Script error causing PC to lock up all the time

Question: Script error causing PC to lock up all the time

Please help me. I am running the latest Internet Download Manager and have scanned my PC for rootkits, malware and viruses with many different sources and found 0 infections.

I am getting this exact error.........

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: file:///C:/Users/A6/AppData/Roaming/IDM/idmmzcc5/components/idmhelper5.js:91"

this locks up my PC for several minutes and eventually lets me click stop script, but it returns again over and over.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled IDM twice but no cure.

Preferred Solution: Script error causing PC to lock up all the time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Script error causing PC to lock up all the time

The script seems to be related to your download manager either uninstall it and just use windows or try reinstalling it

Don't the programmers at Microsoft, Google, Adobe, Firefox, Java etc. KNOW that this problem exists? And is causing a lot of downtime for a lot of people waiting for the darned script to offer a pop-up that allows "stop script"?It's an enormous waste of time and a huge irritant - these scripts intruding into the computer's functioning. Imagine you're in an important Board meeting, and all of a sudden the maid comes in demanding to vacuum and shampoo the carpet, leaving you no choice but to wait for her to finish. These unwanted scripts are really a terrible, frustratingly annoying problem!Hope someone can give clear instructions, step 1, step 2 etc. on how to permanently and effectively resolve this problem.

Answer:unresponsive script message causing a HUGE waste of time !!

Can't say that I get these. If you are using IE then go to "Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing section" and see if you have got all "disable script debugging entries checked.Do you get it when using alternative browsers such as Firefox? It would be worth running MalwareBytes freebie just to see if it picks anything up: can often find what your AV will miss. Also try ATW Cleaner to see if you have any unwanted toolbars that you might not know about: I doubt anyone here can tell you whether the programmers know about this - try asking them instead.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Does anyone know if endless Script Error messages are caused by malware? I have run a few different virus scans and CCleaner. None of them found anything. On this site, the Script Error says "addthis is undefined."

Background: Upgraded to Win 10 last week. Tried Edge but didn't like it so switched back to Internet Explorer. When I go online, I get a Script Error message for most sites, and have to click either Yes/No or X several times to get rid of it. Often that doesn't help and I usually end up having to use End Task to close down the browser.

The links that appear often lead to ads. The most common is adadvisor, but once I click it away, other ad links appear such as adlegend.

Has anyone used freefixer to get rid of adadvisor and if so, does it also get rid of other ad links that result in a Script Error message?

I have IE (in ?Advanced?) set to disable scripts on IE and everywhere else and to not repeat the Script Error message (sample pic attached; the links change each time and are always related to ad sites), but it still happens.

Answer:Is Malware Causing Endless Script Error Messages?

Hello, Laurie

The Script Error messages as you describe suggest malware infection. FreeFixer isn't one of the tools we use and we also often find that a cleaning procedure is needed to remove all of the malware.

Please perform the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide if you wish help.

Hello guys,

I currently play a online game called Ragnarok Online, basically what it is, is a MMORPG-type game where players can choose a job such as a swordsman, and take on monsters, bosses w/ friends and such, it's a pretty fun classic game that was popular in the mid 2000's. Still awesome to this day, in my opinion.

So yeah, every time I launch this game on my desktop, called TalonRO, I get a script error now! It's a really annoying problem, and troublesome to see it all the time. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?? I mean, I can still log in and play, but it's very irritating to see it pop up every time I open TalonPatch so that I can play (which is what it is called) to click "Yes" or "No" just to get pass it and start game.. This is what the game menu looks like on my laptop (look at picture). I attempted to uninstall and then reinstall game files to no avail.. I also put allow traffic all the way for anything related to TalonRO (I use Privatefirewall 7.0). Online game server has been around for a decade now and has it's own forum for registration and everything. Been on for years with no problems. I trust them quite a bit for security. Anyhow they just had this new menu up as you can see on the picture, before they didn't and when you launch game, you just had to login, no menu. Looks awesome now.. except for the script error I get all the time now..

If anyone wants to know how this even happened, here's... Read more

Hi Hussey.

Easiest way for you would be to install CCleaner, and run. Once in there, go to Tools, and then Startup *See Screenshot*.

I had to do a system recovery, and now, anytime I use a pop-up stopper w/IE6, I get an error message stating: "Internet Explorer Script Error" and it goes on about the error. Either it's an object was expected, or a null object, or the callee is not available or disappeared. I *know* it has to do with the pop-up stoppers, because if I disable them, I do not get the error (but I get the pop-up ad). I've tried numerous stoppers (StopZilla, Pop-up Stopper (basic, companion & pro), Stop-the-pop, ect.) and they all cause the same problems. I should say IE6 causes them to have a problem.

In my advanced settings under tools, DISABLE SCRIPT DEBUGGING is checked, and DISABLE A NOTIFICATION ABOUT EVERY SCRIPT ERROR is not. I don't understand what is going on. ??? I have all the updates for IE6.

You may want to reinstall Internet Explorer or install the latest version of Windows Script.

And please do this:

Go to , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.

Windows Internet Explorer
*Stop running this script?
A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly.
If it continues to run your computer might become unresponsive.
Stop running this page Yes - No*

If I click on Yes, the box disappears and I can do what I want, until next time I go to email.
Have closed and reloaded email, rebooted from cold, and run Supermalwarebytes without making any difference. The box pops up, I click 'Yes' The box disappears and all seems normal until next time.
Can anyone offer a reason/solution for this happening which seems more nuisance than threat?

Okay, I am new to this forum, so forgive me if I am not posting this in the right place, or if this is actually an easy fix.I use Mozilla Firefox, and this problem occurs frequently. I also tried Internet Explorer, and it also happened too.The problem is, my Firefox browser seems to be running slow, and sometimes when I would open a new page, or tab, etc, a pop up from my Avast professional edition would come up, that just says Script Blocker on it. Then, about 5 seconds later, some random pop-up would come up, sometimes it would be something about Google and jobs, or an ad for Full Sail University. I tried using the Avast boot time scan to see if it was a virus, and I told avast to just delete the infected file automatically. and I did the boot time scan twice already. Still having this problem. Then I tried Ad-Aware, updated it, and did a Smart scan, as well as a full system scan, both to no avail... I am still having this popup problem. It started happening two days ago. I have a client with Windows 10 Enterprise who would like to ?lock down? their Windows 10 devices to only use an IPTV Streaming program called InStream Mobile.
I have looked into Kiosk Mode, but you can only configure it to use a Windows Store App (what a shame). There is no Windows Store App for InStream Mobile or another compatible third party IPTV Streaming app. So, I have done some research to find a successful way to have a user log on and only be able to use this InStream Mobile program. I have not had much luck.
Just to be clear, the client doesn?t want the user to be able to browse the internet, browse the computer?s C: Drive or files or any other programs.
I think it?s a little too ?picky? of a request, but what do I know? Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated! And yes, I?ve tried some of the powershell commands but they have been unsuccessful as well.

need script to set screensaver / lock out to 10 minutes . Is such a think possible ? thanks

Answer:need script to set screensaver / lock out to 10 minutes

Funny, I am using an app that prevents the screen saver/sleep to start on my work PC.
What you propose to do is possible but not easy.
You could have a script that would create a scheduled task to run
Run "%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

Scripts to create scheduled tasks should be floating around the web. But then where do you want the script to run? If you want it to run in the context of another user you might need to have this run as part of a logon script.
Could you provide more details of what exactly you are trying to do?

A script on this page is causing mozilla to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive.
Do you want to abort the script?
So i click "no" and i get through just fine but it makes my computer become unresponsive for about 10-15 secs which is quite aggrivating. I have searched all over the net, many many ppl have same problem but no one has come up with a solution...

Answer:script on this page is causing mozilla to run slowly

That's a problem with one of your extensions, not the site. When your extension doesn't execute properly, then it shows you that error. The obvious solution is to remove the offending extension.

I am working on a computer for a lady at my work and was wondering if someone could offer some suggestions. The problem as she states is that the computer locks up after being online for 5 minutes, running MS word and IE together, or leaving the comptuer and coming back in a few minutes.

I have formatted the drive, reloaded Win98 and installed a new modem (old one was giving conflicts). I verified that all fans are running and the memory seems to be ok. It's only got 32mb RAM but the system seems to be running great.

Of course I can't get anything to lock up! I am currently running 5 MS Word windows and 7 IE windows. The comptuer has been typing now for 2 hours.

Is there anyway that a mouse, keyboard, or printer could cause the computer to lock up? That's the only thing left that I can think of since I am not using those parts of hers. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Hardware causing computer to lock?

Watch her once and see exactly what she is doing or what kinds of applications are running when she has a problem. Try and take the internet connection out of the equation and see if it will lock when only running apps. If it passes that test connect to the internet and watch your system resources every time you open a new app. What version of Windoze are you running? 32MB of memory is probably part of your problem.

My friend just purchased an M-Audio Delta 44 sound card and he's been experiencing problems with it. He doesn't have net access so he can't ask this question himself.

First he installed the card into an available PCI slot as the instructions said to do. He turned on his machine and everything was going fine, he installed the drivers from the included CD-ROM and all seemed to go well. The audio card was working perfectly. He tested out playback and recording function and everything was fine. He restarted his computer and when it came to boot back up, it would immediately lock up. He restarted again and the same problem persisted. He decided to take his card out and try booting up again but this time it didn't lock up and he was able to get into Windows. He reinstalled the card again and used the same drivers from the disc. The card worked fine again after he installed it but again, after a restart, the machine would lock up.

I went to the manufacturers website and downloaded an updated driver and burned it to a CDR and dropped it at his house. He tried installing the card with the new drivers but still, this problem wouldn't end. He's tried installing the card into each of his PCI slots and nothing helped.

He's pretty lost right now about what could be the problem and so am I. I'm hoping that someone here can help us out.

Hi all, I installed a video player by online download "Divx" that was required to watch an on line movie site. It started locking my screen when it attempted to "update" so I deleted the files. It still locks about once a week and when I re start I have a notice that a Divx update is available. Whether I postpone or close I get no option to stop the updates. Thanks

Answer:internet update causing lock up?

I would try using Revo Uninstaller to remove all DivX files from the system. Here is how to use Revo Uninstaller: 1) First we download it from here: Revo Uninstaller Free Version. You can skip this Step if you already have it installed. However, you may need to update it. If you have it installed already, and you need to update it, go ahead and open it up and click the AutoUpdate Icon next to Help. The use of this program makes registry changes based upon what you select for removal from the Registry. Before running Revo Uninstaller please run ERUNT before proceeding to back up your registry in case you make a mistake. 2) Select the Program to remove from the list of programs and click the Uninstall button: 3) After selecting the program you want to remove, and confirming you want to uninstall the program, then you will want to select the Advanced Option: 4) Click Next. This will start the uninstaller for the application you picked. When the uninstaller is done, and it proves to be successful, and a reboot is required, then select NO and continue the below steps. 5) Follow the prompts during the uninstallation of the application. Once it closes you will be at this window: 6) Click Next again. Once the window is done scanning for files and other things that did not get removed, you will be presented with this window: . You will want to select only the bolded items, then click on Delete. If any entries-usually the last thing listed and not in bold-have a ... Read more

I have for computers, 2 desktops, 2 notebooks. The desktops are using dlink pci cards and a dlink ethernet switch. The laptops are using linksys wireless pc cards. All four computersare connected. The network seems to be fine (I can view all computers, can access my printer, share the internet) except that the laptops will lock-up when the network cards are installed.
This happens very frequently, and has basically rendered the network useless. Sometimes when the computers lock up if you remove the card then the computers will unfreeze, other times removing the card will not help and the comp has to be rebooted.
Neither computer freezes when the pc card is not connected.
Both laptops are running Win Xp. I have disabled Xp's firewall.
I am at a lose. If anyone has any suggestions I would be so appreciative to hear about it.
Thank You

Answer:Network is causing computers to lock-up

I had a similar problem when using an Orinoco wireless card. When the card is searching for the network...or trying to connect the whole laptop would hang. I eventually got newer drivers that made it much less frequent.

I now have a cisco 350 card and I have never had a problem with it.

It was bad because the cards would hand the machines even when they were withing 10ft of the AP.

My suggestion is to look for driver and firmware updates on the AP and the cards.

I've had Windows 10 running on my Optiplex 3020 for a while now with no real problems. Recently an automated update is causing the pc to lock during the reboot. I get a black screen with circling dots which stays for hours without changing. I have to turn the pc on and off a few times to get it to recover to the previous version which works fine. I have run the Dell dignostics which updated a few drivers but the problem still occurs. Windows is trying to install the update every few days. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Answer:Windows 10 update causing pc to lock

dfmarshall,It is hard to say what is causing the problem. If all your drivers are updated and the computer was running fine prior to the update then, there is something in the Microsoft Update causing problems. Unplug any devices connected to the computer and disable any anti-virus or utility programs. Once you have done that try the update. If that does not resolve the issue. Contact Microsoft about the update.

I had Just recently had my PC lock up with no sign of life, i immediately thought the power supply went, but saw the green light still on so then thought the motherboard and went and bought a new one and put everything back together and still no response.. no fans no post. So my friend said must be a vid card and I never heard of that having fried many of cards in the past but after pulling everything out as for expansions and memory and then had fans and post. so put them back in one by one until I didn't get a response again and then found the culprit.. one of my 8500 GT's was dead.

I've never heard of that, anyone else ever have this or is it a freak thing?

I have searched some re. AVG but am not security savvy, so any help appreciated!
Purchased AVG 9.0 and I think it's giving all sorts of lockup and hanggggiiing problems (email, internet, everything!). And it seems to take forever to 'resolve' directs me when 'threat' appears to 'look at file' but takes me instead to a knowledge base screen not to actual file...and there's never a way to know if it's really resolved, since there's no "done" or " removed" box - I find it very time-consuming and the navigation very cumbersome...I don't want to spend 20 min. every time I turn on computer!

Any alternatives! I spent $40 or so on this, but I can't take much more!

Hello anyone and help.
I don't understand the error message I'm getting which appears as follows.
btw .. Please Note ... I wasn't watching any movie or video.
" A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 10 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?
YES ---- NO "

It doesn't matter which button I click. Yes or No bring the same result. The error pops up again and asks the same question.

Finally .... I thought I could do a System Restore. NO LUCK. It would not restore.

What's goin' on here?

Thank You

I am using a relatively new Dell Inspiron 1525 w/ Vista. Lately it has been freezing with increased frequency, typically while on the internet. I'm using Firefox but there doesn't seem to be any problems.
At every startup, however, I get a message that says the there is a script error on the following page:

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

It seems to be a dell program, but I have had a hard time finding any information on this error. Could this be the reason for the frequent crashes?
I am currently using Trend Micro PC-Cillin and Malwarebytes AntiMalware and they haven't turned up anything out of the ordinary. I consulted with a person at Dell support and they said it might be a problem with the built in webcam driver. Really?
Anyone heard of this problem? What can I do?

ANY help is appreciated!

thanks ahead of time,

I just started receiving this error when I access Facebook. I do not get this error on any other website, except for Facebook. I do use the secure facebook option, which means my URL starts with https. I do not receive this error in FireFox or Chrome, only in IE8 and only on Facebook.

This just started one (1) day ago and prior to that, no problems. I would receive that every so often, but it was rare.

I have cleared cache and cookies but that did not resolve the problem.

I did some research and from what I have been able to determine, it may have to do with Java Plug-In 2 SSV Helper. However, I went to Java website and ran the tester and it could not detect any problems. In addition, I ran CCCleaner and while it detected some registry problems, it did not detect anything with Java.

I receive this error from simply accessing my page in Facebook. I did start receiving this error when playing Farm Town, which is an Adobe Flash game but now, everytime I access Facebook, I get this error.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello All,
Not sure if this should be in the Security or a different area.
I have a user where when ever he shuts his laptop lid for a couple minutes and opens it back up he gets locked out from the Company Wireless connection.
He is the only one who has this issue so I am unsure why this happens. The Wireless uses AD Authentication.
I even made it to prompt him for the password and everything when reconnecting.
This has not resolved the issue. I am about to the point to make the computer do nothing when he shuts the lid.

Does anyone have any clue why this would happen to one user? I currently have him set up on the Guest Network and using the VPN. Then when he uses a Ethernet cable he has no issues either. Everything points toward the one Wireless connection.

Any Ideas or thoughts?

I dl CPUID to check my temps to see if it was maybe o'heating while i watched other videos on hulu but nothing, it worked like a champ & temps were around 35c I think. Need help. I've got xp without sp's. Went to run windows update. It started it's download, I believe installing sp2. About 3/4's of the way through it locked up. The computer was froze. I ctr-alt-del to get task manager but nothing happened. So I waited awhile longer and still nothing. So I rebooted the comp. Now everytime I go to windows update through help & support or through mc's site, even just clicking on the link windows update help at mc's site locks up the computer. I have to end task to get the comp running again. I've searched high and low over the internet for the answer, ran spybot, virus scan, and even reloaded xp. Which when i did that and it asked for registration info i filled it out and sent it and it too locked up the comp. Again please help. THanks.

XP Pro SP2

This is sorta related to a previous thread of mine..but sorta seperate.

Anyone know of a windows update that causes user accounts to lock up / not allow a password to be entered even though its the right password?

It keeps happening to me, and i know its not software b/c this is the third clean install in 2 weeks with still the same issue...even without installing software other than office 2003 it happens.

Short and sweet... three user accounts (one admin, two poweruser) I log on as admin, lock the desktop (WIN+L), come back a few min later, log on to a poweruser acct., log off the power user acct, try to log on my admin user acct and it wont accept my password even though i was just on it and its is still open and shows me as logged on. It also locks out the poweruser accts.!!

The only thing i can do hard boot it....and this only happens once and a while...very intermitent. im gonna really hurt someone or myself soon....

ERRRRRRRRRR!!!!! All "critcal" windows updates installed, and net framework and WMP10 installed. and updated....and no i have not see a pinpoint pattern of any of the updates that can cause this. I have also used the drivers that worked fine on my previous install..and also the must be M$ updates

We have two laptops that are exactly the same at my house, we are using a 108Mb/s wireless netgear router along with 108Mb/s wireless netgear PC cards for the laptops. About a month ago I updated the wireless PC card driver software to the latest version from netgear's site on one of the laptops. I noticed a while after that the card would lock up occasionally but it could be removed and reinserted to get it working again. I installed the same software on the second laptop. After more time passed the laptops started freezing up requiring a hard reboot. I decided to go back to the older version of the driver software but the problem still exists. Is anyone else having this problem with netgear's PC cards? Crappy drivers? Any recomendations on how to remedy this problem?

I have just returned from a client who's Windows XP SP2 station is using IE6.0. When they tried to to use the CTRL+O option to type in a website (any site) when they hit enter the browser would be non responsive for 1 minute or more then finally go to the site. After disabling services in msconfig and reenabling 1 at a time I have determined that the Windows Acquisition Interface was causing IE to lock up. I research and found this service is for digital image acquisition I left it off and all is well - should I be concerned about other items being effected - he has no camera or scanner just uses Internet, Email and printing.

Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on what is going on with my work computer. Every time I reset my computer (from the start menu) my account is locked out from the server at my work. If I simply log off, or do a complete shut down it doesn't happen. Only when I reset.

Does anyone have an idea of why this might happen?

My scroll lock key will randomly blink periodically, but not always.  I generally have the same programs open -- Word, Excel, Firefox, Thunderbird, a .wav player program, a text expander, etc. -- and I have not been able to narrow it down to coming from any particular program.  When the scroll lock light is randomly blinking, though, it affects my text expander *and* it affects the spell check in MS Word (at the flash, it looks like it is making an edit to the spell check).  Does anybody have any ideas of where I could track down why this light is blinking and how to get it to stop?

Hey guys,

I've been here on Tech Support Guy before and everyone's been extremely helpful so before i start wanted to thank everyone again.

Was wondering if anyone could help me:

Purchased a new laptop - ASUS G51JX-X5 Gaming Laptop. My computer freezes sometimes and it's caused by the disc drive. I first noticed it when i was burning dvds. After burning a DVD, the software pops up notifying me the writing was successful and immediately the laptop freezes. This also applies to DVD-DL's but strangely enough it didn't happen when i burned a CD (only did it once).
After noticing it happening after burning DVD-R/DVD-DL's it happened again after trying to install a game via a DVD disc. The installation screen would load, then the entire computer would freeze.

I went to my event viewer and found this under application logs around the time of most recent freeze/lockup:
WARNING - LMS Service cannot connect to Intel(R) MEI driver

As well as this in system event logs:
WARNING - A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Busevice:Function: 0x0:0x3:0x0
Vendor IDevice ID: 0x8086:0xd138

Now i'd like to make note that i THINK my disc drive is PCI-E so i beleive this correlates.

I am running Adobe Flash Professional CC on a Toshiba AMD laptop running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

None of the dialog windows in Flash CC function properly; the window opens but the buttons don't work. Some dialog windows cause the application to lock and I have to close it via Task Manager.
I wonder if another process is conflicting with Flash Pro CC.

I've attached a screenshot of all the processes that are running. I've checked each process on the excellent site:
Windows startup programs - Database search and I don't see an obvious culprit.

Does anyone see a process that I should get rid of? Or do you have any other suggestions?
The computer has recently been scanned by CC Cleaner, MalwareBytes, Avast Free Anti-virus and SpyBot.

Answer:Are background processes causing my application to lock?

Your screen print shows you have 62 processes running but there are not 62 processes in the list.

I was wondering if there is software that can show me what process(s) might be running or causing a program to stop functioning.I am using Cakewalk Sonar 8.3 (audio/midi recording & playback software) on my Dell Inspiron M6400 laptop.  During playback of midi files using VST and DXI synths, playback may stop at any given moment.  It doesn't happen to often.  Maybe once every few hours.  We use this during performances so if this happens during a performance, I must restart sonar.  Fortuneately I do not need to reboot the computer but it still is a problem.  This laptop is used only for my music and is not connected to the internet.  WIFI is disabled and all unnecessary functions have been disabled.  I would like to find a way to see what processes or services are running when Sonar locks up.  It would be very helpful is there is some software that could be running in the background that would identify running processes or services.  In this way, I may be able to isolate what may be interfering with Sonar.Any help would be greatly appreciated.ThanksJan Dell Inspiron M6400 3.06 mhz   1gb  1067mhz ram   Roland UA101 usb external DAW.

Hi there,

You guys have been so helpful in the past I am hoping you can help with a problem I am experiencing. My computer is older so I expect it to be slow but it has just been unbelievably laggy lately. The main thing that makes me thing I have some issue is when I try to shut down it takes awhile then I get a window that pops up and asks if I want to End Program for Autocomplete. When I hit OK it just repeats this process - up to 10 times. Sometimes I have to reset it just to reboot. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!

ETA: I am running Windows XP

Hi, Have any of you experienced something similar to what I am seeing today? After editing an word document in office 2007 for not more than 30 minutes, after a keypress, word locks up and only recovery that works is to kill the process. I updated all drivers from lenovo's update site, and I checked that microsoft office 2007 is completely up-to-date. It has happened 4 times for me today, and is really tiresome  Thanks,Spip

RE: BOINC 7.6.22, with or without VirtualBox 5.0.10

I case you are running distributing computing jobs on you computer such as [email protected] and are experiencing curser/screen freezing with Windows 10 I have found that BOINIC as listed above is the cause. This is upsetting to me as I have done distributed computing since 2007 and I would like to continue to do so but I have loaded and operated BOINIC numerous time to test it and have positively ID's is as the cause of my PC lockups. I have dropped a note to the managers of BIONIC's spelling out the problem with dump files and have not had a reply. I hope for the best.

Hi, when ever i use Utorrent to download something, my computer crashes, so i tried swapping Ram ( i have 2Gb x 2 ) and if i run only 1 stick and take the other out, strangley enough it runs fine! But for obvious reasons this is a hassle and would very much want to run it with both sticks in and figure out the problem here.

much appreciated.

i have Windows 7 64bit BTW.

Answer:uTorrent causing computer to lock up. Had this problem for over a year.

You have answered your own question, probability is that RAM module may be defective. You can verify that by running memtest, for minimum of 8 passes (first with both modules installed, then with one module at a time), however, it would be more appropriate to let it run through the night and see whether it reports any errors. Hello All,

I have a challange for all you out there. I have attached a blown up screenshot of two MS Word .doc files that have this weird black & white clock icon on lower left hand side it looks like a octogon clock icon, but I have never seen it before. That small black & white icon is on all documents with the following extentions (.xls, .doc, .txt, .rtf) there could be more, but I haven't found it.

Now here is the problem....all of the files with that little icon do not open. it locks up and I have to close the file....sometimes forcing windows to do it form since it isn't closing on it's own.

Anyone seen this?

So I guess by the lack of responses, people are as stumped about this as me?

Hi guys,

A couple of months ago I built a new system and made the jump to Windows 8.

Everything runs great apart from one thing - my secondary hard drive (which is the old one from my old rig) is having issues, which I am now only using for all my less-important programs, and movies, games and general files.

Whenever I open up the drive in Computer or Explorer, it will lock up the window/freeze for 10-20 seconds before returning to normal, in which I can then use it again. It will work for normally for around 5-10 minutes before the lockup returns.

* I have the hard drive split into two partitions. Both do the same thing.

Thanks in advance,

Hello Josh, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It sounds like you have your power plan settings set to turn off your hard disks after being idle for the 5-10 minutes. The tutorial below can help show you how to turn off and stop this.

Hi everyone, We supplied 4 x Lenovo ThinkCentre M93P Tiny Desktops (Model: 10AB003SAU) to a business customer earlier in the year. They are all running Windows 7 64-bit with 500GB 7000RPM SATA drives. Late last week to early this week (approx 17 April 2015 to 20 April 2015) an update came through Lenovo System Update for Lenovo Active System Protection V1.0.0.21 which the customer installed on all four of their systems. Since then, all four systems have been hanging & locking up during use & then require a hard reset for the systems to be usable again until the problem reoccurs next time then the same thing over & over. I spent a heap of time going over the systems trying to work out the cause of this issue which has cost me an absolute fortune in lost productivity & lost revenue. It also lost the customer a lot of time & renenue due to the systems being problematic over a number of days. Thanks very much Lenovo! Won't get any of that time or lost labour back! Customer is furious with both us & Lenovo over this matter, we will likely lose future business due to this. Hoping this may save someone else a major headache if they see this post early enough as I assume problem would be relatively widespread if people are using Lenovo Update. If anyone else has or had this issue recently then please comment. Very disappointed with this probl... Answer:** Lenovo Active Protection System V1.0.0.21 Causing Windows 7 64-bit to randomly lock up **

I just had the very same problem with a 10A5 0006 (M93 without "p"). Customer reported the issue on Friday, 8th of May after apparently suffering silently through the issue for a few days already, saying that it becomes worse, and that he has to restart the machine sometimes every quarter of an hour. Thankfully customer was able to say that the problems started in the last week of April already, and indeed, on the 16th the machine last installed Windows Updates, and on the 19th the aforementioned Active Protection Of Doom I already began back tracing (read: uninstalling one by one) the updates from that day when I stumbled over your post. In all fairness, I would probably not have even touched the Lenovo update, thinking first of a MS foobar. This post saved me from having to invest several hours of time, not to mention that I will be now prepared if the next machine with the similar issue comes around the corner (I need to service roundabout 50 M93p's from the last half year, I betcha there will be more) Thanks

Browser: Opera 9

VirusScanner McAffee Virus Sheild Corporate

Whenever I visit a site that has a flash player component such as a banner or an add, the whole workstation locks up for 30 to 40 seconds and the virus scanner is pegged out at 99 CPU. Once a site, any site is loaded that has a flash component, opening additional ones does not cause this to happen again, it only happens on the initial loading of Flash, but is repeatable if the browser is closed. Changing the virus scanner is not an option, it is part of the group policy and I would rather not change my browser, since my other alternative is IE6.

Another way to put it: No graphics driver for Windows 10 64-bit is working! I noticed the laptop one day started to freeze when clicking on things in the task bar, or system tray, and boots very slowly.  It freezes for about 10 to 30 seconds before becoming available again.  Through a LOT of troubleshooting I was able to determine it was being caused by the graphics driver.  Windows 10 has a "helpful" feature of upgrading your drivers (even if you turn it off) and this laptop obviously doesn't like the one that was chosen for it. The graphics driver package (sp71870) for this model does NOT contain a valid graphics driver (at least it doesn't detect the adapter during install).  I tried to download the latest driver directly from AMD and it's the one causing the problem!I opened a ticket with AMD and they were unable to assist and asked that I contact HP instead.  Can't open a ticket as this thing is now out of warranty (of course). If I attempt to remove/roll back the driver it causes problems with Windows where explorer.exe crashes over and over again. Please help! Question: Script Time Out

Sometimes, when I go onto websites, the message "error script timed out" and the rest of the page is blank, comes up, (happens a lot on auction sites). How do I go about fixing this?

Answer:Script Time Out

The reason for "Scripte Timed Out" error message is because on loading web pages, the web server will wait for the responses (like database operation) only for a particular span of time. If it exceeds the time, it pops up this message.
I don't know if there is anything you can do about it.

Hi - I apologize if I have done this wrongly, but I have posted my details here:
following one set of instructions I saw on the forum, but having read some other instructions, perhaps I should have posted here first?

Please be gentle as I thought I was doing the right thing when I posted this three days ago.

My Windows XP system has hit problems with google links redirecting, random music playing, script errors for unfamiliar websites appearing when no browser window is open.

I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware from safe mode which has got rid of the fake spyware ads appearing, but the above symptoms are left in place.

The other problem is that my desktop is completely blank - and mouse right-clicks have no effect there. The usual files and shortcuts are there in Windows Explorer but do not appear on the desktop.

My log details from following the log advice on the forum is in the link above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

Hi,I've got a question here. I have a visual basic script that does a thing i want it to on my XP Pro machine. Is there a way of controlling the execution of the script like 2 minutes after a user is logged onto the computer.Thank you in advance and look forward to hearing from you

Answer:how to trigger a script to run at a certain time

You might try putting a shortcut to your script in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder. That should kick off your script at startup no matter who logs on.For the two minute warning, try using a WScript.Sleep 120000 statement at the beginning of your script. You may have to adjust the time parameter (milliseconds). Many factors affect the Windows startup.Hope this is helpful. 8-)

Hi folks,

Short details:
We run server 2008r2 and windows 7 clients.
Folder redirection (policies) fail after a recent windows update.
after searching i found a solution to add some register keys.

So the remaining problem persists,
I don't want to go a run the .reg file manually on 100+ computers...

Does someone know a faster solution to run the .reg file with maybe a 1 time startup script when a pc boots?? (applies to making use of the server, so the .reg can be applied to all computers in the same domain if possible)

Answer:1 time startup script????

Does someone know a faster solution to run the .reg file with mayby a 1 time startup script when a pc boots??

Maybe using taskscaduler:
just chek "Expire" and "One time" and set date and time so that script expires as soon as it run (few seconds difference for example).

under "Action" tab set parameters for reg file.
to se what available command line options you have to fill in "Action" tab run cmd as admin and type reg add /?
Here is how to select multiple computers on the network:

I am having major problems with something that seems to have messed up my Windosx XP setup. I cannot access the help/support centre, or look at services or user accounts. When ever I try running these I get a window that says there is a an Internet explorer Script error on this page, do I want o continue to run scripts yes or no. It is impossible to get rid of this and only by stopping the process in task manager can I go any further. I even get the same when I try to look at the version of IE.

Can anybody please help??
