Question: COMPUTER LOADING SLOW,INTERNET SLOW,POPUPS

This is my first time posting a question on bleeping computer. We are so thankful that you are out there to help us and not rip us off. I think my computer is infected. My desktop starts up very slowly, my internet connection is slow (it's slow in pulling up websites and some never come up). I'm getting lots of pop ups (even though pop up blocker is enabled). When I go to open the control panel, a flashlight pops up as if it is looking for it (it eventually does open but it takes a while). I had a problem at one time with a lot of POS.TMP files and followed advice from posts on this site to get rid of them. Well, my current problems started when a friend downloaded a music program. I believe it was called Soundman. When I noticed the computer acting funny, I went into the control panel and deleted it along with some other programs I found (PPC Booster, P2P Max, Ron Tool Adsoftinc, Wyzo, Eco Bar). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Preferred Solution: COMPUTER LOADING SLOW,INTERNET SLOW,POPUPS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello and welcome to Bleeping ComputerWe apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up.Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.Upon completing the steps below a staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware. At first glance I see that you have quite a bit of infection on there. It appears that someone has been doing file sharing on that computer, so the fact that it is infected is understandable. Please remove P2P (file sharing programs) before I clean your computer. The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state. There is a list here: http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesfor...php?topic=110.0Following that I will need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.DDS.comDDS.scrDDS.pifDouble click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_ScanFollow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop. Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. Information on A/V control HERE

Answer:Computer loading internet very slow

Hello, my name is Pizza and Pepsi and I will be trying to help you solve your problem.
Besides the internet, is anything else slow?

Try to run these scanners:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes'
Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
Post the log back here.

Hello. for the last week or so my computer has been running slow everytime the internet loads. The computer never used to run slow when the internet was loading. And it even runs fine every once and a while. Some examples are.-When I browse web pages I usly look at more then one thing. I use firefox, so what I do is while one page is loading I open up another tab and look at that site. But recently when the other page is loading the computer runs slow.-Is used to be able to watch gamespot videos. What would happen before is.... It would load 25% of the video then play that 25% while the other 75% is loading, and the video would run smooth and fine. But now I can only watch the video once it is 100% loaded, because once it has 100% loaded the video then the internet isn't really being used.-When playing cames at teagames.com the games run slow because the game is constantly loading. It has been doing that for over a week now but I was playing it 2 days ago and it was running fine, but most of the time it is really slow.It has been doing this for about a week now. I have run four diffrent virus scanners (AVG, Trend Micro, KasperSky, stinger virus scanner) and I have no viruses. I have run spyware programs (Spybot, Pest Patrol, Spyware doctor, Ad-Aware) and I have no spyware. I have also run programs like CCleaner, ewido, tuneup utilites 1 click maintenance, and diskkeeper. After running everything the computer still runs slow when loading stuff off the internet. Answer:Computer runs slow when internet is loading

Well, I hope you don't have multiple anti-virus programs running at the same time.  That could slow down your system. Is the computer performing as it should when not online?  I'm wondering whether the problem is actually your Internet connection.  Have you ever ran any Internet speed tests?  I suggest visiting www.dslreports.com and running a speed test and tweaks test.  If you create a user account and are logged on when you run the tests, you can save the results and then see your results compared to others.  You may have issues you need to discuss with your ISP.

Hello, I have a Dell 5558 Inspiron.  the internet is very slow to load.  My wife has a macbook pro that runs circles around my PC for web browsing.  I have tried various tricks to minimize startup functions and background apps.  is this a hardware issue that can be upgraded?  would upgrading the GPU, upgrading to SSD, or adding more RAM help?

Answer:slow internet loading, slow youtube response: Dell 5558

also, this unit has an intel AC-3160 wifi card.  can this be upgraded or adjusted to work better?

I'm including my log at the bottom. I'm not sure what is going on, I see no odd programs installed in Add/Remove Programs but there are a lot of weird things in my HJT log it seems....

Well the problem is my computer is dog slow, various internet pages do not work properly (eg Yahoo mail, Google search, etc...) while others do (such as this one!) and popups randomly appear from time to time to sell me, among other things, anti-spyware products! Wonderful.... If anyone can please help me with this I would be very very grateful!

My laptop is experiencing several problems at the moment. To start with, startup usually takes longer then usual. I also get a message about the paging file being too low, either during or shortly after the startup. I also usually run into a few warnings labeled "bad image", and the warning says something about a missing dll. In addition, the computer itself is running very slowly-- if I try to do even the simplest of things, like opening up Notepad, it could take far longer than usual.

Currently, my computer is offline. Whenever I stick the ethernet cable into it, though, I can get on the Internet just fine... except I suddenly get a bunch of popups trying to load at once. Even if I don't have any browsers open, I'll get popups from both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. The browsers will go to random websites I've never been to before, or they'll just be an ad for something.

I tried running all the anti-malware programs and such as described in the sticky a few times, but I couldn't really get anywhere with it. If I was somehow able to miraculously start and run the first anti-malware program on there, it would crash the computer at the end of the scan and I'd have to restart everything and try again.

The specs are:

Running Windows XP 2 Professional, with Service Pack 2
Manufactured by VARtek Value Added Technology
Intel Pentium III
Mobile CPU 1066 MHz, 535 MHz
256 MB RAM

Most of the above is may not have anything to do with malware.

Hello! I am afraid that my computer is taking its sweet time doing seemingly everything. It is a Dell 530, running Vista Home Premium (whatever that means), and is just all around running poorly as compared to what it used to. I have done the 5 steps asked of me before posting and it still is running poorly. Slow download speeds, unnecessary restarts (which are inconsistent-I know this doesn't help being inconsistent, but it's true). About a month ago, I had Dell support take a remote look for me and at that time the rep had disabled almost all start up programs in msconfig screen. I am not sure if this matters?? My reasoning for using the Dell support was because some websites (such as jsonline.com, and ebay.com) wouldn't load the pictures and instead would have red x-ed image where real image was supposed to be. If there is anything I am able to do, I appreciate your help in doing so!

Hey guys, I just got a new Sony VAIO NS Series yesterday and I think it is satisfactory so far EXCEPT for the fact that the web pages load so slowly. For example, the pages on this website requires that I press refresh or press "enter" on the web address bar a few times for the page to load. How can this be? This computer is new! Could it just be the internet coincidentially being slow? Is it the computer's problem and should I be concerned? Thanks!

My computer can be found here along with the specs: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9370165&type=product&id=1218093001336

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Hello,

I use windows XP, running through my school's network. Within the past few days, i've noticed my computer to be running a LOT slower then it usually is. I also sometimes get a random window popup, however it never loads, so its just a blank white window that pops up. Also sometimes my internet pages aren't loading at all, or may load once, but stop working after that first time, such as facebook. i can get logged in. but if i try to do anything else it'll freeze and not load anything else, using IE

I have spyware blaster and SB SND. when i ran SND it found a lot of stuff and supposedly fixed it. I had adaware, but it recently will just show a crash report whenever i reboot my computer or try to start it, so i uninstalled it. I was wondering if my HJT log shows anything that might be causing these problems?

Thanks

Right... So I've got some problems...
-It started just a while ago when I suddenly started getting all of these pop-ups. One of the appeared to be a virus-scanner advising me to buy or download it. I didn't really heed that one.
-Right after that, my own computer started giving me messages saying 'you're computer is infected'. That, and the machine itself started crackling like some sort of coffee machine or something. When I clicked on the message balloon I told you about earlier, I got the same popup.
-A curious thing that has happened also: I just restarted the computer, and it went REAAAALLLY slow.
-Another curious thing: my computer has suddenly decided to get a mind of its own, it appears. At random moments, it opens up random maps (usually my documents).
-I can't do anything on the internet anymore. All websites I choose to visit, just don't appear. It appears as thought they are blocked somehow. The browsers do say they're "done loading the webpage", but all I get is a white screen. And in the case of internet explorer, a message saying the program doesn't respond -_-'. I actually have to get help on my sister's computer XD
-The final, and most troubling thing of all: I just attempted to restart the computer, and I don't get anything done anymore. When I click on my icon in the startup screen, the 'startup sequence' begins, I can see my wallpaper and all, and then it completely stops... N... Read more

We are using Windows XP Professional ver 5.1 SP3 on our laptop. Using IE 6

Recently, we started to get a lot of Pop ups and so my husband changed the settings to block Pop ups. He also decided to shut off the auto update feature as it was taking very long and do it manually once a week.

Since then we started to get a different - constant popup problem from Trend Micro Office scan that says URL Blocked and the URL is always url.adtrgt.com\...... with a very long message everytime we browse anything (it doesn't matter what browser we use)

Other Problems:
1. We are noticing internet browsing has slowed down considerably
2. When I click on any link on my Hotmail web page it keeps showing its Loading which has never happened before. It takes several clicks for the link to finally work. It also keeps giving me a message Windows Live Hotmail has diconnected. Please try again later. This has also never happened before.
3. When I shut off the computer a window pops up showing Ending now RUNDLL32. It seems like it is saving information and trying to shut the program down but when its towards the end of the bar. It says program has stopped responding. So I have been clicking the END NOW button and then it shuts off OK.
4. Today when I switched on the computer, it gave me a Windows message saying error opening IE. I forgot to note it down. But some error wherein I had a choice to SEND report etc.

I think the situation is turning from bad to worse. We have scanned the compute... Read more

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

My computer has been slightly slower than usual...and when checking the McAfee site it stated that the 6 trojans found were that of a low threat....I'm just double checking that it didn't miss anything because my computer's been kinda slower on loading internet pages since the scan. I am aware Mcafee is not the best tool for scanning but my folks paid for my computer and the program came with it. I have to keep it til it expires. Also any advice for site advisor's that tell you which sites have viruses? Mcafee's is useless.

Anyone help with a pc problem I have? It takes forever to load a page from the internet, sometimes as long as 2 or 3 minutes during which time the mouse/cursor is inoperative. The problem has got slowly worse over the last couple of weeks. On non internet operation everything is fine and fast. I've checked modem speeds, which are 0.51mb download and 0.23mb upload. I have Vista and MS Internet Browser. Any clues folks? Thanks for any help, Sarumboy.

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

Erm hi. Last night my PC was absolutely fine, and today it seems to be completely broken.

I turned the computer on today and received a "malware detected" message from Avast antivirus. I tried to move to chest/delete and the message kept popping up. I looked up NewDot malware on the internet (which is what Avast was detecting) and it said that NewDot prevents access to the internet, which seemed about right as i was having to use my laptop to access the internet as the time, because the other computer wasn't working properly. It said that i could get rid of it easily my going to Add/remove programs and uninstalling it, which i did.

After this i restarted the computer and the loading time was exceptionally slow, i thought it had frozen, but it was just taking 5-10minutes to load. When it finally did load i tried to access the internet through a number of different browsers, but none of them would load. I tried to open some other applications too, and they wouldn't load either. I went to msconfig and disabled the majority of my startup items, and then restarted the computer. Once again the loading time was slow, and no applications would start. I then tried to do a defrag, but the program didn't work. Then i tried system restore, and the application didn't load, i came back to the computer 5-10minutes later and it had loaded, but it came up with an error that said something along the lines of "system restore is unable to protect your computer, please restar... Answer:Slow boot, slow application loading, slow shutdown

I don't know if there's an edit option on this site, but i couldnt find it.

Anyway, i've found a website dedicated to this newdot "foistware" as it is known: http://www.cexx.org/newnet.htm

It says that deleting the .dll will result in a broken internet connection. IT also mentions that sometimes uninstalling it will still leave errors in winsock.
This seems to be what has happened to me, so i'm going to try the LSP fix utility available for download on that site. The problem is that this laptop has no floppy disk drive, and i don't have a UBS storage device available.

I was just wondering, if and when i do repair the LSP problems, could that be what is causing my system to run slowly? I hope so.

Thanks again.

Okay, here I am again. I've already posted regarding this problem, but I thought I had it fixed when I restored my computer to factory settings. No such luck, the problem has returned. This time I will be more specific about what is going on. I can not access any microsoft web pages, I can not update, I can't access my hotmail account, can't use messenger (kids are going crazy without it). I have had norton installed and ran a scan, no problems detected. Now i uninstalled it. Please let me know what to do now. I personally think it has something to do with Messenger not being compatible with Vista, so for now I've uninstalled Messenger also. What are some good free virus and spyware programs that I can run? Here is my current Hijack log.

Hi The computer  that is slow is a desk top tower. In a home.  it is a E machine.
it has windows 7  professional  with service pack 1
DO KNOW :  I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz  processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.
All virus scan results  find no infections.
Windows updates is activated  and  all latest updates have been installed.... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 computer suddenly slow to get on internet, slow to browse websites etc

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Ok, this just happened recently and I don't know what is causing it. I'll try to give u a brief overview of the situtation I'm in. XP used to be on my D driver (74gigs), it got screwed up (BSOD) at the time, I didn't know as much computers, so I installed XP to my C driver (4 gigs). This has worked pretty fine up until when SP2 was released. I can't install SP2 because XP takes up about 4 gigs by itself. Without SP2 I just have been running some extra firewalls so compensate.

Well about 4 days ago, I noticed whenever I open up my computer it takes like 7 or 8 seconds before the hard drivers appear. Then I went into network connections to look at my internet icon (to check the settings). I opened it up and nothing was there. The only thing there was on the far left it was asking me if I wanted to setup a network ( my internet is working on all the computers). I have ran 2 different spyware scans and found nothing, ran mcaffee scans and nothing. I can't restore my computer because all the restores got deleted when I was trying to free space on my drives.

Where do I go, usually I can solve tech problems but I mean this is beyond weird? What do I do first, if you need more information just ask because I really need some advice.

I was using IE 8 on my laptop. The problem is it is slow loading and I hit the X to close it takes a few minutes to close. I installed IE 9 and have the same issue. I tried using Firefox and Google chrome and they work fine. I just prefer IE so please do not suggest other browsers because it does not fix the problem. I want the ie problem fixed.ThanksJust because the OP does not come back in 3 or 4 days to reply, does not mean he will not come back and reply.

Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!

Hey, basically computer's been a bit slow and tried clearing some stuff and done other things, but still no luck, to make things worse internet's been a lot slow and when using either firefox and internet explorer. For example when going on youtube some videos would freeze in the middle and i would have to reload the page, and sometimes takes ages to load a page.

So here's my DDS log and hopefully the problem can be diagnosed, thank you.

Hey I recently bought a new computer that is much better than my old one in stats but its not acting like it.

Windows XP
Service Pack 3
Intel Dual Core E5200
2.50GHz
2GB RAM

Now it was running ok to begin with but then the internet started having problems. It kept dropping out or fluctuating in speed and nothing seemed to fix it. It didnt happen on my old system it sat nicely at 54MB/s all the time.

Then the rest of the computer started going slow to start up so i got rid of some start up programs and desktop items which didnt seem to do much. And now ive noticed that when songs are playing in itunes they skip seconds every now and then.

Also when i click for programs to come up after i wait till everything is started up properly i have to wait a minute or two before they open. And burning DVDs has doubled in how long it takes.

Any ideas of what could be wrong, ive scanned for viruses using Avira and spyware using SUPERantispyware, ive cleaned registry using Registry easy and removed all unnecesary crap using CCleaner.

It got suggested that my computer was going slow because of AVG8 so i got rid of it and with got Avira but it slowed up again.

Hello, my computer has been extremely slow on boot and my desktop has been hijacked with a message about changing it to a website. I also have a program called "error fix" showing up on my desktop and I have no idea where it came from. I've run Malware Bytes twice on the computer with numerous problems found. After running it the second time, I got a message saying I needed to run CHKDSK which I ran. Also, my internet is running very slowly and I just got a message that says "A program on your computer has corrupted your default setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this sietting to your original search provider, Live.Search (search.live.com). Internet will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providors."

Here is my Hijackthis Log, if you need the MBAM logs, please let me know and I will post those as well.

Recently I've started getting annoying popups every now and then. The content seems to be random, but often involves something involving the IP 82.98.231.93/? and Google saying the link appears broken. Along with this, a few sites are working very slowly or not working at all.

I ran a Trend Micro OfficeScan and it only found some JOKE_RENOS thing which it sometimes pops up and says "Succesful, no action required". That was already there before the current problem (although I wouldn't mind getting rid of it).

Thanks

I'll post the hijackthis log in a reply

Basically the problem is in the title, when i run internet explorer it loads pages slower than usual, i guess this is due to "Avast! antivirus" running in the background stopping "some" of the popups and internet page redirecting. but still Avast! isnt able to stop all of the popups and i get loads of random ones, such as "trebor mints" and "best antivirus protection" and "home and office internet security software" and stuff like that, i have run a thorough scan of the computer using avast and removed alot of problems, i also used spybot search and destroy to also remove a load and then after that I ran Wincleaner, to clean other crap off of the computer. Previous problems that i had before this included the computer freezing and an annoying antivirus spyware coming up saying the computer was infected and to buy their software etc... this problem was solved using the antivirus, spybot s&d and wincleaner. but it wasnt until i ran internet explorer i still realised i had the popups. please some one help me or direct or guide me into fixing this problem.
Cheers, Nayth.

Answer:HJT, and slow internet and popups

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Extract (unzip) the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

Warning: Do not run Option #2 until you are instructed to do so. Running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Have had some issues with slow internet and popups lately. I've had LimeWire on my computer for a bit and I also got affected by the virus (?) that spread through MSN a couple of days ago. Anyways, here's my HJT log, hope someone can help out!

Some kind of trojan invaded my computer I believe. I ran Symantec and it deleted a bunch of entries but the auto-protect kept popping up to block something labeled Downloader and file "kernel32.exe" I was eventually able to delete it in safe mode after turning off the system restore. But then the auto-protect kept blocking Adware.Webbuying with file name qmlqrib.dll (both of these were in system32 folder according to the log), but there was no file by that name anywhere. I ran Ad-Aware which removed two entries with a level 10 threat assessment named BookedSpace and Win32.TrojanClicker, however the Adware.Webbuying continued to be blocked by Symantec. I then ran Spybot which found and deleted numerous entries and I no longer get auto-protect for Adware.Webbuying. However, I continue to get pop-ups, internet is slower, computer is slower, and it seems to prevent downloads after a certain point in time (haven't made it past 20% of a file from various different sites ranging from 4-20 MB). Who knows what else it is doing; hopefully not downloading my personal data. Please lend me a hand if you can. Thanks. I have included my HijackThis log:

Hello I have an internet problem

I am using an adapter for my desktop to connect to my 2wire router wirelessly. Internet was great for a few months but recently it just became slow. Torrent downloads were really fast but browsing and everything else were very slow. Other computers at home seemed to be working fine so I just re-installed windows 7 again. It was fast again for a couple of days but it became slow again. I tested the wireless adapter to my other laptop and worked perfectly fine however it didn't on my desktop. So I thought it was just a virus and reinstalled windows 7 today again. Now internet is still slow even accessing the wireless router control page is slow. Right now i am clueless on what to do know and It would be awesome if someone helped me.

Answer:Slow internet loading?

Have you verified that your Internet connection is set up properly in Windows 7? If a Red X there is a problem.

Did you check device manager to make sure there are no yellow question
marks flagged?

Did you check your router and modem to see if all lights are lit properly?
A defective modem will not show a light on the cable light.

Have you installed any recent software that may be causing the problem?

If this problem started immediately when you bought the computer then the problem is updating your new computer with the router software, or network connection problem, or bad modem. (assuming the problem was immediate upon using your new computer.

Internet is very slow to load. Also, the toolbar items that load up open the bottom of the page are not there anymore--only the McAffee is showing up. Did not change any settings.
I have run Spy bot and Adaware. Fixed whatever has popped up, but it is still a bit slow. Is there something missed showing up in my log? Any other recommendations?

Hi raincarlove and welcome to BleepingComputers Forums. My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.A. I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player?s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager -- the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Hello and welcome to TSF.

Disable realtime scanners, especially AVG Anti Spyware.

Please download ComboFix

Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop.

Close all browsers. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply and a fresh HijackThis log please.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Recently, I've been getting random popups. Also, my computer started running considerably slower, taking up to 5 minutes to open up an internet browser. My antivirus software has been picking up funny things every two minutes and when I get rid of the threat it gets found again. ><

I have no clue what's wrong or why this is happening, since I just reformatted my computer.

Here is my HJT log.

Just started getting constant popups including a "Microsoft Explorer" popup that tells me my system is slow and I should download some antispyware program. I have also been getting a "buffer overrun detected" error. I have updated Windows and installed spyware blaster but wasn't able to run a successful panda scan (it only checked about 40% in one hour, I left, and when I came back I didn't even have a windows explorer window up).

The following is the Deckard log.

Answer:popups and slow computer

Ok.We need to download ComboFix.exe. This will give me a better view to the files that are running and also the ones that are hidden on your computer. It may also remove some, but not all, of the infected files if found.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time. Disregard Windows Recovery Console if you have SP3 for Home,XP or are running W2k and Vista.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:[list=1][*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Please copy and paste the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new 'HijackThis' log so that we can continue to do any further cleaning that your system may require.

Caution: Never run and remove files with Combofix unless supervised by a qualified security analyst who is experienced in the use of Combofix. Mal use ca... Read more

also, theres been several popups lately, most of them start with an address that looks something like: 65.107.204.1
i just made up that number, because it changes everytime, but it always starts with either a 64 or a 65

anyways, i did a hijackthis scan, and i was wondering if you guys can help me out
so here it is

Answer:Slow computer and popups

i dont see 2 much wrong glancing over your hijackthis file.. if your computer is running slow then it could be a couple of things..i take it SUPERAntiSpyware is not helping..are u using the full scan option.

next are the popups coming from firefox or explorer: if there firefox pop ups try using adblock from firefox: Tools > Add-ons > get extensions > Add block Plus > download

if your still getting popups then try an antivirus program or a different spyware program.A different program might find spyware that superANTIspyware cant. i have spyhunter v2.9 which is really good. u can download the trial version for free to see what infections u got.

and finally your pc might be running slow because your running too many programs from startup. follow these steps: Start > Run > "msconfig" > Startup > only uncheck those u are certain of and Apply.

hope this helps

Hi, I came here a few months ago and remembered the great help I got here.

Today I was browsing a site I've been to numerous times before and know it's a trust-worthy site. Anyway, I was going along as any other internet surfer would and I was suddenly attacked by some sort of Malware that automatically downloaded and installed itself, and I couldn't stop it in any way. Accompanying it were many Internet Explorer popups(Not my main browser).

I couldn't do anything to stop the program from downloading or installing, and it began a "virus scan" automatically. I stopped it, deleted it, and went back to the internet. Popups continued, and then the whole process started again. I rebooted(It hasn't tried to download since), and downloaded a 3-month trial of Panda Internet Security. I also did a scan with SpyBot Search & Destroy and came up with some problems, and deleted them.

After Panda Internet Security(PIS) finished scanning it asked for a reboot, I complied, and it did another quick scan at startup. PIS then notified me of a spyware/malware threat in my system32 folder, and blocked it. After that an error popped up (literally) every 5 seconds saying C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhi.dll(I can't quite remember the filename, I should have written it down) is unaccessible: Access is not allowed.

Then it seemed that PIS crashed, and stopped blocking the .dll file in the process, stopping the incoming spam of errors. Now, in it's current state, my computer seems t... Read more

Hello all,

Another desktop computer is extremely slow (takes a significant amount of time to just load windows explorer). There have been a couple of popups, but a Spybot scan didn't find anything and Avira is running as an active scan, which also didn't find anything. Part of the problem is that there's no firewall (which I will install after the system is clean).

Anyways, I made a HJT log; hopefully someone super nice could help me find out what's wrong with the computer! Also, are there any recommendations for free, CPU-light firewalls? Thanks a bunch!

Answer:Keep Getting Popups, Computer Is Very Slow

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer.Take a look at the following page to make sure that malware is to blame for the problems you are experiencing:Slow Computer/Browser? Check Here First; It May Not Be MalwareIf this does not solve the problem for you, please follow our Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting a HijackThis Log; running all of the scans before posting your HijackThis log. Do not post your log here, but instead use our HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum. After posting a log you should NOT make further changes to your computer except those that are advised by a member of the HijackThis Team; doing so can cause system changes that may not be visible in your log. Please be patient whilst waiting for a response, our HJT Team is currently very busy, and as we try to deal with logs on a "first come first served" basis, you may have to wait a short while.

Answer:wow.. slow computer with popups **HELP**

Does anyone see any problems?============Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to b... Hi! I went to a site, and now I think I'm infected with something real bad. I can't access the internet through my normal settings, I had to go into safe mode. My computer is so slow in normal mode that internet pages won't load. I also get tons of popups. I ran McAfee Security, SpyEraser, SpySweeper and went onto Trend Micro's site to try to clear it up myself, but all of those programs detected nothing wrong. I'm right now running Kaspersky Scanner and need to go back into normal mode to get my HijackThis scan and Dss scan.

I will post Hijack This, Dss and Kaspersky's log below in a few moments. Thanks for your help!

Answer:Please help me with my computer--very slow w/popups

Here are the Kaspersky Deckard's System Scanner and Hijack this logs, both done in SafeMode (not sure if that makes a difference.

OK, here is the Kaspersky Scan:

Hi,

In the past couple of months my Dell Desktop Computer has become REALLY slow. I tried to delete all the files I don't need, and all the programs I don't use, to try and make it work faster. But it hasn't really made much difference. The computer is still really slow and it lags a lot- when clicking on a program it only opens about 30 seconds later. In Internet Explorer, popups keep appearing, and then when I try to close them down, the computer freezes and "Ends the Program immediately". I have now downloaded Firefox, and it's giving me less problems, although it's still a bit slow.

I would really appreciate help! Please tell me whether you need any more details. I have posted the HiJackThis log below:
Thanks,
Leon

hey, i'm new to these forums but i really need help with my computer
i think it started with me downloading a keygen on April 16, which when at the time of me posting is 3 days ago.
i used it, deleted it and logged off. later in the day, i noticed that my computer was going really slow.

when i pressed ctrl alt del, in the processes tab it would keep on showing rundll32.exe even when i ended it. also in the performance tab my cpu usage would always be changing from between 1 to 65%.

this is making a lot of my programs run very slowly and also i seem to be getting the occasional popup from partypoker or imvu, which would never happen before i downloaded the keygen

when i was in a desperate search for a solution to the problem i download spybot and adaware and used them to delete things that im guessing were slowing down my computer, but one thing that would always come back even when i deleted it was something called virtumonde.

this is really bothering me and i'm thinking about doing system restore but i have a lot of files that i would like to keep.

i would also like to make note that the norton antivirus protection that i have on my computer has been expired since last year sometime which i think might have made a difference in stopping whatever malware or spyware or anything else that has infected my computer.

anyway, I know the people on this website probably have their own lives to worry about and are probably busy, but i hope that someone could at least t... Read more
