Preferred Solution: Very slow and wont load ad aware or update windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I've run all kinds of scanners so far and still have had no success in getting rid of the spyware, malware, or virus I have!! Whenever I try to go to the MS Update website, IE7 shows the URL as "http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/", however it takes me to the Google (english version) home page. When I try to click on search links in Google after running a search, it takes me to some random ad website on the first click, and if I go back to the search listings and click on the link a second time it will actually go through to the desired website.Further, on trying to go to the Lavasoft updates website, it will not allow me to download the updates. When I click on the link for the download, it takes me to the IE cannot display webpage notification. The link I am trying to download from is: http://dlserver.download.lavasoft.com/public/defs.zip. I cannot run the internal update options on Spybot or Ad-Aware either as they say they cannot connect to the server. In short, there is something definitely wrong and after running extensive searches and applications of all sorts. I have tried Trend Micro online scanner, Panda Security's online scanner, Spybot, Ad-Aware, SpyDoctor, Microsoft Live Online Scanner, Symantec Antivirus and more. I've even installed Autorun Eater and TeaTimer to try to get to the bottom of this, and to no avail! I think its time to let the pros here take a look!! Thank you for your help in advance! During the final stage of a windows update my com. shut off. Now I get the motherboard start up screen, with the option to access the BIOS, then it says "Loading Operating System" then it loops back to the bios screen again. I went into the BIOS selected to boot from DVD, and when it asks to Boot from CD to press any key...I do,and it still loops back to the BIOS screen!!! I can't break the cycle.

Answer:Shutdown during win 7 update...windows wont load

Hi,Kindly follow the below mentioned steps in order:1.Confirm Hard Drive is recognized in BIOS. If yes, follow next step. If NO, load BIOS defaults.2.Boot to Safe mode and perform system restore. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only. If system restore fails or unable to access safe mode, follow next step. 3.Run Start Up repair from the URL mentioned: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/...4.If the issue still persists, then try running the Hardware Diagnostics. If you get any error code, make a note of the error code. Thanks & RegardsDebbie B#iworkfordell

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

if 8 or 10 then attempt to boot at least 5 times and winsows should then detect a problem and boot to the advanced tools (REcovery enviroment) where you can try a startup repair or a system restore.

I need help!i know a bit more than the average person about computers and i can usually resolve my computer issues on my own but im stumped! the first time i had an issue was a couple months ago when amd prompted me to update my graphics driver, so i did....after updating  i restarted the computer and i would get to the windows loading screen then,  a black screen with just the loading "ring" shownig. i restarted the machine a few times asnd got the same thing,  so eventually i got to the startup repair screen and i used system restore to bring the computer back to the point before i installed the new driver. after that it worked fine for a few months.  just last week i had the same issue with the black loading screen so i did a system restore again andt windows loaded fine after that, until the screen went to sleep then it refused to come back on and would not boot up again. i had not updated the graphis driver so im not sure what caused it this time and since then thats what has been happening i have tryed restarting it time after time and it will eather freeze at the black loading screen, or will  boot into windows very slowly, then crash again. i have also tryed system restore a few more times and it just boots up once then crashes again i have even tryed repalcing the hard drive and putting a fresh windows 10 install on it and it, but  just does the same thing again. the strangest thing for me is that it seems t... Hi,

I was watching a youtube video and there was a loud scream in the video which at point a loud distorted version of that scream continually played with the video continuing to play with no audio whilst the distorted sound continued. The mouse was movable (but may of froze shortly after, cant remember) but I shut down by holding the power button for 10 seconds (because of the noise). Now when I turn on it loads as normal till the user account screen but after I login the desktop will either not load and be blank with curser visable and moveable, or the desktop will load and be functional but incredulity slow. It takes 10 to 15 to load desktop and icons and clicking on an icon such as chrome or itunes takes 10 to 30 mins load. On one occasion after being logged on for 25 mins the login sound played showing how out of sync it was. Windows boots and operates normally in safe mode and the only fix I've attempted is disabling start up programs, but to no avail. I've scanned for viruses and avg picked up nothing, i also ran spyware and removed selected problems, but the problem persists.

I'm pretty basic in my knowledge when it comes to these things, so any help is extremely appreciated.

I apologize if this has been posted in the wrong forum, i'm new to TSF

Thanks in advance.

Jon

I have had this myself as has my daughter (both on XP - no nothing of Vista problems) and we found the easiest solution was to download either the old or new (2007) version, uninstall and reinstall.

Backstory (skip if you need)
I'm fixing someones laptop, It was slow and taking 30 minutes to startup, i did the usually virus scan and restarted, then it was stuck in an auto repair loop. I used a windows 8 Install CD from microscoft. None of the options in it would work, install (key doesnt match) reset (missing partition), image recovery (cant find an image), restore (no restore point), etc.

Used command prompt, did stuff like bootrec, bcdedit, diskpart, and chkdsk. After it ran chkdsk it finally loaded windows. I reset/reinstalled the OS completely. Fixed, restarted, running smooth. Owner said it was working great for a day, then after turning it back on it was in an auto repair loop.

Now
It's stuck in a preair loop, I can't even boot from the 8 CD! The weird thing is, Windows 7 disks boot fine, but it's "not compatible". And if I physically remove the HDD, it will boot into the windows 8 CD. Answer:Windows wont load, Boot CD wont load, Automatic Repair Loop

UPDATE:

I got a windows 8.1 disk made and it allowed me yo boot from the CD, but it's SLOOOOW, it takes minutes to load reset or w.e (none of them still work), or open the command prompt.

I ran chkdsk /f /r /x but it didnt help. chkdsk /r ends with:
"A disk read error occurredcc0000185
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream."

Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.

Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull
/rebuildBCD - Total identified Windows installations: 0
/scanOS - Total identified Windows installations: 0

Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."

Next sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
Then sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows
"Windows resources protection didnt find integrity violations"

BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files

Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

Been trying to download & install definitions file

SE1R125.06.10.2006,Date:06.10.2006

and when I tell it to download, the "Retreiving Update" bar go's to 100% and after 30 seconds or so a box with an X in a red circle appears which says, "The downloaded definitions file could not be read, please update again". I try again with same results.

I've tried downloading it with everything except 'Systray' and 'Explorer' off and still no luck. AVG, and SpyBot downloaded OK this morning but not AdAware.

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm using Freeware version: "Installed core application 1.06r1 Personal"

Hi everyone,

I have encountered the problem with my Dell PC.

When I am casually browsing online, sometime a black empty command box will pop up for 1 second and then disappear. And sometime it will pop up again 1 second later, and disappear immediately.

And then when I go to document folder, and nothing will be in the folder, the pathway box at top will be loading the green bar, it will takes forever, eventually it will get stuck, without showing any documents in the folder while in reality, it has several files saved. It was impossible to use outlook email app as well. And it will take a while for the mouse pointer to stop being refreshed. Dell PC will get stuck, and I won't be able to shut it down by clicking on shut down option using mouse pointer, only way I can shut down the PC is to press the physical button of shut down.

And then I will turn on the PC, which may take several attempt, and when it finally work, I will get notification at right bottom corner of my desktop which will say "Failed to connect to a Windows service. Windows couldn't connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents standard users from signing in. As an administrative user, you can review the system event log for details about why the service didn't respond."

Sometime it will work, and document folder will open instantly, showing all the files without any problem.

I did run diagnostic on this PC via boot menu with F12 key. No problem was found.

Hello

I have windows 7 running on a HP Pavilion dm4 laptop.  Lately windows is very slow to start -close to 5 minutes just to get to the log in screen.  Also, the updates will not install.  I am getting various error messages and when I try to look them up I get general information.

I have done a disk cleanup, defragged and removed some unneeded programs.  I am going to do the Security Tango also.

What should I try next?

Ann

Answer:Windows is extremely slow to load and won't update

Welcome Ann,
If your self help attempts don't clear the problem [I suspect that they may not]. Or if you can't download, install, update and run any of the scanners please quit trying by yourself and go to the Am I Infected forum and get expert assistance.
Continuing to try different things without a plan can make things worse.

I just finished the topic http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/239868/avg-disabled-cannot-uninstall/. I took all the advice including downloading Online Armor. Today I started up my computer and there was an error on AVG saying it was outdated. I tried to update, it wouldnt work. I then tried to open and update Ad Aware to see if there was anything, that would not update either. I then updated successfully Malwarebytes Anti Malware, ran a full scan, nothing. Note that AVG is enabled, it just won't update. So I am unprotected, and I just recently uninstalled and reinstalled on that last topic. What could be going on to cause this in two programs?!?? Please help, I would really appreciate it, thank you so much for all your help.Jessica

Answer:AVG and Ad-Aware wont update; just finished cleaning computer

When you tried to update AVG, did you get an error message of some sort? What did it say?***************************************************Also, please note that mvps.org is no longer recommending Spybot S&D or Ad-Aware due to poor testing results. See here - (scroll down and read under Freeware Antispyware Products) Further, most people don't understand Spybot's TeaTimer or how to use it and that feature can cause more problems than it's worth. TeaTimer monitors changes to certain critical keys in Windows registry but does not indicate if the change is normal or a modification made by a malware infection. The user must have an understanding of the registry and how TeaTimer works in order to make informed decisions to allow or deny the detected changes. Additionally, TeaTimer may conflict with other security tools which do a much better job of protecting your computer and even prevent disinfection of malware by those tools.More effective alternatives are Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware Free.~Blade

I am constantly having redirects and new tabs spontaneously open to spammy websites in both IE and Firefox. I cannot get to Windows Update, it either says it can't connect or takes me to a fake search engine page. Windows is very slow to load at start, and after working for a little while, I tend to get Generic Host Process for Win32 Services errors, after which my machine locks up.

Malwarebytes has not found anything. AVG says it finds 6 infections and fixes 3. The infections are in svchost.exe, iexplorer.exe, and explorer.exe, where it says that a Trojan horse Agent_r.XJ Object was removed from each.

I do have access to my Windows XP Install disk.

Thanks so much for your help,

I recently installed Windows XP and all my programs on a new hard drive, as the old one would not boot. Last week I received a "Generic host process for Win32 services" error. My machine locked up, and I had to restart. Then I started having issues where Windows would not load or would take a very long time. I am able to start Windows in Safe Mode, but it takes much longer than it should.

Now sometimes when starting IE or Firefox or when surfing, new tabs are started on spammy webpages. Other times, IE or Firefox will not start. I also cannot go to the Windows Update site.

Neither Malwarebytes nor Avast find any instance of infection.

AVG says that it finds 6 infections and repairs 3. Just in case it would help, here is that part of the AVG log file:
(C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe (3440):\memory_001a0000 Trojan horse Agent_r.XJ

Hello.
My Pc is an amd athlon 64, 322+, 2.1ghz with 448 mb of ram. Its a windows xp 2002 home edition with service pack 2.

My computer works fine with no problems except this one.
Recently we found a trojan and a trojan backdoor downloader! we have completly removed these and use counterspy & avg for our protection.

The problem we now have is any program we use which uses the folder 'My Documents' runs stupendously slow and sometimes freezes. 'My Documents' itself can take 20 mins to start, if it does. If it opens, opening anything inside my documents is impossible. I cannot burn anything off from my documents in nero as it freezes & sending anything on msn from my documents also has the same effects, so as you can anything linked to the folder or uses anything from the folder 'My Documents' dosent work.

Can anyone please help as we have years of photos and music on our pc and would hate to lose it all.

Answer:Solved: My Documents Slow/wont Load

I am having the EXACT same problem!

When I try to get an update from Microsoft it tells me the following:

Install the ActiveX control required to view the website
The website will not display correctly on your computer without this control. To install it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just below the address bar.
2. In the right-click menu, click Install ActiveX Control.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.

Note: If the Information Bar doesn't appear, or if you've installed the control but still can't use the website, take these steps to solve the problem.

I have no"bar" to clik below the explorer bar. I have seen it pop up before but it doesn't with this website. This is keeping me from getting updates. Any suggestions???

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal.
First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly.
After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects. someone please help

Answer:windows 7 refuses to load and system repair wont load

Do a hardware/software reset with your BIOS:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

After doing those steps, clear your CMOS by entering the BIOS (see your system manual for steps to enter the BIOS), going to the EXIT screen, and loading setup/optimized defaults.

When experiencing problems during or after power state transitions, the first step is to ensure that the BIOS and all drivers (video, NIC, audio, anti-virus...) are up to date.

I dont have a vista disc or anything like that, does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can solve this problem, sorry if my explanation was short and not very detailed.

thanks in advance

Answer:Vista wont load after update error

Um, I believe you will need some kind of disk. Specifically, you'd need either the Vista disc or the ERD disc. You need to launch a repair on your OS, as it seems to be screwed. Can you get into Safe mode? Can you get into the pre-boot menu at all?

Hello, my windows 7 starter just cannot start. When i last switched off my comp, it has an update on the shut down button, so i shutted down with 20 updates. The next time i switched on my comp, i was unable to even get to the login page. The whole screen is just appeared installing 1 out of 9436 updates with black background. After the 9436 updates, the whole screen turned black with no words, nothing. I cant get to the login page. Then i only can turn off the plug. After that i tried swithcing on again. The computer told me to do a windows fix since my windows is unable to start. Then, the windows open into desktop and i was able to surf the net as normal. I thought wow finally my comp recovered. But i was wrong. THE SAME update appeared on the shut down button. I got no choice but to press it again and the whole problem repeats. Why is there repeat update of the same thing? And it seems like its the update which caused the problem. I just cant use the comp now.... HELP :(

Answer:Win7 wont load after shut down during update

Do a repair/system restore (again). If you can get to the same point again, instead of shutting down, click the start orb then type 'update' (without the quotes) and select Windows Update. click on 'Change Settings' and select "Download Updates but let me decide whether to install them", click OK and then review the available updates and see if you can tell what the problem is.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi

I am helping a friend to determine what the problem could be on her laptop Satelite A215 -S6816 Windows will not load on start up and it says "press F2 for setup, Press F12 for boot device selection menu" however niether one of those options work no matter what I do.

I have tried them on start up but nothing happens. It just wont enter BIOS mode or the menu. It will say please wait or entering menue but again nothing happens.
What else can I try to get into the menue or to get the system to get windows to load? Could this be a motherboard issue? Hardrive issue?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satelite A215 -S6816 Wont enter BIOS mode and Windows wont load

hi harddrummer,
connect an external keyboard and try again

if it works there is only the internal keyboard defectiv/bad connected
i dont think that is an os based problem...

Answer:system repair wont work windows wont load

Might be a failing Hard drive. Get to your bios and see if there is any diagnostics there to do a hard drive test. On some motherboards its delete on others its F2. If there is no diagnostics on the bios i would make a USB bootable diagnostics and do that.
I just had the same problems and found out the hard way that it was a hard drive.

When I start up my pc, I get a screen that says, "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully, a recent hardware or software change may have caused this, ….etc."
Then I am offered with a bunch of options to either:

1) Start in Safe Mode
2) Safe Mode with Networking
3) Safe Mode with Command Prompt
4) Start Windows Normally
5) Last Known Good Configuration

None of them work, the safe mode ones, show a bunch of lines of code as per normal when starting up safe mode, then it freezes and stops and eventually goes back to the screen mentioned above. Same for 4 and 5, windows blue loading bar screen comes up, then the screen turns black and nothing. After a few mins my computer restarts again and goes back to the screen mentioned above.

Prior to my computer not being able to restart/load windows. I had some pop up vundu trojans i was trying to remove. Did some research after about 5 hours finally removed it. A couple days after i started receiving "generic host process error" Something to do with explorer.exe program. So i ctrl + alt + del and explorer.exe was taking up 100 cpu usage. At this point i tried to minimize task manager and my computer froze up. I waited about an hour came back and still nothing so i manually turned off my computer and turned back on. And now it will not restart. I have no idea where my windows xp disks are or even if i have them. I found what appears to be the solution to my explorer.exe pr... Read more

I had to update my bios & it seems that the wrong one was downloaded about 3% into installing the laptop just died & won't go back on.

There are no lights & there is no noise from the laptop at all.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D.

Answer:Toshiba l300D wont load up after bios update fail

It doesn't sound like it is fixable on your end. Flash BIOSes that go bad, leave you with a doorstop. You'll hear the statement, "I bricked my computer". This means you turned your device into a brick also known as a doorstop.

You might want to post at a good BIOS site
http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/

People do send bricked computers off, have the BIOS chip desoldered and a new one soldered on. You might be able to get information on that type of service.

Maybe if you contact Toshiba, they will be able to tell you of some companies that do this.

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, do the following:
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Lo... Read more

Hi Guys

Just noticed this yesterday when i updated my Laptop via Windows Update, that this update updates the explorer.exe, which will effect if you got a Custom start button installed.

After installing the update, you'll have to restart and when you are back from the restart your start button will now be changed to the default Windows 7 Start button, so you'll have to change it again if you wanna have a custom start button.

Note: I dont know if this update is out for x86 based systems

Name:
Updated for Windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB977074)
Just wanted to let you all know

Answer:Be Aware Updated Explorer.exe : Windows Update KB977074

It is for both. Fixes 3 issues, one having to do with notification icons, so probably why explorer.exe is updated.

Yesturday my vista was working great, and on the screen as i went to shut it down said "updating files do not shut down computer 3/3 100%" but it stayed like that for 4 hours, so i turn it off manualy once i turned it back on the next day it asked me for my password i put it in and as it was loading it was vey slow and would take 5-6 minutes for programs to load up.

Also when i go to click on like my internet it dont work, not even my games work, they try to load then freeze. So i did a scan on it and its still having this problem. After i got frustrated i went to shut it down again and it says "logging off" but stays like that for hours, so i have to manualy turn it off. Now with internet issue, it works in safe mode with connection, but not in my normal screen. WHY IS THIS DOING THIS?

Try reinstalling 2000 again and if you don't have service pack 4, I suggest you download it and apply it. You only need SP4, you can skip 1,2 and 3 since 4 contain previous fixes.

Hi there, please can you help?
I realize this BSOD might be a commonly reported problem but the issues here seem not to have been addressed specifically by other threads so I hope I haven't opened a new thread unnecessarily. Anyhow, here goes...
Various pc problems have arisen since coming home from holiday last week:

Background: 2 months ago: installed samsung SSD to run a new install of Win 7 64bit - on Asus P5NE-SLI with newly installed AHCI controller card. Successful after some troubleshooting; ran fine for several weeks.

PC left for 2 weeks while on holiday: on return a few days ago pc had problems on start-up: blank screen; no/slow start-up then BSOD attached.
The problem now is specifically a start-up issue: very slow to boot windows; if I hit F8 or del then BIOS loads very slowly, if at all; windows loads but freezes part way through. It DOES eventually load but it doesn't seem stable: yesterday the pc restarted unprompted.
The clock time was incorrect by about 20minutes when I got home from holiday (cmos battery?)

So far, I have (in chronological order)...
cleaned out dust, checked for shorts and loose wires
run Prime95 stress tests: seems OK - no crashes; Speed Fan recorded CPU temps of >50C before I closed the program. On idle CPU is now 37C; GPU 47C
memtest run overnight: 7 passes no errors;
updated GPU driver; run Furmark GPU stress test: all fine!
searched for other driver updates - none required (at least through windows)
run Sams... Read more

Answer:Slow start-up; crawls into BIOS setup; then slow to load windows

The problem is with your usb hub, or quite possibly a usb device that is plugged into it.
The fault is clearly sourced in the usb system though.
You may try updating your chipset drivers.
try rebooting with nothing plugged in but mouse and kb.

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

Answer:Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

Hello everyone.
This is my first post on TechSupport Forums.
My pc have following problem:
When Windows loads (black screen with blue thing moving) It takes really long (about 2-5 min usually).
After that, blue screen, where computer would scan disk C:/ - It don't scans, just stands on 0%.
And the third thing, windows start up loads pretty slowly.
I need help really, because whole computer started to work very bad since windows loads slow.
I runned CCleaner, cleared everything, runned AVG full system scan.

Was not simple trying to clarify my problem in a small title. My online classes begin in 5 days, I am desperate here! Here we go. 2 days ago I tried to import pics from my phone to laptop. I have had this laptop only for 3-4 months, and just mainly used it for school. Before halfway through the importing of pics process it rejects my phone, and will no longer recognize it (Samsung Galaxy S5 active btw). I did so much research, and tried so many usb settings tweeks, but nothing. It hates my phone for some reason.

Then at a point during all that, I reset my laptop and it just gets stuck with black screen and circle bubbles. Doing all the things you can think of on google, so many searches. It goes from that to getting stuck on welcome screen, then doing more work and searching, I get it to go to my desktop, but its only a black screen with mouse cursor. Before this point I couldn't even get it to boot through safe mode, it would get stuck. I can get safe mode now, but wont let me access any setting or options, no control panel. Not even start menu! I could only get into task and device managers. At that point I saw "!"s on my display adapters, video card, network card, and a couple of other visual type devices. Tried to uninstall, reinstall drivers, nothing. I've done so many things to resolve this, but ask if I've done it anyway, please. Before I left for work earlier, I just gave up. I started the reformat process from the reset pc setting. After it finished I p... Read more

Hi,
I have been having this problem for quite some time now. I cant download any updates and it says that i'm using a proxy or behind a firewall.

The error code is 8024402C

I have gone through all the steps mentioned in the Microsoft site and also in numerous other sites to identify the cause of the problem and nothing seems to work.

Also my Limewire, Bit comet and other p2p s/w's have stopped connecting for some reason. I'm not sure if all these problems are related to each other.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Answer:windows xp wont load -help!!!

Usually at this point, I think you need to use the Recovery Console of your XP disc.
You might want to give a little more detail about what's happening like, what kind of screen you're getting. Is it blue? Black? Stuck at some point?

I have a new AMD4200 Dual Core computer which I cannot get to install Windows XP on.

The specs of the machine are AMD 4200 Dual Core
ASUS M2NE mainboard, 300GB SATA HDD, 2GB DDR2 Ram, 256MB GeForce PCI-E video card.

When i try to install Windows XP, it boots from the CD Rom and loads the initial files before rebooting. After the reboot it starts the setup process and gets to the 39 minute mark before completion point. However it never makes it any further than that before the computer shuts itself down. I have tried both SATA and IDE drives with no success whatsoever before the computer shuts itself down.

I have tried approximately 50 times to install Windows with only one success.
I was able to install Windows XP on the single occassion and I have had no problems with the computer at all. This was pure luck as I havent been able to install it again.

Does anyone have any ideas???

For some reason, Windows XP is not loading. It says Windows did not start succesfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. When I try to start it on SAFE MODE, it says a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to the computer. Unmountable_boot_volume. Question: Windows wont load.

So this is my problem. I am running Windows 7 ( A bought copy) with 4 GB RAM and using Nvidia GEForce 9600 GT as a video card, not sure about some other stuff though. My computer got stuck while playing a game so I restarted the computer, then it asked me if i want to launch startup repair or to start windows normally, if i choose "start windows normally" it would get me stuck on "starting windows" and show me the windows logo. The "busy" LED on my computer goes red and my computer gets stuck, and I cant do anything. If I chose startup repair it would go through some loading procedures and get stuck on a black screen, again I cant do anything and the "busy" LED goes red. I used NOD32 trial version and I did scans pretty much daily. So I formatted my computer and reinstalled windows, This time I installed Kaspersky Internet Security (Yes, I did buy it), to make sure I dont have a virus. And after 1 day I turned my computer off for the night and on the next morning I got the same problem again. Im pretty sure its not a virus and my computer isnt so old, I bought it about 1 year ago. Please help me!Update:OK this just happeded: I left my computer running for a few hours while its stuck at "Starting Windows" and it suddenly stated a disk check. The disk check failed, im not sure what was the error because it diappeared a few minutes later and a black screen appeared. Ofcourse Im now stuck at that black screen...   Can anyone ... Read more

Answer:Windows wont load.

The symptoms you descibe, and especially this...QuoteThe disk check failed... make me think that the hard drive containing the operating system has either failed or is in the process of doing so. All things considered, you should probably take it to a repair shop, unless you know somebody good at hardware stuff.

Hmm, a little bit odd, but reboot your machine with the hdd in it, and make sure it is set to be in the first boot order.
If you have any flash drives or any removal media, disconnect it and see if it will boot.
If not, if you can get so far as to the safemode option using f8 during post, try it.
Once you are able to do that successfully, check and see if windows may have updated something on your machine to prevent itself from fully booting.
May I ask why you were browsing reddit by chance, I swear if you hear of people swear by staying out of editing windows registry with a scared look...
At times its for a good reason, if you dont know how to modify something, even some techs like me prefer not to go into it, not unless its needed and calls for it.

Answer:Windows Wont load

What was the last thing you did or what did you do differently the last time you used it. Install any programs, updates etc....Any sign of life at all? Giving us the brand name and model number would be a big help and I should add this has to be hardware so it should be covered by warranty as well.
One easy thing to do is pull power supply out and the battery which is usually released by switches on the laptop underside. Then plug it in again without the battery and try to boot it.

Hi,

My Toshiba Satellite Laptop has Windows 8. For some reason windows 8 wont load. It gets to the screen where you select which username you want. But from there its non responsive, I cant get into Windows, I cant restart to load it up in safe mode.
I got a Windows 8 disk which I had to change the bios to load it up. The cd loads but it says the automatic repair wont repair the laptop. I try to refresh windows 8 but I get a message saying the drive where windows is installed is locked. unlock the drive and try again. It also wont let me use system restore.
I try to use the reset pc option but I get a message saying unable to reset your pc, a required drive partition is missing.
At the start it gives me the option to install windows 8, I don't know whether to just do that? Is it ok to do with windows 8 already installed?

Thanks

Answer:Windows 8 wont Load

you can try to unlock the drive with a partition utility.
anyways wait for more answers from experts
do not do anything if you are in doubt

Question: Windows wont load!

When i try to acess my dell studio 15 laptop, it comes up with the windows boot manager, saying i should boot the windows disc up and "repair your computer", and the error code under it being '0xc0000225'. I have attempted this several times with it at the end just telling me to retry; but fails everytime. And even when i try to do a system restore instead it wont let me, and comes up with another error message. So is there anyway i would be able to fix this without having to re-install windows and lose everything i had on my hardrive?

Answer:Windows wont load!

Hopefully someone will be able to help, but in the meantime, it might help to say what OS you have?
You might also try unplugging your power supply and removing the battery. Hold the ON button for maybe 30 seconds to reset. Remove all peripherals - especially any USB devices, plug in and reboot.
Have you added any hardware or software lately - just before the problem started?

Question: Windows wont load

I just put a new system together (p4 northwood 2.66, msi mobo).

I am trying to take an old HD that i've got from a p3 930 system (the one I am using right now) and install it in my new system, but WinXP wont start when I try.

The HD works fine when I put it back in the old system, and even the new system will detect the HD just fine, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.

Here is exactly what happens.. Windows goes to load and I get an error message saying windows may not have been properly shut down, yadda, yadda... Prompting me to start in safe mode, safe w/ networking, etc.. If I choose safe mode, I see a bunch of parths and filenames scroll and then the computer hangs. When I choose normal, or last known config option, the WinXP loading screen flashes for a split second, then a blue screen flashes for a split second and then it just reboots. Very frustrating since I can't even see any error messages..

Anybody have and advice they can share? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows wont load

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Your issue is probably putting a hard drive that has an O.S. on it from another system and trying to boot it. You are probably having driver conflicts.
In order to use that hard drive in the new system you are going to have to fdsik/reformat and install a fresh copy of your O.S.

Sure it will boot from the other machine, it is set to that particular system and its hardware.
I hope this has helped

My friend just called me saying HELP.. She tried to explain what was going on. Starting her PC. it makes a high pitch rev real loud, (probably the CD drive Loading) then she only gets a screen that says PROBLEM DETECTED UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME? then goes on to say something about checking to see that all hardware is installed. I asked if she had downloaded anything and just a screen saver a few days ago. I had her start up in safe mode, and it pops up a screen that has some options, there is some thing like advance somthing?? enable last known good boot, VGA MODE, and maybe a few other things, I had her try the go back thing And it only sends her back to the blue screen with the unmountable boot volume... in bold letters.

Does any one have any ideas on what to try?
