microsoft update redirects to google, windows live apps stopped working, C:\ drive isn't responding right. unknown

Question: microsoft update redirects to google, windows live apps stopped working, C:\ drive isn't responding right. unknown

I've been doing alot of tweaking and downloading the last few days, so it could be anything. i wanted to check Microsoft update because for whatever reason, Live Messenger was not logging on and SkyDrive wasn't accessible on my laptop, when both work fine on my desktop. i tried to get to Microsoft update through Google, the link in my start menu, and even the link on the Microsoft homepage but they all ended up on Google with the URL staying as "http://update.microsoft.com/". and it did this with both Chrome and IE7. also, for the last couple days, when i directly double click on the "(C:)" drive, an error pops up about not being able to find some "RECYCLER\S-1-1-14-100023495-100021663-100017297-4700.com" file, but when i type in "C:\" in the address bar, it gets there just fine. also, when i right click on "(C:)" i have the option to AutoPlay, and when i click "open" it asks me what program i would like to use to open "the file C:\". i am currently running an Avast virus scan, but it's a free program so i don't think it will get me very far... help would be greatly appreciated! oh and some programs i have been installing and uninstalling are Gladinet, windows live messenger from "http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/Windows-Live-Messenger-9.shtml" because the actual Microsoft site wasn't working (was told it was a broken link), VLC Media Player, Avast, FreeUndelete, InfraRecorder, WAX 2.0, STOIK Video Converter, and Windows Movie Maker. i have uninstalled STOIK Video Converter, WAX 2.0, NHC ExpressBurn, Windows Live Messenger, and SuperDVD Video Editor.

-UPDATE-

i found the problem with the C:/ drive and Avast was able to fix it. it was a worm called BV:AutoRun-T. as for the other issues, i found another Trojan in my system files called "Win32:Fasec" and it seems to match my symptoms. it says it was deleted, but the problem is still there, even though when i run a thorough scan on the folder it was said to be in, there aren't any reported problems. maybe this was a separate issue and i still have undetected malware, i don't know... but here's an update on the DDS search

Preferred Solution: microsoft update redirects to google, windows live apps stopped working, C:\ drive isn't responding right. unknown

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

so the trojan ended up not letting me run MalwareBytes, or any other powerful anti-malware software, and i was stuck. but after looking around the forums i decided to try renaming the "mbam.exe" file associated with MalwareBytes to mbam123.exe and it worked! it finally opened! however, it didn't let me update the rules file, but i was able to find a download from another post of a more recent update, and it installed just fine. with some anticipation i ran MalwareBytes and finally, it managed to beat this thing. or, i should say... these 12 things... here's the log:

Hello,My computer appears to be infected w/ some sort of malware; I think it's a Trojan.DNSChanger. Symptoms include: 1. http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and http://update.microsoft.com redirect to Google. My AV software, Windows LiveOneCare, isn't able to update from Microsoft either. 2. Attempts to download Windows Defender or Windows Malicious Software Removal tool from Microsoft.com would always time out. It appears I can't download anything from Microsoft.com. (I can, however, download from other sites, e.g., http://download.cnet.com.) 3. When I try going to http://www.malwarebytes.org, Firefox says, "Firefox can't find the server at www.malwarebytes.org."I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware a couple of times. First time MBAM found (and cleaned) 7 infected registry keys, 1 infected registry value, 6 infected registry data items, & 3 infected folders. Restarted my computer per MBAM's cleanup instructions, and problems #1-3 were still present. Ran MBAM again; this time it found & cleaned 4 infected registry data items. However, problems #1-3 are still present. I've attached the MBAM logs in case they might be helpful. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. This is New Topic as directed by Orange Blossom's reply to my original post.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My System is as follows:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Dell DIMENSION DIM2350
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80GHz
1.79GHz 1.00 GB RAM
Windows Update no longer works from Start Menu or manually from Microsoft's website. From the start menu, when selecting Windows Update, it opens IE window but IE reports that "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and has the "Diaognose Connection Problems" box. Typing the url to Mircosoft.com connects fine. Once on the Windows Update page it starts Checking to see if the computer has the latest version and then stops and reoports "X The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view."

Connecting to internet using the Desktop IE icon works and navigates to other sites ok too but often getting a Windows box stating "Generic Host Process for Win 32 Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. Do you want to report this to Microsoft..etc." I have selected to report it many times and then IE will usually shut down. Good evening. Download TDSSKiller.zip from Kaspersky from here and save it to your Desktop. You will then need to extract the file(s) from the zipped folder.

To do this: Right-click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...
In the Extraction Wizard window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again.
In the final window, click on Finish

Please close all open programs as this may result in a reboot being necessary.
Double click TDSSKiller.exe to begin. Click Start scan and allow the tool to do just that. One the scan has completed, if the tool has identified anything allow it to carry out it's default action(s) - you'll need to click Continue where appropriate. Finally, if it prompts you to reboot your machine, please click Reboot Now and ensure that your machine does so.

If the scan finds nothing, please click the Report button and let me have a copy of the text file that opens. If you reboot your machine, the log, which i'd like to see, will be located at the root of you hard drive as C:\TDSSKiller.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.
Please check that you get the one with the right date and time.

Hi - I really hope you can help me... For a week or so when clicking on links from google I was being redirected to other sites. I'm not sure how or when this started. I tried to follow some steps to clean it up from the internet but when using TFC.exe I got a blue screen when booting up in both normal and safe mode. I had to do a repair install using my window XP disk.

I've run through all the steps in your guide and some files were deleted by combofix but now when I open internet explorer and type in an address other than the home page I get a pop up saying "The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context."

All the logs are attached / below.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

I have 4 computers on a network - 2 wired & 2 (occasional on network) wireless. All 4 are showing the same symptoms: I can't get to get certain sites such as update.microsoft.com, download.microsoft.com, or any site with download in the name, www.malwarebytes.org, most antivirus web sites, online virus scanners, etc. I have tried to troubleshoot this problem for weeks & nothing seems to work! Three of the computers have XP SP2. One has Vista Sp1. The Vista machine is only a couple of months old. I have even used restore on it & it still has this virus. Noron Antivirus 2009, AVG, Sysem Suite 8, Avast, Kaspersky, Spy-bots, Ad-Aware, and others are unable to fix this problem. I can get into safe mode. Any help will be most gratefully received.

If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. I've been doing alot of tweaking and downloading the last few days, so it could be anything. i wanted to check Microsoft update because for whatever reason, Live Messenger was not logging on and SkyDrive wasn't accessible on my laptop, when both work fine on my desktop. i tried to get to Microsoft update through Google, the link in my start menu, and even the link on the Microsoft homepage but they all ended up on Google with the URL staying as "http://update.microsoft.com/". and it did this with both Chrome and IE7. also, for the last couple days, when i directly double click on the "(C:)" drive, an error pops up about not being able to find some "RECYCLER\S-1-1-14-100023495-100021663-100017297-4700.com" file, but when i type in "C:\" in the address bar, it gets there just fine. also, when i right click on "(C:)" i have the option to AutoPlay, and when i click "open" it asks me what program i would like to use to open "the file C:\". i am currently running an Avast virus scan, but it's a free program so i don't think it will get me very far... help would be greatly appreciated! oh and some programs i have been installing and uninstalling are Gladinet, windows live messenger from "http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/Windows-Live-Messenger-9.shtml" because the actual Microsoft site wasn't working (was told it was a broken link), VLC Me... You have a DDS/HJT log posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

I have an Asus Z53E series laptop. I never had this problem before, & suddenly I started to get this message around two months ago: "Asus live update stopped working", then internet explorer closes. The fault module name is: "kernel32.dll"
I don`t understand what`s changed for the live update to stop working, the only downloads done on the last couple of months have been mostly automatic windows updates, & other general updates like adobe.

I have realized recently that "Asus live update" seems to close when I try to upload pictures from my computer to facebook. It seems to go crazy when I attempt any sort of Internet uploading. What I`ve been doing is exiting the Live update when the messagge window pops up, & that seems to be working, for the time being. But the problem is still there.
Somebody said in a forum that "Asus live update" is useless, & that it should be removed from the programs cos it has no use & it malfunctions a lot. I think this is a bit drastic; is it really totally useless?
Can anyone help with this matter? It`s frustrating
Thanks!

Answer:Asus live update stopped working

I am a firm believer in trying to get the most out of any tool that comes with your computer. Some are nice to have others, I could live with out.

BUT..... In your case I did a google search for "Asus live update" and the first three listings were rants. I clicked one site thinking there would be mixed reviews, nope. Not one person had even one thing positive to say about the program. I say llok for any update and see if it helps. If not, get it off your computer before it blows it up.

Resource Hog, Wacks Out, Laptop Gets Real Hot When Running, Has Never Worked Right In All It's Years.

These usually are not words used in positive reveiws of programs. And on eery site I seen the same words over and over and over and over lol. The name makes it sound like it could be good.

Hi,
I've noticed that recently my app for transferring photos from Sony cameras (Remote Photo) stopped working, i.e. it fails to detect the camera (tried resetting the wi-fi network, updating camera firmware, changing password, changing network settings).
I've tried 3 other apps that should be able to connect to the camera (M2 Sony Camera Remote, which used to work before too, as well as Sony RX Remote and Locana), neither of them seems to be able to connect to the camera (despite the Wi-Fi network connecting normally, just showing "No Internet", but that's normal).
I believe it started after one of the recent WP10 updates (don't see any other reason why it would suddenly stop working).
Anything I can do? Any ideas? Can/should I notify Microsoft somehow?
Thanks

Hello,
So my laptop has just stopped working - it will load up with the desktop background and the icons on the desktop but nothing else will appear or work.
It keeps coming up with a box that says 'microsoft windows has stopped responding. if you wait it may start responding. end process'
If I leave it, nothing happens, it just stays.
If I close it then the box goes away but still nothing works at all, I can't click on anything and the mouse is just a little spinning wheel.
If I click end process it does the same thing..
I've tried turning it off, holding the power button down till the laptop turns off, and turning it on again but that doesn't seem to fix the problem, it just does the same thing all over again. Nothing seems to work and I can't really find an answer anywhere.
I've tried starting up task manager, but when I press down Ctrl Alt Del the screen goes black, stays black for about five mins and then goes back onto the desktop background, still unable to do anything.
No clue, please help! :(

I have checked for errors with sfc /scannow and it says errors will be fixed on reboot. I checked for ram errors and it is fine. I also repaired and compacted my registry with norton utilities 15. If I boot into safe mode it works fine. This all happened from a cd falling and turning my power strip off. Any ideas :(?

After a recent Microsoft update, the cd/dvd player on my computer has stopped working.  Previously, it worked just fine. When I checked in the device status, it says "This device is working properly."  However, when I put in a dvd, it spins a little and then a pop up box tells me to insert a disc into drive E.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video graphics, etc., but to no avail.  In addition, I tried to update the drivers and that still did not work.  (The cd/dvd drive is listed as hp DVDRW SU 208GB SATA in properties.)  I have also tried to play an audio cd, but that doesn't work either.

Hello,

As of a couple of days ago, when I click a Google search result link, I'm usually redirected to a random website. I also sometimes get random popups on sites on which I never got any before.

Every once in a while, I get a message saying, "Host process for Windows services stopped working and was closed", and my computer and Internet connection slow down. Sometimes after this happens, program windows, the taskbar, and other Windows visuals revert to a simple, Windows 95-esque level.

This is a huge annoyance, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

EDIT - Sorry, just noticed my file didn't attach when I first posted this. It's attached now.

I'm having some issues with a random infection that occurred about a week ago. I've run just about every antivirus program under the sun, from Malwarebytes to AVG and Avast to try and catch everything, but something is lurking beneath the surface and away from the AV scans. I'm having a few performance issues, but to be honest this may not be related to the virus. Just random slowdowns here and there. However, I am completely unable to turn on the Windows security center. Every time that I try an error message pops up saying that it cannot be started. Also, whenever I google something (or even go to yahoo, for that matter) and attempt to open one of the search results, my browser is hijacked and taken to a random search engine like yellowpages.com Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. (Note: I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, so no GMER file) My log file is as follows:

Hello,

Like many others, it seems, I am experiencing difficulties with all searches on Firefox and IE being redirected to advertisement sites. Also, every so often a new tab will randomly open to an advertisement site.

Additionally, I have experienced the error message "Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed" about a dozen times. After this happens, Windows Media Player will stop showing the time countdown for songs and videos, and Firefox windows will look more like a Windows 95 window (hard to explain, but the smooth looking display common to Vista seems to be replaced by a more rigid display in the window).

All of this started happening yesterday. First, I experienced non-stop warnings from Sysinternal Antivirus. I followed some directions from a Google search and managed to get those to stop. But now I'm stuck with this other problem of persistent pop-ups and other problems.

The computer is 2 years old, so I have no idea where the Windows CD is.
Finally, I wasn't able to compress the two requested files with anything other than WinRAR (it was the default option when I followed the instructions, and I couldn't find the Windows Zip utility), so I just attached both txt files. I hope this isn't an issue.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided!

I am having a few problems. As the title states when I search on google i am redirected to spam sites. This is happening less but still happens even on common searches for sites that I know and visit. Also having the host process for windows has stopped working windows will notify you when resolved. This all started last night when the Windows Antivirus Pro virus hit my laptop. It would try to make me go and purchase the program to clean my laptop but I googled how to get rid of it and it seems to be gone but since then these new problems have popped up. Also when I try to run the rootkit scanner it sends my laptop into black screen every time so I cant finish the scan and post the results. Was able to run dds. Thanks for anyone who can help ive ran all the free scanners, ccleaner, clean up, spybot, everything I know and cant resolve it.

Greetings,

I am using Windows XP SP3. On shutdown of my laptop I received a message about Microsoft Updates to install and computer would shutdown when finished installing. An hour later the updates still had not finished installing so I shut down my laptop manually.

When I turned on my laptop I received a message stating could not find C:windows/system 32/ juschd.exe.bat file, however, computer continued to boot up and all appeared well.

I then tried to update McAfee and the Security Center was not able to update so I type in the address bar of Internet Explore www.mcafee.com and Internet Explore was not able to display the page. I also found I could not get to any site with "McAfee" in the address.

I called McAfee and after a hour they said I need to call a different department and that there would be an additional charge.

So I decided to try and fix this on my own. Researched and found that this might be a MTU size error so made registry entry of hkey_local_machine\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndiswan
Parameters\Protocols\0... ProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000800 PPPProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000021 ProtocolMTU REG_DWORD 1452.

This did not work. Then read to uninstall McAfee. So I uninstalled McAfee including showing all folders and files and then deleting them. Needless to say this did not work. I still could not visit the McAfee websites.

Then I found this forum and did some more reading. Wish I had found this forum first.

We had a computer that was infected with a virus which was responsible for the annoying "XP 2011 Security...." pop up. To the best of our knowledge we successfully removed that virus. I recently discovered, on the same machine, that Microsoft and Windows Update and Windows Defender Update won't work with the error "error number: 0X80070424". I also found the Firewall had been disabled (one of the services had been removed). The microsoft fix utility did not fix the problem. Symantec Antivirus and Malwarebytes found nothing. Spybot Search and Destroy found a few harmless things and the Sophos Rootkit checker found nothing of significance.

My google searches are being redirect to various sites and i receive a error message saying "dell wireless wlan card has stopped working" but im still using my wireless internet just fine. They both started acting up after an ill advised download from a bit torrent site. I scanned my computer with malwarebytes and it found some infections but did not do anything for me, then i scanned with avg anti-virus and it found nothing. (malwarebytes and avg anti-virus are the only anti virus software i have and are both fully updated)

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows Vista Basic
AMD Athlon 64 x2

Whenever im redirected i get 1 of 2 images in the address bar (see attachment)

I've just this morning had about half of my apps cease working with the message "application cannot work" or words to the effect of.

I've found a few solutions on-line but they all require me to run secpol.msc, which all seems to do with security statuses, and my machine apparently doesn't have that in order to run it!

Any clues as to what I can do?

Answer:Apps on Windows 10 system have stopped working

Do you have a system restore point created from prior to when the apps stopped working? If you do, then you can try restoring to that point. I presume the apps that are not working are the native Microsoft ones such as photos, calendar, weather etc? They are the ones most prone to corrupting.

if the above fails you could try opening store (if that is still working) and check if any updates are stuck

1. Wanted to post this issue with Windows 8 PRO 64 bit recently.
2. My Apps stopped working and all recovery efforts failed to get them working again.
3. Ran several malware and anti-virus programs and still no help to get my Apps working again.
4. I click on an App and the display just returns to the start display.
5. So, I had to reinstall Windows 8 from scratch since none of the "RESTORE" listing would restore.
6. I had not made a "recovery drive" so that was not an option.

Answer:Apps stopped working and reinstall Windows 8 PRO 64 bit

welcome to the forum, crgurganus.
Remove any security related programs... and see what what happens.. or else try the refresh option using windows 8 installation disc, it is so because the security programs stop the modern apps from functioning properly... if the apps become well, install your security program once again with the most latest virus definitions and program update.

I hope someone can help me. I got on my PC last night and all my metro 8.1 apps stopped working. They keep saying that they failed and to go to PC settings to refresh. At first even PC settings would not open up, it would say missing Media and installation files. I checked my Event Viewer and this started on 2/5 at 6am but I have not had any driver updates since 1/31. I found a blog post where I ran some powershell script to get into PC settings but now when I click on "Refresh" it says media or installation files not found. I downloaded 8.1 update from the windows store.
Does anyone know why all of a sudden all my metro apps stopped working and how to fix it?
Thanks for your help

Answer:all my Metro Apps stopped working on windows 8.1

You need to update windows to the latest version and allow windows firewall to work

Hey!
I had problems with windows 10 tp so i rerolled back to windows 8.1 and now none of windows live apps won't work. I can't use calendar, mail or onedrive and can't download anything from store, it says my account cant sync at the moment. Any suggestions?

Answer:Why have some of my apps stopped working since downgrading my Windows OS?

PC or laptop?
Reboot. Log in with your Microsoft Account. I assume it is linked.
Try logging onto Microsoft Account via browser and see if it generates any messages.

I'm personally going to try to make this simple, and yet cover all of my problems in a small thread.

I updated windows 8.1 pro with wmc from store.

I had NO problems, received no error messages, had no dc's, the power didn't shut off, the download didn't stop .. literally nothing went wrong. After update everything worked fine. All the apps are downloaded and were working fine.

But,

After 2/3 months since updated, I suddenly noticed that every live tile / folder / app / game / setting etc. which were working fine, now not working.
When I clicked on any tile, nothing happened. It just went to a blank green screen because my background color is green. It appears on the left upper corner as opened but doesn't run. When I click, I am send back to Start Screen or Desktop. Even Store and Windows Setting stopped working. So, naturally i started checking the web for answers, but couldn't find a solution to the exact problem i was having. I saw countless posts of people saying "Just uninstall / re-install the apps" but at first, I couldn't get my App store app to run. Again, it was just blank after several minutes of waiting. I was able to download it after using the search bar menu on the right side of my computer, and was able to start installing some apps.
NEXT PROBLEM:
So i thought that everything was going to be ok, but then I ran into another problem where some of the apps wouldn't install, and I received an error message with the code/number of 0x80070002... Read more

I don't know how this happened or when. One day I noticed that the calculator app stopped working. Then I checked others and most of the essential apps that windows comes with including Store app is not working.
These apps which are not working flashes their windows only to close immediately.
There was a desktop program I was using regularly, also stopped working. Here is the link: https://spritesheetpacker.codeplex.com/
I tried this tutorial: How to Uninstall Windows 10s Built-in Apps (and How to Reinstall Them)
Uninstalled some of the apps and reinstalled all of them. The only change is now there is an extra popup which says "This app can't open. See more infor in Store." Store is also not opening.
Please let me know if more information is needed. I am not using insider or anything. My windows is updated.

Hello, one of the best features of Win 10 (in my opinion) is the in-place repair install, which I suggest is the most straightforward approach. It is much faster if your Windows is installed on a SSD. Many times on this forum broken apps, start menu, task bar are reported. Feel free to search the forum.

It's a good idea to precede this by running
chkdsk C: /F
from an admin level (elevated) command prompt
(windows key +X, click command prompt (admin)

An In-place upgrade repair install will fix many things, but not those where the settings are not changed by the procedure.

For this you need an installation medium with the same base build as you have installed.

Hi, I've been trying to solve this problem for a week now, and have scouring various forums. I first noticed a problem on my Desktop running Vista Home Premium. The automatic updates were unable to connect to microsoft's servers, so I tried going there and updating manually. When I type update.microsoft.com into any web browser I am sent instead to Google English. The URL remains what I typed in the address bar, but the page is clearly Google English and functions as the same. Running through various forums it became clear that it must be malware of some sort and I've been given many recommendations as to which scanners (online and install) that I should use. Some scanners I can download, but will not update (they all say that they cannot connect to their server). Others, when I try to visit their site (such as malwarebytes.org) I get a 'page cannot be found' error. I have successfully download malwarebytes through CNet, but again, when it tries to update its definitions it is unable to connect to their server. It is clearly not a connection problem as I can surf the internet perfectly fine, it is just these sites that could potentially fix my problem are all blocked.

I have found this same problem now on 3 of my computers (which is all but the laptop running Ubuntu). Its happening on my HP Pavilion Media Center m8120n running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit (2 x 300GB hard drives, 4 GB ram), as well as my Dell XPS M2010 running Windows XP Pro SP 2... Read more

I'd like to try to get a more detailed log from GMER rootkit scanner.

Let's try this version of gmer. It will be a randomly named executable.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.
In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you still have troubles, try running the scan in Safe Mode.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

In past few days, I witness that many apps have stopped working for Windows Phone. This is the worst thing. Messenger app is no longer working for Windows Phone. Amazon shut down their app on windows phone long ago. Many other apps are showing a message that very soon they will shut down their app on windows phone. What the hell. No one will buy your older windows phone even. It is the complete loss of the windows phone user. Microsoft should say something on this. Even they are not releasing windows 10 build for the windows phone 8.1 users.

Hello, I apologize if this issue has been addressed a million times, but I have tried various ways to fix this problem by reading other posts but to no avail I succeeded. When I was using Windows Live Messenger about half an hour ago, it worked fine. I wasn't downloading and installing anything either. I logged into my inbox, and deleted an email I received from someone. When I logged out of my inbox and signed out of Windows Live Messenger, I immediately tried to sign back in because I forgot to do some changes in my Windows Live Messenger setting; hence, my Windows Live Messenger would begin to show "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working" for no reason. It was working half an hour ago, and then it stopped working seconds later. I tried to "run as administrator"; looked into my download history; uninstalled some really recent things I have downloaded yesterday which was Grease Monkey for my Firefox; repaired Windows Live; and uninstalled and installed. It's frustrating to me not knowing why it worked fine, and then it stopped working as soon as I decided to sign back in. This is mainly the problem here, and I do not know of any other solutions to fix this. Any help is appreciated, and thank you for taking the time to read!

I am very happy with Windows 7 and with Windows live mail. However, recently on rare occasions when I have tried to open Windows live mail, it starts up greyed over and with a message that it has stopped working, and Windows is looking for a solution. Immediately after that it will open as normal again. This only happens rarely. I believe that I have found a solution.C/Program files/Windows live/Installer. Double click on wlarp, and select REPAIR. Everything has been fine since I did this a couple of weeks ago.

Hi,
I downloaded WLM Version 2009 (latest build) a few weeks ago and not been able to use messenger ever since. Every time I start the program comes with:

"Windows Live Communications Platform has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

and then a windows pups up with a message saying that Data Execution Prevention has closed Windows Live Communications Platform.

I read that some people have installed the A-patch, went to the site downloaded the latest patch, for Version 2009 latest build, and no luck. I have re-installed several times also...no luck

I need messenger urgently and I'm frustrated...Any help please....Johnny

I've lost count of the number of times I've read the above message and its follow on comment that the program will be closed and notification given if a solution found. Plus the auto follow up message about closing for reason of data protection. No amount of uninstalls and reinstalls (of WLM) work. Any going back to an old WLM is not accepted as it advised I need to update to a newer version. Then the same result as described.

I encountered problem after setting laptop back to Vista factory settings. I have now caught up with SP2. There was a Microsoft follow up advising I should await Vista updates catching up with SP2. This has now happened but still I receive the same message each time I try to open WLM.

I have seen the problem posted previously but have not seen a solution that I haven't tried. I cannot set back to an earlier WLM. I have tried without a firewall (Norton) and disabling the webcam (logitech for notebooks) but nothing works.

There must be a definitive solution somewhere. Can anyone help please.

when i load up windows live messenger, it comes up with this...

windows live messenger has stopped working
windows can check online for a solution to the problem

then i can either click on
-check online for a solution and close the program
OR
-close the program

when clicking on check online for a solution and close the program, it searches for about 5 seconds, then says 'the application failed to initialize properly (0x0000005). Click OK to terminate the application.

so i do so. Now it says...

-check online for a solution and restart the program
OR
-Restart the program

which ever one i click on it restarts and comes back to the initial error bar (check online for a solution and close the program, or close the program)

so i click close the program, and have to to so about 3 times for it to dissapear, nothing has changed, same happens again if i load it up again!

IM SURE YOU CAN SEE MY FRUSTRATION?!!?!?!? please please please help somebody?

Hi folks, Having blocked the update to Windows 10, I now find my Windows Live Mail account has stopped responding. A message from Microsoft I found on line tells me that a recent update is now required to let me use WLM. Is this another attempt by MS to force us to accept the W10 updates?
Outlook.com mail is still OK at present.
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

Answer:Windows Live Mail stopped working

so why have you blocked updates?
yes its true win 10 needs to update to keep WLM working.

Back to my " last resort " again -- PC's Helpdesk !! For some reason I am suddenly unable to access my email programme -- WLM,( am using W7 ) I get the message that is my subject heading, then a reference that it will try a " WLM Storage Recovery " , by checking the WLM " Data Base "Nothing is achieved , so it closes the programme. I cannot even get into my existing email files , let alone see my Inbox. Did see a comment while trying the WLM help web pages , that I may be low on disc space in Local Disc " C " -- I was , so was able to sacrifice lots of " My Pictures " , to gain about 5 gig of space. Another comment I came across seemed to infer that W7 was no longer supporting Windows Mail -- assuming that means W7 is now running WLM only. Any ideas ?? Redlegs

Windows Live Mail did not shutdown correctly - How do I resolve?

Answer:Windows Mail Live stopped working

Hello Rchalkfpl,

To help prevent this from happening, be sure to close Windows Live Mail (WLM) before shutting down, turrning off, or putting to sleep the computer.

If that's a message you are seeing in the message preview window in WLM, then you should have a link to click on to still see the message.

If not, then could you give more details on this?

Okay here it goes.
I recently formatted my pc having windows vista home premium 32 bit. (Installed the same now)
I installed Windows Live Messenger and whenever i sign in it gives me this error :
Windows Live Messenger has stopped working.
Here's a snap of it : http://i36.tinypic.com/34jbojr.jpg
I have no idea how this thing is happening.
Happens on its own.
This is the third time i have formatted my pc.
The first time There was a similar/same problem.
The second time there was absolutely no problem i.e WLM worked perfectly.
And now , the third time it gives me the same error it gave me initially.
PS : I also use Live Plus! (the extension as you all may know), but to be honest i don't see any link since that software is supposed to be used and it also says it supports on Vista.. and obviously they won't release the software if it creates problems. Just to try i uninstalled it and the problem was still there.

So can you guys help me out on this ?
I'm really screwed up at the moment. Can't chat with my friends. =(
Thanks
- Vinay

Answer:Windows Live Messenger has stopped Working

Answer:Windows live mail has stopped working

Try repairing your mail. Go to programmes and features select windows live essentials and a window will appear with the option to repair or uninstall. Always a good idea to back up your mail, contacts and account to an external drive just in case it goes wrong, though I haven't heard of that happening it's always better to be safe and not risk losing anything.

ok, well I seem to have been infected with something weird that I can't get rid of. I have tried ad-aware and removed everything that came up, but I'm still having problems. When I try to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/, I am redirected to google.comAlso, when I use a search engine, sometimes the results redirect to other search engines, but when I type the address in manually it goes directly to the correct site. It only does this with certain search results though, not all, and http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ always redirects to google.com no matter if I search for it or if I type it in manually. The main problem I have though, is that I cant download anything from microsoft.com. I click the link, it opens a new window and tries to connect to download.microsoft.com, then I get a page cannot be displayed error. Please help me, it would be greatly appreciated.BTW, I noticed that in the DDS.txt report, AVG Internet Security shows up as my antivirus and AVG Firewall shows up as my firewall, but this is incorrect because I have uninstalled both of these, so I don't know why it showed up in the DDS report. Maybe it has something to do with my problem?DDS.txt Report:DDS (Ver_09-01-07.01) - NTFSx86

Hello, I have a problem. This whole deal basicly started when i about after Christmas installed the game Spore on my computer. During the instalation it said that some graphic drive routies (i have my computer language set to swedish, so im not sure if it quite translates as that) were outdated and should be updated. I tried gaming, it worked, shut down from time to time (i will get to a point with this!). i decided to update. So, when i used microsoft update from the start menu it redirected to msn.com and windows update turned up blank page. two days later windows update redirected to google and microsoft update went to an odd 404 not found.I have a picture of it, but its to big to upload.I also have some problems with AVG 8.0 Free: It cant update. this problem started before the other. And even before that, my Norton Antivirus keeps telling me that it is not updated when it is (sometimes it downloads and installs updates, put it still says that it is not up to date)I found that my problem is suspiciously similar to that which is described by an other user here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/lof...hp/t193557.htmlI have some other smaller problems as well, but these are not urgent.Eagerly awaits a response and hopes that I have provided enough info.

Hello, I have a problem. I should start off by saying that I am running Windows XP Home SP2 on my Mac through the application Parallels Desktop. Everything to do with XP is running fine, except for two things. First, whenever I go to the Windows/Microsoft update websites, it always redirects me to Google; it doesn't matter if I've clicked the link from the Automatic Updates control panel, or if I've typed it in manually, it always redirects to Google. I'm wondering if I have some sort of malware or virus on my computer because I know that my Mac has a virus, and I'm wondering if it's affecting the Windows XP portion of the computer too. The reason I mentioned AVG here is because I saw another person post the exact same problem as mine, and this person't problem started out with AVG failing to update (I have AVG Internet Security 8.0). Any suggestions?

Hello MLS122171,I see that you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/202164/windows-update-redirects-to-google/ We do not allow more than one topic for the same computer and the same issue as this causes confusion, and in this case may make the disinfection process more difficult. This leaves you with a choice:1) Have this thread reopened and moved to the Am I Infected forum and the HiJack This log topic deletedOR2) Keep this thread closed and wait for assistance in the HiJack This log forum. Please note that that forum is VERY busy. Please send a Private Message indicating your choice.Assuming you wish assistance in the HiJack This forum, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. Hello all, my 1st post.

Brought a brandnew Dell Dimension in 2006 for young son. Since then retired to the Philippines and shipped the still boxed PC with us.

Its running XP Home Edition ver 2002 SP2. IE ver 6.0.2900. I finally unboxed the PC after 3 yrs. hooked everything up connected to the internet. Everything good so far, but when i opened IE all hell broke loose. Since this is a new installed PC, all the loaded software including Virus protection, Dell, Microsoft programs wanted to be updated or registered.

Then i noticed that i was being redirected from Microsoft update site, Dell site and others to a GOOGLE search. Now i can't update anything via the NET. What a bummer, my kid all excited about his 1st PC.

After 2 days of searching the Net for solutions on my laptop i found many having the same problem or BUG.

I used my laptop to download and transfer with CD several suggested programs (Hijack,Spybot,SuperAntiSpy,Combofix) to the affected PC.
No Software has been able to stop the brower from redirecting to GOOGLE.

I really am desperate right now esp since i got a lil kid looking over my shoulder.

The dell pc did not come with a installation disk we only have a RESTORE POINT for backup.

Do i have a browser bug or WHAT? no programs can be updated and we are stuck in the MuD.

Help Please.
Regards>> QDaWg

Hi.
I'm new to this forum, so bare with me if I have misposted please.
I have been helping my teacher with her computer and I'm quite sure she has some sort of virus on it.

There are three things I have found out so far:

1. Trying to run Windows update results in getting redirected to Google.
2. The Anti-Virus Program no longer connects with the update server.
3. Running disk defragmenter is not possible.

I have been looking at these forums, and I have made logs using DDS and HijackThis. I'm unsure if I should post any of them here. I found one guideline about posting the DDS, but no I cant find it so I have not posted it.

I have been using my usb-stick on my teachers computer, and today I had a warning from AVG about there is a file in the recycler on the stick called Win32/Cryptor. I have googled this and it led me back to a forum here on BleepingComputers.

I don't want to start doing anything to my teaches computer before I have heard from you guys. Her computer is a winXP pro with SP3. It's in Spanish language.

So I've seen this problem all across the internet, but I haven't found a stable solution. I hope someone from here can help me =)

Recently, I've downloaded a couple of screensavers. They all work perfectly fine, but some of them will produce the error in my title. If I preview the screensaver or use the screensaver, then move my mouse to close it, I get a window saying "Windows Live Communications Platform Has Stopped Working" and I get the normal options of closing and sending a report, or just closing the program. My Windows Live Messenger will be signed out, and I will need to sign on again.

Now, like I said, not every single screen saver does that to me. Only certain ones. I downloaded four of them thus far: Inception screensaver from the Inception website; both Dark Knight screensavers from The Dark Knight website, and the Batman Arkham Asylum screensaver. Only the Batman: Arkham Asylum screensaver works perfectly, and does not give me the above error message.

The Problem Details from Windows 7 are as follows:

Hi,
im currently in university accomodation with free broadband internet use, this is good but it is restricted in the fact that not all ports are useable, torrents limewire etc are all blocked which is fine for me.

However i like to use msn and more specifically video chat. This worked fine in the first couple of weeks that i was here, however i tried again more recently and it seems it doesnt work for me. It does for other people in my accomodation block. When i try to enable my webcam it displays the image from it and says connecting, then live messanger just says it cannot connect, try again later.

I have reinstalled live messanger, tried using windows messanger (forgot how awful that was) and i have gone into networking services and enabled UPnP. I have tried with a number of contacts with no avail. I have also tried a new webcam which was no help, both webcams work on the pc, recording videos and taking pictures, but not on msn or live messanger.

Ive tried searchin google to no avail, im using xp so the thread on here about vista doesnt help me.

My copy of xp is fully updated, windows firewall is enabled and im using a NOD32 protection suite with IMON internet monitor included.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give as much detail as possible,
Does anyone have any ideas whats up?

Thanks,
Khris

Windows live essentials will not run and I get the above message every time I try to run it. This has been happening for about a couple of weeks. I've tried to re-install and to repair but still the same. I get the same message at times when trying to run internet explorer directly from a link. eg the microsoft fix it link. repeated error boxes keep coming up (maybe 10 times) until it can finally be crossed off.

Can someone help me please?

Answer:Windows live essentials has stopped working & internet

Windows is doing away with The Windows Live branding. Maybe this has something to do with your problem??

Maybe if you download it and re install it , may help.

After trying Auslogics/Puran I find that free Defraggler is the best defrag for system performance (replace windows defrag on install, and be sure to temp disable your AV during installation/defrag or it won't allow Hosts file changes...!).

There are 2 things you need to pre-do Before opening WLM (I have a pretty fast i7-2600 computer Win 7 Pro 32/4gig memory, with a 10k rpm WD Raptor sata6 HD so you may have to adjust your wait times accordingly.....?)-

1. Temp disable your AV's webguard (wait 1min).
2. If your browser is open, minimize it for 1min (I set IE to default, but browse with latest FF).
You will need a timer/second clock..., and if WLM stops working wait 2min to close or it will be corrupted (watch your HD light, WLM is still closing in background & I wait 5min before re-opening WLM).

1. Open WLM & let it load for 3min before doing Anything.
2. Now for the 30sec rule before final clicking ALL!- Pre-Put your cursor on what you want to click & Always wait 30sec after the bubble closes BEFORE/After clicking ANYTHING!
3. Go to Tools/Options/... & disable Send messages immediately (messages take 1min+ to final queue).
4. NEVER delete A message after viewing!- Close & wait ... Read more

I have noticed in the last few weeks that Windows Live Messenger don't start as it should be.
Clicking the icon, opens the windows live messenger conneting window saying it is connecting, etc, but after a while comes out a message saying: windows live communications platform stopped working!
Does anyone knows how to solve this?
Thanks,
Jorge

Answer:windows live communications platform stopped working!

Hello Jorge, you joined just before I did The first thing I would do is try a System Restore point from before the problem started if you have one. It is also often suggested to update to the latest version if you have not already. Uninstalling, then reinstalling is also a suggestion.

Here is something else to try. Try deleting the wldlog.dll On x64 Version of Windows 7 this is located in

C:\program files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared

In x86 version it would be

C:\program files\Windows Live\Shared

Save a copy of the dll just in case. Right click on the dll and choose Copy. Now go to desktop and right click an empty area and choose Paste. This will give you a copy to copy back in case of any problems. Now delete the wldlog.dll and Try and launch messenger. If no fix, just copy the wldlog.dll back to it's original location. Let us know how it goes. If you'd like extra assurance, create a System Restore point before you start:

In lieu of a better answer, go back with System Restore. That should put you back to square one.

Answer:windows live communications platform has stopped working

I had the exact same problem with the wlcomm.exe file and got the same message etc., as you are getting. I finally found a page that helped me to fix my login problems that started after applying the forced update. Mine was the Nvidia problem and when I shut that process down I was able to sign in No Problem.
Messenger Support Space - Windows Live That Page has a few different things to try. I sure hope this helps you out. Extrememly frustrating problem to deal with.

Good Luck

Hi all,

I recently installed a couple new screen savers. They work exactly like they're supposed to but once I return to to my computer a warning appears saying "Windows Live Communication Platform has stopped working" and windows live messenger gets signed out. This is the "problem details" provided:

Any ideas on why these screen savers are affecting messenger like this?

Answer:Windows Live Communications Platform has stopped working

Code presumably from the screen saver (saver1.dll) has been injected into the wlcomm process. There appears to be a problem in saver1.dll and that in turn makes the entire process crash.

I'd suggest either finding an updated version of the screen saver software, and in particular the saver1.dll module, or removing it. It's almost certainly a bug in the current version of saver1.dll.

[SOLVED]

The title says most of it.

Recently (within the past couple hours, actually), I've been experiencing this error whenever I attempt to sign into Windows Live Messenger on my main e-mail. What I find odd about it, though, is that I can sign into Windows Live Messenger on any account other than my main one. Example: I'm able to sign into [email protected] and [email protected] but not [email protected] (main account).

This is all the information I'm presented with about the error:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: wlcomm.exe
Application Version: 14.0.8117.416
Application Timestamp: 4bc91069
Fault Module Name: ESENT.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.0.6002.18005
Fault Module Timestamp: 49e037b5
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0013e3fe
OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: 73a5
Additional Information 2: fef3ecf69fe874d496a1b3431f56b028
Additional Information 3: ed98
Additional Information 4: 4eb82a5ca9c4cdf4610a55cee4323dba
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, deleting certain files (as instructed by other threads), downloading file fixes, cleaning my registry, scanning my computer for viruses (with 4+ different programs), and everything else I could think of - I just don't seem to be able to find a fix. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows Live Communications Platform has stopped working.

I'm curious; are you using the beta version of Windows live?
If you are using the Beta, try the non-beta one or vice versa.
Sorry I couldn't help much.

You might also want to check to make sure all the latest updates for Windows are installed if you haven't already done that.

Good luck.
