Windows update page doesn't load

Question: Windows update page doesn't load

Hi,http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com results in "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Different IE pages open randomly while browsing the web. Defenitely the sign of some virus. I have XP Pro SP3, and IE 8. Under IE's tools > options > Connection > LAN settings I found a proxy server setup. I erased those entries, but it did not help either. I scanned and removed everything with most recent versions os Malewarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner. Netstat indicates that I have several ports connected to different IPs.I also ran HiJackTHis, I'm pasting the result below. Could some one help please.Thank you.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 1:19:54 PM, on 8/16/2010Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\SSL VPN Client\agent.exeC:\Program Files\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client\vpnagent.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\RaMaint.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeIn.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeIn.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeInSystray.exeC:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exeC:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\mmc.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dllO2 - BHO: Java™ Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dllO2 - BHO: JQSIEStartDetectorImpl - {E7E6F031-17CE-4C07-BC86-EABFE594F69C} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ie\jqs_plugin.dllO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartupO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInitO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogMeIn GUI] "C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeInSystray.exe"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avast!] C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exeO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeO8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE/3000O9 - Extra button: Research - {92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263} - C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\REFIEBAR.DLLO9 - Extra button: (no name) - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exeO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exeO9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeO16 - DPF: {55963676-2F5E-4BAF-AC28-CF26AA587566} (Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Web Control) - https://69.74.143.101/CACHE/stc/1/binaries/vpnweb.cabO16 - DPF: {5ED80217-570B-4DA9-BF44-BE107C0EC166} (Windows Live Safety Center Base Module) - http://cdn.scan.onecare.live.com/resource/...lscbase6770.cabO16 - DPF: {63F5866B-A7C5-40B4-9A89-0CCA99726C8D} (LogMeIn Rescue Applet Downloader) - https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/Customer/x...eDownloader.cabO16 - DPF: {6B75345B-AA36-438A-BBE6-4078B4C6984D} (HpProductDetection Class) - http://h20270.www2.hp.com/ediags/gmn2/inst...ctDetection.cabO16 - DPF: {6E32070A-766D-4EE6-879C-DC1FA91D2FC3} (MUWebControl Class) - http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdat...b?1175912079484O16 - DPF: {E06E2E99-0AA1-11D4-ABA6-0060082AA75C} (GpcContainer Class) - https://ndcsupport.webex.com/client/T26L/support/ieatgpc.cabO20 - Winlogon Notify: AutorunsDisabled - C:\WINDOWS\O23 - Service: avast! iAVS4 Control Service (aswUpdSv) - ALWIL Software - C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exeO23 - Service: avast! Preferred Solution: Windows update page doesn't load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently I discovered that windows update on my computer doesn't work anymore. When I tried to access Windows Update page , all I got is: "This webpage is not available." in google chrome. In Internet Explorer when I try the windows update link, the browser keeps closing and restarting with no success. If trying to google about this problem concerning windows update issues I also get the browser closing and restarting. Also no succes in Mozzila Firefox nor in Apple Safari. I tried all browsers with no success: windows update page is not working ( Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), neither is it possible to update form Windows, I just can't get updates to work no matter I do.

When I tried to run Combofix to see the results, the computer freezes and I need to shutdown and restart.
I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I didn't get any objects infected.
What advice can you give me?
Thanks in advance.

PS: also on this page in this post when I tried to paste the windows update adress(link) I could not post, I get "This webpage is not available." in chrome.
In Safari: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?”. The error is: “unknown error” (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10052)
And it is only because I pasted the adress of windows update site I could not post it no matter what browser I use.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 and the Windows update page will not load. No error messages it will not load. Any Microsoft help or support that leads to anything connected with Windows update will not load. I thought I was getting auto updates, but I am missing 8 important to critical updates. I have even tried downloading IE8 but it gets stuck on the Windows update.

What to do, what to do, what to do?

TIA

Answer:Windows update page will not load.

I was in your situation with Vista 32 for 3 months. First thing is to scan for malicious software/rootkits that may have turned off update. If you are confident that is not the cause, then you will need to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory, something like SoftwareDistributionOld. You may have to first turnoff update in the Services (Administrative Tools) to do this. Reboot, and Update will recreate your SoftwareDistribution folder and you "may" then be able to update. Otherwise, like in my situation, you have a lot of heartache and google searching to do. I had to run a bits.reg routine to fix my bits (background Intelligent Transfer Services) in my registry; then I had to reregister a boatload of dll's. TurboTax 2008 had poorly installed and corrupted a number of files and registry entries.

Good luck.....

I'm working on my mom's computer remotely via LogMeIn (Home Premium SP2). A persistent problem is an inability to update the system due to the Windows Update giving me a "The page failed to load" error. This happens after I click on the "15 optional updates are available" hyperlink in the Windows Update pane. There are no critical updates.

An initial Google search returned the most common cause as being "WindowBlinds" by Stardock. This program, however, is not installed on her computer (verified by a search of programs in the "All Programs" links, "Program Files" folder, "Uninstall or change a program", and a search for "stardock" in the registry.

"sfc /scannow" in administrative mode on the command line failed to return any errors.

I also went to Microsoft's relevant Knowledge Base article here and attempted to use the Fix It program to fix Windows Update. The program successfully ran and fixed the files that were damaged (whatever they happened to be), but this did not solve the issue.

Finally, I removed threats using SUPERAntiSpyware, reregistered some .dll files as recommended by Microsoft (IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of them failed), and restarted with non-essential services disabled and startup items disabled.

you've probably heard this before but everywhere I look forums only tell of how to fix or temporarily fix it. What caused this problem in the first place? also, I keep hearing about this thing called windows blinds but everytime I type it in on google it just shows actual window blinds for houses in the results.

I think my pc may have registry problems. If i fix those with the right software will everything be normal again? sometimes when I play my games it also just shuts down unexpectedly telling me a prob caused it to close.

Don't mean to sound like a noob for this stuff but it kind of bugs me how you have to do so much research and be a tech genius in order to use windows right. I mainly want to know about this stuff because I play crysis alot and it has taught me to fix and reconfigure things on my pc in order for it to run better and I'm happy about that but I don't really want to be a techie or pc enthusiast and have to go to computer school for 4 years just so I can run my game perfectly! its driving me nuts. so any help on what I can do to solve this? know its my fault for downloading freeware and things like that when I wasnt as knowledgeble but after this gets resolved I think I know enough about pc's now to prevent any future problems. thanks guys.

Windows Vista update page will not load with information or work.
When I launch windows update in vista the page comes up blank. It gives the appearance that it is still loading. The only way to get rid of the blank page is in "start task Manager". In Task Manager it (windows update) is shown as running. There are no error messages.

Hello. This site has helped me many times to remove malware, but this is my first time posting for help. Running windows XP SP3. Explorer pops up an extra window on startup and randomly with random sites (adsonar comes up alot), they often have a large yellow congratulations banner on top. Google links all redirect elsewhere. Yahoo causes intermitent redirects. I ended up with the Antivirus Soft from one of the redirects. Also noticed I cannot access windows update whatsoever , the pages will not load, I get a page reset errorInstalled IE8, on startup it warns me that a program is trying to change my default search engine. This is the first time I encountered this kind of problem.

Everything used to be running well, until one day that my IE6 at my office couldn't load the Windows Update page and other pages that required AcitveX such as TrendMicro's HouseCall and Symantec's Security Check. They kept saying that I'm using an old version of IE and needed IE5 or later to display their pages.

I've checked all the settings for IE6 and everything seems to be in place, the system is fully patched and an up-to-date antivirus OfficeScan 7.0 is running. No virus or spyware were found by OfficeScan and Ad-Aware SE 1.05. I've run sfc /scannow and re-installed ie.inf, but still couldn't solve the problem.

There're a few strange things that I need to point out. When I clicked Help->About Internet Explorer at IE, it doesn't display the Version, Cipher Strength and Product ID, they are all left blank. And when I clicked OK, it doesn't go away... (see attachment) Everything inside my computer is licensed, so I don't know why it doesn't display the Product ID.

Another thing is that when I tried to open Windows Media Player, it just prompted me an error message saying that "An internal application error has occured.", and the media player won't load.

This problem has been troubling me because it prevents me from updating the Windows myself, so hopefully some Microsoft experts here are able to help me... Thanks a lot...

Answer:Please Help! IE6 couldn't load Windows Update Page and other pages require ActiveX

Hello! Does anyone have any idea what I can do? It's been really bothering me... Please help!!

Thanks!

But when I try using a desktop machine running ME, the page doesn't load in completely, putting up those colored placehholders. Why is this happening, and how can I fix it. I checked Internet Options, and every setting seems to be the same.
Thanks.

The page doesn't load properly every now and then and looks kind of broken.

For example, the table codes are not loaded so the left column appears as usual (but looks weird) the middle column ends up below the left column (it should be on the right of the left column if it is loaded properly). The regular bluish background doesn't load and I only see a white background.

What is the cause of this problem?

Is it a problem with the webhost server (it did not send the data well)?
A problem with my web browser (shouldn't be the case..)?
A problem with my internet connection?
or a problem with my OS and software (other than the browser)?

Answer:Page doesn't load properly - what's the cause?

Have you tried switching to Compatibility View?

Hey everybody. Hoping to find some technical guidance here. Here are the details of my problem:

Obviously, Facebook is the only webpage that will not load. I have tried it in all 3 of my browers (chrome, firefox, and IE) and every time I get the webpage is not available message as if the site is down or something. I get a not working ratio of about 80%. I don't know what makes it do it. But for example, I tried for a good 5 minutes to get FB to load with no success just now. I created my account on this forum and now FB works in chrome (the browser I've been using just now), but FB still does not work in Firefox. My cell phone will still load FB 100% of the time connected to the same internet source (a Verizon Mifi Jetpack provided by my employer). I hooked up my computer to a friends internet and FB worked without flaw on all of my browsers. My work computer also has the same problem with FB when connected to the Mifi.

So, all of this makes me want to say there is some problem with the Verizon Mifi Jetpack, but then my cell phone works 100% of the time on FB using the Mifi. Super confusing. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and I'm not sure if this is the right section; english is not my native language, so I'm sorry if I do some mistakes.
I have a desktop pc with windows 7 and from a few days firefox doesn't load any page, but the internet icon says that internet is connected.
I have a notebook with windows 8 too and with the same cable that is connected with the desktop pc it works (With the Wifi it works too).
From the "Local Area Connection Status" it says:
Ipv4 connectivity: Internet
Ipv6 connectivity: No Internet access.
I read a similar post on this forum and someone said that disabling the antivirus (I have avast) can work.
I did this and everything works.
So my question is: what should I do?
Disinstalling Avast and installing another antivirus?

Answer:Firefox doesn't load any page?

Ok I removed Avast and it works.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME ) onto another PC and burn to a CD. Since... some Days yet, I have the Problem of my Firefox [v3.6.16] not loading the Start Page sometimes.

So, I start Firefox, get a blank Page instead of Google [happens quite often], and in the lower left Corner it says 'finished'!
[Or is it 'ready' in English...?]

It did do this just on Start of Firefox - when clicking on my Start Page Button, pressing F5, or just hitting Enter in the Adress Bar again, Google will load properly. But not upon Start, sometimes!
It's driving me Nuts!

Is there any other Way to solve this other than...
A), delete the whole User Profile Folder and lose all Extensions and their Settings
B), re-install Firefox and all of its Extensions + Settings
C), get Firefox v4.0 [don't think I couold use all of my Extensions/Themes there]
D), get another Browser?

Like, which File could I import from another Profile to fix this without losing my current one...?
I have Emsisoft Anti Malware installed, every Malware/Spyware/Trojan/Virus/Worm will be detected [Behavior Scanner reports even the slightest Change in Files like the Host File], it worked every Time yet, and Scan didn't achieve any Results but 5 Trace.Tracking Cookies.
Plus, upon re-loading the Page, it DOES work, after all.

URLs it has happened with, yet:

Answer:my facebook page on IE doesn't fully load

Couple of things you can try. Sometimes malware can cause problems for IE. Run a full updated scan using your installed anti-virus suite. No AV product is 100% effective 100% of the time (if there was such a thing we'd all be using it.) So I'd also run a couple of free on-demand scanners. The more scans you run that come back "no malware found" the more likely it is your computer is malware free.

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

SuperAntispyware

HitmanPro

Once you're reasonably sure your computer is malware free you could try resetting IE9 to its default settings.

Internet Explorer - Reset

If still no joy I'd check for any damaged or corrupt system files that might be interfering with IE. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If you're still having problems this Microsoft article has some additional suggestions including how to completely uninstall/reinstall IE9.

How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer in Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP

Please post back if anything helped or not.

Thanks for the link. It worked for me first time using IE but I got a part page in both Firefox and Chromium (bit like Chrome). I don't believe it is a speed issue but something in the webpage coding. I never see anything at all similar on other websites despite browsing quite a lot with Firefox.I think we can now be about certain that it is some sort of webpage incompatibility - something that has either not kept up with later versions of Firefox, Chromium, and maybe others (as per #8) or maybe even router firewalls. There might be a clue in the fact that next time I went there in Firefox and Chromium it was fine but played up again after I restarted the computer.Maybe someone on our Web Development forum can spot what it is that is hanging it up if you give them the same link.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Viruses also cancause this.Because scanning on allive system is not credible because many viruses can hide before antivirus I suggest use LiveCD with antivirus for example this one Dr.Web LiveCD is a software product that features a standard, Dr.Web scanner ,burn boot it and scan.

I have a customer's Dell machine running W2k that won't refresh their own web site! I've deleted the temp files, but this is really not the problem anyway because I can FTP into the remote server to examine the code remotely from this same machine , and find the same problem - the code hasn't changed since December.

The page updates and refreshes normally from every other machine I've ever tested it on, so I expect everyone will say, "Works for me."

The dates should all be March dates, but the Dell machine reads the December page:

barnstableuu.org

It can't be the dialup ISP, and certainly isn't the web host because I can see it fine from my location, so it must be a local issue...

Windows 10 went wrong Again!

First I lost all my favorites, then my Computer experienced exceptions (what ever they are?) followed by random Crashes.

So I did a clean install using my ISO disc and tried to Install Page Plus X4 which was working fine before but it won't work now, even though I installed the latest patch.

I get told its an incompatible Programme, even though it worked OK before I did a clean install, with a note that says that Microsoft are looking for a Solution (you could have fooled me!) also I did the bit about using the Settings that worked on a Previous Programme but that didn't fix it either.

Also uninstalled and re installed the Programme but that didn't help either as did installing net framework.

Also when I get new emails, I am no longer getting advised of any new emails, so I have to keep checking my email box myself.

I looks like I may have to do yet another Clean Install.

I've tried turning off the Automatic Updates but that doesn't seem to work (maybe I'm doing it wrong, so how do I do that please)

Many Thanks

Answer:Page Plus X4 doesn't work after new update

Hi
1. Page Plus X4 crashes for me as well. Did you get the giveaway version recently? Win 7 compatibility doesn't work. The error isn't BEX so adding it as a DEP exception is unlikely to help. Win 10 compatibility isn't claimed, so uninstall alas.
2. No idea how you get advised of new emails, so can't advise. (I use POP peeper, freeware, which periodically scans my accounts and waves a little flag if sthg new and allows me to process mail quickly).

I've been fighting with Microsoft update web site for about a week and a half now. All of the sudden when I go there to get updates, all I get is the option to click on Express or Custom. Then when it gets to the page where ya see the green balls moving across the page while its scanning my system to see if I need any updates, it just stays there and if I stay at that page too long, my PC locks up.

I'm running XP Pro with 500MHz and 256 in ram. I've tried to contact Microsoft tech guys that I can barley understand and they have no idea what's going on. It doesn't make any difference if its a fresh install of XP Pro with nothing else installed except for my wireless card so I can connect to the net, or the current system I'm running now.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. I really don't expect any answers here because the guys who I could barley understand from Microsoft and have spent about 3.5 hrs with, had me renaming files and shutting this and shutting that off and on and nothing has worked.

They have told me that I'm the only person who has called with this kind of problem which I think is a bold face lie!

I welcome any comments or suggestions. Excuse me if I don't answer to this post right away because I'm trying every trick I know to try and get the updates my PC needs.

Prospect.

On 8 with IE10 there was no problem.
I could go to www.charter.net and successfully follow the link to TV Listings
After upgrading to 8.1 with IE11 there is a small problem. It only shows a spinning wheel and not the listings.

It does the same on another pc I upgraded to 8.1 from the store.
If I use Chrome, the TV Listings shows properly.

Any ideas or solution to fix IE11 without switching to Chrome for one page?

Thank you.

Answer:IE11 failing to load 1 link on page after 8.1 update

In IE11, you should be able to upper right corner to Tools then to Compatibility View settings, just click the Add button then just add that page to the list of pages that require compatibility mode.

My problem now is when I try to access Microsoft’s Windows Update page all I get is a BLANK white screen with a message "Done” in the bottom left corner. I get the same results when I go to the Symantic Security Check web page and I click on the GO button to do the security check, it open a new BLANK white window???

Hi

Im new to this website. I would like some help if possible.

When I switch on my computer it goes through all the loading process. Then to the welcome page, I type in my password, it then goes to the desktop but then nothing happens all I can see is my background and nothing else. I have never seen this before. I would be grateful of any advice.

cheers

olly

Answer:windows will not load after welcome page

it seems like "explorer.exe" is not loading. after the background loads, open task manager, go to "file, new task" and type in "explorer.exe." if everything loads after doing this, then some registries entries may be corrupt.

post back with results of the above suggestions.

hi! i'm new here.i have a problem with my windows sp. my windows doesn't load, there's just a windows starting sound and wallpaper loaded. when i open windows task manager, it shows something like this. http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=u...led1copykx3.jpgbut it's not every time i turn on my notebook. and sometimes windows starting very slowly, and cannot connect to the internet (LAN).and if it runs ok, it would be a pop up, i think of the LAN. http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1tr0.jpgwhat can i do?thank you.

Answer:Windows Doesn't Load

In Task Manager - go to File, then to New Task. Type in "explorer.exe" (wihout the quotes) and press Enter.Does this restore your desktop? Also, try iexplore.exe to see if you can bring up Internet Explorer. If you can, then go immediately to http://safety.live.com and perform the free online scan. The second image is an alert telling you that the site that you're trying to visit doesn't have a valid security certificate. It's a caution for you - so if you don't know what site it is - don't go there!

Hi. I'm having issues getting Windows to load up. It hangs after that "Windows XP" screen with the loading bar. I'm able to load into Safe Mode normally.

I've tried System Restoring to several points with no luck. I've also tried booting up without the services and startup running, no good.

Any help would be appreciated...let me know what other info you need. I have Service Pack 2.

Hi,   About a week ago I restarted my computer and when I tried to turn it back on I get a black screen which starts out saying " We apologize for the incovenience but, Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this...."It then gives me 5 options how to start windowsSafe ModeSafe Mode with NetworkingSafe Mode with Command PromptLast Know Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)Start Windows NormallyThe default is at "Start Windows Normally" and at the bottom it says "Seconds untill Windows starts: 25"The 25 will count down. If I press Enter to select Start Windows Normally the counter just freezes. But will eventually load the normal Startup Page which Says Microsoft Windows Xp Home Edition and has the progress bar at the bottom. After about 10 seconds. The computer restarts itself and the loop continuesIf I use the arrow keys to scroll to a different option. The thing that says "Seconds untill Windows starts:" disapears. When I press Enter nothing happends. After about 2 minutes the Startup screen will load and then the computer restarts. I did a repair install last night and my Windows 10 Anniversary Update was working just fine. I turn my computer on today, I see the initial Windows logo and the loading circle, the logo disappears but the loading circle is still there several minutes later with a black screen behind it. Can someone tell me what's going on, and how I can fix this?

Answer:Windows doesn't load

I would leave it a while longer in case the installation hasn't completed. Your PC might have entered a repair loop. For a desktop PC, unplug at the mains press the power on button for 30 secs then restart. For a laptop, you would need to disconnect the battery for a minute.

Post for more help if that doesn't work.

After a recent move I booted up my computer to find I have a problem. When I turn it on the usual loading screens (bios, wndows loading, etc) do not appear. Instead it goes straight to the desktop, but it is not right either. My usual icons are not there, there is no taskbar (and no it is not hidden). Mouse and keyboard work but nothing else does. CTRL ALT DELETE doesnt work, right click then properties doesnt work. Its like the only thing that loaded was the desktop background, but the rest of the hard drive didn't. I am running windows xp. THe computer was working perfectly fine before I moved it. I tried booting in safe mode but there is no way to do it.

I checked to see if every thing was connected properly, but all the cables are in solid. Please let me know if you can help me out.

Answer:Windows doesn't load?

have you knock the pc or something?

you do have a problem if your bios screen is,nt loading.

Try and see if your graphic card is set in right.

Back up anything if you can and re-format the harddrive.

If this does,nt work you could of damage your pc moving it.

In the past couple of months my laptop has been acting strange. It started with my USB mouse not working. It would work one minute then not the next and I would have to unplug and put it into a different USB port until it quit working altogether but worked fine in another computer. After the mouse incident; it started something different. I'd leave the room with a webpage open and come back to a screen saying windows wouldn't load and to either system restore or use the other option for it to fix the windows problem.  System restore will not work; it says the files are not existant and the other option doesn't work either. I get a 'windows start up has failed do you want to send a report to microsoft?' and that will not work either. I have to press restart over and over and over and it will not load windows. So I have to shut it down and wait awhile before I can attempt to start it up again/ Somethings it works and sometimes it doesn't and I have to do it all over again. As time goes by, i notice it;s getting more frequent. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? THe laptop is only three years old. It's an Acer Aspire. Thanks in advance!

hi all,

not sure what's wrong, it's been since yesterday that my PC won't start. The first thing I did was to use the windows start CD and followed the procedure suggested here http://www.tomshardware.com/news/win7-windows-7-mbr,10036.html

I went on the BIOS changed the Hard drive BBS to the SSD, and normal HHD, nothing..
oi reboted from the CD i did select the command prompt recovery tool, and
executed the bootrec.exe /FixMbr, which worked, but then the PC still doesn't load windows....

Any input is welcome, thank you!

After having some problems, I have reinstalled windows normally, everything seemed going smoothly, but while the pre installation was loading, at around 80% i started to get these messages: impossible to copy the file logonui.exe , drmcien.dll , drmv2clt.dll
so I ignored these files, the pre installation finished, then I didn the actual installation, but... something happened.
When windows starts up now, it enters in an infinite loop, it starts, but then rather than loading the OS, it goes in the start page again (the one where i am asked if i want win 2k or xp) it keeps on starting over again but... the OS doesn't load....
what can I do?

This is in response to Broni's request and judgment to repost my problem here.As he suspected, after running a GMER test, it may indeed be a malware problem. It started a while back, with not much info to go on. Well, Firefox froze one time. But rather than just Firefox freezing the whole laptop froze, so I eventually forced rebooted it. However, upon doing so, the laptop was suddenly very slow, but that wasn't the biggest issue. The issue was that it wouldn't go past the wallpaper. Now it doesn't get even past the welcome screen. I can get into safe mode, but I can't use the internet from there, as my internet involves an old Speedtouch USB modem that requires software that doesn't load in safe mode. That means of course that even though I have MBAM or McAfee on there, I can't update it. Also system restore doesn't work at all.I've ran DDS and Gmer. I am not sure how this started or what exactly I did to create this but I cannot get IE to run on my Windows 8 machine. This is a fairly new (one month old) laptop I bought with Windows 8 on it.

IE was working OK on this machine, but I must have done something wrong over the weekend. I also installed Firefox over the weekend too (out of frustration with IE, could that have caused a problem?). Firefox is operating fine, so I know I have a functional internet connection. When I open IE, it just spins its wheels forever and times out, regardless of what site I am trying to open.

I disabled all add-ons in IE (Tools | Programs | Manage Add-Ons and disabled all).

I "reset" IE doing the following steps:
a. Press Windows key + R then type ?inetcpl.cpl? without quotes and press Enter.
b. Under Advanced tab, click on Reset.
c. Check the Delete personal settings box.
d. Click on Reset and then Close.

I have restarted my laptop. I can run Firefox fine but cannot get anything to load in IE. I'm lost. Any ideas?

I was about to play a game yesterday. While the game was loading the screen flashed many different colors and made a weird sound. I hit the reset button and expected to boot back into Windows. Windows went through the first load then came to the second with the Windows 2000 logo. It loaded about 80-85% then stopped. I returned later and it still had progressed. I got a little worried and tried booting into safe mode. This did not work. I then popped in the Windows 2000 install disk and tried repairing it. It repaired and I tried rebooting into Windows. The same thing happened. I repaired again and the same results slapped me in the face. I had installed Fedora Linux on an IDE hard drive a week or two before. I popped in this hard drive and tried booting into Linux. The Fedora blue screen only loaded just a little bit and wouldn't go any further. I tried again and the same thing happened. I put the Windows hard drive back in and it still wouldn't start. I even reinstalled Windows over the current Windows 2000 file system. Oh yeah, when booting, Windows say there is a power issue and go into setup. I press delete and enter the bios. Under the power control there is a 12+v or something and it's in red. It's like.. 9.81 or something. Is this something with the power supply? Could it be a video card issue? I need your help very much.

First off, sorry if someone has already posted with this issue. I am a strong believer of "if you can't find it on Google, you'll never find it", but this is really starting to get on my nerves a bit as I've spent hours of my time trying to get to the bottom of it!

9 times out of 10, when i open an explorer window, (whether it be 'My Computer' from both desktop shortcut and start menu shortcut or control panel, devices and printers etc) I get a blank window. The green loading bar at the top slowly progresses through and then hangs towards the end. I once left it for 3 hours to no effect.

I was wondering if you guys had any idea on what the issue could be and how i could fix it.

If i restart my machine, it fixes the issue briefly, then starts again.

I have found a work around however. If i open my computer, then right click the 'My Computer' shortcut on the right hand tool bar and click 'Open in new window', explorer opens perfectly and then works for about half an hour before breaking again!

Hopefully you all have enough information and some genius out there will solve what i could not.

Thanks guys

Answer:Windows Explorer Doesn't Load

As a side note. I tried to replicate the issue in safe mode and as far as i'm aware, there wasn't one... But obviously the screen res was making my eyes implode, so i couldn't stay like that for too long.

Thanks

Hi, i have E50. Decided to upgrade to SSD(240GB) and use HDD(1TB) as a second drive that is mounted using caddy(some cheap chinese model with a lot of good reviews). Unfortunately i have faced a problem. If i have only SSD pluged in windows work just fine, but if i mount caddy BIOS can see that there is second drive but Windows doesn't load, it's stuck in the loading screen and stays like that forever(at least 15min TBH)  What i have tried:- mounting caddy when windows is already loaded(yeah, not very smart), but it doesn't show up in device manager even though green light on caddy is on.- pluging in HDD as external storage with SATA-USB adaptor. This way it works fine. I've formated it and mounted using caddy. Nothing changed.- searching for different SATA drivers, but there are none.- messing with BIOS setting, but there are no setting related with this issue.- deleting Intel rapid storage technology drivers(it helped for someone with B series), but there were no IRST on my system. can it be that motherboard can't deal with SATA-type torage that exceeds 1TB?

Hi,
I have tried everything in order to get my Windows 8 store to load so I can upgrade to 8.1.
Nothing seems to work, I have tried a clean boot, resetting settings, change date/time, clear proxy etc.
The weird thing is IE works in desktop mode but doesn't work in metro mode.
Does this have something to do with it?
I am at a loss and it is very annoying!
Thanks,

Hi,

I've got Windows XP and when I boot up, all I get is the desktop background, windows explorer doesn't load up.
I've searched for similar problems, and some have found that it is possible to manually start explorer but
if I ctrl+alt+delete, I get the task manager, but when I go to file>new task, and enter 'explorer.exe'
Windows cannot find the file. I've looked in the windows folders, but explorer.exe appears to have vanished.
If I start in safe mode, I get the same problem.
I've tried system restore via msconfig, but there are no restore points other than with today's date. When I tried to restore to this, it said it was not possible.

I've downloaded hijack this via my laptop, here is the log.

The other night we had a power outage. The next morning I booted my computer only to get the "Windows Repair" or "Start Normally" options. I chose Normal to begin. Windows never loaded after almost an hour. I shut down and chose Repair the second time. Windows loaded files but never booted into windows after even a couple hours of letting it sit. I bought a new harddrive thinking that might be the problem. I've tried booting from the Win 7 DVD on both the old and new drive. I get to the "Starting Windows" screen and it just sits there on both drives. I've let it set for as much as 4 hours. I've looked through the forums but have not found this exact problem. I've tried the AVG boot disk and it crashes also. Any ideas?

Hi all,
I've been having start-up problems. Whenever I put on my laptop, it loads to the place where I put in my password and doesn't load the desktop. It simply displays a dark/black screen with my cursor only. I have to keep forcing a shutdown and rebooting hoping my desktop will load. Meaning once it gets to my user account screen and I put in my password, it attempts to load me into the desktop screen but I end up with my cursor and a blank screen. But in safemode, the desktop loads alright. Any suggestions please?

looks like the user profile settings are amiss. I would first try a system restore to see if you can get it back to operating normally. Click start, go to accessories; then to system tools; then to system restore and see what the most recent restore point is before this started happening and i would tell it to restore back to that point. (i hope im on the right path here with this answer)

Hi. My laptop suddenly won't start. It's an HP, and it freezes at the Windows logo with the bars going across. Sometimes it will suddenly fade like a film strip melting. Does anyone know how to get past this? I've tried safe mode and it still won't boot up.

Thanks for your help.

On booting up, my Windows XP Home does not load past the "Welcome" page. In other words, it only boots up to my user account icons. When I press any of my user account icons, it then loads the usual "Welcome" page with your personal user icon and doesn't load any further, just sitting on that page. If I do a Control/Alt/Delete, next to the account user icon it says, "loading your personal settings", but nothing loads, it just stays on that "Welcome" page.

This is a problem because I can't get into any of my files/tools/etc to do anything about it. In other words, I appear to be locked out.

I am thinking it may be a virus/worm/etc because my McAfee Security anti-virus is way out of date, but I regularly clean up with Adaware and other windows devices. My 60G hard drive has about 14% free space. I take it I can't even reformat or save any files that I need?
I pressed F8, got the black screen, scrolled up to "Safe Mode" pressed enter.

A list of files started loading up......it then goes to the coloured Windows user account screen. I choose "Administrator" icon... it goes to a black screen with "safe mode" written in all four screen corners with one line at top reading: "Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600.xpsp-sp2..........Service Pack 2)
but nothing further comes up.

I pressed enter, nothing happns..
I pressed F8, nothing happens..
I did control/alt/delete and the windows "... Read more

One night i was using my laptop just fine then the next morning windows wouldn't load after the Dell logo. The cursor is still visible and movable, but the screen is black. Really need to get it working again as buying a new laptop is not a option right now and i need it for school. I will give you all the information i can, but it's kinda hard with not being able to check my laptop stats as its not working. Any help would be appreciate a lot.
Thank you.

I have never upgraded any parts.
F8 is not working to factory restore.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place.

Answer:Windows 10 Doesn't Load After Dell Logo.

You might try doing a (google) search for "black screen dell windows 10" and evaluating some of the information in the results to see if one of the workarounds might apply in your case.
I had what reads like a similar issue to what you describe many months ago, and one of the workarounds allowed me to regain access and address the underlying issues.
Good luck.

My computer got infected with 'Winsecurity toolbar 2.1' (a spyware) and to fix it, I installed and ran SuperAnti Spyware (reviews say it's good). It then asked me to restart the pc, which I did manually. When it reached the 'click your username to continue' stage, the usernames weren't there. I opened my user with Ctrl+Alt+Del but then only the wallpaper showed up, no icons. I then tried to load it in safe mode but now only the blue screen ('windows is starting up...') appears and it doesn't go any further.

Please find me a solution. ANY help would be highly appreciated...

Many thanks...

Answer:Why doesn't Windows load (not even in safe mode)?

Once you log in (without any icons)
Do a Ctrl + Alt + Del again
Hopefully Task Manager opens
Click on File-->Run-->explorer.exe

Do your icons now show?

If so, do the following:
Check the Shell value for Winlogon in your registry (start->Run->Regedit). Under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
should show:

Shell REG_SZ explorer.exe

Or download this tool: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_FixLogon.zip
This utility checks for the correct GINA value in the Registry and will allow you to restore it, if its incorrect.

So I recently upgraded my motherboard, RAM, and CPU. After doing some quick adjustments in the BIOS, I attempted to load into Windows to make sure everything was correct. Upon the Windows loading up, the logo freezes for a second, a BSOD appears (which I cannot read as it disappears within a fraction of a second) and the computer restarts.

I've already gone through a couple of passes using Memtest without any errors, so I think the RAM can be ruled out. I was hoping I could get advice on how to prevent the computer from restarting so I can see the BSOD and further provide information depending on the error.

Answer:Computer Upgrade - Windows Doesn't Load

You may or may not know this, but when upgrading the motherboard and CPU, it's best to do a fresh install of Windows. When moving to a brand new motherboard (specifically of a different model, same with CPU), Windows sometimes won't be able to load due to the configuration change.

If you can get around this, there's still the off chance of performance issues and just a whole mess of things. I would recommend a brand new Windows install, as it should be.

Ok, when i tried to remove a virus by deleting some registrys, i may have deleted some wrong registrys that starts up the computer. When i restarted the computer windows comes up normally but it does not load anything, its just loads the background and nothing else. I tried restarting in safe mode and "using last good configuration" with windows 2000 professional, but it just stays at a blank screen. The only way I can think of fixing this is to create a floppy disk with my other computer to fix the registry, i have no access to the registry though my other computer. Any help?

I have a basic hp deskjet d1660. The file downloads fine, extracts and nothing. Ran Combofix, it found infections and resolved but I still can not load my printer. I have tried manually also with no results. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a gateway laptop. Plenty of memory on this computer. I have an espon scanner installed no prob and the printer is loaded on 2 other laptops no problem.
Thank for any help.

Answer:Windows doesn't load printer driver

Combofix should be used as part of a malware removal process, not as a standalone tool. The probability that you are still infected with malware is extremely high.

I suggest you follow this guide to create a malware removal thread.

Hi all! I had my laptop running last night and I woke up this morning and my computer was frozen. It wasn't the "blue screen of death" as many mention as it was simply frozen but when I turned it back on (and continue to turn it back on) it gets stuck on "Starting Windows" without even proceeding to the Windows log-in screen. Next, when I launch a "system repair" it goes through the process but freezes in the blue "system repair" screen without even showing anything..just the blue background sunshine screen and is just stuck there...under "Advanced Boot Options" the "Last Known Good Configuration" gives me no luck either...I then try "Safe Mode" and under "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" it freezes while "Loading Windows Files" and the last file/driver it shows is \windows\system32\DRIVERS\AtiPcie.sys

I don't know what else to do...I have a Windows 7 64-bit boot disc but this is my small laptop which doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I can use my USB drive if necessary but I attempted to do that but maybe there is some special way I must install it on my USB drive?? Otherwise I am completely stuck and I am hoping someone can help me out...this is driving me crazy! Thanks again in advance..

Answer:Windows doesn’t load on my Satellite L850D-12P

Hi

I don?t use Win8 and I don?t know if this will help but you can try it.
Start your notebook and press F12. When you will see menu options choose recovery options and follow the menu on the screen.

You should have access to recovery main menu and several options for recovery or repair as described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm

Try to make system restore and roll it back to earlier time before your problem started. System restore option you should find in ?Advanced options?.

I had an E-machine that I had Windows XP on (OEM CD direct from Microsoft). I took the hard drive, CD-Rom drive and DVD drive out and put them in a new Antec Sonata II case with a 450 watt PS, ASUS A8N5X motherboard, Athlon 64 3800+ CPU, PNY GeForce 6600 PCI-E graphics card and a Mitsumi 7in1 floppy. My problem is that after power on and making the neccessary BIO'S update and changes the next screen gives a choice of windows startups because of significant hardware changes (rememember I the old hard drives with windows is still there). If I choose "normal startup" mode I get a loop that reboots the computer and takes me back to the same screen. The same thing happens the second time I choose "normal startup" It loops again, but, this time it locks up my keyboard (unlocks if I turn the machine off and back on). Ditto on the choices for "Last known good configuration" and "Safe" mode. I have even tried reloading windows from my CD, but it locks up on the Black windows logo screen. Can anyone help me before I have to through good money after bad by calling Microsoft (microcrap).

Answer:Windows XP doesn't load after major hardware changes

If you have replaced the Motherboard unless it is exactly the same as the old one then you will have to re-install Windows other wise it won't work.

Following a malware problem... and not getting explorer loaded from user login...
Got Windows 10 burnt to a DVD and reinstalled etc... and all filed/programs remain...
BUT
when booting up I have exactly the same problem...
ie.. once logging in to my profile (and I have set up a second profile and the same occurs) I then get a small 'window' bottom left of the screen... "Windows Script Host settings" and a blank screen and the only way I can access my profile/content is by ctrl+alt+del and then task manager and type in "explorer.exe" - everything then works as normal... including internet and getting access to web pages such as this....
All works ok once getting access... BUT it doesn't seem right and this has happened AFTER getting some malware downloaded.... and seemingly removing it... Autocare - have since scanned using Kaszpersky, Malwarebytes and Hitman pro.. and all clean...
Help anyone?

Answer:Explorer.exe doesn't load once logged in to Windows PC

Run your antivirus software full-scan again. Then run Disk Cleanup tool or CCleaner to clear up residual PC junk. Having done this Rin System File Checker (Open CMD, type sfc /scannow and hit Enter).
Also see if Windows explorer.exe does not start at startup helps you.

Hi,

I am having problems with Windows Backup software which comes with windows 7. The software simply doesn't load. Whenever I try to click the program to open it whether its in the start menu or in the control panel nothing happens. I have tried using other alternatives to it like EaseUS Todo Backup Free 6.5 and AOMEI Backupper Standard Edition 2.0 I am trying to backup exactly 334gb and although both of these programs say they will do complete backups of your harddrive. AOMEI Backupper Standard Edition 2.0 only backuped 150 gbs of the total space of my harddrive and EaseUS Todo Backup Free 6.5 backuped only 250 gbs of my entire 334 gbs. I have a feeling that windows backup not working might be a problem in the Registry. But could the solution be simpler than editing the Registry which could destroy my computer's operating system. Could I please have some help getting Windows Backup to where it opens so I can do a complete backup of my harddrive???
Thanks,
Alex

Hi,
I'm having a problem with catalyst drivers. I installed Win7 32-bit yesterday and everything was working fine until I installed catalyst control center, which now causes the system to stay stuck on the blue windows wallpaper without explorer or mouse cursor. I can get to safe mode and perform a system recovery, then I can boot normally. I also tried multiple versions of drivers, but it always does the same thing. Im using Radeon HD5770, Gigabyte P43T-ES3G Mobo, Intel Core2Quad 2,5 GHz (not sure about the exact model number) and 4 GB Ram. Everything worked fine before reinstalling windows and my system specs are exactly the same as they were before. Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer:Windows doesn't load after installing ati drivers.

It could be a dead or faulty graphics card. Is the card correctly installed and all the cables attached including any extra power cables?
