, as it's what I do for a living. I WILL be donating to the person helping, my father needs his computer to do work this weekend. So before we start this process, I want to say "Thank You" in advance.

Any way, I tried doing the bleepingcomputer.com solution for the malware, but I have not been able to enter safe mode (shuts down soon after log in).

I read a post today on the first step of run the frst.exe file in the infected computer. Please let me know if you prefer for me to paste the report results within my post or attach the file. Here are the text results:

Thanks for the FRST report. I am presuming it was run from a USB pen drive.

Let's see if the following works for you to remove the Antivirus Security Pro Malware ...

Please open Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
Copy the entire contents of the code box below
Save it to the USB pen drive, and name it: fixlist.txt

start
HKLM\...\Run: [MSC] - "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\mssecex.exe" -hide -runkey
HKLM-x32\...\Run: [] - [x]

C:\Users\RichardRice\AppData\Local\Google\Desktop\Install
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Desktop\Install
C:\ProgramData\pvqdkqkjvbllroblbxh.reg
end

Once again, run FRST64 as you did before.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Now, press the Fix button, just once, and wait.

When done, FRST produces Fixlog.txt on the USB pen drive.

>> Please provide the Fixlog.txt on your reply.

If (which I doubt) the computer is still under the 'spell' of the Antivirus Security Pro Malware, look for its shortcut on your Desktop .
Next, go to Control Panel > Folder Options

Click: Apply > OK

Right click on the Antivirus Security Pro icon on... Read more

We have a user who got the Antivirus Security Pro virus and I'm trying to remove it. All "how-tos" say to boot into safe mode, but this version of the virus won't allow me to do so, either with command prompt, networking or without. Without safe mode, I'm not sure how I'll be able to remove it. Any ideas would be great.

If nessesary, could I install antivirus software like Norton on my computer using Safe Mode? Note that it is likely I have been infected.

If you need anymore information, please feel free to ask.

EDIT: Also know that recently my computer had been randomly freezing in the past three weeks. I remember I stumbled onto a website where it suddenly told me that 'MY COMPUTER WAS INFECTED'. From experience I knew it was spyware, and instead of saying YES or NO on the warning popup, I clicked the X. Norton immeditely told me I was infected and tried 5 times to remove it. Then the warnings from Norton stopped, thinking that it finally got the trojan.

I am running using Dell Inspiron with windows vista. A couple days ago, I got on the computer and then it froze, at fist the program I was using froze, and then I got a circle next to the arrow, but could still move the arrow, then the arrow stops moving. CTL ALT DEL does not work, so i must do a hard reboot, try to boot in safe mode and all the files come up but then it goes no where and the computer either restarts or I reboot it.

I have run all types of tests and nothing comes up. Today I got the blue screen of death twice, but after reboot, it goes away. I do not have a Boot Disk and have tried all the tests in the F8 command. Currently I am running an expanded memory test, but figured I would get this out there before I go insane.

Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated.

Hello all
First time poster with problem after peforming sys restore on win7 pro 64bit.
Was troubleshooting a problem w/taskbar not staying hidden, tried to restore back 24hrs to when a java update occured. Restore seemed to proceed normally, but upon restart, it boots normally to just before the login screen would appear, then the screen goes black and all that is visible is the cursor , which I can still move.
But that's as far as it gets. Trying to boot in safe mode, or repair mode ends exact same way - can't boot in to try anything
Any ideas??

Answer:Black screen at boot with safe mode, system restore, or repair mode

no one has any suggestions? I also triedtoboot to my win7 dvd to see if I could attempt to repair but again, it only gets thru the windows bootscreen then goes black with only the mouse cursor showing as before.

Hi, today I decided to restart my PC but it got stuck at the "logging off" screen, so I just held down power button to turn it off.
When I tried turning it back on, it got stuck at the windows logo. Safe-mode won't work, nor will system recovery.Note: I had not made any hardware changes in the past 3 years. I also don't think I have made any big software changes in the past couple of weeks.

What I was doing before I decided to reboot:
I was reinstalling different versions of firefox because I was having flash issues (FF and Flash arent very compatible on some of the newer FF versions)

So I installed 30.0 and it asked me reboot to finish the installation and here I am. I don't think it's related, might be just a coincidence.

Full details of what is happening:
Normal boot-up freezes at the windows7 logo. The animation freezes too. PC does not auto re-boot.
Safe-mode gets stuck while loading components. Notably at storport.sys (not sure if I spelt that right) PC does not auto re-boot.
System recovery freezes after a while during the © Mircosoft Corporation screen with green loading bar. PC does not auto re-boot.
The little light that flickers when the PC is doing something is not lighting up during the loading screens. It flickers for the first couple of seconds and then just stops (or very faintly flicks every 3-4 secs) The loading screen animation then freezes after ~10-15 seconds.

Answer:BSOD when trying to boot in normal mode, safe mode works fine

You may need to run SFC up to 3 times for it to have a chance to repair all files.

If it won't then you can consider a Repair Install.

However be aware that factory preinstalled Win7 is one of the worst possible installs of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilties that intefere with better versions built into Win7. So I would strongly consider doing the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you decide to try to repair you can also capture the BSOD file and post it up for one of our BSOD analysts as shown here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 Forums

Win 7 Normal Mode won't start, will go past Starting up Screen and just hit a Black screen and will hit a Crash Dump (blue error screen)..... I can boot into safe mode fine and I have fun CHKSDK and after a reboot it fixed a few problems but I hit the same Crash Dump Screen. I have also made sure my whole pc is all clean and connected, no corroding parts etc etc, made sure my pci-e slot is default etc etc, no luck at all...

Its a new installation and worked fine last night and early this morning after separate boots. But as soon as I booted this afternoon it wouldn't load and would hit the blue error crash dump screen....

So any suggestions?

Just last night My main HDD died also which is why I had to use my secondary HDD as my main....

Hi,
I am using Compaq Pressario P4 PC with ?Windows XP Home edition? Operating System installed on it. The issue that I am facing is as follows:
- One day, audio was not working with PC. My hard disk drive was close to full, so, I thought of uninstalling couple of unnecessary programs. While doing so, I stopped uninstallation in middle by pressing back button, then, uninstallation process hanged. After that I also tried rollback of soundMAX digital audio driver and again I selected back button and this also hanged. Please note that I had inserted the restore CD in upper CD drive to search the audio driver file. Then, I started the computer through hard reset. After that first it went in restore mode, exited that, Windows Logo came and after that there was just a blinking cursor at top left corner and nothing would happen after that.
- Then I called one PC technician for data recovery from my hard drive. He took my hardrive out of the PC and connected it via USB adaptor to my laptop. The hard drive could be detected and we started data copying from hard drive to laptop. However after every 3-4 minutes, hard drive used to hang and then we had to take out the hard drive cable, again reconnect. This we repeated multiple times to recover the important data from my hard drive.
- After that, hard drive was re-inserted in the PC. Since, after restart PC was not booting up (Windows Logo came and after that there was just a blinking cursor at top left corner ... Read more

Answer:PC doesn't boot in normal mode even after OS reinstallation, though, boots in safe mode

Yes, the hard drive may have become faulty and unreliable and therfore will soon fail completely. For confirmation, test it with the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS.
The links are here: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

In Safe Mode, no third-party drivers are loaded. In Normal Mode, all those extra drivers being accessed on an already flakey drive is causing it to crash.

Hi there, I'm trying to fix my Aunt's windows XP computer. I downloaded MBAM as she had previously mentioned getting a call on the phone from someone in India telling her she needed to pay $160 for her antivirus or her computer would shut down.

I ran MBAM and it took about 8 hours to scan, and at the very end found a bunch of results. I told it to get rid of them, and then restarted. Upon restarting, it also ran a disk check, and after that finished, it booted up but took forever to load. Upon loading the taskbar showed up for a brief moment, then disappeared, and I can't seem to get it to run from the task manager either. It brings up the explorer.exe process briefly, then without ever loading the taskbar, it ends the process.

I got a bit worried at this point and tried to restart in safe mode. However, when I do that, it loads a bunch of drivers and then stops. It never finishes loading. (this happens in safe mode with and without networking)

I also tried restarting back into normal mode and running avast through command prompts, but it doesn't do anything and I also got errors stating that a particular file is missing.

What should I do next? I was going to attempt running combofix from my flash drive, but when I try to CD into the drive, it says the drive isn't ready. If you have any suggestions on what to do, let me know, thanks.

Answer:Unable to boot in safe mode, explorer.exe not loading in normal mode

Do not run combofix, let me ask someone to help you

good luck

MALWARE issues!!!I was having trouble staying in SAFEMODE to try to do some cleanup on my Laptop. The malware prevented my getting into safe mode and would cause the pc to just reboot normally. Because of this, I went into the msconfig>system config utility > boot.ini> then placed a check in the safemode box. I rebooted. Now its worse because it is now stuck with the BLACK screen safe mode choices. But It still wont go into safe mode and wont even reboot normally to reg windows mode.It trys to reboot on its own after a countdown of 30 seconds. But a blue screen quickly flashes once. Then it tries to reboot over and over again no matter which option I pick (last known config, safe mode networking, safe mode, safe with command, etc), it just tries to reboot over and over again like a broken record.I can get into phoenix BIOS by pushing F10 (or F12 I think), but I dont know what I can do there. At this point, i just want my pc to be able to boot normally into Window, and I will see what I can do in reg windows mode as far as cleaning the malware off my pc.Please help in easy terms. Thanks for your help in advance...PS: Windows Home edition OEM sp2 IE7-HP pavillion 8100 laptop-I have the original sealed discs that came with my 4 or so year old Laptop.I just need to be walked step by step if I need to boot from them. Let me open by saying I'm too old to understand most of the jargon and directions found in a technical forum like this. I've been trying to fix this myself for about two weeks, and have made so many changes, I've probably made a complete hash of it.

The latest thing I did was to attempt a fresh install of Windows from a DVD. I had to format the C drive to have enough space for the installation, so I did. The installation seemed to running normally, so I took our dog for a walk. When I came back, there was this error message: "Installation was cancelled."

The details of the error message are as follows: "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restate the installation. Error code: 0x80070070"

My fear is that my hard drive has failed. When it's trying to boot up, there's always a line that says something to the effect that no drives were found. However, when running GPart from a disc, it finds both C & D. I tried to use one of the GPart tools to repair C, but it didn't work. It said I need to "Run chkdsk /f, the reboot TWICE." I can't do that, because I can't get it to boot into a command prompt.

I think I already destroyed all of my data on D, where it was all stored, in trying to install Windows. At one point, it told me that Windows could not proceed with formatting if D was excluded, so I removed the exclusion. I think that was a bad mistake.

Answer:Windows crashed. Now can't boot, even in repair mode or safe mode.

You did a few smart things. So do not despair.

As a first measure I would try to save as much of your data as possible. Since you have the Xubuntu disc, try that.

Then you really should run the chkdsk /f. If you load your installation disk and go to "Repair this Computer" (or something like that), there should be a Command Prompt.

If that is all done, try to reinstall again and come back to let us know how you are doing.

I managed to run ad-adaware with the latest defs once, did a preboot scan with avast, then booted into normal mode. I tried to install the lastest defs for spybot S&D, and got this error message:

the installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.

Upon reboot, the system freezes before the desktop finishes loading. I can still boot into safe mode, but running any scan, ad-aware or spybotS&D, causes a system freeze. Here is the HJT log:

I'm new to this forum and not a very sophisticated user, but help would be appreciated. I am running Windows XP (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.080814-1233: Service Pack2). My computer froze and I had to hold power button to shut down. Shortly before I froze a window popped open to tell me that windows security firewall had been changed to off. I switched it back to on, but then the computer froze up a few minutes later. When I try to boot in normal mode I can log-in, but about 3 seconds after I see my desktop the screen goes black and I need to hold the power button down to turn off. I am only able to boot in safe mode. I have run spybot and adaware in safe mode and they find 'Virtumonde'. Spybot also finds 'MicrosoftWindowsSecurityCenter_disabled'. I correct/fix these problems in the software, but when I reboot nothing has changed and when I run them again (in safe mode) they find the exact same problems.

I tried following the directions on 'Read and Run me First', but don't get far because I can only boot in safe mode... I can't use the program uninstall that is part of the control panel to get rid of the Java updates of which I have a few - this seems to be because I am in safe mode. Also, it sounds like steps 2 and 3 also require to be booted in normal mode. Is it possible to complete 'read and run me first' in safe mode?

Any advice on how to proceed from here would be appreciated. thank you.

Ok, so I'm helping someone can help me on here. I was origionally running Windows 7 but had to install Ubuntu alongside it. I was installing a game, then started playing it while it continued downloading (it was a streaming download.) It ran fine for about 10 min, and then the computer froze. I decided to restart it and now it wont boot back up. Everytime I try booting it into either safe mode or regular mode it gets to the windows loading screen and then goes to the bsod and restarts. When I try booting it in safe mode it will load all the drivers until it reaches aswrvrt, then bsod flashes and it restarts. I tried booting it into recovery mode but it will reach a gray screen and then hang. I can move the courser around but nothing loads. I installed Ubuntu on a sd card so I can try and fix the problem. I can access all the data on the hard drive, so I tried uninstalling avast and the game. I dont think it worked since I can still see the files.Does anyone know what I am talking about and can help me?

Answer:Windows 7 wont boot into safe mode or recovery mode

Your Windows installation has corrupted in some way. If you cannot enter the "Last Known Good" option from the recovery screen you should then be looking at booting from a repair disk and repairing your file system.

EDIT: that is a windows repair disk specific to your OS that I am talking about.

Please, can somebody assist me. When I try to log into vista normal mode all I get is 'Please Wait' where the 'welcome' logo used to be and it just sits there saying "Please Wait . . . ." forever. When I could login to safe mode I enable the verbose command and restarted and tried normal mode again and it would say "Please wait for the Local Session Manager . . ." and never get past that screen. Now, for some reason, I cannot even log into any safe mode options. After the safe mode drivers load, the computer just hangs at crcdisk.sys after it's loaded and not proceed. So, then I tried to boot to the cd to use the repair utility and my computer won't even acknowledge it, it just takes to me the three safe mode options. In the past I could boot to the cd and use the repair disk and now I can't. Please don't tell me I am screwed. I have so much valuable info that I would really not want to lose. So if anybody can please help me to try and resolve this, I would be greatly appreciative. Thnx

In MSconfig I set windows to boot into safe mode, now it will not boot at all. Previously it booted into normal mode.

I used a Windows recovery disc from which the only option that works is the command prompt. From the cmd prompt I can see all of C: drive and also run regedit.

Is there anyway from the cmd prompt to reset Boot from safe mode back to normal mode?

Answer:Windows fails to boot, into safe mode or normal mode

Safe Mode - Start Windows 10 in - Windows 10 Forums
Option 3 and then number 5

Hope that works. Always worth checking the Tutorial section. Please have a look.

Or, if you have restore points, you can run System restore from your boot disk.

Failing those, it is possible to restore the backup copy of your registry.

When back running again (hopefully) I suggest you then do an in-place upgrade repair install.
Instructions also in the Tutorial section.
Keeps all your progs + data and most settings.

Once you have a stable working PC, I would urge you then to start using disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage so you ca recover from many problems to a previous working state without technical help.

Hey guys,
Thanks ahead of time for the help. I can honestly say I'm dumbfounded with this issue and would rather ask for help then hook up my master HD as a slave and force a reformat which would be my next step.

Anyways, here's the background on the issue.

Rig:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ OC'd to 2.75ghz
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe Mobo
BFG Tech Nvidia 7800 GTOC x2 (SLI)
Dual Sata Hd's, both the 3gb/s connection. (750gb main/250gb Backup)
Sound Blaster XFI Fatal1ty sound card
Creative modem blaster v.92 dialup modem ( @ dialup)

A few days ago, not quite sure why, but when I booted the comp the graphics card proceeded to tweak out and basically looked like fuzz upon entering windows. Eventually after hard resetting it a few times it'd boot normal. Today, I was running Nvidia NTune utility to find a stable OC setup for my PCI bus and what not, and it rebooted as normal during the process. Graphics card tweaked again, so I did what I know to do and uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers for my 7800's. Seemingly fixed the problem. Rebooted and resumed the OC process and went to watch TV.

45 Minutes later I come back and my computer is rebooting itself constantly. Upon getting the the xp loading screen, it BSoD's and reboots.

So, I try and boot in safemode to uninstall/reinstall drivers yet again. When I press safemode, it begins loading basic drivers. When it gets to SPTD.sys it pauses, locks up, and reboots (no BSoD)

Next step, repair through XP installer di... Read more

Answer:[SOLVED] BSoD on standard boot, safe mode boot, and xp install disc boot

Update:

Well, a friend needed me to fix a design for him emergency status in Illustrator CS3, so I went to work troubleshooting.

All signs point to NTFS.sys being corrupt, etc. Which makes the drive unreadable, hence the reboots.

So, I snagged my dads IDE harddrive from his computer, hooked it up as master in my computer and it still gave me the BSoD. I then unhooked both of my Sata Hd's, and ran ONLY the IDE drive. This IDE drive is fine (i'm on it right now on my dads comp to write this). I try and boot my system off just his harddrive and it STILL gave me the BSoD.

Only difference is the BSoD is staying up now on normal boot so I can give you the error.

Error code is 0x0000007B? I believe.

But yeah, the computer is still unable to boot off a good HD even with the bad ones not hooked up.

Now I'm thinking a memory issue? or Video ram issue? Fried GPU/RAM?

AHHHHHH!!!!! i have no idea what to do. This is ridiculous. meanwhile my friend is screwed on his design for a t-shirt i told him i'd do.

My computer was hit with the Security Tool virus. It's possible I even allowed it through spybot -- the little spybot messages come up while I'm typing, sometimes, and if I hit the "a" key for allow, then who knows what just happened?

Anyway, I can only run ANY program from safe mode -- including task manager and any antivirus program -- and running any antivirus software will cause the computer to turn itself off. I can't download winzip from safe mode, so forgive me that the logs attached aren't zipped.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Also, I'm having difficulty with the gmer program. It only allows me to check five boxes: Services, Registry, Files, C:, and ADS. All other boxes are greyed out. Also, it only allows me to save as a .log file, which I'm not allowed to upload...

I opened the gmer log and re-saved it as .txt... hopefully nothing's lost in translation?

Ah. Completely missed this: "Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "ark.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post"

Well, that explains that.

Need help removing please, Thank you

Answer:Infected with Antivirus Security Pro, will not let me start in safe mode

Before you do anything just try and "activate" it using this code, its a longshot but sometimes it works and you will be able to run malwarebytes and other tools

A friend brought me a computer because Anitvirus Security Pro would keep running on his moms laptop. I have had probably 5 different computers that have had this on them and have been able to clean them but this one is really a beast.
His system is running Win 7 and he tried a number of things before bringing it to me with no luck.
I printed off the Anitvirus Security Pro Removal instructions from this site but the laptop is not allowing the system to boot in Safe Mode and It will also not allow access to Regedit or MSCONFIG.
Any suggestions on getting control of the system back?

Thanks
John

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Good evening--I've been reading through a lot of posts, and it appears after an FRST scan some of the moderators will create a customized fixlist.txt to combat the specific problem. The Windows Home Premium 64-bit box has all the classic symptoms of Antivirus Security Pro with the added bonus of not being able to boot into safe mode. I can run the FRST tool, and I've attached the FRST.txt and Addition.txt results, but I can't read them very well.

Can anyone shed some light on next steps? Please let me know if you need any additional information!

Thanks in advance!

Microsoft XP media centre edition SP2

have seen other threads talking about things like "combofix" will this work on my laptop? Also saw one saying remove "enable third party browser extensions" which I have done but no change.

This is what happened:

I became infected by "Antivirus Trigger" which stopped everything working except thier pop ups of course.
I then was told to download Smitfraudfix which I had to download on to a disk on another computer and then could only run in "safe mode " on the infect laptop, which I did.

result - Anitivirus trigger does not now come up when machine is switched on, but nothing works in normal, very slow opening and as I try to open IE it totally freezes and says (not responding).

error says:
szAppName : iexplorer.exe
szAppVer : 7.0.6000.16735
szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0

C:\Docume~1\gary\Locals~1\Temp\WER8555.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp
C:\Docume~1\gary\Locals~1\Temp\WER8555.dir00\appcompat.txt

in short, I am doing this from the safe mode on my laptop as nothing works when starting up normally,

any advice or directions would be GRATEFULLY received.

My colleague 'accidentally' ran the 'Folder Virus' in my office computer,

Symptoms,

the usual,
Creating a replica of itself inside a folder with the same name as the folder
Copying itself to any external peripheral connected via USB (Pen drives, HDD etc.)
Task Manager Disabled
Regedit Disabled
Internet Explorer not working, Homepage reset to 'googleinindia.blogspot.com'

the unusual,
Cannot enter safe mode (pc reboots)
Unable to run existing antiviruses, including McAfee and Spybot S&D
Unable to run certain existing applications including MATLAB and Adobe Reader

McAfee displays an error during system startup, Spybot just sits there quietly, MATLAB encounters a fatal error (in matlab.exe)

I ran the DDS.exe, but it could only output a 'DDS' report and no 'Attach' report. I have also run the RootRepeal.exe
I am posting the DDS and RootRepeal Logs.

An early reply will be highly appreciated

Regards

I am having an issue with my computer since I updated my iTunes and QuickTime and now anytime I try to open or run a program, it pulls up "view downloads" page and asks if I want to run or save the file. Neither option works as it simply re-opens another "view downloads" page and won't allow anything to run. I am operating in Safe Mode but same issue arises. See attached picture as anything I try to open goes to this page and keeps adding the same item over and over if you try to click run or save.
Can you steer me in the right direction?

Dear Computer Hope,I have been infected with this virus and need help with manual removal of files, dlls and registry entries. I can only run Windows in safe mode and I am unable to run McAfee, Hijack This, or any other spyware removal applications. I am running Win XP but don't know how to tell which service pack I have in safe mode, I'm assuming SP2. I hope you can still help. I have found instructions elsewhere on how to remove registry entries and unregister .dll files through cmd prompt but in following instructions at hxxp://wiki-security.com/wiki/Parasite/WindowsAntivirusPro I went ahead and (unwisely?) deleted the Programmes\Windows Anti Virus Pro\ folder altogether and now do not have the .dlls to unregister.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.garddfon

Answer:Windows Antivirus Pro manual removal in safe mode

Stay out of the registry. You'll have to go here....http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.htmlIf you've lost your connection, download the programs to a USB stick on a good PC and transfer them to your PC.If you have difficulty, you may have to run them in safe mode, tap F8 at start, .If you have difficulty, you may have to rename the programs when you save them.If you get stuck on a step, proceed to the next .Post the logs for step 3,4 and 6.

Hello,

I seem to be having quite the problem on a computer of mine. After recently installing the directx sdk I am unable to logon through normal or safe mode. When I try to boot up normally, I log in but then the monitors go black but everything else seems to run. Pressing ctrl alt delete works and brings up the screen again but if I try to select task manager for example the screen goes black again. When I boot up through safe mode the computer restarts seconds after loading the windows logon screen. Any ideas on how to get into the computer. I'm pretty sure that uninstalling directx can solve my issues but I just can't get in.

Thanks

Answer:Computer can't boot through safe mode or normal mode

Hello rtsrangel and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you created a System Repair Disc you can use it to boot your computer. Then you can access various System Recovery Options such as system restore. You could then restore your computer to an earlier date/time prior to when you installed the directx sdk.

System Repair Disc - Create

Or perhaps your computer manufacturer created a hidden recovery partition. You can usually access this partition by turning on your computer and immediately clicking the F8 key (top of keyboard.) Keep clicking until you see the Advanced Boot Options screen. From here you should be able to select Repair Your Computer.

System Recovery Options

Please post back if any of this helps or not.
