I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I turn on the computer about twenty minutes is quiet. Than fan starts like a hurricane, slows down and stops. It lasts few seconds. The fan works in this way regularly with one minute intervals.
Is there any possibility to switch the fan on continuous work in slow motion?

Answer:Satellite L20-182: fan doesn't work properly - one minute intervals

If you go to toshiba power saver you should be able to turn your up or down. Once you open this program from control panel, you have the option to change how much your processor runs as well as how much your cooling modules work. Turning either one down will make the fan not come on as much. Then you might want to try and use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air intake grills to clean any dust that could be clogging it up. Dust can make the fan run more because the lack of cool, fresh air entering the system to cool the cpu. Hope this helps.

When the power button is pushed the power and wireless lights come on, the fan whirs for a moment then nothing more happens. If I take out the battery and leave it for 30 mins then it boots fine when the power button is pushed. Currently away from home, but have internet access.

Running Windows 7.

Any and all suggestions welcomed!

Answer:Satellite T110-107 - Reboot doesn't work properly

Hi buddy,

Since when do you notice this problem and have you changed something on hardware configuration?

It?s hard to say why it happens but fact is it must be a hardware issue? Have you installed newest BIOS version for Satellite T110? You can download it on official Toshiba website: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

But before you start the update, close all running programs (also AntiVirus and Firewall).

Sorry in advance for my poor level in english because im french ...

My p200-1de has a strange problem :

Every day when i start a new session, it work fine (booting until the desktop) and i start to work.
After 5-10 min, windows vista (ultimate) freeze and i need to stop/reboot many time to finally success and boot until the desktop.
Sometime i need to boot in safe mode without network and wait on desktop for 5 min

It seems like some part or piece of the notebook need to be hot to work fine (something twisted maybe)

I cleaned with dry air the fans windows without improvements. I bought new memories from toshiba in france and the problem is still there. The hard disks are ok (scanned and tested)

The warranty is ended last january so ...

Does someone have any idea?

Answer:Satellite P200 freezes after 5-10 min and need multiple reboot to work fine

Try installing the latest Windows Updates.
If not I'd suggest you do a CLEAN install. If your laptop came with a DVD disc labelled "Windows Anytime Upgrade", then use that and download the drivers from the Toshiba Website. If it asks you for a product key, there should be one underneath your laptop.

If not, then use the recovery discs that came with your laptop.

AV-Avast Home (uninstalled upgraded to latest version)
Firewall-Sygate Pro (uninstalled upgraded to latest version)

Problem 1: XP Home reboots in the 3+ minute range. Once it gets to the 'Starting Windows XP' screen, it loads fine. Some damnthing is hanging.

Problem 2: MY comp is running slow. Expeciially on the net. Task manager is reporting no excess network use. IE 6 acts like it's on a 56k modem. I use Mozilla FireFox, which runs fine, but my wife is a IE 6 fanatic. Shareaza and WinMX load slowly and take a minute or more to change tabs. BitTornado (latest versions all) loads and runs fine, but seems to hang after an hour or so. It stops updating speeds, seeds, peers, etc. It also closes slowly. Once I get online, the comp slams on the brakes. Mozilla is the only app that seems unaffected. Sygate is also logging a lot of portscans. 7 in the in the last hour or so. All from the same IP address. I've tried a reboot to get a new IP adress, but the port scans start up agan after about an hour, last about an hour then stop. So far I've resisted the urge to backrace since it'll only egg the @$$hole on.....though if anyone has an ICBM I could use..........

NOTE I read the rules and I'm not asking for help with my P2P apps. Just mentioning them since they are affected. I installed the other ones since BT was acting flakey... Read more

Hi! Had good results with this forum; back again!Working on my nephew's computer, I noticed Google searches were being redirected. Microsoft didn't catch the initial problem so I ran Malwarebytes and Eset Online scanner which found and clean some problems. Rebooted. Microsoft Security Essentials found Sirefef trojan, cleaned and rebooted. Now every I boot the computer it says it will "restart automatically in one minute" (both safe and normal mode)OS is VistaAV is MSEAdvanced Boot options does NOT give me "Repair you computer" optionI do not have the Windows installation disk, although it might be possible to find with a lot of hunting. Please help!(As an aside, the reason I went to my nephew's computer was to check on the router... On my laptop my Symantec Endpoint Protection was giving me popups that it a "port scan attack is logged" coming from the router. Since it was being blocked I figured I would use the other computer to view router's admin page.)

Answer:Sirefef (one minute reboot)

I booted to safe mode and brought up the task manager with a CTRL-ALT-DEL at the first opportunity. I used the processes tab to locate the MSI process and ended it. This allowed me to run DDS and GMER to get the following logs.

I have a several month old Dell Dimension 4600 running WinXP Home, with dual monitors, which runs great, I'm happy. If I have to reboot for some reason, everything shuts down fine, but system shows the F2/ F12 screen briefly, then goes to black screen with the underline cursor
for 5 minutes! After 5 minutes, the HD kicks in, XP loads normally and everything runs fine. Scanning through the various BIOS setup items, Fast Boot is on, system is set to boot from C: first, then CD; and there dont seem to be any "weird" or obviously wrong settings of any kind. Any suggestions?
I have also run msconfig and gone though turning off start up programs, etc. but once loading XP begins, everything runs fine, just takes 5 minutes to start...

I have been beating my head against the wall with this one.
Just got a Gateway E-9520T for a customer. We spent the last week configuring it, installing updates, etc--but it's pretty much vanilla Windows Server 2003 R2 32-bit with exchange 2003. We haven't installed any of their customer applications yet.

During the setup and testing we did everything from leaving it on at night, to shutting down over night, rebooting, etc...

A few days ago it suddenly started taking around 30 minutes to boot and 30 minutes to shutdown.

During the startup/shutdown the RAID array is going crazy. Tons of file access.
When starting up it performs POST correctly, starts booting Windows (2003 Server Logo, with the little scroll thing at the bottom), and then the screen flashes like it's about to switch to graphical mode. But it hangs there with a blank screen for 30ish minutes.

The morning this started we hadn't installed any new drivers, updates, applications, or anything. Just fired the box up.

Gateway thought it might have been the MegaRAID card, so they sent a new one. No change. MegaRAID says their latest firmware fixes an issue that sounds like this problem. Updated the MegaRAID firmware, and it's still taking forever to boot.

What I've done:
Waited forever for the system to come up, rollback driver updates for the RAID card. (no effect)
Booted off Gateway's recovery CD (at their request) and used it to reinstall the factory default drivers. (no effec... Read more

Just this afternoon, I went to use my PC and got the following error; Windows has experienced a critical error and will restart in 1 minute.

Running Windows 7 64 bit....With automatic updates so it should be the latest version of Windows...

My anti virus (Avira 2012 Internet Suite) pops up and states I have 2 viruses. But before the AV can do anything (delete the files) Windows shuts down....I finally got into Safe Mode and tried running my AV, while it was scanning I then got a BSOD. Had to start all over again; Running MalwareBytes now before trying to do the AV scan, just to see if MalwareBytes catches anything.

I have uninstalled the only application I've installed in 3 months, and problem still persists...

I have a Hijackthis log if it needs to be viewed...Just let me know and I'll upload it.

Answer:Windows has a critical error and will reboot in 1 minute

when you get the 1 minute warning, try typing from the start menu "shutdown -a" or "shutdown /a", and the countdown should go away, and you should be able to remove the viruses.

Be sure to disable your system restore backups (delete them), or the viruses may come back. Re-enable them as soon as you are sure you have gotten rid of the viruses.

I have a lenovo ideapady400 that is now almost 2 months old. Earlier today, I noticed that it did not properly go into hibernate when I shut it. The keyboard was still lit up, with no LCD display (including not if I hit Fn+F2) and with the fan at high rpms. I shut it down by holding the powerbutton, and upon rebooting it, it took over 4 minutes to get back to the desktop. It now requires the 4 minutes every time I restart, and it never goes into hibernate with the lid closed (it must be shut down by the power button).Fearing that the computer may be having a serious issue, I tried to make a backup with Onekey recovery, which failed to write a backup (repeatedly). It returned an error saying it couldn't access the partition. I then uninstalled onekey recovery, downloaded it again from the lenovo website. Now when I run onekey recovery it says my system is not able to write a backup.I am now stuck in a tough spot of not being able to backup my laptop and and not being able to do a recovery without losing everything. On the lenovo support site, when I select startup issues, the feedback it gives me is "Thank you for your question. This is a known problem and a solution is being developed. Please check back for updates."Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the main (shutdown/startup) issue? As the laptop is under warranty, should I just send it back to Lenovo?

Answer:ideapad y400 won't shutdown/4 minute reboot

hi hansweeks,
If you PC came with a HDD+SSD drive, try to boot into the BIOS (by repeatedly pressing F2 on startup) and check if both the HDD and SSD are detected (if you're missing one, that HDD might be faulty and needs to be replaced.
If both HDD's are detected (or if your PC came with only a SATA HDD) try to run an HDD diagnostic. Try HD Tune to run HDD error checking in WIndows or create a bottable HDD diagnostic (see steps below).
1. Download the the UBCD ISO
2. Burn the ISO using imgburn
3. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
4. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD
To burn the diagnostic software on a flashdrive, follow this guide
If you find any errors, you will need send the unit to Lenovo for service. Support phone list here.
For data backup, you can copy / paste your files on a USB flashdrive / hard drive or use this software to clone your hard drive.
Hope this helps

So ever since I upgraded to a GeForce GTX 460, I've been getting these ~1min long freezes every time my PC just finished loading Windows (either after a cold boot or reboot).

What could be causing this?

EDIT: This didn't happen to me with my old Radeon HD 5770.

Answer:Windows freezes for over ~1 minute after each cold boot/reboot

I would suspect a driver issue fist thing. Check here for the July 2010 version: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

came home to see windows telling me it needs to reboot due to a recent update. upon reboot I noticed it was sitting there at the animated windows logo prior to the logon screen. the numlock led on the keyboard was stuck so I reset the computer with no change. I then tried safe mode with also no luck. I reset once more and did some googling for quick solutions and about 5 minutes later the computer goes to the logon screen. this is repeatable. i ran a chkdsk /r /f with no change. im not quite sure what to check from here but something is definitely wrong when I go from a 10 second start time to 5 minutes. any ideas?

Answer:how to troubleshoot 5 minute bootup (prev 10s) after win update reboot

Hello and welcome Kevin mate if you can get safe mode which I am assuming of course do a system restore to as far back as you like and then it is just a matter of installing updates until one finds the offender and then you just hide it so it doesn't bother you again. (Right click on it and pick Hide)

If yo are not offered may restore points click on the box for further back ones see pic but I suspect you know about this option

Hi everybody,

After searching on the internet and doing some disk assignment tweaks, i still can't find a solution for my problem.

My w10 was running fine every day when all of a sudden my pc got really slow. When clicking on the start menu it sometimes doesnt load and a reboot/shut down takes 5 minutes before something happens. Also loading the file explorer takes forever and when finished loading it won't show examples of files like jpg's and png's.

I guess it is a problem with w10 because the ssd where my w10 is installed is only 2 months old. Do you guys have any solution? I need my pc for work, so i'm really trying to find a solution.

Answer:W10 too slow to work with after a minute of 5

run this few things from Command prompt (As Administrator) first:
sfc /scannow
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
To make sure there's no system corruption.
At disk properties, under tools , you'll find Error checking > Check, that should check file integrity.
Did you run any AV checks maybe and Malwarebytes too ?

sfc /scannow
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
To make sure there's no system corruption.
At disk properties, under tools , you'll find Error checking > Check, that should check file integrity.
Did you run any AV checks maybe and Malwarebytes too ?

So I run a p4 3.0, 896 ram and 512 kbps dsl windows xp

I live in greece so I use OTE as my ISP with a speedtouch modem.

My problem is, my internet will work for a few pages when I first open the browser and then when I try to open a new page (that im sure exists) it just pretends like its trying to open it but just sitting there using none of the network speed. (im sure this is the case as I've turned off everthing else including my anti-virus and whanot to test this)

the weird thing is that when i copy link location, close all instances of the browser, reopen the browser and paste the link that wasnt working just a moment ago. it works? It's some weird connection between my browser or ISP and the internet.

please please please someone know what to do!

Answer:browser has to be reopened to work after a minute or so

Well i think that you coulds try installing the drivers for the moderm or repair them. You could also try and download internet explorer and when the installtion wizards starts you should try repair, this should repair any erros or missing files, or if you still have the windows xp disc, you should try and install it again, this should also fix any errors and missing files BUT IF YOU DO THAT REMEMEBER TO BACK-UP TOUR FILES BECAUSE THEY WILL BE LOST AND YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO INSTALL ALL YOUR PROGRAMS BACK ON

hope this helps, please reply gd luck

I'm using a Satellite L30 laptop. One thing I am finding annoying is that the fan kicks in quite loudly every minute or so, then quietens down for a while. Using a temperature monitor it looks like the fan kicks in when the temperature rises above about 50, then slows down as it falls. When the temperature is below 45 the fan stops altogether which causes the temperature to quickly rise back above 50.

I want to change the power management settings so that the fan stays on quitely at lower temperatures. I have a desktop computer where it is possible to change the fan settings in the BIOS, but I can't find anything like this on the laptop. Can anyone suggest where I should look - are there any open source or shareware tools which will do this?

Answer:Fan kicks quite loudly every minute on Satellite L30

did you already updated your bios to the latest version? If not, then hurry and check if a newer version is available since most bios updates are correcting some issues like powermanagment settings (ACPI :)) and some other stuff.

Another idea would be to clean up your ventilation system of your machine because a fan which is clobbed with dust, doesn?t work quietly and accurately . A can with compressed air from any electronic market does the trick. :)

I just buy a satellite Toshiba there two days now but the fan will turn on every minute when I go only on the web ...

Listening to music / watching videos, it is almost covered by the sound, but otherwise it's really headlock.

It blows every minute 10/20s, and force even if it is not that strong, it's really disturbing.

Is this normal?

Answer:Satellite C660 - fan turns on every minute

The fan would turn on if the CPU would be stressed.
You can check in task manager what process stresses the CPU and could check if you could disable this.

Furthermore I would recommend checking the Win 7 Power Management
There you can change the settings for cooling modules to battery optimized.

Hope this helps

Satellite M40x-175.

I have updated its BIOS to the latest version (1.60) and since then the hard drive keeps falling asleep after one minute regardless of Windows Power settings or Toshiba Power Saver settings.

Is Toshiba going to release an updated BIOS soon?

Please help.

Answer:HDD keeps falling asleep after one minute on my Satellite M40

I don?t think that it?s a BIOS malfunction. As far as I know in BIOS you can change settings for HDD. Please check it. Furthermore Toshiba Power Saver disabled the Windows Power settings. Did you check the modes settings of Power Saver?

My USB sockets went intermittant on Sunday night for no reason. 1 min they were working the next they are not. They seem to work when I turn on the laptop then they stop for no reason.

I have

1 removed and reintalled drivers in Driver Manager
2 installed latest chipset update
3 rebooted PC

Any one know why this would happen, the slots are secure, sometimes they work then they just stop for no reason!

Answer:Satellite C650 - USB slots working for 1 minute only

What operating system is installed at the moment?

Usually such problems with USB ports can be solved due a chipset driver update and removing the USB ports in device manager but it seems that you have done this already?

Do you see something unusual in Windows event viewer?

In your case I would also loading the default settings in BIOS (press F9 key). Have also a look on Toshiba website if there is a newer BIOS version available.

My one year old *U840-10M* on Windows 7 _irregularly stops functioning_ for one or two minutes.

This may happen either during regular operation or right after awakening from sleep.
Whether it really stops is not clear, as neither keyboard nor mouse nor touchpad react.
Hence Ctrl-Alt-Delete to check what is happening is no option.
After one minute of deadly silence activities are resumed as normal.

All drivers are up to date. Notebook is used primarily for email and surfing, hence problem appears while using Chrome and/or Outlook 2007.

Any suggestion how to prevent this erratic behaviour is very much appreciated.
Equally welcome are suggestions how to analyse this notebook in order to find out what forces this stop of activity..

Answer:Satellite U840-10M irregularly dead for one minute

Notebook is one year old but it will be interesting since when have you noticed such behaviour. Maybe some background activity blocks your notebook.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say why this happen. What you can do is to back up all your data and reinstall OS using recovery media. It will be interesting to know if the same problem happens when notebook has ?factory settings?.

I have a year and 3 months old Toshiba L650-1HM, running the latest Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 and Fuduntu 2012.1 x86_64 Linux, I've updated the bios and every other driver I could find in order to try and fix this but so far nothing has worked.

My guess is the shutdown delay is caused either by the ethernet or wireless boards because while shutting down Fuduntu it locks on the "Shutting down NetworkManager:_" routine before resuming the shutdown sequence.

This happens in both windows and Linux.

Answer:Satellite L650-1HM freezes for a minute or two at shutdown

How to help when you use two own preinstalled operating systems? Who knows what is your OS configuration?
Who knows which applications are preinstalled?
Linux is not supported at all.

Your Windows is also your own installation. Where to start with our discussion?
Obtain second HDD for testing purposes, put it in your notebook, install original recovery image that you got with your notebook and test t with ?factory settings?. If the same happen again and again then we can say: OK there is maybe some software related issue or anything else.
Happen exactly.
Sorry but on this virtual way it is not easy to say what

Hi guys, This is my first post on the forum, so here goes.I have an Epson WF 2530 printer which I bought new from Tesco's around 18 months ago and up to now it has done everything that it's been asked to do, untill today. When I want to print a document it just rolls out a blank sheet and an error report on the lcd display says " Paper out. Load paper and press OK " even though there is ample paper present. Just to rule it out, I have taken the printhead out, cleaned and replaced it as well as replaced the ink  cartridgesAnother furum I viewed says that it is a fault with the paper sensor however I've no idea where to locate it.Any suggestions would be welcome.      Thanks         Hamer.

I am working with a client who has a Kyocera KM-2530 and wants to use it to scan to PCs on their network. They bought it from . Has anyone set up one of these office all in ones for this? ive tried looking through documentation on it and searching google for setting this up but it has been unsuccessful so far... thanks for any help!!

Answer:Kyocera 2530 scanning to network pcs?

we have a Lanier 2135 (i belive) that does network scanning.

Basically, you set up the scanner/printer/copier/coffee maker/jukebox on the network.

Then install the management software on a computer that will never be turned off (server), then the software should be able to find the scanner via broadcast/responce, and establish the connection.

Then you should be able to assign a directory on the network where the management software will dump the processes scans.

I have my Display settings set to turn off display after 1 hour when on power and 10 minutes when on battery.
I have a screen saver set up to go on after 10 minutes.

However, my display often (but not always) turns itself off after only a minute or two of inactivity.

Can anyone explain this weird behavior?
It starts up immediately I move the mouse but I just don't like things happening that I haven't scheduled.

Answer:Satellite P850 display turns off after only minute or two of inactivity

Unfortunately I don't have some logical explanation for this behaviour, especially if this happen ?often?. Try to disable screensaver and check if this will happen again and again. Change also display settings and check if there s some difference.

Hi! I need your help! Whenever I switch to battery power, suddenly, one minute later, my laptop turns off for no reason! The battery is fully charged. What do you think the problem is? My laptop is 4 years old.
It's a Satellite 1400.
Thanks a lot!

Answer:After one minute on battery power my Satellite 1400 switches off

Hello Krissy

In my opinion everything that happens has some reason. According to your description I believe that battery is at the end and must be replaced.

It can be that battery status is full but there is no enough power. I have similar problem with Tecra 9000. Unit is also about 4 years old. On battery it runs maybe 10 min but after that this time it switched down suddenly.

Ok, so I've got a Dell Dimension 2530 a client brought in the other day wanting a fresh install of XP Home Edition on there.

Having being an older system with no recovery partition and hanging on the windows screen more times than not I popped in my XP HOME OEM DVD.

FIRST FAIL - No DVD drive...wouldn't read my external DVD drive...Having plenty on hand I popped one in for his main ROM Drive.

Booted up into the DVD fine...DELETED his old partition and reformatted just fine.

SECOND FAIL - Wake up and the installation hung up right near the end before you enter a user name and your authentication of windows for the system.

Normally when something like this has happened to me I can reboot the PC and it will resume the installation. This time that was not the case it posts, then goes to a black screen with a white blinking underscore for about 40 seconds like its trying to access my DVD...then the screen goes blank completely. ALT f4 wouldn't work and it sat there for a period of time...SO option one...I did some things in BIOS so I restored it to no avail...

This same thing happens to me when trying to boot to JUST the ROM drive.

I'm a tech by trade, but a beginning tech. Any help on this issue would be most appreciated.

Answer:Dell Dimension 2530 Completely STUMPED!

I would suggest testing the hard drive using the manufacturer diagnostics.

Every time I try to print anything, my WF-2530 feeds a sheet through and reports paper out. The unit has seen little use and has never had a paper jam. I have carefully loaded only a few sheets of regular 20 lb paper and it does it every time. I have done the same with some Kodak photo paper for inkjet and gotten the same results. It simply does not detect that there is paper loaded.

I have tried resetting the unit, powering off then on, disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord. Nothing causes it to recognize that paper is loaded after it feeds the first sheet through. Press the 'OK' button and it will feed another sheet and continue to report 'paper out'.

I don't want to replace such a lightly used printer. If I can correct whatever is wrong with the paper sensor it would be a blessing. Help!

Thanks in advance for your help. I am trying to upgrade my computer to Vista Business, but I only have about 42MB left of hard drive capacity. Does anybody knows what the difference is between 300GB 5400 RPM Universal SATA - 8MB and 300GB 7200 RPM Universal SATA -16MB. I aqppreciate your advise, and thank you in advance.

Answer:Wishing to upgrade hardrive of Think Pad 2530 - z60m, from 100MB to 300MB

The difference is the speed and buffer, the latter drive being faster and having twice the buffer and it will perform a lot better than the first one. Please be advised that you have to stay with 32-bit Vista on your Z60m, 64-bit will not install on it. Hope this helps.

Help....I had to Restore to an earlier date when I knew that the keyboard and mouse activate upon booting up in the morning.
Everything works fine. I shut down at night. Next day I boot up. Boot is OK. However, the keyboard again does not operate. I have to RESTORE again to the "Good date". The restore goes my mouse and keyboard work again.
What is causing my keyboard to not function upon the first boot of the day?

Answer:Keyboard does not work after Reboot

I did a new install of WinXP Pro the other day, and began to download / install my old programs. I'm not sure when it happened, or how, but at this point, none of my installed applications work. When I restart my computer, everthing that I installed won't open. When I try to open them it just flashes a dos prompt really fast, and nothing more happens. I've checked the .exe's and they aren't working, as well as missing their icons. However, if I reinstall anything, it works fine, until I reboot again. So programs that require restarting to operate, can't be used at all. I've never seen anything like this, and I don't even know where to begin. ANY help would be appreciated.

Examples of programs I install, and then stop working after restart:
Quake III
Jedi Academy
Dell AIO Printer A920

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Intel Pentium 4, 1800 MHz (4.5 x 400)
Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 8200
128 MB (RDRAM)
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 (64 MB)
MAXTOR 6L080L4 (80 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133)
HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B (16x/10x/40x CD-RW)
C: (NTFS) - 76308 MB

Answer:Programs don't work on reboot

windows xp needs 128MB of ram as the minimum. Running xp and opening programs, like games, may need more memory.

Hello. I'm really new to this thread, and this just happened almost 3 hours before this post. I had to reboot my Windows XP (32 bit) After i downloaded NETFRAME 4.0. When i did, my pc hummed to life, but my monitor (A E19T6W) registered that my GTS 250 1024 MB Card was not reading. I check multipul times, looking at the graphics card as it runs. The fan works like it normaly does, but the display is not working. I am now running on my intergrated motherboard (Asus A8N-LA) Which is a Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE, and i do not know what to do. I tried removing the mobo battery for 5 minutes to reset the board, nothing. Ive tried to reinstall my drivers, That does not work. I do not hope it is a bad PCI slot, but are there any suggestions available? Anything would be nice.

My specs are

System Manufacturer/Model Number: Compaq sr1901wm
OS: Windows XP 32 Bit
CPU: AMD X64 3600+ DUO
Motherboard: Asus A8N-LA
Memory: 1.75GB DDR

Alright this is for windows 8.1 but I didn't know where else to post it, on my mom's pc for some reason all of a sudden when she first turns the pc on the keyboard doesn't work, its getting power, due to the numlock light being on, however none of the keys work, now if she reboots the pc, with a restart when it comes back the keyboard works fine. I've tried to figure this out myself and tried searching google but I've had no luck on a fix yet.

Any suggestions on what I can try?

HiWe have found over the last few months that everything external to the computer save the mouse and keyboard will only be recognised once. For instance, if I switch on the printer, I can use it for one print job, then anything else just sits in the print jobs queue - not spooling or anything, just there. If I reboot the computer it prints straightaway. It happens with the card reader too...I would just update the driver to the printer etc. but it seems that it may be something else as it's happening to more than one thing... but not sure where to start. Any advice appreciated.ThanksLeah

I recently put together a new machine and it has started to be a pain.
The Hardware is GA Z97X G3 M/B, 32gb 1600mhz Ram, G3258 CPU (new), Samsung 840 EVO 250gb, 750W Thermaltake PSU and 2 GTX 660Ti.

When I first installed everything it worked FINE and I had no issues what so ever but, I recently added my 2 extra HDD's and it still functioned ok but, from time to time, when a NEW install happens, I go to restart the machine and it goes to restart then just sits there, there are fans going and lights come on but, nothing. The monitor shuts off and the keyboard goes off but it doesn't restart. I have to force close it down and restart and it boots with no issues.
I did have a similar problem after I had installed Roxio where the machine would not shut down but I stopped a dll from loading that wasn't needed and that was fixed.

Maybe someone has an idea?

My internet went down and the diagnostic checker from bellsouth told me to reboot, So I did and when it restarted the mouse did not work. The only way I got it to work again was to hit f8 at restart and chose last known good configuration from the screen. My question is: Has this happened to anyone else and what is the way to fix it? Also when my mouse was not working I tried different mouses including usb and the old type green connector mouses.
This has happened to me twice in the last 24 hrs. Any tips?

Answer:mouse does not work after reboot

If it's a mouse with above average capabilities, it may have specific drivers which may have become corrupt. If that's the case, rReload the disk that came with it and reinstall the software.

If it's a mouse that runs on batteries, they may need replacing.

Also, the shutdown, when I go into Start, then press shutdown, my laptop used to actually shut down.

Now all I can do is click either the sleep or hibernate on the arrow pull-out menu on the shutdown button.
Can anyone help me with this.

They have all been working fine up to now.

Answer:Satellite L750 Fn buttons do not work & shut down doesn't work either

> I have been using my L750 for about 3 weeks now and suddenly the function keys (using the FN + F keys) have ceased to work.

Go to All Programs -> Flash Cards Utility and restart the Flash Cards.

The point is that this Utility controls the FN buttons and this should be the first step in order to get the button working again.

If this does not help, reinstall the VAP (value added package)

Regarding the power off issue:
Click right on the Start button -> Properties
Now choose Start Menu tab
Here in the point power button action choose Shut down

I was recently downloading an update to Realplayer when it crashed.
On startup the HDD light its trying to be accessed....but the OS (Windows XP Pro) is not booting up.
All I get is the Toshiba Welcome red text....the nothing...blank screen.

Even If I try to boot into Safe Mode or any other via the Windows Advanced Option screen I get nothing.

I can get to the cmd propmt and I have searched and seen that my data and documents are all still there in the My documents folder, as well as the 'System' and 'System32' files but i cannot see the i386 folder...

I am trying the commands like 'chkdsk' but they are not being recognised as I'm getting the message 'Bad command or file name'

Would a BIOS update help me...

Any other ideas.....will be greatly appreciated...

Answer:My Satellite 1800-911 won't reboot

Hmmm ?. Really stupid situation. As far as I know BIOS update has nothing to do with this problem and it will not help at all. I really do not know what you can try.

Before you do anything you should remove HDD and connect it on other PC as external one and back up all your important data. If you have some time please check this page %20Activated

following some tips there you can try to repair preinstalled OS. If nothing helps I am afraid you must install OS again.

Hello all,

I have a Satellite M30 which after a few years loyal and trouble free service began to take several minutes to start up. I tried to solve this by using the Product Recovery Discs but can get no further than the screen asking me to insert Disc 1. After a few more minutes of a blank screen, there is a beep and an ' error ' message appears.

Can?t really afford a brand new laptop and am a bit worried about buying a 2nd hand one, so this is my last hope.

Reading what people have written in these forums I feel out of my depth and probably wont be able to understand any answers that do come my way. But if anyone does have any ideas then please do let me know .Thanks. getcarter

P.S. I was in a currys the other day looking at all the laptops I couldn?t afford, when I overheard someone who had brought a Toshiba back and appeared to be having the same problem. Sadly, the Currys staff didn?t have much of a clue and could only think of hitting the ' C ' button over and over and over again !

Answer:Satellite M30 wont reboot

to do some logical research: You put the CD in your drive, hit "C" and get the message to insert Disc 1. So I ask you: which CD you are putting in your drive???

Could you please tell me if you really put the CD 1 in your drive. And then could you try the second CD if there is one available (which should be available)

I would really appreciate your feedback on that case. :)

This is my first time posting on here and I could really use your help. I have a satellite pro a210 and I went to answer a phone call and it ran out of power and now it will not turn on again. I have tried taking the battery out and holding the power button down to drain it and then starting it up again and holding F8, F12, I was told hold down the back space key while rebooting(tried them all).

Tried with battery in and battery out with the power lead attached but nothing has worked. It has been like this for a couple of months and I have run out of ideas.

If anyone has had a similar problem and knows of a solution it would be great.

Hi all

This is now more than one year I used my Toshiba notebook P30, but now it's getting difficult to work on it.

At the beginning during summer time when I was using my computer for gaming, the laptop getting hot and switch OFF. At this time I get the habitude to vacuum the dust on the fan using my vacuum cleaner, this was helping a lot to prevent overheating.
But since 2 month event if my fans are clean I got some automatic reboot.

But now this is worse, when I start up it the sound never work at the first reboot, I always need to do a second one. Also often time the laptop reboot itself even after one night OFF during booting up or on the few first seconds after opening window.

I format the HDD to clean up every thing but during the format it was also switching OFF. After some try I succeed to install XP again but it's not more stable. As soon I start games or other big software the computer switch OFF (without warning or bleu screen) , if I check the back side temperature with my hands I can not feel it too hot.
I also notice when I have too much USB stuff connected to it (like: USB mouse + Webcam + USB microphone) it's going OFF.

To use it I have to wait until I'm 100% sure the booting up sequence is over, and by doing stuff slowly I can surf on the net and used email, but I'm never know how long I will be able to use it, some times it's 2 minutes some times it's 2 hours.

Please, there is some one who can help me?

Answer:Satellite P30 unexpected reboot

It?s not easy to say why it happens. Generally it sounds like a overheating but the notebook should shuts down during the HDD formatting.
Maybe the cooling modules don?t work properly. It?s also possible that there is another malfunction on different part.
Firstly you should check if the cooling modules can take a breath and if the air intake is free.
The second possibility is to check the power saver settings. This Toshiba application is responsible for the CPU and cooling module usage.

If all this tips doesn?t help, so the last chance to solve it is to contact the Toshiba service for checking the notebook.

Ok, before I go into the problem itself I would like to say that I don't have the slightest clue about computing and laptops etc. So I would appreciate no jargon and please keep guides so an absolutely uneduated fool could understand haha.

Basically, one day I just decided I had enough of my *Toshiba Satellite Pro L450-17L* going really slow so I went to restore the disk and I cannot remember how I did this. Anyway, everything seemed to be going fine until it came up with a white screen after fully rebooting saying PLEASE WAIT Finishing installation may take several minutes. Please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!

I think at this point my laptop turned off because it needs to be plugged in at all times and the charger came loose (this is because the battery has been completely drained) and now all I have is a guest account and no other accounts whatsoever! I cannot reboot the laptop because of this and was hoping if someone could tell me another way I can reboot it because I can't believe this is the only way.

All help and guides are very much appreciated!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this white screen comes up everytime now and never goes away!

Answer:I cannot reboot my Satellite Pro L450-17L

To be honest it is not easy to say much about this issue and in my opinion you should install recovery image again following description on

My Toshiba Satellite A110-159, Windows XP SP3 has a system error and does not want to start up again (not in safe modus). starting the computer by using the last known good configuration does not work either. I have also tried changing the boot order in the BIOS, putting the CD/DVD first to boot, but that didn't help.

Problems occurred after trying to clean my system of a virus by running AVG virus scan from command prompt in the safe modus. I think some of my registry got messed up.

It keeps on giving a blue screen with the following error message:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
The system has been shutdown.

...and then it restarts again. It is not able to open Windows or anything.

I have decided to reboot my system using the Toshiba Recover Disks. (I have a Norton Ghost recovery of my C-drive on an external disk and plan on putting that back into place after I have the system in factory settings again).

Following instructions I have inserted the recovery disk 1/2, pressed F12 and in the Boor Menu selected:
and then pressed Enter.

And then it gives a window where it starts checking for Realtek Ethernet or somthing, can not find that (no cable atttached) and then starts loading Windows and giving the familiar Blue Screen and restarting again.

So it does not recogin... Read more

Hello everyone,

I tried pressing F12 right after rebooting the system, F8, Delete button, and even the C key, neither of that works, i also tried the toshiba utilities software but i never could reboot from CD ?

Anyone could help me please ?
I really appreciate your replies .

Answer:Satellite L750 - Can't Reboot from CD

I?m wondering why you cannot choose the ODD as booting device?
Usually after pressing F12 you should get an boot menu on the screen.
Can you see this?

Press power button and press F12? you can press F12 several times in the row to ensure that F12 has been entered and recorded properly.
Furthermore press F2 should allow you to access the BIOS.
The F2 button should be pressed also very fast immediately after pressing the power on button.

By the way: do you try to boot from created Recovery disk?

Hi all. I have a HP desktop 6644F with a WinXP upgrade installed. My mouse does not always work when I boot up this machine. This was a computer given to me and I do not have a restore disc, if that matters. It has done this since I received the machine and is inconsistent. I've tried several different mice, but it does the same thing no matter which one I choose, or use. In the end, I just have to reboot over and over again until it recognizes the mouse.

I did go into System Information or whatever it was that checked the mouse properties. Actually I'm pretty sure it was the Control Panel now that I think about it. Anyway, it said (while the mouse was frozen mind you), that the mouse was working properly. It makes me wonder how helpful that little test was. Obviously it was wrong.

I'm not sure what step to take next. I have updated the driver, but it still freezes so it must not be the right thing to do. Any suggestions?

My windows password does not work when I reboot my laptop.  I have to use the hands off keyboard button in order to type in my password.  When I shut my laptop and open it back up and type in my password it works fine.  It only does not work when I reboot it.  Its just annoying to have to click in my password rather than type.  Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Answer:Windows Password Won't Work After Reboot

Have you tried the Fn key to unlock the keyboard?

A couple weeks ago I received a replacement computer, an HP Envy 17t to replace an HP Envy 15t which was basically a lemon. Both computers had Windows 10 Pro installed. It takes forever for the lock screen to load the password picture. I have three motions set up and the computer freezes after I perform the first motion. If I persists it tells me that I entered the wrong password and I should restart. Problem is I can move the arrow but it doesn't work and I can't restart. the only thing I can do is turn off the computer using the power button. Upon reboot I usually can perform the three motions and go on to the desktop. I was using the same password picture on the old Envy and it worked perfectly. I called HP support and they want me to reinstall Windows. I'm not that computer savvy and It took more than three whole days to get back to normal and reinstall everything and I would really prefer not to have to go through that again. Anyone have any suggestions? I would be very grateful. Thank you.
