Preferred Solution: Notebook Toshiba Satellite Pro L500-1T8 - Recover Win7 without partition

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have support problems with my notebook..
When I try to get support or register my Satellite, I can find my model number/serial number on any toshiba site.

When i try to valide serial number; i get this: "Spiacenti! Il numero di serie non esiste." Why???
I need drivers and software.. but i can't find it..

Model No: L500-158
Serial No: 89434057K
Part No: PSLJ3E-028023IT

Please help..

p.s. sorry for my bad English..

Answer:Satellite L500 - Cannot find notebook model on Toshiba support page

Are you using the Tempro tool in order to register the notebook?
If yes, then you should update this tool to the latest version v3.33

Check this:
+Why does TEMPRO not accept my serial number as being valid?+

Otherwise the L500-158 belongs to the PSLJ3E series and all drivers can be found on the Toshiba European driver page:

Which it should be preinstalled from Toshiba.

Hi cba1,

Is this update necessary or can you ignore this update message?
In my opinion updates only necessary if something doesn?t work properly?

I don?t use Toshiba CD creator because there are some good alternative (freeware) programs, like CD Burner XP. Have you ever heard of that?
If not it?s worth a try!!! ;)

Answer:How to recover my Toshiba Satellite L850 Win7 laptop

Could you please tell me what notebook model do you have exactly?
Did you change the Windows system in the past?

Regarding the system installation:
Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled with a Toshiba image and usually you can recover the notebook back to factory settings using the HDD recovery option or you can use the Toshiba recovery medium which you could create using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.

This software allows you to create a recovery disk or recovery flash memory stick.
In your case it would be advisable to create a flash memory stick because the notebook was not equipped with a CD/DVD drive.

I would recommend you to check the following Toshiba documents about the system recovery procedure:

How to recover a Toshiba notebook or tablet device with the HDD recovery procedure

How to use the TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator

Hi guys,

I recently bought a new Satellite L500-19X.
Had no real problems until the battery died last night and now it will not boot Wndows at all.

When i switch it on it comes up with the "Start Windows Normally" and "Launch startup repair" options. If i try and repair it loads some files then goes to a black screen with the cursor on it. If I start windows normally it just tries for a bit and goes back to those two options.

From what i've seen a lot of people have had similar problems, all o the sugested solutions have been unsuccessful for me though.

Can't load safe mode. Tried using the recovery disc that was provided and that just leads to the same black screen with the cursor. Also tried booting up without the bttery etc. that also didnt work.

I'm running (or at least trying to run) windows 7 which is already installed on the hardrive.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, ive tried pretty much everything though.

Cheers for your time. Any help would be great.

Answer:Cannot recover my Satellite L500-19X

Hmm?. you?ve got a blinking courser in the upper left corner?
This looks more like an HDD or partition issue?

But try this:
Power up the unit and press F8.
Then choose ?Repair my Computer? and then choose (if possible) HDD Recovery.

If this is not possible then go to BIOS and check if the HDD is recognized (all details should appear).
If HDD is not recognized, then this would mean that your HDD is faulty.

If the HDD is recognized then there could be something wrong with a partition on the HDD?

In such case you could try to create an bootable system disk like WinPE:

Then could format the HDD again and after that could use the recovery disk in order to reinstall the Win 7.

Hello guys,

I bought a Satellite L500 with Windows Vista...unfortunately I am not a Vista-lover, so I installed the good old WXP.
However, I forgot to burn a copy of the vista-version.

Then I realized that there are no xp-drivers available for the Satellite. So I installed the vista-drivers. Almost everything worked, except the graphics drivers.
My notebook, of course, now uses the default graphics drivers from windows, but now everything is distorted.
Now my question: Is there a way to recover Vista? Of course, I own a product key that I have acquired with the purchase of the notebook.
I have also a Vista CD from my other computer, but it does not accept the product key from the notebook.

Thanks for your help!

ps: Sorry for bad english ;)

I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:

1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7

2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.

3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.

4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)

Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more

Answer:Cannot run the OS on Toshiba Satellite L500

Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.

PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.

edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v, and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.

I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.

Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?

Best regards,

Answer:CPU temperature in Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef

Hi mate

It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.

The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W downgrade to XP

Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.

Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.

Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.

Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.

Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition

I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?

I'm new to this forum but not new to using Toshiba products.
Anyway, about a couple of weeks ago I started having problems with
my USB ports in the sense that they all started to die one by one: first
the upper right, then the lower to be followed shortly by the Sata/USB combo
port on the left(kept my mouse adapter there).

I have not used anything other than the regular on my USB ports, you know memory
sticks, external HDD(I used a Toshiba StoreArt 1TB), my mouse and pretty much it.
Naturally I started looking for a solution to my problem and tried everything, except
for a BIOS update.

I don't know what else to do, so I hope smbd having dealt with the same problem
can help me restore my USB ports functionality.

I'll post some screenshots:

Answer:Unknown device under USB on my Satellite L500-1XZ notebook

Hello and welcome to Toshiba support forum.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there and give you exact diagnostic. In my opinion BIOS update is, at the moment, not necessary.
I don?t know if you have installed some additions software for usage with some external device but what you can try now is to reinstall chipset driver.

I have checked Toshiba download page and your notebook is supported for Win7 32 and 64bit so you can find it there. I wanted to post link here but I don?t know which version do you use.

Please do it at first and post some feedback.

No disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 not working, No disply

If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

I see that I have three Primary partitions already made on this new L500 ~
1.) 2GiB /dev/hda1 for Toshiba Recovery,
2.) 330+GiB (C:) for Vista and 3.) 12GiB /dev/hda3 ???.

I need to dual boot two windows installations and use and extended partition for Linux and Storage.

What is the third partition for and can I configure things so that I can save it within a Logical Partition ?

My aim is:

/dev/hda1 = Toshiba Recovery
/dev/hda2 = Vista
/dev/hda3 = Windows 7 ~ RC7
/dev/hda4 = Extended for all others ( including Linux, the 12GiB existing and a common storage space as well.)

Any suggestions or thoughts before I dive in ?

Regards, SnapafunFrank

Answer:Satellite L500 - What is the third partition on HDD?

The third partition belongs to Vista.
Vista creates two partitions; one a usual partition to install system and the second hidden partition for backup files. These backup files are important for Vista. Vista needs it to repair the OS if something will go wrong?

So it?s strongly recommended to leave this partition on the HDD?

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling fan has stopped working

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

OK so i have just received an older laptop that im trying to resurrect.

O/S : Windows 7Model : Toshiba satellite L500 PSLS3A-04M002Battery model NO : PA3534U-1BRS
It died a few days ago and refuses to boot, press the power button -> power LED glows briefly and goes out.
As it's a smart battery you can't boot directly off the AC adaptor because it's expecting a signal over the SMBus (IIRC) power LED doesn't even light up with A/C only with the battery is removed.
I believe it's the battery.
First because i disassembled the laptop, cleaned it, and put it back together, nothing seemed wrong with other system components.
Second, it's only a small 3620mAh Li-ion that (AFAIK) hasn't been changed since the laptop was bought (roughly 2011/2012) so im thinking the charge cycles have been well and truly used up.
OK no problem, searched around online using the battery model number (above), found a replacement

Cool, battery's enroute, should be here in the next few days.

Now the interesting part... When i go on Toshiba's site to look for some specs/drivers... the Laptop model doesn't exist, even under the discontinued models section... But there are a whole bunch of other models :

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." I have installed Vista 64bit, and I want to upgrade to Windows 7 since it is more compatible

Do I need special drivers for this and where can I get them?
And will all Toshiba applications and software work properly?

Answer:Satellite L500 -13T - from Vista to Win7 - HOW?

I recommend clean install!
This means that you should boot from the Windows 7 DVD and should install it instead of Vista.
You could format the whole HDD!

But please create the recovery disk firstly. This could be helpful if you would like to go back to Vista in the future?

The Win 7 drivers should be published on the Toshiba European driver page.
If you will not find the drivers at this time then you should take a look in the next few days?
I noticed that Toshiba releases the drivers every day for different models?.

Answer:Satellite L500-125 - WIN7 upgrade

Hey if Toshiba offers Win7 drivers this is evidence that you can run Win7 on your notebook.
I have installed Win7 on old L300 and it runs perfectly.

Install Win7, install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities and everything will be OK.

If you need some assistance with Win7 installation let us know.

Hi everyone, New on here so I hope someone can help.

I recently bought a Satellite L500 with Vista OS. I upgraded to Windows 7 with a Toshiba upgrade disk. After upgrading I could no longer use the FN keys to turn my touchpad back on.
I had to get a bluetooth mouse to be able to use a pointing device. Can anyone help me to get the FN keys working again.
Thanks in advance. Mickbarker57.

I found Toshiba drivers for this notebook model? so this means that Toshiba DOES support this model.

To be honest I don?t know 100% what your problem is.
If you want to watch DVD movie on your computer using Toshiba DVD player but the pic should be shown on the external display please do as follow:

When you have connected HDMI cable to external (other) screen, use FN+F5 and switch to this external display only. When you see desktop on the external display start Toshiba DVD player and I think everything should be OK.

I have Toshiba L500 and I have problem with my software. When I start the Windows the PC freeze and I see black screen and the mouse. I tried to start it in safe mode but then the PC just restart and safe mode doesn't work.

After that I played the recovery CD but the same thing like safe mode....When I start Safe mode with the recovery CD I reach to something but my option is to Erase the whole hard disk. Then I tried to start live Ubuntu CD to take my files but the computer restart again.... I don't have any Ideas if anybody can help me is welcomed :)

Answer:Win7 doesn't start on my Satellite L500

If you want to backup the date, the Recovery disk would not help you.
The recovery disk set the notebook to factory settings and this means that HDD will be formatted.

If you need the data from the HDD, you could remove the HDD from the notebook and could connect it to another computer using the USB to SATA controller (2.5? USB enclosure).
In such case you could get access to the files on the HDD but this would work only if the HDD would not be faulty?

I bought my L500-208 a few years ago, with Windows7 64bit.
My activation-Key is on the bottom, but its not really readable completely anymore. I still got the bill included the bill of the license key (Windows7 64bit).
How do i get my activatino-key back. Is there any way to get it?

Thank you for your helpp,

Answer:Win7 Windows key on my Satellite L500 is not readable

Maybe it sounds stupid now but it is not important if this product key is readable or not. It is just evidence that you have bought notebook with preinstalled OS and valid licence key.

This key belongs to original preinstalled OS (recovery image) and this original recovery image must not be activated. You can install it 1000 times and it will be activated every time after clean installation.

In case that you want to install other OS version this key cannot be used for activation. Simply put, this key is useless.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.

Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.

On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.

Does anyone have a more precise solution?

Answer:Toshiba Service Station has stopped working - Satellite L500 PSLS0A

Service Station is not currently active in Australia, so you can simply uninstall it.

I've bought a new Toshiba Satellite L500-19E with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). So far, everything's working brilliant.
I've already created the recovery dvds.
Therefore, could I now delete the partition with the recovery programm? I want to use the full space of my hdd and create partitions as I want.
But I don't know how I should do this?
Could you please help me?

Answer:Satellite L500-19E - Deleting recovery partition and create new

If you are 100% sure the created recovery DVDs are ok you can remove all saved data on second partition.
Open Windows Explorer and on the left side where is second partition listed click with right mouse button on it and choose option FORMAT.
Choose Quick format option and click on START.

After minute or two all data will be gone.

Please note: in the future when you want to use recovery DVD for Win7 installation the whole HDD will be deleted and you will lose all your data.
Using recovery DVD you cannot format partition C only.

I've had a message from the action center on my laptop saying that the Disk where my backups are being saved doesn't have enough space.

The Data (D) drive has 8.33 GB free out of 232 GB. Please can someone tell me (in simple terms) how to resolve this, free up space on the (D) drive & ensure that the backups don't fill it up again.

Answer:Satellite L500 (Win7) - Data Drive is full

I assume you?ve got two partitions on HDD.
1st partition C is the system partition where the Win 7 is installed.
2nd partition D contains recovery files which are needed to recover the notebook from HDD and to create a recovery disk.

If your D partition is full, move some files like mp3, movie or image files to C partition.

Additionally I recommend installing the CCleaner tool. Its freeware software which helps you to delete temporal stored files which are mostly not needed.

I hope I understand your question right so here is what I know about it:
When you upgrade original preinstalled Vista you don't need to activate Win7 but if you make clean Win7 installation then you must activate preinstalled version.

With other words to have activations-free Win7 you must install Vista at first using Toshiba recovery DVD and then upgrade it to Win7.

I have recently Installed Windows 7 64 bit onto my Mother's Laptop (L500 - PSLJ0A-01E013) and from downloading either version of flash cards from the support site ( [here|] )

Results in (from what I can tell) only kenotify.exe and the relevant install info being created. Using the other one results in the original one being uninstalled, and then the same thing happening. While kenotify is running, noting happens if I use FN-F6 (brightness down) or FN-F7 (bright up) or any of the other ones.

Also, Toshiba support station doesn't seem to find any "updates" for the software, and it doesn?t even want me to download the BIOS update which I haven't got.

Answer:Satellite L500-1CQ and Win7 - CDs play poorly after importing onto iTunes

Possibly iTunes muddled the OS and therefore the disk are not running properly.
Try this:
Remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list in the device manager.
Then access the registry (regedit.exe) and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

In many cases this short procedure helped.

Good afternoon everybody!
I summarize how the issue object of this thread has appeared.

The internal 320 GB broke out due to fatigue. Then, I decided to replace it with a used 500 GB HDD (that is the only minimum HDD capacity found on several marketplaces). The hardware substitution was done easily following a technical tutorial found on the web.

I managed (with many troubles) to reinstalling the original OS (Windows Vista HP) using recovery disks and setting the SATA mode from ?AHCI? to ?Compatibility?. Once the installation steps were completed, I rebooted the system setting another time the ?AHCI? mode from BIOS. Entering the system there was the installation of chipset and HDD driver controllers.

Using the DVDs purchased by Toshiba, I went on performing the Windows 7 HP update. Like Windows Vista, I had to change the SATA mode from ?AHCI? to ?Compatibility? to perform the installation.

Once the installation was completed, like in Vista, I rebooted the system setting changing another time the SATA controller mode to ?AHCI? from BIOS. Now, differently from Vista, I get a blue screen with error ?STOP 0x0000007B? that I could avoid only re-changing the SATA mode to ?Compatibility?.

Other strange thing: booting OS in ?compatibility? the installed software ?Intel Matrix Storage Manager? does not load plug-ins. If I try to upgrade to the newer version downloaded from Toshiba website the installation does not start due to the error ?The computer does not meet the minimum r... Read more

I've tried to reinstall Windows 7 on Satellite L500-19x but it won't complete - every time I boot up laptop a white splash screen appears saying "preparing to install...may take a few minutes" but this never disappears...can get out of this screen by starting task manager and hitting escape a few times.

This message is very strange. Had read in internet about similar issues but the issues were always related to the registry problems.
In most cases the error message appeared trying to repair the Windows OS.

Did you try to make a clean installation?
I think you should format the HDD firstly before trying to install the Win 7.
Hopefully everything would be erased from HDD before starting the setup installation?

You cannot force HDD recovery to run properly. From my experience I can just say: either it works or not. If not only option to install recovery image is using recovery media.

To be honest I don?t understand why you didn?t create recovery media as described in user?s manuals.

Set BIOS to default settings and try again. If you will be faced with the same problem either order original recovery disc or try to install OS using Microsoft installation disc. On this way you can check HDD functionality.

So last night my laptop, a Toshiba satellite running win 8, decided to lunch itself with a random restart. I didn't drop it or hit it, or give it any reason to complain about how it's been handled.

On restarting, it got stuck in the seemingly very well known diagnosing problems/repairing disk errors prompt loop. I left it all night to do it's thing, which by this morning turned out to have been absolutely nothing.
I have since been scouring forums all over trying to find out how to access some kind of recovery menu to just start from square one with a fresh reinstall.

So, as I have been led to believe, this is possible either through holding 0 on startup for a recovery menu, or through f12 for the boot menu. Both are easily accessible, but unfortunately completely useless. I selected the option yes to enter the recovery menu and was rewarded with the laptop returning to it's repair loop. I selected the option no and it turned off the laptop.

If anyone could advise me what the next step would be to get this thing running again, I would be extremely grateful, because right now it seems I'm out of options short of buying a new hard drive and windows 8.
Thanks in advance, and also I'm sorry that I broke the golden rule of not searching and joining an existing discussion first. I'm literally pulling my hair out about this.

I recently purchased a new Toshiba Satellite Notebook model #A200-AH3 with 1GB RAM, 120GB hard drive and running pre-installed Vista Home Premium. Full specs can be viewed here:

Generally speaking, my understanding is that most default purchased computers have their hard drives formatted with two partitions: 1) one small hidden recovery partition with an image of your factory defaults and 2) your standard C: drive containing your operating system, programs and data files etc.

It seems my Toshiba has four partitions and I can't seem to figure out what the fourth partition is for. You can view an image of the way my hard drive is partitioned when using Disk Management here:

Disk 0:

Partition 1:
1.46 GB EISA Config (HIDDEN)
- this i believe to be the recovery partition

Partition 2:
- standard C: drive containing operating system program files and data

Partition 3:
- D: drive
- at first I could not understand why my notebook came with this partition. When I called Toshiba tech support, they told me it was the recovery partition and I shouldn't do anything with it. This didn't make any sense to me because this partition is visible when viewing through My Computer, is not a hidden partition and also because it seemed much too big to be a recovery partition. Hi all,

I'm trying to restore the laptop from my uncle. Reason for this was that he lost his cd-drive (In explorer, the cd-drive wasn't displayed anymore)

Instead of messing around with the drivers I suggested that recovering the pc would be a lot easier and better (clean install).

Only one problem: there seems to be a bios password when I restart the pc and press "Esc". This means I can't change the boot order and currently the laptop will only boot from disk and from its hard drive. Note: he told me he never setup a bios password and in such a case can't know it...
The trick with pressing 'C' when the bootable recovery cd is in it doesn't work neither.

Next thing I tried was setting up windows 98 using a windows 98 startup disk which resulted in the same problem as above: after the installation of windows 98 no cd-rom found was.

My last idea was to take a look on the "TOSHIBA Toole & utilities CD-ROM" where I found a folder (G:\COMMON\MANUAL\DUTCH\DISK1) which seems to be a bootable windows 98 floppy with some custom code. I tried this and bingo... I was booting it.

After booting it the screen "Toshiba Companion Diskette Utility" appeared where I had the option to Setup Your Computer.

Only problem: it says:
"TSETUP cannot be used when the security level is USER. only a SUPERVISOR can use this utility. Press any key to continue. . ."

You guys are my last resort and I hope you can help me out here....

Answer:Howto recover Toshiba Satellite 4070 CDS using TSetup...

As far as I know this utility (TSETUP) was placed on the Companion Disk.
This utility allows you to enter the BIOS menu.
To start this tool you should start the MS-DOS mode then ?TSETUP?.
But if the BIOS password is enabled I don?t think that it is possible to enter the BIOS.
Unfortunately, in this case the only way is to contact the ASP to remove/change the BIOS password.

Ok so I want to recover my C partition only, and "Repair My Computer" in the boot menu doesn't work for some reason, I get an error saying unable to load windows...

PS. I still have the factory Windows running.

Thank you for reading

Answer:Satellite U400-112 - Can I recover partition C only?

Using the Toshiba recovery disk it isn?t possible to restore only partition C.
This is only possible with HDD recovery option.

The recovery disk contains an image of factory settings and that means it wipes the whole HDD and all data will be erased.
The decided advantage is if you have a virus for example it can?t destroy new installation. The virus will be erased and so you have a really clean OS!

In your case I would backup all files on external storage and after this you can put back the files on second partition.

The most defitive minidump error is 0x000000D3: DRIVER_PORTION_MUST_BE_NONPAGED
Basically a driver is attempting to access a higher IRQ Level as paged when it actually should be non-paged. This results in system crashes.

The driver in question is kl1.sys which belongs to your Kaspersky antivirus. Try uninstalling it via Safe Mode and reboot. Then reinstall and see if that helps.

I have a TOSHIBA notebook Satellite P10, Windows XP.

It is a new computer, not second hand!
The problem is that it shuts down itself when I connect it to the AC adapter.

The only way I can work is charging it while it is off and then using it while on battery.

The problem appeared after 20 days I bought it.
I sent it to the TOSHIBA service, they updated the BIOS, it worked perfectly for 5 hours (connected to the AC adapter) and then the same problem appeared.

Do you have any suggestions?
I am looking forward to your replies!

Is it possible to recover to a single partition rather than Format every disk and then recover.
Or shall I just use Windows to do it since the image is made using ImageX

Answer:Satellite P200 - Is it possible to recover to a single partition

Hmm? there is a big difference between the Vista and XP recovery CD.
In my knowledge the Toshiba Vista recovery CD does not allow choosing any partition and it formats the whole HDD before OS recovering!
The Toshiba recovery CD with Win XP allows you to choose a partition on the HDD.

You have a P200 notebook and I assume it was delivered with Vista. Therefore I presume you will be not able to choose any partitions and it looks like the recovery CD will format the whole HDD!

The vista on my L300 will not start.

I try to use the modem for the first time but it couldn't contact the line. So I remove it in the "device manager".

After the restart the vista start screen appears only for 3 seconds then the notebook reboots. There is no way, no safe mode....

Contact the hd as an external drive XP say "unknown" 0 byte, with Linux its named correct as "vista" and I could open all folders.

I have no recovery. The DVD burning with the Toshiba recovery program failed tree times and so I give it up.

the hidden partition is ok. On my notebook from an other manufacture I can recover from this hidden partition. Is there any way to do this on my L300?

Thanks for information

I've had my Toshiba Sat 1900 laptop for about 1 ― years now and I'm starting to get a few problems with it. I find that the computer is running slow, the monitor is acting weird when I scroll up and down I'm getting a wigly/wavy look from the screen (pixel problem?) and it just doesn't work as good as it did.

I've been told laptops don't last as long as a desktop pc. Is this true?

What should I do about my laptop with these problems? thanks.

I have a Satellite Pro L300 running Vista that I am trying to recover using the official Toshiba Recovery Disk as the machine is unable to recover from the hard drive.

The process gets as far as starting the Recovery Utility and asking to select the language on the Recovery Utility to which I highlight English and then select Next; it moves onto the next screen which is blank and then just hangs.

Any suggestions?

I'm thinking of intstalling Linux to my toshiba notebook, but before I do that I have some questions.

I've noticed that I can do recovery with my recovery dvd, but I also have an hidden partition on HDD.
If I install linux (and change the original partitions) can I still do recovery from recovery DVD I got with my new laptop?
(If I can't what are my options to install linux and still do recovery to Vista later?)

Answer:Satellite A200-10W: Can I recover if I delete the hidden partition

Hi Luka

Yes, you will be able to recover the notebook back to the factory settings if you delete the hidden partition.
In such case you will have to use the Toshiba recovery CD to get the factory settings.
The hidden partition is used by Vista. Vista uses this partition for some backups and repair possibilities.
The usage of recovery CD will format the whole HDD and will also create the hidden partition too.

When I have the touchpad enabled the cursor jumps around the screen when I'm typing somthing causing me grief. It also has minimized the current browser I'm in, not always but has happened.

When I disable it and connect my Logitech wheel mouse (which I'v used for 2+ years) the problem disappears but I can't highlight/select things properly. For example, normally when I double click on a word it highlights but it doesn't do that anymore. Or when I try to select a a few words it selects the entire sentence or parts of it. I have to use the shift and arrow key. Also using the vertical scroll gives me a problem as well.

I downloaded and installed the current mouse drivers, changed the USB the mouse connects to...nothing. I'm using XP Home version (i've only used the pro version before).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Answer:Cannot install Toshiba Recovery image on my Satellite notebook

You can install original recovery image and set notebook to ?factory settings? using two possible options:
-to use HDD recovery installation (F8 at start-up and ?repair my computer? option)
-to use recovery DVD

If I understand you right you have installed own OS in hope to use your notebook but on this way you have ?deleted? this repair my computer option so you will not be able to start installation from HDD. Your only option is usage of recovery DVD.

Now the million dollar question: have you created recovery DVD following Toshiba advice to do this?

Hi, I would like to install XP on a new 7 computer on a partition. I've created a partition, labeled it F: (F Disk), and tried to boot from my XP installation CD. After a few minutes of configuring, it says there was an error, etc. Run chkdsk /F and a bit more, but it looks like unimportant information.

It's a new computer, so I don't think there's a problem with the disk, but what else could be doing this?

Or is there something physically different in a hard disk that runs 7 versus one that runs XP and XP can't install on it?

Answer:XP on Partition: Toshiba Satellite

Hello Dabrowski, welcome to Seven Forums!

Just so you'll know you'll have to have either a Windows 7 install disk or a repair disk to get Windows 7 booting again if you install XP second after W 7 is installed.

I just purchased a brand new laptop and have realised that it didn't come with a recovery disc or a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Just wondering if my hard disc crashes how am i supposed to reinstall windows?
The laptop i bought is a Toshiba satellite L500 and is only a few weeks old.

If anyone could help on the subject would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+
+and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+

+Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure+

Satellite L300D-22K

windows vista (home premium)

HDD has two (visible) partitions :
- C:(Vista)
- D: (Datos)

after installing avast antivirus boot takes 20 minutes (corrupt File?, defective HDD?)
Moved all my personal archives to partition D:
Not sure if I can create bootable recovery dvd?s (system is unstable)

1 *I?d like to reinstall vista without formatting D partition* (where my data is)
Find this guide for HDD recovery procedure
What steps should I follow?

2 If HDD is defective, how can I re-install supplied OS (vista) to a new HDD ?

3 Unrelated to the above, can I update to Windows 7 (clean install)
32 or 64bit version?

Answer:Satellite L300D - how to recover Vista without loosing data partition?

I will try to help you.
> 1 I?d like to reinstall vista without formatting D partition (where my data is)
>Find this guide for HDD recovery procedure
>What steps should I follow?
As far as I know on second HDD partition in folder HDDRecovery is saved recovery image. When you start HDD recovery installation (F8 at start-up) recovery image from partition D will be installed on partition C. In this case partition D will not be deleted. Just partition C will be formatted before recovery image installation starts.
Just use F8 option and go to ?repair my computer?. Just follow menu on the screen and choose option ?Recovery of factory default software?.
> 2 If HDD is defective, how can I re-install supplied OS (vista) to a new HDD ?
After reading this question I see you didn?t read user?s manuals document. You should create recovery media (recovery DVD) and this recovery DVD you can use for recovery image installation if there is some problem with HDD or you want to install original recovery image on new HDD.
> 3 Unrelated to the above, can I update to Windows 7 (clean install) 32 or 64bit version?
Of course you can do this. Visit please Toshiba download page on and check if all drivers, tools and utilities are available there. Of course before you do this, create recovery DVD.

If you have more questions you are welcome.
