Weird beep beep boop noise

Question: Weird beep beep boop noise

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. In my mind there are two possibilities. 1 i have some sort of virus. 2 some hardware is malfunctioning. either way i have no idea where to start and i was hoping someone could point me in the rite direction. Thank You!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Weird beep beep boop noise

You should check for malware first. I'll ask a mod to move this to the appropriate forum.

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Question: Weird Beep/Noise

This beep happens everytime I maximize/minimize a window. It comes from the tower, not the speakers. Also, sometimes it doesn't happen. Yesterday it didn't do that sound, and today it does. Any ideas? Thanks.

Here's the video of it, just make sure to turn up your speakers when listening. I was maximizing and minimizing my windows which created those sounds. What could be the problem?

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

I have ThinkPad T500, 2241, CTO. Every time laptop boots, there is an annoying beep. It is not a beep sound that one might have when power status changes. Beep is off both in Power Manager and turned off in BIOS section of power management. Moreover, in device manager in non-plug and play list i disabled the BEEP. Still this annoying sound is there. BIOS is updated. However, there is no other section in BIOS where I can turn off the beep. Please help!Message Edited by Gordik on 03-22-2009 09:31 PM

Look through the bios again, there is a separate entry for beeps afaik. Did you look in the section where you can also set power mode beeps, keyboard beeps etc? I think its there, not 100% sure though.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

Hi guys,

But well just after these beep my pc is booting well ! and video card working well too, i've no problem playing games.

The strange thing also is that it's making these beep like 1 time every 2 or 3 days as i shut down my pc every night and when i'm going to work.

Do you have an idea of what i can do ??

-Disable integrated graphic
-Clear CMOS
-Update Nvidia driver

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

After having accidentally kick my Chassis, I've noticed that there's a high pitch whining/beeping/screeching noise coming out of my HDD.

I opened my case up to make sure if it was the HDD, and im pretty sure it is.
Everything works fine, it's just the noise is really annoying. It really only beeps/screeches when there's med-high activity on my HDD.

Is it gonna go on me? I've backedup all my files onto my secondary HDD.
The screeching HDD i have is a Maxtor 6Y080L0 (80gigs).

If i do have to buy a new HDD, whats a good brand? should i get another Maxtor?

Hey, I'm a 16 year old kid that's just now seriously getting into the computer world, and I'm having a problem with something that I assume is a hardware problem.

Basically, whenever I play a game that has any sort of 3D component, my computer will begin to beep at me incessantly after about 20 minutes of straight play time. I can fix the problem temporarily by exiting the game and coming back after a few minutes. However, it will start up again after a little while more of playing the game.
As I said before, it seems to only happen on 3D based games. For example, if I decide I wanna play... let's say the old 1993 Doom game, it won't beep. If I play an upgraded version with better graphics and a much more complex 3D state, such as Skulltag or something, it will now beep at me. If I play a game such as UT, it beeps. If I play a game like some sort of basic flash game off the internet, it won't beep. But like my friend was doing the other day, if I were to wanna play something like that Myspace game Yoville or whatever, it beeps (it's a 3D app or something, I don't know).

The sound seems to be coming from my video card. I can't identify why it does it, though. My computer is three years out of date, but it has never done this before. It only recently started this beeping problem about... three or four weeks ago.

I'm not sure what information I need to divulge to make it easier to answer this question, so if I should be telling something else, please advise.

Thank y... Read more

I have an IBM Intellistation that beeps loudly every time a window pops up or emails come in. I looked in the BIOS and couldnt find any settings that deactivated the audio, so I tried in Windows XP's control panel (sounds- and audio devices). There I deselected several sounds that were located to different windows happenings, but none shut off the noise when pop-ups occur.Because I dont really want to have any noise, I tried to open the small tower but because it is a 2nd hand pc there is no key to unlock the framework. Otherwise I could have maybe cut off the connection to the speaker. Also I deactivated the "Windows Audio" service in the administration - services section (C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs) but it still cant be killed !Maybe I deactivated the wrong service, because I think that just deactivates additional audio devices / hardware that are installed separately. I guess the sound chip that I want to deactivate is directly on the moterboard?

Answer:how to deactivate beep noise?

If it is onboard sound, try disabling AC97 audio in the bios.

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. screen
4. screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

Hi all you experts!

A friend asked me to repair his laptop after his harddisk went down (totally dead), so I got a new WD harddisk and changed the old one with the new, installed Vista and it's all running fine, I just encountered one problem there's some sort of beeping sound from the laptop, but only when the power cable is plugged in and there's no running processes.

It's very strange, when i scroll the beeping sound stops, when I stop scrolling the beeping sound returns. First thought that it was the harddisk, but the sound comes from within the center of the laptop (keyboard, maybe RAM) but if it was the keyboard it would beep also on battery wouldn't it?

I have never heard of a similar problem and I don't know wether it did the same before, cause it couldn't boot.

Hope someone out there got an idea of what it could be.

I just started hearing it a few hours ago as I started browsing the internet. It kind of sounds like something you would hear on some kind of celluar phone when you're pressing the number keys. I wasn't sure if the sound was coming through the speakers or outside because I was wearing headphones when this issue occurred.  Does anyone know what this is all about? I've purchased the laptop about a year ago, so I'm really hoping it's nothing too serious.

Hi there

I am very new to all this, any help much appreciated.

When i use Nero to covert and burn an avi movie, the audio is fine but the aspect ratio is out.
So i use tmpeg to convert the avi and get a correct aspect ratio , which is fine, but for some reason ANY VCD I BURN WHERE I HAVE CONVERTED WITH TMPEG i have an audio click/ beep noise through out the vcd. I have even used virtual dub to convert the audio to wav any use that but no difference. I have checked the file after converting with tmpeg and it sounds fine, only when burnt to cd i have the noise, but as mentioned before- any thing burnt that hasnt been coded with tmpeg the audio is fine.(SO ITS NOT THE DVD PLAYER)
I haven't changed any audio settings , could that be where i need to look.
Hope someone can help.

Answer:vcd annoying beep/click noise HELP PLEASE!

don't use nero

just so i understand:

1.aspect ratio goes screwy when using nero to directly burn avi to vcd
(as you've found, nero is not primarily an mpeg encoder, good idea to change to tnpg or other software specifically designed to encode)

2. using tmpg to encode from avi to mpeg works fine

3. playing the resulting mpeg on your PC - the sound is fine

4. burning tmpg mpeg/vcd to cd produces a click/beep sound on audio

- are you using the standard vcd templates with tmpg?
- have you tried a different burning program?

suggest trying vcdeasy - the free version is now limited, but you can still find (as the author suggests) the unlimited free version on the web - it's version 1.1.5 or - i found it on tucows

see vcdeasy will burn a clean version - then you know it's nero

if the sound error persists, then it's a tmpg setting OR the original avi itself (ie ac3 audio or another codec)

you might also try for additional tools, guides etc to make sure the whole process is being done correctly

My laptop has started making a short beep sound every few minutes. Not sure how to describe it.It's sort of a warning sound cut short.
Task manager is showing nothing unusual.

Answer:annoying beep noise in vista

Turning off all windows sounds for a short while would isolate software as the cause
If it still occurs a stuck key, high temperature alarm or a low battery alarm
could be the culprit

Hi everyone! just got my x220 (i7, 4gb, 300hdd) a few days ago and already have the need to join this lovely community  my problem: I noticed a beep noise after hitting a certain combination of keys. I am not sure, if it is the x220 or win 7 (64) related though. The beep occurs every time I hit a 3-key combination consisting of any key + the key above + the key to the left. For example the beep occurs, when I write "fre" or "vfd" or "loi".But it also occurs when typing "ouh" or "oun" or "oum". The weird thing is: it only beeps when I type the 3 letters quickly. If I type slow, no beep noise is made. After the beep, nothing else happens. I can continue writing and no error message or anything else is coming up. I checked the hand book, but the alerts I found were not of any help. Thanks for your answers in advance, z

Hi there,  When I open up my Lenovo X200t when it is in hibernation/sleep, a loud beep sounds and as little as it may seem, it does cause disturbances in times when not needed.  I do realize that it will not beep when the volume on the laptop is on mute or on 0%, but is there another way in which it will not make the beep sounds?  If you are not familiar with this, the beeping sound also comes up when the battery level is critical and beeps four times. Please tell me that there is a way to turn it off! Thank you,MoeKara

How do I turn off the beep noise that come from the inside of my laptop? (NOT the beep that come out of the speaker or headphone!)
It's getting on my nerve. I'm unable to disable it.
I tried disable it from
and setting the value of Start from 1 to 4, but the laptop still beep! (The beep doesn't come out of the speaker or headphone. It seems like it comes out of the laptop. Even if I plug my headphone/earphone, the beep come out of the laptop, not the headphone/earphone)
I just want to disable the beep. (I'm not talking about the "default beep" in Control Panel -> Sound.)
On the other side, my computer is working fine. It's just the random beep that annoye me.
(I'm using Windows 8.1, and there is no "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" in device manager)

Answer:How do I turn off the beep noise from the inside of my laptop?

When does this beep occur?
How often?
Are you doing any specific task when this beep occurs?
There is no such default, random beep built into a Windows 8.1 system (or any other Windows OS for that matter), so I honestly have no idea what it is at this time.
How old is the system?
If it's not coming from the speakers, where do you think it is coming from?
Can you record it & zip up/upload an MP3 file?

Hello again......

I got a new mouse last week (logitech g700). I wanna put this in here because this issue has only occured since Friday. The mouse can be wired/wireless. I always use wireless...

The problem I have is
A) If I scroll to fast, or use the hyperscroll feature of the mouse, the laptop would send out beeps through my speakers or headset.. whatever I am using. I stop scrolling, the beeps stop coming. I start scrolling again, at any speed, the beep occurs again. To go along with this.. The cursor/laptop becomes VERY slow when the beeping happens... NOTE: This does not happen all the time... I shrugged it off until what happened next:
B)This only happened once (about 10minutes before i posted this) When I turned my laptop on and right after everything was booted, I tried to move/scroll my mouse, and the beeps happened. This time, my computer was lagging all the time (i couldn't even bring up taskmgr to see anything)... I restarted my laptop and now everything is working good...

At this point I am uncertain if its the mouse or other hardware or a windows 7 thing.

Thanks for the help.

the next time it happens I will record the beep and post it.. it is not a windows beep i heard before.

Hi Everyone,

Just recently has my laptop started malfuntioning.
Yesterday, after startup (or when you take it out of sleep mode) it started beeping -

Beeping is 10 short in a row, fast.

I run a stock standard Satellite A200, using Windows Vista.
I do not know what to do, and during the beeping (which lasts about 10 - 15 minutes) I cannot do anything - the CPU (i think) simply cannot handle any processes. The beeping comes from the right side of the laptop, and is feint, but definately a sign of a problem.

I believe it has something to do with the motherboard, but I don't know how to diagnose this problem, and after hours of searching I have not found anyone with a similar problem to mine.

I am sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum, as the boards are confusing and I cannot find a technical support one.

Please Help,

Answer:Re: Satellite A200 - Beep Noise after Startup

As I understand your problem, it seems that you are not able to get into the BIOS and you are not able to boot the Window OS.
You cannot see the Toshiba Splash screen as well? Is it right?

Hmm? it seems that this beeping sound is related to a hardware malfunction?
So possibly the POST (power on self test) cannot be passed properly and therefore you get this alert beep sound?

What to say; in most cases it?s motherboard related but it?s hard to say what could be exactly wrong?

Maybe you could try this;
Remove battery and disconnect the AC adaptor for some hours?
Wait and after some time connect both parts again?
Then try to power up the unit again?

If this will not work, then I would recommend asking an ASP technician for a help?

There's a horrible, loud beep sound that occurs whenever I plug in the power chord or the battery gets low. Both of these events happen often, so the noise is not something that I can easily ignore. I went into the control panel and turned off all the system sounds but apparently this noise isn't controlled that way. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Two easy questions  1. How do I reach the BIOS? Is it ctrl+P at startup? If so, where can I find out or make a password to put in? I just got my laptop shipped to me on August 5 and have no idea where this password is. 2. Once in the BIOS, is it pretty obvious where to find the section to disable some of the beeping noises that arent necessary? If not, can I have some help on where to find it? Thanks.

Answer:Weird Beep At Startup

Hello johnlusf and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. These types of "beep" can be caused by many things like applications or system services that cannot load properly. In some instances, there might be an error message showing in the Event logs. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

Hey guys,

My HP Pavilion dv6 3132tx has been making a beep and click noise every now and then for quite a while now (4 months +).

The noise is a beep (lasting around 1/2 second) followed by a click (and sometimes it is a beep followed by another beep of a lower tone). It happens when I am logged into windows and there are no beep codes on startup, the speakers are muted too so it's not a background noise or anything. There also does not appear to be any pattern and the beeps occur randomly, whether it be me gaming or browsing the internet.

I have tried checking the hard drive for errors by using the bios hdd checking tool, chkdsk and hdtune. All of those said that the hard drive passed so I have no idea what the problem could be.

Thanks in advance!

It may be hardware errors unfolding. For safety in case it gets worse, 1st of all (if you haven't done so aleady), do some backup'ing by imaging your disk (or as a minimum copy all your personal\important files) to an external media.

I have a X220 running windows 7. I cleaned the keyboard and now the keyboard doesn't work and there is a constant beeping sound. I'm typing using my blue tooth keyboard and everything works fine. I can't re-boot and get into setup with F1 due to the keyboard not functioning. Ideas? Thanks Kevin

Answer:x220 beep / ding noise/ key board not functiioning

Perhaps cleaning the keyboard loosened the ribbon cable connecting the X220's keyboard to its system planar (aka motherboard).
If that is the case, it should be a fairly easy fix.
Download the X220 Hardware Maintenance Manual and follow the instructions to carefully remove the keyboard, and then repeat them in reverse order to replace it.  Instructions appear in Chapter 8, are labeled "1040 - Keyboard" and start on page 67.

People where telling me I they keep hearing this weird random digital beep.Never heard it until today I put on listen to my device in the audio settings. And now I was able to record the beep.

I really like using the front pannel for my headset. Any help/ideas would be welcome! The beep recorded:

Okay here is my scenario. I started my job last year, so I have had to deal with this problem for one year. When I come to work, the first thing I do is open up Internet Explorer. Everything is messed up. The font is abnormally large, the colors are wrong, and on certain sites, the text overlaps badly. After about 3 minutes, there is a nice internal beep. The top of my browser and the bottom of the monitor(where the start menu is) flash black, then everything is back to normal. This also happens in my Outlook e-mail and other web browswers too. I have Windows XP on my computer. This problem happens everytime I restart my computer, but now it is happening everytime I log out and then back in. The funny thing is that I just got a new computer and I have the same problem that I had on my old computer. I tried switching out monitors and the problem still exists. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This problem has just occured to me today. I have my computer set up where a person needs to enter a password to get into my BIOS or have the computer boot up. Normally, when I turn on my computer, the "enter password" comes up immediately. It was delayed, and for a moment I was thinking I wasnt going to be able to get into my computer. It looked like it said it didnt detect my hard drive or something. All I know is that I got two quick short beeps(sounded internal in the computer), THEN I got my normal POST beep. If was a POST beep problem, the beeps would have sounded the same. But the 2 beeps I heard before the POST beep sounded shallow and tinny, not the same type of beep my POST does. I have heard my POST give me errors due to improperly installed vid card, so I know what the beep sounds like when there is a problem. I hope this doesnt mean that my hard drive is going to crash. I have no clue what this means, all I know is that this has never happened before in the past. Any ideas on what it could be? My system specs are:

AMD 1 Gig athalon processor
A7V133 Socket A motherboard
128 Megs of RAM
Windows 98 SE
(i scanned for viruses and found none)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Weird beep at bootup may be a problem,..please help

Beep codes are specific to the motherboard's bios. See what type of bios you have and then look up the beep codes for it (at many different sites on the net) It sounds like you got 2 short 1 long, see what that means

Diagnosis of Monitor Blank Out:
My Monitor randomly blanks out, normally after leaving my computer on for about four to five hours. Sometimes it will not blank out for several days, but every once in a while. It will just go BLACK / BLUE / GREEN / ORANGE. Just a screen full of a single color.

Now, while this happens, I noticed that it should only be the monitor. Because I created a text file whilst it was blanked out. And then I wrote something in the text file and saved it. When I restarted my machine. Everything was still there. I can even reset the machine by keyboard when it blanks out.

Diagnosis of Random Beep Noise:
Two months ago my machine started making random beep noises. This too, only happens after several hours. My machine runs perfectly otherwise. However it seems to be coming from my DVD player. I do remember one time I dropped my computer and and the DVD player came out. But it didn't make the beeping noise until two months later.

The DVD player runs perfectly. And it only beeps three to four times per week. It could possibly not be the DVD player at all. I don't know what it is. Does the computer make beeping noises when it overheats? Maybe I there is dust in the fan?

I'm having a serious problem with keyboards on my computer which is really starting to bug me!

I have been having problems with my keyboard recently but now it just got a whole lot worse. I have my PS/2 keyboard plugged in and each time I turn the computer on, is gives out a continuous low pitched beep like a crackling noise, until the Windows XP black background logo appears and then Windows loads like normal but the keyboard doesn't work.

I know it must be something to do with the motherboard, because when I take the keyboard out and boot up, there is no beeping.

This is the even stranger part which i don't understand.... I had bought one of these PS2 to USB converters which plugs onto the end of the keyboard and I plugged it into the USB, there is also no beeping sound, but although it says 'New USB Device Found' when Windows has loaded, it then goes on to say 'USB device not recognized'. I even tried this on another Microsoft keyboard and the same thing happened.

My motherboard is an Asus P4P800SE. I have had it for about 9 months. Do you think maybe it would be covered under the warranty?

Thanks for your help.

Good afternoon,I'm having trouble with my windows vista computer.  When I start it up, nothing appears and there is a beep noise.  It goes beep beep then there is a 3 second pause then another beep beep.  I don't know how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

Answer:One short beep, one long beep

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Answer:1 Short Beep, 1 Long Beep

I tried to start the computer but I am just getting one short beep followed by a long beep.  I think it has to do with the ram.  I tried reseating the ram in different combintations but none of them seem to improve the computer.  edit: oops I put this in the wrong section.  I have a desktop not a notebook   sorry for the confusion

Hopefully this is the right forum for this.  I got an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-180t CTO Desktop PC.  I know it is an old machine but it has been working okay up till the other day.  I was having some memory issues so I reseated all my ram.  Now it will not start but does one short beep then one long beep.  I figured it was a ram issue but I do not know how to solve the issue.

Hi every1, Pls help me, I've bought 2 new ram cards from Each card is (256MB 144-Pin SoDimm 32MX64 PC133Mhz) equalling 512MB, because i was told the beeps are ram problems. And they both worked fine for a while, no beeps T22 loads up, but now all of a sudden my T22 beeps when i turn it on so i've swapped the ram cards about, still beeps when i switch the laptop on. so i took 1 ram card out and tried it with just 1 card (256MB) in both slots, perfect!! no beeps and loaded up perfectly when i put the card in each slot. When i try the other card with the first card BEEPING again!!!! so i tried that card on its own in each slot and beep again, thats the second time i had to send one back. Also should my Ram cards be PC133Mhz  or PC100Mhz? Whats happening to my memory banks?????Sorry for the long message. Thank you.

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

Answer:BEEP Tic vs BEEP BEEP at start-up

What is the make/model of the system?

I turned my wife's computer on and the screen didn't even flicker and all it does is beep at me.
I tried removing on componant at a time and started it after every removal.
Still beeps at me.
Until I got to the CPU. It stopped beeping at me. Of course, every other piece was out of the puter, so I'm not sure if its supposed to stop beeping or if thats the problem.
Any ideas?

Answer:beep beep beep pc beeps

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink

It has actually happened a few times now this year and late last year.
I have my system sounds currently muted so do not waken anyone. But out of the blue all of a suden I hear a "Beep" no warning no nothing, just a plain and simple low beep.
I do not know if I should restart the laptop or if it is windows telling me to update anything or what.
Any thoughts ?
I know it is not a virus because I scan this laptop every sunday morning my time {at 0300 hours} using MSE
My system is Windows XP Professional with SP3 with initgrated audio and video and is also a Dell Laditude D620

Answer:Weird system beep, not a virus of any kind

A single low beep is normal which means the computer is ok.

A few days ago, I made a thread about beeping noise from my laptop, but looks like it's not a beep sound because I went into my laptop BIOS and disabled the beep sound.
Now, my laptop is still doing the same noise. It can't be the beep sound because I disabled it. I tried to muted the volume, but it's still doing the noise/buzz/beep randomly.
I don't know where that sound come out. I checked drivers' update, they are all up to date..
What else to do?

As the title says my PC outputs a "beep beep" sound out external speakers. It is extremely annoying. I haven't the slightest clue why it does this. Its kindof i higher pitch beep beep. all my specs are on my profile.

Answer:Computer Outputs a "beep beep" sound 1/3 times wallpaper changes. WHY?

== sound 1/3 times wallpaper changes. WHY? ==

Does that mean "one out of three times the wallpaper changes"? Have you looked in your Control Panel under Sounds and see if anything is set that might cause it?

Hey all i need some help... Ill take it from the top

I have an Asus a8n-e mobo on which the chip fan died rescently, i ran the computer for awhile without the fan and it looked like it worked fine, temps seemd fine in Asus Probe and in bios. I tried to switch the fan for a working one from an older mobo but it didnt fit and now the computer wont boot any more. It POSTs and then freezes just when the chip fan warning comes on, or if i enter bios it freezes a few secs after i get in. When i reboot i get the same thing OR i get some weird beep codes, 2 short 2 long 2 short and after awhile another, 2 short 3 long, and i cant find an answer for theese codes. I have tried to run it from out of the case with only psu, mobo, cpu, ram and switching slots on the ram sticks but no change.
So is the mobo the issue? Is there a way to test just the mobo? I cant see any problems on the mobo, chip doesnt look burnt (dunno really how it would look tho) but there is some thermal paste on it... any suggestions on this?

Asus A8N-E (Phoenix Award Bios)
AMD Atlhon64 Venice 3200+
Corsair 2x1024mb Dual DDR 3200 400mhz CL2
XFX Geforce 7900GT
Antec sonata 2 450w

thx in advance!

Answer:computer wont boot, weird beep codes

By 'chip fan' do you mean the one on the North Bridge or the one on the CPU?
If the fan on your heatsink on your CPU died, your CPU would probably be overheating and switching itself of. Either that or it died.
If you mean the one on the NB, it could also be overheating. If you don't have a fan that fits, you could either buy a new one that does or make a fanduct out of pieces of plastic or cardboard.

I own a lenovo ideapad Z560. It's still under warranty period. About 2 weeks back, I installed a fresh copy of windows. It's been working fine. Except since 2 days, during boot, it gets stuck. Weird high-pitched beep noises come and the hard drive light(the cylinder one) keeps flashing. I have no option but to manually switch off by pressing the power button and then taking my chances again. It usually boots up the second time, but I was wondering what the problem is. Is it a boot sector virus? or is it a hard drive failure? If so, does my warranty cover hard drive failures? Thanks

Answer:Z560 makes weird high-pitched beep noises at boot! HELP!

hey ashaurya97,hard to say if its a physical issue or whether its a virus; but the warranty does cover hard drive failure.

Last night, I turned off my computer and went to bed, everything was normal. Then I woke up this morning and tried to power it back on, but it won't boot, and this is all that happens:

1) The CPU fan comes on and stays on.
2) The hard drive light comes on immediately, but then stays solid. No BIOS, nothing at all. Just a blank screen. The computer will stay like this for as long as it's powered on.
3) Keyboard lights come on and stay on.
4) Checked all the motherboard connections, hard drive connection, everything is normal.
5) Computer gives off a weird odor now, like the smell of permanent marker.
5) Computer stays in this idle state with the hard drive light solid until I get sick of looking at it and I turn it back off.

One thing---last night before I shut down the computer, I disconnected my mouse while still running the OS (Windows XP). I then shut down the computer without plugging it back in, and as luck would have it, the mouse was taken from my desk, and I don't know where it is. How likely is it that this is the cause of the entire problem?

Because really, I've had similar experience like this before where the BIOS wouldn't even load, just sat there at a black screen, and a friend of mine said it was probably the BIOS itself or the hard drive, but definitely something with the hardware itself.

Thoughts? Everything is on that computer. I don't know what I'm going to do if the hard drive is shot. I'm desperate for h... Read more

For some silly reason I removed the 2 128mg PC2100DR ram sticks from my old computer that was working just fine. When I reinstalled them and I try to boot up I get a long beep, a pause, and another long beep. This senario continues and I shut the computer down as soon as possible. I'm sure I have the ram seated properly. Any ideas? Thank you in advance

Answer:One long beep, pause, another long beep when I turn on computer

If you are sure that you have them seated correctly try one stick at a time.

My Asrock K7S8X, AMD+ 2.1, 512 MB PC has always run fine, but now it starts ok although the fan seems to be racing on, then the post beep, fine, then just as the fan starts to slow and the resultant volume deceases from the aforesaid fan, a second post-style beep occurs. I have a program called MotherBoardMonitor which tells me that the minimum speed for the fan is 2500RPM, my CPU temp is (approx) 47 to 54 , Mobo temp around 31, what could the problem be, i cant find any specific info on the net after hours of looking, thanks for any help, G

Answer:startup-post beep- fan runs hard- 2nd post beep??

Before you do anything else reseat your RAM modules. If this doesn't fix it go back to basics - disconnect everything from your mobo except graphics card, power and RAM does it boot the monitor on start up? If not and you only have 1 ram module fitted beg or borrow another and try that - if you have 2 ram modules try them one at a time on their own. Post back when done and adviseRgds
