Preferred Solution: win xp Cannot load any Secure websites many spyware and spybot wont update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

yesterday, everything on my pc worked fine, then all of a sudden it started to play up, MSN windows were closing on their own... etc...

so i tried to do a scan in Norton, it got to about 100 files and closed, then it came up with an error, i cant remember the exact words, but it was something along the lines of "if you are experiencing irregular behaviour please re-install Norton".

so i went to, did an online scan, deleted the one virus that was on there, installed Norton again, and i thought everything seemed fine...

i told someone about what was happening and they suggested downloading HJT, which ive had before,so i knew which site to get it off

i went to load it in my browser... and it came up with page not displayed, so i tried to go back onto housecall online antivirus scan and it wouldnt load either, i tried mcafee, that didnt work, so i tried to load something completely unrelated to antivirus issues..., and it worked perfectly...

ive reset my internet settings, so it isnt them... any other ideas?

anyone help?

When using the internet I get periodic pop-ups suggesting my computer is infected (duh!). This wouldn't be so bad except that most popular websites won't load (e.g. hotmail, facebook, google searches - though works, etc.). My Norton Antivirus apparently failed to protect against this malware, and doesn't detect any problems. Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy detected and fixed several problems (e.g. VirtuMonde) and have since been uninstalled, but my problems continue unabated. Please help if you can. I've ran both spybot and adaware as well as a full system NAV scan to find any malware. I cannot access any secure websites for any of my accounts. If anyone can take a look at my HJT log, It'd be much appreciated.

I use HTTPS Everywhere in conjunction with HTTPS Finder addons and love them. I also connect to ths website with HTTPS but I don't get the colored secure indicator. I assume parts of this website are not secure which is the reasons why. Is there a way to only connect to this forum with full HTTPS?

basically, can I stop getting the "partially encrypted" message in some way? This would apply to Sevenforums and any other website that I only get partial encryption.

Answer:Can you tell Firefox to only load the secure parts of websites?

You will never get this site fully encrypted and working correctly due to us serving different resources from different domains to speed up page loading.

I've been trying to help my sister with her laptop. She can connect to the internet, and view websites, but when she tries to go to secure pages(Email, Bank, Amazon checkout page), it says the page doesn't exist.

Like any decent human being, I told her to just use Firefox, but that wont let her go to any pages. That just tells me that something is wrong outside of IE.

Here's what I have done to try and fix the problem:

Lower security restrictions in IE -- no effect
Dissable Norton/other firewalls, but found it wasn't even running(Anti virus is running though), no other firewall that I could find
Connect through my Wifi instead of her's --no effect
Connect directly through Ethernet connection -- no effect

In the mean-time, I suggested she should download updates from Microsoft. The battery went dead, so I didn't get a chance to do much else
I'm completely at a loss as to why she cannot connect to secure pages with IE, an none at all with Firefox. Firefox always fixes my browsing woes
She says it happened a few weeks ago without her changing/installing anything.

Next chance I get I'll run an anti-spyware program.

I would love any suggestions you can give me

Answer:IE wont let me get to secure websites

You're on the right track with the antispyware scans. Try these:
Please download Ad-aware at and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go to to download the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware at for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available.

Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident. Make sure you enable TeaTimer after we are done. Do NOT enable Spybot TeaTimer Resident protection at this time. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings. It may also hinder our fix at this point. You may enable it after t... Read more

This problem just started happening. It only occurs on this network I have in my home. I have used multiple computers at a different house and the internet is perfect. So I am assuming I have some sort of virus on my network. I need help

Answer:Certain websites wont load, or they take very long to load.

It appears that you have already posted a hijackthis log here. Please be patient while waiting for assistance. HJT Helpers are all volunteers regardless where you post a log. While waiting for a response, you should not ask for help elsewhere or make changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc.) Any modifications you make on your own can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the HJT Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you be patient while awaiting a reply and refrain from asking for help elsewhere. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the HJT Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. If you still need assistance after your log has been reviewed and you have been cleared, please start a new topic. If you have any questions, please PM me or another moderator. Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi all,

I'm having problems with my Windows XP machine, I can visit some websites but when I try to visit the following (and I'm sure theirs more) the webpages never complete loading.

I'm not sure what to do or what could be the problem with my computer. It was running fine just last week but now I'm having major problems with my internet. The weird thing is that I have several other computers on the same network as my Windows XP machine that has the problem and these computers can access the above websites without any problems.

Looking forward to any advice!

Answer:Some websites wont load?

Check your firewall or browser is not blocking access to these to these specific sites, or any anti-malware apps you have running real-time.

Also, when was the last time you did any malware cleaning/preventative maintenance?

Try using something like CCLeaner to clean your machine and then reboot and re-try accessing those sites once the cache is clean.

So I finished my new website, and I went to go log on my account on, but the website wont load at all. But my website at works just fine. I started up Filezilla and tried connecting to but it times out. I try to ping and it returns after one attempt and says: General Failure. I tried the website on another computer and it works, no lag or hiccups. It seems to only happen with this computer.

Hi guys,

I did a fresh install of vista on my Laptop a few days ago and after that neither of the browsers will load websites.
At first FF worked for 1 day and I got my antivirus and spybot but after that it doesnt want to work.
They come up with the 'Cant load server' page every time.

I am usning OpenDNS on my router and have done for a long time.

Just out of interest my iPod(which I am using now) and phone can access the internet via my wifi fine with no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:FF or IE wont load any websites?

Have you tried reinstalling your modem or lan card drivers?
I have encountered that problem before and the above method works.

By the way, have you also try using the internet directly to your computer without the use of a router?

Internet explorer will not load many pages, they just load and load and nothing happens, and eventually I will get a page saying
"The page cannot be displayed" and says it may be something to do with my browser settings.

MSN will not log in, this is the message I get;
"We were unable to sign you into MSN Messenger, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your Internet Connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet"

My friends can get on MSN, and I am definitely connected to the internet, or I wouldn't be writing this. I click the Troubleshooter button and then I get this message;
"We were unable to troubleshoot your connection to the .NET Messenger service. There is possibly a problem with the service, your Internet connection, or your proxy settings. Please check your settings and make sure that you are connected to the Internet"

I have run a virus scan on Mcafee (my antivirus) and that picked up nothing, and I did an online scan with trend micro and panda which also found nothing, I also updated and ran Ad aware which found nothing. I have cleaned cache and cookies all offline content and the history. I tried Mozilla Firefox also and exactly the same happened, I also tried Start --> Run --> Type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the brackets, and setting my privacy/security levels to default but still no luck, I don't know what to try next, I am using Windows XP SP2 Home, Internet ... I've been having an issue for a while now where suddnely I am unable to load websites in my browser. I'm using Firefox 2, but I'm sure this isn't browser related. I've tested in IE and same issue. I can't even access my router. However all other internet activity works fine (IM, IRC, etc).

Also my other pc works fine when I am having issues. I'm using WinXP sp2. I don't recall any changes being made that should cause such an issue but any solutions would be great! Thanx in advance

Question: websites wont load

good morning,

i have a problem since a longer time now and im really out of solutions.
half of the websites,i try to open, wont open.
they keep loading a long time..till i get the typical error msg

- "cant connect to xyz"
-or the page stays just white and at the bottom it says 'done'

if i refresh it,it will repeat one of those two.
i have that regardless of the browser im using.
firefox,ie.. same.
then other websites work just fine.

i used even a program to clear cookies and cache, didnt help.
its strange,as it happened just out of the blue and everything did work before without any problems.

i googled a bit and found out,im not the only one with that problem, but i didnt find any solutions so far.

the last thing i have in mind is to format, but i really dont wanna do that.

any1 gots an idea?

Hey all,

so firstly thanks in advance for any helps.

Basically noticed something was wrong with my pc. Most websites that require a log on, including facebook, ebay, even this one, wouldn't load or would partially load. Tried in IE and FF. All loads fine in windows safe mode.

Decided to scan and clean my pc. Ran norton virus scan, it picked up a Vundo virus. used VundoFix V6.7.7 to get rid of files.

Host file is normal with just localhost entry.

Have installed, updated and run CWShredder, ad-aware and S&D in safe mode. But sites still won't load. grrrr. any help is appreciateded.

Heres my log

Answer:Internet wont load certain websites

I experienced this frustrating problem. Thought it must be DNS problem. Tried all manner of solutions including flushing the DNS cache. Eventually checked the router’s settings and found that a built in parental control thingy which blocks sites based on key words was activated. It was causing the problem even though there were no key words entered! It is a Sky sagem router/modem by the way.

I've been having a little trouble today with some websites not loading and just going to the normal firefox "couldn't load page". I dont know if it would be any virus or just temporary connection issues but I just want to see what I should do anyway.

It doesn't do it all the time, only sometimes when I go on a website it wont load, but then I can just refresh and connect again and it may work.

Hi guys

I started at University the other day, and the internet has been working fine, until yesterday when I came back to campus after returning home for a few days.

I tried straight away to sign into oovoo, but it wouldnt sign in.. so I tried skype.. and it loaded. Then I stopped the call after chatting for a while and I tried to switch over to my other skype account. It wouldnt sign in.. just like the oovoo problem.

Today, Google has been loading fine all day long under the address, but now when I try to load it, it comes up as if it cant load (like when you dont have a connection, but I can still load the google search engine by going through my gmail account and clicking on the search on the top toolbar. And Im using the internet now, so I know it works apart from that.

Anyone know whats going on? Im using a Acer Aspire 5733Z with Windows 7 64bit, if that helps at all.

Answer:Certain programs and websites wont log in or load?

2 minutes after I post this, now loads and works fine for me, but oovoo and skype are still down. Seems strange this..

Ok so a few days ago i log on and was going through some of my favourite websites etc. When i come across that one wont load, i ask a few friends if the website was down and it wasnt. I done a virus scan and spyware scan, deleted my inter history, temporary files and cookies, but the problem was still the same. The main site that wont work is google search but i can use live search. The thing i found interesting was that i could access all the "broken" websites through a proxy server. Another thing is i think this *virus* is changing some images and advertisements to "Warning - Spyware" or "Congratulations 1,000,000th user" etc. (Only thing that makes me think that its changing the images and advertisements is because ive seen "Warning - Spyware" etc. a lot unusaully and i tried loading a ytmnd page and the same "Warning - Spyware" image came up.)

(I wasnt too sure what forum to put this, but this seemed the best place)

Help much appreciated,

**Update**: Ok downloaded Safari (instead of using firefox,IE and Opera) and the websites seem to be working, but IE and firefox are still not loading these sites.

So the other day I get on the computer and Microsoft Security Essentials says that there are some things it could not remove and to download this other program (from Microsoft) to finish the job. So I did that and it said it was all cleaned. So I restart it again and run a quick scan just to be sure and I get the same thing over again. Every time I run a quick scan, it keeps saying it removed trojans and exploits and backdoors. The same ones are either coming back or not there or were never there.

Performance wise, the only thing it's causing problems with is web browsing (so far, I know these things can get worse). If you go to search in google, sometimes:

the search won't load at all
you can click one of the results and it will take you to another search engine instead
you can click on one of the results and it takes you to a "404 Not Found | nginx" page

And some addresses you can type in and it immediately says 'server not found' while it works on another computer. It seems to only do it in firefox because it will work in Chrome.

When I run malwarebytes, it gives me a list of things (things I swear I clicked remove before) but one of the files it shows infected is a system32 file (sytem32/grpconv.exe) and I wasn't sure if I should remove that one.

Also, if you tell me to run combofix, before you do so can you advise me on the fact that even though I know without a doubt that both norton and microsoft have realtime protection disabled (be... Read more

I know I have seen this before, but when I search there is no answers that match. I have a laptop, running XP, using wireless with windows onecare for antivirus. Recently, I my antivirus was not updated, and I noticed it would not go to the onecare support website at all, it just times out. I have been in the live chat of this site, and have installed AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, and run CCleaner. The computer has been restarted (multiple times) and none of this has helped. Another site affected is, which I rarely if ever visit, but I have been trying to go all week and it just times out there. The peeps on the live chat said to post in here cause they are stumped. I also went and checked my host file, and the original sample is still there. (registery is still directing to the right host also)

This is only happening on my Win7 computer. About 20% of the time, I'll either get "the connection was reset", or the page will only load some text.
If I restore to windows default host file, all is fine. Except of course I get the annoying ad popups and stuff.
My 2 other xp computers are using the same MVPS hosts file and the same web pages load fine, with popups being blocked by the hosts file.
This started about 2 months ago.
I tried Firefox in safe mode, no help. Internet Explorer does it, too.
I tried offloading firewall, no help. Rebooted router, no help. Reinstalled Firefox, no help.
I deleted all temp internet files, cookies, no help.
The only thing that fixes it is restoring to the default Windows hosts file.
The only way I can see my websites is to refresh over and over till they load. Might take 5 times, maybe 10.

Answer:Websites wont fully load with MVPS hosts file....

Alright I fixed it. I'm using F-Secure anti-virus (free from my isp). When I un-checked the "scan and remove viruses from web traffic" the problem disappeared.
I still have "real-time scanning" and "browsing protection".

First of, stop or disable any anti-virus scanners or firewalls like Norton prior to updating..see if that helps, if not uninstall spybot, reboot, then delete the program folder (generall in C:\Program Files\...). And finally re-install Spybot... these are some generic steps you could try, it might help.

Since you can post on here, I assume that the machine you are trying to update is connected to the internet. If so, then please check any firewall settings or Proxy settings in the browser to ensure nothing is configured improperly. try to download the latest version of SpyBot directly from the vendor site at and let us know if you can even get to that site. Let me start by saying that lately my bank website, Norton Safesearch and even your website appear to have replaced their secure certificates with outdated or insufficient security. Usually in these cases the https in the address bar is crossed out or has a yellow          ! triangle. If you click on that triangle or crossed out space you will see a grey box that says "your connection to this site is not private". My connection is a private home network as opposed to public. It used to say "you have not visited this site before today" but that phrase is no longer there. Of course I've gone to these sites before. In the grey box there is a tab titled 'connections'. Click on that and it says '! The identity of this website has not been verified' and '! Your connection to is not encrypted'. These sites normally have the green bar in the address bar indicating a secure connection. Clicking on the green bar will give you the same grey box, only this time it says "Your connection to this site is private" and it will tell you 'the identity of this site has been verified by [name of certificate]. Valid Certificate Transparency supplied by the server'. It will say 'your connection is encrypted using an obsolete cipher suite, or [...encrypted using a modern cipher suite]. Both are followed by specific connection and encryption information, i.e. TLS 1.2.
Now let me get to the brass tacks. I have been to at least 3 time... Read more

I have had Spybot S&D for a whiel now. The version I have is 1.3 rc 4. I use the updater from teh program and have also downloaded the updater here on MG. I just did the later tonight and still didn't update. Also it has never caught anything. Not sure what's going on, but I do use Ad-aware as well. Will this have any affect?

Answer:Spybot S&D doesn't ever update or ctach any spyware

You don't have the proper version. That's why there are no updates.

Get the versions of the software indicate by clicking on the links in this Sticky thread < READ ME FIRST: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal >

Then do your updates. Make sure you get both SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware SE.

First I hope this is in the right place, if not could it please be moved..

Hello, I would appreciate any help regarding this. (Using Windows XP)

Basically I first noticed a trojan Agent2.GUF

("Infection";"Trojan horse Agent2.GUF";"\\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\gxvxcocioggrdkuonqgqfdoqxcqoegdfuruhe.dll";"";"25/05/2009, 21:05:56")

To be precise. I was weary as i saw System 32 which i know is a core program, So I let it be and nothing happened. Scanned again and it was detected again as AVG couldn't cure it. I decided to put it in the virus vault and my computer ran fine so i assume it isn't anything major. However I've yet to "empty the vault" and delete everything in it (just in case)

I decided to do a spyware scan to be safe and was unable to first update Spybot or even open it. It's tea time application was still running in the tray though. I also cannot seem to update my Adaware Anniversary edition. However i was able to scan my computer over night and it found nothing.

I've also tried doing everything in Safe mode but he same problem persists.

I uninstalled, downloaded then re-installed Spybot SnD but it wasn't having any of it and said the website wasn't able to be resolved. Also I am not able to go to the safer networking website directly but am able to access it through it's IP address route.

As is common protocol I ran Hijack this and the results are as followed.

When I try to get an update from Microsoft it tells me the following:

Install the ActiveX control required to view the website
The website will not display correctly on your computer without this control. To install it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just below the address bar.
2. In the right-click menu, click Install ActiveX Control.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.

Note: If the Information Bar doesn't appear, or if you've installed the control but still can't use the website, take these steps to solve the problem.

I have no"bar" to clik below the explorer bar. I have seen it pop up before but it doesn't with this website. This is keeping me from getting updates. Any suggestions???

During the final stage of a windows update my com. shut off. Now I get the motherboard start up screen, with the option to access the BIOS, then it says "Loading Operating System" then it loops back to the bios screen again. I went into the BIOS selected to boot from DVD, and when it asks to Boot from CD to press any key...I do,and it still loops back to the BIOS screen!!! I can't break the cycle.

Answer:Shutdown during win 7 wont load

Hi,Kindly follow the below mentioned steps in order:1.Confirm Hard Drive is recognized in BIOS. If yes, follow next step. If NO, load BIOS defaults.2.Boot to Safe mode and perform system restore. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only. If system restore fails or unable to access safe mode, follow next step. 3.Run Start Up repair from the URL mentioned: the issue still persists, then try running the Hardware Diagnostics. If you get any error code, make a note of the error code. Thanks & RegardsDebbie B#iworkfordell

I need help!i know a bit more than the average person about computers and i can usually resolve my computer issues on my own but im stumped! the first time i had an issue was a couple months ago when amd prompted me to update my graphics driver, so i did....after updating  i restarted the computer and i would get to the windows loading screen then,  a black screen with just the loading "ring" shownig. i restarted the machine a few times asnd got the same thing,  so eventually i got to the startup repair screen and i used system restore to bring the computer back to the point before i installed the new driver. after that it worked fine for a few months.  just last week i had the same issue with the black loading screen so i did a system restore again andt windows loaded fine after that, until the screen went to sleep then it refused to come back on and would not boot up again. i had not updated the graphis driver so im not sure what caused it this time and since then thats what has been happening i have tryed restarting it time after time and it will eather freeze at the black loading screen, or will  boot into windows very slowly, then crash again. i have also tryed system restore a few more times and it just boots up once then crashes again i have even tryed repalcing the hard drive and putting a fresh windows 10 install on it and it, but  just does the same thing again. the strangest thing for me is that it seems t... Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

I was manually installing service pack 2 on windows vista because i was told this would sort out my problem with not being able to do any auto updates, then it got to the stage where it shutdown and was installing 1/3 updates then when it got to the 2nd part it crashed and when i restart the laptop nothing happens at all, just a black screen, no boot menu options or anything like that. I dont have a vista disc or anything like that, does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can solve this problem, sorry if my explanation was short and not very detailed.

thanks in advance

Answer:Vista wont load after update error

Um, I believe you will need some kind of disk. Specifically, you'd need either the Vista disc or the ERD disc. You need to launch a repair on your OS, as it seems to be screwed. Can you get into Safe mode? Can you get into the pre-boot menu at all?

if 8 or 10 then attempt to boot at least 5 times and winsows should then detect a problem and boot to the advanced tools (REcovery enviroment) where you can try a startup repair or a system restore.

Hello, my windows 7 starter just cannot start. When i last switched off my comp, it has an update on the shut down button, so i shutted down with 20 updates. The next time i switched on my comp, i was unable to even get to the login page. The whole screen is just appeared installing 1 out of 9436 updates with black background. After the 9436 updates, the whole screen turned black with no words, nothing. I cant get to the login page. Then i only can turn off the plug. After that i tried swithcing on again. The computer told me to do a windows fix since my windows is unable to start. Then, the windows open into desktop and i was able to surf the net as normal. I thought wow finally my comp recovered. But i was wrong. THE SAME update appeared on the shut down button. I got no choice but to press it again and the whole problem repeats. Why is there repeat update of the same thing? And it seems like its the update which caused the problem. I just cant use the comp now.... HELP :(

Answer:Win7 wont load after shut down during update

Do a repair/system restore (again). If you can get to the same point again, instead of shutting down, click the start orb then type 'update' (without the quotes) and select Windows Update. click on 'Change Settings' and select "Download Updates but let me decide whether to install them", click OK and then review the available updates and see if you can tell what the problem is.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Backstory (skip if you need)
I'm fixing someones laptop, It was slow and taking 30 minutes to startup, i did the usually virus scan and restarted, then it was stuck in an auto repair loop. I used a windows 8 Install CD from microscoft. None of the options in it would work, install (key doesnt match) reset (missing partition), image recovery (cant find an image), restore (no restore point), etc.
Used command prompt, did stuff like bootrec, bcdedit, diskpart, and chkdsk. After it ran chkdsk it finally loaded windows. I reset/reinstalled the OS completely. Fixed, restarted, running smooth. Owner said it was working great for a day, then after turning it back on it was in an auto repair loop.
It's stuck in a preair loop, I can't even boot from the 8 CD! Have it configured in the bios, it shows the the blue windows logo then the screen goes black for 3 minutes and a blue screen flashes for 1 second saying  "Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. Collecting some info (0% complete) search online for error: 0x000021a"
The weird thing is, Windows 7 disks boot fine, but it's "not compatible". And if I physically remove the HDD, it will boot into the windows 8 CD. So I put the HDD back in (while still at the command prompt) and it wont take my commands in related to the C: . I get a "System cannot find the drive specified"
I also tried hooking upp the HDD to my PC SATA, it shows in explorer, but just right clicking it crashes explorer.exe. D... Read more

Answer:Windows wont load, Boot CD wont load, Automatic Repair Loop

I got a windows 8.1 disk made and it allowed me yo boot from the CD, but it's SLOOOOW, it takes minutes to load reset or w.e (none of them still work), or open the command prompt.
I ran chkdsk /f /r /x but it didnt help. chkdsk /r ends with:
"A disk read error occurredcc0000185
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream."
Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.
Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull
/rebuildBCD - Total identified Windows installations: 0
/scanOS - Total identified Windows installations: 0
Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."
Next sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
"Windows resources protection didnt find integrity violations"
BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files
Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

I had to update my bios & it seems that the wrong one was downloaded about 3% into installing the laptop just died & won't go back on.

There are no lights & there is no noise from the laptop at all.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D.

Answer:Toshiba l300D wont load up after bios update fail

It doesn't sound like it is fixable on your end. Flash BIOSes that go bad, leave you with a doorstop. You'll hear the statement, "I bricked my computer". This means you turned your device into a brick also known as a doorstop.

You might want to post at a good BIOS site

People do send bricked computers off, have the BIOS chip desoldered and a new one soldered on. You might be able to get information on that type of service.

Maybe if you contact Toshiba, they will be able to tell you of some companies that do this.

I'm not sure it this is the proper place to post this or not so if it is not I am sorry. Here's the deal.

Was on my computer last night everything was working fine. I left to go to a freinds house for a while so I closed all my programs and left the computer running. When I got back I tried to sign in to Windows live messenger and it would not let me. That was at about 2 am and I still cannot sign in to messenger.

Also I can go to but when I put in my email and password and try to log in the page just gets stuck while trying to load and doesn't go anywhere. Again I was using this just fine last night.

I decided to run my spyware and antivirus programs to see if maybe I got something that was causing problems. Ad-aware just found some tracking cookies and spybot found nothing. When I went to update AVG anti spyware though before I scanned with it I was unable to download and update. I still at this time cannot. It just continues to say failed to recieve update.

I'm really lost here guys and could use any help possible. It will be greatly appreciated.

I also ran Combofix.exe and it deleted some things, I have the log file saved.

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

Answer:Users are unable to load websites - no error, just 1-hour+ load times for pages

This is my first post - hope I'm posting in the correct forum. I have a huge problem. For some unknown reason, I can't get into secure sites on my home computer. Last week I could, now I can't. As far as I know nothing has changed between now and then. If anyone has ANY advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Not being able to bank online is making me a little crazy. I have looked at several discussions here on this topic. Here's what I've tried so far (and none of it has worked):

Disabled Firewall
Disabled Norton
Made sure time and date are correct
Made sure it has a 128 cipher strength
Made sure SSL 2.0 & SS 3.0 are checked in my advanced options
Made sure my security is at medium

At my bank's recommendation I also disabled my pop-up blocker, accepted their cookies, and downloaded the IE service pack #1.

Nothing! I am getting a little frusterated to say the least. Somewhere on these boards I read this:

"Try this - with all browser windows closed, Go to Start->Run and copy and paste each of the following, hitting ok after each:"

regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll ****
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll ****
regsvr32 sccbase.dll ****
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll ****
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

When I did this, the ones w/ stars next to them failed. I have no idea what any of that stuff means, so I don't know if that could be what's causing the problem.

Question: Secure websites

Without me changing any of my browser settings, my PC has decided to stop me from viewing any websites over a secure connection, eg Hotmail - where you would normally see a padlock at the bottom right of the window.

I've tried changing my security and profile levels in Internet Options, but nothing seems to work. My cipher strength is still 128-bit.

Not sure if it's just a coincidence, but ever since I've had this problem I get a message telling me that DWWIN.exe failed to initialize when I shut my PC down.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition.

Any suggestions welcome!

Answer:Secure websites

hmmm ... two for one

DWWIN.exe failed to initializeClick to expand...

This means that there is a program you are running that is crashing during system shutdown. When the crash occurs the OS launches dwwin.exe to report the error, however the window station is shutting down and so the application can't launch. Your problem isn't with dwwin.exe, you need to figure out what application is actually crashing at shutdown.

View the event log ... Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/eventvwr.
To review Shutdown Event Tracker data, Open Event Viewer. Click System Log, scroll to the Event column, and find entries with the number 1075.

secure connection problem
Clear the SSL slate and autocomplete history in IE.
Open IE, then go "tools" ... "Internet options" ... "content".

You should see "Certificates" heading. Under this, click "Clear SSL State" and then when you receive the message that the SSL cache was successfully cleared you click "OK".

Next go to the "Personal information" heading and click "AutoComplete". You will see "Clear AutoComplete history", just click "Clear Forms" and then click OK when prompted.

If these don't fix your problems, then you'll need to run a few scans on your computer to see if you have any viruses/trojans/malware/spyware that is blocking it.

I'm running Windows XP, and use Panda Platnum ('04) for firewall, and anti virus. For several months I've been locked out of secure websites- 'the page cannot be displayed', experience an error message regarding SPORDER.DLL at start up, and the firewall says it has an error. I downloaded Spy bot search and destroy, but it did not fix the problem. I've spoken with Dell's and AOL's tech support- they didn't solve this. Panda's tech support said the SPODER.DLL error is from their program. We downloaded sporder.dll from a website, but nothing changed. Then Panda said to call Symantec to get the shipped with version (this laptop came with a 90 trial- I thought I had deleted it) off, uninstall Panda, then re-install. I also tried to run Ad-Aware, but the Paanda guy said not to because it can lock up my computer. Help, please!! This seemed very similar to Paul79's problem, but couldn't quite figure out what to do. Thanks.

Hi all,I am currently using Mozilla Firefox as my internet browser and I can't login to any secure websites (hotmail, eBay, amazon, bank accounts, etc...)  almost any site that requires a user ID and password.  I have read through the post and found a similar issue but the solution ,which was to run Mozilla in safe mode, did not work for me.  I have also checked and deleted cookies and checked firewalls, deleted temporary internet files, and un-installed internet explorer.  Nothing has worked.  When trying to access these sites I receive the following error message....             Unable to connectFirefox can't establish a connection to the server at    *   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few          moments.    *   If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network          connection.    *   If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure          that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.Any help at all is much appreciated.

Except for this message board and I can not log into any secure websites (banks, message boards, online newspapers, etc.). Every time I try to login it goes to "page cannot be displayed". I do not have any other problems with internet explorer and I use linksys wireless router and adapter. Any help would be great

Answer:cannot log into any secure websites using IE

Try Mozilla Firefox. It's probably a settings issue somewhere in IE or your Internet settings in the control panel, but if you try getting onto a secure page using Firefox it may help to narrow down the possibilities of what your problem is. Besides, Firefox kicks way more butt than Internet Explorer in the first place, so you might just keep using it if it works. Download it here:

I just got done formatting and reinstalling win2k pro on my computer. Well for some reason now IE won't go on secure web sites, like I tried to check my bank account and after entering my password the page could not be displayed. I thought it might have been a problem with my bank but when i was going to pay for something using paypal i got the same problem

Answer:can't go on secure websites

make sure browser has required, high enough "Bit" security... such as 128 Bit Encryption Security.

Certain browser versions have certain type/level of security
AND various websites Require a certain level.

Make sure your browser options/settings are correct

I have a problem accessing https websites with XP Pro and IE6. Ordinary websites are no problem but most times I try to access a secure site I get the Microsoft DNS Error message. On average I do connect on about 3-4 out of 10 tries. But I'm not doing anything else between attempts. So why does it only work some of the time.I'm using a dial up 56k connection to Pipex.Mike

when trying to shred the temp files through secure shredder the program always freezes. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it still was not fixed, any ideas

Answer:spybot secure shredder?

How long did you wait before shutting down? It is an extremely slow tool.
If you have alot of files to shred it will seem like it is not working. The default shred it set to 5 times on that tool. Try changing it to 2 or 3.

I noticed yesterday that I could no longer access secure websites with my computer. I'm not sure where to start looking for the problem. I tried accessing the secure site from another computer connected to the same router and WAS able to. I tried connecting to the site with both browsers (Firefox, which I use most of the time, and IE) and could not access the site. So it seems that the problem is specific to my one computer but not specific to any browser.

As an example I cannot access or login to

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Whenever I try to access any site that has https I get 'Cannot find server or DNS error'. I've tried turning the firewall off, adding port 443 to it, turning pop up blockers off, running ad aware and spybot s&d, deleting cookies, TIF files, and clearing history with no luck. There have been 2 secure sites which I could access through https ( and, but no others. Any suggestions?

Answer:I can't access secure websites

Welcome to TSF,

Have you tried to add these sites to the exemption lists in the Firewall and IE Security?

Do you have a pop-up blocker switched on? If so, try turning it off whilst you gain access to the sites.

I used to have trouble with my Internet Banking sites until I did both of these things.

Try them and see what happens.

Post back with your results.

Kind Regards,

Dave T.

We have been having problems with connecting to secure internet sites. Wanadoo had problems in the south of the country at the end of March. In addition there was a problem on the BT phone line, which has been cleared (they say!. We also discovered we needed a new wireless router and installed a d-link2640b two weeks ago. Unfortunately we are unable to access a whole variety of pages (including hotmail). If we try to buy anything the payment page refuses to load; if we try to click on links within sites they also refuse to load; when we try to get into hotmail the login page will not load unless we manually alter the address from https to http.
We can access gmail but no other email sites. This is driving us nuts!
We have tried 'patches' to fix the settings for IE8, tried using Firefox and have even reset the router settings - all to no avail. Is this Wanadoo's problem or ours?

Answer:Accessing secure websites

I think that this is unlikely to be an Orange (ex Wanadoo) problem.
Have you tried this MS Support for access to secure sites
What antivirus, firewall and OS are you using?

Hello guys and gals. I am running windows vista with a wireless connection to the internet.
I am unable to surf the web, but surprisingly enough I am able to view secure web sites only. Running IE to access the web. I am at quite a loss here. I have tried disabling firewalls and the like and still no internet. What is strange is that the computer shows that I am fully connected to the internet. Signal strength is good. I am at my wits end and would appreciate any help or course of actions the users here would like me to follow. I do plan on telling everyone that helped if it worked or not, so others can come here and find a solution. I am sure there are many others who a very frustrated with this problem also.

Is there a winsock reset for windows vista? Would that work?

Answer:IE will only connect to secure websites.

I'd be surprised if that helped though, seeing as how Winsock settings don't by default differentiate between HTTP and HTTPS connections.

There is a tutorial here on how to perform an IE reset. You may have picked up an IE add-on which is interfering with non-SSL operation.

I've found several posts on this subject, but the thread was closed to comment.
I tried the dll installs that were meticulously typed into the posts, but it did not
fix the problem. (I had an error in one of them, so perhaps it was this
that prevented access to secure websites-- email, etc.)

I reinstalled Windows SP3 updates and it fixed the problem.

I've found it useful to have a saved copy of SP1, SP2, SP3 on a memory stick
if ever I need to reinstall XP or if files become corrupted.

This has only been a problem for a few days...
When I try to pay for things via paypal, or other secure pay sites (have tried several) the secure pay page won't load - it just seems to take ages to load and then doesn't, leaving me with a blank screen, which says 'done' at the bottom.

The same thing happening on the other computer upstairs - perhaps this is more of a router/cable problem?

Been helped before by you guys, so hoping this can help resolve the problem, thanks!

Answer:can't access 'secure pay' websites.

Click Here to download Save it to your desktop.
Right click on click on Extract all.
Go to the extracted files and double click on IEdll.bat

Hi, I have a windows machine here that is having trouble connecting to secure protocols. I have tested https in IE and FF as well as trying to connect with putty to my ssh server. Both failed every time.

The system is running Windows Vista SP1. It is a HP DV7-1135nr Notebook. I have tried,, Microsoft's secure websites, and a few others that require going through a https connection.

I've tried disabling the windows firewall and that failed. I've tried connecting to two separate networks, that was a no go. I have been googling around for solutions including making sure that the ssl 2.0 and ssl 3.0 are ticked in IE, I have verified that the sure protocols are enabled in firefox and they are still unable to connect. I've even temperarly opened port 443 in the windows firewall but didn't succeed.

I'm sure there are other options but I've pretty much ruled out the possibility of a problem on the routers, modems, and isps. Tonight, I'll try connecting via a wire to see if the wireless is at fault. I can successfully connect to them through a web proxy or by using a VM but that requires too much overhead in order to connect.

This is my mom's laptop and she needs it to pay bills and such. Currently she has to resort to other machines to get the job done. VMs are a whole nother world to her. Please help me, thanks.

I am unable to view secure websites in either IE7 or Firefox. Here's what I completed so far:

1. Del Internet hisory, cleared Internet temp folder, add secure sites to my trusted site.
2. Verified that SSL 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 are checked in Internet options under the advance tab
3. updated wintrust.dll, urlmon.dll, softpub.dll, initpki.dll using regsrv32
4. Check registry setting to verify appdata and local appdata have correct directory path
5. IE 7 has 128-bit cypher strengh
6. Check firewall setting on Westell DSL modem
7. Check config setting for Sygate Personal Firewall.

I can't access banking information or anysite that requires a logon or SSL connection.

If you hav any suggestion I would make sure to include you on my christmas list

Answer:IE7 Cannot view Secure Websites

Instead of checking the firewall settings try disabling them

Is sygate the only security software on your system?
