Preferred Solution: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).

Hello - I wrote an application in VB6 suppose 'APP_X'. which i am running every night using a service called 'WinService_Y' running as admin user. Now in APP_X, I am using net.exe to sync time
with server.

When the WinService_Y triggers the APP_X, it gives me the error saying:

Okay, title of the dialog box is Net.exe so i know this occured when APP_X is trying to execute Net.exe.

P.S: This does not occur if i directly run the APP_X without using the WinService_Y

APP_X is written in VB6 and WinService_Y is in C# .net framework 2.0

APP_X is just not time sync there are tons of other things

Sync time Code APP_X(sample):

Every time I turn on my computer this come up: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on Ok to terminate the application. I've tried to click on OK but nothing seems to happen. What should I do?

Answer:The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).

Boot into Safe Mode and run an app such as MalwareBytes or SpyBot Search & Destroy.

The error you are seeing may also be giving you a file name or program name, from Safe Mode you can open regedit and remove any references to that file/program.

Answer:"the application failed to initialize properly (0XC0000142) - What should i do?

Uninstall the app from Add/Remove Programs. What's the app? Or is it every app? You may not want to reinstall an offending app.

You could click 'Start' - 'run', and type msconfig, press enter. Then choose 'System Restore' and go back to before the problem started.

Or...

On another web forum, there are these instructions: "You have a bad system DLL.

Put your XP disc in your CD drive and exit from the setup program when it appears.

Click: Start>Run.
Type cmd in the box and press OK.
At the DOS prompt, type sfc /scannow (and press return).
Windows is not real smart about this. You may be prompted to insert your disc several times. Just keep pressing retry. This process can take some time, so be patient. When it has finished reboot your machine.

If you installed a program that over-wrote this system file, it will not function correctly after this procedure and will need to be re-installed. "

As soon as you're done, install SP3. Then let it run overnight to get all the updates, with your anti-virus and anti-malware programs on guard.

Hi there,

Thanks for maintaining this site, I just found it and really appreciate the volunteer work.

My problem is that IEXPLORE.EXE gets an error when I try to launch it (0xc0000142), so I can't use Internet Explorer. This wouldn't be a problem, and I've been living with it a long time, except that I'm concerned it's preventing Windows Update from working. Windows Update gets an "unknown error" (Code 80244019) while trying to search for new updates. Either way, I figured it was time to try to fix IE. I've had a spate of virus infections lately, so my system is pretty worked over, though it appears to be clean now.

I looked for similar problems before posting, and there were a couple threads out there, but the admins tailored their responses to the specific 'hijackthis' reports of the posters and warned others not to follow the same advice they gave, so I thought I should post a fresh inquiry. Still, if there's another thread you think would help me fix the problem, I would be happy to get the link.

Thanks again, and here's my hijackthis log.

About a few weeks ago my computer shut down because my sister accidentaly took the plug out. After I turned the computer back on it said i need to repair it. I used the startup repair and it didn't work, turning on to a black log in screen. After that I restarted it again, went to restore and restored it. It did the same exact thing when i turned it on but I actually could log in (still a black screen but I pressed enter and put in password, still black, but it signed me in). After that everytime I would try to open any programs (iTuned, Google Chrome,Adobe, etc) an error message comes up for .exe files. The ArcCon. ac error stays on the screen because if I click OK it always comes back up. The only program that works is Internet Explorere. Also, I cannot download anything. I can go to Control Panel, but when I click on Programs, then Programs and Features it won't open. When I go to System properties or Windows Updates a page loads up saying "The page failed to load". I've scaned my computer and no viruses show up. HELP ME, I really don't know what else to do.

Answer:The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate

Hello, go to start, all programs, accessories, right click command prompt and have it open as Admin user, then type this without quotes and notice spacing " sfc /scannow " then press enter. After it fixes what it can, hopefully this will actually run, it leaves a file of results on your hard drive which can be seen by typing this into the start , search window : Type sfcdetails.txt in Search programs and files and press Enter. You can open that in notepad and see what did not get repaired. Usually, because a good copy of the file was not found, which would mean a repair of the registry is required. Lets hope it can repair any software issues.
On the other hand , if you have hardware issues, that will take some trouble shooting. Upon restart , if you still have issues, check in Device maanger, which you would find in control panel , if it will open up for you , or another way is to type in the search pane off of the start button : device manager and open it that way, look for any yellow or red caution symbols , if you see any , right click and select update driver.

Post back results please.

Sorry to repost this, but I didn't get any replies, and I have new information about it.Ok, I have an Alienware Laptop(stats below) and I think it has an over heating problem. Because everytime I get on it to either play WOW, or The Sims 2, or anything else besides solitare or MS paint, it will run for a bit, then shut down. I have the charger in, it works, the battery is normally at 100%. Recently I've purchased a cooling pad to place under it. Another thing is, is that when it crashes, and I try to turn it on, it will almost fully boot to the logon screen, but instead it will flash a quick error message that says: "the application failed to initialize properly (0Xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application." And then it will turn off, and reboot itself. It will continuously loop, trying to boot and reboot until I unplug the charger. I've also noticed that it will stay on a lot longer with the charger disconnected than when it's plugged in. I'm pretty sure it's not the charger itself, but purhaps the port, because it did this with my old charger too. If anyone has any ideas, I would really much appreciate it. I can't afford to send it to alienware, and I'm sure it's the cause of my harddrive frying earlier. And even after a new harddrive and all it is still doing this. STOP: c oooo 145 {application error. The application failed to initialize properly (0x 0000005). Click OK to terminate application. The above message is what I receive, when I run "error check". It was advised from the Microsoft website that I ran ERROR CHECK, along with "disk cleanup" & "defrag" analysis, to see if the machine needs to be defragged.I went along with the advised procedures by Microsoft, because it was said that the computer would run faster. I've been doing the ones that worked, defrag analysis, disk clean up & CC Cleaner. Along with those maintenance tasks, I update all the definitions on the malware software. With the aforementioned error message problem with the lap top, I also have a problem with Adobe Reader (listed in another topic), that I can't uninstall it, without getting a 'Error 1402' message. Then the one last problem is the cursor jumping around at random times, when I am typing to either the forum or in a Word document. I mention these other issues because I am not sure they're not related. This is a DELL Inspiron 1520, Centrino (2007). I have another laptop, a 5150 Inspiron, with a P4 chip, and it absolutely has no issues. It hasn't even caught a virus. I don't use it as much now, but in the past I took it everywhere. What steps are you taking to run the check?

That error seems to indicate a hard drive problem, which is why it was suggested to run chkdsk /r.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system. The command should execute, before booting into XP.

Okay, please forgive me as I have no idea where to post the issues that I am experiencing. Yes, I did check out previous posts that were similar in nature.

I was on my computer this morning. I shut down the computer and then this evening when I turn the computer on I get the following message:

Application Error The application failed to initialize properly. (0xc00000006). Click ok to terminate the application

I click okay I get a blank desktop - so I cannot run system restore. I have tried starting the computer in safe mode but I get the same message. I do not have any discs to re-install anything because when I bought my laptop I was told that all that stuff is built in. I have a compaq presario, windows xp. I am currently using my husbands laptop to try and figure out what to do. Can someone please help me?

Thank you,

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Colin

Ok whoever can fix my comp is a total geek

Well yesterday i was normally doing stuff on my computer and accidentally uninstalled something i didn't think i needed (and I'm not sure if its causing the problem either) so it said to uninstall the program you had to restart your comp, which of i did of course. Then a error popped up saying explorer.exe the application failed to initialize properly error Oxc0000005 . I know explorer.exe is a process that shows everything like your icons and start menu and wallpaper etc. so i couldn't see any icons and had to use task manager to open FF and now I'm here typing this post.
So can any of you had this problem or can help? I would appreciate it so much

PS: the think i uninstalled was IE 8 from add/remove programs and Internet explorer from add/remove windows components

Hi All,

I recently purchased a new laptop and I have had this error occur almost since the start.

Basically, when I switch on my laptop, both bttray.exe and GrooveMonitor display the exact same error(bar the application name in the title) - I have also tried to install AVG Free which comes up with the same error when trying to start.

The error is:

BTTray.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150004). Click OK to terminate the application.

I am running Microsoft? Windows Vista? Ultimate 6.0.6001.1.1252.44.1033.18.3066.1940

I haven't tried anything to correct this as I wouldn't know where to start.
Any help anyone can provide would be highly appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

Joe

Okay, so I've been working on my computer since yesterday morning, and actually ended up fixing a problem. However, this is the new problem I'm facing.

I turn on my computer. Nothing loads except the wallpaper (no taskbar, start menu, etc.) The error message comes up "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002)", in reference to explorer.exe.

I click ok and cannot do anything. If I press ctrl + alt + delete the windows security pops up and I can click task manager, but nothing happens. I've tried running in safe mode and I get pretty much the same thing. I've run in safe mode with command prompt and tried following advice from previous posts all throughout Google, but nothing will come up.

I've also tried messing around in the Recovery Console, but everything I try doesn't seem to work. Based on Google results it seems a lot of people have had a similar problem to mine, but mine seems to be different in the fact that I cannot do anything.

Normally I would of just given up and reformatted my computer, but there are important things I'd like to get at on the computer that I don't want to lose.

It's a vaio laptop, fyi. Windows XP.

Easy thing to try first. Remove all power from the computer: remove power lead and battery, and hold 'on' button down for 30 seconds. Reconnect and try booting.

I have a brand new Dell, and after about a week of smooth sailing, following power up now I get the following msg, "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application." This happens with EVERY app on the PC, even Control Panel and System Tools icons. Doesn't matter if I click on the desktop icon, go to Programs, or go into Windows Explorer to the program itself. Funny thing is, I can use the Quicklaunch icons to run Norton and Spy Sweeper and get to the internet. I have Zone Alarm Pro running, and ran Norton, Spy Sweeper, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad Aware last week like I do every Saturday. Clean as a whistle. Today I ran Norton (again), Spy Sweeper (again), online Micro Trend and a demo of Trojan Hunter and found nothing. One other thing: I used Aloha Bob to migrate Office 2000 and a few other files and apps to my new PC and did not encounter any problems for about a week. I migrated the same apps to my wife's new Dell and her PC is just fine.Do I need to reinstall XP and just start over? Thanks,SaltyLogfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 6:48:43 PM, on 2/18/2005Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WIND... For some reason I am getting this error code (Explorer.exe The Application Failed to Initialize properly (0xc0000022). Click Ok to Terminate the Application) whenever I try to log into my computer. I put in my password and then this message comes up and nothing happens it wont go to my desktop or anything. I then restarted and logged into my machine through safe mode and everything works. I tried to run a windows update to see if I was missing an update or something but in Safe Mode it will not let me run Windows updates. I also went to add and remove programs and tried to uninstall the most recent application I installed to see if that was the problem but once again I can not uninstall anything in safe. If someone could help me out with this problem I would really appreciate it thanks.

Sorry guys I'm new here and I don't know much about computers so I decided to post this question here in General Chat.Well this is the problem:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. (it pops up twice)I've researched this topic on Google and I have noticed a lot of other people have had the same problem but I think this is a special case.See, whenever I turn on my laptop on everything goes well and even gives me the option of selecting F2 to to configure things on the computer. But when I get to the main page where I'm supposed to log in this message pops up:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. So then I try to click Ctrl, Alt, and Del to open up the task menu but nothing happens. I noticed the keys are not unresponsive because when I click Caps Lock the little light flashes on.So please can somebody help me out with this huge problem, or is my laptop over and done with?EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forumWe'll just assume XP-MG

I have seen several postings on this topic, but it seems that every one is a little different, so I am posting my dilemma. I am sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.
As of about 10 days ago, several programs will not open. Instead, I get the error window that states "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." As far as I can tell, this error message affects these programs: Ultraplayer, Windows Media Player, Sound Recorder, Logitech Setpoint, Quicktime Player, Real One Message Center, and Total Recorder.

My computer is a desktop, HP Pavilion a1020n. Windows XP Home Ed., SP 3. Windows updates are current. Run Avast antivirus software and usually have Windows Firewall turned on.

Here's what I've tried:
Tried to uninstall and reinstall several programs. Uninstall usually won't happen. Have tried new installs over the old, but it doesn't "take."
10 days ago - went back to a restore point. Did no good.
Have run Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy several times, including today (May 2). Today Ad-Aware found and removed a few items from the families of Cookies, Win32 Trojan Spy, and Win32 Tr\.\per Delf. Spybot found nothing today.
Have run CCleaner to clean up registry.
Ran Hijack This and saved the log. I can post it if it is needed.

I've considered reformatting the hard drive, but really don't want to resort to that.

Computer is on for 24 hrs. +- and the keyboard & mouse become unresponsive. (before that 24 hrs. the machine runs great) If I'm able to open a program a typical message error is: "Notepad.exe - Application error - The application failed to initialize properly (0x000012d) Click OK to terminate the application" (my quotes). I am forced to restart the computer.
I was sent to this forum from the anti malware forum who (I think) originally did find some instances of malware, however since the varmint has been removed the symtom has returned and they sent me here. {Marti} They suggested I do a reinstall- it dosen't appear to be too difficult with the Dell reinstall disc.

Answer:Error: Application failed to initialize properly

Hi .

Well...have you read the Dell documentation for your system...which indicates how to install, the effects, etc.?

System model?

I don't believe that you will be able to do a repair install with a CD reflecting SP1...since your system reflects SP3. But Dell systems don't necessarily play by the rules of owners with MS Genuine XP CDs...which is why you need to consult your system documentation to see what your options are.

If you tell us the model, I will review the system documentation and state what I see as your options.

My 77 year old mother in law dropped off her old Compaq desk top computer and asked for help with a failure to boot up problem so I am trying to help with my limited knowledge.

Computer is an older Compaq Deskpro EN, Pent III 863 MHz, 384 mb RAM, with Win XP Pro version 2002 SP 2. She said the grandkids got on the computer during Christmas Holidays, surfed the net, and suddenly computer would not work or boot up. At start up the computer goes to the desk top screen but with no icons, then this application error code message pops up:

"userinit.exe application error, the application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d). Click OK to terminate".

I can boot it up in safe mode as administrator or user but don't know where to go from there to determine the problem or fix. Any help would be appreciated.

I have workstations with the oracle client installed (some 9i, some 10g) accessing oracle 9i databases.

When starting a program to use them via sqlplus the following error pops up:

Code:
SQLLDE.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click ok to terminate the application.
I don't quite understand, what could cause the application to crash in this way sometimes and other times it works fine. Is there a good way of debugging this? Perhaps using some sysinternals tools or something?

Has anybody seen this kind of behaviour in applications before? What did you do to solve it?

so everytime to try to use media player classic i get this error

i am fairly certain it is a permission issue, and i believe i know what caused it. while following the smitfraud fix i did step 3 (when i probably shouldn't have) which Restores Trusted and Restricted Zones.

i have tried to look up how to fix this myself, but they seem to pertain to vista and/or talk about things i don't know how to do, or i can't find. My account is also the admin account. could anyone help me solve this issue?

4) When is the error occuring? When logging into Windows? When you open a specific application?

Hi there, I am new to the forum and really need help for my parents.

Their computer is playing up at the moment. First of all it has been crashing, by this i mean freezing completely.

I have came to look at their computer to see if i could help. However I can't, this is way beyond me.

The above error message is happening when trying to load Windows Defender. The main message in blue says "MSASCui.exe - Application Error" and below it says "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000009c). Click on OK to terminate the application."

Obviously this is not allowing Windows Defender to load, however the computer itself is now playing up by crashing now and then. I am thinking registry possibly however after scanning and repairing what errors were there this still did not fix the problem. Please can anyone help?

Answer:Services.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005).

Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

Hi. I am having issues with my computer when I try to play some programs on it, such as Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 20 Platinum, as well as many of my son's computer games, such as Disney games and Reader Rabbit. They all worked fine before, but suddenly I get the message, "the application failed to initialize properly (oxc0000005)" and I cannot get into these programs.

I also cannot copy anything onto a disk because the DVD device does not seem to be responding.

We use the Mavis Beacon program for homeschooling and my boys have progressed in it pretty far, so I do not want to uninstall/reinstall since we will lose all their work.

Please help.

By the way, I did run Malware Bytes yesterday and it took out 6 infected files, but the problem still exists.

Thanks in advance.

If these games are played from a disk, and your dvd rom is giving you trouble, there you go. See if the rom is listed in your device manager without any flags.

Anyone got any ideaS on how I can solve this problem.

Thanks

Answer:Application failed to initialize properly.

If you press ctrl+alt+del, does this bring up the Task Manager?

If so, click File, New task (Run), and type explorer and press enter.

Then try a System Restore.

I need some help please. When I power up my daughters HP Pavilion ze 2000 windows appears to load, but the blue HP screen freezes and a window pops up stating:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application". I've pulled the battery for a good hour to see if it would reset itself, unfortunately the same thing happens each time I power down the computer. I've yet to try to get the computer into safe mode.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Mike

One day, I was just listening to music and I decided to open up a game called Magic Workstation. I have been playing it for over a year now. That was the first time I got the message "The Application Failed to initialize." It also had the code "0xc0000005."

Then I restarted my computer and at startup, MSN Messenger had the same problem. When I ran DDS, there was also this problem, although it managed to still work. There is the same problem with Microsoft Word as well.

Other symptoms include a slower internet explorer.

I have ran a system restore to no luck.

Any help?

Hello,

I have tried to start my computer which runs Windows Vista and I get this message when I try to open Browsers or other programmes.

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000002)
Can anyone please tell me the easiest way to solve this. This is the first time it has happened and nothing has changed despite me rebooting the computer several times.

Thanks

Answer:APPLICATION FAILED TO INITIALIZE PROPERLY

You can do a System Restore to a time before this happened.
If that fails, Restart the computer and press F8 until you get to the Advanced Boot menu (Safe Mode etc) Here press Repair Your Computer.
If that fails, once the computer boots, go to Start/Search and type CMD Right click the CMD icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Command Prompt type SFC /Scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing files.

*Sigh*, I love this section but hate to be back.

A few days ago AVG was picking up some recurring spyware and trojans, so I let it do a full system scan then reboot. The viruses it was picking up are gone, however there is still some sort of malware problem. On almost anything I open, a dialog box with the title "Rundll.exe" pops up and displays the message "The application failed to initialize properly." then some error code (0xc0000005)? Several programs stop responding for a while, and svchost.exe is using alot of memory and CPU. I see a few weird things in my HJT log and I'm hoping someone could help me out

Ah, and if it's any help, I remember the name "Huer" popping up on the scanner.
And, It seems that when I open IE, I get viruses located in my temporary internet folder

Hello murf and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. We are currently not using TrendMicro's version of HijackThis on the forums because it is still in beta. This means that it has not been released as a stable version at this time and could contain issues that have not been resolved yet. The most current stable release is version 1.99.1 and can be found here.In regards to the error message, that particular error is caused by insufficient access rights to the files required for the applications. This means that either the users and/or groups that the users belong to cannot get to the files they need to run the application. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the... Read more

Hi - I have an extremely big issue I'm facing with some applications. For a few of my applications (assuming they are all dot net) they come up with this error message "the application failed to initialize properly", twice. One of the programs are my project exe (From Visual Basic 2008) and a modelling program called milkshape 3d. They both come up with these errors (and a few more applications come up with this error as well). I ran an antivirus and it picked up nothing. This started to happen when I opened an application and apparently tweaked the registry. I tried fiddling with Data execution prevention and starting it in safe mode. Again, the errors arose.

Anyways, here are the event logs if required:

A user I've been working with has been recieving a blue screen with the error message "lsass.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click OK to terminate the application" whenever she boots up her computer. I know that lsass.exe verifies the validity of user logons to the computer. From what I've been able to find online, this is either a side effect of Sassar or she needs to run a repair install. Does anyone have any experience with this issue who can tell me a bit more than the vague suggestions I found on Google? Thanks.

Answer:Lsass.exe: Application Failed To Initialize Properly

Sounds like an infection case and i doubt the version is legit. If it is a legit version after doing my best to clean the infection I would give it a go with a repair installation.

Hi all,

Few days ago my computer got the Trojan.Vundo. Norton 2003 pro didn't manage to prevent but also to remove the virus. I uninstaleld Norton and I install a trial version of NOD32. Today, I scanned again my hard disc and no threads were found. But still dll files of the Trojan existed. I went to startup and I deactivated the: kdfgj83ke.dll, mlDJwVmJ.dll and nnnlmMcd.dll files that were spoted as files of the virus. When i rebooted by pc, I received the message: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)". It appears 2 times after I login and then I can see only the background. Nothing else. I tried safe mode, safe mode with network, VGA, recover system in previous condition. But nothing worked.

I have XP SP2, 2,99 GHZ, 500MB RAM

Thanks

Answer:The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

Why did you uninstall Norton?

I hope you realize ANY AntiVirus Utility CANNOT protect you against a virus it does not know about yet. That's why you must update your antivirus protection daily.

This is also why you are most vulnerable if you are online all the time. This maximizes the opportunity of getting infected BEFORE an Malware utility can protect you.

From you post, this is what happened to you. The virus infected your system before Norton had it in its protection file, but it did find-remove after the protection update.

Also, are you running an additional Anti-Spyware utility? You should. This is required by my Corporate IT on all desktops. In the division I am IT Tech for, I use Spybot Search & Destroy (donationware), one of several listed by corporate. I have used this at home for years, since my Win98 days, and it's well known and reliable. But note that the limitations that apply to AntiVirus utilities also apply with Anti-Spyware utilities, cannot protect you against spyware that arrives before they know about it.

To maximize your protection, do NOT stay on-line all the time. Shut down your PC or log-off the desktop. Even if you use broadband network connection, there is an easy you can logoff just like a DialUp connection.

Here's how:In Network Connections, right-click the connection and check BOTH boxes in the General tab (see the network icon in Toolbar Tray all the time)
Now drag a SHORTCUT to the network connection where you want it (D... Read more

Hello folks,

This afternoon I tried printing a document from Serif PagePlus, but for some reason or other the printer's "properties" window wouldn't come up, so I quit PagePlus and tried to reopen it - and found that it "encountered a problem and needs to close". I tried opening it several times, and got the error each time, so I figured something was corrupted and I'd have to reinstall it. I then tried to edit an image in PhotoPlus, and got a different error:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I opened a few of my other Serif apps, and sure enough, they had this error too (except PagePlus, which still crashed "normally"). Then I decided to see if it was only a problem with Serif programs (perhaps a messed up registry key that they all share or something), and opened a few other programs. Most of them worked all right, but I found that Windows Movie Maker, and several program installer executables do the same thing (the PagePlus installer, on its CD, ran all right, but reinstalling didn't fix anything).

Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Oh, and I'm running Windows XP Service pack 2. Thanks!

Answer:The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b)

I think the error message may be caused by the WORM_KLEZ.E virus, or one of its variations. If you can, Navigate to C:\windows\minidump and Zip the recent minidumps and attach them here, there labeled by date.
also think that norton might not find it, but update and run your latest anti-virus software,

Hi Guys,

So I have been having this issue with a program crashing and displaying a error message. Also just a note, When the icon to start the application is clicked the program automatically displays the error. So I never actually get into the application. The error message reads "application failed to initialize properly 0xc0000005" (0xc0000005 means an access violation memory error occurred)

Now this is odd because the program works on other computers(of all different types)amd64, amd64x2, Intel core2duo, Intel celeron D, and a regular Intel P4 board. All with various different rams and such, leading me to assume this is not a hardware problem.

I have tried to use the built in program error debugger in windows "Dr. Watson" to get a error log. but for some reason the program does write to the file.

If anyone knows of any common problems associated with this error or fixes for it, please let know.

-Thanks

Then I chose the option to:

CHECK ONLINE FOR A SOLUTION AND CLOSE THE PROGRAM

Then I get a error message saying
THE APPLICATION FAILED TO INITIALIZE PROPERLY (Oxc0000005). CLICK OK TO TERMINATE THE APPLICATION.

My first reaction was to erase all the VST's and reinstall Pro Tools so that exactly what I did. Still didn't work. I then thought maybe I had a virus so I ran a full scan of Mcafee, Spybot, Adaware, regcure... and Malware remover. Nothing.

I then tried to run pro tools in safe mode and it fires up fine! all the way up to where it needs the M-Box 2. (in safe mode driver doesnt load, obviously) I recen... Read more

Hi -

Th appcrash names the faulting module as the Microsoft Network driver ntdll.dll, timestamp = 4791a7a6 = Fri Jan 18 23:32:54 2008. This is a healthy Vista SP1 driver and not the cause of the crash. The app that crashed is ProToolsLE.exe, time stamp = 472841cc = Wed Oct 31 01:50:20 2007.

The exception code mentioned is important - 0xc0000005 = memory access violation. Whenever I see ntdll.dll & 0xc...5 exception together, I look for a 3rd party firewall as it is usually the #1 cause and is most times able to get away from the scene and allows others to take the recorded blame. I believe your two biggest problems here are McAfee and Ad-Aware. I suggest you remove them both. When both are gone try your app a... Read more

Hello there

I have just received the error message "application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000033)" when i try to open Steinberg's Cubase SX2. I have not had this problem before and have been running this app successfully for 1 & 1/2 yrs.

Recent installs include only Google Earth and perhaps a Microsoft security update or two.. I am running WinXP SP2, have tried system restore on 8-10 separate dates with no success.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000033)

If it is only this program generating the error, try to reinstall it.

Hey,

I've been trying to install .NET framework 2.0 and it continuously fails,
I've been having a look online for solutions to this and one tells me
to rename mscoree.dll, so I do this and the .NET framework STILL does
not work, I restart my computer and A message ran through very quickly,
explaining it couldn't find mscoree.dll and created a new one.

Then whenever I opened windows messenger I get this message, there
are some other programs as well but I assume these are the ones that use
mscoree.dll

I have windows XP, if someone could help me fix the .NET framework as well,
that would be very helpful. Half way through installation, I get the error,
.NET framework error 25007,
Error 25007.Error occurred while initializing fusion.

Hi ,

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b)

so please anybody can help me to fix this problem .

Regards .

Answer:The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b)

Hello and welcome to TSF, rafat_arg.

I'd suggest re-replacing DfEngine.dll, as that's when the problem began, correct?

If that's not an option, you can always re-install your video game or your 'virtual demon' tools, although - I have no idea what that program is, what exactly is it? Where did you get both that program and you video game?

Please help: 0xc0000005 Application failed to initialize properly, I get this on start up, when I try to start almost all programs, add/remove programs will not allow me to remove any. This computer was infected with a virus a couple of months ago. This is my son's computer, and I had someone "fix it", they gave it back, and claimed to have removed the virus, and it looked like, I didn't really look at it too much....but then my son said he couldn't open up programs, ect......I am now wanted to figure out what I can do to fix it. I don't want to take it back to where I took it. Please help!!! I ran the fixiedef, and the combo fix, still receiving error when trying to open programs(like Office). Here are the logs and sysinfo.

Running Vista Home Premium SP 1 64 bit...cannot open any *.exe file. I have tried right clicking and having it run as administrator. I have also tried to run hijackthis, but get "Installation directory must be on a local hard drive". The only drive available is the local hard drive.
I have no problems getting into the registry, but am not sure what to look for.
I have tried in safe mode as well. No luck there either.
TrendMicro Antivirus is installed on machine, but does not find anything.
I tried to do a system restore, but that did not help either.
Any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance

I have a windows xp, until recently, everything runs fine. I regularly monitor and scan my computer.

But lately, after my computer has been on for a while, let's say a day or so, the system would crash and disable any programs from running. Not even the windows task manager would run. It feels like this error only occurs when the computer is out of ram or the system is abnormally trying to access outside of the memory range or the heap. It feels like the registry is slightly corrupted. For the record, normally, my computer can stay on for a week before I have to reboot.

Anyway, when this crash occurs and I open any applications (even the task manager), this error would pop up:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000142)"

When this crash occurs, my computer would freeze up or become extremely slow, such that I can't even restart the computer. But upon a forced turn off and a boot up, it works fine again for another 24 hours or so.

Since this is kind of out of my league, I seek your professional help. (Haha.) I am wondering if this is really a system or a registry problem, or if it is something else. If so, would a registry repair or a system repair do the trick? I am open to any suggestions and solutions.

Answer:The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000142)

Reads like a faulty program.Do you use any c/d burning programs and if so which?
