Intel 5100 AGN does not see wireless network

Question: Intel 5100 AGN does not see wireless network

My wife's Sony Vaio notebook VGN CS320J (Vista 64 bit Home Premium) would not connect wirelessly on a consistent basis (reboot, drop-offs etc) I downloaded latest driver from Sony website & now it doesn't see any wireless networks (mine or neighbors) while my other notebooks Dell (vista) & Gateway (XP) see & connect fine. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Intel 5100 AGN does not see wireless network

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... I would like to add some information that I left out that MAY be crucial here.On the NEWER ThinkPad, I am using Access Connections 5.02.  At work, the wireless adapter works properly and I am able to use the Intel Adapter. It is only at home where I have the Linksys Router that I have a problem.I also noticed that when I looked at the Wireless Driver Properties, there was NO tab for "wireless" -- which I would have expected to see....Instead there are only TWO tabs... one for "General" and one for "Advanced"... Just like what you would see for an EthernetAdapter..... this all looks a bit weird to me.....As I did not configure this laptop, I do not know if the Hotkey and Power Manager were installed BEFORE the Access Connections or not.... any ideas? TIA --Zvi

This seems to be a recurring theme as I've found several entries on this subject but no real solutions. I have an Actiontec MI424WR router. I have had at least 6 different wireless devices connected to this router that include MS and Linksys game routers, Xbox, 2 Lenovo t42 thinkpads and a t60p think pad. All work flawlessly so I don't think this is a router issue. Windows Vista Home As soon as the connection drops, I go to access connections and bring it up and it reconnects. I've downloaded the latest drivers, ran thru all the lenovo updates. Help!

HELP!Lenovo Y530 with Vista removed and XP added.. Wireless card is 5100 AGN  I have what I believe to be the latest drivers from intel website.I am using Intel Proset software and whenever I run it, it tells me that the hardware switch is disabled. When I switch the hardware switch on or of I get the little message on my screen that indicates it is on or off - SO I know the switch is working. THe laptop came with Vista.. I put XP on it. I have insalled all the drivers from the lenovo XP driver link that I got from these forums. I really need wireless to work on this computer - I am setting it up for my mom, and need it working before I go home (which is 13 hrs away) does anyone have any ideas?

The laptop is only a month or two old and so far its acted up like this once before. I was able to fix it then but can't for the life of me remember how, pretty sure I just disabled/enabled the wireless in device manager and it started working again.

I was playing around on the internet earlier and for the most part it was fine. At times it would hang while loading a page, I assume because it temporarily lost connectivity, then would load the page as usual once it caught back up.

But then while playing Battlefield: Heroes the game started giving me "Problem With Your Connection" errors like mad. At first I chalked it up to the game but then realized it had been playing fine for the past two weeks until today (and as far as I can tell, there were no major updates over night).

So I turn the wifi on/off using A) the front switch B) the FN shortcut and C) going into device manager and disabling the hardware. None of these have done anything.

When I try to run Intel's included Manual Diagnostics tool it gets to 'Radio Test' and gives me the message "Software Radio is OFF." After a search on google I ended up at Intel's site and they suggest using either A) the task bar icon to turn the radio back on (do not have nor have ever seen th... Read more

You want the latest Intel driver from Toshiba's web site. Sometimes the motherboard or system manufacturer has to modify Intel's "raw" driver or software for system compatibility.

Do you have a LED (I think red on a Toshiba) that indicates whether the wireless is on or off? If so, is it changing when you toggle the switch?

Hello all,
I am having an issue with my wireless internet connection. It has worked well for 5 years, but a few days ago I suddenly lost connectivity. Checked the wireless switch on my Dell 1737 laptop, good. Replaced my Intel 5100 wireless card with a new one. It is not recognized by Device Manager, but the driver shows up under Control Panel, Programs. Tried just about everything. Do you think I am looking at an out of box hardware failure? I have checked and rechecked the seating and coaxial connectors to the new board. This one has me stumped. Any suggestions? Kind regards.

Hi, for a long time now I have been having problems with my wireless.  Every now and then, my wireless connection will just completely drop but only for a second or two.  This disrupts anything that I am trying to do (webpage loading, games, messenger applications, job application processes, etc) and I can't seem to isolate the problem.  Other people at home haven't told me of any sudden, short internet drops. I have the newest drivers according to the device manager and have updated most of the relevant drivers from the Lenovo website.  I am running windows 7 64 bit. Thanks if anyone can suggest where the problem is coming from

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

There have been a number of threads on here about those of us who have had serious problems keeping wireless connections up. People have had this with both W500s and W700s, so I decided to comment in one thread for both. In my own case my brand new factory fresh W500 (XP Pro) was dropping every 5 minutes requring a reset. I called Lenovo Support and they walked me through mutiple driver updates/reinstalls until we reached the point where the wireless quit working and in typical help desk fashion they threw up their hands and said "OS Wipe". So, back to factory fresh I went, and I started researching on my own. Several people on here had some luck turning off bits of the wireless functionality (such as disabling "N", Power Management, Packet Burst and other advanced features). That did help slightly, and the disconnects went from once every 5 minutes to once every 15 minutes or so, but still enough to make it unusable as a Work Machine which is supposed to be putting bread on the table not locking up in the middle of the most crucial operation. I really didn't want to go back to Lenovo Tech Support and start again going through the scripts for network repair because it's clear there's something fundamental going on here, and not something that can be solved by a help desk flow chart, and we all know that the help desk will read from the script until your ears bleed. I started casting my net wider, (Try google and Intel 5100 and 5300... Installing the latest Intel drivers as well as downloading new power management drivers on the IBM website http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG&velxr-la... eliminated virtually all of the "local only" connect and random drop out issues.  Power settings on the card were also changed to performance - highest, and roaming agressivness - lowest.  The only remaining issues as far as wireless goes are that 1) occasionally coming out of sleep mode the wireless card does not wake up.  Access Manager says it is on but there is no indicator light and it is not connecting to anything.  The second problem would appear to relate to the first as by turning the card off and on in Access Manager powers up the modem, it only connects locally and appears to not look for the WEP key in order to connect globally.  You need to disconnect, look for, and attach to your preferred network in order to see the world.  As an FYI, my W500 uses the Intel 5350 wireless card.  So, this is almost the way it is supposed to work but would like to hear any solution to problem #2.

Hi,  I just bought a T400 last month and installed Ubuntu Linux 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) last week. The kernel version is 2.6.27 (right now it is 2.6.27-11.27). Most parts works wonderfully for me, yet I keep getting problems with the wireless card. Last week and this week I got the computer crashing on me when I was doing wireless-related stuff (mainly to bring up the wireless interface). First problem (Feb 5, 2009)  I was waking the computer up from sleep (suspend) and trying to disable/enable wireless, etc.Don't remember what I did; perhaps Fn+F5 and other keys as well. The computer suddenly hung by itself, and caps lock light blinking. I had to turn off the computer by holding the power switch. After start, the wireless behaving strangely:* before "ifconfig wlan0 up", the wireless light is off* after "ifconfig wlan0 up", the wireless light is on* after "ifconfig wlan0 down", the wireless light is off -- never like this before! Wireless light is usually always on all the time unless we press the Fn+F5 key.* connection to my wireless ESSID network is not working.* But in Vista the wireless connection is fine!* reboot with Linux doesn't help.I thought I was doomed for the wireless in linux. But when I used the hardware switch to turn off the wireless and turned it on again, the wireless suddenty worked again! But the wireless light behavior (turning off when I brought down the network interface) persists.  The second error (Feb 9, 2009)  I ... Read more

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

Answer:Malfunctioning wireless network adapter (Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG)

I have similar experience too, but malfunction only happens when I am trying to connect to my school network which is WPA2-enterprise or WPA-enterprise. My wireless seems to work fine at home with WPA-personal. All other laptops work fine (so it is my laptop). The signal is fine because it register 100% strength. Basically, mine works for a few minutes, then it starts malfunctioning (school network only). During malfunction, it cannot detect any wireless network (even those that aren't WPA-enterprise). When it can detect wireless network again, it may or may not be able to reconnect to the school network.

Hello,

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U330p laptop, and I've tried to replace the wireless network card on this model from the Intel 7260 N to an Intel 7260 AC. But the hell did I get for it, because when I started up the computer, I got an error that caused your computer could not boot.

I have checked this error message on Google search and on some online forums on the internet and it seems that you at Lenovo have added to the list in the BIOS / UEFI called 'white list' that controls the hardware of your computer based on a list where products is the = Approved, and products that are not on the list = Non Approved / Blocked for this model and make that you can not upgrade their computer needed the drivers are the same as the original Intel 7260 N, the only thing that prevents me from Upgrade my computer's 'White List' and should be removed from off the BIOS so that the end user can upgrade their computer without having to buy a new computer for the 700-1100 dollars, when a new network card only cost 25 dollars.

Question: Intel 5100 AGN

I have an ASUS U81A laptop (Win 7 Home) with the Intel 5100 AGN wireless chip in it. Two days ago the wireless refused to turn on. The hotkeys to turn it on display the usual "tower" icon for the wireless but wont turn it on. In the last day I have completely reset my computer with the F9 reset and I have also reinstalled all the drivers for the chip as well as the ASUS wireless console 3 utility and the ATK driver for the hotkeys. As recommended in another post by another member I installed the Xirrus WiFi Inspector. When trying to hit the enable button it says it enables it but the card is still not on and won't detect networks. Also the device manager recognizes that the card is there. I'm at a loss of what to do next. I heard that some people have had luck covering pin 20 on the card with clear tape (supposedly that is the pin that controls the on/off capability forcing the card always on). Has anyone had luck with this?

Hi, I recently installed Windows 7 and I have been experiencing slow internet speed ever since.  I have already updated the drivers for both network adapters (Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN ver 12.4 1.4 and the Intenl 82567LF Gigabet Network Connection ver 10.0.2.2).  I used to be able to recieve 6mb/s for downloads, but now it has been reduced to less than 1 mb/s. Here is my speed test:  http://www.speedtest.net/result/616886714.png  Are there other drivers or software that I need to update to get my speed back? Thanks

Answer:T400 Intel 5100 AGN help!

Probably completely unrelated but maybe not... I just put a test install of Win 7 Pro 64 on my T400 w/Intel 5100.  It was running Vista Biz 64 and working fine with my Linksys N router.  With '7 it wouldn't see the router most of the time, would occasionally see it and associate sometimes, and always drop in a few seconds. The "fix" was to enable QoS in the router.  Absolutely no idea why. Z.

just bought the SL500 and am not sure why the connection speed is so shotty. i'm connecting to a LINKSYS WRT54GX4 802.11g @2.4ghz. the max i'm getting outta this connection is 54Mbps but usually much less...20Mbps or less. this router is capable of 100Mbps on 802.11g 2.4ghz and i connect at this speed with my wireless PCI adapter (same make and model) 5 floors away in my desktop. am i limited to these speeds on 802.11g?? thanks...m

Answer:Intel AGN 5100 thru-put on SL500

My connection speed problems are far far worse. I have an old Buffalo bg AP, and it's very strange. I get good responsiveness on accessing web pages, but speeds of 2.5kbps on downloading files. Any clues? I tried disabling n, I tried a whole bunch of different settings on the WLAN device, but I can not get anywhere close to reasonable download speeds. Is it a conflict between Access Connections, and Windows Network Control? It kind of feels that way, but I'm not done investigating yet.

Question: intel 5100 on t500

So it seems the adapter is acting up.  It sees networking n linux it refuses to obtain an ip adress.  Windows 7 sees the network will connect sometimes but has a slooooooow connection and sometimes won't load the page.  Other times it won't connect.  I use another computer on same network and the internal adapter works fine.  It seem's other people are reporting the same problem. Has anybody heard of this problem or have a possible fix?

I've been reading other similar posts for weeks and I still haven't found a permanent solution. I updated my Intel 5100 drivers to the latest (13.0.0.107) and have tried ALL previous ones. I still am having BIG issues with my connection to the linksys router. Yes I have it set to maximum performance, yes I've tried disabling IPV6, and I still have gotten nowhere. It connects normally through wire and other laptops connect flawlessly on wifi.

Also, I'm having problems with power management. First, when I put my laptop to sleep or hibernate, it never prompted me for the login password even though the option was on. Then I tried disabling and re-enabling it which I believe solved the problem. And when I change one of the plan options, like changing the "turn screen off" time and "dim screen" time and "put to sleep" time, the changes never apply (maybe they do after a reboot). When I close t he screen lid, sometimes it goes to sleep, other times it hibernates, and sometimes it just freezes. It's been one hell of an experience with Win 7 and this is already the RTM, so can anyone PLEASE tell me what's going on?

Thank you for you help, and sorry for the long post

Answer:Intel 5100 Limited Connection. When will this end?

Hello! I have a R500 Series ThinkPad with the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter. The driver for the card has been updated as of today (September 7, 2010). I have a D-Link DIR 655 WiFi router (replacing an old Linksys 54g WiFi router). The firmware of the router has also been updated today. I'm running the router under the WPA-2 standard with AES cipher type, channel width of 40 Mhz on 802.11n mode only with auto channel scan (just as Intel is recommanding). I also followed Intel indications for the WiFi card. Problem is : the laptop just can't connect to the WiFi network...? I tried all sort of things, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Note that when I tried  to use the router under WPA with TKIP and AES as cipher type, the laptop was able to connect at the slow 54 Mbps rate. Thanks.

I have a Sony Vaio with intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter & Vista OS.

The problem I have is that 9 times out of 10 it will not connect to my home or office wireless network. Eventually it does, though only after switching the adapter on and off several times or rebooting the machine. Sometimes I also have to restart the wireless router.

It will always seem to connect in that I get the connected icon in the notification area (though often without the internet globe symbol) though it will not connect to the net or to any other machine or printer on the network.

Some other useful info:
Both the home and office routers are the same model (Comtrend) and both work fine with other PC's

I often have bluetooth problems also - can take a while for bluetooth to start (I use a bluetooth mouse) and I have 3 unknown bluetooth peripheral devices in device manager

I have McAfee internet security installed

I have tried:
Disabling the firewall
Removing and readding the wireless and bluetooth devices
Disabling IPv6
Driver & OS update
A clean install

Nothing has resoved this issue which is becoming a pain as I can now spend up to half an hour each time trying to connect.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Recently, my Intel Wifi 5100 has stopped working on windows. For no appearant reason, Windows decided that my Wifi card is not good enough to be read. When i open my Device Manager, my Ethernet port shows up, but the Wifi card does not. The wierd part is that the Wifi card gets read in "Splashtop" which came on my laptop. I can use Wifi on the Linux bases OS, but not windows. I've tried installing all drivers, but Windows refuses to acknowledge the presence of my card. Any clue on how to fix this?

Answer:Serious Intel Wifi 5100 problem

Hey, welcome to Vista Forums!
Assuming the wireless card is removable, you could try re-seating the wireless card, also, you could take the card out, and boot, then shut down, and put the card back in, then boot and see if it made any difference.

If it's not removable, check to make sure any wireless switches are turned on.

Please post back with what you have tried, or even if you managed to fix the problem and how!
Hope this helps,
Daniel

I have a u350 w/ windows 7 and I'm getting poor wifi speed, packet loss, and disconnections. I have a good Cisco AP (802.11g) that works well with my two other laptops.  Typically sitting side by side, the other laptops will be at 54 or 48 mbps and will download a 700mb file about twice as fast from a local file server.  I've had the ap and other laptops for months and never got disconected in my own house before, but I have lost signal multiple times with the u350. I also bought a crappy linksys wrt610n to go with the new u350, none of my other devices support N so I set this thing up exclusively for the u350.  I typically get speeds anywhere from 2-5mbps on the N AP but sometimes as high as 24mbps.  I've played with various settings on the AP such as 5ghz only, 2.4ghz, or both at the same time, but it's pretty crappy and slower than G every time. Because I have the two APs, and the other laptops, I'm pretty sure it's just the u350 that's screwed up.  Forgetting the 802.11n, I would be happy if I could use the u350 with my Cisco G without getting disconnected and dropping packets left and right. Is it possible I have a bad wi-fi card or could it be just a software problem?  I've tried both the lenovo driver and the newer intel/microsoft one and they both have this issue.

Answer:Wifi connectivity with intel 5100 AGN

Hi -

The Intel 5100 is one of the best wifi's available. I have one in this system and it performs flawlessly.

I think you'll find McAfee to be the problem here. I suggest that you remove it. Download the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Make sure that you have the most recent Intel 5100 wifi driver. Go to Intel's site -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=3062

You can check your system manufacturer's site, but I have found they are ususlly 8-12 months behind.

Hi all, I'm having issues with the wifi in my SL400. Some days, the Fn+F5 program won't see it at all, and I'll have to turn it on via Mobility Center, or it will see it. If and when I do turn it on to connect to a network, I can't access the internet. Is there any solution to this, or do I have a dodgy wifi card? Cheers, Douglas

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

So let's start at the beginning.  Whenever I recieved my T400 a couple of days ago, I immediatly could not get the network card to work correctly.  By that, I mean I could not connect to the internet through my wireless network.  After some snooping around on this site and the internet, I discovered that the ThinkVantage software could be to blame. I unistalled the ThinkVantage software, and updated to Intel's latest driver.  This helped;  I can atleast get on the internet now.  However, it is very shoddy.  Whenever I am connected, I am fine.  Getting connected is sometimes the problem.  Generally, whenever the system boots, I only have a "Local" network connection.  After a series of Window's diagnostic  runs, I can usually get it to connect to the internet.  A couple of times, just letting the computer sit for a while will get it to connect.   To add to the problem, most of time after the computer awakes from sleep mode, the internet connection is gone.   I love the laptop except for the wireless problem.  Please help. Thanks.

Answer:Internet connectivity Problems with Intel 5100

Also, the internet connection cuts out while I am browsing.  What is strange is, the little globe on the network connection will go away.  Whenever I run a diagnostic, it pings out just fine and the little globe pops back up.  However, whenever I try and go to a webpage, nothing happens, I get an error saying the server is down, and the little globe goes away.  I may run this cycle 3 or 4 times before the internet acutally comes back on.

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

My computer is running on Windows 7 Professional 32bit. It has worked fine for the last 2 years. But recently, my wifi card has started me giving me problems. It detects the wireless networks but connects to them only for around 10-15 minutes after which the connection is not even visible in the list. Then after 30-40 minutes, it can connect but the same problem is there.

Also, I tried to make my own ad-hoc connections and saved them. These connections do work and my friends are able to connect to it and the connection remained active for hours. I did it to check whether the Wifi card is working or not. It does work but only with the outgoing connections that are made by my computer. The networks that in range and are giving problem with my wifi card are working fine for my friends. So, I guess it is not the network's problem.

When I tried troubleshooting it, it gave the problem 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point'. I also tried installing all different driver versions and rollbacking to the default version for my wireless card but the same problem is there. Although in device manager, It says the device is working properly.

Please help me in solving this problem. Exact name of WiFi Card in Device Manager- Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

I purchased a T400 (which I LOVE so far) but like a fool, didn't opt for the 5300 3x3 WiFi for $15 more... after some post purchase research, I'd much rather have the extra antennae's for picking up those barely in wifi signals around my house.   Does anyone know if the 5300 card can simply be plugged in to replace the 5100?  It all comes down to whether the 3 antennae's are installed on ALL models, with the connectors ununsed when a laptop comes with the 5100.  Anyone know the answer to this? Regards,-Owen

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

Hello,         Im interested to use of WWAN in my laptop, My is Thinkpad T400, having with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN.  please guide me with process accesing the simcard slot in laptop. Waiting for your reply. With Regards  Santhosh

Answer:Regarding using wwan in T400 with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

I recently got married and my husband and I now have two computers. I want to hook up to his cable modem. I already had a wireless network that I had purchased some time ago. Both the receivers/transmitters plugged into USB ports. So I stuck em in. They both lit up and are connected correctly but I had to install software. He has WinXP Home and I have WinXP Pro. When I put the CD in either computer to install it said that we have Windows NT and that it's not compatible with NT. I personally happen to know that we DON'T have NT. I realize XP runs on the same format that NT/2000 do/did, but the CD says it's compatable with XP. I was just wondering if anyone knew another way to install these things. I saw a router that was only 50 bucks but I'd rather just get what I have to work. On a related question, I know to connect the cable modem to the router, but what sort of cable do I use to connect the PC's to the router and where can I get it?

Thanks.

Hi i have three computers a desktop and two laptops at the moment i am using a dial up connection and intel wireless network adapters on phoning bt to enquire about broadband they asked me what my system was and on hearing about my wireless network they are not sure which package i would require could anyone tell me if broadband is compatible with my wireless network adapters and system any help would be most appreciated as bt seem to know absolutely nothing about the matter or even a different provider who wuold know what they are doingthank you in anticipation

Answer:Using bt broadband with intel wireless network

You can use a BT line with a wireless network, I do. What is your current network setup ?I would advise that you buy a wireless ADSL router with built in modem, so that all computers can have simultaneous internet access. I'm not sure how good BT's equipment is but I'm pretty sure that it is likely to cost you alot more than buying your own.

Hello everyone,

It is my first thread on this forum and I want to thank you because you indirectly help me so many times.

I just installed new bios 1.25 on my notebook because of usb issues. Everything works fine but suddenly my wifi device stops working on windows 7.
It is well installed, the connection under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections is enabled, but It doesn't see any WiFi spot.

It is not a device hardware problem because it works under ubuntu.

I tried all the usual ways: reinstall drivers etc but nothing happens.

I don't want to reinstall my OS because I'll have too many settings to restore after.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone who fixed it?

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

i slapped on vista ultimate 32, the intel 5100 will be in device manager without any problems.  the only for me to get the blue led to light up again is to do a uninstall in device manager and reboot.  vista will then detect new hardware and reintall the wifi all over again.  this does work but to do it every week suck.  i dont want to buy a new internal or external card either.  this happen to anyone else?

Answer:Y430 intel 5100, blue wifi led doesn't come on. Not fn + f5 problem either.

To clarify, the wireless works, but the blue LED doesn't and the fix you described only temporarily fixes it?  Have you installed all the other drivers as well; the ones located on the d:/ drive?

Dear all,  About 2 years ago i upgraded my win 7 to win 10 version and wirelss stopped working. this problem is well known. Many attempts with netsh id config, reset IP, reinstall drivers, trough a USB whatever, nothing worked. I must conclude that the intel WIFI 5100 driver is incompatible with windows 10. I cannot anymore revert my win 10 upgrade sadly.  My question is whether i can install an older version or another driver type that is compatible on windows 10 ??? if so i would gladly have the driver link or zip file posted  Thanks PS, also my touchpad scrolling feature stopped working, i dont know if this could be related, just in case it could help figuring out where the problem is but i guess its just incompatibility.

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

(Leap Authorization is used)03) Removed and replaced the Wireless Card. FRU 43Y6943. We are using Windows Xp with SP 2.  The laptop runs fine and we have no complaints with the exception of the wireless.  I might mention that we had the same issue with T61 Models.  To resolve this issue, we removed the B/G/N card and installed B/G cards.  We do not utilize "N" Band, so we do not need this capability.  I was looking for a way to do the same to the T400 Laptops, but I am unable to find a compatible B/G card to use.  The BIOS generates the 1082 error if we attempt to use a card that is not approved for the model.  Any assistance would be appreciated... Thanks. This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

Takenote that you can't just replace the card with the same model number without complying with the indicated fru number. Doing so, will result to a error message at startup. This restriction is popularly called as the whitelist. An alternative to the desired wireless communication between your TV and your unit is to have ChromeCast. You might want to explore this since this is easier compared to the replacement of the wifi card.

Problem : connection drops in speeed all the time

I have updated to the latest driver for my 2200BG adapter and the latest firmware for my netgear dg834g router but i still suffer drops in connection. This happens when I am playing online games such as FEAR. I will go into a game and for about 2 minutes the ping will be stable at 35-60 (occasionally jumping to 200) but after about 2-3 minutes the ping starts to rocket to 400, then to 800 then into the 1000's region and i suffer from major packet loss. The intel software says my connection is "very good" and power management is set to maximum and i dont have any radio interferences around my laptop (apart from radio in next room which is usually off). Ive tried various "fixes" like changing to g only and changing the channel etc. on various forums but it just doesnt work.

yes i have seen the other thread, but its 51 pages and most of it isnt relevant to me!! Please help me.. im just a poor man trying to get by and this is how i get treated

Answer:intel pro wireless 2200BG network card HELP

Do you get the same problems with a wired connection? May be an issue with your router and not the wifi adapter.. A good trick is to open a command prompt and start pinging your router from there (a la "ping -t 192.168.1.1"). Play the game until the game ping skyrockets. See if the router ping times went up too.

Try disabling/uninstalling any software firewalls you have.

I have an Intel Wireless Network that I have had for about 6 months. I have my desktop as my server and my laptop as my client. The desktop is running XP and the laptop, ME. I have a DSL connection also. It has been running flawlessly up until I had to reformat my laptop AND my desktop. Bad luck you might say. Before this my laptop would surf the net almost as fast as the desktop. Now, after reinstalling everything and updating all the drivers back to where they were, the laptop surfs the net slower than a 56k connection! I have been back and forth with Intel via email and nothing they say to try helps. I have manually put in IP addresses and gateways on both PC's and uninstalled unnecessary networking components in windows. What would cause this to happen just by reformatting. Both PC's are in the same place as they were before. Nothing has changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Every time I boot up my laptop (OS: Win XP), I have to manually enter network security key for wireless connection. Once connected, the connection stays on. It's not a big inconvenience but it's getting annoying. Couple of days back I had virus attack (frmwrk32.exe). I immediately cleaned the virus and increased McAfee security to max. The wireless problem started after that. I know McAfee in max security mode needs to be told which applications to be regarded as safe. May be it's McAfee but I am not sure. Does anyone know how to permanantly store security key in an Intel PROset profile?

Answer:Intel PROSet wireless does not remember network key

First thing to try is crank back the McAfee settings to see if that is the issue. If so, you'll have to configure it to allow the Intel utility the proper permissions. For a test, you can simply disable McAfee to see what happens after a reboot.

Next, you can consider uninstalling the Intel client totally and reinstalling it to see if that sorts things out.

ALso, you might consider using Windows WZC to manage the network connection, maybe it has a better memory than the Intel utility.

The wireless card is switched on ? Possibly FN+F2Check your WEP/WPA encryption key.OR:go to the host pc and control panel, select the wireless network setup wizard and follow the prompts. You will need a flash drive or memory card and reader. This will carry over all the settings from the host pc to the laptop.

I'm attempting to create a home wireless network. Hardware: Dell Dimension 8100, 3COM 10/100 network card, Qwest DSL web connection through an internal Intel Pro 2200 modem, Microsoft ME, etc.

My problem is that the Intel Pro 2200 does not have an RJ45 connector on the card, only an RJ11. All access point-type devices that I've seen require an ethernet connection. Can I use my network card to "redirect" my Internet connection from the Intel modem to the 3COM network card (which contains an ethernet port), and connect to an access point device???

Qwest tells me to buy the Actionec 1520 as the workaround...

Thanks,
RedRiver...

Answer:Intel Pro 2200 DSL Modem and Wireless Network

I don't know how well it would work to try to redirect the output of the card, if it were me, I'd bite the bullet and buy the external modem with the Ethernet connection.

Since Quest offers both, why won't they swap you for the correct device?

I want to change my Atheros wi-fi network card with this  Intel AC 7260. Somebody can tell my if i need to upgrade my BIOS for my model to install this card?

Answer:Wireless Intel AC 7260 network card

We need the full model number but updating the BIOS will not enable the use of any additional wireless cards. HP did in the past use a whitelist which dictates that you can only use certain specific models and the relevant question is whether your laptop is pre- or post- whitelist. Generally the cutoff is around January 1, 2014 as the build date.

Acer Aspire 5930g laptop with Intel 5100 WiFi adapter. Been testing Win 10 Tech Preview, switched off WiFi via built-in system switch and since than it completely disappeared from the laptop. Which means when I press WiFi button on the laptop there's no light, the adapter itself is missing from the system ? even in hidden devices. But all the other buttons (Bluetooth, browser) work well. I've tried switching back to Win7, running WinXP from LiveCD, various Linux distribs ? no result. Tried other adapters (all of them Intel), it didn't help. Actually the system found Intel WiFi/WiMAX, but only WiMAX drivers were installed. Tried flashing BIOS, also didn't help. Been advised to install native ACPI utility with hardware buttons drivers. While trying to find it I stumbled upon a software called Acer Drivers Update Utility. It's a third-party software which scans devices and proposes to download driver updates for them. For some money.Yet while scanning it found the card (at least, listed it among devices). When I was scanning the laptop was connected via LAN, and after scanning Windows notificated about installing some bridge and PCI drivers. The button was working, and so was the WiFi card. The next day, when I opened my laptop (as far as I remember, I didn't switch it off then), WiFi disappeared again. I've tried reinstalling the system and repeat the "magic" with Update Utilty, but failed. Of course, I've tried force-installing the driver... Read more

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... I have a W500 4058-CTO under windows 7.  Wireless N support working well at 145Mb/s on average.  It was being somewhat flaky when I docked/undocked about turning off the wireless radio.  I updated to the latest drivers from Lenovo, big mistake.  It installed the following on an update: Access Connections:  v5.61Intel wireless driver: v13.01.1000 Rebooted and now the wireless refuses to connect to the N network (using a Netgear WNR3500L).  If I change the netgear down to WPA-PSK with TKIP, then it connects in G mode.  Setting the netgear to WPA-PSK[TKIP} + WPA2-PSK [AES} and setting the W500 wireless to WPA2-PSK [AES] fails to connect and provides me this fine error: Dynamic key exchange did not succeed within configured time My original configuration on the W500 before the update was WPA2-PSK [AES].  I removed/re-installed the Intel & Access Connections drivers/software.  Same situation.  Note that if I set my router to G and the W500 to WPA-PSK with TKIP it connects at 54mb fine.  'Course, that isn't making full use of my network. Anyone have an idea on how to resolve this?

Answer:W500 with Intel 3500 wireless not connecting to N network

Try this: In Windows:Go into your power options (Control Panel - Power Options)There are 3 options: Balanced, Power Saver and (may be hidden) High Performance.Either choose High Performance (there's no Save or Ok; it changes immediately) and try connecting againorchoose either of the other plans and click "Change plan settings" and the "Change advance power settings". Scroll down, if necessary, to "Wireless Adapter Settings" and click on the + to view the "Power Saving Mode". Click the + again to reveal the options for "On battery" and "Plugged in". For both, choose 'Maximum Performance'. Any of the other three options ('Low', 'Medium' and 'Maximum Power Savings') may cause this issue.Let me know if that helps.

I am using Windows XP. Yesterday the wireless network connection icon in the task bar in the bottom right hand corner of my laptop turned to a completely black square. Today it appears normal except when I click on it to see the list of avalable wireless networks, the list doesn't appear. I am connected to the internet and am using a Linksys wireless router and I have it listed as my preferred network to which it connects automatically. I have not changes anything on my laptop and I would like to get the list of networks back.

Windows 7 XPS laptop. Connects to the wireless network just fine. However, when I suspend or put the laptop into hibernation it never reconnects. I take the lpatop out of hibernation and it shows a red x through the network icon. I have to try and manually reconnect, and then I just get the spinning blue thing over the network connections without it ever reconnecting. I restart...........no problem. I have a bunch of otehr PC's and devices on my home network. I have tried 2 different routers, same problem. None of the other laptops on the network have this problem. This laptop did not have this problem last month. Nothing changed. Hoe do I start de-bugging this

SwampyYankee. You might want to check the power settings on your wireless network adapter. On most there is a setting to turn the power off to save energy when the OS determins that it is not being used, like in hibernate.

I have a 2.5 year old Thinkpad T60 running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3.  Recently, I have not been able to enable/disable the Intel(R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection through the "normal" Open Network Connections enable/disable function. When I try, I get an error " It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. The connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug-n-play, or it may have been initiated by another user or system account"  The only way I can enable/disable the Wireless Connection is through the Windows Device Manager. I have already tried various combinations of driver updates, device removal/re-install and rebooting the computer to reset settings. I have also tried to reset my Windows start settings to their default values. Nothing works.  I suspect this issue is related to a Lenovo utility that interacts with the Wireless Network Connection, but not sure if which driver to update.  I back up my computer on a regular basis and run McAfee anti-virus. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
