The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

Question: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

Hi ,How are you. I get this error over and over again in the Event Viewer:

1203 - Description : The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Could you tell me exactly how to fix this problem because I'm confused??

Thanks,Robert(Windows 10 64 bit)

Preferred Solution: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

Hi Ewa,
It's just a example instead of your real ID.
The ID of yours {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97} must be in that list. Have you attempt to find it?
I have search it on my lab computer(Windows 8.1)as below:

I tried to take the following steps to get the "full control" permission on a "System Volume Information" folder for a user account I had created.
right-click on the folder -> Properties -> Security tab -> Edit -> the "Permissions for <object>" dialog appears -> Add -> the "Select Users or Groups" dialog appears -> Enter the user account's name and press OK -> back to the "Permissions for <object>" dialoge -> select "Full control" for the newly added name -> Click on the Apply button
After I clicked on the Apply button, a dialoge entitled "Error Applying Security" appears, stating:

"An error occcurred while applying security information to:

Access is denied."

Behind that dialog, there was another dialog entitled "Windows Security", which states:

"Setting security information on <drive>:\System Volume Information\tracking.log"

I thought maybe Windows didn't like people to mess with such an important folder, and therefore refused to grant the permission. So, I cancelled the front "Error Applying Security" dialog. (There's another Continue button)

At this point, a new "Windows Security" dialogue popped up, saying:

"Stopping the propagation of permission settings leads to an inconsistent state, in which some objects have the settings but others don't. If you made the ch... Read more

Answer:Windows says it won't grant access permission, but it does grant.

You are looking at the permissions set on the folder. Not on the files which can have a different set of permissions. Clearly setting permissions on those files failed.

...Why are you even messing with the permissions in the first place?

I have the exact same error. The usual fix with runtime broker doesn't work. I can't work out what DCOMCNFG item this is either. Very frustrating.

It's not always RunTime Broker, but can be Immersive Shell, WSearch and others. The name most always shows up when the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE AppID "Default" entry is displayed in the right column - in this case {F72671A9-012C-4725-9D2F-2A4D32D65169}.

The key was right-clicked and exported for safety. Then it was deleted, and the error vanished.

Interestingly, when Dcom was opened later it prompted to update a missing entry, which was done. Thereafter the AppID reappeared in the registry and its default was listed as CDP Remote Text Handler. No further edits/additions were made to that entry in Dcom.

My error log is absolutely swamped with messages re "Cannot start DCOM". Several logged ever second, it seems. The error log is unreadable because of this.

How can I make a certain application to have a permission from the admin. And you can't open it if you don't have password of administrator. Example, when I open Revo uninstaller, it ask for the administrator password. How can I do that in other applications. I done it before in Limewire, but I forgot it already.

This recently started and I now have seen this on 5 different computers. All computers have current Trend AV. The box pops up on just about everything, IE - some shortcuts to some site work fine, others hive the message.
My Computer properties, word, excel just about every program.
All of these computers were fine until 8/15 or so and I think it may be a Windows update that corrupted the permissions, but now you cannot get into the permissions to change those either.
Any help would be great.

I have an obscure, but very useful, application called Studio, which includes functionality to export the working image into a graphics editor (typically Adobe Photoshop) and launch the graphics editor in a single step.

When I press the appropriate button in Studio, photoshop does not launch, "Error #20014 Not able to open file" appears as an error with Studio.

The path to define Photoshop is correct. The error occurs whichever graphics editor I specify.
Windows XP, SP2, fully updated.
Using Admin account.
Using ZoneAlarm security suite. Issue occurs even when ZA suite is shutdown completly.
Windows firewall disabled.
No virus or malware.
High performance PC, running well
Photoshop working correctly.
All other features of Studio working correctly
Working image is able to be opened in Photoshop manually. ie. save in Studio then open in Photoshop

Since the problem occurs even with ZoneAlarm shut down, I imagine that the problem is something to do with windows permission.... I have looked through system log, but cannot see any related errors.

I know the Studio function works OK (it worked on a previous computer with similar setup).

Very grateful for your help.

Answer:Requesting permission to open application, sir !

Sorry to ask an obvious question but... how can I give a specific program PERMANENT permission to run?

e.g. I still use a (very light and fast) desktop search utility called "Everything". It JUST searches filenames, and this is sometimes very useful.

I don't want to turn off my User Account Control Setting (UACS) completely because I want it to stop anything that I haven't given permission to from running. But it's incredibly irritating that every single time I open my "Everything" application that I am have to give it permission to run.

Many thanks

P.S. What is worse is that Everything tries to spider my disk at start up and so every time I reboot it needs permission to run. Nightmare! Fwiw, I never had that problem in Win7...

PPS. Btw, where can I find (and stop) which application are being loaded at startup?

Answer:How to give permanent UACS permission to an application?

Hello J,

You could use either tutorial to have a program run elevated without getting or turning off the UAC prompt to do so.

I was trying to give myself permission to the file C:\Users\Tom\Local Settings. Now, no matter what I hit I keep getting the attached error messages and there is no exit.
Nothing happens when I hit edit, so I can't change anything back. Nothing happens when I hit cancel. So, my only option is to hit ok, but this gives me the attached error messages.

Should I use task manager to end the task? What are the dangers of "an inconsistent state" as displayed in the last error screen?

Is there a utility I can use to set the ownership and permissions back to there original status?

This is my first post to a forum for help, so I hope I followed the correct protocol. I thank you in advance for any help.

Answer:I am in a loop trying to grant myself permission

Hello Durangoforcards, and welcome to Vista Forums.

The C:\Users\Tom\Local Settings folder is a protected operating system folder and should not be messed with. The actual folder that the C:\Users\Tom\Local Settings points to for you local settings would be C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Local instead.

Clicking on Cancel (Error Applying Security) and OK (Windows Security) and OK (Local Setting Properties) closed them for me.

Here are the default settings for that folder. Everyone has nothing checked, and all of the other user groups have full control by default.

Hope this helps,

I have just set up a computer with Windows 7, and I'm apparently missing something simple, but I just can't find it.

I installed Windows 7 on the machine and everything works great. I then joined the computer to a 2003 Server domain. Everything still appeared to work fine. However, when I log into the domain on the Windows 7 computer, I don't have the correct permissions on the local machine.

I can access the domain. The login works fine. There are no errors. However, when I try and access anything on the local drive, like explorer.exe, it tells me that I don't have the permissions to access it. I can run some programs, in some directories (like Program Files), but if I try and run anything in the Windows directory, I don't have permission. I can access things on the domain, and I can even use Firefox to view the contents of domain machines, mapped network drives, and even the local C drive. I just cannot run anything that's in the local Windows directory.

I can access the local drive using either the domain administrator account, or the local machine administrator account. However, using either of those accounts, I'm not allowed to change permissions on that folder! I can see that the folder is set as read only, but when I attempt to remove the read-only flag (using either account), it tells me that I don't have permission to do that.

I've also tried to give the domain user administrator permission on the local machine, but that has no effect either. That part really con... Read more

This thread at TechNet seems to relate to your problem. It mentioned something about you need to set the password the same as the Administrator's password of the Windows 2000 system. And also you need to change the NTLM authentication level in Windows 7. Even though you are on server 03 this may still apply.

Ok after a bit of googleing and mesing with the permissions, i finally got it to work. What i done was, changed the owner of the drive to administrator. Then i went into the drive and slected the parent folder which had the padlocked files/folders with in. i changed its ownership to admin and also told it to apply the permission to all child files/folders.worked :)

Is it possible, to grant permission a user to create share of any folder of his PC in active directory environment. User can only create a share folder for other user, at the same time that user denied for any administrative power.

Please help me by providing information how can I do that.

Answer:Grant Permission To Create Share Folder.

I believe you are looking at editing group policy here. This specific change is not something I have ever done but it certainly sounds like a group policy privledge would solve your problem here.
Basically you need to give standard users the admin ability of creating shares. While not opening up anything else to them.

All I can do to get you started is tell you group policies is what you are after.
I just don't know exactly which one needs to be edited off the top of my head.

Hi all,

I’m testing an application called ProcessMaker on my desktop computer at work. This program has an e-mail notification feature which I can’t get to work. It's got a very straightforward mail setup. I’ve set it to send mail through our corporate SMTP server, but it can’t successfully connect to the server. It resolves the host and port, but just sits and spins when it tries to establish a connection.

I've worked with our mail admins and established that the SMTP server is working fine. I'm using the right settings. I can telnet to it. I set up both Outlook and a simple mail app I downloaded to send mail through the SMTP server and it worked fine.

I installed ProcessMaker on my cubemate's computer and the e-mail function worked fine.

So, there's some problem with the setup on my workstation that's interfering with this one application. It uses a web browser for its interface, running at localhost:8080.

Here's what I've tried:
I tried it using both IE and Firefox.
I reset my TCPIP settings using netsh int ip reset.
I disabled TCPIP autotuning to see if that was interfering.
I disabled SEP to see if the firewall or other protection scheme was interfering.
None of these has made a difference.Any ideas from the field??

Thanks much!

Alex Harris

COMODO Internet Security : How to grant application access memory
Uploaded by Valentin N on malwaretipscom Channel on Dec 5, 2011

Answer:COMODO Internet Security : Grant application access memory

But that's not how you allow memory access to avoid the log entry, (bypass self protection) as the video suggests is the problem.

You'll need to go to Defense+ -> Computer Security Policy -> Defense+ Rules.

Click on the Comodo Internet Security group and click Edit, then Customize.

Now click the Protection Settings tab, not the Access Rights tab.

In Protection Settings, click Modify on the Interprocess Memory Accesses rule and add the application that you do not wish to receive an log entry if it is trying to access a CIS process in memory.

I know that the answer to my question is easy, but when it comes to working with Permissions, I am an absolute dud. Anyway, I have two programs that I want to have open automatically when I boot up, Thunderbird and Maxthon. I have placed their shortcuts into the Startup folder. They do open, but when Maxthon opens, the User Control Box opens asking to allow program to make changes to the computer. This is my mistake in that when I set up Maxthon I inadvertently must have clicked a button that directed a permission OK. I would like to undo the permission request so that Maxthon will open on boot up without having to do anything...How?

Have looked at the other postings about Windows 7 and "You need permission" - this one seems new. I have a laptop and a desktop both running Windows 7, both part of HOMEGROUP.

The desktop has two hard drives (C and D), both shared with full access to EVERYONE.
I can see both but can only update the D drive on the desktop from the laptop. When I try any update (new folder, copy a new file in, etc.) to the C drive, I get the "You need permission" error.

Have tried turning off sharing then turning back on for the C drive and have compared the sharing between C and D - they appear identical. Snipit of C drive permission attached. Any thoughts or ideas on what else to try would be appreciated.

Answer:You need permission - happening on networked drive that has permission

Rather than sharing form the root of the C: drive you should be sharing from the C:>Users folder instead. This is the default setting for Windows and there are many good reasons for this.

For networked drives that were created under a different User name you would also need to allow for sharing using the "Security" tab of the C: drive. The link below shows you how.

You can also set this drive share up at the C:>Users location if desired.

Hi everyone,

I just want to ask, how am I supposed to add specific PC connected on my LAN.

see Image below.

you see, on the Properties of my hard drive > on the sharing tab > advance sharing > permission > then I want to add one. I'm stuck on entering the object name.. what I want to enter is my Other Laptop connected on my network.. by the way the hard drive I want to share is on my Desktop.

Answer:Hard Drive Permission to Share Specific PC on Network. Help

It's ok, you have done what needed to be done from the desktop. Close everything saved the disk properties window.

You now need to go on the laptop and in its My Computer window you need to click on "map a network drive", you select a drive letter (anyone is fine), and write the address you see in the sharing tab of the disk \\Jhude-pc\I in your casein the "folder" field. Or click on Browse and select it (writing it is faster).

In case you want to give the shared drive a more descriptive name than just "I", go in the advanced sharing tab and click on Add, write the name in the "share name", the click Ok and select that name from the drop down menu. Note how the address in the sharing tab is now different.

Ever since installing Lightshot, which is a screen capturing program (I know others who use this, but the problem only seems to happen to me, so it's not a virus), the file which installs keeps asking me for administrator permission yet even when I do give it administrator permission nothing happens. I assume it's automatically opening itself... I've deleted the file where it came from (Temp folder) yet it still asks me for permission even after deleting it (from the same file location?), and it's really annoying as there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of the said file nor block it from asking for permission.
I run Windows 8 on a x64 processor. Can anyone help me? If need be, I can give the exact file location.

Answer:A specific program keeps asking me to give it administrator permission hourly.

Just deleting a program is typically bad practice. Did you try uninstalling it first or check if there is a uninstaller program in it's files? It's probably to late to try revo uninstaller. That program works well with removing everyhing related to it even left over registry keys. Not sure exactly what process name is starting up asking you to run. You should be able to see it in task manager by hitting ctrl+shift+esc keys. it should open to processes tab. Click on the  name column at the top below the processes tab and it will catagorize everything into apps, background processes, windows processes. That helps determining what process group it is related to.
In the process tab you can right-click the running program and choose "Go to details" Note that it has highlighted the program in details tab. Write down the process ID (PID) right-click again and you have options to Open file location, go ahead and do that but do not delete any files just yet. Minmize the browser for now. Now right-click the service again & "Go to Services". What is the name and process description?

I have a home network implemented using workgroup. I want to share a folder on my vista pc with one other user over lan. I want to set it up like if that particular user clicks on the folder (under "Network"->"My PC"), he gets access, but if some other lan user clicks on the folder, it prompt for a password OR give any kind of error.
So far I have tried going to to-be-shared folder's security permissions and grant "Everyone" read persmissions, but then everyone over lan gets access to the folder contents. If I remove everyone, then that specific user I want to share folder with also gets blocked out. So far its all-or-none results for me. Someone suggested me to create a local account on my pc with the same username as the friend I want to share folder with, but thats little clumsy stopgap solution for me because then I would have to create a user on my pc for every person over lan who I want to share a specific folder with. Is there any other way to accomplish the desired results??

Answer:How to give file sharing permission to a specific user over lan??

there are a couple of ways you could make it happen but they all involve extra time and or money:
1) set up as NAS system some of the like the buffallo drive will allow you to create users to access network resources

2) use a open source ldap implentation to create a directory

3) set up a win srv 2k3/8 directory

without a directory there is no way to centerlly manage users and ressouces thats why setting

a cheap way would be if you have a extra pc and a large HDD you can?store all the profiles and shared folders on this pc

Hi Arcturus,

running out of date tools doesn't help either.

As you have a system builder licence, you should also the discs.
Run a repair install using them.

hi all !
i have big mindf*** going on here..
i have 3 computers,

A - win7 ultimate x64 (PC) (LAN connected)
B - win7 professional x64 (laptop) (WLAN connected)
C - win7 ultimate x32 (laptop) (WLAN connected)

Theyre all connected on the same HUAWEI B260a wireless gateway, and theyre all under the same workgroup and connected within a homegroup
Standard shared public libraries (music, picture..) are visible and accessible for all of them with each other.

PROBLEM is @ network location
1) when i access from computer A to comp's B hard drive partition its all ok but it cannot access shared partition on computer C (but its visible)
2) computer B cannot access either one of their partitions
3) computer C can access everything and all

All of the HDs partitions are shared

how can i share my PARTITIONS and make them accessible for each computer without having permission troubles?

ive even assigned static ip adresses for each computer (though they comunicate with each other ok so it wasnt necessary to do that)

ofc, partitions are shared, FWs are disabled, all of the necessary services are enabled, there are no AVs blocking traffic
- but because of line under * stated above, nothing of this is actually important

Please help and ease my mind.

Ty in advance..

Answer:local homegroup failing to access - no permission

I have only used "workGroup" (Give it a name) for all pc's on the network in advance sharing set permissions for each partition. Make sure 'everyone" is in the group list, in security in the group or users that 'everyone" is in the list as well. If necessary switch off homegroup (through control panel to do this) also check that you search for the pc's through its name. check firewall setting for access for file and printer sharing also network discovery is enabled in the firewall

A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.

Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. These programs do not require administrator rights (Truecrypt and iSpy) and the check beside "Run program as administrator" is not checked in either the shortcut or the actual executable file. Can someone shed some light on this?

Have the programs been updated in any way, and do you see the UAC Shield beside / on the desktop icons ??

Hello Everyone,
What I want to accomplish is to run the program "InstallShield" only with a specified user.
So Basically DENY TO EVERYONE (admins, users, ... ) and ALLOW to the specified user.
I've tryied to create a Deny rule to everyone and an allow to specified user rule but isn't working.
Pheraps it checks the deny rule first and if it's true it stop checking.
Is there a way to allow only my SA user to be able to run Installshield and to deny access to the app to everyone else?

I am trying to set my folder permission settings on XP Pro. If I take away someones ability to delete they can no longer rename a folder. How do I enable someone to create and rename both folders and files, but not delete them. Thanks.

Answer:Folder permission settings.

I have these basics down.

It seems that when a new file is renamed, the phrase "New Folder" is actually being deleted, thereby requiring "Deletion" capability. But a user can also delete anything else with this permission, which is bad news. Is there away around this bug?

While my WD Portable External Hard Drive was connected to my work computer, I changed the permissions on a particular folder so that only I had access to it. (I was lending it to someone else but didn't want then to have access to this particular folder).

2 hours later I was told my services were no longer required, pack up all my things and leave. Unfortunately, I forgot to reset the permissions before I left, and now when I try to access the folder on my home PC, I get 'Access Denied'.

I realise it was stupid to mess about with the permissions (especially when I don't know that much about them), but is there anyway to take ownership of this folder to gain access to the contents?

Both work and home PC are XP. Work is 64 bit. Home is 32 bit. Permissions were set up on work PCs, but not on home.
And no, there's no chance of me gaining access to my work PC again.

As a less than knowledgeable computer user I stupidly changed my User "Permission Allow" check marks. I now get a "failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access denied." Of coarse I didn't write down what was originally checked off in the "Allow" box.

Would there be a listing of default settings so I can recheck the 3 categories and boxes within them to original. "System", "My Name With email address", and "Administrators"?

I'm not griping this time!

I've set up a limited account on my computer, and when I was testing it out, I noticed that I was able to manipulate the settings to the anti-virus program that's installed. How do I, using my administrator account, prevent the limited account from messing with it? I've hidden as many folders as possible, but the task bar icon is still visible and I can't hide it. And I can't right-click the task bar icon and mess with the security settings that way.

Answer:User account permission settings

The problem is more with your Internet Security software than with Vista. If you make the files for the Internet Security software inaccessible to a limited user - that software might not work properly for that user. Most Internet Security software (i.e. Norton, McAfee) allows you to install parental controls and give you the ability to control WHAT Windows users can or cannot do (including the manipulation of the software's settings).

What Internet Security Software are you using? Have you installed parental controls? Did you install the software while logged in as "Administrator"?

Let me know and I can probably offer more assistance.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for this great website. This will actually be my first post here. I am having issues with my DNS configurations, under the IPV4 properties. I originally had it set to receive the dns server automatically, and now it is constantly changing to receive dns server through a static IP. The static Ip address that keeps getting assigned is I do have internet access, but I my outlook which is setup with a exchange email address is not connecting because of this issue. I noticed that my homepage did change once, but I dont know if it was because of a software that I downloaded or virus related. Honestly, I am not sure what is causing this.

Things that I have already tried:
Booted into safemode and ran rkill followed by malwarebytes and superantispyware.
I didnt know I wasn't supposed to run it on my own, but I ran Combofix (sorry)
I ran Microsoft Security Essentials
I ran from a command line ipconfig /flushdns, and rebooted.

Thanks guys

Answer:DNS server changes to static without permission

I thought it was that was the issue, and i just realized it wasn't.
There is a software called Sendori, I uninstalled it. And that seemed to be the problem.

I recently re-installed Windows 7 and all of a sudden I was having access denied problems which had never occurred before.
I have managed to fix all of these apart from one:-
When I try to change the icon via the properties of a desktop item I get:-
"you will need to provide administrator permission to change these settings"
I am the only user of the PC and my account is an administrator account.

As I said, I never had this problem prior to the re-install.
I have searched and searched but have yet to find any answers or solutions.

Any help or info would be helpful.

I have been working with programs such as Blender 3d recently which conflict with my security settings. I have been getting permission denied for saving files and doing other functions in these programs. I found out how to disable the administrator setting by going in command prompt and typing "net user administrator /active no" and how to keep the computer from constantly bringing up warnings asking me to allow a change to my computer by going in user account settings and sliding the slider to zero. It seemed to be working untill I took the slider back up so that I could have some security enabled while on the internet, and then even when I took the slider back down it was still the way it was before, not letting me save my files on some programs and bringing up messages asking me to allow myself to run a program I had clicked on. I tried bringing up the command prompt and re-disabling the administrator setting and also made sure the slider was down all the way, to no effect. I was trying to do a system restore to restore whatever is screwing this up, but an error comes up everytime telling me it can't access a file possibly because of antivirus being on, even though I already turned all the security features off. Any way I could have missed something that I did right the first time but not the second?

I think I've screwed myself up into a corner. I really need help as Google is not bringing up anything that might help.
What happened is I tried to adjust the security setting for my whole external hard disk.
I have the admin rights to my computer and wanted to restrict a user to be able to read and execute only. I right clicked the drive (L:\) and adjusted the EVERYONE group.
What I didn't know was EVERYONE included the admin too. So now I've blocked myself from editing the files and folders in the external. Now I see all accounts have the special permission part unticked.
And if I check the properties of a folder in the hard disk I see an account with the special permission allowed
In a fit of panic I accidentally removed the account with special permission privilege from my hard disk properties so I don't see it when I check the properties of my hard disk but I can see the account when I check the properties for the individual folders.
For awhile I had access denied when I tried to enter the drive but now I can enter but still am restricted (can't delete folders, etc)

How do I rectify this mess I'm in?

Answer:File Permission Settings for External Drive

Through further googling, I've discovered 'taking ownership' so it's all settled now.

I now get this error message trying to access network resources from a laptop that used to work just fine. My wife's similarly configured laptop continues to work fine. I regularly share drives and printers across all machines and all appear to work except for this laptop. I have found that I can pring the other computers without issue if I use the ip address and can "net use" the drives directly by specifying the ip address rather than the computer name. However, any attempt to use the computer name fails (as above or as a "System error 53 has occurred" in a command prompt). Using the [email protected] solves part of the problem but I cannot find a similar [email protected] workaround to get to my network printer successfully.

Dear all:
This question is about giving right permission for users to access a folder, which contains a MS Access file database. In this case, without using MS Access to grant Read/Write rights, I can use Server OS to control user permissions of Read/Write.

However, it has happened a few times that suddenly some of us who have Administrator rights were only able to read the data but not able to alter; in other words, our permission rights have changed from Administrator to limited users. (Admin has both read and write, limited users only have read only).

I checked on the Server end, the permissions (for accessing that folder) are given correctly (assigned within Active Directory).

I was trying to figure out how it happened, and suddenly, I was able to view the database as Admin again.

There seems to be a glitch with my network across MS platform or something... sometimes either I cannot view the computers/shared folders on network, or sometimes I cannot access certain directories with right permissions.

Gladly this does not happen often (like once a month). But still, I would like to fix it. If anyone knows anything about it, please feel free to share your knowledge -)

Thank you~~

As title.

I've begun to use TeraCopy, which is much better than the stupid Win7 copy handler. There's just one problem:

When TeraCopy moves a file from a user-owned folder to a public folder, it retains folder's user-level permissions. I can manually give access to Everyone for this folder, but it is very annoying.

So, I'm looking for a way to easily remove a folder's own permission settings and make it use only inherited permissions.

I know how to share the folder if I use option “Everyone” Under Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Permissions > Add > Everyone ,,,,,,and I know how to use the option “Public Folder” which is located %SystemDrive%\User\Public

With “Everyone” option PC4 and PC5 would be able to get access to the shared folder
Now my question if I do not want to use "Everyone" option , I have to create additional three local accounts on the server which are ( username : forum1,password : work1 ) and ( username: forum2, password:work2 ) and ( username: forum3, password:work3 )

I am going to try and go through and see if I have taken the steps on taking Ownership - incorrectly and I do not know how to fix it.

The recycle bin has an error on it as I took the permission on the folder on the external hard drive 'It says that is corrupt'.

I am a total mess and unsure about the settings.

I know that this is mainly a Windows 7 Forum - but I wish just to see if someone would be able to assist me

Answer:Recycle Bin Corrupt and Permission settings confusion - external hdd

Did you mess around with permissions only, or did you change owner as well?
Please post permissions of F:\ as it is now.

The network environment is a Workgroup consisting of Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 Pro, and Windows XP Pro.

My example:
I have enabled Guest account in the Windows Server 2008 R2 computer.
I have created a new folder "guestshare" in c: and use Share with menu to add Guest with Read/Write Permission Level.

When I try to map it in the Windows XP Pro machine thru Map Network Drive function under Tools menu, I won't see that share using the Browse button. However, I can type the UNC path and map it.

If I turned off the Password Protected Sharing in the Windows Server 2008 R2 computer, I will see that share using the Browse button and able to map it. What is the reason for this behavior?

I wonder whether the following settings in Advanced sharing settings of Windows Server 2008 R2 can affect mapping:

File and printer sharing
Public folder sharing

Since mapping a drive requires authentication, is there any settings in User Right Assignments and Security Options of Local Policy that can affect mapping? For example, I wonder about the following settings:

User Right Assignments
Access the computer from the network
Allow log on locally
Deny access to this computer from the network
Deny log on locally

Security Options
Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only
Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously
Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts

Also, does the setting of Guest account in the Win... Read more

Hey guys,

Having a problem with Exchange 2010.

I've created a distribution group named All Staff, in which I have placed all the revelant staff in our school. When I try to share a calendar with the group I get the error message
"Calendar sharing is not available with the following contacts because of permission settings on your network."

I am able to share the calendar with individuals but this really isn't efficient.

The distribution group got the email [email protected] upon creating it.

Other information:
-Using Windows Server 2008 R2
-Client is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
-Accessing mail through Outlook Web Access

Thanks in advance and do ask for any other information you deem necessary.

Kinds regards,
Jack Pickup

I have been going nuts with this. For the past 3 days I have been getting messages saying I do not have permission to write in directories where I am listed as the owner. I have ensured that the users MyuserID, Administrators, and SYSTEM all have Full control over the directory. I have also made sure that the parent directories also give these users full control. I could live with this and just escalate my privileges each time I create a file. However I run some apps that need to write into some of these directories and they cant. I have checked that the application process is run under my userID and has the need permission, however it still can not write to these directories.

Is this a known bug that has recently been created? Is there some new Group or User that needs to be given permission to modify the directory. This seems to be a problem on some machines, but not others. Any help would be much appreciated. Since this just started without any changes by me, I am assuming that some Windows update is the cause.

Answer:File and Dir security permission settings not taking effect

Welcome to the Ten forums.

Have you check your Update history. Are any updates failing?

While I can't comment on known bug, others may have more info, do you have restore points enabled? If so would you consider invoking system restore as you seem to have a handle on when it started.

Obviously updates will simply re-initiate. You may consider changing what updates you receive. Make it just windows and do not included other products (ie., drivers). This will rule out drivers or "Other" patches.

Do you use any software to Image your OS / Data? If not, a number of individuals on this forum recommend Macrium Reflect. You may also want to review the tutorial section. Macrium is free to home users. It is easy to use and can quickly get you back to a known working system.

I'd like a brief tutorial, or a link to a page where I might be able to accomplish a little more restrictive environment. I understand the basic logic for what I want to accomplish, yet I can't get it to work. Here's my scenario:

Through Active Directory, I want to set a global group of users with restricted access to certain settings and programs, namely Remote Desktop Connection (I had a separate thread that dealt with comp. sci. students using the RDC to bypass the web filter). I can go around each computer and disable the RDC remotely, but I'd like to set it up to where every account name takes on the security/permission settings.

As a note: At my college, the accounts are set up to where even the desktop background is reset after logout. We have a tiny problem with kids changing the mouse cursors and backgrounds here. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance.

Inside W10's Event Viewer, I see an error with ID of 10016 (DistributedCOM). Its error description is -

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

{ (long number) }
to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

This error message says that I can modify security permission. As this topic is over my head, I don't know if I should do this or not. Thanks for any comments on this issue.

There are lots of discussions on this topic here at TenForums, but the clearest explanation of the problem and the fix come from this Shaun Cassells article: Windows 10 Event 10016 Fix: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). Ok, I posted earlier that I needed a solution to my problem, well I found one. I got the eval version of windows server 2003 (180 days to use it), my school is looking into purchasing a license as I type this.

Anyway, onto my problem. I have everything set up and running, DHCP server, DNS server, Active Directory, etc. Plus I have all the users created. Everyone can login (I have mandatory profiles set) and do their work and that's fine. However, here's my problem, I created a share directory called "Users", this directory contains all the user folders (by their full name, so "John Smith" for example). I have set the correct permissions and everything (I believe) but people get an error everytime they try and save, something along the lines of permissions not being set or the disk being read only.

Just to be clear, if person X is logged in, and they try and get into person Z's folder they get access denied (and vice versa )

I have each folder set (under the security tab of the properties box) so that "Administrators" and that particular user have FULL access to that folder, it's subfolder, and it's contents (on the advanced tab I have deselected the inherit permissions thing).

So any ideas on why they can't save in their designated folder?

Answer:Windows Server 2003 permission problems

share permissions take the most resterictive between ntfs permissions and sharing permissions no? make sure you have them configure correctly to allow the onwers to write to their dir.

I am unable to click into the following site because of the following msg:
You don't have permission to access on this can I fix this?

Answer:You don't have permission to access on this server

Hi Rich,

I receive the same message when I go to the website in VirtualBox. I used to get this error when I set incorrect permissions on my index file with CHMOD. Perhaps the website is being upgraded. This page is particularly odd since it actually loads the domain, yet still gives the error.

I would give it a few days and see if it's up again.

Hi all,

The server 'seems' to be operating fine but when I check the stats for the server (net stats server) I noticed there are over 300 permission violations. How can I find out what these permission violations are? There is nothing in the Event Viewer.

Thanks in advance.

I've set up several users on my W2K server domain controller. I've set up several directories to be shared with 'everyone' on the network. Whenever I attempt to logon a workstaion as one of the users, I am told 'access denied'.

If I am making the resource available to everyone (with full read/write permissions), how can someone be denied access? Am I missing a step here?

The server is W2K Server, and all the workstations are W2K Pro...

Answer:Windows 2000 server permission issue

permissions on a share is a separate set of information than login information. If you share something with everyone, it does not mean that everyone can log into a workstation. They will have to log in as a valid user, then connect to the share from there.

i have just added a hotmail account to OE anddownloaded folders as well. my pop3 messagesdownload in seconds but hotmail take ages, nowwhen i click to recieve mail a zonealarm alertasks if i want OE to act as a server. is thisconnected with the slow hotmail connection andshould i allow OE server permmision. any help.thanks.

Answer:zone alarm alert OE wants server permission?

Yes you do want Outlook Express to act as a server, go into the program window in Zone Alarm and make sure you have four ticks in OE line, have a look in Start Up (RUN>MSCONFIG>STARTUP) and see what you have running this could be causing slow download, but Hotmail is not the speediest.

Only problem is I can not get there, due to this message, Forbidden:You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server. I have Mozilla Firefox, do you think it's that? Could Windows Vista do that to me? Should I try Internet Explorer? Any suggestions and/or solutions are greatly appreciated.

Their server may be down. Try again later.

Somehow, the user permission settings have been changed to 'everyone' and I cannot get access to

A) Regedit
B) Run as administrator
C) wmimgmt.msc nor
D) Microsoft Security Essentials (for update)

I have installed and run updated malwarebytes, also, cleaned %temp% and prefetch folders; What steps can I take to regain access to my computer? *I do not have the installation CD nor backup restore point.

Here are links I've used so far to solve these problems:
A):Cannot access regedit.

Apologies if this topic has previously been discussed, but my search didn't yield helpful results.

In attempting (unsuccessfully) to install a citrix plugin for remote desktop, I'm discovering that advanced security settings for Program Files are screwed up, but I am unable to adjust them. I am currently logged in as administrator and user account control settings are set to "never notify". Please see the attached screenshot. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Permission / Advanced Security Settings issue with Program Files

What is the image you posted supposed to show? I don't see anything wrong. It's normal for Trusted Install to own the operating system directory trees like Program Files, Program Data, Windows, etc.

Your looks the same as mine:

Are you logged in as the normally hidden Administrator account or are you logged in as an Administrator level account?

I have successfully configured my server to allow SSH connections using OpenSSH. I'm able to log in as an administrator and browse files by command line.

When I don't use UNC for my home directories (as I do with my domain under user accounts so I have a home directory) I am able to browse files within Filezilla.

The problem is that I *cannot* log into the SFTP site with an account if it does not have administrative rights. Is there a specific right that I need to grant to that user account using ntrights.exe? I'm baffled. So close, yet still so insecure.

I'm tempted to just use FTPS with Serv-U or something. Can't remember if that will run as a service.

Oh, I'm using Windows 2003, Enterprise Edition (MSDNAA)

Thanks in advance, and if you require any additional information, please let me know!

My next step will to be able to figure out how to apply virtual directories for my users.

Edit: Oh, and yes, the users do have permission to access their home directories.

I wonder if the forum you give courses on the method of disinfection. your approach to the problem is logical to look at the operation of the computer before to see if the computer is infected.
So if you are organizing courses I'd like to participate.

The malware removal forum here says that only "authorized personnel" are allowed to respond to help requests.  Perhaps you could contact one of the moderators of that forum and ask how to go about becoming authorized.  I know that some other computer forums have actual classes to teach malware removal; this one might too.

I just migrated data from my old WinXP computer to my new Win7 computer. I noticed that I cannot open the migrated folder c:\documents and settings\user\my documents\ - access is denied.

I changed permissions to allow administrators Full Control of this folder, and the user read/write access. I also took ownership of the folder as an Administrator. However, there is a "Deny" permission which prohibits Everyone from Listing the folder/Reading data. "Deny" permissions override "Allow" permissions, so I can't open the folder even as an Admin with Full Control + Ownership. I tried to remove the "Deny" permission, but it said I was not authorized to do so and told me to try taking Ownership to get authorization. I already have Ownership, so I'm stuck here.

Does anyone know how to remove the "Deny" permission?

Answer:How to remove Uninherited "Deny" permission on specific folder?

The data is in C:\Users not Documents and Settings, it is just a junction that points to C:\Users you need to leave it alone.
