Mouse and Keyboard lock-up in game

Question: Mouse and Keyboard lock-up in game

When playing a game in Windows 98 (Half-Life), my mouse and keyboard lock up. The game continues running normally but i can't move, type or exit. I have to turn off my PC.

I have tried unplugging and replugging mouse and keyboard, which did not work.

Any ideas? Drivers/software? Or is it hardware? Can i fix it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone! I just installed Star Wars Battlefront 2 on an Asus Vivotab 8 tablet running Windows 10 32 bit. It has a weird bug where the game will crash unless I have a keyboard plugged in through an otg cable or over bluetooth. Is there any way I could install a driver so it thinks I have a physical keyboard plugged in 24/7?

Also, if this is possible, is there anything similar I could install so it believes I have a mouse plugged in as well? Thanks!

Answer:Looking for virtual keyboard/mouse driver (Game won't open if keyboard not detected)

Tablets are not designed to play games.
That being said, you can get a Bluetooth Keyboard or you can get a M icro USB to Standard USB adapter and plug in a USB keyboard.

My mouse and keyboard lock up like every 20 seconds. and sometimes they lock up completly and don't come back.
in between being locked up they run smoothly no jerky movment or anything. And when it locks up completly the stuff on the screen keeps going on as normal. eg. game keeps moving, movie keeps playing.

When they lock up temporarily everything I did with the mouse in the mean time happens right after I regain control.

The problem is not overheating.
I updated my mouse drivers so that is not problem.
I ran system monitor and the computer spiked to about 60% usage every time it happens.

I don't know is this is relivent but I tried to run scan disk and it restarted every time that happened.

I checked for viruses using McAfee and it found nothing

I have an Acer Aspire 3000. Here for specs:

One day whenever the thing would boot up it would get to the main windows screen then
the keyboard and mouse would just get extremely sluggish. (To the point where
one mouse move took minutes). Then everything would lock up. I booted with
Knoppix live cd to pull out some files that I needed and then I used the system recovery disk that came with the computer to nuke and restart.
It only reformated the C drive (I had the HD partitioned into c and d) and then when
the setup windows screens came up it everything locked up again. The only thing
I can think of is that what ever is causing the problem (virus? malware?) is on
the D portion of the drive. When I boot with Knoppix the keyboard and mouse work fine.

What are my options here? Can I use the knoppix to reformat d in FAT32 or NTFS then go redo the system restore? (I'm not too familiar with linux. This live cd was suggested to me as a way to go in and rescue data).

Answer:keyboard and mouse lock up on xp

Believe it or not, video drivers can cause mouse issues. Do you have the latest drivers for your video. You can also test to see if it's a video issue lowering hardware acceleration on the video card
This may take a while. Right click on desktop>properties>settings>advanced>troubleshoot tab at top. Now lower the slider one notch and click ok until out of the windows. You may have to reboot. Test and see if it helps, if it does then it's probably a driver issue.

My computer has developed a lock-up problem (Keyboard and Mouse Freezes)
It can happen randomly but it will also happen when I go into the "selection" process in Photoshop and I have tried to download the SP2 windows update and it locks up every time.I have changed from windows XP home to Pro,
put in all new memory, purged and reinstalled all programs. For a while it seemed OK, but gradually it started to do it again and is becoming more frequent. What causes lock-ups and what is likely doing it to me.

I've been running into problems as of late and i'm not quite sure what is wrong. I use a microsoft optical mouse and for some reason it stops working after a little bit of time. No power to the unit at all, red light doesnt come on. Less than a minute after it locks up on me my keyboard locks as well. When I reboot everything is fine for a bit then it happens again. I tried the mouse in the ps/2 port and usb port and same thing happens. I was thinking it might have been the psu that was replaced early last month but I have no clue heh. A normal ball mouse works fine in the system no lock ups as of yet.

Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can a failing mouse lock up your keyboard?

That may be possible Im using a Microsoft optical mouse on one of my systems it works fine, my dad gave it to me it did the same thing on his computer that it's doing on yours the only difference may be that he loaded the software that came with it, I didn't.

Hey all!  New user, first post.  Please forgive me if there's a post about this before.  I did a search, and didn't turn up anything quite like mine.
Ok, so let's start with the system specs:
Self-built machine with
Z77 chipset mobo
Intel i7-2600k processor
Nvidia GTX 670 gpu
16 gb Corsair RAM
power supply exceeds the needs of the system
The symptoms:
While gaming, my keyboard and mouse will sometimes freeze temporarily or permanently.  This usually happens when I'm playing League of Legends, however, it has started doing it with other games.  If it's a temporary freeze, I'll notice a distinct framerate drop after it unfreezes, and it will recover.  If it's permanent, the keyboard and mouse will lock up, the lights on both will blink on and off, and I'll have to restart my computer to recover control.
Solutions I have tried:
Driver updates for anything and everything, from USB to GPU drivers
Anti-virus scans with free AVG
check power loads on rails to ensure proper power supply
About myself:
I built this machine myself.  I cannot say that I am the most computer proficient person out there, but I consider myself to be much more competent than many.  As such, I may have not checked something properly.
If anyone has any ideas, then I'd greatly appreciate hearing them.  Cheers!

One of my computers:
Hp Pavilion a1210n

My keyboard and mouse randomly lock up, the intervals are as little as 2 minutes to 10 minutes or so. I have Recently ran a virus removal and removed some spy cookies with a current norton av. I also tried a bootcfg /rebuild and to no avail... The weird thing is the computer still operates after the keyboard and mouse stop working (e.g. it does auto updates, and norton scans, the input just doesnt work). I have recently tried a different keyboard and mouse, but the same problem still occurs, memtest passed. I have tried safe mode as well, and it still has the same issue, and creating a new user didnt do anything either, same issue presented itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows XP has decided it doesn't like my Belkin F8E815 wireless PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo.

I see the problem when I switch off my PC and then switch on again. (Restarts don't seem to bother it.)

At the login screen, my mouse works fine... until I touch my keyboard. Then both lock up--meaning all key strokes and mouse movement/clicks are ignored. Windows itself hasn't frozen; I can shut down with a single press of the power switch.

I have tried a few things and discovered the following:
I can "fix" the problem by rebooting, going into the BIOS setup and pressing F10 to save and exit. Oddly, I don't have to make any changes to the BIOS--just save and exit! Pressing escape to exit without saving doesn't work. Of course, this fix works only until my next reboot.
I can put in my Ubuntu DVD and run off the disc without any problems at all. (Hence this being posted to the Windows XP forum.)
I tried out my kids' USB keyboard/mouse combo. They work fine with my PC.
I borrowed a wired PS/2 keyboard and wired PS/2 mouse from work. They also work fine with my PC...
...In fact, I can even use the wired PS/2 keyboard from work with my troublesome Belkin mouse without any trouble...
... but... when I swap (meaning I use the Belkin keyboard with mouse from work) I see a similar problem. (Only the keyboard locks up, not the mouse.)
I will be very grateful and impressed if you guys can solve this one for me.

I thought being specific in my thread title would get specific help.

So I just rebuild my computer, all new parts. My computer runs great, way faster then my old rig. A few days in my mouse and keyboard lock up at random, I'm never doing anything specific, and its not something that happens everyday. Sometimes I can go days without it happening. The part that confuses me is that nothing else is every effect. I've had it happen when I'm watching a movie and the movie continues completley unaffected, the system clock keeps going. I've had it happen while listening to music and my music continues on forever etc. you get the point.
The only way I can fix it is by resetting my computer from the front panel. My mouse is am A4 Tech optical mouse (Model: Swop- 3) I've had it for 6 or 7 years now without a single problem across mutiple rigs and multiple iteration of windows 7; My keyboard is an old BenQ keyboard (Model: x700) I've only had it about a year, but it used to belong to my buddy for a few years before that.
I've scoured the internet but nobody has had a mouse and keyboard lock up that didn't affect other parts of the computer. I have a crazy tech guy (Used to run a Geek Squad) and he's a little stumped too.

Ok, so I've been having this issue for about a week now where my keyboard and mouse won't work once I reach the Windows 10 lockscreen. They work just fine in the BIOS, but beyond that, not so much as an LED works on either one. They also work in the Windows recovery menu, for some strange reason. I've tried a different mouse, just to see if maybe it wasn't just my stuff, but the issue still persisted.

I've tried every sort of trouble shooting you can imagine. Played around with all the USB settings in the BIOS several times, and still nothing. Tried different USB ports and such, to no avail. I've reset the BIOS. I've tried restoring to a previous version of Windows, I've tried various advanced Windows recovery options, and still nothing.

I am NOT able to get a PS2 mouse and keyboard or an adapter at the moment, so that is out of the question. And, obviously, I'm unable to access my windows options to update anything, as my peripherals aren't working.

Oddly enough, my other USB devices are working, like my WiFi adapter, and my wired controller. It is JUST my keyboard and mouse that don't work.

Any solution anyone might have would be greatly appreciated!

I purchased the following and installed for a friend. emachines et1835-01 win7 desktop.. 3gb,300gb,32bit. am using with her 2yr gateway monitor. She's only been using this new system for about 4 weeks. The only additional software installed was aol9-using dialup. A few days ago she called me saying her mouse OR her keyboard would just lock up,turning off/on pc was only way to get back. Thought it was something regarding hibernation or sleep, but today I had her turn off pc, then back on. When on the phone with her. after turning back on, everything was fine. after she hit caps lock on keyboard, mouse and keyboard froze (yellow light on monitor).I waited until system slept (15 min.) just to see if could wake up-nothing. keyboard and mouse still frozen (yellow light on monitor). Other times, from what I could determine from talking to her, it's always the keyboard starting the problem. hitting random keys locks up keyboard, which locks up mouse. she stated she was replying to email (aol) and in the middle of typing, keyboard locked, then mouse locked at same time. I am going there tomorrow, and am going to look at keyboard connection into pc (pins bent, etc), then at the drivers (up to date? ok?). other than that, I have no idea what else to look for--any help would is appreciated! Thanks.

About 1 month ago I did a clean install of Windows 10 for the first time.

All has been well, until recently when my PC went to sleep, and when I woke it, the screen wouldn't wake up, so I had to hard reset it. At this point Windows installed some updates and it seemed to be ok.

Today I cold booted and when I got to the Windows 10 lock screen, the keyboard and mouse do not work. I can confirm that they do work at POST and in Windows 7 on my other drive. When I get the Windows 10 boot screen, the num lock light on the keyboard goes out as does the optical light on my mouse. Both are USB.

I've done some googling and so far I can only see options to reinstall windows, or restore it.

Windows 10 seems to be unusable now, can anyone help get this working?

Hello, I'm experiencing a problem with Windows, where when I use a program such as windows media player, or msn, the computer will lock up the mouse and keyboard a couple minutes later. Although it is not a complete lock up; I am still able to move the mouse, I just can't click anything, and with the keyboard I can use some shortcuts like CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and the windows key still makes the menu from the bottom left to come up. (although I can't use ALT+TAB or ALT+F4.)

If I log out when it is locked up, and log back in, it will remain locked up. If I restart the computer entirely it works fine, until I run the programs again.

It will not lock up with any games though, which I've found weird, but some other programs such as itunes will lock up. At first I thought it would be something with my sound becuase I first experienced it with windows media player, but after it locked up with only msn live running, I'm pretty sure it is a Windows issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have multiple computers with the Win10 (64 bit) update. On two of the computers, if I enter the lock screen by using the Start-L keyboard shortcut, I can exit the lock screen (and enter the log on screen) by clicking the mouse or hitting a key. However, if there has been an extended period of time (e.g. overnight), on one computer I can only exit the lock screen by pressing a mouse button. On another computer I can only exit the lock screen by hitting the keyboard. I would like it to be able to use either to exit the lock screen. Some deltas:
Computer 1 (mouse exit works) has wireless bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
Computer 2 (keyboard exit works) has a wireless keyboard, but it is IR (so the IR receiver is tied to a USB port). The mouse is a Wacom mouse that works with my drawing tablet. The tablet is attached via USB.
I upgraded both computers from WinXP 64bit, and did not have this issue.
Any ideas? I'm thinking the devices must be entering some quiescent state when 'off' for a period of time, but, like I said, this did not happen with XP.

Computer boots to a beach scene with clock(lock screen), but unable to do anything except turn PC off. Keyboard and mouse are disabled on boot. Tried every option from restore to recovery and system says it's unable to perform them. I don't have restore disks or any files to boot from jump drive. So need files to put on jump drive to boot with so I can reinstall Windows. This computer was upgraded since purchase to Windows 10.I don't want to lose files on PC so plan to rename folders in command prompt where personal files may be. Please help me where they may be so I can do this. I do IT work but don't have HP knowledge. Many years ago I would just rename windows folder then reinstall windows then copy folders I need from old folder then deltree old windows folder. I'm sure there is a partition with the windows files but not sure I'll be able to get Windows 10 back, but not worried about that at this point. Would just like to get computer functioning again and not have it be just a clock now. Thanks in advance. Stephen

Can anyone help me out here? I'm looking for a simple app I can run from my system tray, that when a certain hotkey is pressed, blocks all keyboard and mouse input, only unlocking it with a certain password (or hotkey press). It'd be a lifesaver and I'd love a suggestion.

Since today morning I am not able to login to my Win10 PC. It starts normal until the lock Screen appears. The clock in the lock Screen is working, so everything seems to be ok. But the System does not react on any keyboard or mouse Input.
The Keyboard is working perfectly in the BOOT Menue (after F2 during Startup). So I am quite sure that this is not a hardware problem.
Can anyone helb me ?

Answer:Win10 - Lock screen does not react os keyboard or mouse input, what can I do?

I seem to have a similar issue, where my keyboard on one boot works fine at the lock screen, and the next time it does not. When the keyboard doesn't work, neither does the mouse. However, I am able to "swipe up" on my touch screen to enter my pin code.
I think it may be a bug that makes it think a touch screen is enabled without keyboard and mouse, even though my keyboard and mouse are attached. If you're having that issue without a touch screen, then the issue is more serious than I thought.
I wish I had a workaround.

I hope I'm not wasting your time here, as I'm not positive this is a virus/malware/keylogger/whatever issue, but I came here knowing you're all knowledgeable in this and hoping you could at least cross this as an issue off the list. Recently I've had issues (I've actually only played Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins to test this) with my input being lagged or delayed, not sure how to put it. Basically, if I'm standing still looking around, everything is fine, however, when I start moving my character, once I release the button (whether it be the movement keys or the mouse button while looking around) it carries on for anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds. I've tried many different game/performance things, such as Vsync and Mouse Smoothing etc. Anyways, I'm STILL waiting on the RootRepeal to finish (boy this has taken all day), but I'm hoping the DDS may lead to something while I wait. Thanks in advance.

*EDIT* I added a HijackThis log for a bit more info until this RootRepeal is done.

Right now that ive got that off my chest. Here is my problem. I've just purchased a brand new logtitech MK320 keyboard, amd mouse, (both wireless)..and ive just noticed that there is no caps lock, or number lock indicator. The caps lock indicator is very essential and I thought that MOST keyboards nowadays have a caps lock indicaot as standard, any suggestions for this please?? is there any software that can be downloaded please??
many thanks

Answer:logitech MK320 wireless keyboard and caps lock indicators!!!

I have the LX710 wireless keyboard. This does not have the indicators you mention on the keyboard.
If your keyboard is similar the indication appears as a green message on the screen when the keys are operated, but last only seconds. It will say whether on or off.

I was infected by the Antivirus soft (expletive). Here is my original description. Still can't log into windows normally. My keyboard and mouse stop responding at the login screen and the cursor freezes. Fortunately they still work in safe mode. Hello....brand new to this, so sorry if this is posted incorrectly. Problem: tried to download harddrive cloning program to fix my laptop that was indicating an eminent hd failure. Got infected with Antivirus Soft. Realized it immediately. Downloaded PC Tools Internet Security and paid for it, according to instructions I found online with another computer. Those instructions said run scan before rebooting computer, but the program said the computer needed to be restarted to work. Against my better judgement, I restarted the computer. When windows login screen came up, both the keyboard and mouse froze before I could enter my password. Would not move or allow any data entry....just hung up. Searched for possible ways to fix this and everything indicated to boot into safe mode, which I did and fortunately both keyboard and mouse work in safe mode. Ran system scan with pc tools and it found some of the antivirus soft problems along with whatever else it found. Further researched these problems and came across malwarebytes anti-malware and downloaded it. Ran that a few times and it found some of the same stuff. Came across this website and youtube solutions describing the combofix, so I ran that too. The computer still works in s... Read more

I had the Lenovo Horizon 2 for several months before making use of the game pieces. After using the pieces to play air hockey and other games I find that the wireless mouse and keyboard no longer work. It's the SK-8861 keyboard and I think the model # for the mouse is T3A002. I am able to get a bluetooth keyboard to work, and a wired mouse works, so the USB ports are OK. Additionally the auto rotate function no longer works. If I turn the device vertical the screen flips to vertical for a second but then switches back to horizontal orientation. I have all the latest Windows 8 patches. When I rebooted today I was prompted to upgrade Aura, but that update failed, with the error code 1153. Not sure what to do short of resetting to factory default but that would be a drag.

My errors are a freezing cursor - dead mouse on every other reboot ..and.. With file transfers from one HDD to another I will frequently get a system lockup of Windows (forcing me to reboot. hard reboot). My System is CLEAN of viri and trojan as wella s spyware. I Have WinXP Pro Sp2. Running Zone Alarm Pro v6, Eset NOD32 v2.5, Webroot Spysweeper (for coookies and alt scans), Spyware Doctor v. (resident), and Trojan Hunter v4 (also resident on boot). I am also booting and browsing with Pop-Up Stopper Pro. My Hardware? Abit NF7-S rev.2, Athlon 3200 Barton core, Best OCZ 400Mhz RAM (?) - 1Gb in dual channel, Audigy 4 Pro for sound. Latest drivers for all "to best of my knowledge" Any Helpers? :)

*More on the file tranfer lock-ups. The two other drives are Seagate drives and identicle. They're 300 Gb each... I have not reformated them since my last Windows reinstall - they were detected right off.

Could be Windows isnt seeing those drives for what they are?? Even worse, a bus problem?

Thank you in advance.

I have a Satellite C660 which was working fine this morning. When I returned from work and powered it on, the entire keyboard is not working and therefore cannot enter my login details.
The Num lock and Caps lock are lit.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Answer:Satellite C660 - keyboard is not working but Num lock and Caps lock are lit

Are you able to disable the CapsLock and NumLock?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?

If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. I cannot recreate this problem on another X61tablet and this behaviour happens even when the notebook is in a docking station with an external keyboard.  anybody seen this error before?

Question: 2nd Game Lock Ups

Hey, really not sure where to put this but this has been bugging me for a while now and I should really see if I can get some help to fix it. Quite awkward to explain the problem but ill give it a try;

If I start up my computer, I can then load up any game that I have with no worries and play for as long as I want, however when I then close the game, and try to open up another game (could be the same game again) then my computer will attempt to start it, and lockup on a black screen with the loading cursor not spinning requiring a system restart.

At first I thought it was to do with steam as it appeared to be only steam games which did it, but it does seem to do this with non-steam games too (However for some reason it does not with starcraft 2). So this has really been getting annoying having to restart if I want to change game.

Any help on this problem, or things that you could need me to post up?

Oh and I have done various memory, CPU and GPU hardware tests and nothing seems to be wrong, and this is with the latest drivers and a clean windows install so I really dont understand what could be causing it.

Question: Game Lock Up

Ok i will try to explain all this in one go. i have microsoft flight sim 2004 just installed, The problem been is that after so long say 1, 2 mins it just locks up and i have to restart my computer from the restart button. In this game, it gives you a diagnostic tool wich allows you to boot the game in safe mode and play it, to see if there is a hardware fault, I did this and it didnt freeze or hang. But as soon i i start it the proper way its back to it hanging and freezing. So this is suggesting that i have a hardware fault. What does anyone think can be the problem, I run other games and dont have this problem, my card is a Geforce Fx 5900 and i have all the latest driver and direct x installed. My OS Is XP Home with service pack 2 and i have 512 ddr Amd 2500 processer.

Hello, after purchasing a new PC, I can no longer play a game. The game in question is Medal of Honor Allied Assault, a very old game now.

I am running:

Windows XP
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB)
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

The problem is that I cannot run the game for more than 30 minutes without it locking up and giving me a system memory error:
As soon as I start the game I get frequent lock-ups, where the game basically ceases for around 0.2/0.5 seconds. These lock-ups increase in frequency and length until finally the game crashes, with a repeating audio of whatever was playing as it crashed - like a skipping record.
If you know about the "lagometer" in games, I have taken pictures of the lagometer, showing the green line disturbance that occurs at each lock-up. You can see that the first picture shows the minimal disturbance at the beginning of the session, and the last shows the frequent lock-ups close to crashing.

I enjoy playing this game competitively... Read more

Try to reset your virtual memory setting.
The file should be a fixed size so that it does not get fragmented, with minimum and maximum set the same
The file should be 2.5 times the size of RAM (or some other multiple)
Go To Start,Control Panel,System,Advanced, under the settings tab select advanced, and on the bottom under Virtual memory settings you can change it to what it needs to be. You can also let your system try to run it but that is only if nothing else works.

So recently I got some new ram and a new BFG 8800GT... I noticed when playing games like NFS Most wanted and Call Of Jaurez that my computer will lock up and freeze and I'll have to restart, I'm not sure if this problem is caused by the new video card or the new ram [its kingston valueram, I have it overclocked just a bit, is any overclocking too much for valueram?]

I heard there was a bad batch of 8800GTs, so I thought it could be that? I picked this one up earlier this month.

More info:

My 8800GT is overclocked to 679/979.

Sometimes when it locks up in Most Wanted it will recover, but graphics and textures will be misplaced, lots of graphical glitches, but when I minimize the game and go back into it all the graphics are fine again.

I recently had some ram slot troubles, certain slots not working, but I took the motherboard out of the case and reset it in there and now all the slots will work.

Anyways, thanks in advance, I want to get some advice before I crack my computer open.

Answer:Mouse scroll and keyboard stop working until left click of mouse

Hello mpmckee,

First run Antivirus, Malware, and Spyware scans. Remove anything the programs find.

Note: if you need some suggestions on which tools to use, let me know.

Afterwards, test functionally of mouse and keyboard.

If no change, run System Restore, choose a Restore point before the issue started.

Again test behavior of mouse and keyboard.

If the issue has been resolved, go ahead and reinstall windows Updates.

I got a wireless mouse Penguin Ambidextrous Vertical Mouse | Posturite. It is supposed to use generic windows 2.4 Ghz adapter. However, windows 7 is unable to find any drivers. I have 2 computers, desktop & notebook, both by Packard Bell & running Vista Home Premium SP2.
The desktop came with a (Packard Bell) USB wireless keyboard & optical mouse. The keyboard's fine (if you ignore the proprietary clutter!), but using that mouse has been like swimming through treacle right from the start. Also, I have to left-click twice instead of once, often but not always. I haven't figured out any pattern to it, so get multiple instances of e.g. my browser opening (which, understandably, the computer doesn't like one little bit).
I tried a new combo (from Lidl), but it was no improvement. With more time now to use the desktop for the work it's intended for, the problem's moved to the top of the list!
Before any Helproom Angels suggest possible causes, I have followed up plenty of good advice online re sluggish mice, but to no avail (more detail later, if wanted). But I hadn't been thinking straight (prolonged troubleshooting seems to have that effect!), and somehow missed the simple first step of swapping things round.
Now I've tried that, it seems to me that it's eliminated the previous suspects (dirt, run-down/duff batteries, wrong settings etc), and some mice are just better than others?
With the laptop, I use a little cordless USB optical mouse, which has always been nice and responsive. When I tried the Packard Bell set there instead, I had just the same problems as when it's connected to the desktop.
Trying the notebook mouse with the desktop ... Read more

Answer:Recommend wireless keyboard/mouse combo with more responsive mouse?

I've had this combo click here for about a year now and am very happy with it. The keyboard batteries seem to last forever, not changed them yet and the mouse takes just one AA battery and lasts a reasonable time before it requires changing.

Fan IssueI've cleaned my laptop sometime this month after about two years of use. Popped it open, blew everything, popped it back. I saw a post before posting this about removing the battery before cleaning so i'm considering going back and doing that. I usually keep it running in high performance because I use it for gaming. Core/CPU usage is almost never above 10%, currently sitting at 2%-4%. Memory is usually high because I only have a 500GB SSD, currently at 58%. The other stats (disk, network, and GPU), sit at 0 (although GPU will boost to about 60% when gaming). Currently, I have it in balanced mode and set the maximum core usage to 40% and it's still going strong. Any suggestions?  Gaming IssueAlso on a side note, if anyone can assist me with a gaming issue I'm having. I do have two GPU's (integrated and 960 GTX) and have always used the GTX as the primary source, uncapped in-game graphics, limited background interference (services, programs, etc.) and possibly other things I can't think of but cannot release the in-game FPS cap. Even when settings are at the lowest settings. In previous times, if I were to uncap, it'd reach above 60 easily consistently but now when it's uncapped, it never goes above 60. i suspect that this may be overheating or my outdated hardware, but i'm not sure what to upgrade

VGA: GeForce FX 5200 [128 MB, AGP 8x]

CPU: 48 C (118 F) it goes as high as 122F in games
Aux: 31 C (88 F)

is there any other info i need to provide ? what about the PSU ? [and how would i find this info?]

i only have 1 fan and it's used to cool the CPU, the video card does not have a fan, it only has a heat sink that gets really really hot. . .i touched it and could not keep my finger there for more than 2 seconds literally. This is my first time. I have searched the postings to find a similar problem/solution to no avail so here goes.
I recently upgraded my RAM from 32Mb EDO to 128Mb SDRAM, which was done successfully and picked up on the reboot.
Since then my son has been unable to play Need For Speed 111 Hot Pursuit. Similar cd rom games still work and there are no other system problems. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times. It always gets to the menu from either auto run or the desk top shortcut. The other menu items are ok but when you hit the play button it immediately goes to a blank screen and locks the pc up without error messages. CTRL ALT DELETE doesn't work and I have to reboot. I have tried the game's tech help and at their suggestion upgraded DirectX from version 5 to 8a and checked some settings with no result obviously. I have also exchanged the 128Mb module with the retailer for another one in case there was a fault. I can't think of anything else. Any ideas would be appreciated.

recently, my monitor has been flickering and then the whole computer freezes and/or the monitor just shuts off [with a soundloop of the last sound in game]

before i could play HL2, but now i cant even play Counter-Strike without this problem occuring. i used to run CS at 85 fps before but now i'm forced to run it at 60 fps because of the flickering/freezing. It still freezes at 60 fps sometimes. I tried to play Lineage II. . .same result.

i suspect that this may be overheating or my outdated hardware, but i'm not sure what to upgrade

according to EVEREST Home Edition:
OS: Win2000 Pro
CPU: Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
VGA: GeForce FX 5200 [128 MB, AGP 8x]
Memory: 512 MB [two 256MB DDR SDRAM]

Motherboard: 38 C (100 F)
CPU: 48 C (118 F) it goes as high as 122F in games
Aux: 31 C (88 F)

is there any other info i need to provide ? what about the PSU ? [and how would i find this info?]

i only have 1 fan and it's used to cool the CPU, the video card does not have a fan, it only has a heat sink that gets really really hot. . .i touched it and could not keep my finger there for more than 2 seconds literally. I tried opening the case with a fan blowing into it. this seems to help a bit but my computer ends up freezing anyways.

i have already updated the drivers for my video card. i haven't tried to overclock anything.

Any suggestions to what i should buy ? i got alot of christmas money =) Thanks so much

Answer:Flickering monitor, Freezing Computer, and Lock ups in game

First off you should probably place another fan in the case, or another one on the graphics card. Your other temperatures appear to be normal. I was having issues like this awhile back. Try updating your graphics card driver, but use forceware. Here is the link for your card- . Hope this helps!

Question: Mouse Lock-ups

I recently built a computer and installed Windows 7 x64. I can post the computer specs if necessary, but I think this issue is more OS related.

This problem didn't start until the computer was 1-2 weeks old. The mouse will lock up for just 1/2 second to a second, and then the "plug and play" sound will play (the one when you remove a USB flash drive, for example). This occurs a few times an hour. I can't really correlate it to anything else (occurs in games, while browsing the internet, etc). I'm pretty sure this is some sort of USB issue.

I tried to google this a bit and all of the fixes I found don't work for me. I have the computer in "high performance" under power options, and I have the "usb selective suspend setting" disabled (under power options). Switching the USB port did not make a difference.

My mouse is a Logitech MX310 and it is connected via USB.

Answer:Mouse Lock-ups

Sounds like you may have a bad connection to the mouse.
Try a different USB port.
If that doesn't help, there may be a bad connection in
the mouse cable.
Might try a different mouse.

Hello Ladies & Gentalmen,      I've installed Windows 7 back onto my new hard drive. My Syn-mouse pad now won't lock when I tap on the top left of the pad.  Can I download all the syn-mouse pad drivers (again) to get it to work?  The second set of drivers..will they cause trouble, with the other set already in it??  The mouse pad seems to work otherwise fine, i just can't look the pad.  (Which is a must for me most of the time).   Zelda

People!Ive just change my mouse back to PS2 connection but every time i boot up xp the arrow just locks or freezes on the screen.Problem being i cant unlock it unless i reboot and then only if i start to fiddle (carefull here..) with the mouse. This seems ot resolve the freezing process but i fell like a right dummy doing this.its a "genius netscroll optical eye PS" mouse running on winxp home.driver issues anyone?? but which one?many thsnk[email protected]winxp home sp1nf7-s 2.0 (bios 21)512mb 3200ddr

When you say fiddle do you mean with the cable at the PS/2 connection? The port itself could be at fault. If you have USB ports you can get an USB-PS/2 adapter to connect the mouse (and keyboard).

Keyboard & Mouse: Acer Desktop

Ever since I would say, the past upgrade for Windows 10, my mom's Acer desktop's keyboard has been really laggy. For example, when I go to wake it from sleep to unlock it, the keyboard's Number lock and Caps lock keys do not want to light up. It seems as if the keyboard doesn't want to respond in a timely manner along with the computer. The same goes for the wireless Logitech mouse.

Keyboard: Toshiba Laptop

The same as I mentioned above goes for the Toshiba Laptop that was originally mine, that I have given to my sister.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Keyboard & Mouse: Acer Desktop - Keyboard: Toshiba Laptop

The Acer is in my 2nd set of Specs while the Toshiba is a Satellite C55-B5299.

I currently have an X60 and have never had a single issue.  However I was recently infected with a Trojan, and after removing it with a reputable program, the keyboard and trackpoint mouse have stopped working. When I get the windows login screen, the trackpoint works fine, but the second I press any key, both keyboard and mouse become totally frozen. I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse with no issue at, but that is the only way. Any ideas as to how I can get them back up and working? Clearly, they (at least the mouse) are not totally fried b/c it works fine before I touch the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, JT

Go to Solution.

Answer:X60 keyboard and trackpoint stopped working; only usb keyboard/mouse work

SOLVED!  I simply had to update the drivers in the device manager.  For some reason they were corrupt and it could not load them.  Simple fix, just took too much thought and digging to find solution.

If I right click icons on the desktop - XP locks up and I have to reboot. Anyone got any ideas. Oh, by the way if I start in safe mode it works fine.

Answer:Right clicking mouse causes XP to lock up

Safe mode loads default drivers and bypasses the startup list. Try a normal startup and then disable everything running in the background before using right-click.

I've had my desktop for a few years and never had a problem.  Just recently, it has started showing a Keyboard Error message on a black screen when I boot it up.  The wireless keyboard and mouse do not work, although it appears to boot up correctly.  Since I have a password on my computer, I cannot log in or do anything.  When this happens, I've rebooted 2-3 times, and it the keyboard and mouse will finally start working.  I have moved the toggle to different USB ports and this does not appear to make a difference.  How do I prevent this from happening?

Hi. I just downloaded software for a keyboard and mouse from Kensington on my new Dell XPS 210 computer. I got a message to reboot the computer, so turned it off and back on. When it came on the USB keyboard and mouse no longer worked. I unplugged them and plugged in the USB connector and new mouse and key board. They don't work either. I couldn't shut down normally, so pushed the start button, waited and turned it on again. The keyboard and mouse still dont work. I get a message saying that the devices are not functioning. My question: How do I fix this problem WITHOUT a keyboard or mouse>Everything I've seen says to point to this, click this, or type in do I do this without a keyboard? Or Mouse?I've retried the USB keyboard and mouse and neither work.I'm getting worried as my logic tells me there is a big problem now!I went on the kensington website (on my old computer) and it says, DO NOT DOWNLOAD Software on VISTA - the keyboard and mouse work without it. There is no further information - I wish I'd known this before I downloaded the software.Any advice would be most appreciated. I'm not an expert - just a person who tries to find solutions and learn. Thanks so much.

Answer:HELP! Downloaded software for wireless keyboard and now NO KEYBOARD or MOUSE!

wait, so you're saying you're running vista?also, what do you mean by "software" for your keyboard and mouse? do you mean a driver?if so, i'm not sure about vista, but you can try rolling back the drivers by going to device manager, and selecting the device you this by :right click on my computer>hardware>device manager

I want to remove the monitor, basically gut it, and turn the keyboard and trackpad of my laptop into a keyboard with built-in mouse for my desktop. It's an old laptop that I was thinking about throwing away anyway, so I might as well turn it into something useful.

look at attachment.

I want be able to connect that to my desktop with USB and be able to use it as both keyboard and mouse (have both the keyboard and trackpad work)

My desktop is right next to my bed, so I sometimes swing the monitor around and put the keyboard and mouse on the bed. But it's damn hard to use a mouse when you have bedsheets and blankets and other stuff that's soft as a surface.

Also, I can't have any compatibility problems, it needs to work with all 3 systems in my house that I may want to connect it to. Mac OS, Windows XP/Vista, and Linux (Ubuntu and Fedora)

Answer:I want to turn my laptop keyboard and trackpad into an all-in-one keyboard and mouse

would anyone happen to know, and can give me a step-by-step?

Upon playing Quake 3 Arena my mouse seems to lock up or lag for a second or longer at some points. It seems to happen only when i move my mouse quickly.

The mouse itself isnt the problem, as I've tried three different brands. The problem cannot be duplicated in other games. My machine is far beyond recommended settings so it isnt a graphical lock up, its just the mouse.

If i was firing during the lock up, it will continue to fire until it unlocks, or same with jumping.

Quake 3 Arena has a specific command "M_filter" which I set to 1, then 5, then out of curiosity 2000 lol.... Nothing seemed to change.

One may suggest that I just raise my mouse sensitivity, but that isnt an option as slower sensitivities = better aim for me.

Upon more research, the lock up doesnt occur past mouse sensitivity 12, but I play with 2.7.

Anyone have any ideas on how to increase the mouse buffer size or whatever. Does that even exist?

Comp Specs:

HP Pavilion Elite m9150f
Windows Vista
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor @ 2.40 Ghz
3 Gig RAM
Nvidia 8800 video card.

Current / favorite mouse;
Some cheap Logitech style.

Tested Mice;
Razor Boomslang 2000 ( with updated drivers )
Logitech mentioned above
Some other cheap mouse that the brand name has worn off of

Any Ideas?

If you would like to try to reproduce the problem you can either download a free game based off of the Quake 3 Engine called Open Arena ( Have not tested Open Arena myself ) OR you can download the free stand alone ... Read more

Answer:Quake 3 Arena Mouse lag/lock up

Have you checked your mouse polling? Normal USB seems to be 125 Hz. Try one of the apps out there and see if you can increase it at least 250 Hz.

Most of the time when I try to use my right mouse button ( for example, right clicking on an icon, photograph, file name) will freeze up the system and it will become un-responsive right away.

If I am doing a word doc, I can right click for spell check and that works fine, or right click the start menu.

I have a Dell computer running XP service pack 3 with a pent D 2.33Ghz and 1 G memory.

I tried renaming Normal.dotm, as someone had suggested, but it made no difference.

Any Ideas?

Hey,I have a Logitech G11 Keyboard and a Toshiba PA3706E-1ET1 Mouse, and it'll sometimes randomly switch off (not disconnect, the cursor just doesn't move.) However, this hasn't happened scince I plugged it in the USB Ports on the Keyboard. However, the Enter Key also switches off the mouse. It doesn't matter wether the reciever is in my PC or in the Keyboard, the Enter key makes the cursor stop moving.I have no Virus', I've scanned with Microsoft Security Essentials, Avast! Free AntiVirus and AntiMalwareBytes, no virus'.The only thing that has changed is I installed an NVidia 9800GT Inno3D Graphics card the same time the problems started. I know this can not be the problem from where I've asked elsewhere. The Graphics Card is totally compatible and works perfectly as well, so it couldn't be that. All Drivers are up to date afaik. The mouse doesn't have any drivers apart from something called "MouseDriver.exe." I've used the Devices Panel to make sure they're up to date and they are.Any ideas? I want to keep my mouse, my keyboard and my Graphics card. Thanks!

Question: Keyboard lock up

Recently installed xp and grabbed all latest drivers and DX. Only now in FPS type games my keyboard locks up on a particular button when moving. It can usually be stopped by pressing pause or escape and going into and out of the menus but its pretty annoying as you can imagine.

Any ideas? It's just a generic ps2 keyboard with the plug and play driver.

Answer:Keyboard lock up

That weird perhaps updating the keyboard driver or looking in the Keyboard area in the control panel perhaps they have options in there that can stop this?

Question: Keyboard lock

one employee is having difficulty with his dell latitude d510. When he logs onto the domain the keyboard locks, however the mouse is still functional. The keyboard usually unlocks with a reboot, however not all the time, sometimes it unlocks the keyboard by just waiting several minutes, again not all the time. There are several data aquisition programs running at start up (geotechnical instrumentation programs). I recently cloned the hard drive to one with a larger memory (as his old one has less than 2% available memory), the hard drive has also been put in a different laptop, same model (latitude d510). The problem occured with both hard drives and both laptops. I have also updated the driver and run diagnostics test for the system, but nothing has come up. Any ideas on how to go about solving this problem? any help would be appreciated.
