Preferred Solution: computer sending out emails (gmail)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi alyxthegreat, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.Firstly,Please launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, click the Update tab, and then Check for Updates. Then choose the Scanner tab and select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.Secondly,Download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.In the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) paste the following in bold:

netsvcs
drivers32
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s
CREATERESTOREPOINT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs

Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted. When the scan completes, it will open two Notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Post both logs in this thread. You may need to use two posts to get it all.

I've set up my Gmail account for reading emails via IMAP and sending emails all with Mozilla's Thunderbird. I followed Google's directions on how to setup the client to work with Thunderbird. It reads the emails correctly but when I send emails I get:
"An error occured while sending mail. The mail server responded: INCORRECT DOMAIN IN MAIL/RCPT COMMAND. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."

As it suggests I check the outgoing mail setting and try again with the same results.

Has anyone else run into this issue and how did you resolve it?

Answer:Thunderbird and Gmail, sending emails

Not sure. I remember setting my GMail up for pop, but not IMAP. I would post something over on the Mozilla support forums - more people read that and could help.

My gmail account has been compromised. Something is sending emails from my gmail account to my contacts. In the sent mail folder there are four emails I didn't write that were sent to my contacts. They included links and little else. My inbox was also full of returned mail items that said "Malier Delivery System - Permanent delivery failure". My logs are below. Thanks in advance!!!

Answer:Virus sending emails to my contacts on gmail

Greetings pep7702 and to BleepingComputer's Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal forum. My name is Oh My! and I am here to help you! Now that we are "friends" please call me Gary. If you would allow me to call you by your first name I would prefer to do that. ===================================================Ground Rules:First, I would like to inform you that most of us here at Bleeping Computer offer our expert assistance out of the goodness of our hearts. Please try to match our commitment to you with your patience toward us. If this was easy we would never have met. Please do not run any tools or take any steps other than those I will provide for you while we work on your computer together. I need to be certain about the state of your computer in order to provide appropriate and effective steps for you to take. Most often "well intentioned" (and usually panic driven!) independent efforts can make things much worse for both of us. If at any point you would prefer to take your own steps please let me know, I will not be offended. I would be happy to focus on the many others who are waiting in line for assistance. Please perform all steps in the order they are listed in each set of instructions. Some steps may be a bit complicated. If things are not clear, be sure to stop and let me know. Until two days ago I had no problems sending gmail via SMTP.gmail.com. Now I get an error message saying 'Your outgoing server does not support SSL-Secured connections." No changes were made to the email account settings. I have checked them : the ports are correct and the SSL box is ticked for both incoming and outgoing ports. I use Norton and MS and both do automatic updates from time to time. I wonder if some update is causing the difficulty? Any ideas about what could be blocking my outgoing messages would be appreciated.

My Gmail account started sending out spam from my email. I believe it's related to this Epsilon breach. I have changed my email password and deleted any suspicious emails. Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks

Answer:Gmail account sending out spam emails to contacts

If you've changed your password and no further e-mails get sent out then you should be fine.

As I have a couple of Gmail accounts, I use Outlook 2010 (running under Windows 7) to consolidate them together and use it for reading, sending and archiving all my emails.
Until recently I have been able to manage my emails without problem, but within the past few weeks I have run into problems sending emails using Outlook for my Gmail accounts. Messages are stored in my Outbook but will not send. This does not happen all of the time, only intermittently, and even if I press the send/receive button, or reboot Outlook 2010, the messages remain in the outbox.
The only way I have managed to send them is to reboot my PC and then restart Outlook - then the messages send automatically as they normally should do and the outbox is cleared. However after a while, and not on every Outlook session, the messages do not send from Outlook unless I reboot my PC again.
I have checked my email settings and as far as I can tell they are OK (as they normally work):
Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com and port 995
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com and port 465
and outgoing server set to require authentication.
I get no error messages - the emails just remain in the outbox until I reboot the PC.
Can anybody advise how I can resolve this issue?
Many thanks for your help.

Does your antivirus software scan emails? If so try disabling that part of the software.

Last year, my system was infected with a program that kept telling me that the system was infected and I needed to purchase something to fix it. After several weeks of using various freeware programs, I thought the problem was fixed. Then, in October 2010, the system began to send emails to random contacts with no record in my sent file. With further help, the problem appeared fixed with the only remnant being the fact that System Restore did not function. Nothing further occurred until last week when my wife's email account on the same machine began to send emails to random contacts with again, no record in her sent folder.

I have scanned using the freeware editions of CCleaner, Super Anti-Spyware, Spybot - Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes' Anti-Spyware, and ESET Online Scanner. No malicious content of any sort was found.

I know I am infected with something and need your help in resolving this issue. I am running a Dell Dimensions 8400 with 2 GB of RAM. The OS is XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 with Service Pack 3 Build 2600. I use Firefox for almost all internet use, but am required to use IE for certain software applications.

I have attached the files called for in the guide and await your response.

Thanks...Drfrankr

My ISP has reported that there are a large number of emails being sent from my IP address. There are three computers on a small wireless system (we are not networked) but by only switching on one at a time we have identified the actual computer which seems to be involved.

Every so often the computer hangs and the little timer icon flashes. This can go on for 20 minutes or more and seems to coincide with the reported activity.

I?ve scanned with Norton Antivirus (which is always active and up to date) as well as Pccillin and AVG. Also Spybot. Nothing shows up and it has been suggested that someone has sent a small program via email which has been installed and deleted the Trojan that dropped it. This program seems to be responsible.

I don?t really want to have to reformat my drive so can anyone advise how I can identify (and remove) the culprit program? I?ve tried bringing up Taskmanager Processes but there are too many for me to try and see and I don?t know any likely program names.

I use Windows XP Pro which is bang up to date with all fixes etc

Please help.

Many thanks

James

Hi everyone, My friend has a laptop and it was infected with the W32.Grum.A virus.
It had winlogon starting in the msconfig startup section under. C:\documents and settings\user\localsettings\temp\winlogon.exe
This virus was created on March 30th and Norton had a removal for it April 6th.
Norton has said it has removed the virus and deleted it. We did this with system restore off and in safe mode.
We thought we had it. However when he took his laptop home and plugged it in to his highspeed internet, it tried to send emails, lots!!!. Norton pops up saying his server has blocked the emails because they are spam. The people they are going to he doesn't regonize their names. Its very annoying.
We have run Norton several times and it says there is no infections.
We ran Adaware and Spyware Bot and they say the system is clean.
Any ideas on how to stop this?
We had it plugged into my high speed and it doesn't try to send anything, he took it home which is 3 hours south of me and bang sending emails again.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dave.
He is using a Acer Aspire laptop with XP Pro/ SP2 installed and Norton 2007 XP/ Vista compatible. AMD Turon 64bit 2GHZ CPU with 512 MB RAM
His highspeed and mine are both Sympatico

I also got an email from my sister, saying that apparently emails are being sent from my address, that I did not send! Can this be a virus? I use hotmail, so it is internet based. I changed the password, but I'm afraid it might not be enough?I hope someone can help me!TIA

On august 5th people my mother and I had previously emailed received a number of junk emails from our aol.com email addresses. The only link between the two being a shared computer running Vista that has those addresses set up in the Windows Mail program. I removed the phone cable when I realized this was happening. After a number of false starts where the computer froze, most likely due to conflicts with my anti-virus program (AVG Free and Spybot-S&D) I finally got Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware to run and it found an infected registry entry for Adware.Minibug All other scans have been clean but searching the internet it seems that this virus normally comes with more files than just one registry entry so I don't entirely trust them. Attached are DDS and GMER logs as well as two MBAM logs. If someone could look over these and reassure me that this computer is actually clean and can be connected back to the internet without doing that again I would appreciate it.

Thanks
jim

An apparant virus has infected my nieces laptop and it is sending out emails at a very fast pace(30 per minute). The only reason I know it is happening is Norton gives an error that it cannot send the email. It looks like the email to address is different on all of them. This happens once I enable my wireless network card. Here is the error that norton displays."Your email message to [email protected] with the subject of "blah blah blah" was unable to be sent becuase your email server was interupted" The subject line is usually sexual in nature. Hi-

I'm trying to fix my mother-in-laws laptop. She started getting messages from people that said she sent emails that their anti virus said was a virus. She didn't intentionally send the emails.

I ran MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware asd deleted low level tracking cookies. I ran MS Security Essentials and it came up clean. I then ran HouseCall and Incredmail showed up twice and I deleted the files. I want to make sure there isn't anything else.

I tried to download DDS and was unable to download the program. No messages came up but, the program wouldn't download. Attached is the GMER file.

Thanks for your help!

Steve

For several weeks, my email address has been receiving bounce messages indicating that I am sending out spam.  My IP address has also been blacklisted.

I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot and AntiMalwareBytes, and AMB has identified (and quarantined) several Trojan programs.  However, the spam bounce messages keep coming from time to time and I think I have a virus which is well hidden from my usual tools.

Please can someone kindly help identify and remove any malware from my machine which may be responsible?

Many thanks.

help, i keep getting a bunch of popups from symantec stating that the emails were not able to be sent, the subject line is spam and it is trying to be sent to hundreds of email addresses that i do not know. also, i have been having problems with my temp folder. i delete everything listed but as soon as it deletes, it starts to fill up again immediately......sometimes as much as a thousand. i am also having problems emptying my recycle bin on the different users because it states that it is either write protected or being used by another user, even a few of my other user accounts can't delete some files in the temporary internet folder. here is my log that i just did, all help would be greatly appreciated.

I have discovered that my computer is sending email out to many addresses on an intermittent basis. I believe that the virus is not active all the time. It will be quiet for a while, but every 5-10 minutes, it starts a lot of internet activity.

Tracking down the process involved using netstat -b showed all the network activity and the process involved. What I found was that normally there were only 2-3 Established connections, but when the virus went active that there were many many established connections. These connections were made by the program services.exe.

I have attached my hijackthis.log here:

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. Please download Trend Micro - HijackThis. Hi all,

My computer has really slowed down and sometimes I get strange emails back saying we were unable to send an email to a certain address that I did not try to email. I think I might have a trojan or some kind of spyware. I ran ad-aware, ewido, spybot S&D and my Norton A/V but they cant find anything.

Hi,

I recently had problems with my computer where it was infected and there was malware. After many attempts to get rid of the problems ( with help from you guys ), we decided the best course of action was format the hard drive. I did a clean install and although my computer seems to be running OK, mass emails have been sent from my address book at least twice. Once right after the install and once now (about 2 1/2 months later). I've continuously run scans with AVG, Malwarebytes and Spybot which all come back clean. However, because of the emails, I fear I'm still infected. Can someone please help.

Thanks
Dawn

Hi guys,

This is my first time to post so if I break some rules please forgive me. My problem is my computer is sending out unsolicited emails. I have done some research and some people call these zombies. I have run malware bytes and it shows no infection, however I can tell they are still operating because my system is sluggish, and when I am connected to my yahoo mail account I see undeliverable mail in my spam folder that I didnt send out.

What do I need to do to identify the culprit and eliminate the spyware causing this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:my computer is sending out unauthorized emails

Hi tabshire and welcome to Bleeping Computer. This is my first time to post so if I break some rules please forgive me.No rules broken, you're fine.1st thing .... have you changed the password on your email account?if not .... do it now.The sluggishness may just be down to a cluttered system, let's clean it out:Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files.Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator). It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.Let me know how things are after following these steps. Thanks

Hi,
I installed a trial of Norton Antivirus 2008 the other day, and I have found that something/someone is using my computer to send about 100 emails a minute to random addresses, whenever I connect to the Internet. I tried to fix it by doing a virus scan with Norton Antivirus, but the emails were still being sent, so I downloaded NOD32, Spybot S&D, Avira Antivir and AVG Free and did virus scans with all of them. They found a lot of viruses, but nothing had changed.

What should I do to fix this? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi I'm a newbie here and I have a questionI manage a small business network for a client of mine and they have been blacklisted by Spamhous.org a few times in the past 2 years for sending spam from their network most of the time I can figure out th offending computer and clean it and get us de-listed. The IP they are blocking is the public IP of our Router, they all send emails through to a POP account from their hosted domain.Wondering if there is an application that I can run or a utility that I can install on the network or run a their PC's that will tell me if they have a something that is using their PC's to send spam emails? or a network monitoring utility that can monitor the network for suspicious activity. This is the 3rd time Spamhaus has shut us down in the past 2 years and it is getting annoying, the issue is that they are a temporary staffing agency and they send emails with the words job and career in them all the time. But that should not be enough to get them flagged as a spammer.Any help would be appreciatedThanks73

Hi All,
A few days ago (22.05.13) a virus in my computer used my entire mail box to send out a "fake email"...

This used my name - no subject - and just contained an odd looking address link...

Most people picked it as a "virus" and did not open it...

However a few contacts did open it - and it turned out to be a scam website offering amazing "weight loss" pills
that have only baking powder in them - according to one on my contacts...

I have not posted the link here - but I could if further identification is required...

I run Windows 7 Home Premium - on a HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC

I would greatly appreciate if someone on Bleeping Computer can help...

Best regards

Answer:Virus in my Computer sending out Fake Emails

It doesn't seem like a virus. It seems more like your email was hacked. The solution is to change your email password.

I've done the following already:

-HiJackThis scan
-Removed Vundos
-ATFTribune Removal of everything
-HiJackThis Removal of Missing Files (.dll's)

...but still, emails still keep sending from time to time (sometimes it doesn't, but when it does, it like... freezes my comp up). I'll post a hijackthis log after I tell about other suspectible errors I get.

Some suspectible errors I get:

-A duplicate name exists on the Network -- this always appears at startup. But then, this doesn't happen if I don't connect to my Wireless Connection...

Recently, a few of my Contacts have responded to emails sent from my computer saying that they are unable to open the attchment I have sent to them. I did not knowingly send them anything. How can I make this stop. I don't want to infect others with this problem.

I have run a DDS and GMER scan of the computer as suggested and the results are included below.

My computer has been sending out emails to the top 20 names on my address list. I have AOL and use AOL as my email. This has been going on since February (at least). There is no subject line and the link inside the email usually is something like "http://sites.google.com/site/lpyoksaon/ssbkmpxd" But it is a different address every time. Just the sites.google.com/ is the same every time. Two people that received emails in different months have told me that the link is a drug company trying to sell Cialis, Viagra, etc. One person said it is located in Canada. First I emailed everyone in that list and told them that I would never send them a link without some sort of explanation, Then yesterday, I finally made up 22 fake email addresses that start with aaa and that seems to have helped because today, all of the spam emails were sent to those addresses. (I also made up 22 fake ones for zzz because it used the end of my list once.) Of course, my inbox was innundated with MAILER-DAEMON non delivered emails today, but I was glad that it worked. A friend told me that I should get on this web site and someone will ask me to send them my Registry Log and tell me how to fix this. If so, that would be great. By the way, the emails that are sent show up in my Send Folder on AOL.

I am running Windows 7 and I just bought the computer in December. My old computer didn't have this problem. This is a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980. I have AOL, IE and Firefox insta... Read more

I have received multiple letters from my service provider that mass spam emails were being sent from my computer. I have since installed a new antivirus program, a firewall, and a couple anti-spyware programs, and the letters have stopped coming. However, I have a rootkit infection (yqxvbm.sys) in my system32/drivers folder that I cannot get rid of. I would greatly appreciate any help in getting rid of it and any other issues my computer might have. Help! For WEEKS I've been trying to get rid of a trojan that has hijacked my home page (always sends emails with <various prefixes>@<my website address>). I'm running Windows XP Pro, and use Outlook. Thought (again) I'd gotten rid of it, only to discover 396 "undeliverable" emails in my inbox this morning--more than ever before!!! About to go completely insane. Have been doing multiple things suggested in virus-removal forums, all to no avail. And I use Kaspersky Anti-virus 24/7, which is supposed to be known for catching things others miss....before that I used AVG and Trend Micro which didn't catch it either.I've also tried showing hidden files, and removing temp files, cookies, bookmarks, .....pretty much everything short of throwing the computer in the trash! Thanks so much for your help...here's my Hijack This log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 1:23:22 PM, on 9/3/2008Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16705)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchos... Hi daveart
Put in place a good hosts file
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
How To Download and Extract the HOSTS file:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm
Repeat that proccess about once or twice a month

ewido security suite, has changed, now called avgantispyware
I suggest you uninstall it and go get the new version
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=asf
Update the program and do a full scan

These old version's of java should be uninstalled via addremove programs
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2

keep the current version "Java(TM) 6 Update 2"
-----------
remnant of malware "MDS Search Booster" uninstall it via addremove programs, windows should ask if you want to remove it from the list, choose yes

Quote:

Computer is sending out constant junk emails.

What leads you to believe this ?

Would you consider replacing your norton with another antivirus program ?
considering it's a 2005 version and very resource intensive, especialy for a notebook pc.

For a good couple of months now, my mother's Yahoo email account has been periodically sending spam emails to her entire address book. I told her she should change her password as it appeared that her password had been phished, but that didn't fix the problem. I've done several avast! scans, including a couple of boot-time scans, but they have all turned up clean. The emails are being sent about once a week, and contain a link to a web site claiming to sell Viagra and such. The DDS log for the computer is below, and Attach.txt is attached. GMER had some issues while running. It scanned for a good 20 minutes or so, but then the computer had a BSOD. After restarting, I tried to run GMER again, but Windows said that it had a problem that prevented it from running. I tried to run it a third time, but as soon as I pressed the Scan button, the computer bluescreened again. So Ark.txt is not attached.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by kerry at 15:53:42.43 on Sat 06/19/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18928 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_20Microsoft? Windows Vista? I got a new laptop today and I set it up with internet through my router (PC connected via ethernet, Laptop via USB until I get a wireless router)

I'm happily browsing when i keep getting symantec popups saying "Scanning Message 1 of 1" loads and loads of times. I got a fright and pulled out the USB and I got loads of popups saying "Your message to [email protected]" could not be sent.

AFAIK my router is supposed to have a firewall and I put on Windows firewall too.

I also have AVG running. I've scanned loads of times. I've scanned using Netsky remover, Klez remover and stinger and nothing can be found.

In my C: Drive sitting alone is an .exe file with the name 3611010322516384 and it won't delete.

I really need help here guys, I just got my laptop yersterday and i didn't take out a warranty or anything. I can't use it with the internet at all.

Hi Guys,

thanks for taking the time to read this.

Okay so here's what's happened:

2 days ago I recieved an email from a friend's hotmail address. With her being a friend I naturally opened it and that's where the fun started! I clicked on a link which looked innocent enough until it redirected me to a page promoting vi*gra. I also noticed that in the "CC" field, the same email had been sent to all her facebook friends. It seems as if the virus has harvested all the email addresses on her friends list.

I have since tried the following:
Avg 2011 free version
MBAM
Superantispyware
Ccleaner
Avast! - removed peternova.class trojan and java open connection trojan.

However it still seems to be sending out emails without my knowledge, the only tell tale sign is that I'm getting loads of mail delivery failure notifications coming back to my email account.

There are no obvious error messages coming up, so it's a bit difficult for me to google a specific remedy when I don't know the name of the virus causing the problem!
Anyway if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it, if not please take heed of my experience and watch out for it!

I must have something because my contacts are writing saying they have gotten an email from my email address that I did not send. Right away I opened AVG, and I found that it had found Trojan Horse Downloader Generic 9 & 10. But my virus vault was full, so it hadn't cleaned it (nor given me any warning messages!). I emptied the vault and cleaned the infection, but I don't know if that was what was hijacking my email and want to find out.I have attempted to follow the instructions for posting my logs here, although I'm running Vista 64-bit and cannot seem to download a fully working version of GMER (the options for what to scan are greyed). I hope I've done everything else correctly! The question really says all about what I want to do, or need help on. I recently signed up for a new outlook account to try out the new outlook preview and I've set up gmail to automatically forward new messages to my outlook account so that I can use outlook to manage my gmail account.

Do any of you know how I would be able to forward the old messages, and not the new ones, to my outlook? I already know that they can be fetched into outlook by outlook's very own service, forwarding would be faster, so..?! Also, since I now use outlook to send email on behalf of my gmail account, how do I make it sync each email I send using outlook with my gmail - so that gmail has it all?

TY in advance. Please do help.

MS Office Outlook sending emails but no emails to send? I have added a few new accounts to my outlook and have had nothing but problems since. It is important that I keep these emails in my outlook, because I work from home and need to access these accounts. I have recently noticed, whenever I hit send receive, the number rises everyday, which now has me concerned. Each account has a different amount "sending", but nothing is in the outbox. IE: account A: sending 1 of 135, Account B: sending 1 of 1020 and so on. I also read online somewhere that if I was a torrent user, that "is" my problem, but I have stopped using it for weeks and there is no traffic going in or out, and I've turned the program off completely.

I've used Outlook for years, with many accounts and have never had problems. I've noticed more problems since this 'sending' message has started. I also noticed, I was the ONLY one at work not getting any SPAM for at least 2 yrs, UNTIL, I took a few days off, went back to work and BAM, hit with SPAM. Its a bloody nuisance because my accounts are linked with "rules and alerts", so if one is infected, all others follow behind! Has one or all of my accounts been compromised? If so, can it be fixed?

Hello,

I'm using the old Gmail Chat.

A long time ago I added my own account to the Chat List so that I'd be able to send myself a message from that list.
I had to add a "." (dot) after the User Name; - instead of "[email protected]", "[email protected]".

In the last few days, whenever I send mail to "[email protected]" - I get a "Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently" message.
I'd appreciate your help.

Regards.

Someone seems to be sending emails from my gmail account to my contacts. However, there is no record of the emails in my sent items. I've had people forward me the messages that were sent (usually a random link), and gmail flags them as suspicious. The only record I have of them is that occasionally they show up in my spam when the address is wrong and they bounce back (there is usually a error message that says " It seems to be a fake "bounce" reply to a message that you didn't actually send.")

I've changed my password several times, forwarded the email headers to google, turned on two-step verification and checked for any suspicious login activity. Any suggestions on what to do to fix this?

Thanks!

He friend is an artist in her mid-80s and needs to be able to send pdf and jpeg files as attachments. She only uses Macs and Gmail. I am trying to help her sort out her problem although I have no knowledge of Macs. I am visiting her in March so need some advice on how to fix this. When she attaches a file (pdf or jpeg) and sends the email, the recipient gets only a small .webloc file (tiny size) with 'preview' in the file name.
I am guessing this is something in her Mac settings and am looking for easy instructions to follow, to put this right.
Thanks for any help you can give. Julia

Hi. I recently made gmail as my default email hander vs. the Windows mail app. When I click on a picture and it opens I tried to click the email button. When I do, it states that there is no email program associated to perform this action. I then tried it wth a document, via right clicking and trying the "send to" mail recpient. I got the same message. I checked my defaults, and it shows and the "Mail to" shows google chrome.

I cannot get it to work. Any suggestions? I would apprciate it very much. The mail app seems buggy after the 8.1 update.

Thank you in advance!

I have set up a gmail account, but am unable to send gmail using Outlook 2010. I have changed the settings as instructioned - IMAP; incoming: imap.gmail.com; outgoing: smtp.gmail.com with the following server port #s: incoming: 993-SSL; outgoing: 587-TLS. The test outgoing emails come in fine; but I am unable to create emails using my gmail account from Outlook; I have to log onto GOOGLE and send emails from there. I have revised the settings as described in other 'help forums', but nothing works. Can you help me? Thank you.

Answer:Sending Gmail using Outlook 2010

Have you checked this option:
Under Account, and its Properties, Click the Advanced tab. Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP),
Check the checkbox "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" in "Outgoing Server" tab and use the same authentication as it's for the incoming server (use the radio button there).

I have a problem where an automated mail is sent from a third party software (SPAM) that goes to all my contacts in my address book.

What should I do?

I want to stop this program from sending automated messages. This is from a website Desktop Dating. It keeps sending a message that Did you receive my Invite to all my contacts.

How do I ensure that these mails do not go out.

Answer:Gmail sending SPAM to all my contacts

Wish I knew-the same exact thing has happened to my hotmail account and has sent this "invite" to my contacts on my hotmail account! I am very angry about this and when I tried contacting all of my contacts to let them know not to open the email invite to desktop dating that was supposedly from me, microsoft sent me a message saying I exceeded my 300 email messages a day so my email account is now suspended for 24 hours!!That is ridiculous because as now 374 other contacts on my list will not get the warning message about not opening up the desktop dating invite and thus their contact lists will probably be hijacked too because I can't warn them in time about this bogus email message. Let me know if someone tells you what to do--wish we could sue all these jerks for the problems they have caused us by their scams.

I'm not sure if this is a malware issue or not, had no idea where to post it. A couple of my friends have sent me messages (not through email) letting me know they are getting spam from my email address. And sure enough, when I logged into my email I got a ton of "delivery to the following recepient failed" messages".

This has happened twice within the last week or so, I'm sure all of my contacts are getting pretty annoyed by now, but I have no idea how to stop it!

Help?

Answer:My gmail is sending spam to my contacts list

I'm pretty sure that you will be better off by getting down all your contacts info > create a fresh email account. But if you wish to check for malware then you can do the following:

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet c... Read more

Hi All,

Since upgrading to Win 10 last week, I have not been able to send emails from Gmail in Outlook 2013.

It was fine in Win 8.1.

My email settings are

IMAP
Outgoing server requires authentication - is ticked
Incoming = 993 with SSL
Outgoing = 587 with TLS

All other setting as normal. When I run a test it comes back as good and will receive emails, but nothing will send.

Any thoughts?

Hi Everyone,

My question regards Firefox, Tabs and Gmail. I hate Gmail, but I have no choice but to use it for the moment so I went ahead and enabled Gmail as my default mail handler in Firefox (version 19.0.2). I also enabled it so that when I click an email link it opens a Compose mail window in a new tab. The problem I'm having is that once the email is sent that tab stays open and doesn't close.

My question then is how can I get this tab to close after I send the email? I've been Googling for a solution for a week or so and haven't found anything so I thought I'd come here and ask, since this forum has always been great at helping me with these things.

Thanks!

Answer:Firefox & Gmail Question: Close Tab After Sending Email?

It's not possible. From Firefox's perspective, it's just another web page on the internet for it to display to its user (you). It doesn't know that it's doing e-mail: it's just displaying a web page for you. So my best advice is to press Ctrl+F4 to close the tab when you're done with it.

I have not been able to send email using OE from my home location. It works just fine at work. I am able to receive emails using OE but when I send it gives me this message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Eric DMSI Mail', Server: 'mail.detect-measure.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Also, this is only when using my dsl connection at home, if I dialup then sending emails works fine. Again, sending emails from the work broadband works fine as well.

Here is my setup: Win XP SP2, dsl router, d-link router, OE 6.0, Zone Alarm, & AVG Anti-Virus with firewall turned off.

OE won't send regardless of how I have the dsl connected, wireless through the d-link, hard wired to d-link, or hard wired to the dsl router. None of these configurations helped.

Your assistance please? Thanks in advance.

Answer:OE not sending emails

Perhaps your home ISP is not letting you relay outgoing mail through another server. Looks like the one you specified in the error msg is work-related. You may have to set OE's outgoing mail setting to your home ISP's mailserver, when connecting from home, specifying your home ISP's user account and password to authenticate the transmission. Or it may be as simple as your home ISP blocking all such traffic on port 25. I have overcome this by having my outgoing mail server listen on a non-standard port-- possibly an option for you, but would have to be implemented company wide.

Odd that it works on the dial-up, however. I assume the dial-up is the same as the DSL provider.

Question: Sending Emails

My daughter is living in a house where the broadband provider is AOL. She however wants to continue using her One-Tel email address using Incredimail. Incoming mail is set to "mail.onetel.com" and outgoing mail to "smpt.aol.com" as instructed by AOL. She receives emails without problems but cannot send emails. She always gets error messages or a notification that the server is not responding. Can anyone suggest a solution please?

Answer:Sending Emails

Answer:help with sending emails.

Not a great deal to go on there...

But it might be this...

Click on tools at the top of I.E, then Internet Options, then select 'programs' at the top, then see if she has Yahoo set as her default email client... just change it to outlook express or whatever she wants to use...

Might be barking up the wrong tree though, worth checking though...

As soon as i connect to the net, many instances of symantec email scanner start indicating that my system is sending email though i have not asked to send any email. I also get a lot of errors saying"mail server rejected the mail:Spam value exceeded" or something similar.I ran ad-aware SE and removed the items that it has found but the problem is still there. One thing that Ad-Aware found was CWS and i ran CWShredder and got rid of it.

Answer:Emails sent without me sending them

hi, welcome to TSG.
Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe
Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install
button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added
l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1
for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your
computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2,
notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into
this thread.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and Microsoft windows applications. choose "close to terminate the application".....then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Hi - does anyone know of any method we can use to send lots of individually email merged messages at once? 'Lots' as in around 1000 - not spam, we run an international photographic competition and there are time constraints we have to stick to when notifying everyone of their results when the competition is over.Additionally, prior to this, we contact around 3000 people, inviting them to enter and then follow this up by a couple of reminders - all over roughly a 5 month period. Our club has a website hosted by Click-it, and we use the email address set up there (it's a .org.uk address) to send emails via Outlook and our ISP, o2. The first year we did this, there was no problem, but o2 now have a cap of no more than 25 emails sent at one time, or 15 within 15 minutes. Click-it say we can't use a static address. We don't really want to stop the website set up as it works superbly - entrants fill in the entry form online, pay by paypal and it runs like clockwork.Does anyone know of any other way around this? I think I'm getting bogged down with it all! We've got til about February to get it sorted.

Answer:Sending many emails at once

Check with your webhosting company -many have facilities for amiling lists to go direct from their servers, bypassing O2's involvement.I don't know CLick-it, but certianly the last 3 hosting companies i've used have offered the facility.

Question: Sending emails

I am no longer able to send emails from my hotmail account. This is a recent "malfunction". How do I return to the properly functioning email account.

Answer:Sending emails

Are you using a e-mail manager like outlook, outlook express, etc... ? Or is the problem specfically with sending hotmail from the browser ?

If #2, what browser are you using ? Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc... ?

If you change browser, does the problem still happen ?

I have to use OWA for government work. I had it more or less working. (More on that in a moment.) I could send and receive emails using my CAC for authentication. However, I couldn't read or send encrypted emails.

Fast forward to now. I can still receive emails, but I can't send emails. If I try to send an email a new window pops up and I can go through all the motions of getting an email ready to send. (Selecting recipient, typing email ect.) However, When I hit
send it essentially ignores me. Nothing happens not errors etc. I think this may have started after an OS update. (Or that could just be in my head.)

So problem one is I need to be able to send emails again and I also need to get this encyrpted figured out.  I've never had encryption working on my personal computer.) I know my credentials on my CAC are good. When I go to government site I can send
and receive encrypted. Just not on my personal laptop. I've tried installing the S/MIME but I'm not confident I'm doing it right. I download the control from withing options of OWA and then I click run after it downloads and nothing happens. (No confirmations
etc.)
So, that's my two part question. Any ideas?

Welcome to Tech Support Forums.

Whoever responds to your problem will need more information. You should always post your OS, including Service Packs, if any, along with names and versions of programs involved in your problem. Always better to post too many details than not enough.

In particular what type email do you have? Web (like Yahoo!)? POP3? AOL?
What email client? Outlook Express? Outlook? Other?
