Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling error

Question: Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling error

My L500 fan is no longer working correctly

I am getting this message

Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.

The fan runs inconsistently (always for a few seconds on start-up, very sporadically the rest of the time, but it is completely stationary for the most part.

The computer is currently in pieces, and I am ready to replace the fan with a new one, however im not sure that will fix the problem (as the fan still seems to sometimes run).

Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling error

Are you going to replace the fan or the entire cooling heatsink and fan? Was the heatsink clogged with dust? Keep in mind, this also may be a motherboard issue

i have a toshiba satellite and on the back it says the model name is satellite l500-1dt.
i am new to this website and using forums, the message that comes up on my computer is

system warning
Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.

i am currently working in the alps and do not have an english speaking computer shop near by.
could any one help me and advise me what to do, i do not know much about taking a laptop apart to clean or change parts.

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling fan has stopped working

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

Hi. New user to the forum and new owner of a Toshiba.

I am trying to create the 4 recovery discs for my Toshiba satellite L500-12E. Discs 1, 2 & 4 created successfully, but disc 3 failed two times. The message I received onscreen was: Failed to read the following file: F:backslash ZZImg backslash 09753xsp6.swm Error Code: 020150-20-00000000
( I cannot get the computer to type a backslash on this window)

Anyone know of a similar problem or a solution?

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite L500-19Z and I keep getting the "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service" message.

The cooling system is apparently working fine: PC health monitor says the fan is working, and using Speedfan I can see that the temperature is kept below about 53 degrees celsisus. I think I can hear the fan working and the openings at the side and bottom of the laptop are entirely clear.

I live in a cold area and don't use the computer for any processing-intensive activities, so there wouldn't be a reason for the computer to get hot anyway, as far as I know.

Please help.

Answer:Cooling System warning on Satellite L500-19Z

I think I've fixed it. I disabled all Toshiba startup programs and performed a disk check on the main harddisk. Now the error message is gone and the cooling system is actually working slightly better, keeping everything below 40 degrees celsius.

Any idea what might have happened or if it will reappear?

I bought my first toshiba laptop last saturday, and i find it wierd that the cooling fan works around 80%(data taken from the software provided: PC Toshiba Monitor Health) all the time i have the laptop on, it never slows or stops...nothing exept full throttle.

It keeps its cool, thats a fact, but its pretty noisy and while surfing the web or working on microsoft office for example, it can be pretty anoying and energy demanding.

Another thing i question is, in a long term, how healthy is the fact of the fan working non-stop at this amount of speed for the laptop? Should i be concerened and maby taking it to be checked by the store i bought it? Or its normal?

Below is a link of a screenshot i took from the numbers i'm talking about:

thankx for your help :D

Answer:Satellite L500-19f cooling fan works non-stop

Try please to reduce it changing cooling method options in Toshiba power settings.
Start > Control Panel > Power settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Toshiba Power Saver > Cooling method > change it to ?Battery optimized?.

Maybe this will help you.

Dear Toshiba,

Perhaps some can explain for me how this happens.

We have 2 x L500 laptops, One was purchased and activated on a day July 2010 ( Machine1 )
The other was purchased 1 day later from the same store and activated on the same day - 1 day later ( machine 2)

Yesterday, machine 1 responded with the Warning message, there is a problem with the cooling system - please shut down the machine and return it for service.

Today machine 2 responded with the exact same message, just after being switched on after 4 hours unusual situation you say or is it some sort of built in : service generating feature ???
I am not convinced it's a fluke and there was nothing wrong with either machine that I could see.

Anyway a reboot of each machine fixed the problem, see how long it takes to return.
As you guessed it , both machines are out of warranty by a few months now.

If any of you have a similar problem, would be glad to hear from you.

Answer:Satellite L500: Warning : Problem with Cooling system message

A friend of mine has got the Satellite L500. As far as I know the notebook runs pretty well.

I?m not sure if this message has been created due to a software issue but the notebook should shuts down automatically if the cooling modules would not work properly and if the temperature would goes up to a higher level?

So I recommend watching the temp level for the next time and of course you could get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country if would notice higher temp or some hardware issue with the cooling module?

I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:

1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7

2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.

3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.

4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)

Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more

Answer:Cannot run the OS on Toshiba Satellite L500

Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.

PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.

edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W downgrade to XP

Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.

Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.

Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.

Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.

Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

I have this laptop with 3 Partitions

The main partition got corrupted and apparently wiped so all windows folders have been deleted and a low level format carried out

I still have the recovery sector

Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition

I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options"

I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?

Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ?

I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v, and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.

I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.

Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?

Best regards,

Answer:CPU temperature in Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef

Hi mate

It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.

The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

No disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 not working, No disply

If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

What is it with Toshiba? The part number is clearly printed on the label on the underside of the laptop but the corresponding part number appears nowhere on the Toshiba support pages. This seems to occur with most Toshiba laptops that I have ever had anything to do with. Trying to find drivers, BIOS etc is a real PITA. I'm trying to find downloads for a Satellite L500 PSLS6A-00X013 but it doesn't show up any where. The serial number search is as useless as the part number search. Am I missing something?

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The HDMI port on my Satellite L500 laptop is not sending information to my sony bravia tv. All was working fine up until a couple of days ago. When i plug the hdmi lead into the port, it seems as if the laptop is aware it's plugged in as the screen flickers. The fn +F5 keys do as they should, but no picture appears on the tv. The tv shows a lead is plugged in also and again the screen flicks to say a source is there but then remains black. I can't see an issue in device manager and all drivers are saying they're up to date. I have also tried a new hdmi lead but nothing. Can anyone help with this?

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 HDMI no longer works.

Try running a System Restore back to a previous point when it was working.

If still not working uninstall and re-install the graphics drivers from the Toshiba Support site for your model.

Answer:Wireless not working in toshiba satellite l500 in windows 7

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." OK so i have just received an older laptop that im trying to resurrect.

O/S : Windows 7Model : Toshiba satellite L500 PSLS3A-04M002Battery model NO : PA3534U-1BRS
It died a few days ago and refuses to boot, press the power button -> power LED glows briefly and goes out.
As it's a smart battery you can't boot directly off the AC adaptor because it's expecting a signal over the SMBus (IIRC) power LED doesn't even light up with A/C only with the battery is removed.
I believe it's the battery.
First because i disassembled the laptop, cleaned it, and put it back together, nothing seemed wrong with other system components.
Second, it's only a small 3620mAh Li-ion that (AFAIK) hasn't been changed since the laptop was bought (roughly 2011/2012) so im thinking the charge cycles have been well and truly used up.
OK no problem, searched around online using the battery model number (above), found a replacement

Cool, battery's enroute, should be here in the next few days.

Now the interesting part... When i go on Toshiba's site to look for some specs/drivers... the Laptop model doesn't exist, even under the discontinued models section... But there are a whole bunch of other models :
(click on the little arrow)

Also, there's no live / website or email based technical support :

When you have connected HDMI cable to external (other) screen, use FN+F5 and switch to this external display only. When you see desktop on the external display start Toshiba DVD player and I think everything should be OK.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.

Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.

On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.

Does anyone have a more precise solution?

The cooling fan on an old Toshiba Satellite L30 - 105 runs normally for some time then stops then revs up to high rpm before running normally again. I have cleaned the fan and it spins freely but it makes no difference when powered on. The fan appears to be in working order as when I boot into the Bios Setup it runs at constant speed, however, when I boot into Windows Vista Basic the problem occurs. I have tried adjusting the power settings in Vista (there appears to be no speciific setting for the cooling fan) but to no avail. I have also searched the Bios settings but there is nothing to adjust there either. I have checked the CPU and hard drive operating temps and it is not overheating as all are within safe limits. Could any one advise me if there is a Bios update for this machine which will fix the problem as I cannot find an update for this model on the Toshiba UK web site. Thanks.

I have had this computer for i think almost a year, the message didn't pop up until we had installed Triad Wars, when we had installed it I had put it in a case to download the game. The next morning I got the computer out and it was extremly hot. I didn't have the message pop up until maybe around 2 or 3 days after we had downloaded the game. I had had this problem for a while now but it just pops up randomly.... because I would close out of it and it wouldn't come back for a while. Now the message won't stop popping up but at one random point it went I think a week or two without popping up when I had sat it on a desk. After I moved it, it started popping up again... Now it won't quit.. I had downloaded CPUID HWMonitor to monitor the temp. Sometimes the message pops up at 45%, 55%, and in the 60's and 70's.. Sometimes... Sorry I wasn't exactly sure where to post this thread

I looked up how to remove this warning that keeps coming up on this forum earlier and followed the procedure someone posted about renaming a file called TWARNMSG.EXE. i couldn't find that file, and as the problems and the make of laptop were slightly different, I thought I'd post my issue.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16W and I have a message that keeps coming up every ~20 seconds headed "System Warning" and reads: "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. (Next Line) Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

I have had this warning coming up for months and tolerated it but it has gotten worse and annoyed me for the last time. I can hear the fan, and the computer is not over heating. No other issues arise like the computer slowing down, it just gets in the way of what I am doing, like typing right now. As I have typed, it's already popped up 6-7 times.

Please help soon, this is preventing me from gaming and even other things by now.

Answer:Repetitive cooling system warning -- Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16W

I'm going to have your thread moved to a more appropriate forum. Please stay subscribed.

Note: TWarnMsg twarnmsg.exe > Toshiba System Warning Function for Windows 98, Me, 2000 - provides notification dialog when the cooling fan stops ...

This is a valid program, but it is up to you whether or not you want it to run on startup.
There are some rogue programs that give fake alerts or 'critical system messages.' But this isn't one of them. It is specific to the brand of system you have. It might be that someone in the other forum has another idea- but my suggestion would be to take it to a show and have them open and clean out the box.

I have a Satellite L500-202 Toshiba Laptop.
I wanted to reinstall Win 7 on on it, but i can not install it and display a error Bios.

In setup setting display a ! in front of HDD.
What is problem?

Answer:Re: Satellite L500-202 - Bios Error - ! in front of HDD

Please try to set the BIOS to default using F9 button in BIOS.
To access the BIOS press F2 immediately after notebook has powered up.
Then press f9 and save the changes?

I recommend testing the HDD as well.... use a tool called "Drive Fitnes Test" for that...

When I startup I get an error message "An error occurred. Error # -5".
The message invites me to "Visit for more information."

I have visited the website but have not been able to find the error message mentioned and I am directed to my software supplier for a solution. Can anyone give me help to identify the error? At this stage I can say that this error message does not appear when I load Windows 7 on my Desktop Computer.

There was the user with the same error ,, "An error occurred. Error # -5,,. It's Installshield update informer that is not important, you can just remove it from autostartup in msconfig. It won't appear anymore

Answer:Satellite L500-19X - Error code when trying to burn to DVD

What program you are using for burning disks?
What operating system is installed?
What kind of blank DVDs you use?

To be honest I can?t say something about this and one sentence description is too short in this case.

I would recommend using high quality mediums from Verbatim or TDK. I have good experience with DVD-R mediums instead DVD+R.

There is no relation between Bios and hard drive. They will reflash your Bios, all data on you hard drive will be untouched. But you should know that Bios reflash is not free procedure, you will have to pay.

I've just boupght a Satellite L500 and have installed some of the software from my old laptop. Whenever I boot up I noew get an error message telling me that I need NET. framework version 2. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this error message?

Answer:NET Framework error message on Satellite L500

What to say? seems the old installed software needs framework 2.
Possibly it?s not compatible with newer framework?

Maybe you should remove the installed framework from the system firstly.
Then after new reboot and registry cleaning (using CCleaner for example) you could install framework 2 again?

Good luck

I have a Satellite L500-12Q laptop. I used the Recovery Disc Creator to make the recovery discs. It needs 4 discs. The 1st was writtenk ok, but on the second, near the end of the progress, it stopped advancing. It is almost an hour, and it is still not finished. I am on the second try. The disc is spinning and the drive makes noise as if it were writing, but it doesn't advance at all.

Please, could you help me?

Hey Claudiu,

What kind of DVD you are using to create the Toshiba recovery disks? I did also had some problems to create a recovery disk but I changed the media from DVD+R to DVD-R and all was ok!!! I used Verbatim disks for creating because I have really good experience with this kind of disks. Furthermore it seems that TDK disks also work pretty well. Check this!!!

If it doesn?t work check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of your ODD!

So last night I went to reformat my laptop, halfway through I thought nah I don't wanna do this anymore so I clicked cancel. Now whenever I try to turn on my laptop, it just gives me the ERROR saying F3-F200-0002 and won't startup. I have tried pressing F8 on startup, but there is no option for recovery or repair in the menu, just safe mode, debugging mode etc.

I was browsing the forums and found out I should press 0 constantly while the laptop is booting and it will bring up the recovery wizard. Anyway, when I do this it says HDD recovery mode then it says Windows is loading files, then it goes to a page saying ERROR F3-FF00-0006.

I have been told to download this file ( but I don't know how to make it work on my laptop that is broken (I'm on my nans computer at the moment). I have tried putting it onto a USB and slotting the USB in, but it won't work.

I need help urgently as I use my laptop for my job (I work from home, using the laptop). It would be alot to mean if you could help me fix it from home, as I do not have money at the moment to be able to purchase a recovery disk or send the computer shop for a professional to fix.

P.S I am on Windows7 and my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L500.

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 - F3-F200-0002 ERROR on STARTUP

As far as I know recovery installation should not be interrupted. If you do this you will not have access to recovery wizard anymore. All you can do now is to install recovery image using recovery DVD.

Have you created one? If not you can order it under

Other way you can try to install own OS version if you have original Microsoft installation disc.
You know, the whole situation is pretty complicated now.

By the way: in one other posting with similar problem description some people wrote that this error message can be caused by damaged HDD. I cannot confirm this but everything is possible.

i googled about CRC errors, but i think i can rule out most of those things like cable, scratches on the disc, loose connections a.s.o. unless it's something related to hdd.... but i could install non-oem vista without any probs, so not sure if it's really hdd related.

Hi folks,

I'm running windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite L500-1XL.

About 6 weeks ago, Windows refused to load.
I'd get the 'Toshiba' screen and then Windows startup splash, but then nothing but a black screen with a (moveable) mouse icon.

i couldn't get into safe mode, and Toshiba's built in recovery utility wouldn't work.
Even using the Toshiba 'Product Recovery" DVD was doing nothing, although the disk was making a few strange and repetitive clicks during that, so I suspected a faulty hard drive. (Possibly where the MBR was OK, but the data wasn't?)

Anyway I put in a replacement HDD (backups are a wonderful thing BTW!) and the recovery DVD loaded perfectly and all seemed well.

About 2 weeks later, I got the same problem
('Toshiba' screen Windows startup splash, but then nothing but a black screen with a (moveable) mouse icon; no safe mode; no recovery utility)

This time, however the Product recovery DVD worked fine first time.

Another 2 weeks go by and the same problem happens again; this time it took another HDD for the recovery media to work.

So my question is really what could be causing this fault?

Could it be a virus which is corrupting something which is preventing Windows from loading? And 'preventing' it so much that I can't even load the recovery utilities?

In which case could it also prevent the Product recovery DVD from loading?

Or am I looking at an intermittent fault with the HDD connector which is either physically d... Read more

Answer:Satellite L500-1XL - Strange Windows 7 Error - Virus Or Hardware fault?

> So my question is really what could be causing this fault?
I doubt it?s a virus or something like that but nothing is impossible.

From my experience the data on the HDD can be affected by different software tools.
In my case the data on the HDD was corrupt because the 3rd party software changed some files and the boot master record has been damaged.
I formatted the HDD and created new partitions.

I also use the CCleaner and I defragment the HDD several times in the week.
Since than the HDD and the data is ok and didn?t notice such symptoms anymore.

Maybe you should try this too?

Hello, I bought Toshiba L500 in January but I haven't been able to update it with Tempro since May. Towards the end of setup, setup crashes and it says the following in Turkish:

If I translate it briefly,

"Error 1722. There is a problem with his Windows Installer package. The program working as a part of the setup didn't finish as expected. Apply your support service or package seller."

I download the Tempro setup file, but whenever I start setup, it always says so. How can I update my laptop?

I use for about year a SATELLITE P70-A-129 laptop.

Lately I get quite frequently a warning message on the desktop:

Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.

Answer:Satellite P70-A-129 - cooling system error message

I assume the message looks like this one:

Hmm? did you notice some strange noises which could appear due to faulty cooling fan/module?
How about the internal temperature? Did it increase?

From my knowledge such message appeared due to software bug. The update of Toshiba Value Added package has solved the problem?
But the VAP was available for Win Vista / 7 and your notebook seems to be preinstalled with Win 8.1.
I think you should simply check if your system is up to date. (also BIOS)

In case everything is up to date, get in contact with Toshiba ASP because it could be possible that your cooling system malfunctions?

Hi there,

sounds something went wrong after the cleanup. I recommend you to send your machine immediately to an service partner and let them check your machine because the notebook could have some serious hardware malfunction.

Before sending your machine to them I would check the cable of the cooling fan and reattach it, maybe this could remove the error message.

So, I have this problem that my fan stops spinning when the system is under load and then turns on, starts spinning at 100% speed, an error pops up which says error with cooling system, return laptop for service.

The fan doesn't slow down even when the laptop cools down completely, it only returns to normal speeds after I shut down the laptop.

In a recent couple of days, that has stopped completely. Now, the fan doesn't even go over mid speeds even though the CPU temperature is at 80C. Because of the bad cooling, the temps hover around 70C even when idling.

The laptop is almost a year old. I already had this problem after a week from buying it and they replaced my processor. I have windows 7 x64, amd 7670m and i3 2350m.

I'm just wondering can this be a BIOS problem or do I need to take it back for service again? How do I stop this from happening? And yes, my power plan is on high performance.

Answer:Satellite L850 - cooling error and slow fan speed even when CPU at 80C

As far as I know cooling fan is controlled automatically so you don?t have any influence on it. Temperature sensors are placed on the mainboard and they control cooling fan activity. Only one possibility to change cooling fan activity is to change option in ?Cooling method? option (advanced power settings > Toshiba power saver settings).

In my opinion best solution for you is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider again and ask for help.
They have diagnostic tools and can check all this.

I have a SP6100 and it keeps giving me an error message regarding the cooling fan not working. It then tells me to shut down immediatley and runs very slow. The fan does come on, but after three or four short bursts it stops and the message comes up.
Is this a mechanical problem with the fan? I took out the heatsink and fan and it was clean and not sticking.
Could it be a system problem? The BIOS has recently been updated.
Should I just invest in a new cooling unit, and if so where could I get one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100: error message - cooling fan doesn't work

Chances are that your fan either came unplugged or malfunctioned and fails to initialize. You can get one at your nearest Authorized Service Provider. They will even replace it, cept it costs a little bit more. If you know how to do it, you can have them order it and install it yourself. Thing is if you let them do it, they will test your computer and make sure that is the defective part so you do not spend money needlessly. But that is up to you in how much you want to spend/do. Hi all,

Hope I can get some help here. I've had about 5 HP laptops after all of them had problems and faults. I got sick of them and therefore got a refund and bought a high spec A660-1FH.

The A660 has been a great laptop for two days until yesterday when I started getting a warning message saying 'A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service'.

The cpu fan works fine as you can here it spinning and the temperature of the i5-460m processor is around 40 degrees for both cores - which seems normal to me. I've noted that it happens only when running on battery and if you switch from eco utility to power saver mode. Its fine when running on the 'balanced' power setting. The fan is louder before when this message appears.

As its under 28 days my retailer swapped it for a brand new one straight away. Got the new one home, and the same message appears again. Has anyone else experienced this. As two laptops have had this, I'm wondering if this is normal for the A660 series laptop or if there is really a hardware issue?!

I have tried to upgrade eco utility and the bios of the laptop but both are the latest versions. Can anyone help or share if they experience a similar issue with their laptop?

Hi Forum,

I have a Toshiba L500 Laptop that suddenly stopped booting. When I try to boot it, it does not complete the POST process and there is no indication of what is wrong. The screen is just blank.

The fan turns on and I hear it spinning. Also, I momentarily hear the HDD spinning before it stops. I know there is power to the HDD, USB ports and the optical drive.

However, there is no power going to the keyboard as the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED does not light up after I press it.

I have tried testing the CMOS battery, changing the HDD and the F2 and BACKSPACE key test without any success.

I am interested to know:

1. In what sequence does the POST process test the attached devices/peripherals?
2. Are there any suggestions as to what might be faulty and how best to fix this?

Your assistance is much appreciated,

Hi there,

I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.

I am trying to install windows 7 onto a Toshiba satellite L500.

It copies the files, expands, reboots. then is says it is installing the registry.

about 30 seconds into installing system services the screen turns black, as if their is no signal.

any help???

Answer:Toshiba L500 black screen on win 7 install

Installing from where? A DVD? Did you format the drive before installing it? Did the laptop work fine before you started the reinstall or was there a problem that made you do this?

There are 3 external USB ports on this L500 modelPSLS6C-00F005. The one on the front right has developed a problem. Nothing is recognized when plugged in. An unrecognized device error pops randomly even with nothing plugged in to the front port. When the error pops the other 2 ports stop working momentarily. For instance the wired mouse I have connected to the working port will stop, then be re-detected. The trackpad always works.
While running windows 7, I fiddled with drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling USB components in device manager and I disabled the faulty device but the error returns. I found that disabling the usb hub component made the error go away. Unfortunately the other 2 ports are attached to the same hub so I lose all usb functionality.
I decided to try and do a fresh and clean install of Windows 10 in hopes of curing the USB issue but that didn't do the trick. I found I can turn off the annoying error notification and that the error is a bit more descriptive "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) driver error.
Disabling the device in device manager seems to lessen the problem but in Windows 10 the device keeps getting re-enabled.
Does anybody have any idea what I might do towards correcting this issue, although I expect it's a hardware problem. Is there a way to permanently disable that one particular usb port?

Hi all,
I was uninstalling AVG and my syatem would get the BSOD and xrash before I completed it.

Eventuallt my whole system crashed and all I get is a message on a black screen fron Phoenix Technologies aaying 'Boot from BBS-harddisk'.

Anyone know what this means and if this screen can be bypassed. I can't use f2, f8 or f12.

Answer:Toshiba L500 crash - boot from BBS Harddisk message

Hi, I did a lookup on that and it is related to the hard drive. BBs mean Bios Boot Specification

The recommendation is to unscrew the cover over the hard drive and remove the drive. Then replace it and make sure it seated snug. Put the cover back and reboot. Let us know how it goes.

Answer:Toshiba satellite hibernate error

Try closing as many background apps/tasks as you can (leaving any important or unknown ones alone) and try it again. Do the same with unplugging any peripherals you have. What is the error message?

Hey people, I'm new here looking for help with something I have been having a problem with. I'm not new to computers, but I can't figure this out and I'm hoping someone here can help.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2071 laptop that's been getting the blue screen of death a minute or two after booting up. I've looked around online and tried various methods to fix it, but being unable to use the computer itself has been making this very difficult.

For the specs, it's a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2071 laptop running Windows XP. This is a friend of mine's who is clueless about computers, and as far as I know she's never updated the BIOS or any other parts of the computer.

Anyway a few days ago it started crashing on her last week. She says she didn't update or download anything new or change any settings. After it boots up now, you have a minute or so to use the mouse and try to get into the computer, but then the screen appears:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory o... Read more

Hey guys, I'm a first time poster to this forum, and I would like to get straight to the point.

As I try to boot my computer up, I get an error saying this

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

Whenever I press r, it comes up with the same screen. Also, Yesterday my father dropped the computer straight on the wireless card, and broke the part that the wireless card is attached to on the motherboard. Could that be why? It came up with this error after I tried installing Age of Empires 2: Conquerors, I don't know what to do.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1N1 and am having some problems.

When I try to open the TREXlauncher under C:\Program Files (x86)\TOSHIBA\Addendum it comes up saying that there is an error and that the program has closed.

It creates an error log which says that there is no command line argument.
I am wondering what other peoples experiences have been of this and would appreciate any help anyone can give.

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1N1 - TOSHIBA Addendum error

I guess the TREXlauncher (Toshiba External file Launcher) loads and starts external files (manual) or notifications (recovery notification) which would appear on the desktop.

In my opinion it?s not a serious issue.
If you want, you could remove this software from the system

I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?

Answer:Satellite L500 and Satellite P200 - compatible keyboards?

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.

Hello There,

I recently purchased a Satellite C660/C660D everything is fine, apart from one or two minor issues (which this thread is about). Firstly, The laptop was and still is littered with loads of TOSHIBA random software, below is a list:

+TOSHIBA Assist+
+TOSHIBA Bulletin Board+
+TOSHIBA ConfigFree+
+TOSHIBA Disc Creator+
+TOSHIBA Face Recognition+
+TOSHIBA Flash Cards Support Utility+
+TOSHIBA Hardware Setup+
+TOSHIBA Media Controller+
+TOSHIBA Media Controller Plug-in+
+TOSHIBA Online Product Information+
+TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator+
+TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator Reminder+
+TOSHIBA ReelTime+
+TOSHIBA Service Station+
+TOSHIBA Supervisor Password+
+Toshiba TEMPRO+
+TOSHIBA Value Added Package+
+TOSHIBA Web Camera Application+

Is there a pre made ISO recovery image somewhere or do I have to make my own, because if I decide to unisntall some of these programs I might need it at a later date?

The second issue is with the TOSHIBA Accessiblity application which shows the FN keys, it does not seem to start. It worked the first day then I disabled all TOSHIBA applications from startup and I get the following error: "Registry is missing or may be broken.", I dont know why!

I have tried cleaning the registry, so the registry isnt broken.

*Thanks in Advance*

Answer:Satellite C660 - TOSHIBA Accessibility Error

Hi Humza,

I?m happy to hear that you?re an owner of Toshiba notebook too and you discovered the forum here. We can discuss everything about Toshiba notebooks, that?s interesting :)

I will try to help you to sort this out:

1.Yes, there is a premade recovery image to restore factory settings with all driver and tools on your notebook but important is you burn this image on a blank DVD using preinstalled recovery media creator. You will get a disk with an image of Windows with all drivers and tools => ?out of box settings?. So the same settings as you purchased the computer.

2.I think the FN keys don?t work anymore because you disabled some important Toshiba tools they are necessary for FN keys. For FN keys the startup items ?TOSHIBA Button Support? and ?TOSHIBA Flash Cards? are absolutely necessary so you should enable them and restart the computer.

Alright, so i have had this Toshiba Satellite A40 for some time now, and it worked fine for all my school work etc. However when i started playing some videos once in a blue moon, the system crashes and i get a driver error that my graphics driver dont work. I recently tried to install GTA VC on the computer and it work until the moment of me starting new game. or any game. It crashes and either gives me a blue screen of death or driver error. The graphics card is a intel (r) 852MG/852MGE/855MGE/855MG. The system is running windows XP Pro SP3 and has 784 or something like that mb of RAM, and 40GB hard drive, and a 2.70Ghz pentium 4 CPU please help me get this running. I downloaded my driver from the Toshiba website under the drivers for this system. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A40 graphics driver error?

The causes for this issue can be different if the issue relates solely to "games". However if as you state it is also "videos" you could try another video player. I suggest you give VLC a try and see if it makes any difference for the videos side of things. Is the video card on-board or is it an inserted card? If you have access to another video card with associated drivers/filmware that you could install at least temporarily that could help with knowing where the problem lies.truenorth

Hi all,

I keep getting the following led error code...

(L - Long, S - Short) LSSSSLSS

This repeats over and over again. I've tried researching what this code is relation to but with no joy. I suspect a motherboard issue or power microprocessor issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi this is my first time using this site. It is just that I ran into some problem whilst using my Toshiba laptop - Satellite M100. You know this one has the biosecurity thingy - fingerprint log-on. The thing is that sometime ago, my laptop got turned off suddenly for no apparent reason and from then, when I try to start it, it prompts me with the fingerprint before I get on. I enrolled my finger prints and password initially but I dont really use it hence it is somehow deactivated. I did not find these particularly useful rather found them quite annoying because sometimes they dont really read my finger prints well enough. Apparently you have only 4 tries. And, guess what. I got locked out and it wont let me use the pc coz it automatically shuts itself off!!! Now, my tech savvy bro once came at my rescue and de-activated it by dong some thing at the back of the laptop - instruction from tech savvy ppl from internet. Trouble is that my bro is away overseas for long time and I really need to get that trick coz God knows when I might get locked out. I dont really fancy the idea that the laptop outsmarts me in any future coz it has all my lifetime data and info. So anyone has ever had similar experience and knows the trick? Much appreciated

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M100 Fingerprint error

I have never had to deal with any finger print scanner before but have you tried taking the battery out and holding down the power button for a few seconds that should cycle the system firmware. Its a shot in the dark but it might work and wont hurt anything.
